Domino Injury
At the doctor s office, hanging on the wall, is a paper showing a pain scale of one through ten with
corresponding faces to the numbers. This scale and I have come to know each other quite well over
the years because of all the injuries I have suffered. Of all my injuries, none were more painful than
the one I suffered my junior year of high school.
On August 12, 2016, twenty minutes into the first half of a soccer game, I was running after the ball
when suddenly, a swift, powerful tug on the back of my jersey started a domino effect. Following the
tug, a foreign foot came swooping in taking out my left heel, then the movement of my shin rolling to
the left and my thigh to the right. My knee ground out of place and then, the pop, like the sound

Anthropology is defined, in the most basic terms, as the study of other cultures. This field can
subsequently be divided into more specific sects, and contain more precise defining characteristics,
but this definition is essentially all that is needed. Anthropology is a science that attempts to look at
other cultures and draw conclusions to questions that are raised while studying. An anthropologist is
someone who accepts what is presented before them and is driven by an urge to understand each
presentation as thoroughly as possible. Once the concept of anthropology is accepted, one must
identify the means of reaching the goal of this field. In the sect of social anthropology, this vehicle is

Although Malinowskis writings have been widely read and understood, they are not generally
accepted as correct. Malinwoski writes in a style of perpetuating the notion of Self and Other. His
attempts at understanding the culture he is studying may be of good intention, but he uses a
condescending, superior attitude in the process. He aims at being in touch with the natives,
(Malinoski, 8) but describes the people as savages and explains that ethnology has introduced law and
order into what seemed chaotic and freakish. It has transformed for us the sensational, wild and
unaccountable world of savages into a number of well ordered communities, governed by law,
behaving and thinking according to consistent principles (Malinowski, 9 10). He is essentially
contradicting himself, saying that he both strives to be in touch with the natives in order to give a full
understanding of their lives, while conducting his research with a superior attitude, which denies any
chances of being authentically in touch. It is this contradiction that has prompted many to use new
techniques, transgressing the rules established by Malinowski and his contemporaries.
Renato Rosaldo is one of the most highly acclaimed, contemporary anthropologists. He is also one
that has sought a new style of writing to give his ethnographic accounts. In his celebrated work, Grief

The Trial of God by Elie Wiesel
The Trial of God is a play that was written by Elie Wiesel. The play was first published in 1979. The
play was set in a feudal European settlement where three travelling Jewish artistes put God on trial to
answer for His quietness during a pogrom. It is a powerful drama with historical and especially post
Shoah concerns surrounding faith. While imprisoned in Auschwitz, Elie Wiesel witnessed a trial. It
was not unusual for prisoners to witness trials, this one would be different and very unusual. It was
unusual because of the defendant. God was on trial. God was tried for turning his back and ignoring
the Jewish people in their ultimate hour of need. God was tried in absentia. I mean how you can put
God on the witness stand is a question all in itself. There was one problem, no one was willing to take
on the role of God s attorney. God was eventually found guilty. After the verdict was announced, the
court prayed. How is that for an oxymoron? But this incident, which served as the inspiration for The
Trial of God, is part of the long Jewish tradition of arguing with God. Elie Wiesel was born in 1928 in
Transylvania, which is now Romania. He and his family were deported by the Nazi s in 1943 to the
most notorious concentration camp of all time, Auschwitz. He regained his freedom in 1945 when the
camp he was at, he was transferred to Buchenwald with his father, was liberated by the allies. After
the war, Elie studied writing and became a journalist in Paris. It was

The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission
The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission, also known as the TRC, was formed to help
the nation deal with the horrific events that occurred under apartheid. It served many purposes
including: to allow individuals to find out the truth of crimes committed during the time period, grant
amnesty from the government for individuals who confessed the whole truth, and to allow the country
as a whole to reconcile and forgive all who contributed to apartheid. These TRC trials were aired
nationwide on television. It created a safe ground for citizens to voice the accounts of violence
unleashed on them by the government and an opportunity for perpetrators to come forward. The
reconciliation of South Africa was achieved by the formalized process of the TRC, with the goal of
restoration.
The Gugulethu trial is a prime example of how forgiveness among individuals may be possible. As
seen in the courtroom screening scene of the hysterical mothers of the victims, these trials could be
very emotional for the families of the victims. Seven young men accused of being hostile terrorists
were gunned down by police officers. The explanation for the orders for shooting the young men were
because they appeared as threats to police as they attempted to arrest the men. When Mbelo confronts
the families, the mother s of the seven men initially reject his apology. However by the end of the
confrontation, one of the victim s son tells Mbelo that he forgives him. Christopher Mxinwa s

Schism Between Sunni And Shiite Caliph

The dispute over the succession of Muhammad led to the battle of Jamal and battle of Siffin . When
this happened it caused civil war across Islam and led to the death of Hussein bin ali. The Shiites
believed that the successor of the prophet Muhammad should stay within his family bloodline . This
led to an argument between the Sunni and Shiites that caused a split between the the Sunni and Shiite.
The Sunni believed that the leadership role should be given to someone chosen by the upper class
people of the Islamic culture. By this happening it led to an argument between the Sunni and Shiite
that eventually led to the Sunni and Shiite schism. The Sunni prevailed and were able to choose the
first caliph after the prophet Muhammad. When this happened it told the Shiites that the Sunni had
more power that then them and that they needed to fight back if they wanted their way. The battle
between the two groups split them into two peoples that would never reunite with each other. By this

Similarities Between Rowlandson And Tekakwitha
There are many similarities and differences to compare and contrast between the women who were
subject of the captivity narratives. When comparing religion, gender and status, there are similarities,
but digging deeper there are many differences between Kateri Tekakwitha and Mary Rowlandson s
narratives. On the surface, the similarities are easier to identify, but underneath is where the
differences are and the biggest contrast between Rowlandson and Tekakwitha is religion. The most
distinct difference between the Rowlandson and Tekakwitha, that also could be interpreted as a
similarity, is religion. Kateri Tekakwitha and Mary Rowlandson were both exposed to the Bible and
Catholicism. They both devoted time to God and religion, the only difference

The Term Loan represents 85% of the capital structure. A Project backed by a long term EPA with a
strong investment grade off taker somewhat mitigate the risk.
The Term Loan amortization over the initial tenor of the loan is seven years and the expected balloon
at the end of the initial term (2025) is about C$176.5 million or US$132.7 million, hence introducing
the refinancing risk.
The remaining EPA term of 23 years at the end of the initial tenor of the Term Loan makes the
refinancing of the balloon payment likely. The Analyst notes that if no refinancing is available, the
balloon payment at the end of the initial term of the loan will be fully repaid two years prior to the
EPA expiry in 2048, under the conservative P99 scenario, and solely based on contracted cash flows.
The risk designation of Neutral/Standard reflects the EPA tail supporting refinancing at the end of the

Hidden Figures And Bend It Like Beckham
How is the theme of perseverance in Hidden figures and Bend it like Beckham used to influence
viewers and how are cinematic techniques applied to achieve this? Through the use of cinematic
techniques, Hidden figures, a movie directed by Theodore Melfi and Bend it like Beckham by
Gurinder Chadha both explore the dangers that are inherent in a marginalised society. Each texts
demonstrates that hope for change is needed in society as hope can build the momentum for an
individual to strive. Through these texts we see that people have no conscience about harming others

