The Mass Medi The Failure Of The Mass Media
The general population consists of seven billion people across the earth. The majority of the
individuals partake in receiving knowledge from those whose job it is to relay pertinent day to day
information to the general public. This minority is known as the mass media, and it is much larger
than simply journalism. The mass mediais the newspaper, television, Video games, novels,
textbooks, and social media. Essentially any medium that is consumed excessively by the
majority public is known as a mass media. The most important of the mass media s is journalism
and reporting; the relaying of information from the reporters to the population. For years,
controversy was a serious part of the debate for what could not be shown, what could be, how far
journalists are allowed to go to get their information. Then, the SPJ: Code of Ethics emerged,
giving guidelines for journalists and reporters on how to seize, utilize, and properly report on
subjects at hand. However, journalists and reporters time and time again have deserted their code
of conduct. For instance, the New Republic s Stephen Glass did this via bypassing fact checkers
and creating fictitious news stories. This led to the downfall of the New Republic s reputation,
along with ending the career of Stephen Glass. Though the exact same is not being done with
reporting politics, their use of power has become an arbitrary system, where they decide what suits
their own political standing and showing the information in such a

Analysis Of The Movie Demi Lovato Essay
After Leaving Disney, Demi Lovato has become one of pop cultures leading motivational figures.
Taking a stand and talking to Congress about un smearing mental illness. Singing songs about self
acceptance and openly discussing her struggles with bipolar disorder, bulimia, and substance
abuse. Lovato has become confident with the person she is now and hopes that by opening up
about her darkest time she can reach out to others who are fighting the same fight. At only 18
years old, Lovato became overwhelmed with the work, popularity, and media attention she was
attracting being a successful actress, singer, song writer, and charity spokesperson. Being a pop
star with problems finally became obvious the summer of 2010, backstage after a concert, Lovato
attacked one of her back up dancers. She was sent to rehab where the truth was revealed that she
had stopped eating regularly, taken up drinking, drugging, self harm and purging. Lovato completed
a three month course at Timberline Knolls; an in patient treatment center, which specializes in
helping women with eating and mood disorders. After being released Lovato went on Good
Morning America and discussed everything that had happened, knowing her story was too public to
hide. Even tweeting about rehab and openly sharing the fact that she had been staying in a sober
living facility. She put herself out there in a way that was not about attention getting and more
about self discovery. She explained how her unhealthy relationship

Analysis Of The Book Diary Of A Madman
Lu Xun was one of the first prominent writers of modern china. He uses an ironic technique in
the preface by writing in classical Chinese language to suggest a false, friendly world made
exclusively by social appearances. The traditional Chinese text is typically seen as superior, and
as per the Chinese traditions the modern language is seen as an intruder. The author s use of the
style was a way of making a point. Diary of a Madman is a short story written by Lu Xun and
was published in the new youth magazine in 1918 (231). The story demonstrates his discontent
with traditional Chinese culture, not only by the fact that it clearly addresses the horror of
cannibalism that is believed to have occurred but he is also trying to point out the oppressive
nature of Confucian principles. In the short novel, the madman has the ability to recognize the
cruel elements of Chinese Confucian culture that serves to mock established but out dated
traditional scholarship. In the story Diary of a Madman, the protagonist of the diary talks about
his how he thinks other people perceive him. He sees that the individuals are giving him abnormal
looks; as though they were attempting to scare him or as though he had perpetrated some serious
crime. When I made my way out the front gate this morning ever so carefully there was something
funny about the way the venerable old man Zhao looked at me: seemed as though he was afraid of
me and yet, at the same time, looked as though he had it in

The Illusions Of Education In Plato s The Republic
In the Republic, Plato starts his argument by saying that education in music and poetry should
occur before any physical training. This is due to the fact that our mental abilities develop much
faster than our physical strength. We use our brains to analyze the world around us by listening
and learning from others. When we re younger, our brains are more malleable and easier to
manipulate. As children, we re more likely to believe every story we hear because we don t know
any better. Since children don t know the difference between what s allegorical and what s the truth,
everything presented to them is the truth. Plato expresses his concern for this, as most of the
stories children hear include arguing and punishment. Children will then take this as the truth
and view fighting as a normal and a reasonable way to solve conflict. This is what makes
narrative art and drama dangerous for children, who more or less start off as decent people but
are then corrupted by the allegories they hear during their childhood. Adults, on the other hand,
can still be corrupted by narrative art, though it s not as simple. Art uses illusions to make one
ignore the truth. Plato uses the example of a stick looking crooked when it s in water. Despite
our knowledge of the fact that the stick is indeed straight, we still see it as bent. The same
concept applies to illusions in art. As Plato describes, while we know that a trompe l Е“il painting
is two dimensional, we still see the objects within the painting as three dimensional. We can walk
into an art gallery with the pre conceived notion that every painting is in fact only two dimensional,
and still fall victim to the illusion. This, Plato states, is because it appeals to the inferior part of the
human soul. It ignores truth and measurements and is irrational to the point where it shouldn t
make sense. We re drawn to this inferior part of our soul as it allows us to rebel in ways that
wouldn t be deemed moral in other regards.
Poets, Plato believes, work in the same way as trompe l Е“il paintings. They are presented in one
way but represent something completely different. Poets create images that are far removed from
the truth , therefore indulging the irrational part of the

Infrared Radiation And Thermal Radiation
All objects that have a temperature greater than 0 degrees celsius emit thermal radiation.
Thermal radiation is the process by which energy, in the form of electromagnetic radiation, is
emitted by a heated surface in all directions and travels directly to its point of absorption at the
speed of light; thermal radiation does not need an intervening medium to carry it.Thermal radiation,
process by which energy, in the form of electromagnetic radiation, is emitted by a heated surface in
all directions and travels directly to its point of absorption at the speed of light; thermal radiation
does not need an intervening medium to carry it.
The amount of thermal radiation given off by an object is the amount of heat an object gives off.
Heat is the quality of being hot; high temperature. Heat is the amount of energy an object has.
When molecules get more energy then heat is created. The more molecules an object has the more
heat that the object gives off.
The temperature of an object is the measurement of how hot or cold it is, measured in degrees
Celsius (В°C). Temperature can also be measured in a Fahrenheit scale, named after the German
physicist called Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit (1686 1736). It is showed by the symbol F . In
Fahrenheit scale, water freezes at 32 В°F, and boils at 212 В°F. In Celsius scale, water freezes at
0В°C and boil at 100В°C. A thermometer measures the amount of heat in an abject.
When an object s temperature reaches a certain point it will go through a

