Yolanda Cruz s Impact On The Chicano Art Movement
Yolanda LГіpez was born in 1942 and raised in San Diego, California. A third generation Chicana,
she knew from a very young age that she wanted to make art. Over the years she s created plenty
of it. Lopez has produced films, painted, done printmaking, and educated others. Yolanda struggled
early, repeating 1st grade more than once due to the fact that she did not speak English. Despite
these struggles, she felt a connection to art in her classrooms, and began using whatever she could
get her hands on to make it. After high school, LГіpez relocated to San Francisco and attended San
Francisco State University. While there, she saw many black and chicano students assert and
involve themselves in politics, and was motivated to join school groups run by students. These
groups focused on issues such as minority scholarships and ethnic studies programs, raising
awareness and focusing on advancement and equality. She eventually left the University without
graduating and moved to the Mission district, where she became involved in the Bay Area Chicano
Art Movement. LГіpez says it was in the Mission that her art, politics, and personal history all came

The Real Slumdog s Documentary
a. Globalization/pg. 29: The growing interconnections among nations due to the expansion of
capitalism
The Real Slumdog s documentary was very interesting and eye opening. The amount of
businesses that are run in the one square mile area of Dharavi affect the entire capitalism of the
world. Look at it this way, the Slumdog s as they re called make crappy money to make some very
intricate products. These products will be shipped from Mumbai to the rest of the world eventually.
As the products are marked up by middle men, the money does not filter its way back to the Dharavi
slum. Thus, the products might be ten dollars in a store, but initially the slum workers get paid
barely anything and do not get to see the profit that they could. These people work to survive.
Mumbai is a very intricate and bustling city, and has a large amount of money and products
moved through it each day. In the inner city though, it is not as cheap to make the products.
There also are not the massive amounts of laborers that are found in Dharavi. Moving away from
product production we can look at the dumps of Dharavi. A large amount of the trash from the
inner city is sent to the slum to be processed. The workers that sort through the trash are called
rag pickers. The rag pickers make very little money for what they do, but the work that they do is
very important. They separate the waste into different categories to be processed and recycled
accordingly. They separate the metals from plastics, and

Argumentative Essay on the Pros and Cons of Dolphins...
Argumentative Essay on the Pros and Cons of Dolphins Living in Captivity versus the Pros and
Cons of Dolphins Living in the Wild.
The Common Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops Truncatus) are probably the most popular species
of dolphins around. Coming under the order of Cetecea and the family of Delphinidae, the
bottlenose dolphins are closely related to whales and are highly intelligent creatures (source 7).
They are widely distributed around the world in the deep tropical and sub tropical seas as well as
other warm regions. For this reason, there is no recorded global estimate of the number of
Bottlenose Dolphins in this world. According to source 9, it is regarded as a common cetacean,
and too large and strong to be captured by accident. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Captured animal s natural hunting and survival instincts grow dull after living the lax life in a
tank. Upon being released back into the wild, they are unable to fend for themselves and are
quickly hunted by predators. Also, experience has proven that the spectators of educational animal
shows come away with little thought for the welfare of the animals and more for other exciting
things like fun rides, etc. Spectators mostly go to shows not for the education but for the
entertainment of watching different and sometimes weird animals perform. Besides, many do not
consider the mental distress that plagues the dolphins that are suddenly brought into captivity to
be studied. Again referring to source 1 and 6, the animals may most likely not be able to adept
well and this may increase their aggression towards their tank mates as well as show other signs of
obvious mental suffering. What s more, it is obviously not easy to care for these animals, not to
mention costly. Safaris and parks fork out billions a year for the maintenance and care of their
animals. Looking at SeaWorld s impressive facilities as an example, imagine the cost for designing,
building and then maintaining the aquariums, plumbing, dietary needs, etc of the animals. And
even then, it is no match for Mother Nature. Also, the ethical side of dealing with all living things
dictates that it is immoral to interfere with the lives of the dolphins. We violate

Little Women By Louisa Alcott
Little Women by Louisa Alcott
Little Women can be viewed as a classic book or girl s book. It was written after the Civil War
after the author received endless demand from the young female readers. Initially they were
published as two books where Chapters 1 to 23 where issues back in 1868 under Little Women
title, however, after becoming a highly sensational success, Chapters 24 to 47 were published in
1869 under the title Good Wives Louisa (1869). Louisa May Alcotts personal life is demonstrated
in the first book hence acting as a form of semiautobiographical where it largely reflects on the
experiences as she grows up with her sisters in New England. She was born in Germantown,
Pennsylvania on November 29, 1832 (Reisen). Thus, the book reflects her personal live with the
authors demand on the need to know whether who of the sister married forcing her to add the
book. The second book illustrated how Jo married Laurie with Alcott herself remaining
unmarried all her life hence forcing her to write the sequel by departing from the autobiography
by writing may feel straight up fiction. However, without her personal experiences the other part
of the novel may feel less realistic. Little Women has been largely popular since the initial
publication for over 140 years where it largely appealed to readers young and old, male and female
(Myerson). This was based on the major trend of the novel as based on the lifelong lovers who are
female. The novel has been transformed into

Auguste Rodin s Gates Of Hell
Essay 2: An Analysis of Figural Movement and Non Textual Depictions of Dante Alighieri s The
Divine Comedy in the Sculptural Motivations of Auguste Rodin s Gates of Hell.
The primary motivation for Auguste Rodin s Gates of Hell are based on the desire to interpret
Dante Alighieri s The Divine Comedy through amore individual response to the text. Rodin
avoided a traditional interpretation of Dante s narrative by creating his own form of chaotic view
of hell through a modern 19th century perspective. During this the middle to late 19th century,
Rodin sought shift the focus away from literary interpretations of art, which had become the
dominant form of interpretation of classical themes in France. The Gates of Hell was to avoid
these text based views of Dante s work as a motivation for Rodin s commission for the doors as an
early form of modernity in sculpture:

In this compositional form, the chaos of human forms seen suffering and writhing in hell are one
way in which Rodin deviated from the text that he was initially supposed to follow from the
Divine Comedy. Rodin, therefore , was motivated by a more active and personal view of the chaos
of hell, which was individualistically interpretative and went against traditional forms of literary
interpretation in French classical art. The chaos of the human forms depicted on the gates of hell
define the individualism of the sculptor s point of view, which sought to remove the sickly aspects
of literary culture that was so dominant in French artistic culture. Rodin sought to move away from
these sometimes gaudy expressions of literary heroism to a more realistic, chaotic, and despairing

Essay On Spanking
Parents have the privilege and responsibility of shaping their child s behavior in a positive
direction. To help teach children to be responsible and less destructive, most parents use spanking
as a way to correct the child. Parents who oppose spanking suppose that spankings can lead to
physical abuse. Many parents believe that they should not discipline their children by spanking;
however, spanking for disciplinary measure is a necessary teachable moment for children.
Corporal punishment is using physical pain in response to behavior that has been deemed
inappropriate. The AAP defines spanking as striking a child with an open hand on the buttocks or
extremities with the intention of modifying behavior without causing physical injury (Jones ... Show