Private Interests and Social Welfare
The human civilisation is composed of innumerable individuals, countless interest groups and social
strata, with each of them following the fundamental instinct striving to maximise their own well being
by obtaining as many benefits as they can and averting as much cost as possible. Unfortunately for
humankind, for one to improve one s life, competing with others is unavoidable. Competitions, by
definition, means the winners get something at the expense of others. The good news is that
competition among people is not a constant sum game, that is to say, theoretically, if we can reallocate
resources, rights and duties in a certain way, the humankind may benefit maximally. In the most ideal
case, the self interest of each individual and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Book II, Chapter VII, para. 44)
Different from Huang s idea that the emperor is still superior, Rousseau s theory about politics
assumes there is an ever righteous General Will. Rousseau s solution to the problem is based on this
belief. He argues that the General Will is the only binding force that can be exerted on the individuals,
so a law bill drawn by a however intelligent legislator, which is a particular will of an individual
cannot become law before being authorised by the sovereignty. (Book II, Chapter VII, para. 47) The
separation of power of drawing a law bill and legislation will therefore prevent the self interest of the
legislator impeding the collective welfare. Because General Will is the aggregation of many individual
wills, it is possible to verify if a law bill proposed is in line with the General Will by consulting the
citizens opinions, e.g. by free vote. When law bills are widely supported and scrutinised by the
citizens, one can be assured that the social welfare is not impeded by the legislators private interest. #
Discussions
I believe Huang s proposal is a great advancement in China s political history, for the pioneering idea
that the emperor s performance should be scrutinised thoroughly is raised. However, I cannot persuade
myself to fully trust such a system, in which one may spot a number of weaknesses.
Firstly, the school is merely an advisory body, rather than a body that

Reflection Paper: Maria Full of Grace
Washington Irving said once, There is in every true woman s heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies
dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark
hour of adversity [1] which I feel describes the main character of Maria in the movie Maria Full of
Grace (MFG); Maria lives in Columbia and due to her financial situation becomes a drug mule for
money all the while pregnant at the age of seventeen. In the movie, Maria struggles with the rationale
of staying true to herself of being good person and doing the right thing while still wanting to make

In the movie MFG, the audience is shown that Maria knew she was pregnant prior to becoming a drug
mule, some say that this illustrates her lack of maturity, lack of judgment and lack of responsibility by
risking the health of her unborn child; however, others view it as part of her survival and resiliency
managing her personal and family issues problems first over her own well being. In my opinion I feel
that she is a little bit of both: reckless and responsible at the same time. Reckless in the sense that she
knew she was pregnant, didn t think about her own health, the idea that she may die from doing this if
he crack packet opens in her stomach or the idea of killing or harming her unborn child. On the flip
side, she was thinking about her mother working tirelessly long hours, her sister needing money for
her son who was sick and her grandmothers needs and she wasn t thinking about herself which shows
she s very responsible and cares about her family situation. Like many people Maria s life is
complicated with thoughts about her family s well being first and her life and needs second. A term
coined by Bacallao Smokowski (2007) called familism [which] involves a deeply ingrained sense of
the individual being inextricably rooted in the family. The term encompasses attitudes, behaviors, and
family structures within an extended family

Feminism In Shirley Jackson s We Have Always Lived In The...
The author G.D Anderson once said that Feminism isn t about making women strong. Women are
already strong. It s about changing the way the world perceives that strength. Throughout all of
documented human history, patriarchal values and beliefs have been a dominant factor in society,
literature, and culture. Forever seen as inferior, the strength that women truly have has had to hide
behind the thought that a man is necessary for anything to succeed. Shirley Jackson is the author of the
gothic novel We Have Always Lived in The Castle; a story about a young girl and her sister, who are
both absolutely despised and ostracized from the people who live in the village around them. The two
Blackwood sisters could not be more different in both personality and values, but in the novel We
Have Always Lived in the Castle, Jackson uses her platform to express how even the most contrasting
natures of femininity are able to come together to be self sufficient despite opposition and aggression
from male figures.
Mary Katherine represents is a wild and youthful girl that Jonathan Lethem describes as an expulsive
iconoclast (Lethem ix). She clearly has the simple mind and thoughts of a child, but that youth is
darkly complemented with the demented inner thoughts of a cold blooded killer. Several times
throughout the novel, she envisions the village burning and the people around her dying; Helen Clarke
is one of those people. Helen is an old friend of the Blackwood family, and one of

Although the government tried to hide such a big project, it wouldn t stay a secret for long. Those

of the biggest secrets in American history led to the discovery of the atomic bomb and revolutionized

All the other inhabitants were comfortable; I however, swam in unfamiliar water. It was salty and I
was a fresh water fish.
But actually, this circumstance of being thrown into a new country and then being flung into schooling
was a blessing in disguise. Though admitting this then would have been out of the question, while
learning English, I became literate. The saying you don t learn how to swim until you are drowning
applies genuinely to my circumstance. In Brazil, English is a part of the curriculum. I would have
studied it all throughout grade school, but never retained any of it for lack of practice. Here, in the
United States, I learned it because I had no other choice.
I remember reciting things, that in my mind, were perfectly correct. But because of the different
structures of the languages, my phrasing was often incorrect. My father once said to a childhood
friend, Do you understand everything she says? April, my friend, told him she did. Since my father
understood the language, he knew the inaccuracy of the things I said. So, in response, he asked her if
the things I said were right. April replied, No, but I understand her. Because April and I were about the
same age, and we shared a carefree attitude, she allowed me to practice English. Only a few years
stood between April and me. She was in the fifth grade when I was in the third. But this age difference
never interfered with our unity. It s difficult to grasp why she and I

Parenthood Is Affordable, The United States Department Of...
Many men and women in America don t have insurance or simply cannot afford health care. Planned
Parenthood does have professional doctors who specialized in many reproductive health services.
Planned Parenthood is affordable, the program takes a patient whether they have insurance or not, not
only that, they charge you by how much income you make. Low income Americans have access to
these services too. The United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare, for example,
created a federal program to provide poor, married women with birth control. (Alan Guttmacher
Institute) One in five American women have used the group s services, and three out of four of its

Texas is one of the states that cut funds for Planned Parenthood. After Texas defunded the clinic, a
survey of 300 pregnant women who were seeking abortions in Texas said that they were unable to
access the birth control that they wanted to use in the three months before pregnancy. (Amanda J.
Stevenson).
According to the article, Political Attacks on Planned Parenthood Are a Threat to Women s Health for
some people, Planned Parenthood has come to symbolize abortion, which it has provided since 1970.
But in all the rhetoric, facts have sometimes gone missing. For example, Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona
declared on the floor of the Senate that abortion accounts for well over 90 percent of what Planned
Parenthood does. That figure is actually 3 percent. Planned Parenthood clinics perform one in four
abortions in the U.S. but use no federal funds for this practice. To some abortion opponents, that 3
percent is reason enough to gut the organization. If a future Congress and White House were to do so,
however, it would drive women once again into the back alleys, without necessarily decreasing the
number of abortions. Stripping Planned Parenthood of federal funding would also sacrifice the 97
percent of its public health work that has nothing to do with abortion, from which many people benefit
directly. One in five American women have used the group s services, and three out of four

Chillingworth s unconscious mind he is driven by hatred for Dimmesdale and the fact he still

Trading Up: Where do Baby Names Come From? The position of this article is that parents give their
kids names that they think will make them successful. Trends in baby names start with the high
income families and spread to the lower income families. 1. There are many sources for names. A
couple examples of names sources are the Bible names, nostalgic names, and place names. Parents
want to give their kids the best chance in life with a successful name. 2. Names move through the
population. Sarah was the only name to stay in the top 10 white California girl names from 1980 to
2000. The popular names of high income families became the overall popular names in 10 years.

