Applying And Choosing A Place Of Higher Education Essay
As childhood comfort slowly slips away when children transition from elementary, middle, to high
school, the idea that seemed so fantastical in toddlers daydreams becomes concrete and frightening:
the future. High school students are presented with a short four year period to decide what they want
to pursue, and the junior year of high school is where most students are hit hardest. As a junior, the
daunting task of preparing for one s future is suddenly presented, and everything one has
accomplished in life, in combination with many standardized tests, will be assembled to do one task:
applying and choosing a place of higher education. Three important criteria in college searching are
admission standards, location, and athletic programs, and two post high school institutions, Rice
University and the University of California Berkeley, will be compared based on these aspects. As a
primary benchmark, the admission standards for a university will need to be evaluated in order to
decide if a college is suitable for one s academic rigor. Admission standards for Rice University
consist of either the SAT and two SAT Subject Tests in fields related to their proposed area of study, or
the ACT Plus Writing test ( Standardized Testing ) in addition to: a high school transcript, the
Common Application with Rice Writing Supplement, $75 dollar application fee, a counselor
recommendation, one teacher recommendation, and midyear grades from senior year; the office of

Essay on Sumerel v. Goodyear Tire Rubber Company Case Study
Sumerel v. Goodyear Tire Rubber Company (pp. 394 396)
The Parties:
The Parties in this case are Bob and Sallie Sumerel, Steven and Ann Berzin, Dane and Kerry Dicke,
and Bart Kaufman and Good Year Tire Rubber Company. Bob and Sallie Sumerel, Steven and Ann
Berzin, Dane and Kerry Dicke, and Bart Kaufman are all the plaintiffs and appellants since they are
suing and also appealing the decision. The Good Year Tire Rubber Company is the defendant and the
appellees since they are being sued and contesting the appeal.
History of the case:

Since the hose was put in the vehicles Good Year was liable for any issue caused by this hose. They
want to be compensated for all other cost and losses they encountered because of this.
The defendant s theory
Good Year doesn t feel they are responsible for the other cost and losses suffered by the Plaintiffs in
this case. Good Year feel like if they pay the correct amount they will have satisfied the courts
decision. Once the attorneys calculated the correct amount and tried to fix the issue Good Year felt
they were only obligated to pay that amount only.
The legal issue
Should the Plaintiffs really get the $1.3 million ordered by the Courts? Should they be awarded any
money for their other cost and losses ?
The holding of the court
It was found that no, Good Year Tire Rubber Company was not responsible for the other cost and
losses of the Plaintiffs. Good Year was not obligated to pay the Plaintiffs since there was no agreement
made for payment. The error that was found was bought to Good Year s attention but the attorneys
failed to agree on the correct amount.
What do you think?
I think that Good Year Tires should pay the Plaintiffs the correct amount from the parentages the
courts ordered them to pay. The Plaintiffs attorneys should have ensured they make an agreement on
their behalf once the discrepancy was found. The emails and charts was a start but the best thing

Sainsbury Social Responsibility
Responsibility is an integral part of Sainsbury s work culture and it has been firm on its beliefs that
taking from the society shall always be far lesser than what Sainsbury s is giving back to the society.
The Corporate social responsibility framework has been implemented by Sainsbury s by keeping in
mind that the environment and society always gets the benefits of what Sainsbury s is doing to achieve
that, it is necessary that sustainable development practices are brought into action and this is exactly
what Sainsbury s is doing right now (Kay, 2008). Not only the society or environment, but CSR for
Sainsbury s also incorporates fair ethical business practices. The first step that refers to this is giving a
fair share to those from whom Sainsbury s procure its products. The 20 X 20 sustainability plans give

The Bean Trees Analysis
Throughout The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver, Marietta Missy Greer goes through many
changes. For example, she changes her name to Taylor, adopts a child, and experiences life changing
events. When she left Pittman County, she probably did not expect to have a family that she avoided
having in the beginning. Taylor left her home in Kentucky because she did not want to end up like all
the other girls who did not finish school, got married early, and did not have much to look forward to
in life. Taylor wanted a better life for herself so she left and made a new life in Tucson, Arizona. Some
significant items that changed Taylor s life along the way were Lou Ann s ad in the newspaper, a
photo of her with Estevan after Esperanza s suicide attempt, and Turtle s custody documents. These
items are very meaningful because they play an important role in Taylor s new life
Lou Ann s ad in the newspaper is sentimental to Taylor since they become great friends and family.
When Taylor arrived in Tucson, she did not know anyone besides Mattie and felt lost. The difference
between Kentucky and Arizona is clear when she says, In Tucson, it was clear that there was nobody
overlooking us all. We would just have to find our own way (Kingsolver 63 64). In Pittman County,
everyone knew each other and is a bit nosy, but in Tucson, no one talks to her or is interested in what
she is here for. Seeing Lou Ann s ad and deciding to move in with her and Dwayne Ray was a decision