Dehumanization In If This Is A Man By Primo Levi
In the book If This Is a Man , Primo Levi shows us what life within the Nazi concentration camp is.
As the book title indicates, the book focuses on the underestimated delicateness of the human
condition, ...learnt that our personality is fragile (61) and how the Nazis used oppression to destroy
what makes us human. Levi, throughout the book uses characterization in portraying the
dehumanization that occurred within the camp. These acts of dehumanization by the Nazis began
even before Levi and his traveling companions set foot into the camp. The killing of Jews who got
off one side of the train, especially the children were seen as a historical necessity by the Germans
and it began the dehumanization of the Jews entering the camp, that would later be reinforced by
the removal of personal items which helped remove the defining characteristics of each person.
Levi portrays the dehumanization that occurs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elias is the most physical of the Haftlings, to the extent where Levi calls him physically
indestructible (103) because of his ability to do work with such dexterity and ability. He is a
thief by nature and he steals as fatally...as a stone drops and as such his methods of survival are
not based on caring qualities. Instead, Levi explains that Elias has such extreme physicality of
body and the lunacy of mind, that he has been able to resist the destruction afflicted on him by
the camp. Elias is the most adaptable , is most suited to this way of living (103), Elias is a survivor.
It is therefore, hard to imagine Elias having a normal life outside of the Lager. Would he have a
family? Would he live a normal life? Most likely not, if he were free he would most likely be place
in a prison or a mental ward because of the instability of his mind. Having said that Elias s lunacy
does not count as lunacy within the camp as they are wholly devoid of free will (104) and as such

Forced Vital Capacity Case Study
Purpose and Prediction In this study I am observing the effects of gender on forced vital
capacity (FVC) and the relationship between torso length, height, and torso/height ratio on
forced vital capacity. To look at FVC I am interested in looking at the largest amount of air a
person can forcefully exhale and continue exhaling for 6 seconds after breathing in as deeply as
a person can. If gender has an effect on FVC then males will have a greater FVC than the FVC
of females. If there is a correlation between height and FVC, then as height increases so will FVC.
If there is a correlation between torso length and FVC then the longer a torso the greater the FVC
will be. If there is a correlation between torso/height ratio and FVC then the greater... Show more

Mahatma Gandhi s Indiana Independence Movement
Though the two never met in person, it s no secret that Martin Luther King Jr drew much
inspiration from Mahatmas Gandhi and his teaching on non violence and peaceful protest. He
described the concepts of satyagraha as profoundly significant to him. Satyagraha, a term though of
and developed my Gandhi during the Indiana Independence Movement, literally translates to truth
insistence and, according to Gandhi, meant love force or soul force (Gandhi qtd. In Webel 513).
The major principles of the concept included nonviolence(or, ahimsa), truth, chastity (both sexual
chastity was well a chastity from other sensual desires ), nonstealing, body and bread labor, control
of appetites, fearlessness, respect for all religions, economic strategy, and elimination of the caste
system (Webel 513).
Gandhi believed that in order to uphold these rules, he and his followers must have a faith in God,
believe in truth and nonviolence, lead chaste lives free of alcohol or substances, and be willing to
die or lose all possessions, be willing to go to jail and, one imprisoned, obey jail rules (unless they
are abusive to a prisoner s self respect), and must harbor no anger (Webel 513). Follower of... Show

segregated American south. He was initially introduced to Gandhi s teachings at Crozer Theological

they co hosted this party every year. They also had a lake in their backyard. I brought my
bathing suit. I wasn t planning on swimming, but Reiner told me it was a swimming party, so it
would be strange not to bring a bathing suit. We pulled up by a nice looking home with many
cars already parked by. The three of us got out of the car, and walked up the driveway to the back
yard. There were maybe twenty people here already. I recognized some faces, but I didn t know
any of their names because they were just faces I had seen in the hallway. Hey Reiner, Hey

Gilgamesh Categories
As we look back in time, ages ago, humans had organized ways of living. Scientist have found
that it is easiest to classify their body into seven categories. These categories consist of urban
focus, new political and military structures, new social structure based on economic power, the
development of more complexity in a material sense, a distinct religious structure, the
development of writing, and new and significant artistic and intellectual activity. Each of these
categories played a key role in the effectiveness in which their societies were ran. We have been
able to find evidence from as far back as 250,000 years ago. In the beginning the societies that
developed up in Mesopotamia were agriculturally centered. They were not very populated. At first
we relied primarily on our own skills of hunting animals for their meet and picking berries and
plants along the way. Which forced the Hunter Gatherers from the Paleolithic Age to continually be
on the move. Eventually they learned the glory of cultivating their own crops and growing the food

What Is The Example Of Nepotism
In Philippine politics, the ultimate goal is to have professional officials in the government so
that the country will be ruled properly and be successful. For this to be achieved, officials who
are in high positions should give power to those who are responsible enough and can prove that
they are worthy of their given position. But in reality, this ideal image is somehow violated
because of nepotism. Nepotism is defined as favoritism shown by somebody in power to relatives
and friends, especially in appointing them to good positions. Regardless of the capability and
capacity to work in the workplace, officials preferably appoints or promotes their relatives in good

Disability By Nancy Mairs
To Live Disabled In Nancy Mairs article for The New York Times, Disability , published in
1987, she expresses her distaste with the media s representation of handicapped people. Mairs,
who struggled with multiple sclerosis herself, clearly and sharply conveys this disgust by
stating, I m not, for instance, Ms. MS, a walking, talking embodiment of a chronic incurable
degenerative disease. (Mairs 13), and that she is actually, the advertisers dream: Ms. Great
American Consumer. And yet the advertisers, who determine nowadays who will get represented
publicly and who will not, deny the existence of me and my kind absolutely (Mairs 14). Mairs is
greatly upset that disabled people are defined by their disabilities and, therefore, are
underrepresented in public media. This might lead to one asking themselves, but why are they?
And the answer, according to Mairs, is quite simple, To depict disabled people in the ordinary
activities of daily life is to admit that there is something ordinary about disabilityitself, that it may
enter anybody s life (Mairs 14). Mairs concludes by pointing out how this effacement could have
dangerous consequences for both disabled people and, as she called everyone else, TAPs
(Temporarily Abled Persons) alike. Treating disabilities as an abnormal characteristic (as opposed
to viewing them as a normal characteristic, one that complicates but does not ruin human existence
(Mairs 15)) can cause one of these repercussions, as it makes the

John Williams Influence On Music
Could you imagine Jaws or Star Wars without their award winning music scores? These particular
films follow a distinct successful trend having to do with the iconic duo: director Steven Spielberg
and film composer John Williams, who have also worked together on E.T. the Extra Terrestrial,
Jurassic Park, the Indiana Jones movies, and countless other famous movie titles. Musicis the world
s most universal language. By itself, it can invoke emotions and create topics of discussion, but
music influences movies more than people think. Music in movies is extremely effective and can
help establish the tone and mood of any scene or setting with, speed and slow time even with no
music, help the audience characterize and connect with characters, and involve and affect the
audience mentally and emotionally.
When put to film, music can help establish the tone and mood for any setting. Music can
especially help distinguish the type of film. For example, comedic movies typically have more
ridiculous, fast paced, cartoon like music while romantic films may have more orchestral and
lyrical music. The tone of a scene can be emphasized as well. Eerie, dark music played during an
intense scene will build tension, but a celebration s music will be kept light hearted to show the
atmosphere of the event. Music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

example, many people find children s songs terrifying. This is often taken advantage of and
horror film directors use warped lullabies to feed off fear which in turn, intensifies the scenes.
Music can also be used in symbolizing the importance of certain events or the music itself can be
a symbol: a song on the radio that played just before a car accident can trigger any survivors if
they hear it again or a mother and father fall in love again when they hear the song they danced to