The overall message of this essay is that baby names start with the high income families and work
their way through society to the low income families because parents want their kids to be successful.
For example, the article states Once a name catches on among high income, highly educated parents, it
starts working its way down the socioeconomic ladder. Kids names in successful high income families
become popular because lower income families think naming their baby after what successful families
are naming their children will make them similarly successful. Furthermore the essay asserts They are
all trying to signal something with a name, and an overwhelming number of parents are seemingly
trying to signal their own expectations of how successful they hope their children will be. The name
itself isn t likely to make a shred of difference. But the parents may feel better knowing that, from the
very onset, they tried their best. The message of this article is that parents hope by giving their kids
successful sounding names they will have a better chance in life. This results in names trending from
the high income families to the low income

Abstract This paper presents an efficient and reliable evolutionary based approach to solve the optimal
power flow(OPF) problem. The proposed approach employs differential evolution algorithm for
optimal settings of control variables. The proposed approach is examined and tested on the standard
IEEE 30 bus test system with fuel cost minimization as objective. The proposed approach results are
compared with the results reported in the literature. The results show the effectiveness and robustness
of the proposed approach.

I. INTRODUCTION
In the past two decades, the problem of optimal power flow (OPF) has received much attention. It is
of current interest of many utilities and it has been marked as one of the most operational needs. The
OPF problem solution aims to optimize a selected objective function via optimal adjustment of the
power system control variables, while at the same time satisfying various equality and inequality
constraints.
Because the optimal power flow problem is

Essay on Eastboro Analysis
1. In theory, to fund an increased dividend payout or a stock buyback, a firm might invest less, borrow
more, or issue more stock. Which of these three elements is Eastboro management willing to vary, and
which elements remain fixed as a matter of policy?
Management is willing to vary their investment (investing less) as well as issue more stock. This is not
against their policy. But the management would not be willing to borrow more as their borrowing
policy is limited to 40% debt to equity ratio.

3. How might Eastboro s various providers of capital, such as stockholders and creditors, react if
Eastboro declares a dividend in 2001?
If Eastboro declares a dividend in 2001, it will have to take debt to raise the money required for the
dividend. The creditors will not react positively with this decision because the money is not being
used in the increasing the value of the company. On the other hand, the stockholders will react
positively as the dividend payout reflects confidence of managers in the future earnings of the
company and also gives the stock holders flexibility to invest their dividend earnings in other
companies .
4. What are the arguments for and against the zero payout, 40 percent payout, and residual payout
policies? What should Jennifer Campbell recommend to the board of directors with regard to a long

The Importance Of Homeostasis And A State Of Equilibrium...
All living things strive towards one goal: homeostasis. Homeostasis is a state of equilibrium reached
through physiological processes. In order to maintain homeostasis, living things use cells, tissues,
organs, and organ systems to counteract physical changes. Using a variety of different tissues, organs
are formed to accomplish specific tasks. The four main types of tissues are epithelial tissue,
connective tissue, muscular tissue, and nervous tissue. Several sublevels exist for each type of tissue.
Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces and lines body cavities. The three main kinds of Epithelial
tissue are squamous which is composed of flat cells, cuboidal, which is composed of cube shaped
cells, and columnar which is composed of stretched, pillar like cells. Each type of epithelial tissue can
be either simple or stratified. Simple is one layer of cells, while stratified has more than one layer.
Each type can also be glandular. Glands can be either one epithelial cell or multiple cells. Its purpose
is to secrete products into different parts of the body or outside of the body. Exocrine glands secrete
their products into ducts or directly into a tube/cavity. Endocrine glands secrete their products directly
into the bloodstream. Examples of epithelial tissue are the linings of lungs, kidneys, small intestine,
and the nose. A common trait that all epithelial tissue have is that they are attached to the basement
membrane, a thin layer of proteins that anchors to connective

Loss Of Life Exposed In Endymion By John Keats
Of all the great poets of the early nineteenth century, John Keats (1795 1821) was the last to be born
and first to die. Born in London, England, on October 31, 1795, to a poor stable keeper, John Keats
devoted his short life to the perfection of poetry marked by intense imagery, great sensuous appeal and
an attempt to express a philosophy through classical legend. Although he was brought up amid
surroundings and influences by no means calculated to awaken poetic genius. Rendered an orphan at
the tender age of eight, his father s death had a deep rooted effect on the young boy s life. In a more
metaphysical sense, it shaped his understanding of the human condition, both its suffering and its loss.

Peter Paul Rubens Dichotomy
Peter Paul Rubens is known as one of the great artists of the Baroque period. Notorious for his
paintings of religious scenes, mythology, and portraits, his style is easily recognizable through his
portrayal of large, pale, nude women (Johnson 144, 145). In his painting, Diana and Her Nymphs
Departing for the Hunt, Rubens positions Diana, a goddess in Roman mythology, at the forefront of
the piece partially topless, reflecting her fertility and sexuality; meanwhile in the background a
confrontation between a nymph and satyr display the conflict between nakedness and nudity, male and
female, and obscene and control. Diana is the Roman goddess of the moon, the hunt, childbearing, and
chastity. According to the Cleveland Museum of Art, different ... Show more content on

In the article, Erotic Ambiguities: The Female Nude in Art, Helen McDonald, graduate of fine arts at
University of Melbourne, argues that the difference between nude and naked can be simplified to the
difference between privilege form over matter, male over female, and art over obscenity (McDonald
61). In order for the naked body to survive as art, Rubens must discipline and regulate the body
(McDonald 61). In the painting, Diana and her nymphs are nude as opposed to naked because they are
bounded by clothes and their body movements seem controlled. However, the satyr is naked instead of
nude because his motions appear erratic and forceful, not within bounds, and the nymph is trying to
control him. Diana, the goddess of the hunt, epitomizes control in the photo not just through her body
language but because she has the power to tame wild animals, which is illustrated with her interaction
with the dogs in the painting. Additionally, Nicole Sault in The Savage Body claims that a savage can
be distinguished through his nakedness and that savages are typically portrayed as males until they
have been controlled, in which they are depicted as female (Sault 4). The male satyr is a clear
representation of a savage through his bare, partially animalistic body, while Diana is noticeably calm
and composed. The

Essay on How Asian Americans are Portrayed in Hollywood...
Asian American actors and actresses are portrayed in Hollywood movies as always being the silent
and yielding foreign victims to social injustice and prejudice. Whether or not these depictions are true,
they are nonetheless stereotypes that Hollywood producers have come up with. According to the US
Census in the year 2000, Asian Americans make up 4.2% of the entire American population, and
knowing that most Asian Americans live on the west and east coast of the United States, many
Americans living in central parts of this country have not really been exposed to any Asian Americans.