Different Opinions And Ideas About The Theories Of...
In this class, we have discussed many different opinions and ideas about the theories of personalities.
Of these, I have chosen to incorporate ideas from myself, McAdams, Freud, Jung, Adler, and Horney.
I believe that there are seven personality types and each is displayed as a personification in a character
from the Peanuts cartoons and comics. The personalities are Neuroticism, Openness to Experience and
Imagination, Psychoticism, Passive Aggressive Dependency, Histrionicism, Introversion, and
Extraversion. These personality types make up the world, and I believe that any single person can
actually have several different personalities. It can be noted that three of the Big Five by McAdams
are included in my breakdown of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Horney came up with a list of ten needs that Neurotic people have. These needs include The Neurotic
need for affection and approval which Charlie Brown clearly shows in his worry about how others
view him (Hall, Lindzey, Campbell, 1998) ; The Neurotic ambition for personal achievement which is
displayed in his over analysis of everything to try and always improve himself for personal
achievement(Hall, Lindzey, Campbell, 1998) ; And The Neurotic need for perfection and
unassailability which is again shown in his worry over his inadequacies (Hall, Lindzey, Campbell,
1998) . These negative feelings and thoughts toward everyday life lead me to believe that Charlie
Brown is a near perfect personification of neuroticism.
Openness to Experience and Imagination In the Peanuts comic, Linus is known as Charlie Brown s
best friend and he carries around a blanket most of the time. This security blanket helps Linus be open
to experiences and imagination. McAdams describes openness to experience as a cluster of
characteristics having to do with how reflective, imaginative, artistic, and refined a person is
(McAdams, 2009). Linus is one of the most thoughtful, intelligent and inviting of the characters in
Peanuts. He listens to others while thoughtfully thinking about what is said, and he keeps his mind
wide open to the possibility that he will see things that others may not. For example, Linus is the only

Celebration written by W.D. Valgardson.
Feelings of Helplessness
At one point or another we all succumb to the feeling of helplessness in our lives. Whether it is a
feeling of not being able to break free of an abusive loved one or being trapped by a bad storm, the
natural animal instinct of survival is apparent. Celebration written by W.D. Valgardson studies that
instinct and the helplessness of situations that drives us to it.
Valgardson introduces various situations that require survival techniques in the story. One is the
helplessness of the children in the violent home atmosphere and the poverty that they live in.
Whenever Eric and Mabel fought, the children hid under the Toronto couch, lying absolutely still,
making no sound for hours on end. (61) The action of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Eric s disposition and temperament. Valgardson also uses a great deal of irony in the story, in the

Similarities Between George Washington And Thomas Jefferson
A comparison can be made between the President and Founding Fathers George Washington and
Thomas Jefferson. I will be comparing the ways that they dealt with foreign affairs, also domestic
affairs. In addition, I will also be talking about how they viewed the position of President of the
United States. At the end of this essay I hope to show that President and Founding Fathers George
washington and Thomas Jefferson are in ways similar.
George Washington was one of the founding fathers of the United States of America and also the first
president of the united states was the unanimous decision on who should lead the united states after
they broke away from Great Britain s power. George washington believed that being the first President

Effect of Inhaling Various Concentrations of CO2 on...
Effect of Inhaling Various Concentrations of CO2 on Electrical Activity of the Heart The human body
functions best in a relatively stable environment. Deviations out of the acceptable ranges of tolerance
have unpleasant consequences. In such a way, drastic changes in the air humans breathe have
calamitous effects of body. Respiration is the basis for gas exchange, as oxygen is inhaled and carbon
dioxide is exhaled. In some settings such as in small, enclosed rooms, when oxygen consumption
exceeds production, or with diseases such COPD, humans breathe in dangerously high concentrations
of CO2. For this reason, it is important to analyze the properties of carbon dioxide, its role in the body,

The Dorsal Respiratory Group in the brainstem consists of inspiratory neurons, which in coordination
with inspiratory neurons of the Ventral Respiratory Group, receive signals by the afferent pathway
from mechanoreceptors and chemoreceptors and signal for inspiration. The phrenic motor neurons
receive the efferent signal via the medulla oblongata to cause the diaphragm to contract down and
external intercostal muscles to contract up and o, and the negative pressure causes air to enter lungs
from the atmosphere. The oxygen diffuses into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide diffuses into
lungs. Most oxygen molecules then bind to hemoglobin in red blood cells. The expiratory neurons of
VRG send impulses to expiratory muscles of rectus abdominus and internal intercostals contract down
while the diaphragm relaxes, and this causes air to leave the lugs and out the mouth or nostrils. The
exhaled air contains about 5.6 percent CO2 (Dakota Gasification, n.d.). During eupnea, quiet normal
breathing, inspiration takes about 1 2 seconds and expiration takes 2 3 seconds (Mateika, 2007).
Humans normally breathe at 12 15 breathes per minute. The total lung capacity is slightly below 6
liters (Tamarkin, 2011). The tidal volume, amount of air breathed in at rest, is about 500 milliliters.
Humans can breathe in around 3 liters and out 5 liters, termed as vital capacity. The residual volume,

