College Is The Waste Of Time And Money
In College is the Waste of Time and Money , author Caroline Bird argues that college is not
better suited for those who are looking to be financially successful. This is based on the facts of a
low turnover ratio of students in colleges and universities and calculation that money spent on
college would have yield higher returns from other businesses such as new venture and start up
companies. Bird urges us not to spend time and money on colleges and universities. It is true that
colleges and universities have become highly profitable businesses and exorbitant fees have made
parents of a low income search for other opportunities for their children. However, the positive sides
of higher educationcannot be overlooked. The Collegeproduces highly skilled personnel in
engineering, chemistry, and other disciplines. In addition to the skills, social status, and reputation,
which are considered to be an intangible worth, are associated with college education. The higher
the education, the higher the prestige. Because knowledge and skills acquired through college
education removes the darkness of ignorance, college administrators need to exploit this potential
by making college an affordable place to get a practical education rather than making it a place to
earn financial revenues.
With the slogan, education for all , the United States aspired many parents and students to attend
colleges and universities in the 1950s. By 1970s, the number of college goers increased sharply and

what the concepts of national competitiveness and the diamond entail, which is naturally connected

2. Porter explicitly refuses to factor the role of the state in determining the role of competitiveness
of a nation. Porter sees the state as an influencer to the four primary determinants as depicted in
Porter s National Diamond.
Gershenkron Theory of late development makes for this lacuna in Porters diamond. The theory of
Late Development holds that latecomer nations adopt a different pathway to development distinct
from early industrialised nations. Indeed the state can act as a substitute to both demand conditions
and factor conditions.
Japan is a case in point. The government and the bank of Japan Instituted a convoy system where
banks were encouraged to finance large scale capital intensive industries. The banks taking risks to
further the cause of economic development would receive assistance and support if their
investments failed. This has led the Japanese firm to be long termist with a focus on R D.

The Core Principles of Nursing
Introduction: There are many different aspects to being a good nurse , but there are six core
principles of nursing which have emerged through progression of the nursing profession, (DoH
2012). The core principles were brought in as a result of issues raised within the National Health
Service (NHS) and have been identified as caring and compassion; dignity; communication;
professionalism; emotional intelligence and the nurse patient relationship. The three principles I
have chosen to analyse are communication, dignity and nurse patient relationship because it is my
belief that when a nurse lacks awareness of these, they will also lack the ability to be a successful
nurse. From my own research and experience, these three principles are... Show more content on

Maintaining dignity is not only meaningful in the first stages of caring for an individual, but
essential throughout a patient s care; by giving the element of control, it will help promote patient
independence. Promoting dignity can be achieved more easily if the patient and nurse establish a
good working nurse patient relationship, further enhanced by treating each individual equally,
regardless of protected characteristics, (e.g. age, culture, race, religion, etc.), to ensure everyone is
given the same level of care and importance. Zion (2011) said that consistency within the unit, by
the way the care staff approached patients right through to the way they communicated amongst
colleagues, gave him what he needed to go back into society and get back hold of his dignity.
Zion s perception supports the idea that nurses and care staff have a significant role in patient s
experiences. Although it s his personal opinion, he is speaking as the patient and talking about of
an experience which has directly affected him. He clearly states that due to the staff consistency
and communication, they gave him back his dignity that he perhaps lost on arrival to the hospital.
He tells us about how he was restrained onto a bed whilst being taken from the emergency room to
the unit, after suffering from mental illnesses, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Humans have Engangered the Columbia River Limpet
The Columbia River Limpet, otherwise known as the Short faced Lanx, is endangered due to
human causes. This species is endangered due to population fragmentation and isolation, dam
building, and many other human causes. In addition, habitat loss is one of the biggest problems
because this organism has such specific habitat requirements. This species lives in a freshwater
ecosystem and now, large populations can only be found in 4 streams. On the other hand, these
human induced problems can be remedied with a few restrictions, support, and a little effort. The
scientific name of this organism is Fisherola Nuttalli. The Columbia RiverLimpet is a small lunged
(pulmonate) snail. According to an article by Celeste Mazzacano at the Xerces Society for
Invertebrate Conservation (http://www.xerces.org/giant columbia river limpet/), It has a limpet
like appearance, with an uncoiled conical shell that has a wide base and a smooth, eccentric (off
center) apex. The shells may reach up to 8 mm long, 6.25 mm wide, and 3 mm high; they are
rich brown in color and appear striped due to fine concentric growth rings (Neitzel Frest 1992).
This organism is known as an invertebrate due to the lack of a backbone. Invertebrates lack a
vertebral column, which is made up of bones called vertebrae. The scientific name for animals
lacking a backbone is Invertebrata. On the other hand, animals with a backbone are known as
vertebrates, the scientific name being Vertebrata. There are over 1

Rejection In A Separate Peace
A Separate Peace is the heartbreaking story of two young boys at a boarding school, where they go
through a roller coaster of emotions and trauma. The title A Separate Peace shows the social
rejection felt by the primary character and his different defense mechanisms to try and bring him
peace. The main character, Gene undergoes a tremendous amount of stress throughout the story, and
uses multiple defense mechanism to cope with guilt. Denial. Repression. Intellectualization. All
different walls Gene uses to protect himself from the mental hazards he faced. Towards the
beginning of the story, Gene feels threatened by Finny, and believes Finny is trying to sabotage his

It is clear Gene is traumatized, a broken soul wandering endlessly through the Fields of
Asphodel. The entire story is varnish over what truly lies within the depths of Gene s id. Was
Finny was simply a manifestation of Gene s opposite personality? Did Gene truly had much
more troubling matters to deal with than a friend dying at a school? It is much more likely that
Gene suffered post traumatic stress disorder after World War II. As Gene states, The war was
and is reality for me, I still instinctively love and think in it s atmosphere. It is clear that Gene has
never moved on, and has regressed back to his teenage persona, to reshape his memories into less
despairing ones, than the ones that plague his subliminal and innermost thoughts. Leaving these
anguishes separate from his ego. Memories in which Gene is Judas who betrays Christ, instead of
potentially monstrous horrors suffered in the cruel and hellish trenches of the war. Denial.
Regression. Gene is a broken man, who is so consumed by the darkness of the cave, that he cannot
see the true light. Gene is a troubled and is in an extreme case of counterfactual thinking, in which
he tries to hide reality with an alternative that makes him feel better. The title A Separate Peace is

Research paper on stroke
Stroke 1
Stroke
Strokes have been around for thousands of years. Hippocrates recognized and described what we
now call strokes as the onset of sudden paralysis. In ancient times stroke was called apoplexy and
this term was applied to anyone who suddenly became struck down with paralysis. Physicians
during that time knew very little about stroke and the only thing that could be done for the
condition was to feed and care for the patient. The first person to investigate apoplexy was a
Swiss scientist named Johann Wepfer in 1620. Wepfer was the first to identify postmortem signs
of bleeding in the brain in patients that died of apoplexy. Not only did was he the first to identify
the blood in the brain of these postmortem apoplexy patients ... Show more content on