They will accept their punishment and comply in a short amount of time ( 10 Prevailing Pros...
1 2). A child will respect authority when they know every wrongdoing gets some kind of
physical consequence, and the child will not repeat bad behaviors by reinforcement (1). A
mother remembers fearing the paddle, which she says is a good thing. When the crime meets the
punishment, she feels that there would be fewer bad children if more parents did spank. In one
year, ninety four percent of three and four year olds have been spanked. Seventy four percent of
mothers think spanking is alright for kids one to three (O Callaghan 1). Compared to non parents,
parents view physical punishment as more common than people without children (Marcus 2 3).
Majority of the population thinks that spanking is barbaric basing it off of abuses rather than the
biblical model. Many parents who think that way have problems at home including conflicts all
the time, loss of control, and no way to fix the problems. Since opposers buy into the stereotypical
model of spanking where out of control parents and religious extremists beat children instead of
disciplining them, they reject the entire idea. Because parents do not know how to spank, they
think spanking should not be done at all (Ingram 3), but The Bible never implies that the rod of
discipline should be violent

Dante s Work
Dante s work, in all its complexity and its value, was a contemporary landmark even only if we
consider the admiration which Boccaccio sent to him; over the centuries, from Chaucer and
Chateaubriand, to Miguel de Unamuno, all the great minds have turned to the model represented
by Dante. Although Vita Nuova it is widely known as the most noble manifesto of Italian poetry
(Hede, p.34), and the most perfect expression of the sweet new style, a mostly candid and
ingГ©nue story of Dante s love for the Florentine Beatrice Portinari, Dante s name became
synonymous with The Divine Comedy.

How did Dante thought to express this imaginary reality, in such a concrete appearance?
It should be added before giving an answer to this question that the main purpose of the author
was not necessarily to create a work of art, which the audience would simply admire. He wanted
to provide first and foremost a teaching tool, to make us reading his book to think of ourselves
and maybe to place ourselves exactly where we think we deserve.
Transposing us in those situations, trying to correct our lives, we can avoid the infernal circles.
Dante is not only the writer who thinks that structure, but also the character that passes through
Hell (Raffa, 11). He got there because at one point in his life he got lost.
Sins are punished by equivalent rules (which in Italian were called the Legge del contrapasso ).
Each type of sin is punished in an equivalent manner. For example the lustful, those who cheated
in love, have betrayed their pair, will fly as birds and will be struck by rocks, without any second
of rest. What was their fault in life? They did not stuck with their partners, but have wandered in
search of other love affairs, and they struggled to find new carnal pleasures.
Now they are not allowed any time off and rest; the

Jules Gabriel Verne s The Mysterious Island
The Mysterious Island
The novel, The Mysterious Island, was written by legendary French 19th Century author, Jules
Gabriel Verne (1828 1905). Verne is widely considered to be the Father of science fiction writings
/novels, often unintentionally predicting future technologies such as submarines, missiles, rocket
ships, etc. He is also known for his many works, for example, Journey to the Center of the Earth,
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in 80 Days and, the subject of this
book report, The Mysterious Island. I chose this book, not only because it interested me, but
because I had started to read it a few years ago but never got the chance to finish it and it was
collecting dust and so I thought I should use this opportunity to read it. Some interesting facts
about the novel include that I managed to find are that in the original French version of the book,
some of the main characters are given slightly different names: GГ©dГ©on Spillet,
Nabuchodonosor (Nab) and Harbert Brown as opposed to Gideon Spilett, Neb and Herbert Brown.
Furthermore, there some date/time discrepancies, for example, the story takes place after the
American Civil War (between 1861 and 1865) and Captain Nemo is seen to have died within this
time period, while in the book, Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea, which takes place 1867
and 1868, Nemo is still alive. Other things to note is that there have been about 11 different film
and television adaptations made based on the

Warfare In The Middle Ages
In the Middle Ages, which sprouted from the sacking of Rome by Germanic tribes, society became
more isolated and survivalism based, with merely living taking precedent over education and social
activity. This was truly a dark age, with Christianity providing the only hope during this feudalistic
and tumultuous time period. Throughout this time period, the clergy gained more and more power,
eventually sparking the Crusades. While they failed, they did open trade routes, bringing a better
economy to the Europeans. Also, governments eventually evolved, bringing in the Parliament, a
legislative group of knights, bishops, and lords. Finally, near the end of the Middle Ages, the black
death took about one third of the population of Europe, bringing in economic and social reforms.
Then, the Hundred Years War took place, marking the end of the Age of Faith.
The Middle Ages sprouted from several Germanic tribes plundering and sacking Rome due to the
Huns taking over their homelands, and other feuds between Roman leaders and the Germanic
representatives. After Rome s fall, certain tribes such as the Franks and ... Show more content on

the English out, and became a military leader herself, winning stunning victories across France.
She also helped Charles VII claim the throne, in 1429. In 1430 1431, the Burgundians captured and
killed her, burning her at the stake for witchcraft. This marked the near end of the war, which
concluded both itself and the Middle Ages in 1453. Nationalism increased in both England and
France, and monarchies gained prestige due to the

Analysis Of Nights Below Station Street
Nights Below Station Street
Everyone can relate to the most common universal truths. The universal truths everyone can relate
to are family problems, dealing with a teenager, alcoholism, and unemployment. These universal
truths can have really bad effects on people such as isolating oneself from family or not wanting to
do anything with a specific person in the family. Universal truths can also have good effects such as
being in an abusive relationship and eventually getting out of it and starting fresh. David Adams
Richards portrays these universal truths in his novel, Nights Below Station Street, through the use
of simple language, use of flashbacks for each character and his personal connection to the novel
and its character, Joe. Firstly, David A. Richards uses a simple language in his novel, Nights
Below Station Street, for the better understanding of the reader. Richards uses general words and
avoids the use of big words that a certain reader, such as an ESL student might not know the
meaning of. Richards also includes a detailed description of everyday activities in his writing. Some
readers might find the detailed description of everyday activities incredibly useful when it comes to
the character s development. The reader may find important characteristics of the protagonist s
personality due to the detailed description. (Quora, Aman Anand). Richards does not specifically
states the universal truths but gets them across through the use of general words and detailed
description. In the novel, Richards states, She (Adele) often criticized her mother for being foolish
enough to live with him (Joe). It seemed to her that if her mother wanted to be a fool now, and
wanted to keep kids for other people this to Adele was an insult (Richards 32 33). This quote lets
readers know that Adele has problems with her mother and does not like the fact that her mom
lives with Joe, her father. Adele finds her mom s job to earn for the family embarrassing as she
thinks its an insult to her. When teenagers do not show consideration for other people, it is not that
they want to humiliate or spite them; it is because other people simply are no relevance in their
world. They get caught up in their own self centeredness

