Sales & Marketing Alignment: How to Synergize for Success
Q6
1. Question 6: What have you learned about
technologies from the process of constructing this
product?
2. Research and Pre-Production of the Film
We used several different services and technologies during the
research and pre-production of our film. We used search engines such
as Google and Bing to search the Internet for research purposes. These
technologies were used for the research of similar films of ours and the
analysis of title sequences. This was beneficial to us in ensuring our
final product follows the conventions of a successful crime film. It also
provided us information on certificates and distributors for our film,
and with information on 180-degree-rule and continuity in film.
3. Blogger and the aspects of the product
Having some previous experience in using blogging software like
Wordpress, I quickly caught on to the easy to use interface of Blogger.
This would be the medium in which I showed my final work and the
product to determine marks in the unit. Different issues faced us,
however, because of formatting of several documents and the layout of
them being tricky to sort. The embedding of videos and photos,
however, was a big disadvantage of Blogger. It was extremely hard to
embed the different videos and pictures for the storyboard phases and
for the final product. Overall I would recommend Blogger, however it
does have its small downsides.
4. Questionnaires
During the pre-production processes of the film, we decided that the
input of our audience is key to the good production of our film, and it
would be extremely useful to find out the input from our audience
before the film is produced, to ‘iron out’ any issues before it is finalised.
We used a website called SurveyMonkey to produce an effective
questionnaire as it uses different methods of data capture, like social
media and email. This would assist in addressing the opinions of our
audience as the majority/all of our audience use social media, so this
was the ultimate tool in research for our film.
5. Adobe Premiere Pro
We used Premiere Pro to edit the final product together. None of us had ever
used the program before, despite me having some previous knowledge of
Adobe products. As we learned, Premiere Pro has an extremely steep
learning curve and the complexity of the program compared to different
programs like Sony Vegas and Windows Movie Maker was much higher. A lot
of research was needed into different functions of the program. Once this
research had been completed and we had ’semi-learnt’ the program’s
features we found it easy to compile the clips and edit them into our final
feature film/product. We used different features such as the fading of audio,
transitions between clips, and editing of filters and colors to create a
professional looking product. Without the research we conducted, our film
would not be up to the standard that it should have been.
6. Adobe After Effects
We briefly used Adobe After Effects for the title sequence of our film. I
have had significant experience with the use of the program, and
because this is part of the Adobe family of programs, I also had some
experience in the user interface. We used this program to create the
effect of the film title on the wall. This was easier to produce than the
film itself, simply as it was a smaller task. Because of my previous
knowledge of the UI, it made the program a lot more easier to use than
when I first used Premiere Pro.
7. Overall, I believe that technologies contributed heavily towards our
film, and without the group and me learning different technologies, our
film would not be up to the standard that it is now. Without the
research that we conducted using SurveyMonkey, we achieved much
more than if we used regular research using search engines.
