This document summarizes Stephen Covey's 7 Habits book about habit #3, "Put First Things First". It discusses time management and prioritization. The key points are: 1) Habit #3 is about deciding your most important priorities or "compass" rather than just reacting to urgent tasks; 2) It identifies four quadrants for tasks based on their importance and urgency - the goal is to focus on important but not urgent quadrant 2 tasks; 3) Procrastination is the main block to habit #3, leading to stress, while prioritizing leads to excellence.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

10. Quadrant 1: The
Procrastinator
Major block of Habit # 3
Procrastination is a challenge we have all faced at one
point or another.
Planning is out of the question for the Procrastinator
Leads to stress:
Anxiety
Stress
12. Quadrant 3: The Yes-Man
This quadrant is characterized by trying to please other
people and responding to their every desire.
Not important for you but to the other people.
Results:
1) Reputation for being a "pleaser"
2) Lack of discipline
3) Feeling like a doormat for others to wipe their feet on.
13. Quadrant 4: The Slacker
This is the quadrant of waste and excess.
This person loves anything in excess, like too much TV,
sleep, or video games.
Nothing productive will get done if you spend time in this
quadrant
The results of living in Q4 are:
1) Lack of responsibility
2) Guilt
14. Quadrant 2: Prioritization
This is the quadrant of excellence -- the place you want
to BE!
The person who Prioritize is clearly someone who takes
time to plan.
The person who prioritize takes care of things they own
such as their car making sure the oil is changed on time
and that they have enough fuel in the tank.