What Is The Idiographic Approach To Study Personality
1)In the idiographic approach to studying personality, the goal is to understand all the specific
details, factors and characteristics that make up the personality of a specific individual. There are
three different kinds of traits in this approach, central traits, secondary traits, and cardinal traits.
These three types allow psychologists to identify traits that are the most important to understanding
an individual, traits that are vary in when/how they are revealed, and single traits that completely
dominate a personality. To study personality using this approach, psychologists read case studies or
have participants complete surveys. In the nomothetic approach, rather than focusing on the traits
that can be applied to a specific individual, the focus is on finding traits that can be applied to all
people. There are three approaches that are used, often in combination. The theoretical approach
begins with a theory, which is then used to determine which variables or traits are important. The
lexical approach starts with a lexical hypothesis, and is a good starting point for identifying
important trait terms and important individual differences. Lastly, the measurement approach starts
with a diverse pool of personality items and the goal is to identify major dimensions of personality.
Factor analysis can be used to group items together, determine what variables belong on the same
group, and is helpful in reducing a large assortment of diverse traits into smaller, useful

Increase In Weight Training
For some reason, this myth about bulking up continues to stick around even though there is plenty
of scientific research to dispel it. For starters, women do not produce enough testosterone in order to
gain significant amounts of muscle mass. In addition, consider the fact that men have 10 to 30
times more testosterone (i.e., the primary musclebuilding hormone) than women and some men still
have difficulty putting on muscle (I ll get to that in another column).
Weight training will increase lean muscle mass, but not to any degree that should cause fear in
women. What often happens to women (and men) when they begin a weight training program is
that their muscles begin to store more carbohydrates in the form of muscle glycogen. As a result ...

I recommend that women start out by using a dumbbell (or pulley machine in a gym) that allows
you to complete 10 12 repetitions with perfect technique in a controlled manner. Basically, if
you are able to perform two to three sets of 12 repetitions of an exercise, you should increase the
resistance for the next workout by about five percent for the upper body and by 10 percent for
the lower body. These increases should continue to challenge you, but in a safe and manageable
progression. Women need to challenge themselves. Using the little pink, 3 pound dumbbells for
the majority of exercises will not provide enough stimulus to the nervous and muscular systems.
Some women s handbags weigh nearly 15 20 pounds and they carry them all day so why would
you go to the gym and only lift three pounds?

The Pros And Cons Of Social Stereotypes
Stereotype threat is a social phenomenon where a member of a negatively stereotyped group
performs poorly when reminded of that stereotype (Beilock, Jellison, Rydell, McConnell, Carr,
2006). For example, previous studies have shown that when primed with a negative stereotype
African Americans perform worse on intellectual tasks (Steele, Aronson, 1995), and women
perform worse at math (Spencer, Steele, Quinn, 1999). The main component of stereotypethreat is
that it impairs working memory(Schmader, Forbes, Johns, 2008). Working memory is a short term
memory system that is involved in the control, regulation, and active maintenance of a limited
amount of information with immediate relevance to the task at hand (Miyake Shah, 1999). So
essentially as one works on a task, working memory keeps all the important information ready for
quick access, which is crucial for performance in almost every domain. Previous studies have
shown that working memory capacity is a direct mediator between stereotype threat and impaired
mental performance (Schmader, Johns, 2003). At a cognitive level, working memory is a limited
capacity resource that can become depleted if it is attending to multiple domains. If depleted there
is less capacity available to control a task s execution and information processing demands
(Schmader, Johns, 2003). Many different studies have contested how it is that stereotype threat
impairs performance. For example, in Steele and Aronson s

Slavery In Clarkson s Essay By Thomas Clarkson
Clarkson s Essay is a narrative by Thomas Clarkson to show his audience the reality of what
slavery is and the terrible conditions they are living in. He scouted England over seven years to get

slaves on the hell ships that were barely surviving. Clarkson questions the faith of the slave traders

Street Racing Persuasive Essay
Street racing has become very popular among teenagers and young adults. Many of whom don t
have the years of driving experience but they still prefer to do it just for the sake of fun. Street
racing has been around for years, but recently Hollywood and the media have had the interest in
entertaining us with this concept so they decided to make TV shows and movies like Fast and the
Furious . They make it seem fine to street race in neighborhoods, but they don t show the dangers

take place. After all, street racingis illegal. Not only is the media fascinating us with street racing,

As it becomes more and more common, Hollywood and the media will continue to entertain
people with this concept because every year we see a new series of Fast and Furious movies.
Teenagers and young adults also need to realize the dangers associated with this sport. In my
opinion, we should educate our children about the responsibilities that come with the driver s
license. If the young adults make a bad choice, it not only affects them but also their parents
community as a whole. The mortality rate of those killed by automotive accidents needs to
drop. The only possible way of achieving such a goal is by educating the drivers. Street racing is
not a new thing. It has been going on since cars were invented and it is not limited to any
demographic. A lot of people argue that street racing is fun because they enjoy the thrill of
speed. If the authorities are going to legalize street racing in the future, then they may want to
look into working with a private venue to provide a suitable location for the competitions. Also,
the authorities need to make sure that if an individual is interested in street racing, then he or
she will use proper safety equipment prior to racing. These special equipments will help save his or
her life in case of an accident. By having races at local drag strips will also help to save many
precious lives because every day we hear the news about someone who s died because of a street
racer. If one does not see these safety measurements acceptable, then there is no need to be racing.

Living In Shanty Town
Have you ever in your life been dirt poor? Have you ever had to scavenge for things to trade or to
build your house with? The people of Shanty Town have been scavenging for a little while now.
Everyone who lives in Shanty Town has to scavenge for scrap so that they can trade that scrap for
food and maybe even clothes if the right person comes through town. It is 2030 and a devastating
thirteen year world war has left many countries to collapse and left in trash and ruins. It has only
been two years since they remaining countries (China, Russia, Germany, and Japan) have signed a

Issues Around Child Sexual Exploitation
This assignment is going to cover the issues around child sexual exploitation. The assignment is
going to use different sources such as an online journal database and library to look into and create
a better understanding of any links between child sexual exploitation and runaway children. For this
assignment I will be switching between first and third person to provide background information on
how I attained my sources.
A recent news article (The Guardian,2015) describes how police in the south west region of
England have an inconsistent response to child sexual exploitation. Her Majesty s Inspectorate of

To conclude this assignment there are ongoing investigations into the links between sexual
exploitation and runaway children. Whilst schools and other organisations are taking further notice
of issues revolving around children and sex abuse. Currently schools are being encouraged to cover
further aspects of sex and relationship education(SRE).
I believe that the education of sexual exploitation and overcoming sexual exploitation is
increasingly important especially as sexual abuse cases rise, the number of child sexual abuse
reported to the police has soared from 5,557 cases in 2011 to 8,892 in the last year . (Travis, 2015)

Literature Review On Abacus
CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Introduction
2.1.1 What is Abacus?
Greek words abax or abakon with the meaning table or tablet are the origin of the word Abacus
(Schools, 2007; Young, 2004). According to Young (2004) abacus is a mathematical device or tool
used by the people for performing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Far before the invention of modern computers, abacus has been widely used especially by the
Chinese people for the calculation purposes. The very first abacus was invented around 500
B.C.(UCMAS, 2007). However the modern abacus that we know today was the one been used in
China started around 1300 A.D.(UCMAS, 2007).

