Digital Classroom Plan Analysis
The Volusia County School District adopted in December 2015, it s Digital Classroom Plan. This plan
was created to support the instructional shifts required by Florida Standards through the use of digital
tools and technologies. The plan also supports the Digital Learning Now Act (July 1, 2011), which
requires school districts to offer virtual instruction and requires online learning as a requirement for
high school graduation. The plan also included professional development and curriculum resources for
teachers for digital instructional materials aligned to Florida Standards, online assessments and other
technology tools (Volusia County Schools, 2015).
Currently the district has the Virtual Online, a charter school, which uses Moodle ... Show more

To help with the implementation of training, two new positions will be created at the district level:
Lead Facilitator of DCP and Digital Resource Teacher on Assignment. The Lead Facilitator position s
salary would be $69,000 for 12 month position and the TOA salary would be $39,000 for 10 month
position. These positions would oversee training during professional development and troubleshooting
issues with Canvas and other digital tools being used by the district. These costs would be similar to
the current cost already being spent on Sharepointe and Moodle, which will be eliminated after
Canvas has been purchased. The two new positions are being paid through a grant through the State of
Florida for implementing a Digital Classroom Plan and would not be added to the district s current
budget. The overall management of the plan would be overseen and tracked by the Director of
Technology Services.
This project is a real life scenario, and is being considered by Volusia County School District.
Currently, the district is using the free access to look at the features of Canvas. Extant data was used
from the Digital Learning Plan to create this proposal. Canvas will eliminate the problem of training
for multiple software and allow accessibility through mobile devices. The cost figures are based on

The Infamous Reputation of Drones
For many people, just the word drone sends a chill down their spine. The infamous reputation of these
unmanned flying objects comes from their heavy use in war zones where they are meant to track and
kill. The purpose of these drones is to complete a mission without risking the lives of soldiers.
Contrary to popular belief, most drones are used for purposes other than warfare. The public rarely
hears about the positive side of drones and thus their opinion on drones is simply biased because they
do not realize that there is another, much larger side to drones that is peaceful. Most drones are used
for surveillance along borders or simply for fun. The use of drones for recreation seems to slowly be
catching on and will offer amazing possibilities. Even though many people do not recognize the
positive side of drones, they have the power to revolutionize the way we see and understand the world,
protect the lives of the soldiers and allow for amazing private experiences through their wide range of
uses. Drones have long proven their superiority in warfare. They are capable to follow their target
without being noticed and can strike whenever needed without have a solder on the ground. It is not
even necessary for the drone pilot to be in the same country as the drone. A drone can fly in
Afghanistan but the pilot is safe in his own home country. The drone technology therefore saves the
lives of many soldiers who would otherwise be in harms way. Drones can prevent ambushes,

Is Ritalin Good Essay
Is Ritalin Good?
Have you ever suffered or known anyone that has suffered from attention deficit disorder? A.D.D. is a
biologically based condition causing a persistent pattern of difficulties, which includes three types of
behavior. These three types are difficulty attending or focusing on a specific task, difficulty inhibiting
behavior, and difficulty controlling impulses. In 1950 the prescription drug Ritalin was patented and
manufactured by the CIBA Geigy Corporation. This drug stimulates the central nervous system, with
effects similar to but less potent than amphetamines and more potent than caffeine (Bailey 1). Several

Tablets, and in a sustained release form, Ritalin SR as 20 mg. tablets. It is readily water soluble and
intended for oral use. Many non medical users, however, crush the tablets and snort the resulting
powder. quot; (Bailey 1). Such abuse of the drug can be traced currently from junior high schools to
colleges. Some kids in middle school diagnosed with ADHD/ADD visited the nurse s office to have
their prescription stimulants distributed to them every four hours. Other kids, according to Boston
Globe s Patricia Wen, were stopping at bathrooms or hallways where the same pills are sold through
an illicit black market anywhere from 1 dollars to 3 dollars a pill (1).
Besides in school street marketing of the drug, Ritalin has caused a controversy over the real
percentage of college students abusing it. Dr. Eric
Wellington, clinical director of psychology at the University of Wisconsin found that after
interviewing over one hundred students, one in five misused their Ritalin in some form (Hanchett 1).
One way of obtaining this particular drug is through friends or roommates who acquire it to fight their
dwindling attention span. Once the Ritalin is in the abuser s possession, it is crushed up and snorted
through the nasal passage for an emotional, cheap high, or a study aid for a full night of cramming for
finals. Kids who abuse this drug can walk in and out of a daze for three days straight, never needing to

Sharon Olds Sex Without Love
Sharon Olds poem Sex without Love is a poem about the way one individual feels about having sex
without love. The speaker in the poem has a difficulty understanding why two people would want to
have sex without being in love. In the first two lines of the poem, the speaker says, how do they do,
the ones who make love / without love (Olds). The speaker seems to be questioning as to how people
have sex without love as though that wasn t something that could happen. There are different literary
elements that Olds uses throughout her poem to help us better understand how the speaker feels. These
elements help us to gain insight that the speaker feels that people should not have emotionless and
meaningless sex but should strive to find someone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In lines 4 8, the speaker says, fingers hooked / inside each other s bodies, faces / red as steak, wine,
wet as the / children at birth whose mothers are going to / give them away. The speaker is comparing
the two lovers to nothing but a piece of meat. The comparison is more or less showing us how sex
without love really feels. It is also saying that sex without love is emotionless and only requires the
partner s presence. Towards the end of the quote, the speaker is also comparing having sex without
love to a mother who has just given birth and choses to give her baby up. This could be one of the
repercussions of having sex without love. Sharon Olds uses another simile later on in the poem that
gives us another insight on how to speaker feels. The speaker goes on to say, just factors, like the
partner / in the bed, and not the truth, which is the / single body alone in the universe / against its own
best time (Olds). This comparison goes on to say that even though there isn t any love between the
two lovers, there is still pleasure in the act even if it is meaningless. This quote is also saying that even
though there is someone else in the bed with you, you are still alone. In the end, all that you will be
left with is yourself and there will never be that intimate connection that you get while having sex

The Ways Of A Healthier Country
The Key to a Healthier Country
Sin taxes are defined as an excise tax placed on any good or behavior deemed to be detrimental to
individuals and society. These include taxes on tobacco, alcohol, gambling, lotteries, prostitution, and
pornography. Recently this list has been expanded to include unhealthy foods, beverages and legalized
drug use. The author of Resolution: Sin Taxes are Just, Scott Pettit states that,
In the United States, they were first introduced during the Civil War, not as a way to deter sinful
behavior but as a way to raise revenue for the war effort. This strategy was used raise additional
revenue in subsequent wars, always being repealed after the war had ended. This changed after World
War II, when the Federal Government, in addition to individual states, saw sin taxes as a great way to
raise revenue. The public message was changed from temporary taxes to sin deterrence. Many
governments around the world have used this strategy (1).
Also, according to World Health Rankings, Russia is in the leading five countries for smoking. They
are also in the top five leading countries in strokes and heart attacks. Which leads

Essay on African Americans in Antebellum America
Africans first arrived in the area that later became the United States of America in around 1619 in the
Chesapeake area. The large amount of fertile land in the area gave the settlers their biggest cash crop,
which was tobacco. As time went by, more and more tobacco was being exported to England. Because
of this, more labor was needed. This need for more labor was not only in the north, but in the south as
well due to their mass production of cotton. This movement started the institution of slavery in
America. Then, the colonies and other countries started to trade slaves and it became a business. The
Royal African Company was the first slave trading company, which was started in 1672. The slaves
were transported by the Middle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The House of Representatives uses the states population to determine how many representatives each
state receives in the House. In the southern states, they thought that everyone, including slaves, should
be counted. The northern states did not think that it was fair to count the slaves in the total population,
since there were a lot more slaves in the south than the north. Both sides agreed to the 3/5
Compromise. This compromise said that for every 5 slaves, they would be counted as 3 citizens.
Therefore, 60% of the slave population would be used when the states population is counted. Slavery
in the United States lasted until towards the end of the Civil War and even some after the
Emancipation Proclamation, since it only freed slaves in the South and not in the North.
Growing up as a child in a slave family was pretty easy, until you discovered the harsh reality of
slavery. The children were not allowed to call certain people by certain names. For one former
Louisiana slave, that moment came when her mistress whipped her for saying to misses, `My mother
sent me. We were not allowed to call our mammies `mother. It was too near the way of the white
folks. (African American Voices pg. 109). Some children saw their own parents getting whipped and
became aware of the fact that their parents could not protect them from their master. Some children
copied their owners because that is

