Rough Guide To Exoplanets
Alex s Rough Guide to Exoplanets
Intro
By exploring outer space, astronomers have found distant planets, called exoplanets. Properties of
these planets can be determined by using various techniques and technology.
The definition of an exoplanet is a planet that orbits a star outside our solar system. The first
exoplanet was discovered in 1995.
Nowadays techniques are becoming more refined and by using them predictions can be made
based on the many data points that we have for these planets. For example the presence of certain
elements can be detected via spectroscopy and then that data can be used to aid a prediction into a
planet s climate. Because there are so many factors that determine properties such as climate the
more data gathered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because for a planet to be detected it must have an orbit that transits between the
observation point and the star. This means that the planet must orbit in a very specific plane and
that the plane becomes smaller for planets that orbit at a greater distance from their host star. So
planets that are detected using the transit method are usually planets known as Hot Jupiters . To
break down this description it means that these planets are comparable to Jupiter because of their
size and density, and are described as being hot due to their closeness to their host star (usually
between 0.015 and 0.05 AU) and the high surface temperature that comes with that closeness. Also
if the host star is small such as a neutron star then the size of the plane that a transit is visible in is
also reduced.
Another drawback is that the amount of false positive candidates is higher than many other
methods and it s thought that, in some cases, as many as 35% of detected planets from Kepler
are false. This means that in some cases follow up investigation is required before a planet can be
confirmed. A common source of false positives is caused by fluctuations in the star s brightness
which are not caused due to a transiting planet but are often hard to differentiate and so they can
cause false negatives

Why I Am My Friend
Beep, beep, beep. In junior high, I woke up to this sound every morning at 5:30. It was always
the same routine: wake up, shower, get dressed, blow dry and straighten my dysfunctional hair,
put on makeup, eat breakfast, leave. I spent hours making sure I looked pretty so I could fit in. I
felt as if I had to look good to be accepted by the people I called my friends. I was a part of the
popular group, and I thought that was who I was. However, no matter how much makeup I put
on or how many Hollister t shirts I bought, I was never accepted by my friends because I was
always pretending to be someone I wasn t. I have long grown out of this stage; however, the
deception that I used when I was in junior high is not uncommon, and almost everywhere we
look, we can see other people engaging in deception as well. Although pretending to be someone
we are not to fit in is just a single example of deception, it s not hard to see that dishonesty affects
the way we live and the way our culture has formed. The concept of deception isn t new to
society; lying has been around for ages. People tend to hope that others are telling the truth;
nevertheless, most American people have accepted that nearly everyone lies and therefore, that
everyone is lied to. Deception is a part of American society and culture, so dishonesty is not
destroying America; what s destroying America is the way in which American people use
dishonesty. If we turn to recent affairs in American society, we can see how

What Is The Critique Of The Marvel Movie Doctor Strange
Critique
Imagine, that the world you ve lived in, and known for your entire life was; in fact, a completely
different world that you knew nothing about at all. A world that consisted of multiple dimensions
and sorcerers protecting our world from evils that subsist in other realms. In this exact moment,
you could be standing in the middle of a battle happening in a mirror image and not even know it.
After viewing Marvel Film Doctor Strange, the graphics will have you questioning if all these things
could actually be nonfictional; indeed, you may even find yourself wondering if you too might
have the power of mind to enter the Astral Plane. Although the graphics of this film are incredible
there are still some faults in this movie pertaining to onscreen relationship connections between
certain characters, and the underdevelopment of some characters.
Leading role Dr. Strange played by Benedict Cumberbatch was executed perfectly throughout the
movie. His character did a full three hundred and sixty degrees turn around during the movie and
the buildup during this turn around was very clear, leaving no room for confusion. His character
development had some very key moments to keep the audience fully engaged in his healing
process. To set the mood for Dr. Strange, they had a moment where Strange had just finished brain
surgery and was confronted by Dr. Palmer (Rachel McAdams) for a second opinion about a case
that she had, where he, within minutes had resolved and knew how to save

Analysis Of The Article Basic Writing Through The Back Door
In her article, Basic Writing Through the Back Door: Community Engaged Courses in the Rush to
Credit Age, Oregon State University professor Cori Brewster reflects on her experiences working
with high school and college students in an accelerated summer writing course for college credit.
Brewster s reflection is pragmatic and demonstrates the strengths and the weaknesses of the
program. She also shares her hopes for the future of similar programs and some suggestions for the
improvement of future of dual enrollment, early college, and other similar programs that are a part
of the rush to credit trend in secondary and postsecondary education. These features of Brewster s
writing show Brewster s careful consideration of her students and of the trend toward
underpreparedness that these expedited programs can cause for students when the focus is on
hurried matriculation or the numbers instead of students actual needs. With a goal of providing
better access to composition instruction for Oregon s rural students in a limited time under
restricting conditions, Brewster manages to create a service learningproject that is meaningful for
the students and the community. The obstacles they encountered serve to give other teachers in
similar programs and other teachers of transitional students with the necessary insights to help make
developmental and basic writing programs better.

Free Will and Libertanianism View
Whether or not humans have free will is a very popular question. This is because everyone wants
to know if the decisions they make are truly theirs or if their decisions matter at all. If everything
is predetermined then what you choose wouldn t matter because it would be bound to happen
regardless of if you chose it or not. Without free willmany people believe that life would have less
meaning to it. With free will comes power and importance. Having the ability to choose what
will happen gives humans the possibility of making an impact on the world. As well, people do
not really like the idea of having their whole life pre planned without their input. It is almost
impossible to say if humans have free will or not. Without concrete evidence there is no proof
that we do or do not have free will and it will most likely stay this way for some time to come. I
have a libertarianismview when it comes to whether or not humans have free will. I believe in the
possibility of free will and I do not accept determinism. Free will is defined as the ability to make
decisions at your own discretion. Determinism is defined as the events of the past, in conjunction
with the laws of nature, necessitate every event in the future. What determinism means is that past
events and the laws of nature are the factors that dictate what decision will be chosen. The
libertarianism view accepts incompatibilism. Incompatibilism states that free will and determinism
are incompatible and cannot work

However, other groups have noted long term improvements in joint pain from glucosamine
supplementation alone [8], and further enhanced effectiveness of combined glucosamine sulfate
and chondroitin sulfate, rather than the separate use of either supplement [5, 9]. The question of
their effectiveness in JCT populations is subject to ongoing debate. There has been growing interest
in eggshell membrane (EM) supplementation as a treatment for joint pain, as it does not present the
side effects of conventional treatments (NSAIDs). Eggshells and their membranes have been

high concentrations of a number of amino acids [13], collagenlike proteins [14 16], enzymes [17

roles in connective tissue [20]. Glucosamine, hyaluronic acid and chondritin sulfate are important
GAGs in EM (21, 22). With the high protein and enzyme content, and naturally occurring GAGs in

Brosnan s Role In 4 Bond Films
It was the mid 1990s, with the fall of the Berlin Wall, a brave new culture charged head first out
into the world. There was no denying that the times were in fact changing and even the great 007
couldn t beat the clock. He had to roll with the punches just like everyone else. Unfortunately, then
current James Bond, Pierce Brosnanwas rather discontented with the direction his films had
brought the character, relying more on light humor as opposed to the gritty nature of the
preceeding films of that time. Brosnan would go on to star in 4 Bond films between 1995 2002.
Although he enjoyed the role, he often wished that the storylines given to his respective films were
not so outlandish in nature. Brosnan was always a supporter of Sean Connery and Roger Moore, ...

Searching for the man to follow in Dalton s footsteps would prove to be no daunting task,
producers looked no further than the man they had eyed up so many years prior. In the summer
of 1994, after Remington Steele had faded from the public eye and had become a relic of the
1980s, Pierce Brosnan was officially announced as the fifth actor to portray James Bond.
GoldenEye would go on to be released the following November and would enjoy monumental
success, revitalizing public interest in the decades long running series.
Be that as it may, by the time of Brosnan s final outing as Bond in Die Another Day (2002) fans
had began to once again find cause for discontent with the direction the films had taken. Brosnan s
last two films in particular are often noted for their overuse of CGI and some of the most ludacris
storylines in the history of the series. Knowing that it was time for another change, Bond producers
showed Mr. Brosnan his pink slip after his many years of service and once again hit the reboot
button, starting from scratch with Daniel Craig taking the reins

The loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta caretta, is a threatened species with a highly migratory behavior
and shifting habitat requirements depending on maturity (NMFS and USFWS 1998). The
loggerhead nesting grounds are typically in warm temperate regions (NMFS and USFWS 1998).
In the original listing from USFWS (1978), the loggerhead sea turtle was listed as threatened
throughout all of its range. The document goes on to state that one of the main threats to the
loggerhead sea turtle was that it was being harvested for the shell or as food; the eggs were
considered a desired food item and protein source. Regulations were put in place to protect the
loggerhead sea turtle such as prohibition of foreign commerce, importation, and exportation ... Show