Battle Against Evil
Night by Elie Wiesel and Hangman by Maurice Ogden both make strong points of view towards the
battle between mankind and evil. Wiesel s personal experiences give the reader very specific and
down to the point accounts of the Holocaust. In contrast, Ogden musical poem gives the reader a very
indistinguishable idea of what is taking place. One must examine rhyme over and over to be given the

Five forces analysis: 1) The bargaining power of suppliers * As some producers such as Ice Fili

The Debate Over Vaccinations for Adults and Children Essay
A very controversial issue these days is whether or not to receive immunizations. I am a young mother
and I tend to follow my mothers and doctors advice when it comes to mine and my children s health, I
feel as though my doctor has the best advice on how I can keep us all happy and healthy, however this
is not the case for everyone. Many questions have arisen about immunizations and there are quite a
few people who are either hesitant to or will not have themselves and their children immunized.
I am a person who believes that children and adults should be immunized, by not receiving
vaccinations it is possible to be putting the public at risk for more diseases. It should not matter what
the parents philosophical or religious views are. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This enables our bodies to develop the antibodies to fight off the disease without having to get sick
first.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, most childhood vaccines are 90 99% effective in
preventing disease. Under some circumstances the children that have been vaccinated do get the
disease; they usually have milder symptoms with less serious complications than a child who has not
had the same vaccination. This proves that there are more risks with not being vaccinated than being
vaccinated.
Back in 2005 there was an outbreak of rotavirus gastroenteritis in Nicaragua, this caused high
mortality and hospitalization. There was a case study done to see if the children who had passed away
had access to routine immunizations, in which the children should have been given the rotavirus
vaccination. The results of this study showed that with a rotavirus vaccine the seasonal outbreaks
could be diminished.
Rotavirus gastroenteritis is not the only disease that has been an issue. Polio paralyzed about 37,000
and killed about 1,700 every year in the 1950 s in the United States. About 15,000 people died each
year from diphtheria before there was a vaccine, and up to 70,000 children a year were hospitalized
for rotavirus.
There are also financial reasons that children should receive their vaccinations. According to a statistic

but only for the glory of beating the enemies not caring about the loss. He haphazardly gave orders to
send men to their deaths without carefully analyzing the seriousness of the predicament that they are

islands without much preparation and caused many unnecessary deaths and miscalculations. They
were so rushed for victory that many soldiers died in the war. The US and Tall could have handled the
situation with more planning. Something that he could also compare is the fact that most of the time
the two were more acting behind the scenes and were not actively in the battle. While Tall was safely
at the bottom of the hill away from the bunkers, he was furious when Staros would not send his men
uphill to battle when it was clearly disadvantage on their side. Similarly the U.S. just sent out more

Smoking Meat In Early America
Smoking meat was also a way of preserving it. To smoke meat it was first salted or soaked in brine
and then hung in a smoke house to slowly dry. The smoke house required a smoky fire under the meat
for days to weeks. Smoking meat took time and care to do. Potting was another storage form that
allowed meat to be stored for a year. Meat from a cow or pig would be put into a big kettle and boiled
over a fire while the fat would be melted in a spider, a skillet with skinny legs that was used over fire.
The fat was melted in the spider until it became a liquid. The meat, once boiled for hours, was cooled
and then placed in a crock. The liquid fat was poured over the meat until it covered all parts and was

Planting, gathering, hunting, and preparing food took a large part of the colonists day. The need for the
colonists to make and use special kitchen tools and adapt to using natural food sources available and
learn to store them for winter was imperative to their survival. Knowing how the colonists were able
to use the things they had explains many of the foods we still eat today and how we prepare them. The
equipment used, like the lug pole which the colonist improved upon and made an iron swing arm, is
an example of the colonists adapting to the new world. The design of the pots and kettles with legs to
help cook the food without burning was also important. To make cooking safer they also had long
handles on pots and kettles. Finding fresh ingredients and crops that they could renew was a necessary
part of the colonists survival as well. To figure out what was edible and how to prepare it, the colonists
looked to the Native Americans. The colonial cook had to substitute many ingredients like wheat flour
with corn flour, and learn new ingredients like corn, pumpkin, beans, and cranberries. Having these
fruits and vegetables fresh was great, but to survive the colonists needed to preserve and store food for
the winters. They once again looked to the Native Americans for advice. Many different techniques
were used including drying, salting, brining, potting, and jellying. America of today and American
foods like corn, popcorn, cornbread, baked beans, cranberry juice, and pumpkin pie are all handed
down to us thanks to the Native Americans and the early colonists. In order to survive the colonists

Similarities Between Crocodile Dundee And Red Dog Mateship
Good morning/Afternoon Ms Phillips and fellow peers, today this speech is going to be examining
how mateship is represented within the two films, Crocodile Dundee and Red Dog . Mateship has
been developed over many years through the actions of loyalty and respect that individuals have
demonstrated. Within both films, all the characters show characteristics of mateship when they protect
and look after each other. This speech will argue how mateship is positively portrayed through the
actions from the characters.
The Aussie icon, mateship, has evolved and developed over hundreds of years as Australians have
portrayed the characteristics in reality and through movies. Crocodile Dundee is an Australian comedy

