application of first aid.
ACTIVITY 1: “EMERGENCY!
EMERGENCY! WHAT WILL I
DO?
The class will be divided into groups.
Each group will pick a situation and do
the necessary, immediate and
appropriate action.
SITUATION 1
Your younger sister
cuts her finger with a
knife.
SITUATION 2
Your friend falls
down the stairs from
the 2nd floor and can
hardly stand.
SITUATION 3
Your mother
accidentally touches
a hot pan.
SITUATION 4
Your classmate has
drunk poison.
SITUATION 5
Your baby brother
accidentally swallows
a small part of a car
toy and get stuck in
his throat.
PROCESS QUESTIONS:
Who are the victims of accidents? Where do
accidents happen? Why do they happen?
Are these situations preventable? How?
What will you do if these happens?
Why do we need to give immediate action to
an emergency situation?
FIRST AID
WHAT IS FIRST AID?
FIRST AID
 Is an immediate and temporary care
given to a person who suddenly gets ill or
injured.
 It includes self-help and home care if
medical assistance is not available or
delayed.
ROLES OF FIRST AID
1. Serves a bridge that fills the gap between
the victim and the physician.
2. It is not intended to compete with or to
take place of the service of physician.
3. It ends when the services of the physician
begin.
OBJECTIVES OF FIRST AID
1. To save lives
2. To prolong life
3. To alleviate suffering
4. To prevent further injury
CHARACTERISTICS OF
GOOD FIRST AIDER
GENTLE – does not cause pain and panic
OBSERVANT – notices all signs
RESOURCEFUL – makes the best of the things at
hand
TACTFUL – does not frighten the victim’
SYMPATHETIC – comforts and reassures the victim
PRINCIPLES OF FIRST AID
DOS IN GIVING FIRST AID DON’TS IN GIVING FIRST AID
o Do stay calm
o Do reassure and comfort the
victim
o Do check for medical bracelet
indicating a condition, such as
epilepsy or diabetes
o Do loosen any tight clothing
o Do keep the victim covered to
reduce shock
o Don’t give food and drink to
unconscious person
o Don’t move an injured person
unless you need to place
him/her in the recovery
position.
ACTIVITY: ORGANIZE YOUR THOUGHTS
o With the same group, present the information given
from the information card through a creative
graphical organizer. You may follow the example
below.

ASSESSMENT
ANALYZE THE SITUATIONS AND ANSWER THE
QUESTIONS THAT FOLLOW:
o Student A is very relaxed in controlling
the bleeding on her classmate’s finger.
o Student B is insisting that her
unconscious sister drink water.
o Student C immediately brings her
friend who feel down the stairs to the
clinic.
o Student D makes use of his clean
handkerchief to tie his best friend’s
bleeding arm.
o Student E speaks comforting words to
her cousin who sprained his ankle
while playing basketball.

  • 2. LEARNING COMPETENCY: Explain the meaning & importance of First Aid. Develop the sense of responsibility to help others through the knowledge and application of first aid.
  • 3. ACTIVITY 1: “EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! WHAT WILL I DO? The class will be divided into groups. Each group will pick a situation and do the necessary, immediate and appropriate action.
  • 4. SITUATION 1 Your younger sister cuts her finger with a knife.
  • 5. SITUATION 2 Your friend falls down the stairs from the 2nd floor and can hardly stand.
  • 7. SITUATION 4 Your classmate has drunk poison.
  • 8. SITUATION 5 Your baby brother accidentally swallows a small part of a car toy and get stuck in his throat.
  • 9. PROCESS QUESTIONS: Who are the victims of accidents? Where do accidents happen? Why do they happen? Are these situations preventable? How? What will you do if these happens? Why do we need to give immediate action to an emergency situation?
  • 10. FIRST AID WHAT IS FIRST AID?
  • 11. FIRST AID  Is an immediate and temporary care given to a person who suddenly gets ill or injured.  It includes self-help and home care if medical assistance is not available or delayed.
  • 12. ROLES OF FIRST AID 1. Serves a bridge that fills the gap between the victim and the physician. 2. It is not intended to compete with or to take place of the service of physician. 3. It ends when the services of the physician begin.
  • 13. OBJECTIVES OF FIRST AID 1. To save lives 2. To prolong life 3. To alleviate suffering 4. To prevent further injury
  • 14. CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD FIRST AIDER GENTLE – does not cause pain and panic OBSERVANT – notices all signs RESOURCEFUL – makes the best of the things at hand TACTFUL – does not frighten the victim’ SYMPATHETIC – comforts and reassures the victim
  • 15. PRINCIPLES OF FIRST AID DOS IN GIVING FIRST AID DON’TS IN GIVING FIRST AID o Do stay calm o Do reassure and comfort the victim o Do check for medical bracelet indicating a condition, such as epilepsy or diabetes o Do loosen any tight clothing o Do keep the victim covered to reduce shock o Don’t give food and drink to unconscious person o Don’t move an injured person unless you need to place him/her in the recovery position.
  • 16. ACTIVITY: ORGANIZE YOUR THOUGHTS o With the same group, present the information given from the information card through a creative graphical organizer. You may follow the example below. FIRST AID
  • 17. PROCESS QUESTIONS: o What should we remember when giving first aid? o Why is it important to understand and follow the basics of first aid? o What is the ultimate goal in giving first aid?
  • 18. ASSESSMENT ANALYZE THE SITUATIONS AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THAT FOLLOW:
  • 19. o Student A is very relaxed in controlling the bleeding on her classmate’s finger. o Student B is insisting that her unconscious sister drink water. o Student C immediately brings her friend who feel down the stairs to the clinic. o Student D makes use of his clean handkerchief to tie his best friend’s bleeding arm. o Student E speaks comforting words to her cousin who sprained his ankle while playing basketball. 1.Who among the students are good first aiders? 2.Who among them are not good first aiders? 3.What characteristics should a good first aider possess? 4.If you were a first aider, what would be your ultimate goal?