Figure 1. Loggerhead Observed Bycatch. This graph shows data collected on bycatch rates in
SEAMAP analysis data set in the Stock Assessment of Loggerhead Sea Turtles. From NMFS 2001.
Nesting habitat degradation is an anthropogenic threat to the loggerhead sea turtles. These threats
include coastal development, erosion control barriers or beach armoring, artificial lighting,
pollution, removal of native vegetation, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic (NMFS and USFWS
2007). Some solutions include protecting and managing turtles on nesting beaches, monitor coastal
construction, implement lighting regulations, screen artificial lighting with vegetation, and impose
regulations on beach armoring (NMFS and USFWS 1998). Predation is an important threat to
consider in nesting areas for the loggerhead. Many places have depredation to protect the eggs and
hatchlings against predators such as feral dogs, raccoons, and foxes (NMFS and USFWS 2007).
The future outlook for the loggerhead turtle has been studied using two analyses, one looked at
counts of nesting females and the other analysis was a stage based population model done to look
at the anthropogenic mortalities with respect to the vital rates of the species (Conant et al. 2009).
Using these analyses, it was determined that for the North Atlantic Ocean DPS there was a greater
likelihood of quasi extinction for the Northern Gulf of Mexico

The Ethics Of Managing Ethics
Managing Ethics
Ethics are a set of moral values about what is right or wrong. According to (managementhelp.org),
Philosophers have been discussing ethics for at least 2500 years, since the time of Socrates and
PlatoBeing a manager, one deals with countless ethical dilemmas which makes his or her job
challenging and complex (book). Managing ethics then refers to how a company ethically treats
employees, stakeholders, owners, and the public which greatly affects the organizational
performance. This paper aims at exploring the meaning of behaving ethically, how managers and
organizations can achieve an ethical behavior towards the people and organizations in their

Each of these models has its own ways of determining if a decision or behavior is ethical.
Managers deal with decision making in every single day of their job. Therefore, they need to
make ethical decisions which would benefit their organization. An ethical decision is the one
which a reasonable or typical stakeholder would find acceptable because it aids stakeholders, the
organization, or society. An unethical decision is one where a manager would have to hide from
others because he rejects all ethics that apply in a certain situation in order for him or the
organization to benefit at the expense of society or other stakeholders. When manager are trying to
determine whether their decision is ethical or unethical, they should ask themselves a certain set of
questions. First, a manager should ask themselves if their decision falls in the accepted values or
standards that typically apply. Second, they should ask themselves if they are willing to share their
decision with all the stakeholders affected by that decision. Finally, managers need to ask
themselves if the people with whom they have a strong personal relationship would approve of
their decision. (book).
If an organization is too large, its managers may need to develop an overall ethical code which
every employee should not break. Codes of ethics are formal standards and rules that managers can
use to help themselves make appropriate

The Apology By Bernard Of Clairvaux
Luxury played an immense role in medieval Catholicism by taking the focus from God and
placing it on the acquisition of riches and glory, which is shown by these sources: The Apology by
Bernard of Clairvaux, The Book of Suger by The Abbot Suger and Guilty Pleasures: Luxury in the
Middle Ages. These sources demonstrate the exorbitant manner that the churches and monasteries
were being built in during that time. This not only drew attention away from the real reason for
these buildings, but also was a form of idolatry for these monks, despite the honest intentions of
some of them, including the Abbot Suger. Each source lends different insight into the corruption of
the church during this medieval period. Apology by Bernard of Clairvaux... Show more content on

In short, so many and so marvelous are the various shapes surrounding us that it is more pleasant
to read the marble tanthe books, and to spend the whole day marveling over these things rather
than meditating on the law of God 1 Bernard realized that despite their best efforts, the monks of
Cluny could not help but be distracted from God by the riches. Therefore, he tries to bring this to
attention in his writing. Another criticism that Bernard brings up in his writing is the integration
of the Cluniac monks into society. He mentions that the Cluniac monks are using luxury for the
acquisition of more riches, as well as for the attraction of more wealthy benefactors. He asks the
Cluniac monks what they are expecting to receive for their efforts, Admiration from the foolish?
Offering from the ignorant? Or scattered as we are among the gentiles, are we learning their tricks
and serving their idols? 1 Bernard brings up a good point, which is that the Cluniac monks are
becoming too worldly. They are becoming too focused on the contributions that they will receive
from the world, in order to decorate their churches and monasteries. They are forgetting that they
became monks to leave the world behind. The Abbot of Suger has a very contradictory view
towards the luxury, which he expounds upon in The Book of Suger. He states the reasoning for the
beginning of the luxury that was lavished upon the buildings. In the twenty third year of

Dante s Inferno, By Dante
Dante s Inferno
Throughout the story Dante s Inferno, Dante takes a trip through hell to reach what he calls
paradise. During Dante s journey to hell he goes through the nine circles called: limbo, lust,
gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud, and treachery. With each of the circles in hell
, there
is a punishment that resembles each of sins committed. Based on the reactions that the pilgrims
give through textual conversations between Virgil and Dante. It can be concluded that the pilgrim
has acquired knowledge throughout his journey. Dante notifies the readers by saying strayed,
leaving the path of truth (Dante 67), which helps the reader comprehend the purpose of his
journey throughout the book. Agreeing to the text, Dante tried to climb a hill that would lead
him to paradise, but could not be obtained anything because the book state s the beast was there
blocking his way (Dante 68) meaning Dante. Since the beast would not allow Dante to pass, it
was understood that in order to move higher, one must achieve the understanding of the process.
In this case, Dante would have to go through an external place (Dante 71) to achieve getting to
his paradise. Dante gives some types of hints, giving away that the pilgrims has also committed
sins, but does not go in depth on what it is he has committed to actually go to hell and redeem
himself so he can go to paradise or in other words heaven. This journey is just so Dante would get

The Film Analysis Of The Wizard Of Oz
The Wizard of Oz was first filmed in 1939 and has been revised several times to keep up with the
time frame at present. It started out as a black and white film and was originally produced by
Metro Goldwyn Meyer. Judy Garland is playing the role of Dorothy Gale, who in this film is a
restless bored young girl that wants something other than the dreary life she lives in Kansas,
(Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014, Ch. 4.3 para. 1,2) This film focuses on the power of the
imagination and gives a place for mental escape and relaxation. The power of the imagination is
demonstrated throughout this entire film. It begins with Dorothy ended up in a place called
Munchinland that has little people, and is filled with colors and excitement, the opposite of
Kansas where everything is black and white. The most magical scene is the scene when Dorothy
and her dog, The Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Scary Lion meets the Wizard. When they
arrive to their destination an image of a man appears during a blazing fire and thick smoke, and
he speaks with authority and control. The fear in Dorothy and her friends is overwhelming to
them, especially for the scary lion who faints before he can speak. The cinematography technique
is crystal clear in capturing the fear and confusion in the characters, as well as the audience. The
special effect in editing allowed the audience to see long views of the face in the fire and smoke
and experience the fear along with Dorothy and her friends. The lighting was

A Research Study On Black Males
Problem Statement: In many school districts throughout the United States, Black males are
more likely than any other group to be suspended and expelled from school (Meier, Stewart,
England, 1989). Youth of color are disproportionately likely to grow up in poor, disadvantaged
neighborhoods characterized by high levels of psychosocial stressors and inadequate supportive
resources; Poverty and racial minority status correlate with an increased risk of high school
dropout, teen pregnancy, substance abuse, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs)(Ssewamala,
et. al, 2011). Affected with such a threatening collection of social and economic adversities, it is
amazing that the experience of Black males in education, in relation to attainment and gauges of
academic performance have not been analyzed more closely. I propose to do a qualitative
research study that explores: 1. Educational attachment in the Black male community in the
Bronx. On the rise, or failing below the average? 2. What are the barriers to educational
attainment for Black men living in the Bronx? 3. If there are barriers, what are these barriers? Are
they unique to Black Men? 4. How can these barriers be overcome? (Institutional, or cultural)
Method and Analysis: Over the next 6 months a descriptive qualitative study will be conducted
based on a variety of psychosocial factors that affect Black Male youth from 14 21. Using surveys,

To Kill A Mockingbird Symbolism
Symbolism Behind Killing a Mockingbird The author writes, Remember it s a sin to kill a

asked Miss Maudie about it. Your father s right, she said. Mockingbirds don t do one thing but
make music for us to enjoy . . . but sing their hearts out for us. That s why it s a sin to kill a

into play. Throughout To Killa Mockingbird, Harper Lee paints a picture of certain characters being

Even by his innocence proved within the final pages of the novel, many judged him because of
the way he always lived in isolation. Many invented these counterfeit stories of how he was a
murderer, or that his intentions were to harm others. Harper Lee also uses literary techniques to
create an image of this happening, and even makes the reader go along with and agree with the
ridicules. Harper Lee writes, According to Miss Stephanie, Boo was sitting in the living room
cutting some items from the Maycomb Tribune to paste in his scrapbook. His father entered the
room. As Mr. Radley passed by, Boo drove the scissors into his parent s leg, pulling them out,
wiped them on his pants, and resumed his activities. This is never proven within the book, nor is
it proven wrong. However, Boo was always in isolation, and Mr. Radley wanted to make sure no
one in the town even thought he was there, and would not let Boo communicate with the outside
world. Harper Lee also explains that the children think Boo is six and a half feet tall, dined on
rodents and felines that he caught, and thought that his teeth were rotten and hands bloodstained. In
other words the children thought of him as a monster even though they had never before seen him.
However from the incident with the blanket and the ending where Boo saved the children s lives,