Supreme Court Cases During The Progressive Era
Progressive Era: The supreme court frequently began using the Tenth Amendment during the
progressive era. In various literatures I found of supreme court cases, it is seen that often times state
laws that established a maximum of work hours allow and/or to create working conditions. Various
legislation that were created were often times declared unconstitutional by the supreme court.
Legislation that were intended to help people were ruled unconstitutional because it supposedly
actually harmed workers by taking away their freedom to work long hours for low wages in such
conditions. Certain legal interpretation influenced Justices reasoning, and they decided that the choice
would affect the rights and liberties that the government should

disposing of pesky rodents, fighting wars, protecting people as well as valuables, and tending to

companions and new additions to families. However, that is not the only purpose that canines serve.
Dogs can also be of assistance to people with disabilities, military and police services, and therapeutic

has become increasingly easier to buy or adopt them. There are now many options of how to obtain a

Anti Federalists Vs. Federalists
Anti Federalists vs. Federalists (Paper #1)
The Federalists and the Anti Federalists played an indispensable part in the establishment of the
American Constitution. Federalists were supporters of the constitution, while Anti federalist were
against the ratification of the Constitution. Federalists believed in the idea of a larger heterogeneous
republic whereas anti federalists wanted a small homogenous republic. Famous federalists like James
Madison, John Jay and Alexander Hamilton are responsible for giving us paramount pieces of historic
documents in the form of the Federalist papers . The Federalist papers were 85 documents urging the
ratification of the US Constitution. Anti federalist side included people like Samuel Adams, George
Mason and Patrick Henry, and they believed the Articles of Confederation should be altered rather
than completely changed in the form of the Constitution. Concurring with the Federalist side, it is
imperative to see that the Federalists argument was more viable, due to the fact that larger republics
and checks and balances are useful tools in controlling a democracy. We can t compare ourselves to
the way Sparta and Athens operated. Our country would thrive more under a stronger national
government rather than a stronger state government. The anti federalists were against the proposed
Constitution and wanted the power to be invested in local and state levels. They believed that the
national government would be too far from the

Similarities Between Tattoos And Motion Pictures
Tattoos versus Motion Picture
Arguably what comes to mind when a person is intrigued by a tattoo, is curiosity behind the purpose
of it, and most importantly the reasoning. Like a motion picture or short film, there has to be a story
behind it, otherwise there would be confusion. Although tattoos and motion pictures both share many
similarities in story lines, genres, and depth, they have a plethora of differences.
Undoubtedly, these two concepts share story lines. Moreover, the process in development is very
different. Tattoos have a story line that is commonly very sentimental, the meaning is real and deep,
which is why an individual permanently places such kinds of expression on their skin. Although, not
all tattoos are this way, some tattoos might not have any meaning and have been placed upon the skin
for no logical reason. Tattoos have a very different development process, and often mean more to
individuals than movies. Often times when someone is watching a preview to a new movie, their
involvement falls deeper the more they find themselves fascinated by the story line. The story line is
what draws them in, and the more it relates personally, or strikes their imagination on a pathway of
fascination, the more likely they are to continue watching that genre of movie. Therefore, movies only
come to an in mind standpoint, although it has a story line, the display is not nearly as permanent as a
tattoo would be considered.
Arguably both areas have increasingly changed

The New Modern Global Automotive Industry
Today, the new modern global automotive industry includes the main manufacturers, General Motors,

marketplace. It is recommended that the globalization of the automotive industry, has considerably
quickened during the 1990 s because of the production of great overseas oppurtunities and
establisment of incorporations between large multinational automakers. Industry professionals show
that the origins in the increase of international trade in the automotive sector, time back to the
technology transfer of Ford Motor Company s mass production type from the U.S. to Western Europe

notable raises in the extension and production of the Japanese and German markets, specifically. The
second big trend in manufacturing globalization was the export of fuel economical cars from Japan to
the U.S. as a result of the oil prohibition from 1973 to 1974. Numbers from the Global Organization of
Motor Carrier Manufacturers point that the countries that produced the largest wheels were in
decreasing order China, the U.S., Japan, German, and South Korea with China s production being
about double that of the U.S. Sales numbers show that while bookings increased between 2005 and

The Crop Of Crop Rotation
Crop rotation is a systematic approach to choosing which crop to plant where in your vegetable garden
from one year to the next. The goals of crop rotation are to help manage soil fertility and to help
reduce conflicts with soilborne diseases and soil dwelling insects like corn. This process then changes
the different types of nutrients in the soil helping the soil to have more nutrients and the crops to be
better at resisting diseases and pests. One of the methods that was used with this appropriate farmer
was fertilizer. Fertilizers were first used by farmers in the Middle Easter and European countries
approximately eight thousand years ago. Biology of the plant: Another method used was cover crops.

It can also be used for other plants for something to climb on in case other plants need support to grow
on. This process is useful because with this method saves sustainability to other plants as
irreconcilable to trying to buy products to do the same thing. Best results for the plant to be
progressing is to be watched by farmers. This ensures the best crops to mature and grow. One of the
organic fertilizers the farmer uses is milorganite. Milorganite is one of the oldest branded fertilizers on
the market today. It is composed of heat dried microbes that have digested the organic matter in
wastewater. Milorganite is manufactured by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. This
fertilizer is slow burned and is full of nitrogen. Being at the farm is not a lot of research on milorganite
from sources outside the company. This process may be better left naturally because the process still
requires man made input and output. This uses viable resources. There is an article that I found
interesting and has more background about milorganite named Promoting Forest Recovery on a

featuring urea as the predominant N source while that for the latter was exclusively ammoniacal and
nitrate forms; and Milorganite 6 2 0 + Iron, an organic amendment derived from municipal biosolids.

Essay On Interracial Dating
Interracial and Cross Cultural Dating of Generation Y Interracial romance has been an issue in the
United States since the first English settlers established colonies during the seventeenth century. Over
the years, views toward interracial relationships in America have changed greatly. The interracial
dating trend among today s teenagers is increasing at a steady rate (Grapes 49). However, there are
still many biases facing Gen Y youth who choose to date someone of another race. A look at the
history of interracial romance in the United States will shed light on today s attitudes.
In the 1600s, Maryland banned interracial relationships between whites and slaves due to the

On one occasion, the man was mobbed and nearly lost his life (Landau 3).
Even decades later, white society seemed determined to prevent interracial romances in most
instances. A variety of obstacles were used to prohibit these relationships. Many social scientists in the
past focused on the supposed pathological aspects of the interracial relationship, and they assumed
that anyone involved in such a relationship must be disturbed in some way. In one case, a young white
woman s grandmother had her placed in a mental institution after the young woman announced her
engagement to an African American (Landau 5). When a young black man named Leroy Gardner
enrolled in Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1943, he had to sign a formal agreement
promising not to socialize with the white females on campus. Social scientists have observed many
justifications for black white relationships, such as the need to rebel against parents or society; a
passion for the exotic or forbidden fruit, the blacks desire to get even with the dominant culture, or
whites desire to atone for past racism (Majete 10).
In 1967, Loving v. Virginia cleared all legal barriers to interracial marriages and relationships. This
legislation made it legal to marry interracially, but many people weren t willing to accept these
relationships. For instance, in 1994 a white principal named Hulond Humphries caused uproar at

What Is The Theme Of The Butter Battle Book
When a topic like the Cold War is mention to children it can be a seen as a harsh and powerful
time. The Butter Battle Book by Dr. Seuss has many similarities involving events in the Cold War
which makes it unacceptable to expose through children s literature.
In the Cold War many events happened due to the political and military tension. For example In 1961,
Nikita Khrushchev which the soviet premier had ordered the Berlin Wall built to atop the flow of
refugees from East to West Berlin (Danzer p677). The Berlin Wall was built by the Communist East

