The Struggle In Sonny s Blue By James Baldwin
Sonny s Blue by James Baldwin is a story about two brothers who grew up in poverty. One brother
went on to become a teacher, while the other pursued his dreams to become a musician and finds
himself in prison due to drug use. The story begins with the narrator finding out about Sonny s arrest.
It s easy to see his shock and almost disbelief. It takes the narrator a while to write to Sonny, but
eventually he does, and they regain communication with one another after over a year of silence.
Sonny is released from prison and goes to stay with the narrator and his family. He is staying clean,
and he continues to pursue his dreams of making music. The narrator also finally sees that Sonny is
very talented and that music really was his calling. The two brothers are very different, though they
grew up in the same setting. They have different ways of escaping Harlem, they have different
aspirations and goals, and they have different personalities and views on life.
From the beginning of the story, it is clear that the brothers have different views of Harlem and how to
become successful. The oldest of the two, the narrator, who remains unnamed, became successful after
returning from war and became a teacher. He wed and had a family. Sonny, the younger brother, was
successful in a sense because he got out of Harlem, but at the same sense, he fell into drug use and
wound up in prison, trapped behind bars. The narrator sees the drug use and the poverty in Harlem,
but he chooses to

Leonardo Da Vinci And The Last Supper
Matthew Greiner
Artist Project
8/2/15
Leonardo Da Vinci is most famous for the Mona Lisa and his countless inventions. He was many
things, an inventor, an artist and a scientist. Here, we are going to mostly talk about his artist
side(Although, personally i would rather write about his inventor side) His two most commonly
known paintings were Mona Lisa and The Last Supper . Two wonderful pieces of art by an amazing
artist. he was born on April 15 1452 in Vinci, Italy, died May 2 1519. He heavily influenced the
renaissance era and is still influencing us today.
At an early age, Leonardo da Vinci moved to Florence, where he apprenticed with the painter and
sculptor Verrochio. Da Vinci s brilliance was obvious even at this early stage in his life. He often
experimented with different artistic forms and techniques. Being surrounded by Italian art, he often
used oils in his paintings . His work sparked a new style of art in Italy. In 1481, at the age of 30, da
Vinci moved to Milan to work for the Duke of Milan. Although relatively few of da Vinci s paintings
and sculptures survive, two of his extant works are among the world s most well known and admired
paintings. The first is da Vinci s The Last Supper, painted during his time in Milan, from about 1495 to
1498. A oil mural on plaster, The Last Supper was created for the city s Monastery of Santa Maria
delle Grazie. Also known as The Cenacle, this work measures about 15 by 29 feet and is the artist s

Smash It Up
In May 2013, the mural depicting the Chartist movement in Newport was torn down. As it meant a lot
to the local residents they protested, but to no avail. The company Mr Mrs Clark deal with destruction
and loss in their show Smash it Up. To fully understand the performance we must explore the history
of this particular art form and how destruction has been used with creative indent elsewhere. Inspired
by the non consensual destruction of the mural, the three actors investigate their own attitude to
destruction as a creative force. Smash it Up is a performance as much as it is a lecture, an exhibition
and a dance show combined with film. It seems that the show has been designed to be somewhat
chaotic as to convey the mixture of opinions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

best ways to garner attention. Although Smash it Up manages to draw attention, they fail to address
the deeper meaning in their actions. A performance needs more, especially in this day and age where
vandalisms are done to artworks somewhat regularly. A famous example of this being the destruction
of Picasso s Guernica when a young artist spray painted the words: Kill Lies All across the bottom
half of the canvas. A more interesting example is the one of Ai Weiwei s, Dropping a Han Dynasty
Urn. A series of photographs where the artist is shown destroying a priceless piece of art. The work
was included in an exhibition along with his other ceramic pieces when another young artist destroyed
one of them in an act of vandalism, essentially creating a work of art in of

Blood Glucose Level Changes Due Exercise And Serving Size
Introduction
Our whole project is surrounded around blood glucose level changes due exercise and serving size, so
that brings about the question of what is blood glucose? Blood glucose is the sugar that is moved
throughout the bloodstream to provide energy to all cells in the body. In simple terms, it is very
important biological occurrence that drives the body by giving it the raw energy to power all the body
s functions. To test for this occurrence, there are two main methods to test for the levels of blood
glucose in the bloodstream. One method is having the blood drawn intravenously, getting blood drawn
using a needle, and sending it to a lab to conduct the action. The other method that is much more
convenient and less costly is using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The kidneys are quite busy forming about 160 liters of filtrate daily (Powis, 1985, p. 182). This is very
important because it is through the liver and kidneys that the nutrients start traveling through the
bloodstream, especially glucose, sugar. Glucose is the favored energy fuel for most cells of the body
(Silverstein, 1994, p. 28). Glucose is essentially sugar, which is the primitive source of energy for
most of living organisms, and humans are no exception. Normally people have the biochemistry
within their bodies to regulate their own blood sugar levels. However, this is not the case for some
people, unfortunately, due to factors. The hormone insulin, which, helps sugar enter the body cells, is
basically inactive in some people, which causes their whole biological system to start to
deteriorate(Goodheart, 1990, p. 117). This is known as diabetes. Diabetes can come in two types, i.e
type 1 and 2, which are caused by genetics or poor dietary habits. This can cause conditions like
hyperglycemia, which is, a blood sugar level that is higher than normal (Goodheart, 1990, p.117). The
opposite of this is hypoglycemia, which is, a blood sugar that is lower than normal (Goodheart, 1990,
p.117). Research into blood glucose was then extensively done to help out with managing diabetes
since there was no cure. This led to the creation of synthetic insulin that diabetics inject themselves to
regulate their levels and

How Does The Greek Culture Influence Australian Culture
Melbourne is known to be one of the most diverse cities in the world. We are home to over 140
different cultures and races and have many groups and organisations that work with our multicultural
community to help support them and their families.
One of these amazing cultures is the Greek Culture, the Greeks are known for their tasty Souvlaki s

country of the Balkan Peninsula. The south and west of Greece is surrounded by the Mediterranean
Sea and the north and east share borders with Bulgaria, Turkey, FYROM and Albania. The Greek flag

The Greek people have many key values such as honour, hospitality, duty and dignity. These values
have been passed down through the generations and even today we can see these values in Australian
Greek families.
Essentially all Greeks belong to the Greek Orthodox religion they attend many religious events and
celebrations and church. Some are devout, firmly following the rituals and procedures of the church.
These are important matters because they have influenced, and shaped their view of life.
The Orthodox Church is incredibly important to Greek history, culture and tradition. When walking,
riding or driving past a church, most Greeks make the sign of the cross. In most Greek homes there is
a small corner or section of the home for icons, with an incense holder and lighted wick orkandili.
Most Greeks baptise their children in the Orthodox Church; marry in the church; celebrate Greek
Easter and Saints days; and hold funeral services in the church.