During the movie it explains how certain people within the community has had their life changed in a
dramatic way because of the choices they made, the most dramatic life decisions that they made has
something to do when they were with Red Dog. Red Dog symbolised the community and the mateship
between everyone. Each person has a different relationship with each other but they all show each
other respect and they get it back in return. Everyone believed that Red Dog was a part of the town,
not just a pet that could be replaced at any time, the community values the relationships between

Making A Design With Registration Marks
We all have printed some sort of document in our lives whether that is digital or not, but we don t
know how the process behind it. This paper is about three different printing methods. Screen printing,
Digital printing and 3D printing. It will go deeper into how each process works and how we get the
printed product.
First, Screen printing is used to print on materials such as paper, fabric glass and even hard surfaces
such as metal most people use screen printing for signs labels and decals such as stamps (Printing
Process Descriptions: Environment and Printing). There are several steps that you must go through
before you can get a finished product. You must first create a design with registration marks. The

While some areas were not filled with emulsion these will need to be taped up. Next, flood the screen
with ink all over your design with a squeegee. Finally, put your material such as a shirt below the
screen apply some pressure (Printing Process Descriptions). The next process is a bit easier to work
with than screen printing, because the next method does all the printing for you with the push of a
button.
The second method is digital printing which is done by an ink jet printer or Xerography. When an
image is printed by an ink jet printer, it uses small drops of ink. They can print on paper, doors and
plastic materials. Digital printing is mostly used for promotional material such as posters, signs,
brochures and booklets. It is also used for short running printing such as books for photography and
digital based files such as PDF. Before you print you must format the document so you can have the
correct color and size of the graphic. This make the printing job much easier on you as graphic
designer. You should be calibrating your computer to match print color settings. The computer s colors
are vastly different from the printer settings so it is preferred that you print in CMYK colors. The ink
jet printing are used with other presses to produce mailing items such as addresses. In the past most
jobs used offset printing, flexo printing and the previously

A leader s style can be classified as transactional, transformational, or what is considered level 5. A
transactional leader creates a very structured environment. Those leaders employing transactional
leadership create clearly defined responsibilities for employees and subordinates. Transactional
leadership details the rewards for success; unfortunately, transactional leadership also encompasses an
element of punishment for failure. The punishment can be something as simple as a reprimand for
small infractions up to termination for more serious infractions; the consequences are usually well
documented as a formal policy. The transformational leadership style goes far beyond transactional
leadership. A transformational leadership style is characterized by high energy, sensibility, clarity in
direction, and empathy. Transformational leaders inspire subordinates to go beyond the norm and
achieve goals on a greater scale than they thought possible. The transformational leader promotes a
mentoring relationship rather than a monitoring relationship. Which leadership style is better? The
answer would be neither, both have their place. The culture and potential problems facing a company
are factors that determine which leadership style works best. While the leadership style is important,
the leader is just as important. Anyone can be a manager, but what does it take to become a great
leader? What sets level 5 leaders apart from

Boy Scouts Expectations
When I was in the sixth grade I decided to join the boy scouts, my reasoning was simple. I thought it
would be beneficial when I would apply to High Schools and it would look paramount on my resume.
I also thought that it would be a great opportunity to learn and develop more qualities within myself. I
learned numerous life skills and procedures that will play an important role in specific scenarios that
will occur throughout my life time. Gaining all this excess knowledge will only expand my mindset
and create a better version of me. Currently I am in the eighth grade and my reasoning has changed
dramatically. While some of my peers have made the choice to leave the boy scouts, I have remained

Psychological Problems And Development Of Childhood...
Introduction The developmental psychopathology approach is the study of psychological problems
and complexities in human development. It focuses on the atypical development of childhood through
to adult life. According to Sroufe and Rutter (1984) it focuses on individual patterns of adaptation and
maladaptation throughout development. This approach is designed to prevent behavioural and
emotional differences within development, whilst positively reinforcing the idea of typical
development. Cases of atypical development can include ADHD, eating disorders, anxiety and many
other developmental disorders that differ from the developmental population norm. According to
Ciccheti (1984) developmental psychopathology must draw upon the results of many different areas of
research: in particular, general developmental psychology, traditional academic psychology, and also
the clinical sciences of psychiatry and clinical psychology (p.1) This implies that to find the link
between typical and atypical behaviour, researchers must draw upon the social, biological and
psychological aspects of a persons life. Cummings et al (2003) believed that developmental
psychopathology is best defined by its primary goal; achieving a science that could unravel the
dynamic process relations underlying pathways of normal development and the development of
psychopathology (p.17) From this it is assumed that this approach aims to expand the knowledge of
developmental disorders that affect the typical