The two most at risk groups for stroke are those people with unhealthy lifestyles and the elderly.
Two thirds of all stroke victims are over the age of 65. Strokes can occur at anytime however.
Gender also plays a role in strokes. The stroke risk for men is 1.25 times higher than that of
women. Men do have a higher survival rate than women due to the life expectancy of men vs.
women. Women are generally older when they encounter a stroke (Harrar 132). Stroke also runs in
some families. Some members of a family might have a genetic predisposition for some of the risk
factors. Race is also important in determining those at risk. African Americans have almost double
the risk compared to Caucasians.
High blood pressure is one of the leading causes of stroke. As many as 50 million Americans have
high blood pressure and only 31 % know they have it. High blood pressure puts unnecessary strain
on blood vessel walls causing them to thicken and deteriorate. Smoking almost doubles your risk
of ischemic stroke and increases your risk of hemorrhagic stroke by 3.5 percent (AHA). High
alcohol content can lead to stroke.
Stroke 4
While studies show that a small amount of alcohol can lead to a reduced risk for stroke
meanwhile large amounts of alcohol can lead to blood viscosity and high platelet levels. Using
illegal drugs can also lead to stroke. For example cocaine can act on other

Tragic Events That Occur In Romeo And Juliet Essay
The tragic events that took place in Romeo and Juliet could be considered the result of Romeo s
poor decisions. Many tragic events take place over the course of the play Romeo and Juliet by
William Shakespeare. The events are the result of some poor decision making and acting on
impulses that ultimately brought grief upon both houses of Capulet and Montague. Romeo is the
character most to blame for the tragic events in Romeo and Juliet because he killed Tybalt, he
killed Paris, and he bought the poison and left his dagger; killing himself and Juliet. Romeo is the

The War Of Abraham Lincoln
The 1860 s was a time when the world was facing one of the bloodiest war in history. One of the
reasons for the war was the election of Abraham Lincoln. South Caroline issued the Declaration of
the Causes of Secession because they believed Lincoln was anti slaver (Bartels). However during
the most consequential period in American history, on November 1860 Abraham Lincolnwas elected
as the sixteenth president of the United Statesand the first Republican President. As the commander
in chief the union army, Lincoln needed to bring an end to the war and reunite the nation. On
November 19, 1863 Abraham Lincoln gave one of the most inspirational wartime speeches at the
Gettysburg National Cemetery. The Gettysburg Addressevoked a sense of unity into the American
citizens and human equality, which was greatly needed at that time. Lincoln s prerogative was to
acknowledge the values our founding fathers had, honor the human sacrifices and remind the
citizen of the optimistic purpose of war.
Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in humble surroundings, a one room log
cabin with dirt floors in Kentucky. Coming from a farmer family Lincoln had no access to a
formal education, so he self educated himself from the basics of English to the complicated
language of law. Eventually he became a self taught Illinois lawyer and a great speaker. Lincoln s
family didn t believe in the idea of slavery so he too grew up finding it frightful (History.com).

Tenochtitlan And Ix Summary
Tenochtitlan and Po. And Ix. Both took place in Mexico and both shared facts about Mexico
and the land in different ways. One mostly told a mythical story but talked about the landform as
the other talked about how people in Tenochtitlan and nonfictional facts about the land and city.
So both are not the same but they share some common interest. The Tenochtitlan story mainly
told about a city in Mexico and how they survived and lived. It describes how they developed on
the island and how the city first originated. Life over there was also involved with the Aztecs and
why they made the choice to move to a swampy land. Nowadays the city has been partly
destroyed due to the Spanish and Hernan Cortes which the ruins is today located near the center of

because of what they tell about, but they did have some similarities on the other hand. They both

Technology s Impact On Technology And The Impact Of...
The Impact of Technology
Computers, laptops, cellphones, and eventually artificial intelligence? Technology has sure been
advancing rapidly, and will continue to advance for years to come. Think about all of the tasks that
once required a trip to the library that can now easily be done with a computer. Google s search
engine, for instance, significantly simplifies research you simply enter what you want, and the
engine spews out the relevant information. But the harmful effects are plentiful as well. Nicholas
Carr addresses popular concerns in Is Google Making Us Stupid, arguing that technology is
molding the human brain into an efficiency prioritizing machine, one less flexible, less artistic than
the human mind. Although technology inspires artists and informs authors, it is mostly making
people stupid, for it encourages a skimming mentality and cultivates impatience.
Before revealing technology s harmful effects, it is important to address its benefits. Proponents of
technology argue of its importance in artistic inspiration. For instance, websites like Soundcloud,
Youtube, and deviantArt allow users to share accomplishments, and many young artists are guided
by the social media of successful artists. While it is true that the internet inspires artists, it is equally
true that it limits them creatively. Commercialism creeps throughout the internet community music,
art, and film must all be popular enough to make a profit. Many young minds are robbed of their

Carbon-14 Dating In Anthropology
Two skeletons were uncovered at Deerwood Park, August 21, 2017, early in the morning on a
marked trail. No IDs or identification were found on the pair when searched. The police have
asked us, forensic anthropologists Dr. Doe and Dr. Smith from Oklahoma University, to identify
one of these sets of remains. We were given the humerus, femur, cranium, mandible, and pelvis of
the body to measure and examine to determine sex, ethnic origin, age, and height. Our findings
have led to us believe the victim was male due to the sub pubic angle being 90 degrees, lying
distinctly in the male range of 90 degrees, and the pelvic cavity shape forming into a heart like
form and expressing the sacrum and coccyx which differs from a female which shows mainly...

This technique involves science and art as it guesses on how the soft tissues may have fitted on
the skull based on skull characteristics, sex, and race. The facial sculpting uses molding clay to
create a modal of what the victim may have looked like in life. However, if this fails we could
use carbon 14 dating. Carbon 14 dating deals with the radiocarbon found in the air we breathe
due to the above ground nuclear testing increase; teeth grown in intervals and absorb these
microscopic molecules. In adults they can help date time of birth within a 1.5 range which can
allow for investigators to search for hospitals that apply to the year of birth with the other
evidence such as race, sex, age, ect to help narrow the search. Additionally, another test we could
use called bone analysis. It is a basic test because, simply put, it is the observation of the bones.
Bone analysis permits the collecting of past injuries to the bone such as a broken femur or a
fracture to the occipital region of the skull that could be used to slim down the search among
missing persons. Thus, allowing investigators to exclude missing persons who do not have these
past injuries to the bone and focus on whose who s families have reported that they

