Honor Home Program Analysis
The next few programs require a conical amount of supervision than the aforementioned, and are
generally more lenient and flexible with the length of stay. Firstly, Y Passages program is another
program specifically for men. Applicants may have already been through one of the other programs
offered by the Y , but it is not required. These applicants generally are self sufficient, but may need
additional support to fully realize their goals and residents may stay for six to nine months. Whereas,
the Honor House is a residential program specifically designed for veteran men who are chemically
dependent. Qualifications for this program include the individual being deemed benefit eligible by the
Lebanon Veterans Association. Generally, the Y will accommodate the length of time per the needs of
the veteran.
There is a D.U.I. II program for both men and women at the Y . This is the program that I became
most familiar with for two reasons. One being that I had been through a similar program myself,
nearly a decade ago, therefore I feel that I have a unique opportunity with expressing genuine
empathy. The second is that during my internship, I spent a cornucopia of hours of ... Show more

Modified Work Schedule
Running head: MODIFIED WORK SCHEDULE Modified Work Schedule Nadia Green Baker
College Center for Graduate Studies BUS 615 Abstract When employees are satisfied the organization
benefits in many ways in that satisfied employees are more committed to the organization. They are
likely to have less absenteeism, fewer grievances or engage in negative behavior. Thus by ensuring
that employees are satisfied, management stands to gain a more efficient and smooth running
organization. Given the benefits of high job satisfaction, companies are constantly coming up with
new ways to increase and improve job satisfaction on the job. In an effort to increase job satisfaction

For example, a company may have set its core hours between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Employees may then
have the opportunity to choose various work schedules, such as coming in and leaving early (6am 2pm
or 7am 3pm) or by coming in and leaving late (9am 5pm or 10am 6pm). The advantages of a flexible
work schedule are countless for both the employer and the employee. Flexible work schedules provide
more flexibility for employees in both their personal and professional lives. This type of scheduling
allows employees to feel liberated with the freedom and control over their work life, thus reducing
levels of distress and strain ( Flextime, ). Other major advantages of a flexible work schedule include
increasing employee morale, minimizing tardiness, decreasing absenteeism and reducing company
turnover ( Flextime, ). Of course this type of scheduling has its disadvantages. Flexible work
schedules sometimes complicates and increase administrative work in that keeping track of employees
will prove to be more difficult because people are working different schedules. Other disadvantages
include lack of supervision during some hours of work, unavailability of key people during certain
periods and the possibility of understaffing during critical periods ( Flextime, ). Telecommuting

The Etruscan Temples And The Parthenon
During the fifth century and Eighth century BCE, The Etruscan Temples and The Parthenon were built
and valued by their cultures for many spiritual and cultural reasons. Similar to the Parthenon, The
Etruscan Temples are built with influences from Greece. However, Both have different appearances
based off of there medium, purpose, and architecture. The Etruscan Temple and the Parthenon both
have strong stances within there cultures and provide peace and empowerment for the population of
the time. Both structures are two similar ancient buildings, though there differences in culture and
architecture set them apart. The Etruscan culture was located in central Italy to the north of Rome. The
Etruscan Temples were built by the Etruscans during the Archaic period (600 480 BCE). By the time
archaeologists discovered the Etruscan Temples, they were very worn down and most were no longer
standing, though, they were measured to about 5x6 meters long with a height of 2 meters with the altar
of ten steps in the front of the temple. The Etruscans made small temples, like little houses with
pointed roofs, entirely of wood, but then outside, they had freizes and cornices and crests of terra cotta
so the upper part of the temple would seem as almost made of earthenware... (Lawrence 52) They
were able to use the mud as a kind of concrete to keep the wood and brick in place. The Temples
typically had three cellas where as the Parthenon only had one. As for the Parthenon, it was located on

The Worldwide Problem of Deforestation
Deforestation is an increasingly prevalent problem worldwide. About half of the forests that once
covered the Earth are now gone, much of which has happened in just the past few decades. Forests
have been cleared mostly for fuel, building materials, and land for farming. Deforestation has been
expanding and accelerating into the little amount of forests that remain across the world. Not only do
forests provide useful products, but they also influence the Earth s climate and are home to a
remarkable amount of biological diversity. Deforestation has taken a lot of these elements away, and
has also led to an increase in carbon dioxide. Without trees to use the increasing amounts of carbon
dioxide put out by humans, the carbon dioxide simply remains in the atmosphere.
Until recently, most of the deforestation happened in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. In the last
few decades though, the majority of deforestation has occurred in the tropics. It is estimated that Latin
America and Asia have already lost 40% of their original forest (University of Michigan). In most of
these countries, deforestation is also accelerating. There are many causes for deforestation, including
population pressure, social and political forces, and profits. The increasing need for palm oil in today s
world accounts for much of the deforestation occurring in many tropical countries such as Indonesia.
Palm oil is extremely versatile and is used in cooking, cosmetics, and biofuels.

Voltaire Exposes the Fallacy of Optimism in Candide Essay
Voltaire was the French author of the novella Candide, also known as Optimism (Durant and Durant
724). Famous as a playwright and essayist, Voltaire s Candide is the book where he tries to point out
the fallacy of Gottfried William von Leibniz s theory of Optimism. He uses satire, and techniques of
exaggeration to contrast highlight the evil and brutality of war and the world in general when men are
meekly accepting of their fate. Leibniz, a German philosopher and mathematician of Voltaire s time,
developed the idea that the world they were living in at that time was the best of all possible worlds.
This systematic optimism shown by Leibniz is the philosophical system that believed everything
already was for the best, no matter how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Candide is the son of the Baron of Thunder ten tronckh s sister. Candide grows up in the Castle of
Westphalia and is taught by Dr. Pangloss, a man that Candide often looked to for insight and
understanding. One of Panglos many great beleifs is that all is for the best and that good can be found
in everything. Candide fell in love with a girl by the name of Lady Cunegonde who is described as
having extravagant beauty.
Candide is abruptly exiled from the castle when found kissing the Baron s daughter, Cunegonde.
Devastated by the separation from Cunegonde, his true love,
Candide sets out to different places in the hope of finding her and achieving total happiness. On his
journey, he faces a number of misfortunes, among them being tortured during army training, yet he
continues to believe that there is a cause and effect for everything. Candide is reunited with
Cunegonde, and regains a life of prosperity, but soon all is taken away, including his beloved
Cunegonde. He travels on, and years later he finds her again, but she is now fat and ugly. His wealth is
all gone and so is his love for the Baron s daughter. Throughout Candide, we see how accepting
situations and not trying to change or overcome obstacles can be damaging. Life is full of struggles,
but it would be nonproductive if people passively accepted whatever fate had in store for them,
shrugging off their personal responsibility. Voltaire believes

Voter Turnout Analysis
The article that I chose to analyze discusses the area of voter turnout. Voter turnout is an area that is
near and dear to me because the opportunity to voice our opinions through voting is a civil
responsibility and ultimately our first opportunity to be involved in the political system. Voter turnout
is not a topic that is new, but it has manifested itself more and more over the years, and it is now a
huge topic of discussion in society. With different states instituting voting laws, voter turnout seems to
be on the decline. Why is this so? How do voting laws cause a decline in voter turnout at the polls?
The article that I chose explains the relationship between different voting laws and how they can affect
voter turnout at the polls.

