This lighting plan document outlines the lighting setups for various scenes in the horror film "Indelible". It describes using natural lighting mixed with strobe lights for the opening credits scene to create an eerie effect. Subsequent scenes include an adoption meeting with the mother lit from the side, Madeline unpacking in her new bedroom lit from boxes beside and above her, a flashback surgery scene lit around the surgical bed, and a tea meeting with dramatic lighting changes between Madeline and her mother's faces. The lighting is designed to subtly reveal clues about Madeline's backstory and the dark influence of her doll.
2. This is our opening credit scene,
where the camera ‘walks’ smoothly
towards a metal door where our title
”Indelible” will appear on it.. The
camera shoots from the floor slowly
panning towards the metal door
where our title will later appear.
As the camera is walking down the
ramp, the lights on top will be
flickering. To do this, we will be
using the natural lighting in the area
and strobe lights. This was to create
an eerie daunting effect for our
horror film.
The beginning of our film is very
important for our viewers to
understand as this is the place
where Madeline has her procedure
done and returns to when she
suffers her flashbacks.
3. This scene starts off where
Madeline is in the corner of an
office with the mother and social
worker talking opposite each other.
This is the scene where mother
adopts Madeline and we find out
more about Madeline's past.
The lights will be placed beside the
parent, where we will only see the
side of the social workers face and
the mother. The lights are natural
to show an equilibrium in our film,
a happy start where mother adopts
Madeline.
4. This is the scene where Madeline
enters her new bedroom and
starts to unpack her box. The
lights will be beside her to show
the importance of what she’s
doing, as she discovers the doll in
the box.
We will be using box lights beside
and on top of her so we can show
how vulnerable Madeline is. This is
so it can foreshadow the effects
the doll gives her. These are the
flashbacks which are making her
vulnerable and urging her towards
her ‘bad’ side.
5. This scene is featured in the
flashbacks Madeline has, when she
begins to unpack her box and sees
her doll. The flashback is of the
surgery room, where she’s getting the
procedure done.
The lights will be beside Madeline,
around the surgical bed. This is
because we will be zooming in to her
hands, legs thrashing and the surgical
equipment. This is so the audience
can see her struggle and what’s
happening as we create enigma
surrounding Madeline. Where the
audience wonders more about her
past.
6. This scene is where Madeline and
her mother sit down together for
tea. When the mother comes in,
the lights will be beside her and on
top of the camera.
We would have a tall professional
light box and one small light box..
This would be for example when
mother tells Madeline about
Samantha. This is where the
lighting would be directed to
Madeline's face to show her shock
to the news so the audience can
scrutinize her reaction.
The light will also turn low key, to
represent Madeline’s true feelings
about the arrival of her new sibling;
the anger and jealousy as
Samantha is already viewed as
‘better’ then her.
7. This is after tea when Madeline
walks up the stairs with the doll
in her hand, where she hits it
along the barristers as she's
going up.
We used high key lighting when
she walks up the stairs from
below, to hint the power
Madeline has.
When the camera zooms into
her doll, the lighting will change
to low key. This is to show the
dark entity within the doll, so the
audience can slowly figure out
the doll will be involved in
Madeline’s plan.