The main advantage of mobile educational game is that it enables the users to learn in non
classroom environment such as home and public areas (Kim et al., n.d. ). Besides, mobile games
are interactive because mobile games enabled players to interact with the games environment and
thus make the games more interesting and the players have the sense of engagement which will
draw their attention (Miangah Nezarat2, 2012). Besides, mobile games help people to save
money as they do no need to purchase an expensive console or computer in order to play the
games (Paper, 2009). Furthermore, mobile phone is convenient to bring around and thus increase
the mobility (Shameem, 2012). Mobility as mentioned above is the main reason why people play
mobile games as compared to other digital gaming (Fritsch et al., n.d.).
2.4.3 Disadvantages
The main disadvantages of mobile educational games is the distraction factors. When children plays
with the mobile phones, they will face the distraction with the incoming calls or messages and also
they will also tend to play with casual and entertainment based games as compared to educational
games when they play alone without the guidance of the parents (Fritsch et al., n.d.).

Child Labor Research Papers
Child labor is an important issue, that many people are not aware of. Child labor is occurring in
many countries, and we need to prevent it. I know some people may disagree with me, but child
labor is a serious issue. Children who work at a young age are more likely to quit school early,
they work in toxic hazardous conditions, and they receive harsh punishment from their employers.
Americans should not support businesses that use child labor to make goods because if they do
they would be encouraging the use of children to work day and night making products to please
other countries. Children s developmental process is hurt if they start working at a young age.

This means that shocks that force parents to send their children to work might have a permanent
effect on the child s future earning potential, (Child labor: myths, theories, and facts). When
children start working early in their childhood, it is most likely that they are in poverty and trying to
support their families, but by working at such a young age is taking away from the children s
developmental process. When children do not attend school anymore, to work they are losing a
lot of their potential. Americans should not support businesses where children have to quit school

poverty, or difficult living situations/conditions. Child labor tend to be a phenomenon related to

Analysis: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

ENG 125 Introduction to Literature
Instructor Alfaro
April 18, 2011
The short story that I will do an analysis on is the Secret Life of Walter Mitty, written by James
Thurber in March of 1939. This story centers around the hilarious and amusing daydreams of Walter
Mitty an ordinary man, who resides in Waterbury, Connecticut, with his overbearing, nagging wife
Mrs. Mitty. Throughout this short story Mitty is characterized as being a pathetic, timid man, who
daydreams to deal with situations, and conflicts that arise in his life with his wife and others he
encounters on a daily basis.

Mitty s second daydream occurs after he drives past a hospital on his way to the parking lot, he
thinks he is a famous surgeon, heroic character, who saves the day. Mitty is awakened from his
daydream only to be told by the parking attendant that he is entering the parking lot the wrong
way. Third daydream, Mitty daydreams that he is a witness in a courtroom trial, walking down the
street trying to remember the other item his wife instructed him to buy. The fourth and final
daydream Mitty thinks he s a captain in a war plane, he was awakened by his wife, Mrs. Mitty in
a hotel lobby and confronted about not wearing his overshoes, and why he hiding in that particular
chair, Mitty replies to his wife that does it ever occur to her that he is thinking. (Clugston, 2010).
Mitty is saying to his wife, he has a mind of his own and that he can think for himself.
Throughout Mitty s babblings and day dreams, he is a weak, timid man dependent on a strong
woman (Mann, 1982). Most importantly I can identify with Mitty s daydreaming not as hilarious
and outrageous as his are, but we all have a need to slip away from the hoarse realities of life and
escapism in the form of daydreaming.

Menstrual Cycle
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.0 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Menstrual cycle is a process experienced by every female at one point in their life cycle. In the
olden days a young lady experiences her first menstruation in her late teens or early twenties. In
recent times, however, some begin their menstrual cycle as early as nine years. The age at
menarche (the first time a girl or a young woman menstruates) is widely considered as an important
landmark in sexual maturity. However it varies widely between the same people. These variations
has been attributed to a number of possible causes such as; advancement in technology, health care
delivery, weather and climate change, food, daily activities, socio economic activities, lifestyle and
many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite variability, most normal cycles range from 21 to 45 days, even in the first gynaecologic
year, although short cycles of fewer than 20 days and long cycles of more than 45 days may
occur. Because long cycles most often occur in the first 3 years post menarche, the overall trend
is toward shorter and more regular cycles with increasing age. By the third year after menarche,
60% to 80% of menstrual cycles are 21 to 34 days long, as is typical of adults. An individual s
normal cycle length is established around the sixth gynaecologic year, at a chronologic age of
approximately 19 or 20 years.
Two large studies, one cataloguing 275947 cycles in 2702 females and another reporting on
31645 cycles in 656 females, support the observation that menstrual cycles in girls and
adolescents typically range from 21 to approximately 45 days, even in the first gynaecologic
year. In the first gynaecologic year, the fifth percentile for cycle length is 23 days and the 95th
percentile is 90 days. By the fourth gynaecologic year, fewer females are having cycles that
exceed 45 days, but anovulation (the state of not ovulating because of a medical condition,
suppression by drugs or menopause) is still significant for some, with the 95th percentile for cycle
length at 50 days. By the seventh gynaecologic year, cycles are shorter and less variable, with the
fifth percentile for cycle length at 27 days and the 95th percentile at only 38 days. Thus, during the
early years after

Aladdin The Musical Reflection
The theater was largely attended by children and toddlers. To my surprise, I noticed that there were
a decent number of adults attending the show too. I was not sure if they were dragged into the
show by their own children or that they came to watch the performance willingly. Unfortunately, I
was dragged into the theater to watch Aladdinthe Musical with my younger siblings during a

Allusions In Frankenstein
All literature has an underlying message of a constant battle between the forces of good and the
forces of evil. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is no different. The forces of supposed good and evil
come to clash with the persistent battle between Dr. Frankenstein and his monster. This conflict
between the two forces can be seen to represent the forces of God and Lucifer (or the Devil), as
both the literary and religious characters share a number of characteristics. Mary Shelley, in
Frankensteinuses symbolism and allusions to portray Dr. Frankenstein and the monster as God and