A Midsummer Night s Dream Comparison Essay
The True Power of Adaptations Some of the world s greatest storylines comes from book adaptations.
For example, West Side Story, an American Classic film, considered it is one of the greatest films in
history, it was an adaptation to Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Lord of the Rings, The Hunger
Games, Harry Potter: etc. They all came from books or other forms of written stories. Good
adaptations successfully accomplish the storyline from the written book and make it even better. I
myself have watched two adaptations to A Midsummer Night s Dream: A 1999 movie directed by
Michael Hoffman, and a play performed by Rice University. The movie was not perfect. There were
many flaws. In the very beginning, the acting was not good at all. Theseus s role in the beginning
scene was sub par, sounding as if he were reading from a teleprompter. Plot inconsistencies also ...

The theme of A Midsummer Night s Dream is that if true happiness, love, and joy is wanted in a
relationship, it will take some hard work. True love or friendship does not depend upon if a person is
is annoying or not. True love or friendship goes beyond flaws. Having a good healthy relationship in
which you selflessly and unconditionally love someone is a risk. It is like spending money on stocks.
Someday that stock might crash. Likewise your friend might get extremely sick, die, or even betray
you. Or your friend might be in danger, and you would have to step up and take the risk. Truly caring
for your friend comes at a price. In the story, both in the play and in the movie, Egeus and Theseus
were discussing on Hermia and how she needs to marry Demetrius. Since Hermia does not love
Demetrius, she wants to marry Lysander. When Egeus and Theseus offer Hermia to either die, become
a nun all her life, or marry Demetrius, Hermia is not afraid. Her love for Lysander is that great, that
she is willing even to die for

College Essay On Warriors
Seeking power, thriving to kill I obtained the class of a strong, brave warrior. They are exploding with
adventure. Warriors are fast on the battlefield and that means for slow opponents just walk away
before you stink of defeat. A warrior has the ability to smash around with the sword of death and
denominate anything. Seeking power and wealth nothing shall stand in the way of a warrior on a
mission. Equipped and ready for battle is why I chose a warrior because they can deal damage and
receive a lot of damage without dying.
Warriors are severe elite classes they are also exceedingly persistent and they do not give up as other
classes do. Humanity with a warrior places a sword in hand during melee combat. Warriors are
intensely trained with weaponry and that means there is a wide variety of weapons and tactics are

Priest do not have near as much training with weapons or other defense mechanisms. warriors and
priest are two extremely different classes and the warrior class is by far the better class of the two.

Fantine And Cosette
Though Jean valjean struggles and conflicts only got more strenuous, he still continued, if not to an
even greater extent, his selfless devotion to the ill fated members of society. The exemplary heroism,
compassion, and love of Jean Valjean s character was further deepened through the meeting of Cosette
and Fantine. The mother and daughter both express a cry for help, a call which although difficult to
answer, was dutifully plowed after by Jean Valjean.
Fantine is a reflection of the horrific outcome of French society. Exploited by the thenardiers, and
undoubtedly naive to the intentions of others, she is the weak prey oblivious of her predators. Jean
Valjean steps into her life, and by doing so, he cultivates a strong empathy for her situation, one which
is quite familiar to himself. Fantine causes Jean Valjean to look back at the character of his darkest
days, and thus, make a decision to firmly not revert back to his old ways. In fact, she is the
embodiment of a part of a debt to society he must pay, and so Jean Valjean is determined to help
Fantine in any way he can. Likewise, he pursues the recovery of her daughter Cosette in order to
achieve completion of her final wish. Fantine impacts Jean Valjean by acting like a mirror for his
personal flaws, and continued to spark the seemingly never ending selfless drive to make up for them.

fact that he is bonded by his task sent by Fantine but rather, the most intense empathy and compassion

The Mozart s Effect Theory Of The Mozart Effect
There are numerous theories as to what factors may affect one s ability to perform adequately. The
Mozart Effect theory was established by Rauscher, Shaw, and Ky (1993). The Mozart Effect refers to a
set of research results indicating that listening to Mozart s music may stimulate a short term
enhancement on the enactment of certain assignments. This theory supported that listening to music
composed by Mozart would increase their ability to perform accurately on a both mathematical
operation and spatial reasoning test. The researchers proposed that music lacking complexity or that is
repetitive may interfere with your ability to execute the task effectively, rather than enhance, abstract
reasoning (Rauscher, Shaw, Ky). Rauscher, Shaw, and Ky from the University of California Irvine
conducted an experiment where they aimed to find a correlational relationship amongst music intellect
and cognitions pertaining to abstract mathematical operations and that of spatial reasoning. This
experiment was conducted on December 1993 and revolved around three different conditions, the
Mozart sonata for two pianos in D major, a relaxation tape, and silence as the control group. A control
group is constituted of participants who fail to attain any experimental treatment, this is particularly to
associate the experimental group to the tangible example. In the original study performed at

James VI I s Desire to Create a Perfect Union Between Scotland and England
After succeeding the English thrown in 1603, James VI I of Scotland and England aimed to create the
perfect union . In 1604 he proclaimed himself king of Britain and attempted full unification of the
nations. This was to involve uniting the Scottish and English parliaments, the church and the legal

Scotland was, after all, a poor nation and full unification would provide the benefits of, strength, peace
and security for Britain and he himself would be known for his greatness on a European level.[3]
James somewhat achieved this as, French and Venetian ambassadors were impressed…by the extent
of the king s authority .[4]
James was determined to succeed with the full unification of Scotland and England. In April 1604, the
Commons were asked to consider his new title as that of king of Britain. Their objection to do so
deeply offended James as he considered it his right. Decisions were delayed because the union was
imperfect and many were unclear as to exactly what it would involve. Commons were weary of James
because he intervened in such a way they had not been used to. As he made use of his full powers,
some were classifying it as, unwarranted interference in their affairs .[5] With the continual
postponing of the acknowledgement of James s position, he exercised his right of royal prerogative
and proclaimed himself king of Great Britain in October 1604.
His intentions of full unification were made known in his persuasive opening speech to Parliament
when he said, What God hath conjoined let no man separate. I am the husband and all the whole isle is
my lawful wife. I am the head and it is the body. I am the shepherd and it is the flock. I hope,

Mesopotamia Essay
One geographical area in which civilization first developed would be Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia in
Greek means between two rivers. Mesopotamia was located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in
the Fertile Crescent region. I think that a complex society emerged in Mesopotamia because
Mesopotamia is between two rivers. That would provide the civilization with food, transportation and
trade. According to the World History volume I, the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers supplied water and
food because of the violent floods (Wallech et al., 2013, p. 33). The rivers provided food because there
are some animals that stays in the water and many animals on land would go to the rivers for water.
The rivers provided fresh water for farming and irrigation.