The author has used data from different researchers to support his ideas as to the contributing factors
related to voter turnout. The author also uses a comparative perspective to help explain and show how
factors related to an election effect voter turnout. Here in North Carolina, we had voter ID laws for a
short time frame, and I saw the effects first hand on voter turnout. Personally, I do not have a driver s
license. Even though I have a learner s permit, I can see where someone who is in my position who
does not have any form of identification decides to skip the polls altogether because he/she does not
want to go through the hassle of obtaining a permit or identification card in order to vote. To me,
voting is extremely important, and as a government major, I have began to witness firsthand, how

The Key Ideas Associated With Early Years Education
Critically examine the key ideas associated with early years education in Reggio Emilia. What might
be learned from such practices?
Reggio Emilia, a small town situated in Northern Italy which over the past fifty years has become a
renowned focal point for those in early years education circles. Shortly after the conclusion of World
War 2 the infamous Reggio Emilia approach was coined by a young innovative teacher Loris
Malaguzzi. Malaguzzi founded this unique system after joining forces with the parents of the region
after recognising the need for childcare for young children and parents to return to the workforce to
allow the city to rebuild its infrastructure after sustaining extensive damage during the world war. The
approach itself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The belief that children are competent learners provides an environment which allows children to
realise and expand their potential, the Reggio Emilia approach outlines how every child possess ideas
which should be acknowledged, questioned and challenged to stimulate that child s knowledge.
Malaguzzi was famously quoted saying how a child has got a hundred languages and born with a lot
of possibilities (Dahlberg, Moss Pence, 2013). The Reggio approach demonstrates how these different
languages can be portrayed in various ways by children such as drawing, dancing, painting, playing
and through music to name a few. Consequently all these methods of learning are valued highly and
nurtured in the classroom and used as a way of learning rather than a way of play. The approach from
Reggio Emilia places an impetus on hands on practical learning for children as they use all their
senses to learn and develop. Early years learning establishments in England could undoubtedly learn
from the Reggio Emilia model which places children in a position empowering them to control their
learning as they investigate what they want. English practices could take on board Malaguzzi s
approach of the hundred different languages fuller than they already do and the belief that every area
of learning should be held in equal value in the classroom is extremely

The Bourgeoisie In The 17th Century
Did the Bourgeoisie bring substantial changes to 17th century Europe?
As the world has become increasingly competitive especially with globalization and economic
expansion the economic group that is behind this expansion were the bourgeoisie. During the 17th
century the bourgeoisie were known to be the upper rich class through the control of manufacturing
product or finance. The Bourgeoisie were the smaller population that held more wealth and although
they lacked in finding solutions to have a balanced society, they were able bring substantial changes
such as more wealth to their own cities through manufacturing products and allowed cultural diffusion
through trade. Society back in the 17th century held a small population of upper ... Show more content

Since they were the in charge of manufacturing products and finance, they were able to increase to
population of cities. The increase of these cities is due to specialized laborers and skilled craftsmen
which helped produce variety of goods in factories and workshops of varies towns and cities. The
bourgeoisie were devoted and spent long hours to their businesses and poured much of their profit
back into them or went for new ventures. Another change substantial change the bourgeoisie were able
to make was cultural diffusion through trade. As goods such as Caribbean and Brazil sugar and rum,
Mexican chocolate, Virginia tobacco, North American furs, East India cotton textiles and spices and
Chinese tea (page 452) were in demand. Cultures begin to clash with one another with different types
of clothes, art, food to be accepted with in different regions. One of the items that was beneficial to
many of these regions when it came to trade was maps. The Dutch were successful and excelled at
mapmaking which helped different places to have contact with foreign land and trade. As the
expansion of maritime trade increase due to the trade, newer designs for merchant s ships emerged
which allowed a larger capacity of cargo to be held within a ship. The government as well undertook
many large projects to improve better systems of water transport to allow transport of goods to sail

Censorship in the United States Essay
Censorship on Television
Censorship on television in the United States has been an issue ever since the television was invented.
The public holds a variety of stances on the topic, and no matter what law is ever passed regarding
censorship, it will never suit the needs of everyone. Some believe that censorship violates individual
rights in the law, and others believe that censorship should be available through members in the
family, not the government. On the other hand, some people strive to maintain government regulation
of censorship. Television censorship is significant because it holds the future of our country. If
channels continue to be censored, our rights will be violated. If not, then the future generations may

Children are also drawn to more mature programs in order to make them feel older and more mature
by watching them, which is why the swearing and nudity need to be cut out. I support this view
mainly because of an experience I had when I was about five years old. I snuck into the TV room
without my parents knowing, and when I was flipping through the channels, I stopped on a channel
that was showing the movie Die Hard. Just from watching a short segment of that movie, I quickly
learned the f word and said it in class the next day. This initial view on censorship is significant
because it can prevent children, who are the most influenced by TV, from practicing what they see.
They will not learn these words or actions at an early age, like I did, and therefore will not get into
trouble in school or teach them to other children. The downside to this stance is that it violates the
right of freedom of speech.
In order to gain a better knowledge of this subject, I searched the internet to read about others sides of
the issue. I typed the keywords government censorship and stances and found a number of articles.
The first article that caught my eye was written about the rights to freedom of speech. I opened the
article, took a few minutes to read it, and realized that censorship may not be the right answer. By
censoring television, the First Amendment of the United States