The Fundamentals of Merchandising
The Principles of Merchandising
The past decade has witnessed sea change in the world of retail, of which increasing competition is
just one aspect. New and emerging technologies and customers fragmentation has made it even
more difficult for retailers to retain consumers who are loyal to their stores. Walters and Hanharan
have identified four key elements of the strategic direction that are retailer may take, they are: *

Among all the elements of retail strategy, that of merchandising is becoming increasingly

The structure of the merchandising department largely depends on the organizational structure
adopted by that particular retail organization. Many organizations may also have a position known
as a Purchase Agent. Purchase Agent and Buyers commonly focus on routine purchasing tasks,
often specializing in a commodity or a group of related commodities, such as steel, cotton, grains,
fabricated metal products, or petroleum products. Purchase Agents usually track market conditions,
price trends, or futures markets.
The Merchandiser, on the other hand, is responsible for particular lines of merchandise. For
example, in a departmental store, there may be merchandisers for menswear, women swear,
children s wear, etc. The basic duties of the merchandiser can be divided into four areas: planning,
directing, coordinating and controlling as follows: 1. Planning. Though merchandisers may not be
directly involved in the actual purchase of merchandise, they formulate the policies for areas in
which they are responsible. These include forecasting sales for the forthcoming budget period,
which further involves estimating consumer demand and the impact of changes in the retail
environment. These sales forecasts are then translated into budgets to help the buyers to work
within the financial guidelines. 2. Directing. Guiding and training buyers as and when the need
arises is also a function of the merchandiser. Many a times, buyers

Los Angeles Lakers Business Analysis
Alternatives
The organisational structure of the Los Angeles Lakers is a product based, divisionalised structure.
It is currently divided into four departments as illustrated in Figure 1 (see Appendix). Each
department affects the organisation mutually, as a whole and interchangeably (Lussier Kimball,
2004). This organisational structure has proven to be very successful for the Lakers in the past,
grouping its resources respectively in order to ensure accountability at every level.
Alternative1 = Functional Structure (Change)
George, Jones Sharbrough (1996) suggested using a functional structure when organisations can
departmentalise group jobs based on similar functions. These departments can include a wide range
of groups such as, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This alternative could help larger organisations, in the case of the L.A. Lakers, become more
practical and logical in their approach (Browning, 1991; Morgan, 2014). Research by Ghiselli
Johnson (1970) and Hinings (1992) suggests that a flatter organisation provides more satisfaction
amongst employees, and a greater sense of commitment and fulfillment.
The main advantage associated with this alternative is that it creates better communication between
employees (Browning, 1991; Suttle, 2016). Furthermore, the morale of the workforce will be
increased, notably amongst the high achievers of the organisation (Hinings 1992; Suttle, 2016). An
organisation that adopts a flatter structure is also considerably less bureaucratic, thus resulting in a
quicker decision making process (Suttle, 2016). Aside from quicker decisions, the ConnectUs
(2015) website review also highlights that fewer organisational layers result in less wages to pay,
therefore salary related expense are reduced and enable the organisation to save

Examples Of Violence In A Painted House
3.3.2 Effect of Violence on Luke Chandler
Violence is one of the main themes in the whole novel and there are different instances of the use
of violence that have diverse features. As Luke is the main character in Grisham s novel, and he is
characterized from the author s perspective, he is at the center of the events that deal with violence,
or he is one of or the only witness of such acts. In A Painted House, Luke experiences verbal,
physical, and psychological violence, and all these instances have different impact of the main
protagonist.
Verbal violence can be seen from the beginning of the novel when Luke is confronted by one of
the workers for the Chandlers. One day, Hank Spruill, one of the hill people who work for the
Chandlers, comes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Luke s family employs Hank, and Luke should feel superior to Hank. This order by Hank is as
an instance of verbal violence as he wants to show this superiority, hence Luke must obey his
orders because Hank is older and stronger than Luke, and the protagonist has to show respect to
older people. Luke does not know Hank that well, and he is afraid of what he might do if Luke
does not bring Hank some water. After some deliberation, Luke does what he is asked: My
hands shook as I poured the water into a glass. I knew that when I reported this, it would cause
trouble. My father would have words with Leon Spruill (Grisham 22). This shows that Luke is
intimidated by Hank s tone of voice and he does not feel well doing this, which is obeying to
one of the employees of the family. Luke is still a young boy and he is afraid of Hank who is
much older than him. This instance of the use of verbal violence can be treated as symbolic
violence as well. In case, it is related to power and it does not involve any physical contact as
Hank shows that he is older and has more power than Luke, and Hank does not pay any attention to
the fact

The Goal By Eliyahu M. A Brief
I chose to read the book, The Goal by Eliyahu M. Goldratt. The book is about a plant manager,
Alex Rogo, who is trying to save his plant from getting shut down by using the help of physicist,
Jonah, and the Theory of Constraints. I can see the benefits of this book in different areas, not
only in the ability to increase productivity in any company, but also using the ideas in all other
areas of your life. I personally had a difficult time understanding this book. It took me reading it,
then going back and re reading part of it, to really understand how to apply the concepts.
However, I do finally get it. The two key things that I enjoyed about the book are dependent
events in relation to statistical fluctuations and bottlenecks vs non bottlenecks. When reading
the chapter about dependent events in relation to statistical fluctuations , Goldratt use the
example of a Boy Scouts hiking trip, where the slowest boy was in the back, and one of the
faster boys were in the front. One would think that this was a great idea and would help them get
to their destination fast, but in reality it did the exact opposite. It made the process much slower,
because the boy in the front set the pace for the rest of the group, but because the rest of the
group had slower paces, they were unable to keep up with the demand, if you will, which resulted
in a gap in the line. These gaps in the line caused the last person in the line, which happened to be
Alex, to have to wait on the rest of

Value Chain Analysis By Jim Riley
Jim Riley published study notes about value chain analysis and he teaches that value chain analysis
describes the activities that take place in a business and relates these activities to an analysis of the
competitive strength of the business. This paper includes comparing and contrasting two articles.
The first article is The 7 Steps of Software Development Case Study Chapter 1 but the second one
is ValueChain Analysis by Jim Riley. Also, these two articles will be applied to the company Pep
Boys, which I chose to do the value chainanalysis to. Since I do not work yet, I chose Pep Boys
because my close friend works there as a vice president of marketing. There are seven traditional
steps that can go bad in a software development project but if you follow all these steps than your
software project is going to be in a better shape and it should not have that many crashes. The first
step is preliminary investigation or analysis, where software developers and project managers
clarify the requirements to project sponsors. Second is specification and requirements analysis,
which involves taking the requirements and describing them in a way meaningful to programmers.
The third step is design or architecture, which gets into more low level details. The next step is
where the program is built, also called as development or coding. The fifth step is testing and
documentation, which makes sure that the program functions as required and that the program s
functionality is