Biological Approach To Psychology Essay
1.0 INTRODUCTION
A lot has been said about behavioural and biological approaches in psychology i.e. the assumptions of
both approaches and how they influence disorders such as depression.
The behavioural theory states that personality is as a result of the interaction between an individual
and the environment (i.e. the society and the individual). It is focus on observable and measurable
behaviour rather than mental or emotional behaviours and different theories focus on one type of
behaviour over the other. On the contrary, the biological approach seeks to explain behaviour as a
result of interactions within the body. It is based on assumptions such as how the brain psychology can
influence behaviour and also how behaviour can be inherited ... Show more content on

These are neurotransmitter dysfunction and inherited genes.
In neurotransmitter dysfunction, the biological approach to depression explains low levels of the
neurotransmitter serotonin. This has been linked with many forms of dysfunctional behaviour such as
anxiety, excessive anger, poor social functioning and other mood disorders.
Serotonin is understood to have a variety of roles and affects brain functioning; even though it is not
known if depression is caused by serotonin levels, or whether depression causes low serotonin, or if
there is another factor causing them both.
In regards to genes, depression could be explained in terms of genetic predispositions. Research in the
area of twin and adoption studies has shown that there is a genetic link to depression. As a result it is
being advocated some individuals may have genes that predispose them to depression and other mood
disorders.
7.0 CONCLUSIONS
Behaviorism assumes that we are born as a blank slate and so equal at birth. The theorists believe that
it is the environmental factors that shape our behaviour rather than genetic or biological differences.
Behaviorism very much represents the nurture aspect of the nature nurture

Analysis Of The Movie The Car Ride Home
The car ride home was an awkward one. Neither Lexi nor Noah said a word to each other for a long

Noah could think about was that gorgeous girl that had gotten between the fight. Who was she? She

Was it the right decision though? Would being with Noah really make her happy or would her heart

sense of their confusing emotions. It was the longest car ride ever. Eventually, however, Noah pulled
into his parking space and they got out. They walked up to the fourth floor in silence before Noah
finally said, Hey do you want to come in for some tea or something? There s something I really have

Teenagers Impact Teenagers
Teenagers can impact the lives of the elderly. What are your views? Can the self obsessed, wi fi
possessed teenagers of today actually impact the lives of the elderly from a different generation?
Many of you might think no, teenagers are still young and not sensible enough to handle big tasks, let
alone impact the lives of others but let s not jump to conclusions. Through the course of this essay I
will be discussing whether teenagers can impact the lives of the elderly, positively or negatively.
Hundreds of thousands of elderly people are lonely and cut off from society in the UK and 5 million
older people say the television is their main form of company but these tech savvy teenagers can
introduce the elderly to technology and social media to keep in touch with friends and family
members. By using a computer, tablet or smartphone, the elderly can send emails and share
photographs with their friends and family. Services like Skype, FaceTime and Viber enable the elderly
to have free video chats with their contacts. The elderly can also make new friends online or reconnect
with their old ones through social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. The youth these days are
much more ambitious and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing The Two Sport Societies
Comparison Of the Two Sport Societies Comparing these two sports societies may have seemed to be
a difficult task before reading the descriptions of each. After reading and researching, it is very clear to
me that there are specific norms each share, despite the fact that they are for different sports. In each
nation, there are similarities in the dedication that each society has towards their given sport. Even
though people may not have been dying in arguments over the sport in the American society, there is
still a sense of the same dedication and fanaticism. Another thing about the societies that is
comparable is the fan base that each society presents towards their given sport. Both groups are very
large, intensely loyal and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you can see from author Williams, more and more Americans are adopting England s societal
sports norms. Things happening between the NFL and England s sports society have really taken off to
another level, and make Williams story look like baby steps. This gradual progress aside, at the end of
the day American football will never be as popular (accepted) in England as soccer, just like soccer
will never be as popular as football here in the states. That is the only conclusion that can be reached
to anyone consider the facts fairly. Ultimately, I believe that it will be these cultural differences that
will be the most important obstacle/barrier to the NFL s efforts to expand globally. The NFL s Effort
to Export American Football to International Markets Throughout the history of the NFL, there have
been several attempts at globalizing the league. In the early 1990s, the NFL attempted to bring

Challenging Society Through Art.
Challenging Society Through Art
Art makes a statement, it is as simple as that. The most preferred type of art emotes happiness to the
viewer throughout all of history. Yet, throughout the years, artists have come to challenge society s
preference of art. Artists like Gustave Courbet, Francisco Goya, and Ai Weiwei, who decided to take
the challenge and start a new progression. Social critique through art is blatantly shown throughout
each of their pieces: Stonebreakers, The Third of May 1808, and Sunflower Seeds. All three are
similar yet different. Through comparison, a similar theme still remains present: Each artist s social
critique through their artwork. These particular types of artwork will show how one moment in history
changed the view of millions throughout centuries of time. With the use of symbolism, positioning of
figures, historical context, color usage, and many other elements, these three works of art make an
inspiring statement to the world.
The first painting, Stone Breakers by Gustave Courbet depicts two males that go to work breaking
stone and wearing torn and tattered clothing. This job was usually done by the lower classes of
society. At this time in France there was a rising of revolutionary thinking. The reason for the sudden
outbreak involved many factors, the ones portrayed in this painting are the demands of the working
classes. The figures are not arranged in the typical way. Both the young and the old males are turned
away from the viewer.

Topic: Creating urban classroom communities worthy of trust
April 9, 2017
TEP outcome 4. Creating and maintaining effective learning environments for ALL students
For this reflection, I chose TEP 4 and found the article Creating urban classroom communities worthy
of trust. With all the negative we are reading about urban schools I felt that this might shed some light
on the problems and possible ways to fix them.
The article talks about building trust. Trust can be defined in one of two ways. The first as a belief or
confidence in the honesty, integrity, reliability, and justice of another person and second to hope for.

The idea is to use positive interactions with adults which they may not be accustomed to outside of

included building from the students skills. By having them lead classes she was giving them the
opportunity to earn and build trust by saying I trust you enough to let you do this for me and your

students help with policy making encouraging them to put their own ideas into play to create the

English Is An Official Language Of At Least 50 Countries.
English is an official language of at least 50 countries. In this list the United States of America is
excluded. English might be viewed as the national language due to its popularity in America but that is
not the case. The U.S. has never had an official language since its foundation. At the foundation of the
United States of America in 1780, there was some proposal by some individuals like Adam john and
others who held similar opinion to start a government English academy that would teach English with
the aim of making it the national language. This early attempt was rejected by the government
congress on the base that they were a threat to the liberty of individual American citizens. The

This assimilation through making all the documents to be in the English language will then encourage
and make people to put more incentive to learn English to promote a common culture. This will in
turn eliminate the diversity that America enjoys making other language and culture appear inferior or
second to English culture. This is where I have a problem, expecting everyone to assimilate into one
culture. Cultural backgrounds are part of what America is today. Why should we not promote and
celebrate them even to the point of forming enclaves? As long as people are willing to respect the laws
of the land, I don t see a problem with this. And I don t know of any language based racial and ethnic
conflicts that have taken place in the U.S.
Official English: Empowering Immigrants
Promoting English to be the national language helps to empower the immigrant by incorporating them
to the American system of education and making them to develop the American ideology to fit in
America society well. I have to say America may have been founded by people who spoke many
different langues but those coming to America or those that existed before English became a dominant
language need to learn English to survive. Affluence in the English language makes it easy to get a
good job and become more productive members of the society.