Flood Myths Essay examples
Flood Myths
Myths from many different cultures seem to tell the same story. Themes from Babylonian myth
can be seen in Egyptian stories; elements of Christian theology are evident in some ancient
Chinese texts, and so on. How is this possible? How can cultures that have had little physical
contact present us with such analogous narratives? These questions grow more perplexing when
time is considered. Many of these tales are not only from separate corners of the earth, but also
seem to have been written in vastly disparate time periods. This being said, it is still a fact that
these cultures do rely on a number of shared stories. The hero exists universally; and often shares a
number of elements across cultural boundaries. All ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yahweh looks down upon the men and women he has created and is saddened by their lack of
values. He decides to rid the earth of this corrupt age and begin anew. Both versions then have a god
choosing to save one man. The Babylonian version tells us of Utnapishtim. He is warned of Enlil
s plan by Ea, through a dream, and is instructed to build a great boat. Noah was the only man on
earth still in Yahweh s favor. So he came to Noah and told him to also build a boat.
The men are then instructed to take with them certain people, animals and possessions. Ea tells
Utnapishtim to bring with him family and kin, gold, beasts, both wild and tame, and craftsmen.
Noah is advised to take only his family and a pair of each of the earth s animals onto his boat. The
items each man is directed to take says a great deal about the culture associated with each story.
The Christian world is focused on piety and stresses the importance of denying oneself material
wealth. Noah is not told to bring with him any worldly possessions unlike Utnapishtim who is told
to take gold. Utnapishtim is also told to bring craftsmen, which emphasizes the important role they
played in Babylonian culture.
As the flood begins each man is warned that it will soon be time to board his boat. However, the
amount of time each man is given to prepare varies considerably between the two stories. Noah is
given seven days to load all of the animals onto the ark, while Shamash comes to Utnapishtim and

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Ssdm
SSADM is an analysis and design methodology that follows a structural tactic for Implementation
of a system. In the beginning of 80th of the past century this method was developed for
government of Great Britain. In 1993 it was accepted as the national standard of Great Britain and
as a reason the SSADM usage is expedient for those who work with governmental organizations and
this method is a standard for these organizations.
Unlike the conventional approach SSADM is DATA driven and data modeling begins very early in
the development of Information system. . SSADM may also represent the document led approach
to system design, and can be contrasts with Rapid Application Development Method such as

Divine Command Theory On Abortion
The theological approach to understanding morality is best described with the Divine Command
Theory. According to Thiroux and Krasemann (2006), Divine Command Theory states that morality
is based not upon the consequences of actions or rules, nor upon self interest or other interestedness,
but rather upon something higher than these mere mundane events of the imperfect human or
natural worlds. In the context of pro life; morally speaking, it suggests that human life is a gift
from a higher power God. Additionally, it suggests that God defines human life taking on varying
forms ranging from that of an adult all the way to that consisting of a baby in the womb. Aligning
with the principles detailed in the Divine Command Theory, moral and ethical guidance to the child
barer would suggest that regardless of the severe health complications that would impact the overall
health of the unborn child, should the women successfully carry to term, it would be morally
irresponsible to terminate the pregnancy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

legislative requirements which vary from state to state along with the specific stages of pregnancy

What Does Something Mean To You Essay
In society, we tend to anticipate one s possibilities to the greatest extent. As Henry David Thoreau
stated, One is not born into the world to do everything, but to do something. I believe my
something is to impact my community by helping those who are either in need of help, or who are
in quest for clarification.
This journey will not be a easy task, but I am determined with ambition and dedication to helping
those who seek guidance. The smallest gestures can have the most significant influence on
someone s life whether it means helping a student with their homework, or gathering ideas for a
group project. The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don t wait for
good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the
world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope, as stated by our President. Acknowledging the

Morality In Parks And Recreation
Modern day television is entertaining, thrilling, mysterious, and comical. However, morality
forgiveness, honesty, loyalty, patience, kindness is rarely ever considered in any storyline. Whether
the audience is composed of children, teenagers, or adults, most television shows today discuss
highly inappropriate topics. Consequently, there are a few films and TV shows that bring morality
and virtue to the table. Parks and Recreation, Fuller House, Star Trek, and Last Man Standing are
all generally clean, PG rated TV shows that attract teenage audiences. Parks and Recreation is a

The Myths Of Global Warming
Global Warming; A Myth
One in every four Americans is skeptical about global warming, the other seventy five percent

This theory is a myth. What many mistake for global warming is simply the Earth s natural cycle
that includes the poles shifting, the increase and decrease of precipitation, and the changes in
climate.

Summary Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find By O Connor
In the short story A Good Man is Hard to Find, by O Connor, we are told of the story of a family
just about to leave for a trip to Florida. The character we are viewing this story through is the
grandmother of the family, mother to the father. The grandmother protested the trip because of
supposed bandits that were also headed to Florida, and because she wanted to instead see
connections in Tennessee. After ignoring her complaints the familybegan their trip to Florida. On
the way the grandmother was able to talk her son into a slight detour in order for her to see an old
plantation she had visited in her youth. Along the old path to this house the grandmother realized
she was mistaken about the plantation and through use of her cat accidently... Show more content on

For example the father s and mother s flaw was the decision to travel, unarmed and unprotected
when a known outlaw was traveling nearby. Another was the grandmother s mistaken location of
this plantation, caused by her longing to see the places of her past. The grandmother selfishness in
diverting the trip, then only pleading for her life shows that humans however good their intentions,
can be self serving and egocentric. The Misfit portrayed the very worst of human nature his actions
and thoughts. Even though The Misfit was a deranged killer who believed the only meaningful and
pleasurable act in life was meanness towards others. Both the son and daughter in this story were
rude, obnoxious, and disobedient children. Through their actions the children show that humans,
even as children, can be perverse and obstreperous in nature. The mother s character shows how
obscure and unimportant one can let themselves become. This portrays the submissive behavior
that humans can have, and how it can take over one s life. The way that the mother so coolly
accepts her fate, and even thanks the man that is going to kill her and her children, shows the

Modern Dance Pioneers
When it comes to dance there are many styles such as ballet, jazz, and lyrical, but the one that
stands out is modern. When it comes to modern dance, there are many pioneers such as Alvin Ailey,
Martha Graham, Lester Horton, and Isadora Duncan. The two that interest me the most are Isadora
Duncan and Alvin Ailey. Isadora Duncan was born on May 26, 1877 as Angela Duncan in San
Francisco, California. Her mother was Dora, and her father was Joseph Duncan, who left the
family when Isadora was still young. Her family then moved to Oakland where Isadora and her
sister taught dance classes to help earn money for the family. Isadora was the youngest of four
children and as a child and her siblings were Augustin, Raymond, and Elizabeth Duncan. She took