Alchemy In Symology
Magic follows certain rules in The Name of the Wind. The University is where you go to learn
magic, Sympathy, Artificery, Alchemy and Naming (my favorite). You work your way up; E lir,
Re ar, El the and Arcanist. In Sympathy the user needs to create a sympathetic link but the link
needs energy. It s like energy manipulation, the sympathist s body or an energy source. Artificery is
like creating things such as tough glass, salt pumps or sympathy lamps which involve using
Sympathy. Alchemy is like taking something ordinary and turning it astonishing. Primarily you re
taught the principles and use of alchemy, basically label clearly. Measure twice. Eat elsewhere.
Master Mandrag. (The Name of the Wind ) Naming, probably one of the most exciting magic s
taught at the University. Naming is being able to know what created and made that subject, its true
name. You have the waking mindand the sleeping mind in the sleeping mind is where you can find
the true name. When Kvothe first called the name of the wind, he was left with a storm in his head.

create magical beings to help protect the world; Gandalf who is an Istari. Bran told Maester

How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Influence Renaissance Art
Renaissance painting and sculpture produced in Europe during the historical Renaissance is
considered to cover at least 200 years between 1400 and 1600. The word renaissance is derived
from the French and translated literally means rebirth. The Renaissance period in art history
resembles a time during the western age of discovery and exploration. Art and sculpture, during this
time, became appreciated as a personal manner of communication and expression. Sculptors were
the first to present new Renaissanceforms during the early 15th century. The oldest sculptor was
Filippo Brunelleschi. Brunelleschi later became an architect and was widely known for designed
the octagonal dome of FlorenceCathedral which was completed in the year 1436. Brunelleschi is
known for developing a linear perception in art which has remained a fundamental creation and is...

Renaissance spread all throughout Italy, France, and northern Europe. After this time, there was a
rise in the interest of classical learning and values and the time period created an environment of
growing prosperity and knowledge. Overall, art during the Renaissance age did an excellent job at

Essay on Bricolage Fashion

Retro. Non moderns use bricolage to fashion new tools from available objects...Consumers fashion
new identities from the resources available to them (Ratneshwar, 2000:132). Fashion designers find
their inspiration from the past and combine styles to create new designs that are seen as different
and inventive. However, many people argue that so many designers use materials, looks and styles
from the past that they are re using fashionin a continuous cycle and are no longer being original

The Myths of Vietnam Essay
Contending versions of the Vietnam War and the antiwar movement began to develop even before
the war ended. The hawks version, then and now, holds that the war was winnable, but the press,
micromanaging civilian game theorists in the Pentagon, and antiwar hippies lost it. . . . The doves
version, contrarily, remains that the war was unwise and unwinnable no matter what strategy was
employed or how much firepower was used. . . Both of these versions of the war and the antiwar
movement as they have come down to us are better termed mythsthan versions of history because
they function less as explanations of reality than as new justifications of old positionsand the
emotional investments that attended them (Garfinkle, 7).

George Bush s promise not to make Kuwait another Vietnam in 1991.
Bill Clinton s attempts to avoid military service and whether those attempts were justified.
Comparisons between Gulf War Syndrome and Agent Orange related health problems among

Continuing questions about whether N.A.T.O. involvement in the former Yugoslavia could become
another Vietnam.
While the controversy over the war has often been reduced to simplistic pro war or anti war
arguments as illustrated in the opening quotation, a more nuanced reading of post war literature
shows many more areas of controversy. All of these controversies cross over from hawks to doves
and back again. Much of the post war controversy over Vietnam can be summarized in four myths .
The first myth is that the micormanaging civilians in Washington lost an otherwise winnable
conflict. A second myth deals with the degree to which the radical, countercultural anti war
movement forced President Nixon to end the war. A third is the Rambo myth which claims that
American prisoners of war were kept in captivity in Southeast Asia after the cessation of American
military involvement and may still have been imprisoned into the 1990s. And lastly, we will
examine the myth that the US government would never knowingly harm its soldiers.
These four myths have been examined in numerous books published since the end of the

Technology And Its Impact On The Medical Field
In the world we live in today technology is always advancing; having many great effects in our
personal lives and in the medical field, one of which being the technical advances on magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI). MRIs have been a great resource for us to use to help diagnose
people in a way we have never been able to before. A magnetic resonance imaging scan uses a
large magnet, radio waves, and a computer to create a detailed cross sectional image of the
patient s internal organs and structures, (Lam). Being able to examine patients in a noninvasive
way and take pictures of what their organs look like is a huge medical advance proving to us that
we can help diagnose more people in a less harmful way and are able to treat them faster and
give them a better prognosis. But we cannot forget what came before the MRI, which was
nuclear resonance imaging (NMR). NMR is the key piece to magnetic resonance imaging and if
it weren t for the discovery of NMR and it s many uses we wouldn t have MRI scanners. The
evolution of MRIs has left a profound impact on the scientific community, particularly in the field
of medicine. Before bringing up the topic of MRI scanners it would be useful to have some
background information on the science behind it all. Starting with nuclear resonance imaging, what
it is, the discovery itself, and how it became relevant to the topic of MRI scanners. NMR
spectroscopyis the use of NMR phenomena to study the physical, chemical, and biological