Theme Of Anthropology In The Movie Avatar
Biocultural anthropology looks at the relationships between human biology and culture. In the movie
Avatar, the Na vi are humanoids species native to Pandora, standing 6 feet tall with blue skin and a
long tail; But one of the characters, Parker Selfridge from the human world, a selfish and greedy man,
refers the Na vi as blue monkeys and savages . The Na vi natives are very spiritual believers and they
believe all living beings in Pandora lives in unity. Every living creature that is born on Pandora has
neural connection fibers. Not only Humanoids and animals have these neural connection fibers but
also trees which allows all breathing creatures to plug in to each other s neural system network. This
lets them feel each other s thoughts and emotions. In the movie, Jake Sully, a human man, is
connected to the Na vi world by a computer generated machine that links his mind with his avatar
body which could interact with the natives of Pandora. He finds himself feeling more connected with
himself in his avatar body than his actual body in the real world; For the reason that in the real world,
he is paralyzed and can t walk so he feels handicapped. In his avatar body, he could be normal again
and do the things he couldn t do in real life like run on his two feet. Also, humans didn t know how to
connect with each other s feelings and he was able to connect and feel the spirits and emotions with

Safe Port Act Of 2006
SAFE Port Act of 2006 Terrorism has been one of the major concerns of the entire world; however,
the incident of 9/11 entirely changed the perception of governments towards the issue of terrorism. In
this regard, the United States of America has significantly improvised its approach towards dealing
with terrorism. The approach of the U.S. is also justifiable as the United States is the only country that
had to face the maximum ramifications caused by terrorism as thousands of people have lost their
lives in multiple terrorist acts. Moreover, the U.S. has also tolerated the loss of billions of dollars in
the shape of loss of capital, and investing in improved military and intelligence services. Despite of all
these efforts, the U.S. has always felt the threat of terrorist activities; based on this fact, the
government and legislature of the United States of America has enacted many acts of Congress to
ensure the security of the residents, capital, and assets of the country. Out of various strategies to make
United States a safer country, the Security and Accountability for Every (SAFE) Port Act in
considered the most imperative yet debated topic among the politicians as well as the public of the
U.S.
Introduction of Safe Port Act of 2006 The basic purpose of the Act was to control all the ongoing
activities of every single port of United States to ensure the safety of United States from the threats of
terrorist activities. President Bush signed the Act on 13 October 2006.

Introduction Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder ( ADHD ) is a common childhood disorder that
represents developmentally inappropriate levels of inattention, impulsivity and overactivity. It occurs
in 3% to 5% of the school age population as stated by (Craighead, Craighead, Kazdin Mahoney,

classroom. As a result of these statistics, ADHD has become one of the most commonly referred and

Some major causal variables that have been identified are categorised as neurological factors, toxic
reactions, genetic linkages and environmental factors. However, most of the available evidence found,
points to neurological factors, which are imbalances of neurotransmitters in the brain, and genetic
variables as the primary causes of ADHD. The environmental factors and toxic reactions (such as lead
exposure and food additives) are considered very minimal causes of ADHD. The search for causes of
ADHD continues. There are many variables which are biological or thought to have an affect on
biological functioning. Assessment of ADHD An evaluation of a child with ADHD includes multiple
assessment techniques. The main goals of the assessment are: 1. to gather information about the
developmental deviance of ADHD symptoms or other behavioural problems. 2. to rule out other
psychiatric, learning or emotional problems that may be causing inattention, impulsivity, and/or
overactivity. 3. to determine the degree of consistency between the sources and across situations with
respect to reports of behaviours associated with ADHD. 4. to identify and prioritise targets for

Comparing A Streetcar Named Desire And A View From The Bridge
The plays A Streetcar Named Desire and A View from the Bridge are both plays that focus on mainly
the theme of domination of the female characters by the males. Where A Streetcar Named Desire is a
Southern Gothic, A View from a Bridge is a tragedy that is actually similar to Williams play as they
both end tragically for the main character. Each playwright uses their own method and techniques in
order to get the message or point of view across to the audience members.
In A Streetcar Named Desire, the form of a Southern Gothic gives the readers its distinct build up of

In scene one, Williams considers this scene as the one of the most important scenes of the whole play

layers of Stella s brain mentally in order for Stella to understand.

Importance Of Psalm 116
Psalm 116 is a great read for us as Christians and for us as moms. Psalms 116 speaks of the benefits
and blessings of God s Word. But, in order to get the benefits and blessings of the Word we must first
study, meditate, and walk out the passages. My greatest motivation for keeping God s Word close to
my heart and my study game strong is my children.
At some point our children will leave us, they will leave our homes and start their own, they will leave
a piece of our family as they marry and begin their own. How refreshing is it to know that the wisdom
and discretion they learn from God s Word is able to protect and guard them even when we can t be
with them. Here s the question though, how will our children learn of God s Word?
Let s dive in, start off by reading Psalm 116:9 16.
9.How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. 10. I seek you with all
my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 11. I have hidden your word in my heart that I
might not sin against you 12.Praise be to you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. 13. With my lips I
recount all the laws that come from your mouth. 14. I rejoice in following your statues as one rejoices
in great riches. 15. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. 16. I delight in your decrees; I
will not neglect your word.
1. What are some of the ways the psalmist sought after God s Word?
Now read Psalm 116:49 52.
49. Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope.