His men get defeated by other white gangs which clearly shows that Hollywood wants you to think
that Asians are inferior to white people. In Richard Fung s analysis on Sally s Beauty Spot, The fact
that Sally never kisses an Asian unfortunately reflects the absence of Asian men from Western sexual
representation (Fung 169). Asian actors rarely get to be involved in on screen romantic relationships
with their co star Asian actresses because Hollywood does not believe Asian men are capable of being
sexual. They would rather have them doing fighting scenes or even playing nerdy roles than to allow
them to do romantic scenes. Similarly, in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, only Bond is
involved in a relationship with the Asian female character played by Michelle Yeoh. And majority of
the time in most films, Asian actors and actresses are instructed to speak with an Asian accident and in
broken English. Likewise for Asian actresses, they have been pictured as exotic, highly sexual, overly
feminine, and eager to please women capable of easily falling in love with white men. But what
Hollywood really fails to portray about Asian women in Asia is that they are prostitutes trying to make
a living to put food on the table for their families. People do not realize that these Asian women come
from poverty and did not receive the same education as American women. These Asian women are not

The Delivery On Mother Request
Caesarean Delivery on Mother Request
University of Mary
Fall 2016
Jennifer Escher
Caesarean Delivery upon request it is defined as a primary pre labor delivery on the request of the
mother in the absence of any maternal or fetal indications. Risks that are potential with a maternal
requested delivery will explain that hospital stay is longer, increased risk with respiratory issues with
mother and infant, and greater complications for the maternal with other pregnancies. Those
complications can include rupture of the uterus, implantation problems with next pregnancy and the
need for hysterectomy due to complications of prior caesarean. Potential benefits from a planned
caesarean can include decrease in complications from birth, decrease in the risk of hemorrhage and
transfusions from blood lost. Fewer complications from surgery and the fetal outcome from
respiratory complications is decreased. According to The American College of Obstetrics and
Gynecologists The belief that the absence of maternal and fetal indications for caesarean delivery, a
planned delivery is safe and appropriate and should be recommended to patients, delivery should not
be performed before a gestational age of 39 weeks . (2013). The ability of maternal requested should
not be available or recommended unless there is complication or effective pain management. This is
also not recommended for maternal that want to have more children. The risks outweighs the benefits

an occasion involving violence directed at property, persons or authority. The current understanding of
the term riot dates back to the fourteenth century, when it began to suggest violence and disorder

Christian Worldview And The Secular Worldview Of Account
To compare the Christian worldview to the secular worldview of account, one must understand the

turn form our perceptions of reality. They are visions of life as well as ways of life, are individual and
personal, yet bind adherents together communally (p. 1). It is not uncommon for individuals to have

Here the only thing that matters is a man. Within secular philosophy individuals only trust the
scientific method to know anything. So basically, if something can t be observed, tested, or
experimented, then it does not exist. This is why there is no room for spirituality because it can t be

standards and values. Humans depend on science, reason, and a historical experience to figure out

Large Scale Centralized Governments During The Sixth...
Large scale centralized governments in Europe that were thriving during the ninth century found
themselves deteriorating in the tenth and even eleventh century. Empires no longer had a tight grip on
those who inhabited the land. Notably, each sector and individual empire of Europe experienced this
loss of control differently. Many of the empires in western Europe, like the Carolingian empire,
experienced fragmentation and a lack of unification as locals of influential families began to take rule.
With these local rulers, the borders of each empire vanished or became a blur. To illustrate, regions as
small as a few square miles were under the control of various lords who in their right, acted as
independent rulers (SH p.128). Even to the east, the Byzantines experienced a lack of control as the
wealthy Dalasseni family could defy the emperor and also form rebellions against him (SH. 117).
Adding to this fragmentation, Europe experienced detrimental invasions from the Vikings, Muslims,
and the Magyars (Hungarians). Due to this division, Europe as a whole became multi ethnic and
multilingual. Because of this overall disintegration of peoples, existing rulers became heavily
dependent upon vassals; individuals who voluntarily made a public bond with a commanding lord.
Lords at the time did not have an abundance of people to whom they could trust and carry out their
dealings. The feudal system of lords and vassals as revealed in Love and Complaints in Angouleme,

Fluellen notifies Henry that he shall soon to be hanged for robbing a church. The reason for this for

In Donald Hedrick s essay War is Mud: Branagh s Dirty Harry V and the Types of Political Ambiguity
he is upset with the way politics is read in film. His reaction was generated from an essay written by
Elayne Tobin in which he finds her to be disillusioned. He believes she became disillusioned by the
film community always trying to say film exposes some bad faith, and Hedrick is hesitant to so
strongly believe Hollywood is really trying to represent the agendas of the film community. As an
example of how a film can be read for political ideas he examines Kenneth Branagh s Henry V. In the
first section Mud he looks at the use of and prevalence of dirt. He claims it has more of a function than
just making King Henry look like a tactical genius for defeating the heavily armored French on a
swampy muddy field. He believes Branagh s use of dirt makes the film darker and the darkness
harkens to the character of the real Henry V. He goes on to explain how he his ruthlessness at the
Battle of Agincourt. His ruthlessness has been looked at as being a ruthless emotional act or that it
could have been a strategy for the outnumbered English. The mud calls into question the character of
the King. In American Clean he examines what kind of character King Henry is in Branagh s version.
He established he is the genuinely holy man with the capacity to be ruthless. The dirt is used to

This indicated that cars are for boys and thus shouldn t be what peaks girls interest. The gender neutral

They consisted of puzzles and board games for the most part. The colors were a wide range and if
there were pictures there would usually be both boys and girls playing together. By looking through
each aisle, I was able to determine what toys were presented for each age specific gender. The infant
and toddler toys started off with not much difference and were gender neutral for the most part. They
were even in the same aisle. The toys were generally plush animals, entertainment puzzles, and simple
objects. As the ages moved up to pre school there was more difference in what toys were for boys and
what toys were for girls. The toys for boys were more vehicles while the girl toys were more play
scenarios. This fit the description given in the textbook that, by the time they are 12 to 18 months old,
girls prefer...dolls, cooking sets, dress up clothes, and soft toys, whereas boys choose vehicles, sports
equipment, and tools (Etaugh Bridges p 77). Though the toys were varied, they still remained in the