For this assignment I ve decided to do a research on my MacBook Pro. There are two parties to
the warranty. One party is the consumer and the other party is Apple themselves. Whenever the
consumer buys the product, that s when the warranty activates. From that day on, the consumer
has one year to make claims that the warranty covers. After doing research online, I couldn t

UCC is not a federal law, so it really depends on the states that enforce these law. If let s say for

It was a hundred dollar bill.(Ellison 68).
This symbolizes how Norton is exploiting Trueblood. It is a protest against the exploitation of the
worker which is a very communist idea. In order to almost live the experience of perhaps
committing incest against his own daughter, Norton exploits Trueblood. In communist ideology,
Norton would perhaps embody the evil, corrupt capitalist taking advantage of the working class.
However, Norton is not the total capitalist that he perhaps embodies. After Ivan drops him off at
his rooms on the campus, Norton defends the narrator against Dr. Bledsoe s attacks. Dr. Bledsoe,
however, has his own designs, and even though he may appear as a friend of the worker, Bledsoe
is the true capitalist robber baron.
But I ve made my place in it and I ll have every Negro in the country hanging on tree limbs if it
means staying where I am. (Ellison 141). Bledsoe states that he will not stop at anything to assert
his own supremacy, even if it means stomping on his own race and setting back his people s
cause for ages. He believes himself to be the manifest of all authority and considers himself
supreme over everyone. Even though Bledsoe appears at first to be a servile man, he is deep inside

Troilus and Hamlet have much in common. Both have represented the quintessential tragic heroes
of two literary periods. Both lovers, Troilus and Hamlet lose what they love despite their earth

this is no secret both die. But somewhere on that mortal coil on which they are both strung, they

Now, Hamlet comprehends the arbitrary nature of power that would send an army against a
minuscule plot of ground. He understands good and evil and the machiavellian wheels that grease
the way to the throne as they are, a process in which he is complicit. Hamlet, a once simple prince,
is sick at heart.
An inextricable belief in fate centers this bitter epistemological com Г«ment. In Hamlet s world,
birth alone is a telling reason and excuse for tainted character (1.4.24 26, 1.5.91). But heaven
takes part as well; there s a special providence in the fall of a sparrow (5.2.230 231). Taken
together, this realization of inequity and the apparently long understood mechanism of biological
predestination, are staggering to Horatio s sweet prince. If such biological predestination is true,
then how should Hamlet understand the base actions of his family members and of himself?
Either his family are impostors to nobility or this idea of predestination is faulty. The play gives
ample evidence of a prince who has long dallied in philosophy and seldom lived in the world.
Indeed, the transparent nonsense that a person may not exceed his birth is indicative of this. Like
Joyce s Stephen Dedalus, Hamlet glamorizes death through his sable clothes. Claudius?and
Gertrude s advice is honest, sincere, and worldly: death is the most commonplace of occurrences:
accept it and nmove on. When the murder is revealed, progression

Emily Dickinson Themes
Emily Dickinson was one of the greatest American poets. She wrote through the entirety of her
adult life, but she only saw less than a dozen of them published. Dickinson never knew the impact
of her poems on society. With over 2,000 poems total, no one could have predicted that Emily
Dickinson s themes would still be as pertinent today as they were in the late nineteenth century.
Themes such as death, religion, life, and loneliness are some of the most common across her
works. Of her 2,000 or more poems, about 600 are on the subject of death. The majority of
Dickinson s life was consumed by death (LaBlanc 63). Due to frequent confrontations with the
dead and dying, Dickinson began to view death as a friendly creature and often personified it. It
was not uncommon for a single poem to contain multiple themes, sometimes pairing love and
death ( Because I Could Not Stop For Death 3). As for the friendliness of death, Dickinson
comforted the living, giving advice on coping with a loss. Poems started with a death and, by the

Analysis OfOur Oceans Are Turning Into Plastic, Are You,...
Plastic isn t known to be a substance made for consumption, but you may be eating it every day.
In Our Oceans Are Turning into Plastic...Are You? the author Susan Casey is informing us how
bad plastic is polluting our oceans. Susan Casey is the author of a New York Times best seller,
The Devils Teeth , helped publish Into Thin Air and The Perfect Storm, and is the editor and chief
of Oprah Winfrey s Magazine O . She argues that these pollutants are doing damage in multiple
facets, such as affecting food chains, disrupts organism reproduction, and directly cause the things
we consume to be harmful to us. The author found many creative ways to appeal to all three
persuasive appeals which are Logos, Pathos, and Ethos. Although the article was great at the end
she added things that weren t needed and seemed to just be there as filler. To set up the stage for
her credibility she tells a short story of the person who she gets most of her information from.
The person s name is Charles Moore he was a boat captain who decided to take a different route
that he usually takes, and he found a huge area of circling garbage in the ocean and this led to
him changing occupations and creating Marine Research Foundation. She further explains his
credentials and those who work for his foundations credibility. Her extensive explanation of
Moore and what people who work for him is an effective form of Ethos. Although the beginning
may seem long and stretched out longer than it had to be its not, she had to approach this topic
this way because she is an accomplished writer but not in this field so she with this specific
topic isn t a credible source, so she found one. Along with Ethos she threw both Pathos and
Logos back to back when she tells us how seeing dead birds wash ashore is more prevalent than
is used to be, discussing pictures of our trash cutting up animals, then showing a picture of a turtle
who is deformed because of a plastic ring. After this she has a chart that shows how much plastic
production has increased over the years and another one that shows only 3% of plastic is recycled.
That was an effective choice of timing and placement because most people when they see graphs

Voluntary Vs Involuntary Action
Non voluntary and involuntary actions differ by the presence of compulsion and ignorance
according to The Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle. Moments of action that are governed by
compelling and threatening situations coupled with an ignorant state of mind forcibly causes one

the individual must be made aware of their wicked act. Non voluntary actions portray the same
traits except, the individual does not recognize the wickedness of his actions after the fact and

To be cognizant and to act in total ignorance is to be wicked, as Aristotle proclaims every wicked
man is ignorant (III.I.1110b 28). However, it is mentioned that ignorant behaviours (as they are
deemed involuntary) are excusable, does this give appropriate reason for the wicked to be
pardoned? An alternative interpretation is that perhaps Aristotle means to exemplify that ignorance
in its particulars of actions are to be overlooked if the end goal was attempting to seek good. Due to
the fact that all human actions ultimately aim towards good. It is solely the presence of ignorance
that inhibits one from acting with complete merit, as ignorance is found only within the particulars
of a circumstance. Particulars such as, the circumstances of the action and the objects with which
it is concerned .(III.I 1111a 1) Though it is not easy to weigh a man s pardon upon dependant
particulars, one must analyze the case and value which particulars merit a pardon. Furthermore, as
the reader, I struggle to comprehend whether a pardon is dependant upon the circumstantial objects
or rather circumstances of the action and its end . (III.2 111a 18 19) Moreover, if a wicked man
seeks good, but his actions convey otherwise, ought he be pardoned for the misinterpretation of his
means to obtain his end goal that is of good? Aristotle analyzes topics relative to action, ignorance
and compulsion; certain explanations are enlightening while