The language that a pastor leads like a CEO creates a connotation of harshness. It could express that
the pastor is worried about the bottom line, or the about the ministry rather than the people of the
ministry. The reality is that the people are what makes the ministry. There are times that the pastor
needs to make decisions based on the longevity of the ministry. Building programs would be a good
example of this reality. Sometimes building programs will be developed beyond the years of the
congregation. A pastor also has many organizational responsibilities as he leads the church in growth.
A church of sixty members can be given the care necessary to each individual of a church. A member
that belongs to a church of one thousand members also needs that same individual care. One man
cannot fulfill that same level of care unless others are raised up to help the pastor. The CEO side of a

Jacqueline Kennedy s style certainly left an impact on fashion from day one in the White House. Even
before her entrance, her clothing style was already being scrutinized (Adler 74). Luckily, she never
cared about what others thought about her appearance. Mrs. Kennedy never intended to influence
fashion as much as she did (Adler 92). After all, her tastes were far beyond the bounds of the

inauguration day, she wore a beige wool coat with a sable collar and matching sable muff designed by
American designer Oleg Cassini (Adler 84). Both of their names instantly became a staple in the

Laurent Clerc s Deaf School
Laurent Clerc was born on December 26, 1785. It is believed that Clerc became deaf by falling off of
his high chair into the kitchen fireplace around age one. He had gotten a severe burn on his right
cheek, and a fever developed, and later on his hearing and smelling senses were damaged. It was
never quite clear whether he was born deaf, or if it had been a cause of his accident. Clerc s parents
had tried many different treatments to get Clercs hearing back, although none of them succeeded.
Clerc did not go to school and didn t learn to read or write. For 11 years Clerc stayed at home instead
of going to school. While at home Clerc spent his time either exploring the village, or taking care of
the animals, such as; cows, turkeys, and horses. Eventually, at age 12 Clercs uncle godfather, Laurent
Clerc, who he was named after, entered him into the Institut National des Jeune Sourds Muets, which
was the first public school for the deaf in the world. In school, Clerc s assistant teacher, Abbe
Margaron, tried to teach Clerc to pronounce his words, which Clerc had a difficult time with this, at
one point his difficulty in pronouncing words enraged Abbe so much that he hit Clerc So hard
underneath his chin, which caused Clerc to accidentally bite his tongue so hard, he decided he wanted
nothing to do with speaking, and would never again learn to speak. Because of this experience, it later

The Relationship Between Executive Compensation And Firm...
INTRODUCTION
The relationship between executive compensation and firm performance is a topic of major concern
amongst academics, professionals, and regulators. In an effort to identify a relationship between
executive pay and firm performance, scholars have conducted research since 1925 and have
established that compensation packages are the primary means of incentivizing managers to achieve
certain financial targets or goals. These goals include certain performance measures that can be broken
down into three main categories: accounting based, measures, market based measures, and non
financial based measures. Additionally, compensation packages have become an increasingly
researched topic due to the surge in levels of compensation in ... Show more content on

Additional features include benefit plans, tailored life insurance and retirement plans. Additionally, a
unique characteristic of an executive s compensation package is the executive s ability to negotiate
features of their compensation packages. This paper will primarily focus on the long term incentives
offered by firms today.
To effectively understand compensation packages, it is critical to understand agency theory. Agency
theory represents the differences in goals between management (agent) and the firm s shareholders
(principal). According to Murphy (1998), compensation plans are a solution to the goal incongruence
between management and its shareholders and will be explained later in this paper.
The purpose of this paper is to understand the relationship between certain firm characteristics and the
use of financial or non financial performance measures in determining executive compensation. Prior
research will be discussed to establish the role, nature, and impact of compensation packages.
Furthermore, this paper will explore the relationship between a firm s profitability, growth, and size
when determining the use of financial versus non financial measures when setting executive
compensation, if any relationship exists.

nature of this research is inconclusive. This can be

Blankenagel notes that restless movement and a longing without goal, limit, or aim (p. 3) were other
characteristics of romanticism. The romantic believed that such divine beauty could not be found in
passivity, but rather in fervent communion with nature. Historians note that the Romantic Movement
was a sort of call to arms against the sovereignty of logic. Their modus operandi was to invade pure
reason ... with free flowing fantasy[, a]n emphasis on the free (Gasparov et al.). The imagination was
to become the new lens through which life was viewed. In terms of time, the Movement is placed into
three periods: The first phase, which ranged from the mid 1790s to 1800s; the second phase, from the
1810s to 1840s; and the third phase, said to be post 1848 ( Romanticism ). The first phase, known as
the early period, set the stage for the rise of the romantic consciousness that would saturate the lives of
the romantics. The second, or mid period, denotes the timespan in which romanticism spread
throughout Europe. The third and final phase, the late period, comes as the values and beliefs of the
movement become commonplace (Gasparov et al.). In the social and political realm, romanticism and
the ilk therein showed interesting behavior. Romantics portrayed the common day extroverted
introvert. They would at times take to a public forum to have themselves heard, either in voice or in

To be prejudiced is to have a preconceived opinion about others. An individual may be good, noble,
generous, kind, and helpful, but may be rated by the image of his race, religion, and nationality rather

not inherited: it is taught . Prejudice is unlearned as members of various groups come to know each

Philippines s Macroeconomic Perspective Of The...
Philippines repeatedly experienced boom and bust in its economy since 1980. Having faced huge debt
crisis in 1983 and the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, it can be said that the nation is back on its feet
from being the sick man of Asia to a tiger cub, and becoming realigned with the ASEAN 6
(Worldbank). The GDP growth has been growing at 4.5 percent under Macapagal Arroyo and even
better under Aquino s at 6 percent. Account balances also recorded surpluses repeatedly since 2003
(CIA Factbook).
There are many factors that played to this growth, clean governance, better tax collection, the growing
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and the remittances by over 4 million overseas Filipino workers
(OFW). Despite this growth, poverty is still among the challenge of the country. With a population of
over 99 million (est. 2014), 25.2 percent is still living under poverty line (CIA Factbook). By

Dna Marker Research Paper
A DNA marker (size standard or a DNA ladder) is loaded into the first well of the gel. The fragments
in the marker are of a known length so it can be used to help approximate the size of the fragments in
the samples. The prepared DNA samples are then pipetted into the remaining wells of the gel. When
this is done the lid is placed on the electrophoresis tank making sure that the orientation of the gel and
positive and negative electrodes is correct. To separate the fragments, the electrical current is then
turned on so that the negatively charged DNA moves through the gel towards the positive side of the
gel. The distance the DNA has migrated in the gel can be judged visually by monitoring the migration
of the loading buffer dye. The electrical current is left on long enough to ensure that the DNA
fragments move far enough across the gel to separate them, but not so long that they run off the end of