Essay on John Hersey s Hiroshima
John Hersey s Hiroshima
In John Hersey s Hiroshima, he based his book upon the one perspective that, the bombing of
Hiroshima was an act of inhumanity. What Hersey failed to do was to give the perspective of
the Americans. Hersey did not account for the Pearl Harbor bombing of 1941 or the death march
in the Japanese Bataan Camps in 1942. Without giving both perspectives, Hersey does not give
the reader a fair chance to form their own opinion; instead, the reader is swayed into Hersey s bias
beliefs of the event. Hersey s Hiroshima was originally an article written for The New Yorker

One scientist from the Manhattan Project, the creators of the atomic bomb, in response to
Hersey s article in the New Yorker wrote, I am filled with such shame to recall the whoopee
spirit, at the announcement of bombing Hiroshima (The New Yorker). This type of reaction,
after reading Hersey s vivid work on the Hiroshima bombing, is understandable and expected.
What Hersey failed to do was to give the other perspective, of why America took these actions
against Hiroshima? The two major historic events that Hersey failed to mention were the
bombing of Pearl Harbor and the death march at the Bataan Camps. These two instances show
the attacks that Japan made against America. December 7, 1941, Japan performed a surprise
attack on America at Pearl Harbor. According to Japanese feudal code of honor, the idea of a
surprise is recommended and it raises no moral problems (Sulzberger 146). During Japan s attack,
they broke the seal of trust. Japan s Ambassador and Diplomatic agent were in Washington
pretending to have been seeking a negotiated settlement between the two countries (Sulzberger
146). America lost over 3,000 service men from this bombing. This type of betrayal could only
cause anger and determination to strike back. The death march at the Japanese Bataan Camp, of
April 1942, Japanese officers enslaved about 75,000 men, 12,000 of which were American soldiers
(Bergamini 1168). The soldiers were forced to march sixty miles with

David and Solomon: Kings of Legend Throughout the Old Testament, there are many examples of
great kings that can be found. However, two of the greatest and most blessed Kings were King
David and his son, King Solomon. Here, we will compare the lives and reigns of both kings by
reviewing their faith, their triumphs, and their downfalls.
King David was annointed by God at a young age, when he was still a shepherd boy tending to
his family s flocks. He was charged to go forth and kill the giant Goliath, despite the fact that he
was a boy that had never faced battle, and had no weapon aside from his slingshot and rocks.
Despite the seemingly insurmountable odds, David was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most notable example is his affair with Bathsheba, whom he saw bathing upon the rooftops
one night. David knew that Bathsheba was marrie to Uriah, one of his military leaders. But he
nevertheless sent for her and committed adultery with her, and from this sin a child was
conceived. At first, David tried to cover his indiscretion and bade Uriah to go to his wife in the
hopes that they would lie together and the baby might be passed off as Uriah s. However, when
Uriah refused to go to his wife, David had him killed, and took Bathsheba to be his own wife. As
a result of these sins, God was greatly displeased with David, and punished him with the death of
his first son. Like his father before him, King Solomon also had troubles with women; namely that
he married too many of them. Though God granted him with wisdom beyond all other men,
Solomon fell to the sins of the flesh. According to 1 Kings 11:1, he loved many strange women,
together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians,
and Hittites. These were women from tribes whom God had expressly forbidden the Israelites
from mixing with for the purposes that they were tribes who worshipped false gods and idols, and
would surely turn the Israelites away from their faith in the One True God. Samuel had seven

What Is The Middle Class Characters In The Pardoners Tale
Middle Class England
To be rich or to be poor that s the question of life. Their are some people that are poor. There are
some people that are very well of. Then there s that group of people that sits right in the middle
between poor and rich. This cluster of people is the group of white collar workers who make
enough money to live comfortably. This group is the middle class, and in the story the Pardoner s
Tale there is three characters that are deemed as middle class people. These three are Merchant,
the Oxford Cleric, and the Sergeant of Law. The author does a good job depicting the life of a
middle class person. He this does by showing the three main aspects that separates them. By
describing their degree of wealth, their level of education , and their political power.
The first middle class character we are introduced to is the merchant. The merchant was a
middle class man trying to live like he had lots of money. He spent money on clothes that he could
not afford. He also borrowed lots of money and spent the borrowed money on clothes. He was a
man of trade and was very good at his job. He did not need a high level of education for this job.
He was also not a man of high power in politics due to his problem with borrowing money. He
was looked down upon for this. Which is why he was thought less of by higher ranking people.
The second character we are introduced to is the oxford cleric. He was never worried about money
and how he looked .He was also addicted to

(1) The observation and description of the lymphoma named after Dennis Burkitt in 1964 was a
major breakthrough in virology and in cancer research. It led to the discovery that all humans
carry a DNA virus that can transform B lymphocytes, named after its discoverers Epstein Barr
Virus, (EBV) , this is virus which causes glandular fever; however, the virus carrying state is
mostly harmless. This is due to two main aspects of the complex host virus and host cell and virus
interactions. According to Epstein The gene expressions strategy of the virus adjusts it to various
cellular environments that together with our immune response establish a finely poised balance of
the virus carrying state, limiting the proliferation of the virally infected cells. Activation of the c
myc ontogeny by chromosomal translocation is the key event in this malignancy. Burkitt

Up Movie Analysis
In the Pixar film, Up, one of the main characters is the grandpa. His name is Mr. Fredricksen. He
is a stubborn old man and is even more stubborn/mean since his wife passed away. He decides to
live one of his life long dreams and ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the
South American wilderness. But Mr. Fredricksen s worse nightmare comes true. Another main
character, Russell, is aboard his house and is flying with him. Russell spends the rest of the
movie slowly getting to know Mr. Fredricksen peeling one layer of his stubbornness at a time.
He shows that older people may be mean/stubborn for a reason and not older adult is stubborn.
2.) a) This movie sets the younger people to believe that old men act mean and stubborn.

Due to the fact that he lost his wife, I would portray him to be down to earth and live for the

men and grumpy all the time. They portray Mr. Fredricksen has an unapproachable old man. b)
They make it seem that all old men are grumpy. Viewers may not want to approach older men or

Reflection In Art Writing
The key realisation recognised throughout my art practice this semester has been my investigation
of various binaries; including the study of public and private spheres, internal and external
thoughts, and individual works versus participatory projects. Further consideration of nostalgia,
poetry, and the idea of absence has also been prevalent within my current artwork. This semester I
ve also begun examining the connection my practice has to gesture and the body where my
handwriting is perceived as a physical extension of myself. My overall thinking and making
processes teeters back and forth between my fascination of the idiosyncratic lives of others and
using my practice as a cathartic process to healthily response to traumatic experiences. Although
initially regarded as a setback in my practice, the return to intimate, diaristic confessions
encapsulates the foundations of my practice which is examining my intense, instinctual desire to
communicate with the people around me. Thus far when making artwork this semester, my
internal struggle between experimenting with new concepts and wanting to use my practice to
heal has influenced the type of work that I ve made. How I ve incorporated both desires into my
practice is best shown in my works ephemera memorabilia, Untitled (participatory projections), and
apostle tender respectively. Ephemera memorabilia is a video of my hands turning the pages of
terrible confessional and pathetic conversation, a book of visual poetry and