Howard Roark And Egoism
Thematical diversity of the Howard Roark s architectural style expresses his world view. Self
sufficiency of man s spirit (608), genius and independency of one s self are ideals forming the
basis for his views. Such views have always been strived after by each person because they are
admirable and right. But on no account, on average, can they be associated with egoism. So why
does Howard Roark call them egoism? Egoism as an ethical category has an extensive contextual
interpretation. Definition of the term provides a fertile ground for a distortion of its meaning. The
custodian of the masses moral health engrains false rendering reshaping convictions of the
majority. Results are visible in Waidler s exclamation and Howard Roark s response... Show more

The trusted medium, Roark, has natural rights to praise his idea, as he is one of the men who took
first steps down new roads armed with nothing but their own vision (679). The essence of Roark
s views is independence of man s ego and mind free from the conformity. It is the key not only to
mental harmony but also to further development of society, as the moving force is the creative
faculty which is not selfless... self motivated, self generated (680). While the main criterion of
egoism is personal worth, mental capabilities, society will be sorted out from imitators who
copied imitations (46). The idea will be followed by the brainpower in varying degrees. Results
will vary from the appearance of the beginnings of the self respect to the forming of self sufficient
man s spirit. While it will be turned into reality in the absolute form among the creative minority ,
far calmer forms will appear among the mediocre people. Definitely, qualitative changes are on the
way. Due to the individualists who fight for their truth the Wynand Building will not be the last

College Vs. High School
Welcome to college! Congratulations on making it this far! Now the time comes to ramp up the
ante! No such program as stepping up to college exists as it does for for high school. Oh wait! It
s called high school. Move it or lose it now, your future rests on your shoulders. High school
teachers just handed you your future based on the way you schooled, and collegeprofessors tell you
to figure it out. College trips up hundreds of students a year, refrain from letting yourself become
one of them. Your class strategies must improve as will your study habits and reading habits to
fulfill new demands of college classes and avoid sliding into the pitfalls of doom. Umpteen
million utilities and tricks to remember when it comes to college classes begin to surface if you
google college vs. high school. Sever Kvigne, a student at UWGB, tells us our first point
regarding classes. Students too often skip class, Kviane says, and wind up failing (9/4/15).
Attending class gleams success, regardless how simple catching back up by finding a friend and
their notes may seem. Overthinking it, fabricating excuses, and debating reveal a descent into the
pits; just go. You will ameliorate learning since your brain stores what you hear and correlates that
to the image of your notes; the process of active learning. Honestly, where else can you learn the
material this effectively? With notetaking in mind, we explore what Rachael, Daigle, and Rachael,

Business Management Reflection
Throughout our Business Management course I have learned an abundant amount of relevant
information. The content ranged from topics as basic as a company s mission statement, to more
complex managerial responsibilities. While all the information was important, there were three
chapters that I found to be particularly beneficial. Chapter 4 Managing Ethics and Social
Responsibility, Chapter 5 Planning and Goal Setting and Chapter 8 Managing Change and
Innovation contained information that pertained to topics I find most important. I find that ethics,
planning and obtaining goals, and dealing with change in a work environment are the most
important things to know in any business
In chapter 4 of Understanding Management, the text defines ethics as the code of moral principles
and values that governs the behaviors of a person or group with respect to what is right or wrong.
Although I knew the defining characteristics of ethics prior to the course reading, I did not know
that moral development has three distinct stages: preconventional, conventional, and
postconventional. In the preconventional stage of moral development, people act in self interest.
This stage is most common in children up to the age of nine. People in this stage are only obedient
because they wish to avoid punishment. However, in the conventional stage; a person can live up to
social expectations and uphold the law. Most managers function in the conventional stage of moral
development. It is not until the

Use Of Technology And Social Media
The use of technology and social media makes our life a lot easier. Social media and technology
play a huge role in our everyday life and friendship. In today s world, people, mostly teenagers
use social media and technology every day to communicate and interact with others. Technology
gives us an opportunity to connect with anybody we want from anywhere we are, saving us time.
According to Daily News 84 percent of people worldwide say they couldn t go a single day without
their mobile devicein their hand. That means almost everybody uses their phone in order to
communicate and stay updated. I use my phone every single day and I cannot imagine living my
life without a smartphone. I go on social media websites every day to connect with friends and see
what they are doing. It is the fastest way to interact with friends and I love technologyfor that. A
couple decades ago people didn t have good communicationdevices therefore it was much harder
for them to connect with each other. Technology makes it much more convenient and easy for us
to use, saving us a lot of time. Having technology makes our life easier and at the same time
virtual. It is very convenient and just normal for our society to use it everyday. In my opinion
modern technology provides more options and opportunities to connect with our friends. I really
don t think that technology and social media ruin our friendships like most people would say. It all
depends on how you use it. Technology and Social media

Essay on Theorising Heterosexism for Social Work Education
In the United States and many other countries throughout the world, societal structures have been
created to place some in a position of power and others into oppressed positions. These systems
often remain unchallenged and force the oppressed into silence for fear of becoming outcasts.
These systems affect everyone and can even go as far as making the oppressed internally believe
that they are supposed to stay in their second class state. One of these many systems is
heterosexism. This paper will cover what heterosexism is, the effects of heterosexism, how
heterosexism relates to other forms of oppression, and what can be done to stop heterosexism from
being perpetuated.
Julie Fish (2008) defines heterosexism, in her article, as the ... Show more content on

Fish (2008) states some of these assumptions such as same sex couples cannot provide the
appropriate gender role models, same sex parents will raise their children to be gay, and children
will be bullied because they have parents who are both of the same gender.
Brennan, Craig, and Thompson (2012) state in their study that there is a link between gay and
bisexual men s obsession with thinness and muscularity and internalized homophobia. In their study
they linked gay and bisexual men to depression, eating disorders, and internalized homophobia.
Their experiment was based around the theory that people adopt certain characteristics to have
access to privileges in a society and be accepted by the dominant group. Brennan et al. s (2012)
results showed that of the men who showed higher levels of internalized homophobia they also
exhibited higher drives for muscularity. This relates to heterosexism because gay and bisexual men
are not considered the norm. This is why many gay and bisexual men have this obsession over
being thin and muscular, partly because of internalized homophobia. This stems from an
overcompensation act to try and be more masculine in an attempt to balance out their sexual
orientation. It relates back to the idea of acceptance. They are consciously or unconsciously
rationalizing that this will make them more accepted whether it is true or not.
Olivia Murray (2011) talks about the need for more