Banquettes are an alternative to chairs, a functional and space saving solution, which offers
seating and storage. Commonly incorporated in kitchens and dining areas, customized banquettes
usually help fill awkward corners and niches and put them to use, which makes banquettes a
favorite seating option. Although it depends on the size of the space, as they are easily accessible
when combined with banquettes, relatively smaller trestle or pedestal tables are a suitable
solution. In small spaces, where every inch counts, banquettes offer extra storage. These usually

The And Punishment Of The United Nations
Impunity is defined as an exemption from punishment or freedom from the injurious consequences
of an action. More specific, it refers to the failure to bring perpetrators of human rights violations to
justice, thus denying victims the right to justice and restoration. These violators may be
government officials or private individuals and they are often protected by special jurisdictions,
sanctions, immunities, or amnesties. In 1945, at the Nuremberg Trials, which judged the accused
war criminals of Nazi Germany, the international community pledged that never again would it
allow monstrous crimes against humanity or genocideto take place. The United Nationsrecognized
the need for an international criminal court to prosecute and punish persons responsible and to help
end impunity for these perpetrators of the most serious crimes against humanity. In 1948, the
United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the
Crime of Genocide. By 1951, international treaties against genocide, war crimes and crimes against
humanity had entered into force, establishing a body of law known as International Humanitarian

The Impact Of Indian Inflation On The Economy Of Nepal Essay
CHAPTER THREE
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1 Nature and Source of Data
The present study is associated with the utilization of secondary data on Money Supply and Price
Level for the economy of Nepal. The data of concerned variables are taken from various issues of
Economic Bulletin of Nepal Rastra Bank. Quarterly data on money supply and price level ranging
from 1976Q1 to 2012Q2, a total of 143 periods have been used in the present study. The present
study has employed the data sets of money supply and price level transformed in logarithmic form
to minimize the problem of heteroscedasticity.
Besides, the present study utilizes the quarterly data of Indian wholesale price index (WPI)
transformed into logarithmic form to examine the impact of Indian inflation on Nepalese inflation.
The WPIs are taken from Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Likewise, the present study utilizes the annual data of remittance and population growth to find the
impact of remittance on inflation of Nepal. While analyzing the impact of remittance on inflation,
the annual data of remittance and inflation as well as population growth have been employed. The
political instability is taken as dummy variable while analyzing the relationship between annual
inflation and remittance. The data for remittance are taken from Economic Survey of Nepal and
data associated with population are taken from International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Finally, the impact of anticipated money supply on price level is also analyzed by using

The Four Stages Of The Business Cycle
The four stages of the business cycle are complex phases that our economy undergoes. To grasp
the concept of the stages, you must first be familiarized with the business cycle itself. The business
cycle is the alternating periods of growth and decline. Or to be more intricate, The business cycle is
the periodic but irregular up and down movement in economic activity, measured by fluctuations in
real gross domestic product (GDP) and other macroeconomic variables, (Inc.com). A business cycle
is comprised of four stages: recovery, peak, recession, and trough.
In the recovery, the economy is growing. It is commonly indicated by a bull market. The
recovery is the increase in the rate of economic activity established by a moderate to low
unemployment percentage, towering development, and swelling prices. The next phase of the
business cycle is the peak. The peak is the most desired stage for it is the superior point of the
cycle. During this stage, the increased consumer confidence translates into higher levels of
business activity. The peak is, When the economy is overheated, and is in a state of irrational
exuberance, (Inc.com) In other words, the peak is the point at which the economy is as robust as
it can get. Following the peak in the business cycle is the recession. The recession is when the
economy is on the decline and jobs are being lost, unemployment rates soars, and production is
slowing. It identifies the end of a growth interval in the business cycle. Often,

Network Security Enhancement Using Software Defined...
Network Security enhancement using Software Defined Networking Technologies Software
Defined Networking (SDN) is a pattern of new technologies for permitting more prominent control
of how networks work. As opposed to a genuinely static network that must be controlled by
exclusive merchant particular protocols, with at times restricted deceivability into the internals of
layer 2 gadgets like switches, SDN considers experimentation in enhancing and arranging how the
network functions. Furthermore, SDN can be controlled utilizing product server equipment, which
can add to the reasonableness and expense reserve funds. The major advantage of Software Defined

If it s a large network consisting of so many networking devices, then it would be difficult to
configure each and every device with these security measures as it takes a lot of time to do so.
Further more, many network attacks are taking shape these days and their effects on the
network are unpredictable. So if a new attack comes and if a security measure is developed
against the attack, then it should be updated in each and every network device in a network,
which will be a very tedious job to do. This is the current trend running in the networking
environment. In our project we are implementing these security measures over SDN, as it
provides a centralized controller for the network. If we just configure these security measures in
the centralized controller, then the entire network, which is under the control of this particular
controller, can be secured. Thus it saves a lot of time and effort. And if a new network attack
comes into the network, then the security measure against this network attack can be configured
inside the controller, so that it can be applied to the whole network, which is under the control of
this controller instead of changing each and every networking device configuration in a network.
Software Defined Networks (SDN), as we utilize this as a part of the execution of the task. Software
Defined Networks is a

The Long Way Home Analysis
The Long Way home was written by David Laskin, a passionate reader who graduated from
Harvard College in 1975 with a degree in literature and history. Laskin in recent years has been
writing about non fiction events in which people are thrown into situations they cannot control,
such as war, horrific weather, and genocide. In The Long Way Home, Laskin did not hold back
details from the reader. His focus on the details are what made the monograph so impactful, and
with that, they give the reader a very good sense of what these individuals in past time hardships
had to deal with. The horrors of the immigration boats, coming to an America that was nothing like
they were told it was, and the unimaginable mental destruction of war; All of these... Show more

The same year Meyer had also been enlisted just only five years after coming to America. Meyer
s experience on the front lines began when he was called in as a replacement for a man who bled
too much to keep fighting. He was now part of America s big offensive. His first night of active
combat consisted of old trenches and bomb shell torn land. There was little German resistance...
There was no other sign of life (pg. 250). That night there was harsh rains and no fires could be
built. He spent the night cold and wet, but he was alive. Epifanio s army life came differently in
a sense. His division early on in the summer had joined with British Forces. His fellow comrades
kept talking about how the front lines weren t so bad unless you were at Ypres. Turns out that s
exactly where they ended up. Laskin quotes a soldier I can t describe the awfulness of war ... As
most men say, it is not war, it is slaughter. Don t go near Ypres (pg. 230). Epifanio had it rough; He
was amongst the toughest lines of battle known amongst men at the time, and every combat soldier
that thought they wouldn t see action, did not get off easily in the autumn of 1918. Both men
experienced hell, and while they were on different fronts, they both shared a life known as a soldier

Hester And Dimmesdale s Shame
Hawthorne artfully demonstrates the difference between external and internal portrayals of shame
and the consequences of both, by using the characters of Hester Prynne and the Reverend Arthur
Dimmesdale. By examining Hester and Dimmesdale s way of dealing with the repercussions of
their indiscretion and analyzing Benjamin Kilborne s critique Shame Conflicts and Tragedies in
The Scarlet Letter, one can see if, or by what measure, if either Hester s or Dimmesdale s shame is
worse than the other. I believe Dimmesdale s internal battle with his shame is far worse than Hester
s outward shame because it is unbearable, as mentioned by Kilborne.
An interesting idea brought up by Kilborne is how both Hester and Dimmesdale personify their
sin. He questions why Dimmesdale is forced into seclusion from shame as it reaches to the
depths of his soul if Hester is able to embrace her sin and shame and hold them up as realities.
Before looking at this more closely, the way people perceive shame is an important factor.
Kilborne mentions, In this context, shame can be a fundamental reaction to (and a defense against)
wrong feelings, or being helpless in the face of the intensity of feelings, or being flooded by feelings
one cannot understand. In addition to these shameful ego ideal conflicts, the fear of the intensity of
feelings itself generates shame, which then produces defenses against shame as an affect whose
intensity is threatening.