Examples Of Nursing Ethical Dilemma
Introduction
Nurses face ethical dilemmas on a daily basis. As nurses, we must be knowledgeable about the tools
we have to help guide our decisions when solving an ethical dilemma. The tools we have are our
ethical principles, ethical framework, and the ANA Code of Ethics for nurses. This paper will describe
a scenario where nurses were faced with an ethical dilemma regarding a baby. The ethical frameworks
and ANA Code of Ethics will be discussed in helping guide a solution to this scenario. Finally, an
analysis will be done about this scenario and a decision will be made. As nurses we must use these
tools because they will allow us to make better decisions more comfortably.
Observation
The first scenario took place in a children s hospital. The scenario was about a baby, named TJ, who
had many birth defects; the baby was blind, deaf, mute, and not be able to walk in the future. The baby
was given up by his mother and was left in the hands on the hospital (doctors, nurses, and other health
care staff) to care for. The dilemma occurred when nurses began to question on how to care for this
baby. Being that the baby had a very poor prognosis, nurses were conflicted if they should do
everything to care for this baby, such as do push ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Of those stimulant medications, the most common are Ritalin, Dexedrine, Adderall, Adderall XR,
Concerta, Vyvanse, and Focalin XR (Jaksa, 1998). For those who do not like stimulant medications or
the idea of seeing a psychiatrist on a regular basis, there are alternate forms of treatment for dealing
with the effects of ADHD. Yoga, Vitamins, Herbal Supplements, and even special diets have been
proven to be successfully in helping an individual deal with the effects of ADHD (Mayo Clinic Staff,
2013). One could gain a lot from using these alternate forms of treatment if they want to take natural
approach to treatment. They would not have to worry about the potential negative side effects of
stimulant medications. They can also become addictive. However, this can also be risky. These
alternate forms of treatment cannot replace the expertise and knowledge of a licensed psychiatrist.
Working with someone who is certified to diagnose and treat this condition can provide access to
some of the best treatment possible. ADHD is associated with poor grades, poor reading and
mathematics standardized test scores, and an increased likelihood of repeating a school year (Daley
Birchwood, 2009, pg. 457). The same academic challenges an individual faces as a child could carry
over into adulthood and create similar challenges as an adult learner. Individuals with ADHD face
academic disadvantages. This is not saying that an individual with ADHD cannot be the top student in

Analysis of The Great Illusion, by Norman Angell Essay
Advances in technology and the expansion of trade have, without a doubt, improved the standard of
living dramatically for peoples around the world. Globalization brings respect for law and human
rights and the democratization of politics, education, and finance to developing societies, but is
usually slow in doing so. It is no easy transition or permanent solution to conflict, as some overly
zealous proponents would argue. In The Great Illusion, Norman Angell sees globalization as a force
which results from and feeds back into the progressive change of human behavior from using physical
force toward using rational, peaceful methods in order to achieve economic security and prosperity.
He believes that nations will no longer wage war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His rosy view of globalization at the beginning of the twentieth century is also naïve in that it
downplays the role and the potential strength of nationalism, especially during times of crisis, and
refers to military spending and arms buildup as economically futile rather than as dangerous but
necessary, as they in fact were.
While colonialism did not always pay, in many cases it did allow a military power to promote
development of and trade with a colony in ways that would benefit the mother country. Angell
correctly emphasizes the importance of trade to economic prosperity, but incorrectly asserts that
colonizing nations cannot influence trade patterns or reap a profit from the trade that a colony carries
on. Furthermore, Angell focuses his criticism of military spending on demonstrating the pointlessness
of using military force to physically invade and steal gold reserves or take over factories, or to kill off
foreign competitors who are vital as producers and consumers in the global economy. No nation
intended to use their military force for this purpose. In reality, European nations used military force to
protect economic holdings, such as safe trade routes and favorable tariffs and taxes. While he is
correct to some degree in saying that military power will not force consumers to buy products of
inferior quality, political power does secure the right to create

Why And How Should We Regulate Coastal Fisheries
Why and how should we regulate coastal fisheries
Coastal fisheries of the UK offer a vast amount of importance to us for things like food and
medications, but after decades of over fishing and destructive fishing methods our fish stocks have
been left severly depleted. Across the UK there has been a lot of initiatives towards managing our
coastal fisheries to meet both environmental and economic goals. The need for regulating coastal
fisheries is not a new idea, it has been used for several hundred years. Currently there is 207 protected
marine protected areas implemented by the British government, one of the main ways we can regulate
coastal fisheries is by creating more marine conservation zones, these zones create a safe place for ...

Simplicity By William Zinsser
William Zinsser is an American writer who wrote an informational guide to writing. He made a
decision to revise a specific chapter called Simplicity. In the year 1980, the first version of Simplicity
was created, then came 1998 followed up by 2006. In the first version, 1980, Zinsser created a long
and wordy paper. He used specific examples but included details that were unnecessary. This is ironic
because the paper is about how writers can write unnecessary words and phrases creating complicated
sentences. He was not inclusive of gender, naming men as writers and only using wives as examples
of distraction. This draft had a complete count of 20 paragraphs. The 1998 version had few changes

because it was an extra unneeded detail. The sentence made complete sense just as what father or
mother can put together a child s toy from the instructions on the box? . In paragraph 4 he changed
what was originally the president of a major university in versions from 1980 and 98 to the president
of my university in the 2006 version, making a personal connection with the reader. (Paragraph 8
2006) He completely redid the paragraph. In the 1980 and 1994 version, the 8th paragraph was
completely unneeded and included a story that seemed unrelated to the topic of writing. It started as I
love to be alone . The 2006 version of this paragraph wasn t completely off topic from the original. I
still believe this paragraph isn t needed, even with the shortening. With the 2006 version he has taken

The Great Gatsby Narrator Analysis
A narrator is a character who recounts the events of a novel. These characters narrate the novel in their
point of view and how they perceive the events that occur. Their narration may be unreliable due to
bias and dishonesty. F. Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway, a first person narrator,
tells the story through his point of view and interprets the events and characters in the novel. Nick is
an unreliable narrator because he is biased on his interpretations of the characters and the events that
occur, like Gatsby s death. For example, he speaks negatively of Tom throughout the novel, and
speaks highly of Gatsby due to their relationship. Nick s interpretation of Gatsby s death is seen as
unreliable because Nick s morals change, and he focuses the event on himself.
Nick s interpretations of the characters in the novel are biased due to the relationships he has with
them. Nick describes himself as one of the few honest people that [he has] ever known (Fitzgerald 59).
Nick desperately tries to prove that he is reliable and trustworthy, showing that he is insecure. Early in
the book, Nick shares the piece of advice that his father gave to him when he was younger. He says,
Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone . . . just remember that all the people in this world haven t
had the advantages that you ve had . . . I m inclined to reserve all judgments (1). Nick s desire to be an
authentic narrator, compels people to trust him and his side of the story.

