2. Blood and Ice Cream
■ I think that for my logo for my magazine I am going to look at a couple of different
styles of fonts for the different parts of the title so I might look for a more sharper and
hard font for the blood portion of my title and then a softer and bubblier looking font
for the Ice Cream part of the title and then layering them with a blood and ice cream
look on top of it. I think that this could look very good and fit the theme of the title but
the other route that I could go down would be having the font match the font style for
the actual poster for the film. Apart from this I could go for a more basic and bland
style font for my fanzine, I could have it as a Sans Serif, block black font.
■ I think that the Blood and Ice Cream title is good for my fanzine as the Blood and Ice
Cream title is actually a niche trilogy name for the CornettoTrilogy, and personally was
a name that I hadn’t heard of but when I saw it on the Wikipedia page for the trilogy it
instantly caught my eye and I think that this will work as a title because it’s also very
eye catching.
3. Art Style
■ For my magazine I am trying to decide on what style of art
that I want to fill my magazine in.There are a couple of
different styles of art that I am thinking of putting in my
magazine such as pixel art (1) and then a more comic book
style(3) look. I am still deciding on which one I want put in
my magazine and I am deciding on whether or not to use
just one of the art styles or to use them both. The other
thing that I need to decide on is the content that I want to
put into the fanzine such as purely just shots of the film or
whether or not I should put some Borderlands-esque
Character Introduction(2) screens into the fanzine to add
a bit more extra content into the magazine.Another thing
that I am going to look into is the fonts and typography
that I can use with my fanzine and these will be the main
bulk of the additions to the content that I add to my
fanzine.

4. Week 1
■ I think that in week 1 I am going to combat the actual content that I want to put into
my fanzine by going through the film, script, behind the scenes and interviews. I will
look into these to look at some of the best and most iconic scenes in the films and
screenshotting them and then getting them ready for converting the pictures to pixel
art style. I will then write down the lines that the character says so that if I want to I can
convert the lines into text bubbles or block text to add more impact to the pictures.
The main thing that I am going to be doing is continually watching and looking into
the film to learn more small insights about the film. I think that I am going to do a
more fact file style of fanzine were there are lots of small parts of information, that are
quick and easy to digest. I will try to get all of this copy and pre-production done in this
week so that I can have 6 weeks dedicated to full on production as the
pictures/drawings that I will be making can take quite a while to draw.
5. Week 2
■ In week 2 I will start to create my pictures/drawings for the
content that I want to put on my fanzine. I am thinking that I am
going to focus on drawing double page spreads so that I can try
to minimalize my workload and not overload on the amount of
work that I need to do. I’m going to try get the images that I am
going to convert to work in the double page spread style by
trying to dedicate each half of the spread to one thing. I think
that I am going to try do this with things like a double spread on
the Detective duo of Andy Cartwright and AndyWainwright. I
could have one of the characters on each side of the page, but
the entire double page spread be one art piece, linked with the
characters on each page. And then I can also dedicate full
double page spreads to more important characters such as
Nicholas Angel and Danny Butterman. One of the things that I
ran into when creating the artwork for my fanzine was a
problem with aspect ratios with the film and the paper that I
plan on printing on as the images I will use for my artwork will
be off a 16:9 screen and the film has an aspect ratio of 2.35:1
which is the same width but is a lot shorter and leaves black bars
on the screen, then the A5 paper is even taller than 16:9, to
combat this I will add a black background to theA5 paper, the
main negative is this gives me larger black bars, but this gives
me more space to add more work in.
6. Week 3
■ I’m going to try and explain everything that I can about everything in Hot Fuzz such as,
the setting and the people in the town. I want to go into a lot of depth to explain
everything that I can about the film as I think that this film has a lot of hidden details in
it that aren't always seen by everyone and I want this fanzine to be a bit of an insight
into these details. At the moment I’m trying to decide on the style of artwork that I
want to put into the fanzine, I’m deciding between a pixel art style book or a comic
book styled book. I’m trying to decide at the moment as the place that I am printing
my project from has the facilities to print on a more comic book style booklet as well
as more professional style booklet. As the comic style of artwork will look better on
the comic book style that the company prints on, but the pixel style will look better on
a more regular piece of paper in a more magazine-esque book.
7. Week 4
■ By the end of week 4 I hope to have the majority of my done to a degree to which I can
start to do a primitive and pre-mature mock up of my fanzine and start to make a
layout of the fanzine. I then have the week off and I can start to look back on the work
that I have done over the 4 weeks and see if it is coming along well. By week 4 I am
hoping to have done at least half of my fanzine so that I am in a good position for the
final 3 weeks after the break to look at evaluating, finishing up and printing off my
fanzine so that I have physical copies of all of my work. By week 4 I am also hoping to
have gotten my technique for drawing my images down to the fastest speed so that I
can cut down on my production time of the drawings and spend more time on the
content of the fanzine with more article style writing instead of smaller little pieces of
information. I think that the little amounts of article style pieces in my fanzine could
be very effective with the smaller pieces of information.
8. Week 5
■ During my week off I plan on doing some work so that I can catch up a bit more on my
production as the drawings are very time consuming to draw and this week off will
give me a lot of time to do some more drawings and little bit more copy but the
drawings are the main focus of the fanzine. By this point in my production I am hoping
that I have decided between the type of print that I am going to do, I am hoping to
have decided between the comic book style booklet or the standard style booklet. I
am also going to look at the website that I am choosing to print from and look at the
options that they give me in terms of making my fanzine and in terms of the cover and
how it looks and the options that I have that change the look of the cover with the
different effects and printing techniques that will be available to me.
9. Week 6
■ In this week I will hopefully be getting close to finishing and be getting close to a final
look, design and layout for my fanzine. This week I will look at printing out a
preliminary version to look at and physically hold my magazine and get to see my
fanzine in person so I can have an idea on how it will look when printed. This will also
allow me to have a look at the printed out version of the artwork and see how they
look as they will be printed in CMYK whereas I have been editing the photos in RGB so
they will look different. This will also advise me as to what I need to do to edit the
pictures to make them more suitable for printing.
This wasn't something that I had really thought about
until I talked to my tutor, I then realised that before
getting my fanzine professionally printed I would have
to do a test print of my fanzine so that I could have a
look at how my fanzine looks, it printed will look
completely different to how it will look when printed.

10. Week 7
■ By this week I am hoping to just be doing final tweaks to my fanzine and potentially
looking at additional content to go alongside my fanzine such as a website and
potentially some artwork like posters or something else like potentially
clothing/merchandise. In this week I will also look into the other work that I need to do
to help enhance the product that I would be theoretically selling such as a website and
a store. I think that this will help to round out the entire experience of the product that
I’ll be selling. By this week I am hoping to have finished all of my work and I am hoping
that I can do some evaluating and get some feedback so that I can make some
changes to my fanzine to make it better.