Vera Wang Advert
The advertising campaign that I will be analysing is Princess by Vera Wang. The two platforms
this advert is promoted across is TV and print image. The main representations across both
platforms is: High anarchy Freedom Fun The TV advert begins by depicting jewellery and a
gold crown with gems. This gives connotations of wealth and luxury. Things you d expect when
you re in royalty, particularly a princess . A typical princess would be portrayed as elegant,
classy and stylish. A first thought would be a fairy tale typical princess but this advert shows a
more modern take on being a princess. Like Partying and take advantage of being rich. This is

Whereas in the second she is casually lying down in her messy bed and her legs are up in the
background and she s posing very innocently. Her facial expression in the first print advert is sort
of a smile however not completely she still has a look of determination and she connects with
the audience as there is direct mode of address. This could mean there is an element of mystery
as she has decided not to smile fully. Similarly, in the second picture she s looking at the camera
with her sharp eyes and this time her mouth is a bit open, forming almost a smile. Yet again
there is something which is keeping her from showing a full smile, this perhaps could be her
status showing she s a strong character and doesn t have to prove her emotions to everybody yet
at the same time she has to look inviting. Her costume in both pictures are very fantasy looking
(as if she just walked out of a fairy tale). It s very elegant and puffy, it looks expensive and this
would be expected if she is a princess. In both campaigns they also use massive crowns/tiara s this
grabs the audience s attention as it s very captivating and glamorous. There are two types of fonts
used in both campaigns, the Vera Wang part is in capitals and however the princess part looks like

The Media’s Negative Influence on Society
The Media s Negative Influence on Society There is a lot of controversy about how the media
affects people, but in my opinion I think the influence we get is more negative than positive. The
media is one of the things that impact people the most because in today s society it is impossible
to ignore. It influences the ways in which we dress, speak, act and think. Media is fed to us
through movies, television, radio, social media, music, and magazines. I believe mass mediais
pressuring the way womanand girls want to look, twists reality, and is sexist towards woman
without people even realizing. I think the most dominant affect the media has is on young women.

A teenager s main source of information about sex comes from what they pick up in the media.
In television shows, music videos and video games, dressing skimpy, hooking up, and casual sex
is totally normal. The problem is that there is rarely any mention of protection or STDs. This
makes people in real life forget about those things, which leads to unexpected pregnancies and
the spread of STDs. After the media demands you to be thin, it also wants you to be provocative
and sexual, which I think is completely unrealistic. The media expresses an image, behavior,
and lifestyle that are unrealistic for many people. ANAD says that the perfect body portrayed in

Pay It Forward Reflection
A young boy in social studies class is given an assignment, along with the rest of the students, to
come up with an idea that could change the world. As well as coming up with an idea, the
students also have to put it into action. Trevor McKinney (Haley Joel Osment) does not know
nor understand how a kid his age can change the world. When he is riding his bike home from
school, he passes up a site where a group of homeless people live, and the idea of how he can
change the world comes to him. He figures that if he helps one person, then that person can help
three, and so on. This begins his plan to Pay it Forward.
The movie Pay It Forward (based on a novel by Catherine Ryan Hide) is directed by Mimi Leder at
Warner Brothers Studio. It was released in the year 2000, being a PG 13 drama. Starring in this
movie is Kevin Spacey (Eugene Simonet), Helen Hunt (Arlene McKinney), Haley Joel Osment
(Trevor McKinney), Jon Bon Jovi (Arlene s husband), and Angie Dickinson (Arlene s mother).
The main idea of the movie is for a class of kids to come up with a way to change the world and
do it not just talk about it. The project does not go exactly as Trevor plans it, but it comes out
bigger than he could have imagined.

Essay On T. E. Lawrence The Battle Of Aqaba
T.E. Lawrence demonstrated his innovative leadership by subverting the Ottomans through
depleting the Turkish defenses at Aqaba, therefore bolstering the Allied Powers. Lawrence
condemned the continuing practice, used by both his British superiors and the Arabs, of attacking
the railroads leading to Medina. Specifically, with Medina heavily fortified, there was no purpose
for continually blockading and disrupting the Hejaz Railway. Instead, he suggested, [the Arabs]
needed to spread the Turks thin by expanding the warfront as much as possible (Anderson 306).
Furthermore, Lawrence expounded his incredible plan to cross the treacherous and barren Nefud
Desert and attack the Ottoman held Red Sea port of Aqaba. This port, and the surrounding outposts,

Lawrence recognized Auda s unique situation in that he held inland access to Aqaba. Moreover,
as the leader of the Toweihah tribesmen, the finest fighting force in Western Arabia, Auda
provided Lawrence with sufficient manpower to initiate a proper siege at Aqaba. Consequently,
Lawrence forged an alliance with Auda to plan for the Battle of Aqaba (Wilson 396 397).
Lawrence s partnership with Auda brought about a bloody attack at Aba el Lissan, where after a
squadron of Turks killed only a few Arabs, the Arabs responded by killing 300 men and captured
the remaining 300 as prisoners. Lawrence, who at the time was at Wejh, subsequently
interrogated six Syrian Arabs who offered detailed information on the garrison outpost at Ma an.
With only 330 troops, and a majority being Arba, Ma an, as well as the railroad leading to the

Noeleen Mcilvenna s A Very Mutinous People
History is comprised of actual accounts of things that happened, forces that have shaped us, and
lessons that we gain. As stated in the introduction, Wee will have noe Lords, noe Landgraves noe
Cassiques we renounce them all. With these words, the earliest settlers of North Carolina declared
their complete rejection of any social hierarchy in their colony . In Noeleen McIlvenna s book, A
Very Mutinous People, McIlvenna discussed why North Carolinadoing their own thing made North

North Carolina s story fits none of the familiar models of colonial American history (14).