Type 1 Vs Type 2 Supernova
A supernova is a marvelous thing that happens in space, and scientists are trying to use these
explosions of stars to learn more about our expanding galaxy with the debris and elements that
explode from the supernova, the largest explosion in space which can outshine many galaxies.
Since the stars is a large distance away, when the supernovadoes happen, it would have actually
happened a couple hundred years ago, because the light takes many years to reach our eyes. A
supernova can happen in two different ways, known by a Type 1 supernova and a Type 2 supernova.
The first way a supernova happens is in a binary solar system, meaning that there re two stars
orbiting around the same point. One of the stars, which is a carbon oxygen white dwarf,

The Lion In Winter Comparative Essay
The case of Becket and The Lion in Winter is a unique one within cinema. Even though they are
technically not made by the same people, these two films share many characters, including the
lead played by Peter O Toole. They both draw on the history behind Henry II and yet differ from
both the actual history and each other. But why did these films make changes, and what do they
say about both the craft of film and the time that they came from? By examining the characters
portrayals and the differences within, one sees that the historical accuracy provides a basis for
the films to branch off into stronger narratives and cultural reflection. Historical accuracy (or the
lack thereof) is often the first criticism against Hollywood period pieces. Yet, for the characters
in these films, the historical sources themselves must be taken with a grain of salt in terms of
their accuracy, especially in regards to Henry II. Peter of Blois describes Henry very favorably,
saying no one is more cunning in their counsel, more fiery in speech, more secure in the midst of
dangers, cautious in fortune, or constant in adversity, and then goes on to say that he believes
that the king was in no way guilty of Becket s death. However, in the text by Gervais of
Canterbury, Henry is described as being an adversary to Becket and violently persecuting those
who supported him. The root of this likely comes down to Peter being one of the patrons of Henry
and Gervais being a monk who knew Becket,