Seuss had many events that were similar to the Cold war (1947 1991). The Butter battle book had a
wall that separated the Yooks from the Zooks due to many conflicts involving the butter side up and
the butter side down. Well as Yooks and Zooks built a wall so did the event of the Cold War. The
United States built a wall called The Berlin Wall to stop the flow of refugees from East to West Berlin
(Government and Politics). Not only did they both build a wall but they also had conflicts against the
other union. For instance The Yooks and Zooks from The Butter Battle Book had major conflicts
against each due to many Zooks eating their bread with the butter side down, in every Zook house and
in every Zook town every Zook eats his bread with the butter side down (Seuss 5). The United States
also had a conflict with the Soviet Union, they were both being driven by a complex interplay of
ideological, political, and economic factors (Thomas). The major people in both The Butter Battle
Book and The Cold War had many similarities. The Chief Yookeroo was the main leader or known as
the Yooks president. Chief Yookeroo was the commander for the bread butter side up which meant all
the Yooks reported to his headquarters fort when needed. Similar to this character was Harry Truman,

Pathos In The Other Face
Black holes are very huge formations in the space that have a tremendous tendency for absorbing
everything in the surrounding, and so our personalities are. We are born as void memory children who
couldn t differentiate between right and wrong. However, we were also programmed in a certain
manner that tells us what we are supposed to be, or exhibit. Socialization is a main clue which is
regarded as a programming utility for our personalities. Therefore, Salma Shalash, in The Other Face,
had a desire in shedding the light over the effect of personality programming, socialization, on
relationships, with respect to gender considerations. Shalash conducted her message by writing a short
temporary Egyptian story of a couple, being about to marry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Pathos was used explicitly by grabbing the emotions and feeling of the audience by the unexpected
spontaneous reaction of the fiancƩe ( Ethos, Pathos, and Logos ), showing her real mask, when she
noticed that her relationship and marriage are subjected to danger. Ethos is achieved by relying on a
divorced axial character, a friend of hers. The former dependence paves the audience mind for the fact
that marriage, at that environment, ceases being a divorce when problems, related to misperceiving
personalities, arise among couples. The author also accounted for the left brain audience who are
mainly interested in one to one events; consequently, Logos , as a persuasion mode, was used as a
transition between Shalash s knowing that her relationship with Fouad would be adversely affected
and her spontaneous reaction, based on her character, of the unexpected visit. To sum up, The Other
Face, by Salma Shallash, managed to conduct the message, triggered by the author s exigency, through
a theoretical writing model integrating both persuasion and original writing style. Salma Shallash, in
her story, assures the common Egyptian motto: Everything is with disagreement, except for marriage .
She also emphasizes that actions can be evaluated in different ways according to the one s perspective
in perceiving them. Therefore, a key to success and relax is the multi dimensional, or versatile,

The Positive And Negative Impact Of Information Technology...
Information Technology In My Life The millennial generation has seen more change in technological
adaptations and advancements than any generation thus far. As a collective group, we have turned
from the CD player, to the IPOD, to Spotify and Pandora. We have gone from viewing our favorite
movies on VCR, to DVD, to watching Netflix on our laptops. We have noticed the landline, the
household phone s, slow but steady irrelevance. These advancements are important and notable.
However, there is something far more important than our literal technological innovations, and that is
how they have affected our children and us. My youngest brother, Caleb was born in 2012.
Understanding that he does not fall under the category of the millennial generation has exhibited this
first hand knowledge that generations do, indeed have different attitudes, opinions, and ideas due to
what they were raised with. Caleb, currently, is growing up in an era surrounded by technology. The
world is at his fingertips and he is only five. Having observed this, I have noticed the positive and
negative affects of growing up in a fully immersed technological age. In my life, information
technology has proven its positive and negative affects in the growth and success of children. This has
occurred by 1) the children of the millennial age understanding technology and how to access it at a
exponentially faster than our generation, 2) our children developing a foundational dependency on
technology, and 3) a

Ethical Considerations When Choosing Car Ownership
Considering car dealerships and choosing the right ones for you and your needs is a major effort
because it will fully determine your buying experience and the terms of the finance lease or you have

term relationship with most buyers and therefore not a decision to be taken lightly.
Fortunately, the Internet makes choosing your dealership easier. Let s look at the kind of research and
considerations you can take to make sure you make the best choice of car dealerships available for
your needs.
Identify the dealer experience
Do not go to a dealer. Start by visiting the potential websites of auto dealers and see how long they are
in business. Well established dealers are always preferred because over time, they build the trust of the
community and create a body of work that can be judged and reported. A dealership in a few years is
more than a question mark, and since you may want to be serviced by your vehicle at the point where
you buy, you will need some assurance that the business is in coming years support your car.

covered in grass with the sun shining brightly around the foothills and clouds forming on the surface
of the land. In cold temperatures, water vapor crystallizes the air into microscopic snowflakes. The
grassy shores surrounds blue water, and in the center you will find an ancient volcanic cone. This
landscape is called Mono Lake. I chose to write about the Mono Indian Language after a friend had
shown me pictures of her road trip to Mono Lake, which was so unbelievable beautiful I thought it
would be an interesting language to write and learn about. This lake, to my surprise is in California,
and Mono Lake was an important part of the Mono ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mono, or Monoache known in Western Mono are of the Numic family of the Uto Aztecan language.
The Uto Aztecan is one of the largest, most diverse American language families, also known as a
super family, ranging past Southern California and the Great Basin to include languages from the
Great Plains to Central America. In the Western Numic region it spreads North from Owens Valley
through Western Nevada to Eastern Oregon and Southern Idaho. The Mono dialect of the Owens
valley area forms a dense confined group regarding the widespread and shallow Northern Paiute
dialect area. Certain territories of the Numic language were spoken around most of the Great Basin
and the Colorado Plateau however most Numic languages were spoken within three adjacent
California culture areas that include: Mono, Panamint, and Kawaiisu. The Mono language is similar to
the ones used by many other Native American nations and having a common tongue is called
Shoshone. The earliest version of this language was possibly developed over hundreds or thousands of
years. The Shoshone speaking nation eventually occupied a large portion of North America that
stretched from California to Texas and north to Wyoming. The Mono lived in villages and camps, at
elevations that ranged from 500 to 10,000 feet. They would relocate seasonally to take advantage of

Many factors led up to the Seven Years War and in this paper I will describe the social and political
backgrounds existent in eighteenth century America, explain how the diverse backgrounds and views
led to the Seven Years War and explain how the outcome of the Seven Years War affected me and
America. All of this will be explained as you read along in this paper. In the seventeenth century
before I was born, the colonies were becoming overrun by various, very different immigrant groups

Most of what a person needed to know they learned at home. Boys learned to farm, build, and hunt
while girls learned how to garden, care for the family, sew and cook.
The spread of Enlightenment ideals was the primary cause of the first Great Awakening and it further
intensified conflicts between eighteenth century colonial citizens (Davidson, J., 2006). The conflict
between superpowers for control of the continent began the Seven Years War. Some put the beginning
of the Seven Years War in 1754, but it actually occurred from 1756 to 1763. In the Seven Years War,
France and Great Britain struggled to control eastern North America (Davidson, J., 2006) The area
between the Mississippi River and the Appalachian mountain range was contested as both nations
claimed it. When the British won the Seven Years War, their colonial holdings doubled in size and
they gained control of North America. Conflicts over trading rights and the control of the Ohio
country was the primary cause of the French and Indian War (Davidson, J., 2006). British control of
North American and the Seven Years War led to many problems as the British struggled to maintain
their supremacy. The French came out behind in each of these struggles. They lost their position as
highest colonial power for the next generation their position would not be restored until the French
Revolution of the 1790 s.