My Soul Is Rested Summary
The book My soul is rested , by Howell Raines takes place during the civil rights movement in the
South. Howell Raines was a white southern journalist who interviewed many people like activist,
lawyers, and many other people in the states of Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi that were involved
in the civil rights movement. As known, Rosa Parks was the person who sparked the civil rights
movement by refusing to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus for the one white citizen
that was left standing on the bus. Unfortunately she was arrested, fingerprinted, incarcerated, and
trialed over this situation. Because of Rosa Parks courage on December 1, 1955 people are now able
to ride, sit, and coexists with other nonblack people. Just like two of the many activists, Horton
(white) and Malone Jones (black), were two important characters in the civil rights movements. The
Civil Rights Movement was a social movement in the U.S. to end racial segregation and
discrimination against blacks. Raines wrote this book in order for people to tell their side of their story
in the civil rights movement. This book is about political and social history. It s also a tribute to
everyone that made history happen. Myles Horton was one of the many people interviewed by Raines

The Major Effects Of Concussions In The NFL

Concussions in the NFL
Has the NFL done enough to help prevent concussions? That is the question that many people are
asking, including people who are currently in the NFL. The NFL has been in a bit of controversy over
the past couple of years due to players and doctors coming forward and talking about concussions
caused by playing football which can lead to longer and more extreme damage to the brain. The NFL
has been in a well known lawsuit from former players. The players are suing because of receiving
concussions while playing football and not being given proper treatment. The NFL has had to make
new rules and introduce a stricter policy when dealing with concussions. Advances in technology have
made it possible for people to be able to research and understand what caused the concussion and how
to prevent it. The NFL is now trying to come up with new ways to prevent concussions from
happening. Concussions can be limited in the NFL.
One of the problems of the NFL not dealing as well with concussions is the fact that not many people
used to know of the major effects that a concussion can have on the human brain. A concussion is a
type of traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head (NFL Concussions). Common symptoms

Analysis Of The Poem Little Red Cap Essay
13 English Literature.
3.8 Develop an informed understanding of literature and/or language using critical texts
TOPIC: To what extent does Carol Ann Duffy present a feminist perspective in the poem Little Red
Cap .
The history of women has been a history of silence. (Hillary Clinton, 1995, Beijing)
This powerful statement from Hillary Clinton underpins the injustices of female representation in the
past. This silence is evident in the Bible verse, Let your women keep silent in the churches, (I
Corinthians 14: 34 37) and Virginia Woolf s concept that Anon ... was often a woman [who could not
otherwise get the respect of male counterparts]. (Virginia Woolf, 1928, A Room of One s Own.
PAGE). These are only two examples of how females have been largely disempowered by the male
constraints of literature. In recent history feminists have deemed it necessary to research the lost and
forgotten females and retell history from a distinctly female perspective. This issue is of significant
concern to Carol Ann Duffy, the current Poet Laureate. Duffy subverts fairytales, myths and historical
stories to empower women, giving them a voice and allowing their stories to be heard. This essay will
argue that Carol Ann Duffy presents a feminist perspective in the poem Little Red Cap .
The Poem Little Red Cap is based on the storyline of Little Red Riding Hood , originally titled Little
Red Cap. This initial story by Charles Perrault and later the Grimm Brothers was a cautionary

conflict are many. Patton goes on stating, At best, conflicts result in beneficial changes in the
workplace; at worst, it can impact patients lives. (Patton, 2013) By learning to constructively resolve
conflict, we can turn a potentially destructive situation into an opportunity for creativity and
enhancement for performance. Janice Frates stated, ...,having work teams at all organizational levels
openly and vigorously debate their ideas is a form of healthy conflict that produces both stronger team
relationships and better work outcomes. In regards to the St. Clair Hospital plan for cost control, a
healthy conflict did not arise.
Types of Conflict Identified Types of conflict identified throughout this particular case study would
include intrapersonal conflict and inter organizational conflict. Frates explained that intrapersonal
conflict is when the interdependence of departments within an organization can lead to conflict which
is often grounded in differing professional training and different measures

Functions Of Effective Internal Control System
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
Banks occupy a critical position in a complex financial system that supplies the money and credit
needs of the economy. The unique characteristic of a commercial bank is that it also creates money,
and it is this particular feature of the commercial banks which distinguishes them from non banking
financial institution. Banks ability to promote growth and development depends on the extent to which
financial transactions are conducted with trust and less risk. If the foundation on which a bank(s) are
built lack institutional, government and above all public confidence, such a bank may collapse. So
therefore, it is essential that every single bank must have an internal control system were the internal
audit department makes sure that their accounting principles provide an effective means of recording
and reporting monetary transactions, providing organisation information and securing the company s
asset from fraud and misappropriation (Achibong, 1993).
BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY A system of effective internal control is a critical component of all
banks management and a foundation for the safe and sound operation of banking organizations
system. Strong internal controls can help to certify that the aims and purposes of banking
organisations will be met; the banks will achieve lasting cost effective goals and keep dependable
monetary and administrative reporting systems. Such a structure can also help to make sure that the
bank will act in

Essay about Hockey-The Rodney Dangerfield Of Sports
Hockey, The Rodney Dangerfield Of Sports
In the US, there are four major sports; football, baseball, basketball, and hockey. Out of the four,
hockey gets the least amount of respect. This is something that bothers me as hockey player and fan,
and it also bothers other hockey fans around the country. They way that hockey is covered in the
newspapers, on television, and not just professional hockey. It goes the same for college hockey and
also high school hockey.
Lets start at the top with the NHL. The NHL has a TV deal with ESPN and ABC so that the two
companies share the Stanley Cup Finals. The NHL s championship series. (It should also be noted that
ABC owns ESPN). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was about a week ago when the Devils were playing Toronto in the second round. The game was on
ESPN for people to watch in all parts of the country except the Tri State area. Here, we are expected to
watch the game on the Devils local station, which happens to be FOX Sports Net NY. The only
problem with this is that my cable deal doesn t give me FOX Sports Net NY, therefore I was unable to
watch a very entertaining game. Even the other three sports have their first round games on network
television. But some people who even have cable, can t watch a first round game of hockey in the
playoffs.
Also, the way that the NHL is covered in the newspapers and on TV is different to that of other sports.
When you read the newspaper the only time that you will see a hockey game make the front page of
the sports section is in the local paper when the local team is winning. If they are not winning or not in
the playoffs, you will not read much about hockey. And the same thing goes for the newscasts . When
they do the sports, the only time that they will talk about hockey first is if the local team had a big win
or is in the playoffs.
These problems aren t just in the NHL and professional. It also goes down to college hockey. If you
live in this area, the only time you will be able to watch c college hockey game is during the Final
Four. Which, ironically, is also

Think about fever. It is nothing else, than the response of the body to make its defenses more active.
This was one type of tendon problem: Tendonitis. De Quervain tendonitis, for instance, in the wrist.
Tendinosis
Second tendon problem that occurs invariably with athletic activity, especially when starting is
tendinosis.
It has to do simply with normal growth of tendons in the body, when they are subjected to increased
loads.
A normal process, but nonetheless painful.
How is that?
Think about growing pains in children.
If you have children or younger brothers and sisters, you know they all complain from pain, usually in
the lower extremities, during maximal growth, especially during early adolescence.
Tendons subjected to bigger loads than usual, grow in a similar way.
How does this problem manifest itself?
Deep pain, or discomfort in tendons or fasciae (Flat tendon structures).
Painful limitation of movements even is frequently associated.
So if such pain occurs after you increased tremendously your maximal load, then you don t need to
bother!
It s normal.
Sometimes, it lasts for one whole year or even 18 months.
This is again not abnormal.
And all of a sudden it