The General Overhead And Construction Projects Essay
In the past, the general overhead in construction projects was not important compared to project costs.
However, with the new construction environment and its changes such as the high usage of lean, BIM,
and LEED, everything has changed. Nowadays, most of the construction contractors are measuring
their general overhead costs and trying to control it. To gain profits, they started to allocate their
general overhead costs to different construction projects they are working on. In this paper, we
investigate how a construction company (general contractor) manages its general overhead costs.
Preceding this stage, we should provide few definitions of the general overhead costs in order to give
readers a deep insight of what this paper is about. Moreover, it is essential to explain how construction
contractors allocate their general overhead costs to construction projects, what methods they tend to
use for allocating, and what advantages and disadvantages does every method have. Further, we shift
our focus to activity based costing method by defining it and describing its steps. Since the main
purpose of this paper is to examine how construction contractors deal with their general overhead
costs, an interview should be conducted to know how contractors allocate general overhead cost to
construction projects to get profits. Indeed, each construction contractor may use a specific method
when allocating. Due to our interest in estimating, the interview was conducted with a senior

The Importance Of Government Censorship On Social Media
In an age where more and more people are using social media for both personal and professional
reasons, there is an increasing amount of government censorship, as well as self censorship, evident
on widely used social media platforms. After conducting research on this topic, I have discovered the
very fine line between using social networking sites for personal uses versus professional uses.
According to scholars, while only 47% of nonacademics use social media for professional purposes,
about 91% of university faculty members use social networking sites in class or for other professional
reasons (Moran, Seaman, Tinti Kane, 2011). Professionals, particularly academic professionals, have
to keep a squeaky clean presence on social media. In this paper, I will discuss my research regarding
self censorship on social media, government intervention and censorship and what that means for the
American principle of free speech, and tell some stories of individuals who have personal experiences
with these problems.
Freedom of speech is a basic right in America, granted to citizens by the Frist Amendment to the
Constitution of the United States. Many countries do not have laws protecting free speech, and in fact
have censorship laws that do the exact opposite. Many Americans as well as other people around the
world use social media as a means of expressing their own views and opinions on topics such as
politics, world news, social justice issues, and simply to express themselves as

development since the late Cenozoic Era, approximately 65 million years ago (Schoenherr, 59). As
continental drift carried the North American continent westward, tectonic uplift raised the shore line
several hundred feet above the current sea levels. Over time, the river wore through the uplifted
terraces, though the narrowness of the floodplain indicates that the flow was generally not large. In the
Holocene Epoch(200,000 years ago), as the polar caps melted and the sea rose, the exposed
continental shelf was reclaimed by the ocean. As the ocean waters rose, rivers were covered and
lagoons were formed as sandy barriers formed deposited by long shore drift

Similarities Between Justin Trudeau And Angela Merkel
Justin Trudeau and Angela Merkel are confusing politicians because while both are considered radical,
they often ignore political parties norms and do what is best for their country, continent and the world.
Justin Trudeau assumed office as Canadian Prime Minister in 2015 with goals of raising taxes on the
wealthy, improving international relationships, and boosting federal spending to pull Canada out of an
economic recession. While in Germany, Angela Merkel has reigned as German Chancellor for over a
decade, and while she has modified her political promises, her goals remain rooted in right wing
German Conservatism. As a member of the Christian Democratic Union party of Germany and de
facto leader of the European Union, Merkel has fought to establish Christianity as a core value for the

It is clear that Trudeau is focused on globalization and in a recent meeting with US President Donald
Trump stated that only minor changes should be made to the North American Free Trade Act (Jackson
and Slack). In addition to NAFTA, Trudeau has been a key member in the Trans Pacific Partnership,
which allows for easier trade across borders. Both international agreements support the idea of free
trade across borders and overall globalization. Trudeau also promised to spend $100,000,000 on
resettling 25,000 Syrian refugees in 2015 (Plucinska), and since has only built on his goal, allowing
over 40,000 refugees into Canada. Trudeau s international policies of borderless societies and his will
to fulfill the needs of the world s most desperate parallel Karl Marx s Communist ideologies. Justin
Trudeau actions, both nationally and internationally, show his commitment to the Proletariat class, and
his beliefs in globalism, tax breaks for the middle class, and secularism prove that he favors