Coal Lobbying
Envisage a world where only the twinkle of candlelight illuminates windows in the night, warmth is
provided by wood stoves, and horse drawn carriages provide transportation: a world without energy
provided by fossil fuels. One might think this is the world of our forefathers and of bygone days;
however, with staggering increases in energy demands perhaps such a world may not be so far from
reality if humanity fails to adapt to these changing needs and how we produce energy to meet global
energy requirements. There is no doubt that the greatest issues affecting humanity today are that of
pollution fueled climate change and energy insecurity (Jacobson and Delucchi 1154). A number of
solutions have been proposed in efforts to reduce our dependence ... Show more content on

The narrative of clean coal has been propped up by the industries primary lobbyist group, the National
Mining Association, with a budget of nearly twenty million dollars a year (Coniff). Lobbying is a
natural part of the political process, but the issue becomes when the lobbying is disingenuous and the
coal industry has zero intentions of implementing clean coal, based on the fact that no coal plants
currently in the United States make use of any of the technology. Although the technology is still
being developed, there are no future plans to implement it as well. On the other side, those who speak
out against coal and clean coal are naturally groups concerned about the environment, such as the
Environmental Protection Agency and green advocacy groups. They recognize that coal power plants
are the primary contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the United States and thus their emissions
must be controlled (Eilperin and Mufson). They also believe even though limiting coal power plants
will cost a great deal of money, the American people will have a net benefit due to lower public health
costs as a result of air pollution while also benefitting globally by reducing greenhouse gas fueled
climate change. Essentially, clean coal is pursued by those who have a vested commercial interest in
its being as a mainstay of electricity generation, while those who oppose it are against the negative

Art In Art
Throughout history, art has served as a photograph of the past. Art has helped us understand the past
and gave us clue on how the people on that era led their life. Art has also helped us understand each
era s beliefs and ideas. From the 400s through the early Renaissance, the majority of art in Europe was
rooted in Christianity. However, beginning with the Renaissance, art has become more secular. The
transforming power structure of Europe, the Scientific Revolution, and the Enlightenment have
contributed to the shift which resulted in a tension between the authority of the Catholic Church and
the secular European Monarchies. By looking at two arts from these era, we can see the political,
intellectual, and cultural changes in Europe. 1. The Transforming Power Structure of Europe (Church
vs Kings) In France, a portrait of Louis XIV by Hyacinthe Rigaud and the architecture of the palace at
Versailles shows the shift of power from the authority of the Catholic Church towards the secular
French monarchy. Under Louis XIV, France became an absolute monarchy where full power resided
with the king. As an absolute monarch, Louis was not subject to any constitutional limitations, leading
him to declare I etat, c est moi which means I am the state . He ruled by the concept of divine right
which means receiving his authority directly from God and refused to share authority with the church.
He became known as the Sun King and declared himself the center of the universe. In his

Cultural Beliefs In The Odyssey By Beowulf
In The Odyssey, the Cyclops symbolizes cultural values straying from the norm of society, while in
Beowulf, Grendel symbolizes the consequences of not conforming to those values.
In The Odyssey, Homer uses the Cyclops to encapsulate values which are considered abnormal in
everyday society. The beasts are culturally, politically and religiously detached from civilization.
Homer describes the one eyed beasts, They have no meeting place for council, no laws either, no, up
on the mountain peaks they live in arching caverns each a law to himself, ruling his wives and
children, not a care in the world for any neighbor (9.125 128) In ancient greek society family and
community were heavily valued, however it seems that each Cyclops wants nothing to do with the
others, revealing them as cultural outsiders who wouldn t be accepted among humanity. Additionally,
the brutes have no meeting place for council, no laws either. The Odyssey was written in the 8th
century BC, during the beginnings of Archaic Greece. City states were the popular form of
government and communal decision making started to gain value. In stark contrast to this form of
politics, the Cyclops made decisions for themselves, rarely communicating with anyone but their own
families. Their governmental actions stray far from the Greeks public standards. Perhaps the largest
difference between the Cyclops and any other Greek citizen though, is their religious difference. The

Examples Of Sleep In Macbeth

Sleep in Macbeth
In Shakespeare s Macbeth, a single word can connote a range of meanings, including some that are
even contradictory. For example, the word sleep suggests meanings that are nearly opposite: sleep is
associated with innocence and peaceful rest on the one hand, but also nightmares and death on the
other. While the word rarely appears in Acts 3 and 4, where the characters are involved in action, it
appears often in Acts 1, 2 and 5, when characters observe the consequences of their actions. In
Macbeth, the meaning of sleep is shaped not only by the context, but also by the character who speaks
the word or is associated with it. Characters use of the word sleep can provide ... Show more content

The gentlewoman describes to the doctor how she has seen Lady Macbeth, rise from her bed, throw

seal it, and again return to bed; yet all this while in a most fast sleep. (4 9) The doctor then comments,
A great perturbation in nature, to receive at once the benefit of sleep, and do the effects of watching!
(10 12) The doctor is saying that for Lady Macbeth to be both asleep and yet capable of action, is not
natural. As she sleepwalks, Lady Macbeth recalls parts of the events of the murders of Duncan,
Banquo, and Lady Macduff. Her incriminating words are overheard by the Doctor and a gentlewoman.
Later, when Macbeth is putting on his armor, he asks the doctor how his wife is doing, and the doctor
responds that she is not physically sick, but instead troubled with thick coming fancies. (5.3.47) Thus,
her sleepwalking, a form of sleep that allows her no rest, is the result of her overwhelmed and agitated
mental state. Macbeth asks the doctor to cure her mental troubles, but this is beyond the doctor s
practice (5.1.62). At the same time, Lady Macbeth s sleepwalking does not mean that everything she

How Does Sandburg Use Personification In The Divine Grass
The Divine Grass: Personification, Allusions, and Free in Grass by Carl Sandburg A great Italian poet
named Dante Alighieri once said, Nature is the art of God. Nature has dominated earth since the very
beginning. When all perishes, nature still remains. This is seen in the poem called Grass by Carl
Sandburg which is a free verse poem that emphasizes war and the immortality of nature. Throughout,
the entire poem, the speaker remains unsympathetic towards the deaths caused by humanity because it
is a constant cycle. Sandburg uses personification, allusions, and free verse with an emphasis on the
imperative tense to express nature as a divine being, covering up the casualties of human intervention.
To demonstrate how insignificant humans are when compared to nature, Carl Sandburg used
personification in order to make grass the speaker of the poem. In the poem, Grass appears to be a
force of intelligence and labor. The speaker states, I am grass. I cover all (Sandburg 3). It is important
to note that the poem is in first person because it makes the audience aware that they are in the
perspective of a being other than themselves. Grass does not have its own thoughts, but the poet gave
grass its own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grass serves as the pan historical speaker and sees humans die constantly, but show little to no
emotion. The poem made allusions up to World War I because that was the timeframe Sandburg lived.
At the time, World War I was believed to be the war that ends all wars. Ironically, this did not happen
because World War II immediately followed. This shows as time passes, the grass will cover it all,
leaving nothing behind for people to remember. Nature covers the scars of the past with beautiful
landscapes, but there will always be the forgotten bodies beneath. Humans will eventually be
forgotten, but nature will always

The Status Quo of Higher Education in the United Kingdom
Literature review 4000 less p.3
The status quo of higher education in the United Kingdom (UK): internationalized, leading but
critical. The first part of this literature review aim is to use exhaustive evidence to critically evaluate
the position of higher education stands in the UK, and in turn try to expose the ambivalent issues that
are caused by globalization from a macro perspective.
The second part is based on international students experiential point of view, look into the purposes of
studying abroad and demonstrate the nostalgic mentality of being away from home.
Internationalization of Higher Education in UK
In the 19th century Great Britain was known as the empire on which the sun never sets , especially in
the Victorian Era (1837 1909), the higher education system grew rapidly due to the English industry
revolution in order to fulfill the demand of talents. The oldest university in UK also in the English
speaking world is University of Oxford which established around 1096 (Oxford 2014). Education city
(Wildavsky 2010, p.53), city like Oxford and London, cities built surround by the best education
institutions, open attitude to different culture and the high level of civilization. For 800 years, UK has
been keeping the highest looked upon education status as the leader of the world, This is because
education is also an essential element in firming the power of a nation state besides economy, military

How Does The Concentration Of Hydrochloric Acid Affect The...
Aim:
To investigate how concentration affects the volume of gas that is produced after one minute.
Background Information:
In this experiment hydrochloric acid is reacting with magnesium to form magnesium chloride and
hydrogen, and the chemical equation goes as follows:
Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) == MgCl2 (aq) + H2 (g)
Particles must collide with each other at a certain activation energy in order for a chemical reaction to
take place. Reducing the concentration reduces the amount of particles, which in turn reduces the
probability of particles colliding with enough activation energy thus reducing the rate of reaction.
Hypothesis:
I predict that the rate of reaction will increase as the concentration increases. This is due to the fact

results that I got agree with my hypothesis because I predicted that the higher the concentration the
faster the rate of reaction would be, and the results I got show that more gas was produced at each
given time interval as the concentration increased. THis is due to the fact that as the concentration