Below is a diagram which illustrates how the attack overwhelmed the Web Server.
Executive Summary
The attack performed on the network had the intention of making the online services provided to
students unusable during a critical time of need for those systems. The attack was first performed by
acquiring the Administrator password for the systems and using each system to perform a large
quantity of requests for service to the web servers. By dissecting what occurred steps can be put in
place to prevent such an attack in the future. This attack can be summarized in a few bullets:
The attacker was allowed to install software without having Administrator rights

These programs detect when keystroke input is being directed to another location besides the currently
targeted window. Most programs will send an alert when such activity is detected providing a means
for early detection and removal before sensitive data is obtained.
For the actual attack that took place there are changes that need to be performed on both the client s
side as well as the server s side. These changes involve limiting the quantities of request either side
can make. For the client s I would recommend a firewall placed between them and the server which
would be configured to limit the amount of requests to be made to any outside source and either notify
and administrator or outright blocking additional requests beyond the threshold.
The same implementation should be made for the server as well. In the server s case the firewall
placed between it and any client should limit the quantity of connection from a source IP. The
unfortunate side of this, and why the client firewall be implemented, is that many clients can be
located behind one source IP address. This means that the server s firewall configuration needs to be
more lenient the the client firewall.
In addition to adding a firewall, the server itself should only allow a certain amount of it s CPU,
memory, and available bandwidth to processing these requests. The reason for this is that the
remaining resource availability allows for an administrator to gain access and

Why Are African Elephants Significant To The Ecosystem
One might ask oneself these following questions: Why are African elephants significant to the
ecosystem? Why are African elephants essential to humans? The African elephant s current
conservation status is vulnerable. The key concerns of the decline African elephant s population are
habitat loss and poaching due to human activity. An African elephant is dominant of its environment
and provides a serious impact on the ecology by removing trees, trampling grasses, churning up water,
and making mud wallows. Also, they are important to the African culture.
Currently, Africa as a continent is starting to lose its most valuable mammal as a result of poaching.
Poaching is the practice of illegal activities consisting of hunting, killing, and/or capturing an animal.
The purpose of poaching in this case is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These elephants are sold to dealers, who make materialistic items from them. The rising wealth makes
poaching easy since people are now able to afford ivory, and humans need to realize that wildlife
poaching is a serious crime. Elephants are large animals that need space to live, reproduce and
continue to offer an important to other animals and humans in the environment. More elephants are
dying in Africa than are being born due to an increase in poaching that results in their habitat loss.
Their natural habitats geographically are located in south, central, and east Africa in dense forest and
deserts. African elephants are the keystone herbivorous species of the African environment. They play
a critical role in maintaining a balance for the other species in the environment.
Most people do not know the African elephant s main

Character Of Satan
Satan as portrayed by John Milton is a very different kind of a character. Abercrombie remarks
Paradise Lost exists for one figure that is Satan . He is also the most important character of the epic.
The leader of the rebel angels in Heaven and the uncrowned monarch of Hell, Satan uses his words
tactfully which helps know his personality. When we hear the word, Satan, we immediately think evil.
Evilness is the trademark of Satan s personality but Satan actually has characteristics of a respectable
person, which is quite evident through his speeches. Satan s character is multifaceted and can be
interpreted in numerous lights.
But first we must know who Satan was. Satan used to be one of the most important of God s angels.
He rebelled against God. Satan persuaded a third of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He opens the speech as a magnificent set piece. It reveals the character of Satan an aggressive rebel
and a great leader. His encouragements, haughtiness and sympathy with his followers involve bold
words and sentiments.
Satan s next speech begins with line157 and ends with line 192. Fallen Cherub, to be weak is
miserable,............ If not what resolution from despair.
In his second speech Satan motivates other angels tat they cant offer to be weak when their aim should
be evil. Their main aim now should be to reverse good to evil. He is trying to gather his power and
influence back.
One interesting aspect to be seen is that Satan is acting like a hero. He doesn t give up on something
once he starts. Satan greatest quality as a leader is his readiness to act under all circumstances. Not
only is he ready to face the terrors but also he motivates and directs all the angels to come out of their
gloom and take action. Satan is trying to infuse fresh courage into them.
He indeed is the harbinger of light among to the depressed followers, but such a light that makes them,
all the more fierce, destroying everything that they may consider

Essay On Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome
Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome is a very serious birth defect. Studies say, each year approximately...
640 to 1440 infants in the United States are born with HLHS (Paediatr Child Health,2). Hypoplastic
Left Heart Syndrome, also known as HLHS, is a birth defect where the left ventricle of the heart is
either underdeveloped or absent. Today, there are heart surgeries that can help children born with
HLHS survive longer and sometimes even live long, happy lives. Though, not all children survive
HLHS. Many infants die whilst waiting for a donor heart. I remember standing next to the small,
white casket. A little white blanket and flowers had been placed atop of it. Inside laid a little girl. Her
tiny body, motionless. A stuffed animal put together by her aunt and sisters laid next to her. My family

slept on a mattress on the floor in her living room. I refused to go anywhere without my favorite

were at the hospital a lot. I felt I could not trust anyone. I had no one to share my secrets with. I began
to hide my feelings. I plastered a fake smile on my face and pretended everything was going to be
okay. I knew it was not going to be okay. If Kaylee got her heart transplant, the family would have to
get rid of our cat, Maggie. If Kaylee did not get a heart in time, she would die. Kaylee was put on a
heart transplant list, and she waited there for a donor heart. She waited and waited, until her little body
could not take the waiting anymore. She passed away on August 18, 2011. It was a sad day, for all of
the Krumm family. We had her funeral at St. Veronica Church, and buried her in Section 13 of Mount