I think that McIlvenna captured a lot for having had to draw many conclusions based on her
knowledge of the subject matter, like many historians must do when there is a lack of primary
documents. The usage of maps, as on pages 16 and 96, helps with the visualization aspect. For
weaknesses, because it is an already thin book, I thought that the author spent a lot of time
repeating herself. We also get a lot of quotes from letters back and forth, but it would have been
nice for something more than that. McIlvenna also overstates the case that most of the people in
the Albemarle area were trying to set up a democratic, egalitarian world. Just because they wanted
to be free from the sheriffs, tax collectors, etc., does not mean that they were after some idealistic
society of equals. To put the time period that she discusses in context, McIlvenna should have
included comparisons in her book with other NC rebellions in the colonial period. Even though
McIlvenna does not do much to tease out stories, personalities, drama, action, etc., it would be a
great read for anyone interested in learning about early colonial freedom movements as it is very
informative. This book is almost an institutional type history of how North Carolina was arranged,

The Ideologies Put Forth By Paulo Freire
The ideologies put forth by Paulo Freire including liberation education, pedagogy of the oppressed,
inequality and pedagogy of possibility gives educators hope. These are the educators who are
dedicated to bring about positive change in education and by extension society. Freire s contribution
to educationthrough his research and theories resonates with Trinbagonian educators as it
encompasses issues of slavery, colonialism, post colonialism social mobility and democracy.
Furthermore, Freire s ontology is grounded in comprehensive philosophical underpinnings
including that of John Dewey and Jean Piaget. Their contributions have shaped education
internationally as well as locally. Thus, the authors critique of Freire s work in an attempt to
restructure his theories is a worthwhile analysis and allows for self reflection, critical thinking and
the assurance of hope, in that, if education does nothing else, it must inspire hope in reference to
the school of pragmatism. Such an educational philosophy in the words to Giroux (2007), points to
a future in which democratic practices create the conditions for each generation of youth to struggle
anew to sustain the promise of a democracy that has no end point, but that must be continuously
expanded into a world of new possibilities and opportunities for keeping justice and hope alive.

The Fashion Design Of Chanel
It has been over a century since Mademoiselle Chanel, determined to reform the concept of
femininity as much in style as in the essence, commissioned the chemist Ernest Beaux to develop
what will become the symbol of international perfumery. Chanel No. 5 is unquestionably the most
legendary ever made fragrance, described as an opera of olfactory art. Independent, unconventional,
and provocative, CocoChaneltransformed her unfamiliar name into an obligatory reference point
for fashion design of the twentieth. As an icon of female strength, she translates the complexity and
elegance that characterize the woman, with the creation of what would become the scent par
excellence. Her way of conceiving the perfumeis peculiar. When asked where to put the perfume
she replies: A woman should wear a fragrance wherever she expects to be kissed ( A Woman ). Coco
also launches what turned out, according to the instructions of the designer, had to embody a
concept of femininity timeless, unique, and fascinating. The avant garde idea of Chanel breaks
every scheme imagining her fragrance for a modern and independent woman, far from the
stereotype that envisages she should perfume of roses. Hence, Chanel No. 5 is the first perfume that
rejects the convention and symbolizes the technological and cultural innovation, furthering the
women s empowerment.

Surface Breakdown
Dirt, sand and grit are the primary enemies of hardwood floors. These common household
ingredients especially if you have kids around, act as deadly sandpaper on the finish of your floors.
Sweeping, vacuuming and dust mopping are essential to maintaining your floors and to keep them
looking like new and in great shape. Brooms with ends that have frayed tips are the best for
picking up bits of sand and dirt on the floor. Dust mopping is effective as well. If you use a spray
on the mop head, it is advisable to spray the mop head the night before for added effectiveness.
Types of WoodFloor Finishes
There are two types of finishes: surface finishes and penetrating seals. Determining the type of seal
will help you determine how to maintain your floors. Surface finishes include polyurethane (the
most common), water based polyurethane (second most common), pre finished floors, and
catalyzed. Penetrating seals includes oil finishes, acrylics and waxes. Surface finishes are usually
shiny finishes and penetrating seals are generally satin or matte. ... Show more content on

The Process for Wood Floor Stain Removal
General staining can be repaired by using the following procedure:
1. Sand the stained area one to two layers of finish off of the board. It would be better to sand the
entire board for a better finish.
2. Remove the dust from the area to keep it from mixing into the refinishing process.
3. Lightly reapply the same finish twice. Do not over apply or you will build up more than you
have removed.
4. If this does not take care of the stain, the entire board will need to be refinished or replaced.

The Impact Of Advancements Of Robotic Technology Essay
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of the advancements of robotic
technology in libraries. It provides a literature based background on the general state of robotics
and adds insights related to the library setting. Additionally, it looks into the factors that libraries
need to consider when planning to acquire robots, including finances, staff and technical
knowledge, space and charging facilities. Finally, it provides a quick look at how this technology
will affect both the libraries and communities. I. Introduction The concept of robots has been with
humans for a long time. From the robot knight plan of Leonardo da Vinci to the automatons of
Jacques de Vaucanson, to the robots created by several robotics companies, people have
demonstrated a fascination. The word robot came from the Czech word, robota which means
forced labor . In 1921, writer Karel Capek used it in his play entitled Rossum s Universal Robots
(R.U.R.). The credit for coming up with such term, however, goes to Josef Capek, his brother.
Presently, robot means a machine that performs complex actions, similar to humans or other
animals; also a machine that can perform repetitive tasks, guided by automatic controls. (Shulman
Buckley, 2014). Advances in technology have allowed the world to move forward in the creation of
these machines for various purposes. Libraries, being both learning and cultural hubs of societies,
have unique opportunities to introduce the idea of robots.

Data: The information provided for this research project came from the General Social Survey,
(GSS). Using IBM s SPSS predictive analytics software I analyzed the data to determine the
significance of these factors. The alcohol variable I used accounted for the number of alcoholic
beverages in a given year (GSS variable DRINKYR ). The other variable tested for significance
was marital status (GSS variable MARITAL ). This method of sampling is considered random
probabilistic sampling, as we should be able to draw a conclusion with our results about the
general population using entirely quantitative data. In examining the data I will be searching for
causality to determine the significance of these factors and whether or not they correlate with over
overall quality of mental health. Focal Relationship: I believe that income will have the highest
significance between the three of these factors, that s why I ve chosen income and mental health
as the focal relationship. Two variables are needed to determine whether or not causality exists
between mental health and income. The dependent variable will be identified as an individual s
amount of poor mental health days in the last 30 days (GSS variable mntlhlth ). This data will be

One of the ways to do as such is incorporating the renewable natural resources of energy in the

The Safety Techniques And Management Strategies Essay
In today s world, coal is the most commonly used fossil fuel. The coal present in the Pike River
Coal Mine had some distinctive qualities. It was bright, lustrous coking coal with several
properties that was sought after by the international steel makers. They used coke as a source of
fuel for blasting furnaces and carbon was used to bind with iron to produce steel. Therefore, Pike
coals unique property of producing low ash and high fluidity made it potentially valuable resource.
Underground mining is very hazardous due to some reasons like lack of fresh air, poor ventilation,
poor lighting and high level of poisonous gas. Thus, several safety precautions should be taken for
the well being of the miners. Due to lack of these safety precautions and poor management
strategies, on 19th November 2010 an explosion at Pike River Coal Mine left 29 miners dead. This
report will further discuss on the safety techniques and management strategies taken by the three
protagonists of Pike River Coal Mine the managers, the state and the workers.