Why GPR Is Important
Bones can tell us a lot, these pieces of hard, whitish tissue makes up the skeleton in humans and other
vertebrates. Without these strong pieces of tissue, we would be able to have the body structure or
move in many different ways, or let alone have the protection we need for our internal organs. Bones
are important when it comes to the structure of human beings and vertebrates. What happens to these
bones when it is time for humans to die? They become buried deep within the earth. The earth was
literally filled with bones, evidently hastily place there or left where the dead fell. (Archeological
Expedition to Arizona in 1895 by Jesse Walter Fewkes). If there could be bones under the ground, we

When using GPR it is unable to identify any underground utilities that the user many come across.
Such as determining if the piping that is found is gas, or water, this can become dangerous because
you would have to limit the area of where you dig and to make sure you are not damaging a line that
has been detected. Even though these measurements can be increased your typical GPR can penetrate
the depth of concrete surfaces form 18 24. Other surfaces such as grass can range from a penetration
of 6 10. This can pose a challenge because, the evidence or what is being extracted can be buried
deeper than the limit of the GPR which can cause an Undiscovery of evidence or also a danger to
extractors who are unaware of what they can be digging into below. Another disadvantage that GPR
has is, this is an expensive tool you would not be able to go out and find this at your local Wal Mart let
alone at a cheap price for a good one, you are going to spend some money to have a good and accurate
GPR tester. GPR also requires experience before operating, it was stated it should take up to 3 days
depending on the pace that you learn, to be able to operate a GPR system. Unless you are familiar with
the tool, you are going to need proper training on how to operate this system. This can serve a problem
to an anthropology group and or law enforcement because if this tool is needed to extract evidence
someone who as the proper training and knowledge of this tool has to be present in order for the
discovery to be properly extracted. Another disadvantage that I was able to discovery is that most GPR
tools require the ground to be a leveled out surface. Without the surface being properly leveled out this
can cause a un detection of evidence or whatever is trying to be detected below, this can also give off a

Prosopagnosia In Charles Thomas Chuck Close s Life
Charles Thomas Chuck Close was born an only child in 1940 Monroe, Washington to parents that both
held a sight for artistic endeavors. He is known to everyone outside of his family as Chuck, a name he
has always hated. It was in high school where he made attempts at individuation that he started
referring to himself as Chuck. Only by an accidental dubbing taken place during an interview in 1968
that this stuck as his professional art name. His father passed away when Chuck was eleven forcing
him and his mother to move homes for the fifth time by the age of twelve. Growing up, Close showed
difficulty in his academics and social life which led to being tested and diagnosed with dyslexia. Out
of his learning disability it became apparent that he suffered from another disability known as
prosopagnosia. Prosopagnosia is a condition in which he cannot recognize faces. He stated that people

Analysis Of The Noachian Flood Deluge
I am arguing that the Noachian Flood Deluge as depicted in the biblical book of Genesis is a fable,
with no basis in reality. My opponent is required to be a creationist who believes in a worldwide flood.
He can not however, just ignore problems and say that God did it. He can t used faith as a justification
for belief, and must prove it with evidence. Of course, positive claims require positive evidence, and
that is what I expect.
Meteorology and Thermodynamics
Leonard G. Soroka and Charles L. Nelson in their Physical Constraints on the Noachian Deluge
examined four separate methods for flood waters, being rain, hypothermic springs, and two types of
cometary impact. None of them work, due to excessive energy and heat.
Rainfall Model
The amount of water presently in the oceans is about 1.37 billion cubic kilometers, and to cover all the
high mountains of the earth would require 4.4 billion additional cubic kilometers or approximately 3
times the amount of water present in the oceans. Not only would this make the air unbreathable due to
it being 99.9% water vapor, atmospheric pressure being 840 times what it is now. Then take the latent
heat of vaporization, when a kilogram of water vapor condenses and 2.26 million joules of energy are
released. This is what powers thunderstorms and hurricanes. Condensing 4.4 billion cubic kilometers
would create 10^26 joules of energy, making the planet 3500 degrees C, temporarily making the
planet the second hottest object in the solar

Since telecom networks must be always on, it is critical to guarantee network service availability with
the minimum amount of resources. In this paper, we presented XXX, our approach to provisioning
availability in NFV. XXX provides a suite for service providers to concisely describe a data center
topology and estimate the downtime distribution of a mapped SFC request. To reduce the running time
of XXX, we further proposed an optimization framework which estimates the minimum amount of
backup resources required to meet heterogeneous availability requirements and showed an heuristic
solution with a theoretical bound. Through evaluation with data from production data centers, we
demonstrated the effectiveness and efficiency of our solutions. For the future work, we are expanding
our optimization framework to enable expedited estimations of the backup resource needed under
other models of VNF. On the other hand, the downtime estimation accuracy is heavily dependent on
the accuracy of the failure and repair distribution of each layer, including both hardware and software.
Therefore it is important to analyze system log data, extract and model them using appropriate general

1860 Economic Growth
The United States government encouraged economic growth greatly between the years 1860 1900.
The United States government during the Civil War era was run by the Republicans. The Republicans
held the majority in Congress in 1860 because the southern states had seceded from the Union. This
majority gave the republicans the power to implement the policies in their platform which was based
on the American System. The Republican platform of 1860 was centered on encouraging economic
growth and developing a national economy. A few specific policies that the Republicans passed were
the Pacific Railway Act, the Morill Tariff, and the Morill Land Grant Act. Each of these three policies
were aimed at encouraging economic growth in our nation. The republicans passed many laws with
the sole purpose of encouraging economic growth and developing a strong economy. The US
government could be considered somewhat laissez faire in their neglect to place much needed
regulations on big business and corporations. Despite this fact, the United States government was
definitely not laissez faire during this time period due to the fact that they took a very active role in
our nation s economy. Without the policies passed by the national government during this time period,

Kevyn Howard, and Ed O Ross. Full Metal Jacket is a film that follows different recruits from basic
school at Marine Cops Recruit Depot Parris Island to the battle fields of Vietnam. The film starts off in
the barber shop on Parris Island as the new recruits get the heads shaved. The film then changes
scenes and continues with all the recruits standing in their barracks being addressed by the Drill
Instructor Gunny Hartman. Gunny Hartman tells the young recruits that if they are lucky enough to
finish his 13 week training, they will leave his island becoming a weapon, ministers of death praying
for war. Gunny Hartman continues to address his new recruits in more of a bullying concept telling
them that until that day they are pukes, lowest forms of life on earth, and that they are not even human
beings. After Gunny Hartman finished addressing the recruits he then turned his attention to singling
out several of the recruit s one being Private Lawrence. Gunny Hartman tell Private Lawrence that he

