3. Equipment
Practical andTechnical Problems
The main issue when it comes to my project is
the equipment that I use when I create my
artwork for my equipment.The computers
that I use to create my artwork have the
potential to crash and this is probably the
scariest part of doing everything that I am
doing digitally, there is always the potential
that the computer can crash and I can lose my
work. The way that I can counter this is by
saving any major changes to the files by
frequently and saving the files roughly every
half an hour to make sure that I constantly
have the products. One thing that I am going
to do is that I am going to offload all of my
projects onto my OneDrive cloud as I have 1TB
of storage on it so I won’t run out of storage on
the cloud and I can have free storage on the
Mac and not having to worry about it running
out of storage.
4. Backups
Practical andTechnical Problems
Once I have created all of my content for my
project I am going to have to backup the
project I have created somewhere. I think that I
am going to backup my data to a memory stick
or ssd and then backup the files to my
OneDrive and potentially my phone so that if I
have any errors with any of my backups I have
3 different backups to choose from as well as
the actual file itself.
I can also start to work on the SSD itself and
have all of the work on another drive and then
backup my work on my computer at home.
5. Ability
Practical andTechnical Problems
I think when it comes to ability, I don’t really
think that I have a lot to worry about as I think
everything that I am trying to achieve in this
project I am fairly confident in being able to do
but if there is something that I am unsure on I
will have to do my research and look around
for solutions and tutorials from my problem. I
think another thing that could stump me is if I
need to make something for my project but
the only way to do it is with software that isn’t
on the Mac, I think the only way around this is
seeing if I could get the software on the Mac or
doing the work when I’m at home.
6. Time
Theoretical Problems
I think that one of my biggest problems is
managing my time and making sure that I
manage my time very well and make use of my
free time when I’m not at college or at work.
Another thing that I need to do is managing
my time when I’m in college and making sure
that I get the most out of my hour and a half
long lessons.
7. Human Problems
Theoretical Problems
When it comes to myself there are a couple of
different things that could go wrong as I am
susceptible to being broken. Such as RSI, this is
one of the things that is very prevalent in
computer work as I could strain and injure my
wrists when working, to help combat this I am
going to take breaks every so often from my
work to help prevent injuring myself. I think
that the other thing that might cause me
issues is that I might get some Eye Strain as
the majority of my time is going to be spent at
a computer screen so I might have some eye
strain and get headaches.
8. Finance
Theoretical Problems
When it comes to finance there are only a
couple of things that I need to worry about
such as paying for my Creative Cloud each
month and getting food while I’m at college.
Then for my actual FMP I need to have some
money put aside so that I can print out my
magazines and have a physical copy of my
fanzine to show people at the presentation at
the end of the year. The only other finance
option that I may have to worry about would
potentially be paying to get the bus to college
if getting to college via cycling stops becoming
an option.
9. Finance - Mixam
When it comes to my fanzine one of the things I need to do
is print my magazine from an official company so I
understand what its like to have a more official looking print
of my magazine. To get a better look at this I have ordered 2
sample packs from a website that gave me a good price for
what I needed. On the website it gave me a run down of the
different types of papers and finishes but I think that the
sample pack will help me to choose between different
papers and get the best look for my fanzine.
I’m going to use this sample pack to help influence my
magazine and the design and the final look of my fanzine.
I’m glad that there is a sample pack as if there wasn’t I
would feel like I would be going into the printing process of
this project blind and printing something that I don’t like
and wasting my money.
10. Locations
Theoretical Problems
When it comes to Locations I don’t really have
to worry about anything because the only
location that I need to make it to is College,
and if I am unable to make it to college there is
a very good chance that I can do the work that
I need to do at home on my computer. I might
potentially have to do some location scouting
and take some pictures in town so that if I want
to convert those pictures into drawings, I have
the chance to do that.
11. Transport
Theoretical Problems
For transport there are a couple of potential
issues that could arise such as getting flat tires
and damage happening to my bike, to help
combat this I can only work around it by
getting the bus to college or potentially
getting a lift from a friend. I think that other
than the vehicular issues I face I could
potentially face issues from the weather such
as snow and ice but I think that I might have
missed out this extreme weather with it being
part in the year.
13. PoliceTape
For this experiment I decided I wanted to
make some realistic looking police tape
that I could potentially use in my fanzine.
I felt like that at the time that the police
tape was a really good idea and that I could
incorporate it on multiple pages and get a
lot of use out of it.
Step 1: Create a basic
yellow banner with the
font along the banner.
Step 2: I then used a
gradient that went from
dark to light to dark again
and then positioned the
gradient
Step 3: I then
created multiple
copies of the
banner and placed
them in different
angles to fill up the
frame and make it
look more like it
was trying to cover
up something
14. Fonts
This experiment was a smaller experiment into
typography, I wanted to do this to try and find a good
font that I could use for my Hot Fuzz typeface. I went
onto dafont and looked at fonts that spoke Hot Fuzz to
me.When looking at the fonts used for the movies
there was a lot of use of the chunkier fonts and the
brushed aluminium look, to try put a different spin on
the font I tried to use the blue and yellow colours that
are used on the sides of police cars and vans.
I thought that this would work very well but at the
moment the idea that I have for my cover is very
minimalist and will probably be very dark and the very
bright colours might not look so good on the cover.
15. Fonts
For my fonts I started by curating and
finding a lot of fonts that either looked
bloody/runny so that when the fonts were
coloured they look more like blood than
anything else, or a rounder, more cartoony
looking font that I could colour or make it
look more like ice cream.
At the time of me playing with the fonts we
were just about to start the feedback week
so I decided that I would ask people in my
feedback about which fonts they thought
worked for the individual themes I was
going for.
This was one of the more fun experiments I
had but after a while it did get very tedious
as I placed each individual chocolate chip
on the final Ice Cream font.
16. Artwork – First
Method
My first method of creating artwork
consisted of using a graphics tablet do
draw an outline around all of the major
facial features and then going in with a
darker colour to add accent lines in the
form of wrinkles on Rory’s face. This
method worked fairly well but the thing
that this method lacked a lot of was
depth and detail. The images ended up
looking like shapes that were cut out and
block filled and whilst I was happy that I
had finished one I wasn't that happy with
the final result. I felt that the final product
was very bland and lacked life to it so I
wanted to improve this.
17. Artwork –
Second Method
This method consisted of me still using the
graphics tablet to create my artwork but this
time I spent a lot more time with using lots
of different colours and using a higher PPI so
that I could use smaller pixels to add more
detail to my image, this time I focused on
using a lot more colours to make the image
look more realistic by trying to colour in the
highlights and shadows in blockier patches. I
then also went in with the burn/dodge tool
to add better highlights and shadows. This
method was very effective and on a larger
timeline I would have been able to use the
method to make all of my images for the
fanzine.
18. Artwork –
Final Method
My final method was using the filter
gallery, and the cutout filter yet again as
it the closest thing to the style of artwork
that I want to create. The cutout filter is
more akin to the artwork I wanted to
make as it uses the colours layers, but it
has more layers and more colours which
allows it to have more detail.
I feel like this method worked very well
and compared to my first method it looks
much better as the face has so much
more detail and looks more human than
the first method.