Outsourcing is one of the important management strategy that provides wider access to world class

factors: production factors and capacity based factors. Production factors are mostly related to the
strategic level of outsourcing whereas capacity based factors related to the tactical level. The Pike

Desai very carefully handles the themes of racial discrimination, migration ,political turmoil and
class discrimination. The novel provides us with some of the historical facts and the beautiful
imagery which makes us familiar with the geographical details of Nepal. We can easily draw
similarities between the novel and a movie. Just like a movie the novel deals with many characters
and there is a change in scenes within a chapter. It keeps moving back and forth in time which
makes it more interesting. The narrative techniques used by the author enhances the whole reading
experience. The novel traces the development of the characters and ends the story in positive

Landscape Edging Essay
Landscape edging adds to the curb appeal of a home, yet it does much more than this. It helps to
differentiate various parts of the yard, ensure grass does not encroach on a garden and eliminates
the need to trim the edges of the landscape. To obtain the most from this decorative item, however,
homeowners need to various options available to them.
Lawn and garden edging comes in many sizes, shapes and sizes. Each type has its advantages and
disadvantages that must be weighed before purchase. Furthermore, cost and ease of use varies
significantly when it comes to these items, and homeowners need to factor this into the decision
making process.
Following are some types of borders that a homeowner may wish to make use of. Regardless of

of the wheel into the ground and make certain it is secured. Do this around the desired area and
obtain more wheels, if needed. This is definitely a unique idea that will give the yard a distinctive
look and one that homeowners may soon find copied by others.
в¦ЃWine Bottles Wine bottles seem to collect over time. Although they can be recycled, why not
use them for a different purpose? Turn the wine bottles upside down and use them for landscape
edging. Depending on one s wine preferences, different colored bottles may be used or they may
all be of the same color. Regardless of which route a person chooses to go, they are not only

What Are Franklin Roosevelt s Three Programs
I think the top three programs that Franklin Roosevelt created as a part of the New Deal are the
FDIC, the WPA, and the NYA because keeping people s money safe and creating and appointing
jobs is an efficient way to keep your country safe from failure.
After the stock market crashed in 1929, Americans began to scramble to the banks to withdraw their
money. As a result, thousands of financial institutions failed. This became known as the Great
Depression. In 1933, President Roosevelt created the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which
would insure deposits to a certain limit with money pooled by other banks. This not only meant that
people s money was safe, but it boosted the confidence of the citizens. Taking action against the
bank failures

Online Gambling Act Research Paper
Republicans in September of 2006 attached the UIGEA to the SAFE Port Act, a very popular bill
designed to protect American ports from terrorism. By doing this, Republicans passed the bill
without most Democrats even being able to read it. It was likely believed that without it being
attached to another bill, it would not have passed, as many similar bills had been turned down. It
was subsequently signed into law by President Bush on October 13. The formulation of the policy
was not to criminalize individual Americans who were gambling. Instead, the act makes it illegal
for banks and financial institutions to process transactions for Internet gambling websites. (Rainey,
150) Therefore, instead of turning more Americans into criminals, the act simply cut off the money
flow going into the foreign online casinos. The act basically defined illegal internet gambling as
gambling that states had already made illegal under their own laws. This meant that all 50 states
likely had different rules and regulations by which this bill must be interpreted. It also meant that 2
states, Utah and Hawaii, did not allow any form of gambling at all. For most states, the ability for
an institution to sell gambling means obtaining a license. In the case of these foreign companies
running online casinos that was all but impossible. Along with trying to block the transactions of
internet gambling, the act also made it a felony to knowingly accept money for the... Show more

A Cry Of Players By William Gibson
A Cry of Players is written by William Gibson. The first production of the play took place on July
24, 1968 at the Berkshire Theatre Festival in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The Repertory Theatre
of the Lincoln Center then presented the production on November 14, 1968 in New York City.
Both productions were directed by Gene Frankel. The songs and incidental music for A Cry of
Players written by Peaslee was written for piano and voice, but written instructions on the first
page explain that the piano part is for rehearsals and also to give the guitarist an idea of the
character of the setting. Also the first song Player Entrance Theme can be played by Trumpet,
Piccolo, or both plus accompaniment of percussion and a bassinstrument if available. The first
theme can also be used as exit music at the end of the play for the players. The score includes the
following pieces: Player s Entrance Theme, IF I had been Hanged, Ney Nonny No, And Wilt
Thou Leave Me Thus, Twas I That Paid For all Things, and The Squire is Dire. The original music
was composed by Peaslee for the Lincoln Center production of the play. Dramatic Play Service, Inc
sold a five song set for the play for thirteen dollars plus a ten dollar music royalty fee.
A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare was first performed at the Stratford upon
Avon Memorial Theatreby the Royal Shakespeare Company. It was directed by Peter Brook with
music by Peaslee, the actors, and Mendelssohn. The first performance was

Health Education Philosophy
To sell oneself as a health educator, I must become the solution. Individuals believe that we can
prepare and overcome obstacles in the health profession. Allowing others to know I am a health
educator I must sell myself as one who not only knows the knowledge, but am able to present it and
teach it to others.
Second, I must be specific in what I articulate. Having the knowledge to explain my actions or the
ideals related to the course is good, but being able to give examples is even better. Show promise
by letting others know how teamwork is important to overall fitness, and then give an example like
how your team came together to win a state championship or something.
Step three in selling oneself as a health educator, be positive. Health class/P.E. class is the highlight
of most kid s days. By creating a positive and happy atmosphere, students will be able to enjoy the
time they have in the classroom, and they might consider you their favorite teacher. ... Show more

Being cocky is one thing, having confidence is another. Respecting the class, supporting students,
creating positive vibes, and being able to teach the importance of health in a safe and fun
environment is important to show that you aren t there for the money, but are there to teach health.
These are some, if not, the most important aspects in which one, or I, should sell myself to become
a health educator; knowing the information, creating positive vibes, unity and being the

The New Concept Of The Internet Of Things ( Iot ) And Iot...
Introduction
Computer viruses and other malicious software have caused major issues for individuals and
organizations. Computer hackers have become so ingenious at spreading viruses and destructive
malware that they can track almost all activity the computer via the internet. Therefore, computer or
intrusion detection software and tools are required to prevent computer criminals from spreading
viruses that intrude and wreak havoc on our personal computers and our professional industries
and organizations. This paper will evaluate some of the tools that have been created to detect
computer viruses. This paper will provide an analysis and summary of some of these tools and their
effectiveness of the design. Individuals and organizations both have the opportunity to use Cloud
Computing. And, for this reason, this paper will briefly review the new concept of the Internet of
Things (IoT) and IoT Security.
Computer Virus Detection Tools (Muhanty Rao, (2008)) Describe the act of computer intrusion as
any unauthorized attempt to access or damage or malicious use of information resources (Muhanty
Rao, (2008)). According to (Muhanty Rao, (2008)), Intrusion detection deals with fast detection of
unwanted violations in system s normal behavior due to illegal actions (attacks) carried out by
malicious users (Muhanty Rao, (2008)). Individuals and organizations who use computers and the
internet will need to have protection to keep their personal computers,