Essay On Emphysema
Emphysema
Around 2 million Americans suffer from emphysema. Emphysema is known as a disease of the lung
that cause shortness of breath due to over inflation of the alveoli or air sacs in the lungs. It is a
progressive and irreversible condition in which the alveoli are damaged by inhaled irritants. In this
paper I will be discussing with you the causes, the process in which this disease develops, signs and
symptoms, the diagnosis, and any treatment of emphysema.
Causes
Emphysema is caused by a plethora of problems that I will soon discuss, but the number one cause of
emphysema is due to smoking. It is known that 85% of patients who get emphysema smoke, but not
all smokers will develop emphysema depending on their genetics. Smoking destroys the lung tissue
obstructing the airflow and can also cause inflammation and irritate the airways causing an
obstruction. Smoke damages the cilia in the bronchial tubes which are basically tiny hairs that usually

Some patients dealing with emphysema may not even know they have the disease. The common
symptom of emphysema is shortness of breath. Its noticed during the earlier stages of the disease
when you re exercising or doing strenuous activities, also a chronic cough would be present. In the
later stages patients start to feel breathless while at rest, catching infections in the lungs often,
wheezing, fatigue, cyanosis of the extremities and copious mucus. The most noticeable sign of
emphysema is when a patient has pursed lipped breathing. That s when the patient has a hard time
exhaling completely to empty the trapped air in their lungs, so when they purse their lips creating a
small opening, it increases the pressure in the restricted airways, allowing them to open to empty the
trapped air. Patients tend to develop barrel chest as a result from air trapping due to obstructed

Judaism And Vegetarianism In Judaism
Hope Budman Conlin Johnson HTM 421 9/19/17 Essay #1 In Judaism there are many important
aspects of food for religious reasons. The main aspect, eating Kosher foods only. As well as, the many
holidays celebrated there are certain foods we eat and certain foods we cannot eat. Some Jews have
been eating Kosher for thousand of years because they follow kashrut (the Torah s dietary laws)
(Freeman). I am Jewish, but do not keep Kosher because I am reform; however, at the Temple I belong
to, it is kept Kosher. Keeping Kosher is a choice and followed by many Orthodox Jews. What are
Kosher foods? According to the book of Genesis, vegetarianism was commanded by God as the ideal
diet. However, in the course of the biblical narratives, this changed to include a variety of different
animals (Staff). Animals allowed to be eaten are, any creature that both chews its cud and has split
hooves...any fish that has both fins and scales... (Staff). Along with the specific foods, you are not
allowed to mix dairy with meat. That is why at my Temple, we have separate kitchens to keep
everything Kosher. Going shopping in your grocery store you can noticeably see some Kosher
products, like Kosher pickles and Kosher hot dogs. Like every religion there are specific foods you
eat; however, there are times we are restricted from eating some foods. Starting with the first major
holiday of the year according to the Jewish calendar is Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. On this

story is told through a group of journals. The topic I have chosen to look at is Dracula ability of
transformation, and the key role it played in ability to pull off his charade. Throughout this story
Dracula uses transformation into many different animal forms and mist to help get close to and subdue
his victims. Starting early in this story uses Dracula s uses his ability to take different forms to avoid

darkness... No trace of the dog was ever found of the great dog... Dracula s transformed appearance

The Problem Of Organ Trafficking
Organ trafficking is becoming progressively more common around the world. The donor list becomes
longer every day with people in need of a transplant. There are over 120,000 people in the United
States alone on the kidney transplant waiting list (National Kidney Foundation, 2016). People on the
waiting list are having to wait for a live donor (who wants no monetary gain) to donate a kidney, or
they are waiting for someone to die. Nonetheless, many people are unwilling to donate an organ while
living, and doing so for money is illegal. Under 1984 federal law, it is illegal for anyone to knowingly
buy or sell organs for transplant (Porter Johnson, 2009, para. 10). The statute in place forbidding organ

The result of someone seeking organs illegally has them going outside of the United States to obtain
the organs. As stated in one article, This gap between demand and supply has prompted many people
in the west with organ failure to seek transplants overseas, often in developing countries (Adair
Wigmore, 2011, para. 3). This can be very dangerous as they are trusting other nations to perform their
surgeries. The recipient also risks receiving an unhealthy organ. One effect this has on people is them
having to pay more for travel expenses and related medical costs, as insurance would not cover the
cost in foreign countries. Furthermore, the poor are now vulnerable to brokers seeking to make a
profit.
The black market sales thenceforth effect the poor as they are exploited for their organs due to their
financial situations. Conversely, even if organ sales were legal, it would be taking advantage of the
poor. It is safe to say that the promise of monetary gain would be an attractive option for the poor to
climb out of financial hardships. The poor people s financial difficulties cause them to make
judgements they may not have necessarily made before. It is a sad indictment of the human condition
that wherever there is a market, people will strive to find a profit margin even when this results in
human exploitation (Adair Wigmore, 2011, para. 3). Since many poor people are

The Importance Of Achievement
Achievement is something that some people silently compete for, to be better than everyone else. But,
other people strive for achievement like myself, they do not worry about others and try to be best they
can be, for themselves. There are multiple types of achievement, grades and school only impact
certain people, some people have different ideas of achievement and think they do not need schooling
to succeed and learn from just everyday life. There are over achievers, and then there are people who
just do what they need to, to pass a class. I feel that grades do not impact everyone s achievements
because some people do not worry about school and focus more on life achievements. My entire life I
have not worried about grades up until I saw my brother struggling with long division around age 17,
trying to get into the Army. My brother usually had all D and F s for grades; our childhood was not the
best. I do not blame him for his lack of motivation and urge to do better because no one tried to
motivate him, and simply gave up. In 7th grade, I did not worry about grades because everything just
came to me easily, this stayed the same until 10th grade when we started actual work. I struggled with
math and English because when I had the chance to succeed greater things, I just did what I needed to
pass. Now, I have entirely turned around and am on the A or B honor roll every semester since 9th
grade. I have strived for better grades because that is how I feel achievement. I

