Making a film, whatever the type – short, animatic etc. has been very popular in
modern society. Due the technological advance we’re at media has made it very
easy for anyone to make a film, from creating films scripts to creating animation
films on tablets.
From researching, watching various short videos on film techniques and reading I
have understood the key factors of making a film and how important they were to
theprocess of film making,
1. Script writing, to produce a film you must have creative skills in story telling,
to write a story to capture your audience; because behind every film is a
script where all theideas come from.
2. Pre- production is when you have to finalize scripts and assign casts, the
budgets for setting, securing the props and permits for locations and
schedules. This is essentially everything you must do before filming, because
having everything done and organized makes it easier to film and for it to
run smoothly.
3. Cinematography is the camera work and lighting usage for the film. A film
must have perfect lighting and camera angles because behind them are
semiotics which audience can read through. This will tell the story in the
greatest way possible.
4. Directing – for your film to work the director should take control of what
she/he is doing, they must have strong leadership skills to control the
setting, characters and making important decisions. The director should
more importantly get along with everyone, having great relationships with
colleaguesmakes it easier to come up with ideas when producing etc.
5. Editing is very important, especially if your film is going to be in genres such
as action, fantasy or sci-fi etc. Editing expresses your film better than the
initial. Editing involves adding in VFX, diegetic sounds and green screening
etc. it makes your story come alive in more ways imaginable.
6. Casting is very important for the director in pre-production, because for a
character to come alive in film, the actor/actress must suit it perfectly that
the audience can imagine. Also casts can give feedback on the character
they’re playing, improving and extending the films character thus adding to
theirperformance further.
7. Marketing and distributing a film is very important, like The Dark Knight Rises
Again was prompted vastly by the promotions, adverts and merchandise; it
was sold to the audience. When marketing, it must correlate to your
audience like The Dark Knight Rises Again used many techniques and reached
out further to their audience, to kids by toys and airing it out during the
summer holidays and to ‘nerds’ by their encryption codes etc. Distributing
your film well would gainattentionfrom audiences to watch it.