Personal Sports Psychology Study
The sports psychology concepts taught throughout this semester gave me a better understanding of
why individuals act the way they do in certain situations. Now that I have been introduced to the
realm of sports psychology, I understand the reasoning for personal sports behavior. During this
semester, this class has analyzed peer reviewed studies, thus allowing individuals, including myself,
to critically discuss major sport psychologyconcepts. Three concepts discussed throughout this
semester reviewed the concepts of group and team dynamics, the self confidence level in sports,
and the response to injury. After reviewing the topics stated above, I can anticipate and assist future
behaviors of others which will assist clinical care in my future... Show more content on

When an injury happens, athletes go through a coping phase called the grief response. It has five
stages denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance (Weinberg Gould, 2014, p.464). As an
athletic trainer, our profession allows clinicians to witness the injury in real time, then assist in the
return to play progression. This unique opportunity allows athletic trainers to observe a wide
variety of injuries, ranging from abrasions and lacerations to career ending injuries. During each
injury reported, the athletic trainer helps each athlete with the grief response phase. However, if an
athlete is fixed in one of the stages of the grief model, they may display signs such as anger,
obsession and mood swings. As an allied health care provider, these signs and symptoms would
demonstrate means for a referral to a sports psychologist. These athlete may not only harm
themselves, but they can begin to affect other athletes and personnel around them. Therefore, being
aware of the underlying mental issues that can affect an individual through the rehabilitation
process will require a support system that can help them cope with their lost

Analysis Of On The Road By Langston Hughes
Walker insists that there is representation to white people when the narrator of the story On the
Road by Langston Hughes speaks of the church and the snow. Walker does include some nice
points, points that one could easily see. Some of her points and observations though, I feel are a
bit of a long shot. I have the same feelings towards Walker s comparison of On the Road and the
story of Samson. Walker s first theory is that the snow is a symbol of the white oppressive world
that is making sergeant so miserable and that he is trying so hard to ignore. Right off the bat I
have to disagree with Walker. I do not believe that Sergeant is trying to ignore the snow. I think
he honestly just doesn t notice it. He notice s white oppression. He even acknowledges it when
he is shot down by Reverend Mr. Dorset and thinks They drew the color line anyhow, referring to
the shelters and again when he says I know it s a white folks church. The snow is different. He
has too much going on to be concerned with the snow. He is too hungry, sleepy, and cold to even
notice the snow. It s like taking a day trip out in the hot sun. It s easy to feel pain in one s feet and
not realize the sun burning his or her skin. It is still weather affecting someone, but because there
are other issues, it goes unnoticed. The snow does play an important role in the view of the church.
The church is pale in the snow. The church is blurry and distorted white because of the falling
snow. This is the

What Is Porter s Five Forces Of Intel
Porter s Five Forces Analysis Using Five Forces analysis brings the purpose to analyze the industry
in order to determine the level of intensity regarding the competition and attractiveness of the
industry (Porter, 1979). The attractiveness of an industry is measured in terms of profit; more
profitability means a more attractive industry and otherwise. According to Porter (1979), the nature
of competitiveness in a given industry can be figured as a composite of the following five forces:
rivalry among competitive firms, potential entry of new competitors, threats of substitute products,
bargaining power of suppliers, and bargaining power of consumers. Intel s porter five forces analysis
conducted to look for the influences of competitive environment within the PC components
industry. The collective strength of these forces... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Buyers of Intel Corp s products include computer and mobile phones manufacturing companies
such as HP, Dell, Samsung, Acers, and Nokia among others. The buyers include end user home
computer builders and small PC Clone shops that build customized machines in most cities.
Buyer power in this industry has fluctuated from time to time, but for the most part, the Intel
Inside logo has been considered by most manufacturers to be too important to forgo. The
diversity of its buyers is advantageous to Intel Corp because it makes it hard for them to set or
demand for their own prices. Consumers had no bargaining power in the past when Intel was the
only producer of microprocessors but with the increase in competition has given consumers a
choice and a more competitive price. However, several of these companies such as Samsung and
Toshiba are now making their own processors and can therefore demand for lower prices and set
the terms of business for Intel Corp. This is because they have several suppliers for the same
products Intel Corp is

the accounting department for the better (Shanker). Today, IT is already present and is used
widely in the business field, specifically in accounting offices (Shanker, 2006). The following are
the positive effects of IT in the Accounting Work: Speed is the most important characteristic of
IT. The use of various technologies results to faster and more accurate performances.
Technologies are mainly composed of hardware and software and these two must be always
compatible for the accountant s specific works in order to deliver the best performance. In order
for technologies to be more effective as far as speed is concerned, the system of accounting should

