Evaluation question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in
the progression from it to the full product?
Preliminary Exercise
 Our preliminary exercise was to film a conversation that included three
main areas: a shot-reverse-shot, the 180 degree rule and a match on
action.
 We filmed a match on action by making a character walk through a door,
we first filmed from the side of them placing there hand on the door
handle, opening the door and walking through, we re-filmed this as a
close up of the hand on the door handle, to keep continuity the character
had to use the same hand, lastly we filmed from inside the room of the
character walking in.
 To demonstrate a shot reverse shot we filmed the character having a
conversation. We used over the shoulder shots to film each characters
facial reactions and each of the characters talking.
 Throughout this we used the 180 degree rule to keep the background of
the shots the same as to not disorientate the viewer.
Main Task
 Our main task was to film and edit the opening two minuets of a film with
titles.
 We included all of the aspects from the preliminary task into our opening
sequence. We used a match on action of Sophia lifting a cup to take a drink,
by doing this we were also able to include a wipe to introduce the director.
 Throughout our therapy sessions we consistently used shot reverse shots to
show Lucy’s reactions to the situation that Sophia was talking about.
 The 180 degree rule was used constantly throughout the task as if it was
broken it would disorientate the viewer.
Comparison
 The thing we did better in the main task compared to the preliminary exercise
is shot reverse shots, this is because we made it much clearer and also angled
and framed our shots better. In our preliminary exercise we framed our shots
too wide, we achieved this better in our main task because we aimed our
frames so that there wasn’t too much space around the shot.
 In our main film we used jump cuts. This is a new technique we decided to
uses as it disorientated the viewer, we achieved the jump cut by filming short
takes of Lucy at different distances away from the body.