  • 2. The Mass Medi The Failure Of The Mass Media The general population consists of seven billion people across the earth. The majority of the individuals partake in receiving knowledge from those whose job it is to relay pertinent day to day information to the general public. This minority is known as the mass media, and it is much larger than simply journalism. The mass mediais the newspaper, television, Video games, novels, textbooks, and social media. Essentially any medium that is consumed excessively by the majority public is known as a mass media. The most important of the mass media s is journalism and reporting; the relaying of information from the reporters to the population. For years, controversy was a serious part of the debate for what could not be shown, what could be, how far journalists are allowed to go to get their information. Then, the SPJ: Code of Ethics emerged, giving guidelines for journalists and reporters on how to seize, utilize, and properly report on subjects at hand. However, journalists and reporters time and time again have deserted their code of conduct. For instance, the New Republic s Stephen Glass did this via bypassing fact checkers and creating fictitious news stories. This led to the downfall of the New Republic s reputation, along with ending the career of Stephen Glass. Though the exact same is not being done with reporting politics, their use of power has become an arbitrary system, where they decide what suits their own political standing and showing the information in such a ... • 3. Analysis Of The Movie Demi Lovato Essay After Leaving Disney, Demi Lovato has become one of pop cultures leading motivational figures. Taking a stand and talking to Congress about un smearing mental illness. Singing songs about self acceptance and openly discussing her struggles with bipolar disorder, bulimia, and substance abuse. Lovato has become confident with the person she is now and hopes that by opening up about her darkest time she can reach out to others who are fighting the same fight. At only 18 years old, Lovato became overwhelmed with the work, popularity, and media attention she was attracting being a successful actress, singer, song writer, and charity spokesperson. Being a pop star with problems finally became obvious the summer of 2010, backstage after a concert, Lovato attacked one of her back up dancers. She was sent to rehab where the truth was revealed that she had stopped eating regularly, taken up drinking, drugging, self harm and purging. Lovato completed a three month course at Timberline Knolls; an in patient treatment center, which specializes in helping women with eating and mood disorders. After being released Lovato went on Good Morning America and discussed everything that had happened, knowing her story was too public to hide. Even tweeting about rehab and openly sharing the fact that she had been staying in a sober living facility. She put herself out there in a way that was not about attention getting and more about self discovery. She explained how her unhealthy relationship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of The Book Diary Of A Madman Lu Xun was one of the first prominent writers of modern china. He uses an ironic technique in the preface by writing in classical Chinese language to suggest a false, friendly world made exclusively by social appearances. The traditional Chinese text is typically seen as superior, and as per the Chinese traditions the modern language is seen as an intruder. The author s use of the style was a way of making a point. Diary of a Madman is a short story written by Lu Xun and was published in the new youth magazine in 1918 (231). The story demonstrates his discontent with traditional Chinese culture, not only by the fact that it clearly addresses the horror of cannibalism that is believed to have occurred but he is also trying to point out the oppressive nature of Confucian principles. In the short novel, the madman has the ability to recognize the cruel elements of Chinese Confucian culture that serves to mock established but out dated traditional scholarship. In the story Diary of a Madman, the protagonist of the diary talks about his how he thinks other people perceive him. He sees that the individuals are giving him abnormal looks; as though they were attempting to scare him or as though he had perpetrated some serious crime. When I made my way out the front gate this morning ever so carefully there was something funny about the way the venerable old man Zhao looked at me: seemed as though he was afraid of me and yet, at the same time, looked as though he had it in ... • 5. The Illusions Of Education In Plato s The Republic In the Republic, Plato starts his argument by saying that education in music and poetry should occur before any physical training. This is due to the fact that our mental abilities develop much faster than our physical strength. We use our brains to analyze the world around us by listening and learning from others. When we re younger, our brains are more malleable and easier to manipulate. As children, we re more likely to believe every story we hear because we don t know any better. Since children don t know the difference between what s allegorical and what s the truth, everything presented to them is the truth. Plato expresses his concern for this, as most of the stories children hear include arguing and punishment. Children will then take this as the truth and view fighting as a normal and a reasonable way to solve conflict. This is what makes narrative art and drama dangerous for children, who more or less start off as decent people but are then corrupted by the allegories they hear during their childhood. Adults, on the other hand, can still be corrupted by narrative art, though it s not as simple. Art uses illusions to make one ignore the truth. Plato uses the example of a stick looking crooked when it s in water. Despite our knowledge of the fact that the stick is indeed straight, we still see it as bent. The same concept applies to illusions in art. As Plato describes, while we know that a trompe l Е“il painting is two dimensional, we still see the objects within the painting as three dimensional. We can walk into an art gallery with the pre conceived notion that every painting is in fact only two dimensional, and still fall victim to the illusion. This, Plato states, is because it appeals to the inferior part of the human soul. It ignores truth and measurements and is irrational to the point where it shouldn t make sense. We re drawn to this inferior part of our soul as it allows us to rebel in ways that wouldn t be deemed moral in other regards. Poets, Plato believes, work in the same way as trompe l Е“il paintings. They are presented in one way but represent something completely different. Poets create images that are far removed from the truth , therefore indulging the irrational part of the ... The amount of thermal radiation given off by an object is the amount of heat an object gives off. Heat is the quality of being hot; high temperature. Heat is the amount of energy an object has. When molecules get more energy then heat is created. The more molecules an object has the more heat that the object gives off. The temperature of an object is the measurement of how hot or cold it is, measured in degrees Celsius (В°C). Temperature can also be measured in a Fahrenheit scale, named after the German physicist called Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit (1686 1736). It is showed by the symbol F . In Fahrenheit scale, water freezes at 32 В°F, and boils at 212 В°F. In Celsius scale, water freezes at 0В°C and boil at 100В°C. A thermometer measures the amount of heat in an abject. As the book title indicates, the book focuses on the underestimated delicateness of the human condition, ...learnt that our personality is fragile (61) and how the Nazis used oppression to destroy what makes us human. Levi, throughout the book uses characterization in portraying the dehumanization that occurred within the camp. These acts of dehumanization by the Nazis began even before Levi and his traveling companions set foot into the camp. The killing of Jews who got off one side of the train, especially the children were seen as a historical necessity by the Germans and it began the dehumanization of the Jews entering the camp, that would later be reinforced by the removal of personal items which helped remove the defining characteristics of each person. To look at FVC I am interested in looking at the largest amount of air a person can forcefully exhale and continue exhaling for 6 seconds after breathing in as deeply as a person can. If gender has an effect on FVC then males will have a greater FVC than the FVC of females. If there is a correlation between height and FVC, then as height increases so will FVC. • 9. Mahatma Gandhi s Indiana Independence Movement Though the two never met in person, it s no secret that Martin Luther King Jr drew much inspiration from Mahatmas Gandhi and his teaching on non violence and peaceful protest. He described the concepts of satyagraha as profoundly significant to him. Satyagraha, a term though of and developed my Gandhi during the Indiana Independence Movement, literally translates to truth insistence and, according to Gandhi, meant love force or soul force (Gandhi qtd. In Webel 513). The major principles of the concept included nonviolence(or, ahimsa), truth, chastity (both sexual chastity was well a chastity from other sensual desires ), nonstealing, body and bread labor, control of appetites, fearlessness, respect for all religions, economic strategy, and elimination of the caste system (Webel 513). Gandhi believed that in order to uphold these rules, he and his followers must have a faith in God, believe in truth and nonviolence, lead chaste lives free of alcohol or substances, and be willing to die or lose all possessions, be willing to go to jail and, one imprisoned, obey jail rules (unless they are abusive to a prisoner s self respect), and must harbor no anger (Webel 513). These categories consist of urban focus, new political and military structures, new social structure based on economic power, the development of more complexity in a