  • 2. The Struggle In Sonny s Blue By James Baldwin Sonny s Blue by James Baldwin is a story about two brothers who grew up in poverty. One brother went on to become a teacher, while the other pursued his dreams to become a musician and finds himself in prison due to drug use. The story begins with the narrator finding out about Sonny s arrest. It s easy to see his shock and almost disbelief. It takes the narrator a while to write to Sonny, but eventually he does, and they regain communication with one another after over a year of silence. Sonny is released from prison and goes to stay with the narrator and his family. He is staying clean, and he continues to pursue his dreams of making music. The narrator also finally sees that Sonny is very talented and that music really was his calling. The two brothers are very different, though they grew up in the same setting. They have different ways of escaping Harlem, they have different aspirations and goals, and they have different personalities and views on life. From the beginning of the story, it is clear that the brothers have different views of Harlem and how to become successful. The oldest of the two, the narrator, who remains unnamed, became successful after returning from war and became a teacher. He wed and had a family. Sonny, the younger brother, was successful in a sense because he got out of Harlem, but at the same sense, he fell into drug use and wound up in prison, trapped behind bars. The narrator sees the drug use and the poverty in Harlem, but he chooses to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Leonardo Da Vinci And The Last Supper Matthew Greiner Artist Project 8/2/15 Leonardo Da Vinci is most famous for the Mona Lisa and his countless inventions. He was many things, an inventor, an artist and a scientist. Here, we are going to mostly talk about his artist side(Although, personally i would rather write about his inventor side) His two most commonly known paintings were Mona Lisa and The Last Supper . Two wonderful pieces of art by an amazing artist. he was born on April 15 1452 in Vinci, Italy, died May 2 1519. He heavily influenced the renaissance era and is still influencing us today. At an early age, Leonardo da Vinci moved to Florence, where he apprenticed with the painter and sculptor Verrochio. Da Vinci s brilliance was obvious even at this early stage in his life. He often experimented with different artistic forms and techniques. Being surrounded by Italian art, he often used oils in his paintings . His work sparked a new style of art in Italy. In 1481, at the age of 30, da Vinci moved to Milan to work for the Duke of Milan. Although relatively few of da Vinci s paintings and sculptures survive, two of his extant works are among the world s most well known and admired paintings. The first is da Vinci s The Last Supper, painted during his time in Milan, from about 1495 to 1498. A oil mural on plaster, The Last Supper was created for the city s Monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Also known as The Cenacle, this work measures about 15 by 29 feet and is the artist s only surviving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The company Mr Mrs Clark deal with destruction and loss in their show Smash it Up. To fully understand the performance we must explore the history of this particular art form and how destruction has been used with creative indent elsewhere. Inspired by the non consensual destruction of the mural, the three actors investigate their own attitude to destruction as a creative force. A performance needs more, especially in this day and age where vandalisms are done to artworks somewhat regularly. A famous example of this being the destruction of Picasso s Guernica when a young artist spray painted the words: Kill Lies All across the bottom half of the canvas. A more interesting example is the one of Ai Weiwei s, Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn. A series of photographs where the artist is shown destroying a priceless piece of art. • 5. Blood Glucose Level Changes Due Exercise And Serving Size Introduction Our whole project is surrounded around blood glucose level changes due exercise and serving size, so that brings about the question of what is blood glucose? Blood glucose is the sugar that is moved throughout the bloodstream to provide energy to all cells in the body. In simple terms, it is very important biological occurrence that drives the body by giving it the raw energy to power all the body s functions. To test for this occurrence, there are two main methods to test for the levels of blood glucose in the bloodstream. One method is having the blood drawn intravenously, getting blood drawn using a needle, and sending it to a lab to conduct the action. The other method that is much more convenient and less costly is using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The kidneys are quite busy forming about 160 liters of filtrate daily (Powis, 1985, p. 182). This is very important because it is through the liver and kidneys that the nutrients start traveling through the bloodstream, especially glucose, sugar. Glucose is the favored energy fuel for most cells of the body (Silverstein, 1994, p. 28). Glucose is essentially sugar, which is the primitive source of energy for most of living organisms, and humans are no exception. Normally people have the biochemistry within their bodies to regulate their own blood sugar levels. However, this is not the case for some people, unfortunately, due to factors. The hormone insulin, which, helps sugar enter the body cells, is basically inactive in some people, which causes their whole biological system to start to deteriorate(Goodheart, 1990, p. 117). This is known as diabetes. Diabetes can come in two types, i.e type 1 and 2, which are caused by genetics or poor dietary habits. This can cause conditions like hyperglycemia, which is, a blood sugar level that is higher than normal (Goodheart, 1990, p.117). The opposite of this is hypoglycemia, which is, a blood sugar that is lower than normal (Goodheart, 1990, p.117). Research into blood glucose was then extensively done to help out with managing diabetes since there was no cure. This led to the creation of synthetic insulin that diabetics inject themselves to regulate their levels and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. A Midsummer Night s Dream Comparison Essay The True Power of Adaptations Some of the world s greatest storylines comes from book adaptations. For example, West Side Story, an American Classic film, considered it is one of the greatest films in history, it was an adaptation to Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter: etc. They all came from books or other forms of written stories. Good adaptations successfully accomplish the storyline from the written book and make it even better. I myself have watched two adaptations to A Midsummer Night s Dream: A 1999 movie directed by Michael Hoffman, and a play performed by Rice University. The movie was not perfect. Having a good healthy relationship in which you selflessly and unconditionally love someone is a risk. It is like spending money on stocks. Someday that stock might crash. Likewise your friend might get extremely sick, die, or even betray you. Or your friend might be in danger, and you would have to step up and take the risk. Truly caring for your friend comes at a price. In the story, both in the play and in the movie, Egeus and Theseus were discussing on Hermia and how she needs to marry Demetrius. Since Hermia does not love Demetrius, she wants to marry Lysander. When Egeus and Theseus offer Hermia to either die, become a nun all her life, or marry Demetrius, Hermia is not afraid. Fantine And Cosette Though Jean valjean struggles and conflicts only got more strenuous, he still continued, if not to an even greater extent, his selfless devotion to the ill fated members of society. The exemplary heroism, compassion, and love of Jean Valjean s character was further deepened through the meeting of Cosette and Fantine. The mother and daughter both express a cry for help, a call which although difficult to answer, was dutifully plowed after by Jean Valjean. Fantine is a reflection of the horrific outcome of French society. Exploited by the thenardiers, and undoubtedly naive to the intentions of others, she is the weak prey oblivious of her predators. Jean Valjean steps into her life, and by doing so, he cultivates a strong empathy for her situation, one which is quite familiar to himself. Fantine causes Jean Valjean to look back at the character of his darkest days, and thus, make a decision to firmly not revert back to his old ways. In fact, she is the embodiment of a part of a debt to society he must pay, and so Jean Valjean is determined to help Fantine in any way he can. • 13. The Mozart s Effect Theory Of The Mozart Effect There are numerous theories as to what factors may affect one s ability to perform adequately. The Mozart Effect theory was established by Rauscher, Shaw, and Ky (1993). The Mozart Effect refers to a set of research results indicating that listening to Mozart s music may stimulate a short term enhancement on the enactment of certain assignments. This theory supported that listening to music composed by Mozart would increase their ability to perform accurately on a both mathematical operation and spatial reasoning test. The researchers proposed that music lacking complexity or that is repetitive may interfere with your ability to execute the task effectively, rather than enhance, abstract reasoning (Rauscher, Shaw, Ky). Rauscher, Shaw, and Ky from the University of California Irvine conducted an experiment where they aimed to find a correlational relationship amongst music intellect and cognitions pertaining to abstract mathematical operations and that of spatial reasoning. This experiment was conducted on December 1993 and revolved around three different conditions, the Mozart sonata for two pianos in D major, a relaxation tape, and silence as the control group. As he made use of his full powers, some were classifying it as, unwarranted interference in their affairs .