Prof Jim McManus discusses leadership models in public service and how they can fail or succeed across diverse communities. He reviews leadership approaches over the past 100 years, from the "great man" theory to more modern adaptive and transformational models. Effective leadership requires competence, strong culture, emotional intelligence, and a focus on justice. It also means fostering other leaders. Leadership should be inclusive and draw from diverse cultural worldviews rather than being based solely on white western men. Traditional virtues like justice, charity, fortitude, temperance and prudence can be recast through modern psychology to develop leaders.
The document discusses the concept of Islamization of knowledge. It begins by explaining how Western secular thought has influenced education systems around the world, including in Muslim countries. It then defines knowledge from both secular and Islamic perspectives. The sources of knowledge in Islam are identified as sense experience, reasoning, innate instinct, intuitive knowledge, and revelation. Islamization of knowledge is defined as reconceiving disciplines based on Islamic principles. The failure of the modern Western education system is analyzed and the aims of Islamizing knowledge are outlined as abolishing secular systems and fostering a deeper Islamic worldview.

The curriculum should include religious, scientific, literature and history. Teachers should be role models who respect students and help develop their personalities.
Imam Ghazali was an 11th century Islamic scholar and educator. He criticized the curriculum of his time for focusing too much on religious education and ignoring worldly education. Ghazali proposed a balanced curriculum that incorporated both religious and practical knowledge like agriculture and trade. He emphasized developing good character in students and recommended teaching methods like simplifying concepts, moving from simple to complex ideas, and using affection instead of corporal punishment. Ghazali's views on education emphasized its practical benefits and developing the whole person, and many of his ideas were later reflected in Western educational thought centuries later.
The document discusses the importance of creativity for moral educators in the modern world. It argues that creativity will be the most crucial factor for world-class moral educators as complexity increases. Creative moral educators encourage innovation, take balanced risks, and connect teachings to students' real-life experiences. Fostering creativity requires an organizational culture that values independent thinking, risk-taking, and diversity.

Contemporary da'i (preachers) face challenges in systematizing and applying practical methodology for da'wah. Some suggestions are performing da'wah through an Islamic movement, strengthening it with technology, using media/seminars, and displaying real Islamic lifestyle. One of the best means is for Islamic workers to have a clear conception of goals to dictate an effective method and avoid arbitrary decisions.
This document discusses cross-cultural leadership and analyzes different leadership styles in a cross-cultural context. It begins by defining cross-cultural leadership and examining the authentic leadership model, which has four dimensions: transparency, self-awareness, balanced processing, and ethical/moral leadership. It then connects these dimensions to Hofstede's cultural dimensions of power distance, individualism vs collectivism, and uncertainty avoidance. The document analyzes how transformational, transactional, and servant leadership styles may apply across cultures and concludes that leadership styles must be adapted to fit different cultural and organizational contexts.

Islamic education aims to develop students holistically by integrating religious and moral values into all aspects of life. It focuses on nurturing good character and behavior in addition to intellectual development. During the time of the Prophet Muhammad, the primary sources of Islamic education were the Quran and hadith, which were taught through both words and actions. The goal was to produce individuals who are conscious of God in all their thoughts and deeds. Later periods of Islamic history also emphasized pursuing knowledge as a form of worshipping God and fulfilling one's religious duties.