Theoretical Approaches To Personality Analysis
While reading through chapter eleven of my psychology textbook, I discovered that the four main
theoretical approaches to personality include the psychodymanic approach, the triat approach, the
social congnitive approach, and lastly, the humanistic psychology approach. The first theory the book
establishes is the psychodymanic apporach, also known as Frued s Theory, states that a person s
personality is not due to a specific set of factors but rather that personality is determined by many
factors such as a human s drives for food, sex, aggression, ect., as well as a person s unconscious
processes, and a person s early childhood influences, most specifically a person s parents or gaurdians.
The psychodynamic apporoach states that personality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This scale, like many others, described my personality on what traits I self described myself as being.
After the conclusion of the personality test, the test described myslef as being a people person, an
open person, and a generally positive person. The test also depicted my weakness as being to talkitive
and too permissive, and my limitation as being failing to follow through on past commitments and
failure with self disipline. I also scored almost equally on the lion personlity which means that while I
am mostly an otter I also have very developed skills in leading. The trait theory, I believe, is the easist
way of desribing a person s personality because you do not have to look into a person s past to
determine why a person s personaity is the way it is but rather the trait view just observes a person s
personality. The trait theory though falls though because it does not expain why people act the way
they do or why they have prejudices. The social cognitive approach argues that a person s persoanity
is learned whether than inherit our personaities. This follows through with some ideas in gender
theory stating that a person s gender traits are also learned by society than inherited. This also releates
to Frued s theory of parent involvment in a human s personality because a person s parents will be
most around a child generally in that child s early development which allows for that child to
generally delevop the traits of their parents and then hold on to those traits throughout their

Essay on Hunger
Unrelenting Hunger Hunger , by Lan Samantha Chang, is a cautionary tale of an immigrant Chinese
family in this complex story about unrelenting hunger, oppression, love and loss. Narrated by Min; the
deeply unhappy and obedient wife of Tian, a gifted violinist, finds work as a music teacher in New
York, but ultimately fails to land a permanent job at the school. Driven by personal failure and his
unrelenting hunger for the violin Tian cruelly forces his two daughters, Anna and Ruth to play the
violin, so they can follow in his footsteps. Tian s inability to separate himself from his violin ends up
destroying his family. Chang uses Tian s obsessive hunger for the violin as a symbol of his identity,
showing us that we must be careful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this sacrifice he sees his violin as his main identity; he is a violinist, and he must honor
that at all costs. He can t allow himself to enjoy anything else in life for fear that he sacrificed
everything for nothing. The great irony here is that this all consuming obsession with the violin leaves
him bereft of any time or desire to spend time with his wife and children, unless it involves the violin,
which ultimately causes them to reject him too. When Tian s own dream dies he ruthlessly pushes
music on his daughters in order to allow him to live vicariously through them. Anna, the oldest, tries
to win her father s love through the violin but ends up having a mediocre sense of pitch (54) and Tian
can no longer stand to teach Anna the violin. Min notices when he looked at Anna he saw nothing but
his own struggles; he hated her difficulties, but he especially hated his own. (55); this immense self
hatred, and lack of an identity outside of the violin, causes him to viciously force Ruth to become a
violinist. Despite her lack of interest and the fact that she cries during every practice, Tian does not
care as he sees promise in her. He yells at Ruth Do you understand? From now on, you work. You
practice every day (60) to which Ruth responds No no no no (60). It does not seem to matter to Tian
that his daughter has no real desire to play the

The Crux Research Paper
The Crux is more commonly known as the Southern Cross, its name being Latin for cross. Although it
was seen by the Ancient Greeks, it was known to be part of the constellation Centaurus. The stars that
make up the cross are: Alpha Crucis, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon. Quite a few of the
constellation s brighter stars are also members of the Centaurus / Scorpios association. The reason I
chose this constellation is because of its significance to my country. The Southern Cross is on the
national flag, and I have always wondered about the legends and reasons behind this constellation.
This constellation was, as mentioned above, part of Centaurus, so there was no traditional myth about
its creation. However, Crux was not separated as a singular constellation until 1516, by Italian
explorer Andreas Corsali. Quite derivatively, the Southern Cross (Crux) was named for its shape, and
the hemisphere that can see it. The Ancient Greeks once were able to see it, but over time it
disappeared over the horizon, so now the southern hemisphere can see it. ... Show more content on

The man lived in a lonely, barren country, with only the wild beasts to keep him company. The man,
sick of chasing after all the wildebeest and other animals for food, with only his spear to help him
hunt, sat down under a tree. As he looked up into the branches, he noticed the boughs of the tree, and
realised that this material could help him make a tool to hunt with. Man, filled with renewed energy,
set to work carving a cross, using a stone tool to help him shape the wood. A few work filled hours
later, Man held the wooden cross up to the moonlight. He spied a lone beast grazing in the grass a
short distance away. Man held up the cross, and threw with all his might. The wooden cross, spinning
and whirling, hit the beast squarely on the head, knocking it dead. Man made a loud whooping sound.

In this method, it is an obligation to complete the project within the contract period, however, the
client may accept a later date to account for delays resulting from reasons listed in the contract.
In Design and Build Method, the contractor is responsible for undertaking both the design and
construction of the work in return for a lump sum price. To arrive at a choice of contractor, contractors
are required to develop a design (from an initial concept prepared by the consultant appointed to
advice the client) to a certain level, prepare a tender figure and submit the whole package which is
termed a proposal to be evaluated to meet the satisfaction of the client. A team of consultants will be
needed to assess each contractor s proposal. Evaluation of tenders in this case is usually difficult
because the contractors are not working with one design. Tenderers should be informed of the criteria
to be used, and whether price is likely to be a prime factor (Nwachukwu,

General Overview of Alzheimer s
Alzheimers was first named after Dr. Alois Alzheimer. In 1906, Dr. Alzheimer first noticed changes in
the brain tissue of a woman who had died of an unusual mental disease. He saw dramatic shrinkage
and abnormal deposits in and around nerve cells.
Alzheimer s affects the brain.
Alzheimer s causes degeneration of brain tissue and nerve cells. With less nerve cells present, it
becomes harder for the brain to communicate with the body and function properly.
Alzheimer s has two main types: Early onset and late onset. Early onset is rare and affects ages
younger than 65. Early onset also affects 5% of the population. Late onset is the most common and
occurs in ages 65 and older.

Charlie Gordon s Life In Flowers For Algernon By Daniel Keyes
Could you imagine what it would be like to become what you ve always wanted to be? Or to have
your I.Q be tripled? In the Science Fiction story, Flowers for Algernon written by Daniel Keyes, a 37
year old man named Charlie Gordon, whose mind is impaired, undergoes a surgery to triple his I.Q.
After the surgery, Charlie Gordon s life became much better for him. Charlie was able to make true
friends, along with that he felt emotions, but most importantly, he was able to see the world through a

Critics argue that Charlie shouldn t have gotten the A.I surgery because he regressed more than his
normal I.Q of 68. Nevertheless, Charlie was very happy to have contributed to science and doesn t
regret a thing about it. In a letter Charlie wrote, Yet for sake of science I am grateful for the little bit
that I here to add to the knowledge of the human mind and of the laws governing the artificial increase
of human intelligence (Keyes 239). In addition to that Charlie now is more knowledgeable of the
world around him. I have reread my progress reports and seen the illiteracy, the childish naivete, the
mind of a low intelligence peering from a dark room, through the keyhole, at a dazzling light outside
(Keyes 237). This evidence proves that Charlie s life became substantially better after the surgery.
Tripling Charlie s I.Q through the means of Artificial Intelligence drastically changed his life in a very
positive way. Charlie was able to make true friends. Secondly, Charlie got to see what it was like to
have emotions. Finally, Charlie was able to see the world in a completely different perspective. How