[5] With the continual postponing of the acknowledgement of James s position, he exercised his right of royal prerogative and proclaimed himself king of Great Britain in October 1604. His intentions of full unification were made known in his persuasive opening speech to Parliament when he said, What God hath conjoined let no man separate. Mesopotamia was located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in the Fertile Crescent region. I think that a complex society emerged in Mesopotamia because Mesopotamia is between two rivers. That would provide the civilization with food, transportation and trade. According to the World History volume I, the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers supplied water and food because of the violent floods (Wallech et al., 2013, p. 33). • 17. Biological Approach To Psychology Essay 1.0 INTRODUCTION A lot has been said about behavioural and biological approaches in psychology i.e. the assumptions of both approaches and how they influence disorders such as depression. The behavioural theory states that personality is as a result of the interaction between an individual and the environment (i.e. the society and the individual). It is focus on observable and measurable behaviour rather than mental or emotional behaviours and different theories focus on one type of behaviour over the other. On the contrary, the biological approach seeks to explain behaviour as a result of interactions within the body. It is based on assumptions such as how the brain psychology can influence behaviour and also how behaviour can be inherited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are neurotransmitter dysfunction and inherited genes. In neurotransmitter dysfunction, the biological approach to depression explains low levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin. This has been linked with many forms of dysfunctional behaviour such as anxiety, excessive anger, poor social functioning and other mood disorders. Serotonin is understood to have a variety of roles and affects brain functioning; even though it is not known if depression is caused by serotonin levels, or whether depression causes low serotonin, or if there is another factor causing them both. In regards to genes, depression could be explained in terms of genetic predispositions. Research in the area of twin and adoption studies has shown that there is a genetic link to depression. As a result it is being advocated some individuals may have genes that predispose them to depression and other mood disorders. 7.0 CONCLUSIONS Behaviorism assumes that we are born as a blank slate and so equal at birth. The most preferred type of art emotes happiness to the viewer throughout all of history. Yet, throughout the years, artists have come to challenge society s preference of art. Artists like Gustave Courbet, Francisco Goya, and Ai Weiwei, who decided to take the challenge and start a new progression. Social critique through art is blatantly shown throughout each of their pieces: Stonebreakers, The Third of May 1808, and Sunflower Seeds. All three are similar yet different. These particular types of artwork will show how one moment in history changed the view of millions throughout centuries of time. With the use of symbolism, positioning of figures, historical context, color usage, and many other elements, these three works of art make an inspiring statement to the world. The first painting, Stone Breakers by Gustave Courbet depicts two males that go to work breaking stone and wearing torn and tattered clothing. This job was usually done by the lower classes of society. At this time in France there was a rising of revolutionary thinking. It could express that the pastor is worried about the bottom line, or the about the ministry rather than the people of the ministry. The reality is that the people are what makes the ministry. There are times that the pastor needs to make decisions based on the longevity of the ministry. Building programs would be a good example of this reality. Sometimes building programs will be developed beyond the years of the congregation. A pastor also has many organizational responsibilities as he leads the church in growth. A church of sixty members can be given the care necessary to each individual of a church. A member that belongs to a church of one thousand members also needs that same individual care. Agency theory represents the differences in goals between management (agent) and the firm s shareholders (principal). When this is done the lid is placed on the electrophoresis tank making sure that the orientation of the gel and positive and negative electrodes is correct. To separate the fragments, the electrical current is then turned on so that the negatively charged DNA moves through the gel towards the positive side of the gel. The distance the DNA has migrated in the gel can be judged visually by monitoring the migration of the loading buffer dye. Howell Raines was a white southern journalist who interviewed many people like activist, lawyers, and many other people in the states of Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi that were involved in the civil rights movement. As known, Rosa Parks was the person who sparked the civil rights movement by refusing to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus for the one white citizen that was left standing on the bus. Unfortunately she was arrested, fingerprinted, incarcerated, and trialed over this situation. Because of Rosa Parks courage on December 1, 1955 people are now able to ride, sit, and coexists with other nonblack people. Just like two of the many activists, Horton (white) and Malone Jones (black), were two important characters in the civil rights movements. The Civil Rights Movement was a social movement in the U.S. to end racial segregation and discrimination against blacks. Raines wrote this book in order for people to tell their side of their story in the civil rights movement. This book is about political and social history. It s also a tribute to everyone that made history happen. Myles Horton was one of the many people interviewed by Raines in My Soul is Rested . That is the question that many people are asking, including people who are currently in the NFL. The NFL has been in a bit of controversy over the past couple of years due to players and doctors coming forward and talking about concussions caused by playing football which can lead to longer and more extreme damage to the brain. The NFL has been in a well known lawsuit from former players. The players are suing because of receiving concussions while playing football and not being given proper treatment. The NFL has had to make new rules and introduce a stricter policy when dealing with concussions. Advances in technology have made it possible for people to be able to research and understand what caused the concussion and how to prevent it. The NFL is now trying to come up with new ways to prevent concussions from happening. Concussions can be limited in the NFL. Analysis Of The Poem Little Red Cap Essay 13 English Literature. 3.8 Develop an informed understanding of literature and/or language using critical texts TOPIC: To what extent does Carol Ann Duffy present a feminist perspective in the poem Little Red Cap . The history of women has been a history of silence. (Hillary Clinton, 1995, Beijing) This powerful statement from Hillary Clinton underpins the injustices of female representation in the past. This silence is evident in the Bible verse, Let your women keep silent in the churches, (I Corinthians 14: 34 37) and Virginia Woolf s concept that Anon ... was often a woman [who could not otherwise get the respect of male counterparts]. (Virginia Woolf, 1928, A Room of One s Own. PAGE). These are only two examples of how females have been largely disempowered by the male constraints of literature. In recent history feminists have deemed it necessary to research the lost and forgotten females and retell history from a distinctly female perspective. This issue is of significant concern to Carol Ann Duffy, the current Poet Laureate. Duffy subverts fairytales, myths and historical stories to empower women, giving them a voice and allowing their stories to be heard. This essay will argue that Carol Ann Duffy presents a feminist perspective in the poem Little Red Cap . The Poem Little Red Cap is based on the storyline of Little Red Riding Hood , originally titled Little Red Cap. These programs detect when keystroke input is being directed to another location besides the currently targeted window. Most programs will send an alert when such activity is detected providing a means for early detection and removal before sensitive data is obtained. For the actual attack that took place there are changes that need to be performed on both the client s side as well as the server s side. These changes involve limiting the quantities of request either side can make. For the client s I would recommend a firewall placed between them and the server which would be configured to limit the amount of requests to be made to any outside source and either notify and administrator or outright blocking additional requests beyond the threshold. The same implementation should be made for the server as well. In the server s case the firewall placed between it and any client should limit the quantity of connection from a source IP. The unfortunate side of this, and why the client firewall be implemented, is that many clients can be located behind one source IP address. This means that the server s firewall configuration needs to be more lenient the the client firewall. In addition to adding a firewall, the server itself should only allow a certain amount of it s CPU, memory, and available bandwidth to processing these requests. The reason for this is that the remaining resource availability allows for an administrator to gain access and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