A third generation Chicana, she knew from a very young age that she wanted to make art. Over the years she s created plenty of it. Lopez has produced films, painted, done printmaking, and educated others. Yolanda struggled early, repeating 1st grade more than once due to the fact that she did not speak English. Despite these struggles, she felt a connection to art in her classrooms, and began using whatever she could get her hands on to make it. After high school, LГіpez relocated to San Francisco and attended San Francisco State University. While there, she saw many black and chicano students assert and involve themselves in politics, and was motivated to join school groups run by students. These groups focused on issues such as minority scholarships and ethnic studies programs, raising awareness and focusing on advancement and equality. She eventually left the University without graduating and moved to the Mission district, where she became involved in the Bay Area Chicano Art Movement. • 3. The Real Slumdog s Documentary a. Globalization/pg. 29: The growing interconnections among nations due to the expansion of capitalism The Real Slumdog s documentary was very interesting and eye opening. The amount of businesses that are run in the one square mile area of Dharavi affect the entire capitalism of the world. Look at it this way, the Slumdog s as they re called make crappy money to make some very intricate products. These products will be shipped from Mumbai to the rest of the world eventually. As the products are marked up by middle men, the money does not filter its way back to the Dharavi slum. Thus, the products might be ten dollars in a store, but initially the slum workers get paid barely anything and do not get to see the profit that they could. These people work to survive. Mumbai is a very intricate and bustling city, and has a large amount of money and products moved through it each day. In the inner city though, it is not as cheap to make the products. There also are not the massive amounts of laborers that are found in Dharavi. Moving away from product production we can look at the dumps of Dharavi. A large amount of the trash from the inner city is sent to the slum to be processed. The workers that sort through the trash are called rag pickers. The rag pickers make very little money for what they do, but the work that they do is very important. They separate the waste into different categories to be processed and recycled accordingly. They separate the metals from plastics, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Common Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops Truncatus) are probably the most popular species of dolphins around. Coming under the order of Cetecea and the family of Delphinidae, the bottlenose dolphins are closely related to whales and are highly intelligent creatures (source 7). They are widely distributed around the world in the deep tropical and sub tropical seas as well as other warm regions. For this reason, there is no recorded global estimate of the number of Bottlenose Dolphins in this world. Captured animal s natural hunting and survival instincts grow dull after living the lax life in a tank. Upon being released back into the wild, they are unable to fend for themselves and are quickly hunted by predators. Also, experience has proven that the spectators of educational animal shows come away with little thought for the welfare of the animals and more for other exciting things like fun rides, etc. Spectators mostly go to shows not for the education but for the entertainment of watching different and sometimes weird animals perform. Besides, many do not consider the mental distress that plagues the dolphins that are suddenly brought into captivity to be studied. Again referring to source 1 and 6, the animals may most likely not be able to adept well and this may increase their aggression towards their tank mates as well as show other signs of obvious mental suffering. What s more, it is obviously not easy to care for these animals, not to mention costly. Safaris and parks fork out billions a year for the maintenance and care of their animals. Looking at SeaWorld s impressive facilities as an example, imagine the cost for designing, building and then maintaining the aquariums, plumbing, dietary needs, etc of the animals. • 5. Little Women By Louisa Alcott Little Women by Louisa Alcott Little Women can be viewed as a classic book or girl s book. It was written after the Civil War after the author received endless demand from the young female readers. Initially they were published as two books where Chapters 1 to 23 where issues back in 1868 under Little Women title, however, after becoming a highly sensational success, Chapters 24 to 47 were published in 1869 under the title Good Wives Louisa (1869). Louisa May Alcotts personal life is demonstrated in the first book hence acting as a form of semiautobiographical where it largely reflects on the experiences as she grows up with her sisters in New England. She was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1832 (Reisen). Thus, the book reflects her personal live with the authors demand on the need to know whether who of the sister married forcing her to add the book. The second book illustrated how Jo married Laurie with Alcott herself remaining unmarried all her life hence forcing her to write the sequel by departing from the autobiography by writing may feel straight up fiction. However, without her personal experiences the other part of the novel may feel less realistic. Little Women has been largely popular since the initial publication for over 140 years where it largely appealed to readers young and old, male and female (Myerson). Auguste Rodin s Gates Of Hell Essay 2: An Analysis of Figural Movement and Non Textual Depictions of Dante Alighieri s The Divine Comedy in the Sculptural Motivations of Auguste Rodin s Gates of Hell. The primary motivation for Auguste Rodin s Gates of Hell are based on the desire to interpret Dante Alighieri s The Divine Comedy through amore individual response to the text. Rodin avoided a traditional interpretation of Dante s narrative by creating his own form of chaotic view of hell through a modern 19th century perspective. During this the middle to late 19th century, Rodin sought shift the focus away from literary interpretations of art, which had become the dominant form of interpretation of classical themes in France. The Gates of Hell was to avoid these text based views of Dante s work as a motivation for Rodin s commission for the doors as an early form of modernity in sculpture: Rodin s sculpture, for all its affinity to great literature from Dante to Baudelaire, has nothing ... To help teach children to be responsible and less destructive, most parents use spanking as a way to correct the child. Parents who oppose spanking suppose that spankings can lead to physical abuse. Many parents believe that they should not discipline their children by spanking; however, spanking for disciplinary measure is a necessary teachable moment for children. Corporal punishment is using physical pain in response to behavior that has been deemed inappropriate. A child will respect authority when they know every wrongdoing gets some kind of physical consequence, and the child will not repeat bad behaviors by reinforcement (1). A mother remembers fearing the paddle, which she says is a good thing. When the crime meets the punishment, she feels that there would be fewer bad children if more parents did spank. In one year, ninety four percent of three and four year olds have been spanked. Seventy four percent of mothers think spanking is alright for kids one to three (O Callaghan 1). Compared to non parents, parents view physical punishment as more common than people without children (Marcus 2 3). Majority of the population thinks that spanking is barbaric basing it off of abuses rather than the biblical model. Many parents who think that way have problems at home including conflicts all the time, loss of control, and no way to fix the problems. Since opposers buy into the stereotypical model of spanking where out of control parents and religious extremists beat children instead of disciplining them, they reject the entire idea. Because parents do not know how to spank, they think spanking should not be done at all (Ingram 3), but The Bible never implies that the rod of discipline should be violent ... Although Vita Nuova it is widely known as the most noble manifesto of Italian poetry (Hede, p.34), and the most perfect expression of the sweet new style, a mostly candid and ingГ©nue story of Dante s love for the Florentine Beatrice Portinari, Dante s name became synonymous with The Divine Comedy. It should be added before giving an answer to this question that the main purpose of the author was not necessarily to create a work of art, which the audience would simply admire. He wanted to provide first and foremost a teaching tool, to make us reading his book to think of ourselves and maybe to place ourselves exactly where we think we deserve. Transposing us in those situations, trying to correct our lives, we can avoid the infernal circles. Dante is not only the writer who thinks that structure, but also the character that passes through Hell (Raffa, 11). He got there because at one point in his life he got lost. Furthermore, there some date/time discrepancies, for example, the story takes place after the American Civil War (between 1861 and 1865) and Captain Nemo is seen to have died within this time period, while in the book, Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea, which takes place 1867 and 1868, Nemo is still alive. • 10. Warfare In The Middle Ages In the Middle Ages, which sprouted from the sacking of Rome by Germanic tribes, society became more isolated and survivalism based, with merely living taking precedent over education and social activity. This was truly a dark age, with Christianity providing the only hope during this feudalistic and tumultuous time period. Throughout this time period, the clergy gained more and more power, eventually sparking the Crusades. While they failed, they did open trade routes, bringing a better economy to the Europeans. Also, governments eventually evolved, bringing in the Parliament, a legislative group of knights, bishops, and lords. Finally, near the end of the Middle Ages, the black death took about one third of the population of Europe, bringing in economic and social reforms. Then, the Hundred Years War took place, marking the end of the Age of Faith. • 11. Analysis Of Nights Below Station Street Nights Below Station Street Everyone can relate to the most common universal truths. The universal truths everyone can relate to are family problems, dealing with a teenager, alcoholism, and unemployment. These universal truths can have really bad effects on people such as isolating oneself from family or not wanting to do anything with a specific person in the family. Universal truths can also have good effects such as being in an abusive relationship and eventually getting out of it and starting fresh. David Adams Richards portrays these universal truths in his novel, Nights Below Station Street, through the use of simple language, use of flashbacks for each character and his personal connection to the novel and its character, Joe. Firstly, David A. Richards uses a simple language in his novel, Nights Below Station Street, for the better understanding of the reader. Richards uses general words and avoids the use of big words that a certain reader, such as an ESL student might not know the meaning of. Richards also includes a detailed description of everyday activities in his writing. Some readers might find the detailed description of everyday activities incredibly useful when it comes to the character s development. The reader may find important characteristics of the protagonist s personality due to the detailed description. (Quora, Aman Anand). Richards does not specifically states the universal truths but gets them across through the use of general words and detailed description. In the novel, Richards states, She (Adele) often criticized her mother for being foolish enough to live with him (Joe). It seemed to her that if her mother wanted to be a fool now, and wanted to keep kids for other people this to Adele was an insult (Richards 32 33). This quote lets readers know that Adele has problems with her mother and does not like the fact that her mom lives with Joe, her father. Adele finds her mom s job to earn for the family embarrassing as she thinks its an insult to