With this research I plan to go back to the roots of why sororities use Greek language in their
discourse community and how it helps them form a sisterhood that is shared only amongst the
community. Sororities and fraternities are becoming more prevalent in universities all across
the nation. Today, there are over 9 million members of the Greek communities and the number is
continuously growing each year ( Greek Life Statistics ). The terms fraternity and sorority
describe groups of men and women who join together to offer fellowship, academic support,
leadership training, participation in campus activities, service to the community and University,
and preparation for future careers ( What is Greek Life? ). People that in are the Greek
community all have at least one thing in common. Whether they just want to be apart of a
sisterhood/brotherhood or deeper things like they all share a common belief or goal. Sororities
have five basic benefits: sisterhood, scholarship, leadership, philanthropy (charitable causes
/community service), and socializing ( About Sororities ). These benefits are included in the
values and beliefs of a sorority as a discourse community. Greeks all speak a language that they
learn in the process of becoming part of their fraternity/sorority(recruitment process). Agendas, e

Roe Vs Wade Research Paper
Ever since I can remember abortion has been a very controversial issue to talk about. Roe v.
Wade was a Supreme Court landmark case on this controversial issue. This case was the beginning
of a national debate that continues to date. This case took place in Texas, before the case the law
said that unless you need to save the woman s life because they are endangered then abortionis
illegal. The decision in this case made it legal for women to decide. To this day people are fighting
against this. Pro choice are people who are pro having the choice to have an abortion or not. There
are a lot of people who would just like to make an abortion illegal. I am pro choice and thanks to
Roe v. Wadethe right for a woman to decide what she wants to do with her own body was fought
against the U.S. Supreme court. Instead of ending the debate of abortion this decision only made it
worse. People who were against it multiplied and strengthened their groups. As R. Albert Mohler Jr.,

The person I am going to analyse in this assignment is Aileen Lee Carol Wuornos who was
considered to be the first American female serial killer (Anon., 2015). Wuornos was born on
February 29th 1956 in Rochester Michigan (Anon., 2015). Her father, Leo Dale Pittman was an
alleged child molester and her mother Diane Wuornos was a teen mother who was not capable
of taking up the responsibilities that came about with being a mother (Anon., 2015). Wuornos
mother abandoned both her and her brother when they were young leaving them in the care of
their grandparents (Anon., 2015). Her grandmother was an alcoholic whereas her grandfather
abused her both physically and sexually (Anon., 2015). At the young age of eleven, Aileen
Wuornos began trading sexual favours for money, beer and even cigarettes (Anon., 2015). This
also allowed her to be able to be part of cliques and have a sense of belonging. On March 1971,
when she was fourteen she gave birth to her only child whom she gave up for adoption (Anon.,
2015). At that same time, her grandmother died of liver failure which led to her grandfather
kicking her out of the house (Anon., 2015). She was made wards of the court before she ran

Gabriela My Personality
Gabriela Kaczmarczyk was my student for two years of high school (11th and 12th grade).
Throughout those years, she made herself known as an extremely energetic person, exuberant
even. She always took active part in my lessons, willingly participating in any kind of
discussion. Her ideas, given the topic, were always relevant. She is the girl who encouraged her
fellow students to speak up, or even to argue their point, for she herself is an excellent speaker.
While working on a broad spectrum of cultural texts, her conclusions are most of the time
genuinely original. She tends to look for unique answers, her judgments are both fresh and
controversial. On the other hand, even given her spontaneity, Gabriela s personal culture is
spotless, and the same can be said about her approach to discussion. She has never offended
anyone, for she is accepting of all sorts of judgments and opinions. Gabriela was not only active
during my lessons, but also took part in many extracurricular activities, the most notable being a
literary contest. She wrote a story, which showed her creativity, also earning her the third place.

domestic savings (GDS) cane from the house hold sector and approximately 45 percent of the
household sector savings were kept in the form of bank deposits. The banking sector has played
an increasingly imperative role in the financial intermediation process by mobilizing savings in

Economical reasons that drove the Europeans to the New World. He himself did not chew

An example of such, is the Headright System. Since the king ruling at the time wanted to expand
his horizons he began with sending a group of colonizers to the New World. In the past when he
had began to do so, only 20% of the colonizers survived. So with his authority and better
judgment, the King began to give anybody 58 acres to anyone that volunteered to go on the
voyage to the New World Another Social reason is because of the number of Native Americans
decrease do to social events that the European. When Europeans began to trade with the Native
they trade utensils and clothing that had germs and diseases attached that the Natives were not
attached to, so before the colonies came along 1/10 Natives died from natural diseases. When the
europeans came along however the number jump to 8/10 so instead of decimation it had jumped
to octomation. The third reason was because of trade. When the Europeans first settle they traded
money, but when they came across the Natives they traded something of the same worth as stated
above in Economics. So the Indians with the New technology that the Europeans carried over,
started to gain the habits and way of the settlers. Property became a major problem between tribes,
and who had access to what hunting grounds, since they now had guns they had a new way to

reason is because of the florida Colonization. Juan Ponce de LeГіn in 1513 founded what was

1539 Hernando de Soto began another expedition in search of gold and silver which landed him

Sadest Poem Essay

understood one of the most famous Latinos poet. This poem was translated to English, even though
it didn t lose its original structure. No one can argue about the main idea of this poem that it s a
sad poem and we can clearly see that from the title. Neruda uses many of the poetry techniques to
complete a perfect picture ending with this poem. Sitting, metaphor, sounds, and imagery all were
the elements that leaded to this nice piece of literature.

Essay On The American Prison System
The American Prison System
For years the American Prison System has had many problems. Two of the main problems that we
face with the American Prison System are overcrowding of the jails and the way the inmates are
treated. There has also been a problem with the joint planning and budgeting among the different
agencies of the American Prison System. According to the textbook (Abadinsky, 2015), when this
occurs, the system is known to not be systematic. Today the United Statesleads all other countries in
the percentage of residents who are incarcerated (Abadinsky, 2015).
History of the American Prison System The history of the American prison system dates back to
the early 1790s when the first prison, Walnut Street Jail, was built. Years after the establishment of
the first prison, the new Auburn prison system came about in New York, in the early 1820s (Fraser
Freeman, 2012). Around this time the prisoners that were housed in this prison were put to work at
places that you would not normally see prisoners working at. These prison workers are known as
trustees. Trustees, during the time of the Auburn Prison System, were employed at places like hat
manufacturers and rope and wagon making manufacturers. Some inmates even ... Show more

Surely tax payers cannot continue to offset the cost of running prisons through taxation. The
private ran prison systems have the most to gain with some 6% of all state prisoners and 16% of
federal prisoners being housed by workers that are just right above minimum wage (Rose, 2015).
Private prison owners spend millions of dollars a year lobbying for political candidates that share
their same vision of longer minimum mandatory sentences, stricter anti parole regulations, more
and longer imprisonment of anyone for any reason (Rose, 2015). This issue has to be addressed
before the current system can ever have a chance of being

United Kingdom Fashion Industry
1. Introduction
According to Fashion s United Facts and Figures in the UK fashion industry 1 almost 2/3 of jobs
in the production of textiles, apparel, footwear and leather products were lost in the UK s textiles
manufacturing sector between 2000 and 2009. The sector that in 2000 has employed 285,000
people, in 2009 employed only 99,000. The same report states that this decrease of employment in
manufacturing of textiles was strongly impacted by emerging markets like China, India and the new
EU 27 member state industries like Bulgaria and Romania.
The aim of this essay is to point out the reasons behind this decrease and to reflect on the future of
the employment in the sector. First aspect is to analyze the impact of more competitive prices of
labour in developing countries and social consequences of depending on this model. Moreover, to
understand this shift in labour structure, it is important to look closely into governmental policies
regulating relations, particularly concerning trade, with those emerging markets. The final aspect is
to consider the future possibilites for the employees in the industry, especially concerning
advantageous position of developed countries in matters like implementation of innovative policies
or easier access to advanced technologies.
Examining these factors will lead to the conclusion that the rise of markets in newly industrialized
countries in the recent years will substantially change the nature of the employment in
manufacturing of

The Conflict Between The Protagonist And Antagonist In The...
In the film Mean Girls, the storyline is primarily driven by the conflict between the protagonist
and antagonist. The main character, Cady Heron, is both. Reasons why she could be the
protagonist are that she is innocent, kind hearted, and also very smart and honest. In the
beginning of the film, Cady doesn t know how high school works. Guys such as Jason, sexualize
her and she does not really understand what he s talking about. This is where her innocence and
her misunderstanding of what he said to her takes place. After this, Cady s kind heart steps in.
Cady is told by Janis and Damian about the horrible Plastics at the school. They explain what they
do and how they work. Even though Cady hears about how awful they are,she decides to give
them a chance anyways. She sits at lunch with The Plastics and ends up going to the mall and
hanging out with them and later on becomes their friend. Also, on some of her first days at her new
school, it is shown... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cady struggles with trying to fit in and finding true friends. As she becomes friends with The
Plastics, and sees what being popular is like, she thinks that she found her place and that that is
where she belongs. For example, after Janis, Damian, and Cady finish their sabotage against
Regina and take her from her superiority of The Plastics, someone will have to take Regina s
place, and Gretchen and Karen could both agree that Cady would be the next Regina. Another
time where Cady could be seen as being the next Regina George is whenever she won Spring
Fling Queen. Cady is chosen because after Regina s accident, the student body thinks that she will
fall into Regina s place as being the leader of The Plastics. Cady struggles with fitting in but she
comes to realize that being popular doesn t matter as much as everyone thinks and that she can be