Is Ethics Promoted By Human Resource Management Affects...
The purpose of this paper is to examine the manner in which ethics promoted by human resource
management affects the operations of an organization. The human resource management is responsible
for implementing the accepted behavior of the stakeholders to ensure that the company runs smoothly.
The company is dependent on the human resource in maintaining and promoting ethical behaviors as
it has the responsibility of educating, training and communicating the behavior of the stakeholders.
This paper clarifies the manner in which the human resource management engages in various
operative activities for instance protecting the company from infringing the set laws and regulations
through practicing unethical behaviors. It is very easy for the human resource management to
implement a code of ethics through the established policies of the company that establishes the ethical
behavior and helps in governing the daily activities of the organization. It is evident that promoting
ethics yields more benefits to the organization as for instance the employees are motivated thereby
increasing the productivity of the company.
The theoretical consideration on ethics in business focuses on the ecological as well as social
responsibilities of a company within a community as ethics are regarded an important aspect in the
external self presentation and the perception of the organization in economic terms (Köster, 2002).
The relationship between human resource management and ethics has been

The Iraqi Kurds
On September 25, almost 93 percent of Kurds voted for independence from Iraq in a nonbinding
referendum. The central government in Baghdad declared the referendum unconstitutional and
demanded that Kurdish leaders reject it. Worried that independence for Iraqi Kurds would stir up their
own Kurdish populations, Turkey threatened to impose sanctions or even use military force on the
Kurds; Iran closed its border with Kurdistan and is backing Shia militias who fought with the Iraqi
army against the peshmerga. Regional actors worried about their own stability were not the only ones
to condemn the Kurds. Prior to the referendum, the United States pushed Kurdish leaders to delay the
vote lest it distract from the more urgent task of defeating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Iraqi government crushed the rebels, inflicting over 100,000 deaths on the Kurdish people. In
1988, the regime systematically murdered as many as 182,000 Kurds and razed at least 4,000 Kurdish
villages to the ground in a what was clearly a genocide. Following the 1991 Gulf War, when Saddam
Hussein was viciously persecuting Kurdish and Shi a populations, the United States instituted a no fly
zone to protect the Kurds, but provided no further help to liberate them from the government that had
slaughtered them en masse.
Following the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, the Kurds emerged as an instrumental partner for stability
and moderation; the US leaned heavily on their support. Under the new Iraqi constitution, the Kurds
gained autonomy, though the exact geography of Iraqi Kurdistan remained undefined, as both the
Kurds and the central government claimed the right to control regions such as Kirkuk. Later, with the
rise of the Islamic State, the Kurds became a primary force fighting the Islamic State, and a key US
partner in the struggle to eradicate the terror group.
Rather than betray the Kurds once again, the United States should stand by one of the best allies it has
in the Middle East. Not only do the Kurds deserve a shot at self determination, but backing up the
Kurds will allow the United States

Loss Of Chance Is An Alternative Cause Of Action
Loss of chance is identified as an alternative cause of action , particularly, in cases of medical
negligence. In recent cases, where actions based on causation have failed, it has succeeded. The onus
lies on the plaintiff to prove negligence by the defendant and loss of a chance of a better outcome.
However, a plaintiff cannot establish that the defendant s negligence probably caused their injury. The
concept of loss of chance is defined as a doctrine that permits the recovery of damages upon
destruction or reduction of prospects to ultimately achieve a more favorable outcome. In the case of
Rufo v Hosking, the court found that In order to recover damages for the loss of a chance of a better
outcome, the plaintiff is required to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, provided negligence is found, more than a one percent (1%) chance of a better outcome
needs to be proven by a plaintiff in order to be awarded damages. However, the quantification of
damages is related to the quantification of the loss of chance in relation to the injury. The value of the
injury could be a small or a large fraction of the amount.
Most recently courts have established the loss of chance doctrine as an alternative or additional cause
of action in medical negligence litigation. Although loss of chance had earlier been recognised in the
High Court of Australia as an suitable cause of action in non medical cases of negligence as well, in
the matter of Sellars v Adelaide Petroleum NL, and had been considered but not implemented in the
medical cases of Chappel v Hart, and Naxakis v Western General Hospital, it was a major factor in the
New South Wales medical case of Rufo v Hosking. Subsequently, the loss of chance has been the basis
of several other successful cases of negligence against doctors or health authorities in New South
Wales, including Halverson v Dobler, State of New South Wales v Burton, and Tabet v Mansour. It
was also successful in the matter of Gavalas v Singh.
In contrast, the concept of loss of chance was rejected in the case of Gregg v Scott, and has not yet
been reconsidered by the High Court. Despite the fact that this case has no authority in Australia, the