The Treaty of Waitangi
When dealing with two vastly separate cultures from different worlds, it becomes apparent how things
can get misconstrued. Te Triti O Waitangi is the starting point of a complex piece of Aotearoa history.
This essay gives a short commentary on the context around the signing of Te Tiriti. It includes the
articles and inconsistencies between the documents. Further discussion identifies breaches of Te Tiriti
in regards to health and the consequences for Maori. Finally the potential role that Te Tiriti plays in
the health recovery for Maori concludes this dialogue. Prior to European in Aotearoa, Māori lived

Breaches of Te Tiriti have had far and wide reaching implications for Māori health. Legislations
contradicting all facets of Te Tiriti led to the dissolution of Maori rights (Naumann, et al. ,1990, p.54).
These laws encroached on Māori way of knowing and being. For example, the banning of Te Reo
Māori in public, almost single handedly drove this oral culture to extinction, as the vehicle for driving
tikanga and kawa is language. Māori were punished for speaking te reo and chose to protect their
tamariki by not passing on their reo (Selby Laurie, 2005). A whole generation had passed before the
detrimental effects of those actions were comprehended. Due to assimilation Māori cultural identity
was systematically removed and replaced with western ideology (Durie, 1998).
The Constitution Act (1852) gave the right to vote based on single title, land owned communally left
Māori ineligible to vote. The Native Land Act (1862) let pakeha apply for land title, which was then
heard in court and given to Pakeha (Naumann, et al., 1990, p.55). As more land was confiscated,
economic viability for Māori became limited. This land alienation and urbanisation created poverty
that rapidly developed within Māori communities. Whanau left their turangawaiwai to work in the
city, often collecting minimal wages. This cycle forced Māori into the welfare system (Durie, 1998).

Southeast Team Master Plan of Evaluation A master plan of evaluation serves to meet the expectations
standards of academia. The plan is designed to track and measure the success of the planned outcomes
and organized around an evaluation model and theory set by the program designers (Keating, 2015).
Furthermore, as a systematic and written document, the master plan is usually based on evaluation
frameworks, which guide the activities for gathering and analyzing data. The plan provides the tools
for continuous evaluation to identify successes and shortcomings of the program (Ellis, 2016). In

The Benefits Of Teaching Technology And Technology In The...
As technology moves further along in today s day and age the world has to start applying that
technology to useful situations. A great way to utilize this growing field of technology is to start
integrating it into the classrooms of the schools. Whether that technology is applied directly to the
students or for the faculty to use to teach the students it s a beneficial factor for the school and the
students. A big problem in getting the technology applied to our classrooms is teacher willingness. A
teachers job is to teach his or her students to the best of their abilities; and as technology is becoming
a better way to teach students, the teachers need to accept that technology is a better way of applying
the material to the student. If a teacher is willing to apply that learning technology then the students
also benefit from it. Since the beginning of the school, the teachers have been a very necessary asset
for a school. In today s world technology and teachers are seen as the biggest assets for a school
system. The technology is a very important tool in the school system if it is applied and used correctly.
The success of the technology is based on the teacher s use of the technology. All together teachers
and technology go hand in hand in the roles of the students. One of the best major benefits of using
technology in schools is that it can be tailored to directly contour to a student s needs. Say if a student

not have the cash on hand to purchase raw materials and pay expenses, which can negatively impact
its ability to turn a profit. This will be examined further when the average collection period is analyzed

Thoth s Role In Egyptian Mythology
I ve always been fascinated by Egyptian mythology and all of the hundreds of thousands gods that the
Egyptians somehow managed to name and worship. The one that I always seem to recollect with the
most is the god Thoth. Like most gods, he has several facets that he is worshipped for, such as being
the god of the moon, the patron of writing, and being the patron of magicians. According to some
sources, he was even a creator god. Whatever godly aspect he had authority over originally were
added onto, as is true for most gods and goddesses of ancient times. Thoth is usually shown as the ibis
headed god of the moon, and that is also his most recognizable image that we see today, but he has
also been shown as a baboon headed god, or simply as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thoth was worshipped with the Hermopolis Ogdoad, or the eight gods and goddesses worshipped at
Hermopolis. There, Thoth is considered to be the creator of the other gods, and therefore the world. It
is said that Thoth, as an ibis, laid a cosmic egg by which the Ogdoad were born. His temple in
Hermopolis is much like any other temple in Ancient Egypt: a walkway with sphinxes watching your
every move, a pylon gateway that was guarded by obelisks and the statue of the pharaoh who founded
the temple. Within the temple, one would find the open air court with columns all around, some
reaching up to eight stories high; the inner sanctuary held the statue of the particular god worshipped
at the site, which could only be accessed by the priests or the pharaoh. At the back of the temple, one
might find the Chapel of the Hearing Ear , which was used by the regular people of the day. The only
difference between the temples of Thoth and many of the other temples was that at his temples, there
was often an ibis cult, where ibis birds were mummified after they died in order to appease the ibis
headed Thoth. Ibis s were important to the god Thoth because he had the head of an ibis, and the
hieroglyph for Thoth was in fact an ibis. Whenever Thoth was depicted as a baboon, as rare as it was
to see him like that, he was often depicted beneath the sun, its hands

Achinese Contribution
Ancient China was extremely advanced and many of its discoveries are still in use today s world.
Perhaps the Chinese has contributed more to the advancement of human kind than any other ancient
culture. They have contributed to our world civilization s achievements in the fields of agriculture,
shipping, astronomy, printing, oil, martial arts, ammunition and mathematics. Ancient Chinese
inventions such as gunpowder, silk, paper, printing, tea, wheel barrow, iron plows, deep drilling,
porcelain, toilet paper and the compass were and still are important pieces of Chinese and global life.
These inventions were major blocks in the building of the world as we know today. The four main

The instrument resembled a spoon which when placed on a plate on the ground, the handle points to
the south. This enabled the compass to be used for sea navigation for the first time ( The Compass ,

would be lost. Besides the continued use in hiking and boating, the compass is now used in vehicles.
GPS systems Global Positioning Systems in vehicles are just re modulated compasses. Of course, its
primary use is still navigation. It is intriguing to reflect on the fact that an item invented century ago is
still useful in modern life.
The one invention that I cannot live without is paper. Paper has evolved over the years from just a
writing surface to a material that touches nearly every aspect of our lives. Throughout the day, each
and every one of us is in permanent contact with paper. Paper has given me knowledge to
communicate with the world around me through books. It is true modern technologies like computer
and internet has made it easy to learn, teach and spread knowledge much faster. But it did not
subordinate the usage of paper in our lives. Our money, cheeks, deeds, diploma, birth certificate,
marriage license, and passport all documents which govern our lives, are made of paper. We use paper
as package materials as well as

Lord Of The Flies Ralph Character Analysis
To further illustrate, in Lord of the Flies the character, Ralph, is a round and dynamic character. Ralph
can be classified as this type of character because of the changes he undergoes as the story unfolds. To
explain, at the beginning of the story, Ralph is confident and optimistic when himself and multiple
boys crash on an island. He takes control and earns the trust if the group. Ralph conducts assemblies
and his words are determined and civilized, All at once he found he could talk fluently and explain
what he had to say... we want to be rescued; and of course, we shall be rescued...we must make a fire
(Golding 32 38). Ralph s words and actions show his boldness to take control and his strong belief in
being rescued. However, as the story continues, the system and trust Ralph establish begins to
diminish, resulting in two separate groups. The one group contains Ralph and very few civilized boys,
and the second group is made up Jack and the savages. Although the groups are at peace at first,
multiple fights and Piggy s stolen glasses causes Ralph to partially change. This change is revealed to
the readers when Ralph and Piggy go to the saves to retrieve the glasses, Truculently they squared up
to each other but kept just out of fighting distance... Ralph remember what we came for. The fire. My
specs (Golding 177). During this mission, the once civilized Ralph begins to fight with the savages
and he acted barbaric himself. Ralph s and actions and Piggy s words show the reader how Ralph
transformed the course of the book from being civilized and confident with his word; however, Ralph
is now becoming a savage and loses his optimistic attitude. Piggy s words to Ralph, shows how Ralph
is forgetting the idea of being civilized because Piggy must constantly remind Ralph of their mission,
but Ralph seems to just want to fight. Ralph s shift in personality shows the reader that he is a
dynamic and round character. Therefore, Ralph s character undergoes development; however, Brutus
in Julius Ceaser changes in an equivalent way.
In addition to Ralph s dynamic character, in Julius Ceaser the character, Marcus Brutus, is a dynamic
and round character. Throughout the play, Brutus character experiences a