Cultural Differences and The Impact On The Communication Process
Alberts, Martin and Nakayama (2011) describe communication as a transactional process in which
people generate meaning through the exchange of verbal and nonverbal messages in in specific
contexts, influenced by individual and societal forces and embedded in culture. (p.7) They then go
on to state that intercultural communication occurs in interactions between people who are
culturally different. (p.122) Cultural differences thus affect many interactions, with the
communication process being one.
The movie that I studied was Django Unchained. It follows a German bounty hunter, Dr. King
Schultz and his recently acquired free slave, Django as they go across America in search of
bounties. They then set out to find and free Django s wife, Broomhilda von Schaft from the evil
clutches of her owner, Calvin Candie. It is set in 1858 in the Deep South, with preliminary scenes
in Old West Texas.
The major role players within this film are Dr. King Schultz and Django. Like sugar and salt, they
are two opposites when they first meet. You have Schultz, a well spoken German bounty hunter
who possess a superior control over his dialect and one who abides by the socially accepted
etiquette with regard to the purchasing of Django, albeit his methods to procure a conversation with
him highly questionable. On the other hand, you have Django, a beat up African American slave
who displays minimal education and command for

Abduction Of The Daughters Of Leucippus
Abduction of the Daughters of Leucippus is an oil painting created by Peter Paul Rubens in
1617. Peter Paul Rubens was a German born Flemish Baroque painter. Baroque is a style that
emphasizes movement, color, and sensuality. His catholic upbringing was influential in his
religious references in his art. He was knighted by Philip IV in Spain and by Charles I in
England. He was quoted saying, My passion comes from the heavens, not from earthly musings.
He began his art apprenticeship at the early age of fourteen. He studied classic Greek and Rome
art and was highly influence by the great Italian artists Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and
Michelangelo. He began his artistic journey by working under Adam van Noort and Otto van Veen.

Ruben s work was highly copied and he was able to establish the copyrights for his prints in
Holland, England, France, and Spain. At the mature age of fifty three, he married his young 16
year old niece. This sexual pervasiveness toward young females were reflected in his work. He
used his niece as an inspiration for the beautiful female figures in many of his paintings. Five years
before his death in 1935, Rubens purchased an estate outside of the Belgian city of Antwerp. He
used the surrounding landscape as an influence in his later paintings. After producing 8 children and
many great works of art, Rubens passed away in 1640 due to complications of heart stemming from
chronic gout.
Abduction of the Daughters of Leucippus by Per Paul Ruben is an oil painting from 1617. Both
young girls have elegant fabric encompassing the back of their legs. Other than the fabric, the
girls are completely nude. Their skin tone is very light, as if they have not seen much sun.
Neither girl is wearing any shoes on their feet. The girl positioned closest to the ground has a
golden blonde braid of hair hanging from her head. The Girl on top has beautifully curled hair.
She also has a white cloth encompassing the uppermost portion of her arm. There is an arm
bracelet around the lower girl s upper right arm. The men are wearing finely crafted shoes or boots.

Advancement in Technology Increased the Use of Fossil Fuel
Throughout its existence, Earth has always satisfied the needs of living things. As time advanced,
so did technology; which increased the use of fossil fuels, mechanics, and more of the Earth s
natural resources. Humans have left their mark in several ways such as, pollution, overpopulation,
and deforestation. Though human efforts have been made to improve our ways of abuse to the earth,
none could entirely secure the damage made. Pollution is, and has always been, a major issue in
the world. It has affected the world on such an immense level that it is considered to be one of the
main FUTURE challenges (SIKM 1). Pollution is the improper disposal of trash and waste items in
an environment along with the admissions of chemicals. Though this seems like a minor situation,
the disposal of trash builds up and contaminates the earth throughout time. There are 3 types of
pollution; Trash (solid wastes), air/carbon, and water (occasionally noise/sound) (Uddin 1). In the
past decade, pollution rates increased; some believe that it has something to do with the population
rates as well. Overpopulationand the continuous population growthhave contributed greatly to the
earth s human impact. Heavily overpopulated areas are considerably more corrupt because of their
effects in the environment and their carelessness toward their own problems. (Cassils 2). As the
numbers go up, so does the need for producing goods, the use of motorized vehicles, and the
operation of buildings and

of Russia, continuing the Romanov rule since 1613. His coronation celebrations saw huge
crowds lining the streets (as seen in source 1). As in the past all Tsars were believed to be chosen

Father . During his first years of Tsar, Russia was ranked among the world s greatest powers; it was
a time of peace and prosperity.

loyalty which was gained through the Russian Orthodox Church. The church taught and

Kings , meaning that the Tsar was appointed by god to rule and he therefor had absolute power.
His absolute power also came from fear, as his secret police, the Okhrana would act viciously to
anyone who opposed the Tsar.
It was in the 1900s when the Tsars rule came into question. At that point in time Russia was at the

Potential Collaborators And Its Effects On Campus Health...
POTENTIAL COLLABORATORS
Potential collaborators in our campaign include on campus health clinics, El Paso public health
clinics, the Texas DSHS, hospitals and medical treatment facilities, and school and local
government policy makers. The various health clinic and medical personnel will be a vital part of
this campaign as they will be the professionals responsible for the administration, testing, reporting
and counseling services necessary to accomplish our mission. Education and local government
policy makers will also be necessary components to ensuring full execution and funding of our
campaign.
El Paso Community College (EPCC) has the largest student body of all the higher education
institutes in El Paso with almost 30k students enrolled annually. EPCC has its own health clinic, Rio
Grande Border Health Clinic, which offers HIV testing upon request. To accommodate a significant
increase in HIV testing during peak times , intricate planning with clinic staff such as human
resources, laboratory staff, nursing and medical staff, as well as purchasing, finance and
reimbursement directors, would be essential. All of these personnel would be highly involved with
the successful implementation of universal HIV testing upon enrollment. Collaboration on staffing
with this institution would be crucial to ensuring temporary provisions are put in place during peak
times of testing such as enrollment and registration periods.

Maximum Safe Velocity On The Car
Maximum Safe Velocity
Scenario 1
The two forces acting on the car when it turns a circular path are centripetal force, FCP , and
friction, Ff . As mentioned in Relevant Physics Topics, the direction of friction opposes the
direction of motion, which, in this scenario, is centripetal force, and because centripetal force
directs towards the center of the circle, friction directs outside of the circle (Madden et al., 2001).
To calculate the safe cornering speed on a level road, centripetal force has to equal friction so that
the vehicle isn t sliding in or out of the road. The formula was developed in Calculation 4 from the
Appendix.
The derived formula was v=в€
љ(Ојs*r*g)
By substituting the numerical values in the equation, the maximum safe cornering speeds were
calculated in following table: *Note: Ојs=0.9 is dry condition, Ојs=0.7 is wet condition
Scenario 2
In this scenario, a vehicle is turning right downwards an incline. In this case, the x component, of
the normal force is greater than centripetal force and the vehicle is wanting to slide down the
incline, towards the center of the curve. However, friction opposes the motion and pull the car up
the incline to keep the car from sliding (Stanbrough, 2006). This is shown in Diagram 3.
Before calculating the maximum speed of safe cornering, the angle Оё needs to be found. This was
done in Calculation 2 from the Appendix.
Using Оё, x and y components were found and substituted to solve v in Calculation 5.
Scenario 3

Race Ethnicity And Gender In The Lowell Factory
While reading the assigned article, I was immediately interested since I am currently learning
about the foundation of women s rights in History. Race ethnicity and gender shaped the
workforce in the early textile mills by paying women half of what they pay males for the same
job. This shows the difference between a primary labor market and a secondary labor market;
The primary market being which men get paid higher wages than those of women. Race also
had an impact on the workforce by immigrants offering to work for such low wages as women
would, sometimes being rejected from any job at all. Women in the Lowell Factory were so
closely supervised because women women who were closely supervised were not able to
organize. Also, they were supervised since that idea appealed to many parents who would send
their daughters to the mills. Some parents would send their daughters to the mills because they
could barely provide for their children. Not many jobs were for women at the time, especially those
that paid a so called good wage.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The economy and industry has grown a lot in the United States since the 1800 s, examples such
as blacks being able to have a wide range of options for job seeking along with women who
gained the same right over time. The labor union membership will always be around since
everybody has different ways of looking at things and have different needs/wants. Overall, I
believe the union membership will fluctuate as the economy does. For example, during a
depression in the U.S. economy the unemployment rate goes down and people lose jobs, which
will cause more people to want to join the labor union as a part of hopefully gaining their job back

