The feedback provided suggestions for improving various elements of the fanzine project. For the title font, recommendations were made to use fonts 17 and 14 for "Blood" and "Ice Cream" respectively in different colors. While two reviewers liked the pixelated artwork style, one found it obscured the characters. It was also suggested to better integrate the text visually. The feedback advised including both text and text-less images to balance information and visual exploration. Overall, incorporating different fonts, colors, text treatments and a mix of image styles was believed to strengthen the fanzine as both an artistic and informative work.
2. Which fonts do you think would go well together for the title Blood and Ice Cream, I plan on having the
“Blood” font red and the “Ice Cream” font mint green ?
I like the look of font 12 because both blood and ice cream drip, and this font shows this.Which provides
an interesting link between blood and ice cream, even though they are similar aspects. Font 17 also shows
dripping, however this looks more like blood than ice cream, therefore doesn’t show a better link between
the two items. I am not very pleased with the colour choice, as I don’t think they work very well, howeevr
you could make the red a bit darker, to show it’s a more darker/negative aspect, compared to the ice
cream which is a positive aspect (therfore bright coloured).
Do you like the style of artwork that I have on the majority of the pages with the pixel-esque layer style
artwork with the larger white font in and around the characters ?
Yes i think that this style of imagery is aesthetically pleasing and think that this creates an interesting
comic-style which appeals to many people. On some of the pages the text could be more intersting as it is
just plain bold text, for example similar to designs you have done on other pages for the text.
Do you think that I should leave some of the images completely text-less or do you think that I should do
more character fact file sort of spreads. Or should I leave the fanzine as more of a visual journey and have
very minimal text within the fanzine ?
Yes I think having a double page spread completely image-based, as this provides a nice break from the
text, and allows the viewer to focus mainly on the image, however if you do this I think the imagery needs
to be a different design to the usual pixel-style, or including more design on top o this to make the
imagery stand out compared to the others.
3. Which fonts do you think would go well together for the title Blood and Ice Cream, I plan on
having the “Blood” font red and the “Ice Cream” font mint green ?
Font 6 is my choice, because I think it is easy to read while still possessing a suitable amount of
edginess, without detracting from the comedic value of the film that characterises Hot Fuzz as
such a memorable classic of British comedy.
Do you like the style of artwork that I have on the majority of the pages with the pixel-esque
layer style artwork with the larger white font in and around the characters ?
No, personally I find the style to be obstructive rather than interesting, as it takes away from
the appeal the actors generate by making them incredibly indistinct. I like the idea behind the
fonts, but I believe that the pixelation effect makes them look worse instead of better.
Do you think that I should leave some of the images completely text-less or do you think that I
should do more character fact file sort of spreads. Or should I leave the fanzine as more of a
visual journey and have very minimal text within the fanzine ?
I think the latter option would be the best choice, as Hot Fuzz is already such a thoroughly-
dissected and cherished film that allowing the reader to make their own interpretation of it
would have greater success in regards to marketability, as people often don’t like being told
what to think or feel about something they hold dear.
4. Which fonts do you think would go well together for the title Blood and Ice Cream, I plan on having the
“Blood” font red and the “Ice Cream” font mint green ?
I think having a mix of 2 fonts would work well and having the and in a neutral font. I feel for the blood
font I would suggest 17 whereas for the ice cream I would suggest font 14. It may also work to interchange
the fonts where you have the blood font on the word ice cream and vice versa.
Do you like the style of artwork that I have on the majority of the pages with the pixel-esque layer style
artwork with the larger white font in and around the characters ?
I really like the art style of each image however I feel the text doesn’t fit with the style very well. I feel you
need to add something else to the text to make it fit in more. Maybe different effects, colours or fonts.
Do you think that I should leave some of the images completely text-less or do you think that I should do
more character fact file sort of spreads. Or should I leave the fanzine as more of a visual journey and have
very minimal text within the fanzine ?
I think you should have a balance between images with text and without as some of the artwork wouldn't
work well with text. I feel keeping it as a visual journey with little text would be good but then maybe at
the end or the beginning having a couple of pages with maybe like a fact sheet might work well as it gives
the audience more of an idea of who the characters are.
With the ’idea’ age I would make the hand and gun a separate layer and add a stroke around it as this
would create a clear separation from the gun and his head.
5. Summary: I think that the feedback was very helpful as for one thing I was unsure on what
font to use for my front cover and the input of the people that looked at my work will help
to choose my fonts and colours.
I had two of the people say that they liked the art style and then one person say that they
felt that my art style was obstructive and made the images unclear. The other two people
said that they like the style of the artwork and that the comic book style of the artwork
appeals to many people.
From the two people who were constructive about my work they told me that a mix of my
work would be better for my project as the text-less images act as a break from some of
the more text heavy pages. I think that this mix of text-less and text images will work very
well together as apart from the the fanzine I was looking at doing I was also looking at
making more of an art book or making my artwork into posters that I could display as art
pieces.