This scale and I have come to know each other quite well over the years because of all the injuries I have suffered. Of all my injuries, none were more painful than the one I suffered my junior year of high school. On August 12, 2016, twenty minutes into the first half of a soccer game, I was running after the ball when suddenly, a swift, powerful tug on the back of my jersey started a domino effect. Following the tug, a foreign foot came swooping in taking out my left heel, then the movement of my shin rolling to the left and my thigh to the right. This field can subsequently be divided into more specific sects, and contain more precise defining characteristics, but this definition is essentially all that is needed. Anthropology is a science that attempts to look at other cultures and draw conclusions to questions that are raised while studying. An anthropologist is someone who accepts what is presented before them and is driven by an urge to understand each presentation as thoroughly as possible. Once the concept of anthropology is accepted, one must identify the means of reaching the goal of this field. In the sect of social anthropology, this vehicle is known as ... Malinwoski writes in a style of perpetuating the notion of Self and Other. His attempts at understanding the culture he is studying may be of good intention, but he uses a condescending, superior attitude in the process. He aims at being in touch with the natives, (Malinoski, 8) but describes the people as savages and explains that ethnology has introduced law and order into what seemed chaotic and freakish. It has transformed for us the sensational, wild and unaccountable world of savages into a number of well ordered communities, governed by law, behaving and thinking according to consistent principles (Malinowski, 9 10). He is essentially contradicting himself, saying that he both strives to be in touch with the natives in order to give a full understanding of their lives, while conducting his research with a superior attitude, which denies any chances of being authentically in touch. It is this contradiction that has prompted many to use new techniques, transgressing the rules established by Malinowski and his contemporaries. • 4. The Trial of God by Elie Wiesel The Trial of God is a play that was written by Elie Wiesel. The play was first published in 1979. The play was set in a feudal European settlement where three travelling Jewish artistes put God on trial to answer for His quietness during a pogrom. It is a powerful drama with historical and especially post Shoah concerns surrounding faith. While imprisoned in Auschwitz, Elie Wiesel witnessed a trial. It was not unusual for prisoners to witness trials, this one would be different and very unusual. It was unusual because of the defendant. God was on trial. God was tried for turning his back and ignoring the Jewish people in their ultimate hour of need. God was tried in absentia. I mean how you can put God on the witness stand is a question all in itself. There was one problem, no one was willing to take on the role of God s attorney. God was eventually found guilty. After the verdict was announced, the court prayed. How is that for an oxymoron? But this incident, which served as the inspiration for The Trial of God, is part of the long Jewish tradition of arguing with God. Elie Wiesel was born in 1928 in Transylvania, which is now Romania. He and his family were deported by the Nazi s in 1943 to the most notorious concentration camp of all time, Auschwitz. He regained his freedom in 1945 when the camp he was at, he was transferred to Buchenwald with his father, was liberated by the allies. The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission, also known as the TRC, was formed to help the nation deal with the horrific events that occurred under apartheid. It served many purposes including: to allow individuals to find out the truth of crimes committed during the time period, grant amnesty from the government for individuals who confessed the whole truth, and to allow the country as a whole to reconcile and forgive all who contributed to apartheid. These TRC trials were aired nationwide on television. It created a safe ground for citizens to voice the accounts of violence unleashed on them by the government and an opportunity for perpetrators to come forward. The reconciliation of South Africa was achieved by the formalized process of the TRC, with the goal of restoration. The Gugulethu trial is a prime example of how forgiveness among individuals may be possible. As seen in the courtroom screening scene of the hysterical mothers of the victims, these trials could be very emotional for the families of the victims. Seven young men accused of being hostile terrorists were gunned down by police officers. The explanation for the orders for shooting the young men were because they appeared as threats to police as they attempted to arrest the men. (Book II, Chapter VII, para. 44) Different from Huang s idea that the emperor is still superior, Rousseau s theory about politics assumes there is an ever righteous General Will. Rousseau s solution to the problem is based on this belief. He argues that the General Will is the only binding force that can be exerted on the individuals, so a law bill drawn by a however intelligent legislator, which is a particular will of an individual cannot become law before being authorised by the sovereignty. (Book II, Chapter VII, para. 47) The separation of power of drawing a law bill and legislation will therefore prevent the self interest of the legislator impeding the collective welfare. Because General Will is the aggregation of many individual wills, it is possible to verify if a law bill proposed is in line with the General Will by consulting the citizens opinions, e.g. by free vote. When law bills are widely supported and scrutinised by the citizens, one can be assured that the social welfare is not impeded by the legislators private interest. # Discussions I believe Huang s proposal is a great advancement in China s political history, for the pioneering idea that the emperor s performance should be scrutinised thoroughly is raised. • 13. Feminism In Shirley Jackson s We Have Always Lived In The... The author G.D Anderson once said that Feminism isn t about making women strong. Women are already strong. It s about changing the way the world perceives that strength. Throughout all of documented human history, patriarchal values and beliefs have been a dominant factor in society, literature, and culture. Forever seen as inferior, the strength that women truly have has had to hide behind the thought that a man is necessary for anything to succeed. Shirley Jackson is the author of the gothic novel We Have Always Lived in The Castle; a story about a young girl and her sister, who are both absolutely despised and ostracized from the people who live in the village around them. The two Blackwood sisters could not be more different in both personality and values, but in the novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle, Jackson uses her platform to express how even the most contrasting natures of femininity are able to come together to be self sufficient despite opposition and aggression from male figures. Furthermore the essay asserts They are all trying to signal something with a name, and an overwhelming number of parents are seemingly trying to signal their own expectations of how successful they hope their children will be. The name itself isn t likely to make a shred of difference. But the parents may feel better knowing that, from the very onset, they tried their best. Homeostasis is a state of equilibrium reached through physiological processes. In order to maintain homeostasis, living things use cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems to counteract physical changes. Using a variety of different tissues, organs are formed to accomplish specific tasks. The four main types of tissues are epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscular tissue, and nervous tissue. Several sublevels exist for each type of tissue. Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces and lines body cavities. The three main kinds of Epithelial tissue are squamous which is composed of flat cells, cuboidal, which is composed of cube shaped cells, and columnar which is composed of stretched, pillar like cells. Each type of epithelial tissue can be either simple or stratified. Simple is one layer of cells, while stratified has more than one layer. Each type can also be glandular. Glands can be either one epithelial cell or multiple cells. Its purpose is to secrete products into different parts of the body or outside of the body. Exocrine glands secrete their products into ducts or directly into a tube/cavity. Endocrine glands secrete their products directly into the bloodstream. Examples of epithelial tissue are the linings of lungs, kidneys, small intestine, and the nose. Notorious for his paintings of religious scenes, mythology, and portraits, his style is easily recognizable through his portrayal of large, pale, nude women (Johnson 144, 145). In his painting, Diana and Her Nymphs Departing for the Hunt, Rubens positions Diana, a goddess in Roman mythology, at the forefront of the piece partially topless, reflecting her fertility and sexuality; meanwhile in the background a confrontation between a nymph and satyr display the conflict between nakedness and nudity, male and female, and obscene and control. In the article, Erotic Ambiguities: The Female Nude in Art, Helen McDonald, graduate of fine arts at University of Melbourne, argues that the difference between nude and naked can be simplified to the difference between privilege form over matter, male over female, and art over obscenity (McDonald 61). In order for the naked body to survive as art, Rubens must discipline and regulate the body (McDonald 61). In the painting, Diana and her nymphs are nude as opposed to naked because they are bounded by clothes and their body movements seem controlled. However, the satyr is naked instead of nude because his motions appear erratic and forceful, not within bounds, and the nymph is trying to control him. Diana, the goddess of the hunt, epitomizes control in the photo not just through her body language but because she has the power to tame wild animals, which is illustrated with her interaction with the dogs in the painting. Additionally, Nicole Sault in The Savage Body claims that a savage can be distinguished through his nakedness and that savages are typically portrayed as males until they have been controlled, in which they are depicted as female (Sault 4). Large scale centralized governments in Europe that were thriving during the ninth century found themselves deteriorating in the tenth and even eleventh century. Empires no longer had a tight grip on those who inhabited the land. Notably, each sector and individual