There is a large number of species of microbes found on the human body. This bacterial organism
are found in the skin, mouth, or nose. This lab consisted of the collection of skin bacterial
organisms and amplification of the 16s rRNA to construct a small molecular phylogeny of the
human body microbiome, or the community of microorganisms that reside in the epithelia of
humans. This information could only be acquired through processes such as DNAextraction,
amplification of specific genetic target by the polymerase chain reaction(PCR), agarose gel

coli are picked and the plasmids are purified. The purified plasmids are used as a template for the
sequencing reaction. The objective of the lab was to learn how to use the polymerase chain
reaction (PCR) to amplify the small subunit ribosomal RNA gene from a bacteria colony, also be
able to run an agarose gel to visualize the resulting PCR amplifications and extract the amplified
DNA from the agarose gel.
Methods/Materials
There were several steps used to acquire the colony necessary for the PCR. First a student
forearm was swabbed using a cotton swab, the cells were then placed in an agar plate. DNA was
then extracted from the cultured bacteria by using a technique to lyse the cells and solubilize the
DNA, then enzymes were used to remove contaminating proteins. The DNA extraction consisted
of a lysis buffer that contained high concentrations of salt for denaturing. Binding with the use of
ethanol and a washing step to purify the DNA. The final step for the DNA extraction was elution
where the pure DNA was release. Proceeding the extraction of DNA the results of the 16s gene
amplification were examined through gel electrophoresis it was analyzed by estimating the size of
the PCR bands with marker bands. After measuring the success of the extraction, a technique called
TA cloning was started. Cloning of PCR products was done by using partially purified amplified

Alcoholism in Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire
Alcoholism s in A Streetcar Named Desire There is a great deal of alcoholism in the play.
Blanche DuBois drinks often and drinks in excess. Alcohol abuse further distinguishes Blanche s
character because in the 1940s, it was atypical for women to drink so much, and even more rare
for women to be so publically alcoholic as Blanche. Those behaviors were stereotypically reserved
for women. Blanche is very much aware of her problems and her social isolation. She uses her
alcoholismas a way to escape from facing herself directly as well as to escape from other aspects of
her reality that she perceives too difficult to bear or change.
One of the memorable lines from the play of Blanche s is: Whoever you are, I ve always
depended on the kindness of strangers. Blanche could be using the world kindness in an ironic
way; from the kind of treatment Blanche desires and receives, it is likely that she has been
treated the same and worse from other men (and women). Another take on the word kindness in
that famous line is that perhaps she must really depend on strangers to be kind because her
friends and family do not show her kindness. Blanche drinks because of how pessimistically she
perceives herself and perceives her life. She fears and wishes to forget her past, so she drinks in the
present, but drinks to the point where she extinguishes any chance for her future.

Trap Shootings
Trap Shooting Most people don t know this, but a lot of schools have a trap team. BGM has a trap
shooting team called BGM Shotgunners, or BGM Trap Team. Beginners might want to get used to
shooting guns first. They also will want to figure out which brand or kind of gun you like. Other
experienced shooters will just want to buy the gunof their choice. There are trap guns just for trap,
or you can get a 20 gauge or 12 gauge shotgun. The only difference between the two is the recoil
or kick and that one is also heavier than the other because it is more powerful. They also have
different types of glasses for this sport. They each are for a different kind of day. For example
the yellow ones are for a darker cloudier day. Trap shooting originated from England and has been
a largely growing and popular sport ever since. Even though most schools don t have a trap range
or trap field, they may use a range that is open to public schools for shooting practice. Trap
shooting is the oldest shotgun shooting sport in America. People used to use real pigeons for trap
shooting. Back in 1880, George Ligowsky invented the clay target. Later in 1885, the first national