material sense, a distinct religious structure, the development of writing, and new and significant artistic and intellectual activity. Each of these categories played a key role in the effectiveness in which their societies were ran. We have been able to find evidence from as far back as 250,000 years ago. In the beginning the societies that developed up in Mesopotamia were agriculturally centered. They were not very populated. For this to be achieved, officials who are in high positions should give power to those who are responsible enough and can prove that they are worthy of their given position. But in reality, this ideal image is somehow violated because of nepotism. Nepotism is defined as favoritism shown by somebody in power to relatives and friends, especially in appointing them to good positions. • 16. Disability By Nancy Mairs To Live Disabled In Nancy Mairs article for The New York Times, Disability , published in 1987, she expresses her distaste with the media s representation of handicapped people. Mairs, who struggled with multiple sclerosis herself, clearly and sharply conveys this disgust by stating, I m not, for instance, Ms. MS, a walking, talking embodiment of a chronic incurable degenerative disease. (Mairs 13), and that she is actually, the advertisers dream: Ms. Great American Consumer. And yet the advertisers, who determine nowadays who will get represented publicly and who will not, deny the existence of me and my kind absolutely (Mairs 14). Mairs is greatly upset that disabled people are defined by their disabilities and, therefore, are underrepresented in public media. This might lead to one asking themselves, but why are they? And the answer, according to Mairs, is quite simple, To depict disabled people in the ordinary activities of daily life is to admit that there is something ordinary about disabilityitself, that it may enter anybody s life (Mairs 14). Mairs concludes by pointing out how this effacement could have dangerous consequences for both disabled people and, as she called everyone else, TAPs (Temporarily Abled Persons) alike. Treating disabilities as an abnormal characteristic (as opposed to viewing them as a normal characteristic, one that complicates but does not ruin human existence (Mairs 15)) can cause one of these repercussions, as it makes the ... These particular films follow a distinct successful trend having to do with the iconic duo: director Steven Spielberg and film composer John Williams, who have also worked together on E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, the Indiana Jones movies, and countless other famous movie titles. Musicis the world s most universal language. By itself, it can invoke emotions and create topics of discussion, but music influences movies more than people think. Music in movies is extremely effective and can help establish the tone and mood of any scene or setting with, speed and slow time even with no music, help the audience characterize and connect with characters, and involve and affect the audience mentally and emotionally. When put to film, music can help establish the tone and mood for any setting. Music can especially help distinguish the type of film. For example, comedic movies typically have more ridiculous, fast paced, cartoon like music while romantic films may have more orchestral and lyrical music. The tone of a scene can be emphasized as well. • 19. What Is The Idiographic Approach To Study Personality 1)In the idiographic approach to studying personality, the goal is to understand all the specific details, factors and characteristics that make up the personality of a specific individual. There are three different kinds of traits in this approach, central traits, secondary traits, and cardinal traits. These three types allow psychologists to identify traits that are the most important to understanding an individual, traits that are vary in when/how they are revealed, and single traits that completely dominate a personality. To study personality using this approach, psychologists read case studies or have participants complete surveys. In the nomothetic approach, rather than focusing on the traits that can be applied to a specific individual, the focus is on finding traits that can be applied to all people. There are three approaches that are used, often in combination. The theoretical approach begins with a theory, which is then used to determine which variables or traits are important. The lexical approach starts with a lexical hypothesis, and is a good starting point for identifying important trait terms and important individual differences. Lastly, the measurement approach starts with a diverse pool of personality items and the goal is to identify major dimensions of personality. Factor analysis can be used to group items together, determine what variables belong on the same group, and is helpful in reducing a large assortment of diverse traits into smaller, useful ... For starters, women do not produce enough testosterone in order to gain significant amounts of muscle mass. In addition, consider the fact that men have 10 to 30 times more testosterone (i.e., the primary musclebuilding hormone) than women and some men still have difficulty putting on muscle (I ll get to that in another column). • 21. The Pros And Cons Of Social Stereotypes Stereotype threat is a social phenomenon where a member of a negatively stereotyped group performs poorly when reminded of that stereotype (Beilock, Jellison, Rydell, McConnell, Carr, 2006). For example, previous studies have shown that when primed with a negative stereotype African Americans perform worse on intellectual tasks (Steele, Aronson, 1995), and women perform worse at math (Spencer, Steele, Quinn, 1999). The main component of stereotypethreat is that it impairs working memory(Schmader, Forbes, Johns, 2008). Working memory is a short term memory system that is involved in the control, regulation, and active maintenance of a limited amount of information with immediate relevance to the task at hand (Miyake Shah, 1999). So essentially as one works on a task, working memory keeps all the important information ready for quick access, which is crucial for performance in almost every domain. Previous studies have shown that working memory capacity is a direct mediator between stereotype threat and impaired mental performance (Schmader, Johns, 2003). At a cognitive level, working memory is a limited capacity resource that can become depleted if it is attending to multiple domains. If depleted there is less capacity available to control a task s execution and information processing demands (Schmader, Johns, 2003). Many different studies have contested how it is that stereotype threat impairs performance. For example, in Steele and Aronson s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If the young adults make a bad choice, it not only affects them but also their parents community as a whole. The mortality rate of those killed by automotive accidents needs to drop. The only possible way of achieving such a goal is by educating the drivers. Street racing is not a new thing. It has been going on since cars were invented and it is not limited to any demographic. A lot of people argue that street racing is fun because they enjoy the thrill of speed. If the authorities are going to legalize street racing in the future, then they may want to look into working with a private venue to provide a suitable location for the competitions. Also, the authorities need to make sure that if an individual is interested in street racing, then he or she will use proper safety equipment prior to racing. In the olden days a young lady experiences her first menstruation in her late teens or early twenties. In recent times, however, some begin their menstrual cycle as early as nine years. The age at menarche (the first time a girl or a young woman menstruates) is widely considered as an important landmark in sexual maturity. However it varies widely between the same people. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite variability, most normal cycles range from 21 to 45 days, even in the first gynaecologic year, although short cycles of fewer than 20 days and long cycles of more than 45 days may occur. Because long cycles most often occur in the first 3 years post menarche, the overall trend is toward shorter and more regular cycles with increasing age. By the third year after menarche, 60% to 80% of menstrual cycles are 21 to 34 days long, as is typical of adults. An individual s normal cycle length is established around the sixth gynaecologic year, at a chronologic age of approximately 19 or 20 years. Two large studies, one cataloguing 275947 cycles in 2702 females and another reporting on 31645 cycles in 656 females, support the observation that menstrual cycles in girls and adolescents typically range from 21 to approximately 45 days, even in the first gynaecologic year. In the first gynaecologic year, the fifth percentile for cycle length is 23 days and the 95th percentile is 90 days. By the fourth gynaecologic year, fewer females are having cycles that exceed 45 days, but anovulation (the state of not ovulating because of a medical condition, suppression by drugs or menopause) is still significant for some, with the 95th percentile for cycle length at 50 days. I was not sure if they were dragged into the show by their own children or that they came to watch the performance willingly. Unfortunately, I was dragged into the theater to watch Aladdinthe Musical with my younger siblings during a family outing in Disneyland. I tried my best to spot other adolescents in the theater. However, it felt like I was the only one. Embarrassed, I sat in deeper into my seat, hoping that no adults could find and criticize me. Aladdin the Musical uses the same plot from the movie, Aladdin as a foundation for their own plot. The plot is about how a thief was destined to be the prince of Agrabah with the help of a powerful genie and how an evil vizier named Jafar desired to take over the kingdom of Agrabah by abusing the genie s powers. As the emcee made his announcements, I assumed that I would fall asleep on the cushioned seat from all the boredom I would experience from a children s fairytale.