  • 2. College Is The Waste Of Time And Money In College is the Waste of Time and Money , author Caroline Bird argues that college is not better suited for those who are looking to be financially successful. This is based on the facts of a low turnover ratio of students in colleges and universities and calculation that money spent on college would have yield higher returns from other businesses such as new venture and start up companies. Bird urges us not to spend time and money on colleges and universities. It is true that colleges and universities have become highly profitable businesses and exorbitant fees have made parents of a low income search for other opportunities for their children. However, the positive sides of higher educationcannot be overlooked. The Collegeproduces highly skilled personnel in engineering, chemistry, and other disciplines. In addition to the skills, social status, and reputation, which are considered to be an intangible worth, are associated with college education. The higher the education, the higher the prestige. Because knowledge and skills acquired through college education removes the darkness of ignorance, college administrators need to exploit this potential by making college an affordable place to get a practical education rather than making it a place to earn financial revenues. With the slogan, education for all , the United States aspired many parents and students to attend colleges and universities in the 1950s. The theory of Late Development holds that latecomer nations adopt a different pathway to development distinct from early industrialised nations. Indeed the state can act as a substitute to both demand conditions and factor conditions. Japan is a case in point. The government and the bank of Japan Instituted a convoy system where banks were encouraged to finance large scale capital intensive industries. The Core Principles of Nursing Introduction: There are many different aspects to being a good nurse , but there are six core principles of nursing which have emerged through progression of the nursing profession, (DoH 2012). The core principles were brought in as a result of issues raised within the National Health Service (NHS) and have been identified as caring and compassion; dignity; communication; professionalism; emotional intelligence and the nurse patient relationship. The three principles I have chosen to analyse are communication, dignity and nurse patient relationship because it is my belief that when a nurse lacks awareness of these, they will also lack the ability to be a successful nurse. Maintaining dignity is not only meaningful in the first stages of caring for an individual, but essential throughout a patient s care; by giving the element of control, it will help promote patient independence. Promoting dignity can be achieved more easily if the patient and nurse establish a good working nurse patient relationship, further enhanced by treating each individual equally, regardless of protected characteristics, (e.g. age, culture, race, religion, etc.), to ensure everyone is given the same level of care and importance. Zion (2011) said that consistency within the unit, by the way the care staff approached patients right through to the way they communicated amongst colleagues, gave him what he needed to go back into society and get back hold of his dignity. Zion s perception supports the idea that nurses and care staff have a significant role in patient s experiences. Although it s his personal opinion, he is speaking as the patient and talking about of an experience which has directly affected him. He clearly states that due to the staff consistency and communication, they gave him back his dignity that he perhaps lost on arrival to the hospital. This species is endangered due to population fragmentation and isolation, dam building, and many other human causes. In addition, habitat loss is one of the biggest problems because this organism has such specific habitat requirements. This species lives in a freshwater ecosystem and now, large populations can only be found in 4 streams. On the other hand, these human induced problems can be remedied with a few restrictions, support, and a little effort. The scientific name of this organism is Fisherola Nuttalli. The Columbia RiverLimpet is a small lunged (pulmonate) snail. According to an article by Celeste Mazzacano at the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation (http://www.xerces.org/giant columbia river limpet/), It has a limpet like appearance, with an uncoiled conical shell that has a wide base and a smooth, eccentric (off center) apex. The shells may reach up to 8 mm long, 6.25 mm wide, and 3 mm high; they are rich brown in color and appear striped due to fine concentric growth rings (Neitzel Frest 1992). This organism is known as an invertebrate due to the lack of a backbone. Invertebrates lack a vertebral column, which is made up of bones called vertebrae. However during the most consequential period in American history, on November 1860 Abraham Lincolnwas elected as the sixteenth president of the United Statesand the first Republican President. As the commander in chief the union army, Lincoln needed to bring an end to the war and reunite the nation. On November 19, 1863 Abraham Lincoln gave one of the most inspirational wartime speeches at the Gettysburg National Cemetery. The Gettysburg Addressevoked a sense of unity into the American citizens and human equality, which was greatly needed at that time. Lincoln s prerogative was to acknowledge the values our founding fathers had, honor the human sacrifices and remind the citizen of the optimistic purpose of war. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in humble surroundings, a one room log cabin with dirt floors in Kentucky. Coming from a farmer family Lincoln had no access to a formal education, so he self educated himself from the basics of English to the complicated language of law. What Hersey failed to do was to give the other perspective, of why America took these actions against Hiroshima? The two major historic events that Hersey failed to mention were the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the death march at the Bataan Camps. These two instances show the attacks that Japan made against America. December 7, 1941, Japan performed a surprise attack on America at Pearl Harbor. According to Japanese feudal code of honor, the idea of a surprise is recommended and it raises no moral problems (Sulzberger 146). During Japan s attack, they broke the seal of trust. Reflection In Art Writing The key realisation recognised throughout my art practice this semester has been my investigation of various binaries; including the study of public and private spheres, internal and external thoughts, and individual works versus participatory projects. Further consideration of nostalgia, poetry, and the idea of absence has also been prevalent within my current artwork. This semester I ve also begun examining the connection my practice has to gesture and the body where my handwriting is perceived as a physical extension of myself. My overall thinking and making processes teeters back and forth between my fascination of the idiosyncratic lives of others and using my practice as a cathartic process to healthily response to traumatic experiences. The Media’s Negative Influence on Society The Media s Negative Influence on Society There is a lot of controversy about how the media affects people, but in my opinion I think the influence we get is more negative than positive. Lawrence demonstrated his innovative leadership by subverting the Ottomans through depleting the Turkish defenses at Aqaba, therefore bolstering the Allied Powers. Lawrence condemned the continuing practice, used by both his British superiors and the Arabs, of attacking the railroads leading to Medina. Specifically, with Medina heavily fortified, there was no purpose for continually blockading and disrupting the Hejaz Railway. Instead, he suggested, [the Arabs] needed to spread the Turks thin by expanding the warfront as much as possible (Anderson 306). It provides a literature based background on the general state of robotics and adds insights related to the library setting. Additionally, it looks into the factors that libraries need to consider when planning to acquire robots, including finances, staff and technical knowledge, space and charging facilities. Finally, it provides a quick look at how this technology will affect both the libraries and communities. I. Introduction The concept of robots has been with humans for a long time. From the robot knight plan of Leonardo da Vinci to the automatons of Jacques de Vaucanson, to the robots created by several robotics companies, people have demonstrated a fascination. The word robot came from the Czech word, robota which means forced labor . In 1921, writer Karel Capek used it in his play entitled Rossum s Universal Robots (R.U.R.). The credit for coming up with such term, however, goes to Josef Capek, his brother. Presently, robot means a machine that performs complex actions, similar to humans or other animals; also a machine that can perform repetitive tasks, guided by automatic controls. (Shulman Buckley, 2014). Advances in technology have allowed the world to move forward in the creation of these machines for various purposes. It was subsequently signed into law by President Bush on October 13. The formulation of the policy was not to criminalize individual Americans who were gambling. Instead, the act makes it illegal for banks and financial institutions to process transactions for Internet gambling websites. (Rainey, 150) Therefore, instead of turning more Americans into criminals, the act simply cut off the money flow going into the foreign online casinos. The act basically defined illegal internet gambling as gambling that states had already made illegal under their own laws. This meant that all 50 states likely had different rules and regulations by which this bill must be interpreted. It also meant that 2 states, Utah and Hawaii, did not allow any form of gambling at all. For most states, the ability for an institution to sell gambling means obtaining a license. In the case of these foreign companies running online casinos that was all but impossible. Allowing others to know I am a health educator I must sell myself as one who not only knows the knowledge, but am able to present it and teach it to others. Second, I must be specific in what I articulate. Having the knowledge to explain my actions or the ideals related to the course is good, but being able to give examples is even better. • 48. Analysis Of On The Road By Langston Hughes Walker insists that there is representation to white people when the narrator of the story On the Road by Langston Hughes speaks of the church and the snow. Walker does include some nice points, points that one could easily see. Some of her points and observations though, I feel are a bit of a long shot. I have the same feelings towards Walker s comparison of On the Road and the story of Samson. Walker s first theory is that the snow is a symbol of the white oppressive world that is making sergeant so miserable and that he is trying so hard to ignore. Right off the bat I have to disagree with Walker. I do not believe that Sergeant is trying to ignore the snow. I think he honestly just doesn t notice it. He notice s white oppression. He even acknowledges it when he is shot down by Reverend Mr. Dorset and thinks They drew the color line anyhow, referring to the shelters and again when he says I know it s a white folks church. The snow is different. He has too much going on to be concerned with the snow. He is too hungry, sleepy, and cold to even notice the snow. It s like taking a day trip out in the hot sun. It s easy to feel pain in one s feet and not realize the sun burning his or her skin. It is still weather affecting someone, but because there are other issues, it goes unnoticed. The snow does play an important role in the view of the church. The church is pale in the snow. The church is blurry and distorted white because of the falling snow. This is the ...