The Decision For El Salvador s Supreme Court
Throughout the semester, students have learned of the importance of the interplay amongst different
levels of actors in international relations politics. These various institutions, governments, groups, and
individuals are especially important when considering the issue of human rights. My chosen article, co
written by Elisabeth Malkin and Gene Palumbo, describes the landmark decision for El Salvador s
Supreme Court to overturn an amnesty law that protected perpetrators of human rights violations. The
ruling of the Supreme Court is based on the grounds that the amnesty is unconstitutional due to
violating international human rights laws (Malkin, Palumba). This event is particularly important
because previous governments ignored these violations that stemmed from civil unrest. The amnesty
law was established in 1992 after a civil war of more than 12 years and effectively covers all crimes
committed by both sides during the war (Dolliver, Kanavel, Robeck). However, due to its contestable
legality both domestically and internationally, El Salvador s Supreme Court decided to rule on the
amnesty s law constitutionality for the final time. This article is relevant in the context of increasing
global concern over human rights. More recent debates in international relations discuss the
importance of the individual over that of states and sovereignty, especially in a society in which
national and global boundaries are being transcended and constantly undermined. Multiple levels

Should the Federal Government continue funding Planned Parenthood? Planned Parenthood is an
organization that has been around since at least 1921. Recently, it has been in the limelight due to the

take away all federal funding to shut down the clinics where as the democrats believe that the
republicans are misguided in their claims. The Planned Parenthood Federation of America is a non

health services among the United States as well as internationally, since 1952. In recent news
developments, there have been rumors that Planned Parenthood practices inhumane procedures when

supporters for Planned Parenthood claim that these claims are unfounded and believe that Planned
Parenthood is a wonderful association that helps women and men all around the world. This issue has

Critical Analysis Of My Antonia By Willa Cather
From the birth of the United States, freedom has been the goal. Freedom inspired a large amount of
people to come to American to start a new life. With an influx of people and the desire for personal
space, America expanded under the jurisdiction of Manifest Destiny. American s of that time began to
move west of the Mississippi river into untamed, and isolated areas. There are many accounts of these
migrations and stories of the untamed wilderness, but one of the classics is My Antonia by Willa

It has been no wonder why suicide was at it s highest peak during the peak of pioneer expansion.
Pioneers were trapped in a place they hardly knew, performing tasks they never had before, and trying
to survive without social interaction. Some of the people who had it worst at that time were the
immigrants because they could not speak English or comprehend some of the differences between
America and their homeland. Living on the prairie was a constant struggle with not only the physical
aspects, but also the mind. People like Mr. Shimerda in My Antonia were prime examples of the
suicide caused by the unhappiness with the choices they had made to move to the new land. In book
one of My Antonia Mr. Shimerda was described as a jovial man who always played his fiddle for all to
hear and who loved to sing, dance, and converse. As the first few chapters wear on, Mr. Shimerda s
personality begun to fade. He was grouchy and blunt when he used to be happy. He was not happy
with himself, which drove him to suicide. This action was inspired by one of Willa Cather s friends in
Nebraska named Annie who emigrated to the U.S. from Poland. In a critical analysis of My Antonia
by Willa Cather, John J. Murphy takes a look into her inspirations. His article titled Raw Materials
was published in Boston, Massachusetts in 1989 by Twayne Publishing Co. About My Antonia, he
said, Annie obviously admired him, was often his companion, and describes him as a man in a million
who never swore or used dirty words like other men nor ever drank or play cards he was a clean man
in everyway. Then on 15 February 1881 he took his shotgun and said he was going rabbit hunting but