Natural Resources In The Kite Runner
Imagine if the people of a country did not have clean water to shower with, gas for transportation, or a
place to live in because of the lack of natural resources. These resources can be found within certain
areas of Afghanistan s geological setting. Discovering them would have an economic and political
effect on society. Natural resources are vital because Afghans utilize them to help carry out daily life.
In the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, Amir s father built an orphanage using the
materials Afghanistan provided. Natural resources are the fuel the country runs on.
Natural Resources are found in several locations in or around Afghanistan. Countries bordering
Afghanistan are rich in resources. China, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Tajikistan are

Obstacles In College
Being a freshman in college, I set impractical and unrealistic goals for myself. Throughout the year, I
had to overcome various obstacles to strive in meeting the goals I had set out for myself. One of my
goals during the first year of college was to earn a 4.0 GPA. I thought this would be an easy feat as I
was able to academically grow throughout my academic career excelling from being roughly a 2.6
GPA student to roughly a 4.0 GPA student. One of the biggest obstacles I had to face was taking
exams. In high school, I did not need to prepare for exams as much as I do in college. I underestimated
my midterms and finals as I did not know that I had to study at least a week ahead of time in order to
obtain suitable grades. In high school, I was able to study one or two nights beforehand and still
manage to achieve high grades.
Another goal I had during my first year of college was to figure out my major. Being that there were
many options, it also became an obstacle. Knowing that people often change their majors more than
once throughout college, I decided to take various courses that were part of my GE in order to give
myself time to think about potential majors. Throughout the span of those courses, I was able to learn
about various majors as I met new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

able to pass all of my exams with outstanding grades. Since I have already chosen the path of
becoming a business major, my second goal is to maintain adequate grades in order to declare as a
business major. By studying ahead of time and obtaining good grades, I hope to successfully be on

Difference Between Absolute Advantage And Comparative...
1. Explain Opportunity Cost and provide an example. (5 points) Opportunity cost can be defined as a
high valued alternative that must be given up in order to achieve or obtain something else. In other
words, for anything you decide to spend your time doing results in sacrificing the opportunity to
engage in doing something else. The value of the sacrificed alternative can only be determined by the
individual that is choosing to sacrifice it. There are numerous examples of opportunity cost
surrounding us throughout every day. Personally, I face opportunity cost scenarios constantly, both at
my job and at home. The opportunity cost of me being in college is the time I would have spent doing
a number of other things I enjoy, such as spending time with friends and family. However, obtaining
an education and pursuing my goals is extremely important to me, therefore, I must sacrifice other
high valued alternatives that I greatly enjoy. 2. What is the difference between absolute advantage and
comparative advantage? What is the benefit of trade? (5 Points) Comparative advantage occurs when
an individual or firm has the ability to produce a good or service at a lesser opportunity cost than that
of other entities. Absolute advantage occurs when an individual or firm has the ability to produce a
good or service more efficiently and at a lower cost per unit. In other words, an individual or firm that
has the absolute advantage has the ability to produce more of good or service