  • 2. Applying And Choosing A Place Of Higher Education Essay As childhood comfort slowly slips away when children transition from elementary, middle, to high school, the idea that seemed so fantastical in toddlers daydreams becomes concrete and frightening: the future. High school students are presented with a short four year period to decide what they want to pursue, and the junior year of high school is where most students are hit hardest. As a junior, the daunting task of preparing for one s future is suddenly presented, and everything one has accomplished in life, in combination with many standardized tests, will be assembled to do one task: applying and choosing a place of higher education. Three important criteria in college searching are admission standards, location, and athletic programs, and two post high school institutions, Rice University and the University of California Berkeley, will be compared based on these aspects. As a primary benchmark, the admission standards for a university will need to be evaluated in order to decide if a college is suitable for one s academic rigor. Admission standards for Rice University consist of either the SAT and two SAT Subject Tests in fields related to their proposed area of study, or the ACT Plus Writing test ( Standardized Testing ) in addition to: a high school transcript, the Common Application with Rice Writing Supplement, $75 dollar application fee, a counselor recommendation, one teacher recommendation, and midyear grades from senior year; the office of admissions will ... The holding of the court It was found that no, Good Year Tire Rubber Company was not responsible for the other cost and losses of the Plaintiffs. Good Year was not obligated to pay the Plaintiffs since there was no agreement made for payment. The error that was found was bought to Good Year s attention but the attorneys failed to agree on the correct amount. What do you think? I think that Good Year Tires should pay the Plaintiffs the correct amount from the parentages the courts ordered them to pay. • 5. The Bean Trees Analysis Throughout The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver, Marietta Missy Greer goes through many changes. For example, she changes her name to Taylor, adopts a child, and experiences life changing events. When she left Pittman County, she probably did not expect to have a family that she avoided having in the beginning. Taylor left her home in Kentucky because she did not want to end up like all the other girls who did not finish school, got married early, and did not have much to look forward to in life. Taylor wanted a better life for herself so she left and made a new life in Tucson, Arizona. Some significant items that changed Taylor s life along the way were Lou Ann s ad in the newspaper, a photo of her with Estevan after Esperanza s suicide attempt, and Turtle s custody documents. These items are very meaningful because they play an important role in Taylor s new life Lou Ann s ad in the newspaper is sentimental to Taylor since they become great friends and family. When Taylor arrived in Tucson, she did not know anyone besides Mattie and felt lost. The difference between Kentucky and Arizona is clear when she says, In Tucson, it was clear that there was nobody overlooking us all. We would just have to find our own way (Kingsolver 63 64). In Pittman County, everyone knew each other and is a bit nosy, but in Tucson, no one talks to her or is interested in what she is here for. Of these, I have chosen to incorporate ideas from myself, McAdams, Freud, Jung, Adler, and Horney. I believe that there are seven personality types and each is displayed as a personification in a character from the Peanuts cartoons and comics. The personalities are Neuroticism, Openness to Experience and Imagination, Psychoticism, Passive Aggressive Dependency, Histrionicism, Introversion, and Extraversion. These personality types make up the world, and I believe that any single person can actually have several different personalities. It can be noted that three of the Big Five by McAdams are included in my breakdown of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Horney came up with a list of ten needs that Neurotic people have. These needs include The Neurotic need for affection and approval which Charlie Brown clearly shows in his worry about how others view him (Hall, Lindzey, Campbell, 1998) ; The Neurotic ambition for personal achievement which is displayed in his over analysis of everything to try and always improve himself for personal achievement(Hall, Lindzey, Campbell, 1998) ; And The Neurotic need for perfection and unassailability which is again shown in his worry over his inadequacies (Hall, Lindzey, Campbell, 1998) . These negative feelings and thoughts toward everyday life lead me to believe that Charlie Brown is a near perfect personification of neuroticism. Openness to Experience and Imagination In the Peanuts comic, Linus is known as Charlie Brown s best friend and he carries around a blanket most of the time. This security blanket helps Linus be open to experiences and imagination. McAdams describes openness to experience as a cluster of characteristics having to do with how reflective, imaginative, artistic, and refined a person is (McAdams, 2009). Linus is one of the most thoughtful, intelligent and inviting of the characters in Peanuts. He listens to others while thoughtfully thinking about what is said, and he keeps his mind wide open to the possibility that he will see things that others may not. For example, Linus is the only ... Whether it is a feeling of not being able to break free of an abusive loved one or being trapped by a bad storm, the natural animal instinct of survival is apparent. Celebration written by W.D. Valgardson studies that instinct and the helplessness of situations that drives us to it. Valgardson introduces various situations that require survival techniques in the story. Deviations out of the acceptable ranges of tolerance have unpleasant consequences. In such a way, drastic changes in the air humans breathe have calamitous effects of body. Respiration is the basis for gas exchange, as oxygen is inhaled and carbon dioxide is exhaled. The Dorsal Respiratory Group in the brainstem consists of inspiratory neurons, which in coordination with inspiratory neurons of the Ventral Respiratory Group, receive signals by the afferent pathway from mechanoreceptors and chemoreceptors and signal for inspiration. The phrenic motor neurons receive the efferent signal via the medulla oblongata to cause the diaphragm to contract down and external intercostal muscles to contract up and o, and the negative pressure causes air to enter lungs from the atmosphere. The oxygen diffuses into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide diffuses into lungs. Most oxygen molecules then bind to hemoglobin in red blood cells. The expiratory neurons of VRG send impulses to expiratory muscles of rectus abdominus and internal intercostals contract down while the