her. Themes from Babylonian myth can be seen in Egyptian stories; elements of Christian theology are evident in some ancient Chinese texts, and so on. How is this possible? How can cultures that have had little physical contact present us with such analogous narratives? These questions grow more perplexing when time is considered. Many of these tales are not only from separate corners of the earth, but also seem to have been written in vastly disparate time periods. This being said, it is still a fact that these cultures do rely on a number of shared stories. The hero exists universally; and often shares a number of elements across cultural boundaries. All ... He is warned of Enlil s plan by Ea, through a dream, and is instructed to build a great boat. Noah was the only man on earth still in Yahweh s favor. So he came to Noah and told him to also build a boat. The men are then instructed to take with them certain people, animals and possessions. Ea tells Utnapishtim to bring with him family and kin, gold, beasts, both wild and tame, and craftsmen. Noah is advised to take only his family and a pair of each of the earth s animals onto his boat. The items each man is directed to take says a great deal about the culture associated with each story. The Christian world is focused on piety and stresses the importance of denying oneself material wealth. Noah is not told to bring with him any worldly possessions unlike Utnapishtim who is told to take gold. Utnapishtim is also told to bring craftsmen, which emphasizes the important role they played in Babylonian culture. As the flood begins each man is warned that it will soon be time to board his boat. According to Thiroux and Krasemann (2006), Divine Command Theory states that morality is based not upon the consequences of actions or rules, nor upon self interest or other interestedness, but rather upon something higher than these mere mundane events of the imperfect human or natural worlds. In the context of pro life; morally speaking, it suggests that human life is a gift from a higher power God. Susan Casey is the author of a New York Times best seller, The Devils Teeth , helped publish Into Thin Air and The Perfect Storm, and is the editor and chief of Oprah Winfrey s Magazine O . She argues that these pollutants are doing damage in multiple facets, such as affecting food chains, disrupts organism reproduction, and directly cause the things we consume to be harmful to us. The author found many creative ways to appeal to all three persuasive appeals which are Logos, Pathos, and Ethos. Although the article was great at the end she added things that weren t needed and seemed to just be there as filler. To set up the stage for her credibility she tells a short story of the person who she gets most of her information from. The person s name is Charles Moore he was a boat captain who decided to take a different route that he usually takes, and he found a huge area of circling garbage in the ocean and this led to him changing occupations and creating Marine Research Foundation. Non voluntary actions portray the same traits except, the individual does not recognize the wickedness of his actions after the fact and maintains an ignorant mindset thus not experiencing any remorse. Therefore, one can induct that the distinguishing factors between the involuntary and non voluntary action is the presence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be cognizant and to act in total ignorance is to be wicked, as Aristotle proclaims every wicked man is ignorant (III.I.1110b 28). However, it is mentioned that ignorant behaviours (as they are deemed involuntary) are excusable, does this give appropriate reason for the wicked to be pardoned? An alternative interpretation is that perhaps Aristotle means to exemplify that ignorance in its particulars of actions are to be overlooked if the end goal was attempting to seek good. Due to the fact that all human actions ultimately aim towards good. It is solely the presence of ignorance that inhibits one from acting with complete merit, as ignorance is found only within the particulars of a circumstance. Particulars such as, the circumstances of the action and the objects with which it is concerned .(III.I 1111a 1) Though it is not easy to weigh a man s pardon upon dependant particulars, one must analyze the case and value which particulars merit a pardon. Furthermore, as the reader, I struggle to comprehend whether a pardon is dependant upon the circumstantial objects or rather circumstances of the action and its end . (III.2 111a 18 19) Moreover, if a wicked man seeks good, but his actions convey otherwise, ought he be pardoned for the misinterpretation of his means to obtain his end goal that is of good? Self sufficiency of man s spirit (608), genius and independency of one s self are ideals forming the basis for his views. Such views have always been strived after by each person because they are admirable and right. But on no account, on average, can they be associated with egoism. So why does Howard Roark call them egoism? Egoism as an ethical category has an extensive contextual interpretation. Definition of the term provides a fertile ground for a distortion of its meaning. • 43. Business Management Reflection Throughout our Business Management course I have learned an abundant amount of relevant information. The content ranged from topics as basic as a company s mission statement, to more complex managerial responsibilities. While all the information was important, there were three chapters that I found to be particularly beneficial. Chapter 4 Managing Ethics and Social Responsibility, Chapter 5 Planning and Goal Setting and Chapter 8 Managing Change and Innovation contained information that pertained to topics I find most important. I find that ethics, planning and obtaining goals, and dealing with change in a work environment are the most important things to know in any business In chapter 4 of Understanding Management, the text defines ethics as the code of moral principles and values that governs the behaviors of a person or group with respect to what is right or wrong. Although I knew the defining characteristics of ethics prior to the course reading, I did not know that moral development has three distinct stages: preconventional, conventional, and postconventional. In the preconventional stage of moral development, people act in self interest. This stage is most common in children up to the age of nine. People in this stage are only obedient because they wish to avoid punishment. However, in the conventional stage; a person can live up to social expectations and uphold the law. Most managers function in the conventional stage of moral development. It is not until the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Technology gives us an opportunity to connect with anybody we want from anywhere we are, saving us time. According to Daily News 84 percent of people worldwide say they couldn t go a single day without their mobile devicein their hand. That means almost everybody uses their phone in order to communicate and stay updated. I use my phone every single day and I cannot imagine living my life without a smartphone. I go on social media websites every day to connect with friends and see what they are doing. It is the fastest way to interact with friends and I love technologyfor that. A couple decades ago people didn t have good communicationdevices therefore it was much harder for them to connect with each other. Technology makes it much more convenient and easy for us to use, saving us a lot of time. Having technology makes our life easier and at the same time virtual. It is very convenient and just normal for our society to use it everyday. In my opinion modern technology provides more options and opportunities to connect with our friends. I really don t think that technology and social media ruin our friendships like most people would say. It all depends on how you use it. Technology and Social media ... • 45. Essay on Theorising Heterosexism for Social Work Education In the United States and many other countries throughout the world, societal structures have been created to place some in a position of power and others into oppressed positions. These systems often remain unchallenged and force the oppressed into silence for fear of becoming outcasts. These systems affect everyone and can even go as far as making the oppressed internally believe that they are supposed to stay in their second class state. One of these many systems is heterosexism. This paper will cover what heterosexism is, the effects of heterosexism, how heterosexism relates to other forms of oppression, and what can be done to stop heterosexism from being perpetuated. Julie Fish (2008) defines heterosexism, in her article, as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fish (2008) states some of these assumptions such as same sex couples cannot provide the appropriate gender role models, same sex parents will raise their children to be gay, and children will be bullied because they have parents who are both of the same gender. Brennan, Craig, and Thompson (2012) state in their study that there is a link between gay and bisexual men s obsession with thinness and muscularity and internalized homophobia. In their study they linked gay and bisexual men to depression, eating disorders, and internalized homophobia. Their experiment was based around the theory that people adopt certain characteristics to have access to privileges in a society and be accepted by the dominant group. Brennan et al. s (2012) results showed that of the men who showed higher levels of internalized homophobia they also exhibited higher drives for muscularity. This relates to heterosexism because gay and bisexual men are not considered the norm. This is why many gay and bisexual men have this obsession over being thin and muscular, partly because of internalized homophobia. This stems from an overcompensation act to try and be more masculine in an attempt to balance out their sexual orientation. It relates back to the idea of acceptance. They are consciously or unconsciously rationalizing that this will make them more accepted whether it is true or not. Olivia Murray (2011) talks about the need for more ... Type 1 Vs Type 2 Supernova A supernova is a marvelous thing that happens in space, and scientists are trying to use these explosions of stars to learn more about our expanding galaxy with the debris and elements that explode from the supernova, the largest explosion in space which can outshine many galaxies. Since the stars is a large distance away, when the supernovadoes happen, it would have actually happened a couple hundred years ago, because the light takes many years to reach our eyes. A supernova can happen in two different ways, known by a Type 1 supernova and a Type 2 supernova. The first way a supernova happens is in a binary solar system, meaning that there re two stars orbiting around the same point. One of the stars, which is a carbon oxygen white dwarf, ... • 47. The Lion In Winter Comparative Essay The case of Becket and The Lion in Winter is a unique one within cinema. Even though they are technically not made by the same people, these two films share many characters, including the lead played by Peter O Toole. They both draw on the history behind Henry II and yet differ from both the actual history and each other. But why did these films make changes, and what do they say about both the craft of film and the time that they came from? By examining the characters portrayals and the differences within, one sees that the historical accuracy provides a basis for the films to branch off into stronger narratives and cultural reflection. Historical accuracy (or the lack thereof) is often the first criticism against Hollywood period pieces. Yet, for the characters in these films, the historical sources themselves must be taken with a grain of salt in terms of their accuracy, especially in regards to Henry II. Peter of Blois describes Henry very favorably, saying no one is more cunning in their counsel, more fiery in speech, more secure in the midst of dangers, cautious in fortune, or constant in adversity, and then goes on to say that he believes that the king was in no way guilty of Becket s death. However, in the text by Gervais of Canterbury, Henry is described as being an adversary to Becket and violently persecuting those who supported him. The root of this likely comes down to Peter being one of the patrons of Henry and Gervais being a monk who knew Becket, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
