2. Initial Reaction
• The FMP project was something I’ve been looking forward to for a while so I began think about
my concept and ideas for the project over Easter. I knew for weeks before that I wanted to
produce a short film for my FMP but for a while I wasn’t sure what type of film I wanted It to be
or what I wanted it to be about. I began to think about the 1 minuet long short film I produced
for my video rotation that I did before Christmas. I really enjoyed producing a film in the horror
genre last time and I realised that if I was to produce another horror film I could build upon the
ideas and editing techniques I used last time which could help me to produce something that is
much better and higher quality then my previous film production. For example last time I
thought I was good at building tension in my last film due to the suspenseful nature of the music
and the ticking countdown clock, I can now build on this and I can look at a specific scene or
situation the character is in and think “how can I create tension and suspense in the audience”? I
also think my last film was very good visually with the different effects and shots I used
throughout the film. One thing I was disappointed about with it though was that the colour
grading looked off in some places and the camera quality wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be I
think this may have been either the settings of the camera or something to do with the effects in
post production. Therefore this time I want to focus a lot on cinematic quality by making sure
the video quality is the best it can be, I will look at the resolution settings on the college cameras
and if they are not good enough I may see if I can film It on my mates iPhone as that can record
in 4K. I also want to make sure I have cinematic colour grading and aspect ratio in order to make
it look like a really high quality film you could see in the cinema.
8. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated
colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
I have collected several images of wardrobes as there is a wardrobe that plays a
key part in the plot of my film as that is were the creature is released from once it
is unlocked. There is also several images in there that in my opinion are supposed
to represent insanity as in my film I am going to leave it to the audience to
question if creature that is attacking the main character is a hallucination or real
as only the main character can see it.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
My mood board will influence my final product as in the plot mood board there is
a definite theme of insanity and childhood fears in the images I have collected.
These are all themes that I have taken inspiration from when coming up with my
project. For example the creature that attack the main character is supposed to
be a manifestation of his childhood fears. I also want to imply that the main
character is slightly insane and that everything that is happening could be inside
his head as he is the only one that can see everything that is going on.