  • 3. Rough Guide To Exoplanets Alex s Rough Guide to Exoplanets Intro By exploring outer space, astronomers have found distant planets, called exoplanets. Properties of these planets can be determined by using various techniques and technology. The definition of an exoplanet is a planet that orbits a star outside our solar system. The first exoplanet was discovered in 1995. Nowadays techniques are becoming more refined and by using them predictions can be made based on the many data points that we have for these planets. For example the presence of certain elements can be detected via spectroscopy and then that data can be used to aid a prediction into a planet s climate. Because there are so many factors that determine properties such as climate the more data gathered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because for a planet to be detected it must have an orbit that transits between the observation point and the star. This means that the planet must orbit in a very specific plane and that the plane becomes smaller for planets that orbit at a greater distance from their host star. So planets that are detected using the transit method are usually planets known as Hot Jupiters . To break down this description it means that these planets are comparable to Jupiter because of their size and density, and are described as being hot due to their closeness to their host star (usually between 0.015 and 0.05 AU) and the high surface temperature that comes with that closeness. Also if the host star is small such as a neutron star then the size of the plane that a transit is visible in is also reduced. Another drawback is that the amount of false positive candidates is higher than many other methods and it s thought that, in some cases, as many as 35% of detected planets from Kepler are false. This means that in some cases follow up investigation is required before a planet can be confirmed. A common source of false positives is caused by fluctuations in the star s brightness which are not caused due to a transiting planet but are often hard to differentiate and so they can cause false negatives ... • 5. Why I Am My Friend Beep, beep, beep. In junior high, I woke up to this sound every morning at 5:30. It was always the same routine: wake up, shower, get dressed, blow dry and straighten my dysfunctional hair, put on makeup, eat breakfast, leave. I spent hours making sure I looked pretty so I could fit in. I felt as if I had to look good to be accepted by the people I called my friends. I was a part of the popular group, and I thought that was who I was. However, no matter how much makeup I put on or how many Hollister t shirts I bought, I was never accepted by my friends because I was always pretending to be someone I wasn t. I have long grown out of this stage; however, the deception that I used when I was in junior high is not uncommon, and almost everywhere we look, we can see other people engaging in deception as well. Although pretending to be someone we are not to fit in is just a single example of deception, it s not hard to see that dishonesty affects the way we live and the way our culture has formed. The concept of deception isn t new to society; lying has been around for ages. People tend to hope that others are telling the truth; nevertheless, most American people have accepted that nearly everyone lies and therefore, that everyone is lied to. Deception is a part of American society and culture, so dishonesty is not destroying America; what s destroying America is the way in which American people use dishonesty. If we turn to recent affairs in American society, we can see how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Is The Critique Of The Marvel Movie Doctor Strange Critique Imagine, that the world you ve lived in, and known for your entire life was; in fact, a completely different world that you knew nothing about at all. A world that consisted of multiple dimensions and sorcerers protecting our world from evils that subsist in other realms. In this exact moment, you could be standing in the middle of a battle happening in a mirror image and not even know it. After viewing Marvel Film Doctor Strange, the graphics will have you questioning if all these things could actually be nonfictional; indeed, you may even find yourself wondering if you too might have the power of mind to enter the Astral Plane. Although the graphics of this film are incredible there are still some faults in this movie pertaining to onscreen relationship connections between certain characters, and the underdevelopment of some characters. Leading role Dr. Strange played by Benedict Cumberbatch was executed perfectly throughout the movie. His character did a full three hundred and sixty degrees turn around during the movie and the buildup during this turn around was very clear, leaving no room for confusion. His character development had some very key moments to keep the audience fully engaged in his healing process. To set the mood for Dr. Strange, they had a moment where Strange had just finished brain surgery and was confronted by Dr. Palmer (Rachel McAdams) for a second opinion about a case that she had, where he, within minutes had resolved and knew how to save ... Analysis Of The Article Basic Writing Through The Back Door In her article, Basic Writing Through the Back Door: Community Engaged Courses in the Rush to Credit Age, Oregon State University professor Cori Brewster reflects on her experiences working with high school and college students in an accelerated summer writing course for college credit. Brewster s reflection is pragmatic and demonstrates the strengths and the weaknesses of the program. She also shares her hopes for the future of similar programs and some suggestions for the improvement of future of dual enrollment, early college, and other similar programs that are a part of the rush to credit trend in secondary and postsecondary education. These features of Brewster s writing show Brewster s careful consideration of her students and of the trend toward underpreparedness that these expedited programs can cause for students when the focus is on hurried matriculation or the numbers instead of students actual needs. With a goal of providing better access to composition instruction for Oregon s rural students in a limited time under restricting conditions, Brewster manages to create a service learningproject that is meaningful for the students and the community. The obstacles they encountered serve to give other teachers in similar programs and other teachers of transitional students with the necessary insights to help make developmental and basic writing programs better. • 9. Free Will and Libertanianism View Whether or not humans have free will is a very popular question. This is because everyone wants to know if the decisions they make are truly theirs or if their decisions matter at all. If everything is predetermined then what you choose wouldn t matter because it would be bound to happen regardless of if you chose it or not. Without free willmany people believe that life would have less meaning to it. With free will comes power and importance. Having the ability to choose what will happen gives humans the possibility of making an impact on the world. As well, people do not really like the idea of having their whole life pre planned without their input. It is almost impossible to say if humans have free will or not. Without concrete evidence there is no proof that we do or do not have free will and it will most likely stay this way for some time to come. I have a libertarianismview when it comes to whether or not humans have free will. I believe in the possibility of free will and I do not accept determinism. Free will is defined as the ability to make decisions at your own discretion. Determinism is defined as the events of the past, in conjunction with the laws of nature, necessitate every event in the future. What determinism means is that past events and the laws of nature are the factors that dictate what decision will be chosen. The libertarianism view accepts incompatibilism. Incompatibilism states that free will and determinism are incompatible and cannot work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, other groups have noted long term improvements in joint pain from glucosamine supplementation alone [8], and further enhanced effectiveness of combined glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate, rather than the separate use of either supplement [5, 9]. The question of their effectiveness in JCT populations is subject to ongoing debate. There has been growing interest in eggshell membrane (EM) supplementation as a treatment for joint pain, as it does not present the side effects of conventional treatments (NSAIDs). Eggshells and their membranes have been extensively analyzed 2 Eggshell Membrane Reduces Joint Pain for their components: the separate layers of the eggshell have been analyzed and found to contain several types of collagen (types X, I, V) [10 12]. Additionally, EM has been found to have notably high concentrations of a number of amino acids [13], collagenlike proteins [14 16], enzymes [17 19] and glycosminoglycans (GAGs). Glycosaminoglycans are of high interest, as they play key roles in connective tissue [20]. Glucosamine, hyaluronic acid and chondritin sulfate are important GAGs in EM (21, 22). With the high protein and enzyme content, and naturally occurring GAGs in EM, scientists and nutritional supplement companies have speculated that it could present ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was no denying that the times were in fact changing and even the great 007 couldn t beat the clock. He had to roll with the punches just like everyone else. Unfortunately, then current James Bond, Pierce Brosnanwas rather discontented with the direction his films had brought the character, relying more on light humor as opposed to the gritty nature of the preceeding films of that time. Brosnan would go on to star in 4 Bond films between 1995 2002. Although he enjoyed the role, he often wished that the storylines given to his respective films were not so outlandish in nature. Searching for the man to follow in Dalton s footsteps would prove to be no daunting task, producers looked no further than the man they had eyed up so many years prior. In the summer of 1994, after Remington Steele had faded from the public eye and had become a relic of the 1980s, Pierce Brosnan was officially announced as the fifth actor to portray James Bond. GoldenEye would go on to be released the following November and would enjoy monumental success, revitalizing public interest in the decades long running series. Be that as it may, by the time of Brosnan s final outing as Bond in Die Another Day (2002) fans had began to once again find cause for discontent with the direction the films had taken. Brosnan s last two films in particular are often noted for their overuse of CGI and some of the most ludacris storylines in the history of the series. Knowing that it was time for another change, Bond producers showed Mr. Brosnan his pink slip after his many years of service and once again hit the reboot button, starting from scratch with Daniel Craig taking the reins ... The loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta caretta, is a threatened species with a highly migratory behavior and shifting habitat requirements depending on maturity (NMFS and USFWS 1998). The loggerhead nesting grounds are typically in warm temperate regions (NMFS and USFWS 1998). In the original listing from USFWS (1978), the loggerhead sea turtle was listed as threatened throughout all of its range. The document goes on to state that one of the main threats to the loggerhead sea turtle was that it was being harvested for the shell or as food; the eggs were considered a desired food item and protein source. These threats include coastal development, erosion control barriers or beach armoring, artificial lighting, pollution, removal of native vegetation, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic (NMFS and USFWS 2007). Some solutions include protecting and managing turtles on nesting beaches, monitor coastal construction, implement lighting regulations, screen artificial lighting with vegetation, and impose regulations on beach armoring (NMFS and USFWS 1998). Predation is an important threat to consider in nesting areas for the loggerhead. Many places have depredation to protect the eggs and hatchlings against predators such as feral dogs, raccoons, and foxes (NMFS and USFWS 2007). The future outlook for the loggerhead turtle has been studied using two analyses, one looked at counts of nesting females and the other analysis was a stage based population model done to look at the anthropogenic mortalities with respect to the vital rates of the species (Conant et al. 2009). Using these analyses, it was determined that for the North Atlantic Ocean DPS there was a greater likelihood of quasi extinction for the Northern Gulf of Mexico ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Managers deal with decision making in every single day of their job. Therefore, they need to make ethical decisions which would benefit their organization. An ethical decision is the one which a reasonable or typical stakeholder would find acceptable because it aids stakeholders, the organization, or society. An unethical decision is one where a manager would have to hide from others because he rejects all ethics that apply in a certain situation in order for him or the organization to benefit at the expense of society or other stakeholders. When manager are trying to determine whether their decision is ethical or unethical, they should ask themselves a certain set of questions. First, a manager should ask themselves if their decision falls in the accepted values or standards that typically apply. Second, they should ask themselves if they are willing to share their decision with all the stakeholders affected by that decision. Finally, managers need to ask themselves if the people with whom they have a strong personal relationship would approve of their decision. (book). The Apology By Bernard Of Clairvaux Luxury played an immense role in medieval Catholicism by taking the focus from God and placing it on the acquisition of riches and glory, which is shown by these sources: The Apology by Bernard of Clairvaux, The Book of Suger by The Abbot Suger and Guilty Pleasures: Luxury in the Middle Ages. These sources demonstrate the exorbitant manner that the churches and monasteries were being built in during that time. This not only drew attention away from the real reason for these buildings, but also was a form of idolatry for these monks, despite the honest intentions of some of them, including the Abbot Suger. In short, so many and so marvelous are the various shapes surrounding us that it is more pleasant to read the marble tanthe books, and to spend the whole day marveling over these things rather than meditating on the law of God 1 Bernard realized that despite their best efforts, the monks of Cluny could not help but be distracted from God by the riches. Therefore, he tries to bring this to attention in his writing. Another criticism that Bernard brings up in his writing is the integration of the Cluniac monks into society. He mentions that the Cluniac monks are using luxury for the acquisition of more riches, as well as for the attraction of more wealthy benefactors. He asks the Cluniac monks what they are expecting to receive for their efforts, Admiration from the foolish? Offering from the ignorant? Or scattered as we are among the gentiles, are we learning their tricks and serving their idols? 