  • 2. Honor Home Program Analysis The next few programs require a conical amount of supervision than the aforementioned, and are generally more lenient and flexible with the length of stay. Firstly, Y Passages program is another program specifically for men. Applicants may have already been through one of the other programs offered by the Y , but it is not required. These applicants generally are self sufficient, but may need additional support to fully realize their goals and residents may stay for six to nine months. Whereas, the Honor House is a residential program specifically designed for veteran men who are chemically dependent. Qualifications for this program include the individual being deemed benefit eligible by the Lebanon Veterans Association. Generally, the Y will accommodate the length of time per the needs of the veteran. There is a D.U.I. II program for both men and women at the Y . This is the program that I became most familiar with for two reasons. One being that I had been through a similar program myself, nearly a decade ago, therefore I feel that I have a unique opportunity with expressing genuine empathy. The second is that during my internship, I spent a cornucopia of hours of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, she began complaining that there were scabies and bedbugs while she stayed at the Y. She also was upset that I was bothering her after a year and was going to file a complaint with Jami. After she caught her breath, I explained that it was a one year follow up, and said in as soothing a voice that I could muster, that I was only an intern, but I believed the Y had her best intentions in mind. Further, I elaborated that we only want to know if their former residents are doing well, and if not, how may they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are likely to have less absenteeism, fewer grievances or engage in negative behavior. Thus by ensuring that employees are satisfied, management stands to gain a more efficient and smooth running organization. For example, a company may have set its core hours between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Employees may then have the opportunity to choose various work schedules, such as coming in and leaving early (6am 2pm or 7am 3pm) or by coming in and leaving late (9am 5pm or 10am 6pm). The advantages of a flexible work schedule are countless for both the employer and the employee. Flexible work schedules provide more flexibility for employees in both their personal and professional lives. This type of scheduling allows employees to feel liberated with the freedom and control over their work life, thus reducing levels of distress and strain ( Flextime, ). The Etruscan Temples And The Parthenon During the fifth century and Eighth century BCE, The Etruscan Temples and The Parthenon were built and valued by their cultures for many spiritual and cultural reasons. Similar to the Parthenon, The Etruscan Temples are built with influences from Greece. However, Both have different appearances based off of there medium, purpose, and architecture. The Etruscan Temple and the Parthenon both have strong stances within there cultures and provide peace and empowerment for the population of the time. Both structures are two similar ancient buildings, though there differences in culture and architecture set them apart. The Etruscan culture was located in central Italy to the north of Rome. The Etruscan Temples were built by the Etruscans during the Archaic period (600 480 BCE). By the time archaeologists discovered the Etruscan Temples, they were very worn down and most were no longer standing, though, they were measured to about 5x6 meters long with a height of 2 meters with the altar of ten steps in the front of the temple. The Etruscans made small temples, like little houses with pointed roofs, entirely of wood, but then outside, they had freizes and cornices and crests of terra cotta so the upper part of the temple would seem as almost made of earthenware... • 5. The Worldwide Problem of Deforestation Deforestation is an increasingly prevalent problem worldwide. About half of the forests that once covered the Earth are now gone, much of which has happened in just the past few decades. Forests have been cleared mostly for fuel, building materials, and land for farming. Deforestation has been expanding and accelerating into the little amount of forests that remain across the world. Not only do forests provide useful products, but they also influence the Earth s climate and are home to a remarkable amount of biological diversity. Deforestation has taken a lot of these elements away, and has also led to an increase in carbon dioxide. Without trees to use the increasing amounts of carbon dioxide put out by humans, the carbon dioxide simply remains in the atmosphere. Until recently, most of the deforestation happened in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. In the last few decades though, the majority of deforestation has occurred in the tropics. It is estimated that Latin America and Asia have already lost 40% of their original forest (University of Michigan). In most of these countries, deforestation is also accelerating. There are many causes for deforestation, including population pressure, social and political forces, and profits. The increasing need for palm oil in today s world accounts for much of the deforestation occurring in many tropical countries such as Indonesia. Palm oil is extremely versatile and is used in cooking, cosmetics, and biofuels. Palm oil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Famous as a playwright and essayist, Voltaire s Candide is the book where he tries to point out the fallacy of Gottfried William von Leibniz s theory of Optimism. He uses satire, and techniques of exaggeration to contrast highlight the evil and brutality of war and the world in general when men are meekly accepting of their fate. Leibniz, a German philosopher and mathematician of Voltaire s time, developed the idea that the world they were living in at that time was the best of all possible worlds. This systematic optimism shown by Leibniz is the philosophical system that believed everything already was for the best, no matter how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Candide is the son of the Baron of Thunder ten tronckh s sister. Candide grows up in the Castle of Westphalia and is taught by Dr. Pangloss, a man that Candide often looked to for insight and understanding. One of Panglos many great beleifs is that all is for the best and that good can be found in everything. Candide fell in love with a girl by the name of Lady Cunegonde who is described as having extravagant beauty. Candide is abruptly exiled from the castle when found kissing the Baron s daughter, Cunegonde. Devastated by the separation from Cunegonde, his true love, Candide sets out to different places in the hope of finding her and achieving total happiness. On his journey, he faces a number of misfortunes, among them being tortured during army training, yet he continues to believe that there is a cause and effect for everything. Candide is reunited with Cunegonde, and regains a life of prosperity, but soon all is taken away, including his beloved Cunegonde. Shortly after the conclusion of World War 2 the infamous Reggio Emilia approach was coined by a young innovative teacher Loris Malaguzzi. Malaguzzi was famously quoted saying how a child has got a hundred languages and born with a lot of possibilities (Dahlberg, Moss Pence, 2013). The Reggio approach demonstrates how these different languages can be portrayed in various ways by children such as drawing, dancing, painting, playing and through music to name a few. Consequently all these methods of learning are valued highly and nurtured in the classroom and used as a way of learning rather than a way of play. The approach from Reggio Emilia places an impetus on hands on practical learning for children as they use all their senses to learn and develop. Early years learning establishments in England could undoubtedly learn from the Reggio Emilia model which places children in a position empowering them to control their learning as they investigate what they want. Just from watching a short segment of that movie, I quickly learned the f word and said it in class the next day. His rosy view of globalization at the beginning of the twentieth century is also naïve in that it downplays the role and the potential strength of nationalism, especially during times of crisis, and refers to military spending and arms buildup as economically futile rather than as dangerous but necessary, as they in fact were. While colonialism did not always pay, in many cases it did allow a military power to promote development of and trade with a colony in ways that would benefit the mother country. Angell correctly emphasizes the importance of trade to economic prosperity, but incorrectly asserts that colonizing nations cannot influence trade patterns or reap a profit from the trade that a colony carries on. Furthermore, Angell focuses his criticism of military spending on demonstrating the pointlessness of using military force to physically invade and steal gold reserves or take over factories, or to kill off foreign competitors who are vital as producers and consumers in the global economy. No nation intended to use their military force for this purpose. To reduce the running time of XXX, we further proposed an optimization framework which estimates the minimum amount of backup resources required to meet heterogeneous availability requirements and showed an heuristic solution with a theoretical bound. Through evaluation with data from production data centers, we demonstrated the effectiveness and efficiency of our solutions. For the future work, we are expanding our optimization framework to enable expedited estimations of the backup resource needed under other models of VNF. On the other hand, the downtime estimation accuracy is heavily dependent on the accuracy of the failure and repair distribution of each layer, including both hardware and software. Therefore it is important to analyze system log data, extract and model them using appropriate general ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. 