empire of Europe experienced this loss of control differently. Many of the empires in western Europe, like the Carolingian empire, experienced fragmentation and a lack of unification as locals of influential families began to take rule. With these local rulers, the borders of each empire vanished or became a blur. To illustrate, regions as small as a few square miles were under the control of various lords who in their right, acted as independent rulers (SH p.128). Even to the east, the Byzantines experienced a lack of control as the wealthy Dalasseni family could defy the emperor and also form rebellions against him (SH. 117). Adding to this fragmentation, Europe experienced detrimental invasions from the Vikings, Muslims, and the Magyars (Hungarians). Due to this division, Europe as a whole became multi ethnic and multilingual. Because of this overall disintegration of peoples, existing rulers became heavily dependent upon vassals; individuals who voluntarily made a public bond with a commanding lord. • 42. Theoretical Approaches To Personality Analysis While reading through chapter eleven of my psychology textbook, I discovered that the four main theoretical approaches to personality include the psychodymanic approach, the triat approach, the social congnitive approach, and lastly, the humanistic psychology approach. The first theory the book establishes is the psychodymanic apporach, also known as Frued s Theory, states that a person s personality is not due to a specific set of factors but rather that personality is determined by many factors such as a human s drives for food, sex, aggression, ect., as well as a person s unconscious processes, and a person s early childhood influences, most specifically a person s parents or gaurdians. The psychodynamic apporoach states that personality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This scale, like many others, described my personality on what traits I self described myself as being. After the conclusion of the personality test, the test described myslef as being a people person, an open person, and a generally positive person. The test also depicted my weakness as being to talkitive and too permissive, and my limitation as being failing to follow through on past commitments and failure with self disipline. I also scored almost equally on the lion personlity which means that while I am mostly an otter I also have very developed skills in leading. The trait theory, I believe, is the easist way of desribing a person s personality because you do not have to look into a person s past to determine why a person s personaity is the way it is but rather the trait view just observes a person s personality. The trait theory though falls though because it does not expain why people act the way they do or why they have prejudices. The social cognitive approach argues that a person s persoanity is learned whether than inherit our personaities. This follows through with some ideas in gender theory stating that a person s gender traits are also learned by society than inherited. This also releates to Frued s theory of parent involvment in a human s personality because a person s parents will be most around a child generally in that child s early development which allows for that child to generally delevop the traits of their parents and then hold on to those traits throughout their ... • 43. Essay on Hunger Unrelenting Hunger Hunger , by Lan Samantha Chang, is a cautionary tale of an immigrant Chinese family in this complex story about unrelenting hunger, oppression, love and loss. Narrated by Min; the deeply unhappy and obedient wife of Tian, a gifted violinist, finds work as a music teacher in New York, but ultimately fails to land a permanent job at the school. Driven by personal failure and his unrelenting hunger for the violin Tian cruelly forces his two daughters, Anna and Ruth to play the violin, so they can follow in his footsteps. Tian s inability to separate himself from his violin ends up destroying his family. Because of this sacrifice he sees his violin as his main identity; he is a violinist, and he must honor that at all costs. He can t allow himself to enjoy anything else in life for fear that he sacrificed everything for nothing. The great irony here is that this all consuming obsession with the violin leaves him bereft of any time or desire to spend time with his wife and children, unless it involves the violin, which ultimately causes them to reject him too. When Tian s own dream dies he ruthlessly pushes music on his daughters in order to allow him to live vicariously through them. Anna, the oldest, tries to win her father s love through the violin but ends up having a mediocre sense of pitch (54) and Tian can no longer stand to teach Anna the violin. Min notices when he looked at Anna he saw nothing but his own struggles; he hated her difficulties, but he especially hated his own. (55); this immense self hatred, and lack of an identity outside of the violin, causes him to viciously force Ruth to become a violinist. Despite her lack of interest and the fact that she cries during every practice, Tian does not care as he sees promise in her. He yells at Ruth Do you understand? From now on, you work. You practice every day (60) to which Ruth responds No no no no (60). It does not seem to matter to Tian that his daughter has no real desire to play the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Crux Research Paper The Crux is more commonly known as the Southern Cross, its name being Latin for cross. Although it was seen by the Ancient Greeks, it was known to be part of the constellation Centaurus. The stars that make up the cross are: Alpha Crucis, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon. Quite a few of the constellation s brighter stars are also members of the Centaurus / Scorpios association. The reason I chose this constellation is because of its significance to my country. The Southern Cross is on the national flag, and I have always wondered about the legends and reasons behind this constellation. This constellation was, as mentioned above, part of Centaurus, so there was no traditional myth about its creation. However, Crux was not separated as a singular constellation until 1516, by Italian explorer Andreas Corsali. Quite derivatively, the Southern Cross (Crux) was named for its shape, and the hemisphere that can see it. The Ancient Greeks once were able to see it, but over time it disappeared over the horizon, so now the southern hemisphere can see it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Man, filled with renewed energy, set to work carving a cross, using a stone tool to help him shape the wood. A few work filled hours later, Man held the wooden cross up to the moonlight. He spied a lone beast grazing in the grass a short distance away. Man held up the cross, and threw with all his might. The purpose of this paper is to examine the manner in which ethics promoted by human resource management affects the operations of an organization. The human resource management is responsible for implementing the accepted behavior of the stakeholders to ensure that the company runs smoothly. The company is dependent on the human resource in maintaining and promoting ethical behaviors as it has the responsibility of educating, training and communicating the behavior of the stakeholders. This paper clarifies the manner in which the human resource management engages in various operative activities for instance protecting the company from infringing the set laws and regulations through practicing unethical behaviors. It is very easy for the human resource management to implement a code of ethics through the established policies of the company that establishes the ethical behavior and helps in governing the daily activities of the organization. The central government in Baghdad declared the referendum unconstitutional and demanded that Kurdish leaders reject it. In 1988, the regime systematically murdered as many as 182,000 Kurds and razed at least 4,000 Kurdish villages to the ground in a what was clearly a genocide. Following the 1991 Gulf War, when Saddam Hussein was viciously persecuting Kurdish and Shi a populations, the United States instituted a no fly zone to protect the Kurds, but provided no further help to liberate them from the government that had slaughtered them en masse. Following the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, the Kurds emerged as an instrumental partner for stability and moderation; the US leaned heavily on their support. Under the new Iraqi constitution, the Kurds gained autonomy, though the exact geography of Iraqi Kurdistan remained undefined, as both the Kurds and the central government claimed the right to control regions such as Kirkuk. Later, with the rise of the Islamic State, the Kurds became a primary force fighting the Islamic State, and a key US partner in the struggle to eradicate the terror group. • 50. Loss Of Chance Is An Alternative Cause Of Action Loss of chance is identified as an alternative cause of action , particularly, in cases of medical negligence. In recent cases, where actions based on causation have failed, it has succeeded. The onus lies on the plaintiff to prove negligence by the defendant and loss of a chance of a better outcome. However, a plaintiff cannot establish that the defendant s negligence probably caused their injury. The concept of loss of chance is defined as a doctrine that permits the recovery of damages upon destruction or reduction of prospects to ultimately achieve a more favorable outcome. Consequently, provided negligence is found, more than a one percent (1%) chance of a better outcome needs to be proven by a plaintiff in order to be awarded damages. However, the quantification of damages is related to the quantification of the loss of chance in relation to the injury. The value of the injury could be a small or a large fraction of the amount. Most recently courts have established the loss of chance doctrine as an alternative or additional cause of action in medical negligence litigation. Although loss of chance had earlier been recognised in the High Court of Australia as an suitable cause of action in non medical cases of negligence as well, in the matter of Sellars v Adelaide Petroleum NL, and had been considered but not implemented in the medical cases of Chappel v Hart, and Naxakis v Western General Hospital, it was a major factor in the New South Wales medical case of Rufo v Hosking. Subsequently, the loss of chance has been the basis of several other successful cases of negligence against doctors or health authorities in New South Wales, including Halverson v Dobler, State of New South Wales v Burton, and Tabet v Mansour. It was also successful in the matter of Gavalas v Singh. In contrast, the concept of loss of chance was rejected in the case of Gregg v Scott, and has not yet been reconsidered by the High Court.