diaphragm relaxes, and this causes air to leave the lugs and out the mouth or nostrils. The exhaled air contains about 5.6 percent CO2 (Dakota Gasification, n.d.). It focuses on the atypical development of childhood through to adult life. According to Sroufe and Rutter (1984) it focuses on individual patterns of adaptation and maladaptation throughout development. This approach is designed to prevent behavioural and emotional differences within development, whilst positively reinforcing the idea of typical development. Cases of atypical development can include ADHD, eating disorders, anxiety and many other developmental disorders that differ from the developmental population norm. According to Ciccheti (1984) developmental psychopathology must draw upon the results of many different areas of research: in particular, general developmental psychology, traditional academic psychology, and also the clinical sciences of psychiatry and clinical psychology (p.1) This implies that to find the link between typical and atypical behaviour, researchers must draw upon the social, biological and psychological aspects of a persons life. Cummings et al (2003) believed that developmental psychopathology is best defined by its primary goal; achieving a science that could unravel the dynamic process relations underlying pathways of normal development and the development of psychopathology (p.17) From this it is assumed that this approach aims to expand the knowledge of developmental disorders that affect the typical ... Safe Port Act Of 2006 SAFE Port Act of 2006 Terrorism has been one of the major concerns of the entire world; however, the incident of 9/11 entirely changed the perception of governments towards the issue of terrorism. In this regard, the United States of America has significantly improvised its approach towards dealing with terrorism. The approach of the U.S. is also justifiable as the United States is the only country that had to face the maximum ramifications caused by terrorism as thousands of people have lost their lives in multiple terrorist acts. Moreover, the U.S. has also tolerated the loss of billions of dollars in the shape of loss of capital, and investing in improved military and intelligence services. Despite of all these efforts, the U.S. has always felt the threat of terrorist activities; based on this fact, the government and legislature of the United States of America has enacted many acts of Congress to ensure the security of the residents, capital, and assets of the country. Out of various strategies to make United States a safer country, the Security and Accountability for Every (SAFE) Port Act in considered the most imperative yet debated topic among the politicians as well as the public of the U.S. Introduction of Safe Port Act of 2006 The basic purpose of the Act was to control all the ongoing activities of every single port of United States to ensure the safety of United States from the threats of terrorist activities. Some major causal variables that have been identified are categorised as neurological factors, toxic reactions, genetic linkages and environmental factors. However, most of the available evidence found, points to neurological factors, which are imbalances of neurotransmitters in the brain, and genetic variables as the primary causes of ADHD. The environmental factors and toxic reactions (such as lead exposure and food additives) are considered very minimal causes of ADHD. The search for causes of ADHD continues. There are many variables which are biological or thought to have an affect on biological functioning. Assessment of ADHD An evaluation of a child with ADHD includes multiple assessment techniques. The main goals of the assessment are: 1. to gather information about the developmental deviance of ADHD symptoms or other behavioural problems. 2. to rule out other psychiatric, learning or emotional problems that may be causing inattention, impulsivity, and/or overactivity. 3. to determine the degree of consistency between the sources and across situations with respect to reports of behaviours associated with ADHD. 4. to identify and prioritise targets for intervention. • 38. Importance Of Psalm 116 Psalm 116 is a great read for us as Christians and for us as moms. Psalms 116 speaks of the benefits and blessings of God s Word. But, in order to get the benefits and blessings of the Word we must first study, meditate, and walk out the passages. My greatest motivation for keeping God s Word close to my heart and my study game strong is my children. At some point our children will leave us, they will leave our homes and start their own, they will leave a piece of our family as they marry and begin their own. How refreshing is it to know that the wisdom and discretion they learn from God s Word is able to protect and guard them even when we can t be with them. Here s the question though, how will our children learn of God s Word? Let s dive in, start off by reading Psalm 116:9 16. 9.How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. 10. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 11. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you 12.Praise be to you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. 13. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. 14. I rejoice in following your statues as one rejoices in great riches. 15. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. 16. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word. 1. • 41. The Importance Of Government Censorship On Social Media In an age where more and more people are using social media for both personal and professional reasons, there is an increasing amount of government censorship, as well as self censorship, evident on widely used social media platforms. After conducting research on this topic, I have discovered the very fine line between using social networking sites for personal uses versus professional uses. According to scholars, while only 47% of nonacademics use social media for professional purposes, about 91% of university faculty members use social networking sites in class or for other professional reasons (Moran, Seaman, Tinti Kane, 2011). Professionals, particularly academic professionals, have to keep a squeaky clean presence on social media. In this paper, I will discuss my research regarding self censorship on social media, government intervention and censorship and what that means for the American principle of free speech, and tell some stories of individuals who have personal experiences with these problems. Freedom of speech is a basic right in America, granted to citizens by the Frist Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Many countries do not have laws protecting free speech, and in fact have censorship laws that do the exact opposite. Many Americans as well as other people around the world use social media as a means of expressing their own views and opinions on topics such as politics, world news, social justice issues, and simply to express themselves as ...