1860 Economic Growth The United States government encouraged economic growth greatly between the years 1860 1900. The United States government during the Civil War era was run by the Republicans. The Republicans held the majority in Congress in 1860 because the southern states had seceded from the Union. This majority gave the republicans the power to implement the policies in their platform which was based on the American System. The Republican platform of 1860 was centered on encouraging economic growth and developing a national economy. A few specific policies that the Republicans passed were the Pacific Railway Act, the Morill Tariff, and the Morill Land Grant Act. Each of these three policies were aimed at encouraging economic growth in our nation. The republicans passed many laws with the sole purpose of encouraging economic growth and developing a strong economy. The US government could be considered somewhat laissez faire in their neglect to place much needed regulations on big business and corporations. Despite this fact, the United States government was definitely not laissez faire during this time period due to the fact that they took a very active role in our nation s economy. Without the policies passed by the national government during this time period, it is highly unlikely that our nation s economy would have grown to the extent that it did, and the United States would not be the ... I decided to write my paper based off Stanley Kubrick s film Full Metal Jacket starring Matthew Modine, Adam Baldwin, Vincent D Onofrio, Lee Ermey, Dorian Harewood, Arliss Howard, Kevyn Howard, and Ed O Ross. Full Metal Jacket is a film that follows different recruits from basic school at Marine Cops Recruit Depot Parris Island to the battle fields of Vietnam. The film starts off in the barber shop on Parris Island as the new recruits get the heads shaved. The film then changes scenes and continues with all the recruits standing in their barracks being addressed by the Drill Instructor Gunny Hartman. Gunny Hartman tells the young recruits that if they are lucky enough to finish his 13 week training, they will leave his island becoming a weapon, ministers of death praying for war. Gunny Hartman continues to address his new recruits in more of a bullying concept telling them that until that day they are pukes, lowest forms of life on earth, and that they are not even human beings. After Gunny Hartman finished addressing the recruits he then turned his attention to singling out several of the recruit s one being Private Lawrence. Gunny Hartman tell Private Lawrence that he did not like his name and that his new name was Private Pyle. Private Pyle is a young man who appears to be a nice outgoing type of person, but you can tell based off his demeanor he has some form ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the later stages patients start to feel breathless while at rest, catching infections in the lungs often, wheezing, fatigue, cyanosis of the extremities and copious mucus. The most noticeable sign of emphysema is when a patient has pursed lipped breathing. That s when the patient has a hard time exhaling completely to empty the trapped air in their lungs, so when they purse their lips creating a small opening, it increases the pressure in the restricted airways, allowing them to open to empty the trapped air. • 28. Judaism And Vegetarianism In Judaism Hope Budman Conlin Johnson HTM 421 9/19/17 Essay #1 In Judaism there are many important aspects of food for religious reasons. The main aspect, eating Kosher foods only. As well as, the many holidays celebrated there are certain foods we eat and certain foods we cannot eat. Some Jews have been eating Kosher for thousand of years because they follow kashrut (the Torah s dietary laws) (Freeman). I am Jewish, but do not keep Kosher because I am reform; however, at the Temple I belong to, it is kept Kosher. Keeping Kosher is a choice and followed by many Orthodox Jews. What are Kosher foods? According to the book of Genesis, vegetarianism was commanded by God as the ideal diet. However, in the course of the biblical narratives, this changed to include a variety of different animals (Staff). Animals allowed to be eaten are, any creature that both chews its cud and has split hooves...any fish that has both fins and scales... (Staff). Along with the specific foods, you are not allowed to mix dairy with meat. That is why at my Temple, we have separate kitchens to keep everything Kosher. Going shopping in your grocery store you can noticeably see some Kosher products, like Kosher pickles and Kosher hot dogs. Like every religion there are specific foods you eat; however, there are times we are restricted from eating some foods. Starting with the first major holiday of the year according to the Jewish calendar is Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. On this holiday ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are over 120,000 people in the United States alone on the kidney transplant waiting list (National Kidney Foundation, 2016). People on the waiting list are having to wait for a live donor (who wants no monetary gain) to donate a kidney, or they are waiting for someone to die. Nonetheless, many people are unwilling to donate an organ while living, and doing so for money is illegal. Under 1984 federal law, it is illegal for anyone to knowingly buy or sell organs for transplant (Porter Johnson, 2009, para. 10). The result of someone seeking organs illegally has them going outside of the United States to obtain the organs. As stated in one article, This gap between demand and supply has prompted many people in the west with organ failure to seek transplants overseas, often in developing countries (Adair Wigmore, 2011, para. 3). This can be very dangerous as they are trusting other nations to perform their surgeries. The recipient also risks receiving an unhealthy organ. One effect this has on people is them having to pay more for travel expenses and related medical costs, as insurance would not cover the cost in foreign countries. Furthermore, the poor are now vulnerable to brokers seeking to make a profit. The black market sales thenceforth effect the poor as they are exploited for their organs due to their financial situations. Conversely, even if organ sales were legal, it would be taking advantage of the poor. It is safe to say that the promise of monetary gain would be an attractive option for the poor to climb out of financial hardships. The poor people s financial difficulties cause them to make judgements they may not have necessarily made before. It is a sad indictment of the human condition that wherever there is a market, people will strive to find a profit margin even when this results in human exploitation (Adair Wigmore, 2011, para. 3). • 33. The Importance Of Achievement Achievement is something that some people silently compete for, to be better than everyone else. But, other people strive for achievement like myself, they do not worry about others and try to be best they can be, for themselves. There are multiple types of achievement, grades and school only impact certain people, some people have different ideas of achievement and think they do not need schooling to succeed and learn from just everyday life. There are over achievers, and then there are people who just do what they need to, to pass a class. I feel that grades do not impact everyone s achievements because some people do not worry about school and focus more on life achievements. My entire life I have not worried about grades up until I saw my brother struggling with long division around age 17, trying to get into the Army. My brother usually had all D and F s for grades; our childhood was not the best. I do not blame him for his lack of motivation and urge to do better because no one tried to motivate him, and simply gave up. In 7th grade, I did not worry about grades because everything just came to me easily, this stayed the same until 10th grade when we started actual work. I struggled with math and English because when I had the chance to succeed greater things, I just did what I needed to pass. Now, I have entirely turned around and am on the A or B honor roll every semester since 9th grade. I have strived for better grades because that is how I feel achievement. I ... • 35. The Decision For El Salvador s Supreme Court Throughout the semester, students have learned of the importance of the interplay amongst different levels of actors in international relations politics. These various institutions, governments, groups, and individuals are especially important when considering the issue of human rights. My chosen article, co written by Elisabeth Malkin and Gene Palumbo, describes the landmark decision for El Salvador s Supreme Court to overturn an amnesty law that protected perpetrators of human rights violations. The ruling of the Supreme Court is based on the grounds that the amnesty is unconstitutional due to violating international human rights laws (Malkin, Palumba). This event is particularly important because previous governments ignored these violations that stemmed from civil unrest. The amnesty law was established in 1992 after a civil war of more than 12 years and effectively covers all crimes committed by both sides during the war (Dolliver, Kanavel, Robeck). However, due to its contestable legality both domestically and internationally, El Salvador s Supreme Court decided to rule on the amnesty s law constitutionality for the final time. This article is relevant in the context of increasing global concern over human rights. More recent debates in international relations discuss the importance of the individual over that of states and sovereignty, especially in a society in which national and global boundaries are being transcended and constantly undermined. Freedom inspired a large amount of people to come to American to start a new life. With an influx of people and the desire for personal space, America expanded under the jurisdiction of Manifest Destiny. American s of that time began to move west of the Mississippi river into untamed, and isolated areas. There are many accounts of these migrations and stories of the untamed wilderness, but one of the classics is My Antonia by Willa Cather. It has been no wonder why suicide was at it s highest peak during the peak of pioneer expansion. Pioneers were trapped in a place they hardly knew, performing tasks they never had before, and trying to survive without social interaction. Some of the people who had it worst at that time were the immigrants because they could not speak English or comprehend some of the differences between America and their homeland. Living on the prairie was a constant struggle with not only the physical aspects, but also the mind. People like Mr. Shimerda in My Antonia were prime examples of the suicide caused by the unhappiness with the choices they had made to move to the new land. In book one of My Antonia Mr. Shimerda was described as a jovial man who always played his fiddle for all to hear and who loved to sing, dance, and converse. As the first few chapters wear on, Mr. Shimerda s personality begun to fade. He was grouchy and blunt when he used to be happy. He was not happy with himself, which drove him to suicide. This action was inspired by one of Willa Cather s friends in Nebraska named Annie who emigrated to the U.S. from Poland. In a critical analysis of My Antonia by Willa Cather, John J. Murphy takes a look into her inspirations. His article titled Raw Materials was published in Boston, Massachusetts in 1989 by Twayne Publishing Co. About My Antonia, he said, Annie obviously admired him, was often his companion, and describes him as a man in a million who never swore or used dirty words like other men nor ever drank or play cards he was a clean man in everyway. Then on 15 February 1881 he took his shotgun and said he was going rabbit hunting but failed to return by late afternoon.
