Evaluation Q7
1. EVALUATION Q7:
Looking back at your preliminary task,
what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
2. What brief were we working to as a
group?
We filmed a group preliminary exercise which involved
shooting a continuity task. We filmed and edited Tyler
(one of our group members) opening a door, crossing a
room and sitting down in a chair opposite me, (Kiera)
which then followed onto a conversation about a job
interview. This task demonstrated match on action,
shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.
3. How have we used the things we learnt in our
preliminary task in our 2 minute opening?
• We gained cinematography and editing skills in our
preliminary exercise as we learnt how to use the correct
equipment, how to film shots and doing so without
crossing filmmaker’s rules.
• It was important to grasp the idea of not crossing the 180
degree line because if we did, the film would have been
shot incorrectly and it would be difficult to understand the
setting/ locations of characters as an audience.
• We also got a better understanding of how to experiment
with our editing software and bring shots together to
create a short clip.
4. What have you got better at?
• As a group, we have progressed hugely from the
preliminary task to the 2 minute opening sequel. We
grasped a better understanding of lighting and managed
to use this learning to film some interesting, clear shots
with clarity which differed from the quite dull shots in
our preliminary task.
• We learnt to balance our camera better in order to limit
shakiness etc. We decided to go out of our comfort zone
and do a couple of handheld shots which differed from
our preliminary task as we didn’t use a variety of ways to
film.
• We also expanded our learning when editing our two
minute opening sequel and used colour correction,
sound effects, video effects, audio effects and more.