  • 2. Digital Classroom Plan Analysis The Volusia County School District adopted in December 2015, it s Digital Classroom Plan. This plan was created to support the instructional shifts required by Florida Standards through the use of digital tools and technologies. The plan also supports the Digital Learning Now Act (July 1, 2011), which requires school districts to offer virtual instruction and requires online learning as a requirement for high school graduation. The plan also included professional development and curriculum resources for teachers for digital instructional materials aligned to Florida Standards, online assessments and other technology tools (Volusia County Schools, 2015). Currently the district has the Virtual Online, a charter school, which uses Moodle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To help with the implementation of training, two new positions will be created at the district level: Lead Facilitator of DCP and Digital Resource Teacher on Assignment. The Lead Facilitator position s salary would be $69,000 for 12 month position and the TOA salary would be $39,000 for 10 month position. These positions would oversee training during professional development and troubleshooting issues with Canvas and other digital tools being used by the district. These costs would be similar to the current cost already being spent on Sharepointe and Moodle, which will be eliminated after Canvas has been purchased. The two new positions are being paid through a grant through the State of Florida for implementing a Digital Classroom Plan and would not be added to the district s current budget. The overall management of the plan would be overseen and tracked by the Director of Technology Services. This project is a real life scenario, and is being considered by Volusia County School District. Currently, the district is using the free access to look at the features of Canvas. Extant data was used from the Digital Learning Plan to create this proposal. Canvas will eliminate the problem of training for multiple software and allow accessibility through mobile devices. • 3. The Infamous Reputation of Drones For many people, just the word drone sends a chill down their spine. The infamous reputation of these unmanned flying objects comes from their heavy use in war zones where they are meant to track and kill. The purpose of these drones is to complete a mission without risking the lives of soldiers. Contrary to popular belief, most drones are used for purposes other than warfare. The public rarely hears about the positive side of drones and thus their opinion on drones is simply biased because they do not realize that there is another, much larger side to drones that is peaceful. Most drones are used for surveillance along borders or simply for fun. The use of drones for recreation seems to slowly be catching on and will offer amazing possibilities. Even though many people do not recognize the positive side of drones, they have the power to revolutionize the way we see and understand the world, protect the lives of the soldiers and allow for amazing private experiences through their wide range of uses. Drones have long proven their superiority in warfare. They are capable to follow their target without being noticed and can strike whenever needed without have a solder on the ground. It is not even necessary for the drone pilot to be in the same country as the drone. A drone can fly in Afghanistan but the pilot is safe in his own home country. The drone technology therefore saves the lives of many soldiers who would otherwise be in harms way. Drones can prevent ambushes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Is Ritalin Good Essay Is Ritalin Good? Have you ever suffered or known anyone that has suffered from attention deficit disorder? A.D.D. is a biologically based condition causing a persistent pattern of difficulties, which includes three types of behavior. These three types are difficulty attending or focusing on a specific task, difficulty inhibiting behavior, and difficulty controlling impulses. In 1950 the prescription drug Ritalin was patented and manufactured by the CIBA Geigy Corporation. This drug stimulates the central nervous system, with effects similar to but less potent than amphetamines and more potent than caffeine (Bailey 1). Several million children are being treated with Ritalin on the grounds that they have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tablets, and in a sustained release form, Ritalin SR as 20 mg. tablets. It is readily water soluble and intended for oral use. Many non medical users, however, crush the tablets and snort the resulting powder. quot; (Bailey 1). Such abuse of the drug can be traced currently from junior high schools to colleges. Some kids in middle school diagnosed with ADHD/ADD visited the nurse s office to have their prescription stimulants distributed to them every four hours. Other kids, according to Boston Globe s Patricia Wen, were stopping at bathrooms or hallways where the same pills are sold through an illicit black market anywhere from 1 dollars to 3 dollars a pill (1). Besides in school street marketing of the drug, Ritalin has caused a controversy over the real percentage of college students abusing it. Dr. Eric Wellington, clinical director of psychology at the University of Wisconsin found that after interviewing over one hundred students, one in five misused their Ritalin in some form (Hanchett 1). One way of obtaining this particular drug is through friends or roommates who acquire it to fight their dwindling attention span. Once the Ritalin is in the abuser s possession, it is crushed up and snorted through the nasal passage for an emotional, cheap high, or a study aid for a full night of cramming for finals. Kids who abuse this drug can walk in and out of a daze for three days straight, never needing to nourish themselves or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Sharon Olds Sex Without Love Sharon Olds poem Sex without Love is a poem about the way one individual feels about having sex without love. The speaker in the poem has a difficulty understanding why two people would want to have sex without being in love. In the first two lines of the poem, the speaker says, how do they do, the ones who make love / without love (Olds). The speaker seems to be questioning as to how people have sex without love as though that wasn t something that could happen. There are different literary elements that Olds uses throughout her poem to help us better understand how the speaker feels. These elements help us to gain insight that the speaker feels that people should not have emotionless and meaningless sex but should strive to find someone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In lines 4 8, the speaker says, fingers hooked / inside each other s bodies, faces / red as steak, wine, wet as the / children at birth whose mothers are going to / give them away. The speaker is comparing the two lovers to nothing but a piece of meat. The comparison is more or less showing us how sex without love really feels. It is also saying that sex without love is emotionless and only requires the partner s presence. Towards the end of the quote, the speaker is also comparing having sex without love to a mother who has just given birth and choses to give her baby up. This could be one of the repercussions of having sex without love. Sharon Olds uses another simile later on in the poem that gives us another insight on how to speaker feels. The speaker goes on to say, just factors, like the partner / in the bed, and not the truth, which is the / single body alone in the universe / against its own best time (Olds). This comparison goes on to say that even though there isn t any love between the two lovers, there is still pleasure in the act even if it is meaningless. This quote is also saying that even though there is someone else in the bed with you, you are still alone. In the end, all that you will be left with is yourself and there will never be that intimate connection that you get while having sex while in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Ways Of A Healthier Country The Key to a Healthier Country Sin taxes are defined as an excise tax placed on any good or behavior deemed to be detrimental to individuals and society. These include taxes on tobacco, alcohol, gambling, lotteries, prostitution, and pornography. Recently this list has been expanded to include unhealthy foods, beverages and legalized drug use. The author of Resolution: Sin Taxes are Just, Scott Pettit states that, In the United States, they were first introduced during the Civil War, not as a way to deter sinful behavior but as a way to raise revenue for the war effort. This strategy was used raise additional revenue in subsequent wars, always being repealed after the war had ended. This changed after World War II, when the Federal Government, in addition to individual states, saw sin taxes as a great way to raise revenue. The public message was changed from temporary taxes to sin deterrence. Many governments around the world have used this strategy (1). Also, according to World Health Rankings, Russia is in the leading five countries for smoking. They are also in the top five leading countries in strokes and heart attacks. Which leads Parks !1 ļæ¼us to believe there is a connection between smoking and health concerns. Although sin tax can trigger hoarding and increase the black market smuggling rate. • 7. Essay on African Americans in Antebellum America Africans first arrived in the area that later became the United States of America in around 1619 in the Chesapeake area. The large amount of fertile land in the area gave the settlers their biggest cash crop, which was tobacco. As time went by, more and more tobacco was being exported to England. Because of this, more labor was needed. This need for more labor was not only in the north, but in the south as well due to their mass production of cotton. This movement started the institution of slavery in America. Then, the colonies and other countries started to trade slaves and it became a business. The Royal African Company was the first slave trading company, which was started in 1672. The slaves were transported by the Middle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The House of Representatives uses the states population to determine how many representatives each state receives in the House. In the southern states, they thought that everyone, including slaves, should be counted. The northern states did not think that it was fair to count the slaves in the total population, since there were a lot more slaves in the south than the north. Both sides agreed to the 3/5 Compromise. This compromise said that for every 5 slaves, they would be counted as 3 citizens. Therefore, 60% of the slave population would be used when the states population is counted. Slavery in the United States lasted until towards the end of the Civil War and even some after the Emancipation Proclamation, since it only freed slaves in the South and not in the North. Growing up as a child in a slave family was pretty easy, until you discovered the harsh reality of slavery. The children were not allowed to call certain people by certain names. For one former Louisiana slave, that moment came when her mistress whipped her for saying to misses, `My mother sent me. We were not allowed to call our mammies `mother. It was too near the way of the white folks. (African American Voices pg. 109). Some children saw their own parents getting whipped and became aware of the fact that their parents could not protect them from their master. Some children copied their owners because that is ... In various literatures I found of supreme court cases, it is seen that often times state laws that established a maximum of work hours allow and/or to create working conditions. Various legislation that were created were often times declared unconstitutional by the supreme court. Legislation that were intended to help people were ruled unconstitutional because it supposedly actually harmed workers by taking away their freedom to work long hours for low wages in such conditions. • 10. Anti Federalists Vs. Federalists Anti Federalists vs. Federalists (Paper #1) The Federalists and the Anti Federalists played an indispensable part in the establishment of the American Constitution. Federalists were supporters of the constitution, while Anti federalist were against the ratification of the Constitution. Federalists believed in the idea of a larger heterogeneous republic whereas anti federalists wanted a small homogenous republic. Famous federalists like James Madison, John Jay and Alexander Hamilton are responsible for giving us paramount pieces of historic documents in the form of the Federalist papers . The Federalist papers were 85 documents urging the ratification of the US Constitution. Anti federalist side included people like Samuel Adams, George Mason and Patrick Henry, and they believed the Articles of Confederation should be altered rather than completely changed in the form of the Constitution. Concurring with the Federalist side, it is imperative to see that the Federalists argument was more viable, due to the fact that larger republics and checks and balances are useful tools in controlling a democracy. We can t compare ourselves to the way Sparta and Athens operated. Our country would thrive more under a stronger national government rather than a stronger state government. The anti federalists were against the proposed Constitution and wanted the power to be invested in local and state levels. They believed that the national government would be too far from the ... • 11. Similarities Between Tattoos And Motion Pictures Tattoos versus Motion Picture Arguably what comes to mind when a person is intrigued by a tattoo, is curiosity behind the purpose of it, and most importantly the reasoning. Like a motion picture or short film, there has to be a story behind it, otherwise there would be confusion. Although tattoos and motion pictures both share many similarities in story lines, genres, and depth, they have a plethora of differences. Undoubtedly, these two concepts share story lines. Moreover, the process in development is very different. Tattoos have a story line that is commonly very sentimental, the meaning