1 Bernard brings up a good point, which is that the Cluniac monks are becoming too worldly. They are becoming too focused on the contributions that they will receive from the world, in order to decorate their churches and monasteries. They are forgetting that they became monks to leave the world behind. The Abbot of Suger has a very contradictory view towards the luxury, which he expounds upon in The Book of Suger. He states the reasoning for the beginning of the luxury that was lavished upon the buildings. In the twenty third year of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Dante s Inferno, By Dante Dante s Inferno Throughout the story Dante s Inferno, Dante takes a trip through hell to reach what he calls paradise. During Dante s journey to hell he goes through the nine circles called: limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud, and treachery. With each of the circles in hell , there is a punishment that resembles each of sins committed. Based on the reactions that the pilgrims give through textual conversations between Virgil and Dante. It can be concluded that the pilgrim has acquired knowledge throughout his journey. Dante notifies the readers by saying strayed, leaving the path of truth (Dante 67), which helps the reader comprehend the purpose of his journey throughout the book. Agreeing to the text, Dante tried to climb a hill that would lead him to paradise, but could not be obtained anything because the book state s the beast was there blocking his way (Dante 68) meaning Dante. Since the beast would not allow Dante to pass, it was understood that in order to move higher, one must achieve the understanding of the process. In this case, Dante would have to go through an external place (Dante 71) to achieve getting to his paradise. Dante gives some types of hints, giving away that the pilgrims has also committed sins, but does not go in depth on what it is he has committed to actually go to hell and redeem himself so he can go to paradise or in other words heaven. It started out as a black and white film and was originally produced by Metro Goldwyn Meyer. Judy Garland is playing the role of Dorothy Gale, who in this film is a restless bored young girl that wants something other than the dreary life she lives in Kansas, (Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014, Ch. 4.3 para. 1,2) This film focuses on the power of the imagination and gives a place for mental escape and relaxation. The power of the imagination is demonstrated throughout this entire film. It begins with Dorothy ended up in a place called Munchinland that has little people, and is filled with colors and excitement, the opposite of Kansas where everything is black and white. The most magical scene is the scene when Dorothy and her dog, The Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Scary Lion meets the Wizard. When they arrive to their destination an image of a man appears during a blazing fire and thick smoke, and he speaks with authority and control. The fear in Dorothy and her friends is overwhelming to them, especially for the scary lion who faints before he can speak. Mockingbirds don t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy . . . but sing their hearts out for us. That s why it s a sin to kill a mockingbird. This is when the idea of the mockingbird being a symbol throughout the novelcomes into play. Throughout To Killa Mockingbird, Harper Lee paints a picture of certain characters being mockingbirds. Many invented these counterfeit stories of how he was a murderer, or that his intentions were to harm others. Harper Lee writes, According to Miss Stephanie, Boo was sitting in the living room cutting some items from the Maycomb Tribune to paste in his scrapbook. His father entered the room. As Mr. Radley passed by, Boo drove the scissors into his parent s leg, pulling them out, wiped them on his pants, and resumed his activities. This is never proven within the book, nor is it proven wrong. However, Boo was always in isolation, and Mr. Radley wanted to make sure no one in the town even thought he was there, and would not let Boo communicate with the outside world. Harper Lee also explains that the children think Boo is six and a half feet tall, dined on rodents and felines that he caught, and thought that his teeth were rotten and hands bloodstained. Or to be more intricate, The business cycle is the periodic but irregular up and down movement in economic activity, measured by fluctuations in real gross domestic product (GDP) and other macroeconomic variables, (Inc.com). A business cycle is comprised of four stages: recovery, peak, recession, and trough. In the recovery, the economy is growing. It is commonly indicated by a bull market. The recovery is the increase in the rate of economic activity established by a moderate to low unemployment percentage, towering development, and swelling prices. The next phase of the business cycle is the peak. The peak is the most desired stage for it is the superior point of the cycle. So if a new attack comes and if a security measure is developed against the attack, then it should be updated in each and every network device in a network, which will be a very tedious job to do. This is the current trend running in the networking environment. In our project we are implementing these security measures over SDN, as it provides a centralized controller for the network. If we just configure these security measures in the centralized controller, then the entire network, which is under the control of this particular controller, can be secured. Thus it saves a lot of time and effort. I believe Dimmesdale s internal battle with his shame is far worse than Hester s outward shame because it is unbearable, as mentioned by Kilborne. An interesting idea brought up by Kilborne is how both Hester and Dimmesdale personify their sin. He questions why Dimmesdale is forced into seclusion from shame as it reaches to the depths of his soul if Hester is able to embrace her sin and shame and hold them up as realities. Before looking at this more closely, the way people perceive shame is an important factor. Kilborne mentions, In this context, shame can be a fundamental reaction to (and a defense against) wrong feelings, or being helpless in the face of the intensity of feelings, or being flooded by feelings one cannot understand. He himself did not chew tobacco, but it did give a broader horizon of how he can distribute and earn the money by selling the good. This act was commonly known as the Tobacco Counterblaste. An example of such, is the Headright System. Since the king ruling at the time wanted to expand his horizons he began with sending a group of colonizers to the New World. In the past when he had began to do so, only 20% of the colonizers survived. So with his authority and better judgment, the King began to give anybody 58 acres to anyone that volunteered to go on the voyage to the New World Another Social reason is because of the number of Native Americans decrease do to social events that the European. When Europeans began to trade with the Native they trade utensils and clothing that had germs and diseases attached that the Natives were not attached to, so before the colonies came along 1/10 Natives died from natural diseases. When the europeans came along however the number jump to 8/10 so instead of decimation it had jumped to octomation. The third reason was because of trade. When the Europeans first settle they traded money, but when they came across the Natives they traded something of the same worth as stated above in Economics. So the Indians with the New technology that the Europeans carried over, started to gain the habits and way of the settlers. Property became a major problem between tribes, and who had access to what hunting grounds, since they now had guns they had a new way to intimidate or scare of other tribes, therefore starting a new rebellion between more tribes. The reason is because of the florida Colonization. Juan Ponce de LeГіn in 1513 founded what was perceived to be by present day St. Agustine. He named it Pascua florida ( feast of the flowers). In 1539 Hernando de Soto began another expedition in search of gold and silver which landed him near present day Tallahassee. Two of the main problems that we face with the American Prison System are overcrowding of the jails and the way the inmates are treated. There has also been a problem with the joint planning and budgeting among the different agencies of the American Prison System. According to the textbook (Abadinsky, 2015), when this occurs, the system is known to not be systematic. Years after the establishment of the first prison, the new Auburn prison system came about in New York, in the early 1820s (Fraser Freeman, 2012). The aim of this essay is to point out the reasons behind this decrease and to reflect on the future of the employment in the sector. First aspect is to analyze the impact of more competitive prices of labour in developing countries and social consequences of depending on this model. Moreover, to understand this shift in labour structure, it is important to look closely into governmental policies regulating relations, particularly concerning trade, with those emerging markets. The final aspect is to consider the future possibilites for the employees in the industry, especially concerning advantageous position of developed countries in matters like implementation of innovative policies or easier access to advanced technologies. Though human efforts have been made to improve our ways of abuse to the earth, none could entirely secure the damage made. Pollution is, and has always been, a major issue in the world. As mentioned in Relevant Physics Topics, the direction of friction opposes the direction of motion, which, in this scenario, is centripetal force, and because centripetal force directs towards the center of the circle, friction directs outside of the circle (Madden et al., 2001). To calculate the safe cornering speed on a level road, centripetal force has to equal friction so that the vehicle isn t sliding in or out of the road. The formula was developed in Calculation 4 from the Appendix. The derived formula was v=в€ љ(Ојs*r*g) By substituting the numerical values in the equation, the maximum safe cornering speeds were calculated in following table: *Note: Ојs=0.9 is dry condition, Ојs=0.7 is wet condition Scenario 2 In this scenario, a vehicle is turning right downwards an incline. In this case, the x component, of the normal force is greater than centripetal force and the vehicle is wanting to slide down the incline, towards the center of the curve. However, friction opposes the motion and pull the car up the incline to keep the car from sliding (Stanbrough, 2006). This is shown in Diagram 3. • 54. The Community of Microorganisms that Reside in the... There is a large number of species of microbes found on the human body. This bacterial organism are found in the skin, mouth, or nose. This lab consisted of the collection of skin bacterial organisms and amplification of the 16s rRNA to construct a small molecular phylogeny of the human body microbiome, or the community of microorganisms that reside in the epithelia of humans. This information could only be acquired through processes such as DNAextraction, amplification of specific genetic target by the polymerase chain reaction(PCR), agarose gel electrophoresis, restriction enzyme digestion, cloning of DNA fragments into plasmid vector, transformation and blue/white clone colony screening. Through the phylogenetic tree analysis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... coli are picked and the plasmids are purified. The purified plasmids are used as a template for the sequencing reaction. The objective of the lab was to learn how to use the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to amplify the small subunit ribosomal RNA gene from a bacteria colony, also be able to run an agarose gel to visualize the resulting PCR amplifications and extract the amplified DNA from the agarose gel. Methods/Materials There were several steps used to acquire the colony necessary for the PCR. First a student forearm was swabbed using a cotton swab, the cells were then placed in an agar plate. DNA was then extracted from the cultured bacteria by using a technique to lyse the cells and solubilize the DNA, then enzymes were used to remove contaminating proteins. The DNA extraction consisted of a lysis buffer that contained high concentrations of salt for denaturing. Binding with the use of ethanol and a washing step to purify the DNA. The final step for the DNA extraction was elution where the pure DNA was release. Proceeding the extraction of DNA the results of the 16s gene amplification were examined through gel electrophoresis it was analyzed by estimating the size of the PCR bands with marker bands. After measuring the success of the extraction, a technique called TA cloning was started. Cloning of PCR products was done by using partially purified amplified products with ... • 55. Alcoholism in Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire Alcoholism s in A Streetcar Named Desire There is a great deal of alcoholism in the play. Blanche DuBois drinks often and drinks in excess. Alcohol abuse further distinguishes Blanche s character because in the 1940s, it was atypical for women to drink so much, and even more rare for women to be so publically alcoholic as Blanche. Those behaviors were stereotypically reserved for women. Blanche is very much aware of her problems and her social isolation. She uses her alcoholismas a way to escape from facing herself directly as well as to escape from other aspects of her reality that she perceives too difficult to bear or change. One of the memorable lines from the play of Blanche s is: Whoever you are, I ve always depended on the kindness of strangers. Blanche could be using the world kindness in an ironic way; from the kind of treatment Blanche desires and receives, it is likely that she has been treated the same and worse from other men (and women). Another take on the word kindness in that famous line is that perhaps she must really depend on strangers to be kind because her friends and family do not show her kindness. Blanche drinks because of how pessimistically she perceives herself and perceives her life. She fears and wishes to forget her past, so she drinks in the present, but drinks to the point where she extinguishes any chance for her future. Stanley Kowalski is a controlling, aggressive, dominant man. His worst features come to surface when he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Trap Shootings Trap Shooting Most people don t know this, but a lot of schools have a trap team. BGM has a trap shooting team called BGM Shotgunners, or BGM Trap Team. Beginners might want to get used to shooting guns first. They also will want to figure out which brand or kind of gun you like. Other experienced shooters will just want to buy the gunof their choice. There are trap guns just for trap, or you can get a 20 gauge or 12 gauge shotgun. The only difference between the two is the recoil or kick and that one is also heavier than the other because it is more powerful. They also have different types of glasses for this sport. They each are for a different kind of day. For example the yellow ones are for a darker cloudier day. Trap shooting originated from England and has been a largely growing and popular sport ever since. Even though most schools don t have a trap range or trap field, they may use a range that is open to public schools for shooting practice. Trap shooting is the oldest shotgun shooting sport in America. People used to use real pigeons for trap shooting. Back in 1880, George Ligowsky invented the clay target. Later in 1885, the first national trap shooting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each one is played or shot differently. Skeet uses the same clay targets as trap, except there are two trap houses. The one on the right is called the low house and the right one is called the high house . High house targets start about 10 feet off the ground and move to the shooter s right. The low house targets start about 3 feet off the ground and move to the shooter s left. A skeet field has eight positions, almost in the middle of the two trap houses. Some positions offer single targets, others doubled. There are sixteen single targets, one from each position. The first missed target is repeated, it is called the optional . If no miss occurs in a round or twenty four shots, the optional is taken as a single target, usually shot from position ...