is real and deep, which is why an individual permanently places such kinds of expression on their skin. Although, not all tattoos are this way, some tattoos might not have any meaning and have been placed upon the skin for no logical reason. Tattoos have a very different development process, and often mean more to individuals than movies. Often times when someone is watching a preview to a new movie, their involvement falls deeper the more they find themselves fascinated by the story line. The story line is what draws them in, and the more it relates personally, or strikes their imagination on a pathway of fascination, the more likely they are to continue watching that genre of movie. Therefore, movies only come to an in mind standpoint, although it has a story line, the display is not nearly as permanent as a tattoo would be considered. Arguably both areas have increasingly changed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The New Modern Global Automotive Industry Today, the new modern global automotive industry includes the main manufacturers, General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen, and Daimler Chrylser, all of that work in a competitive global marketplace. It is recommended that the globalization of the automotive industry, has considerably quickened during the 1990 s because of the production of great overseas oppurtunities and establisment of incorporations between large multinational automakers. Industry professionals show that the origins in the increase of international trade in the automotive sector, time back to the technology transfer of Ford Motor Company s mass production type from the U.S. to Western Europe and Japan following both World Wars I and II.2 The improvements in industrialization directed to notable raises in the extension and production of the Japanese and German markets, specifically. The second big trend in manufacturing globalization was the export of fuel economical cars from Japan to the U.S. as a result of the oil prohibition from 1973 to 1974. Numbers from the Global Organization of Motor Carrier Manufacturers point that the countries that produced the largest wheels were in decreasing order China, the U.S., Japan, German, and South Korea with China s production being about double that of the U.S. Sales numbers show that while bookings increased between 2005 and 2013, the extension by country was rough. • 13. The Crop Of Crop Rotation Crop rotation is a systematic approach to choosing which crop to plant where in your vegetable garden from one year to the next. The goals of crop rotation are to help manage soil fertility and to help reduce conflicts with soilborne diseases and soil dwelling insects like corn. This process then changes the different types of nutrients in the soil helping the soil to have more nutrients and the crops to be better at resisting diseases and pests. Milorganite is one of the oldest branded fertilizers on the market today. It is composed of heat dried microbes that have digested the organic matter in wastewater. Milorganite is manufactured by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. This fertilizer is slow burned and is full of nitrogen. • 14. Essay On Interracial Dating Interracial and Cross Cultural Dating of Generation Y Interracial romance has been an issue in the United States since the first English settlers established colonies during the seventeenth century. Over the years, views toward interracial relationships in America have changed greatly. The interracial dating trend among today s teenagers is increasing at a steady rate (Grapes 49). However, there are still many biases facing Gen Y youth who choose to date someone of another race. On one occasion, the man was mobbed and nearly lost his life (Landau 3). Even decades later, white society seemed determined to prevent interracial romances in most instances. A variety of obstacles were used to prohibit these relationships. Many social scientists in the past focused on the supposed pathological aspects of the interracial relationship, and they assumed that anyone involved in such a relationship must be disturbed in some way. In one case, a young white woman s grandmother had her placed in a mental institution after the young woman announced her engagement to an African American (Landau 5). When a young black man named Leroy Gardner enrolled in Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1943, he had to sign a formal agreement promising not to socialize with the white females on campus. Social scientists have observed many justifications for black white relationships, such as the need to rebel against parents or society; a passion for the exotic or forbidden fruit, the blacks desire to get even with the dominant culture, or whites desire to atone for past racism (Majete 10). In 1967, Loving v. Virginia cleared all legal barriers to interracial marriages and relationships. The Butter battle book had a wall that separated the Yooks from the Zooks due to many conflicts involving the butter side up and the butter side down. Well as Yooks and Zooks built a wall so did the event of the Cold War. The United States built a wall called The Berlin Wall to stop the flow of refugees from East to West Berlin (Government and Politics). Not only did they both build a wall but they also had conflicts against the other union. For instance The Yooks and Zooks from The Butter Battle Book had major conflicts against each due to many Zooks eating their bread with the butter side down, in every Zook house and in every Zook town every Zook eats his bread with the butter side down (Seuss 5). The United States also had a conflict with the Soviet Union, they were both being driven by a complex interplay of ideological, political, and economic factors (Thomas). We are born as void memory children who couldn t differentiate between right and wrong. However, we were also programmed in a certain manner that tells us what we are supposed to be, or exhibit. Socialization is a main clue which is regarded as a programming utility for our personalities. Pathos was used explicitly by grabbing the emotions and feeling of the audience by the unexpected spontaneous reaction of the fiancĆ©e ( Ethos, Pathos, and Logos ), showing her real mask, when she noticed that her relationship and marriage are subjected to danger. Ethos is achieved by relying on a divorced axial character, a friend of hers. The former dependence paves the audience mind for the fact that marriage, at that environment, ceases being a divorce when problems, related to misperceiving personalities, arise among couples. The author also accounted for the left brain audience who are mainly interested in one to one events; consequently, Logos , as a persuasion mode, was used as a transition between Shalash s knowing that her relationship with Fouad would be adversely affected and her spontaneous reaction, based on her character, of the unexpected visit. To sum up, The Other Face, by Salma Shallash, managed to conduct the message, triggered by the author s exigency, through a theoretical writing model integrating both persuasion and original writing style. • 17. The Positive And Negative Impact Of Information Technology... Information Technology In My Life The millennial generation has seen more change in technological adaptations and advancements than any generation thus far. As a collective group, we have turned from the CD player, to the IPOD, to Spotify and Pandora. We have gone from viewing our favorite movies on VCR, to DVD, to watching Netflix on our laptops. We have noticed the landline, the household phone s, slow but steady irrelevance. These advancements are important and notable. However, there is something far more important than our literal technological innovations, and that is how they have affected our children and us. My youngest brother, Caleb was born in 2012. Understanding that he does not fall under the category of the millennial generation has exhibited this first hand knowledge that generations do, indeed have different attitudes, opinions, and ideas due to what they were raised with. Caleb, currently, is growing up in an era surrounded by technology. The world is at his fingertips and he is only five. Having observed this, I have noticed the positive and negative affects of growing up in a fully immersed technological age. In my life, information technology has proven its positive and negative affects in the growth and success of children. This has occurred by 1) the children of the millennial age understanding technology and how to access it at a exponentially faster than our generation, 2) our children developing a foundational dependency on technology, and 3) a ... Although the technology is still being developed, there are no future plans to implement it as well. On the other side, those who speak out against coal and clean coal are naturally groups concerned about the environment, such as the Environmental Protection Agency and green advocacy groups. Art has also helped us understand each era s beliefs and ideas. From the 400s through the early Renaissance, the majority of art in Europe was rooted in Christianity. However, beginning with the Renaissance, art has become more secular. The transforming power structure of Europe, the Scientific Revolution, and the Enlightenment have contributed to the shift which resulted in a tension between the authority of the Catholic Church and the secular European Monarchies. By looking at two arts from these era, we can see the political, intellectual, and cultural changes in Europe. 1. In The Odyssey, Homer uses the Cyclops to encapsulate values which are considered abnormal in everyday society. The beasts are culturally, politically and religiously detached from civilization. Homer describes the one eyed beasts, They have no meeting place for council, no laws either, no, up on the mountain peaks they live in arching caverns each a law to himself, ruling his wives and children, not a care in the world for any neighbor (9.125 128) In ancient greek society family and community were heavily valued, however it seems that each Cyclops wants nothing to do with the others, revealing them as cultural outsiders who wouldn t be accepted among humanity. Additionally, the brutes have no meeting place for council, no laws either. The Odyssey was written in the 8th century BC, during the beginnings of Archaic Greece. City states were the popular form of government and communal decision making started to gain value. In stark contrast to this form of politics, the Cyclops made decisions for themselves, rarely communicating with anyone but their own families. A great way to utilize this growing field of technology is to start integrating it into the classrooms of the schools. Whether that technology is applied directly to the students or for the faculty to use to teach the students it s a beneficial factor for the school and the students. A teachers job is to teach his or her students to the best of their abilities; and as technology is becoming a better way to teach students, the teachers need to accept that technology is a better way of applying the material to the student. According to some sources, he was even a creator god. Whatever godly aspect he had authority over originally were added onto, as is true for most gods and goddesses of ancient times. There, Thoth is considered to be the creator of the other gods, and therefore the world. It is said that Thoth, as an ibis, laid a cosmic egg by which the Ogdoad were born. His temple in Hermopolis is much like any other temple in Ancient Egypt: a walkway with sphinxes watching your every move, a pylon gateway that was guarded by obelisks and the statue of the pharaoh who founded the temple. Within the temple, one would find the open air court with columns all around, some reaching up to eight stories high; the inner sanctuary held the statue of the particular god worshipped at the site, which could only be accessed by the priests or the pharaoh. At the back of the temple, one might find the Chapel of the Hearing Ear , which was used by the regular people of the day. The only difference between the temples of Thoth and many of the other temples was that at his temples, there was often an ibis cult, where ibis birds were mummified after they died in order to appease the ibis headed Thoth. Ibis s were important to the god Thoth because he had the head of an ibis, and the hieroglyph for Thoth was in fact an ibis. • 43. Lord Of The Flies Ralph Character Analysis To further illustrate, in Lord of the Flies the character, Ralph, is a round and dynamic character. Ralph can be classified as this type of character because of the changes he undergoes as the story unfolds. To explain, at the beginning of the story, Ralph is confident and optimistic when himself and multiple boys crash on an island. He takes control and earns the trust if the group. Ralph conducts assemblies and his words are determined and civilized, All at once he found he could talk fluently and explain what he had to say... we want to be rescued; and of course, we shall be rescued...we must make a fire (Golding 32 38). Ralph s words and actions show his boldness to take control and his strong belief in being rescued. However, as the story continues, the system and trust Ralph establish begins to diminish, resulting in two separate groups. The one group contains Ralph and very few civilized boys, and the second group is made up Jack and the savages. Although the groups are at peace at first, multiple fights and Piggy s stolen glasses causes Ralph to partially change. This change is revealed to the readers when Ralph and Piggy go to the saves to retrieve the glasses, Truculently they squared up to each other but kept just out of fighting distance... Ralph remember what we came for. The fire. My specs (Golding 177). During this mission, the once civilized Ralph begins to fight with the savages and he acted barbaric himself. Ralph s and actions and Piggy s words show the reader how Ralph transformed the course of the book from being civilized and confident with his word; however, Ralph is now becoming a savage and loses his optimistic attitude. Ralph s shift in personality shows the reader that he is a dynamic and round character. Therefore, Ralph s character undergoes development; however, Brutus in Julius Ceaser changes in an equivalent way.
