3. MEANING OF EDUCATION
The word education is about teaching, learning skills
and knowledge.
We have two type of systems of education running in
Pakistan.
1. Islamic system of education
2. Secular system of education

4. ISLAMIC SYSTEM OF EDUCATION
• Islamic system of education is based on religion (Islam).
• It is natural system of education.
• Its content of education is based on Shareeah.
• Curriculum is based on Wohi.
• Formal and informal education equally necessary for this
system.

5. CONCEPT OF EDUCATION AND
KNOWLEDGE IN ISLAM
• Knowledge can be defined as “the state of knowing the fact”.
• Superiority of Adam to angles & their bowing down to Adam because of his
knowledge.
The first revelation of Quran is about reading and knowledge. Allah says
“Read in the name of your Lord Who created. He created man from a clot.
Read and your Lord is Most Honorable. Who taught (to write) with the pen.
Taught man what he knew not”.
[Surah Al-Alaq 96:1-5]

6. Allah created man and provided him with the tools for acquiring knowledge.
Allah says:
• “And Allah has extracted you from the wombs of your mothers not knowing
a thing, and He made for you hearing and vision and intellect that perhaps
you would be grateful”.
[al-Nahl 16:78]
• And says: 'My Lord increase me in knowledge’.
[Ta-Ha 20:114]
The prophet (SAW) says:
• “Who ever follows a path in the pursuit of knowledge, Allah will make a
path to Paradise easy for him.”
[Bukhaari,kitab al-ilm,10]

7. • “when a man dies, all his deeds come to an end except for three-an ongoing
charity, beneficial knowledge or a righteous son who will pray for him.”
[Muslim, 1631]
In Quran the words occurred so many times.

• Islam motivates to learn all kind of beneficial knowledge.
• The main purpose of acquiring knowledge is to bring closer to Allah, not
simply for the satisfaction of the mind or the senses. Knowledge must be
linked with values and goals.

8. AIMS OF EDUCATION IN ISLAM
General objectives of Islamic education:
• To teach students the fundamentals of islam which includes:
• Tawheed
• Iman(faith)
• Ibadah(worship)
• Akhlaaq(morals)
• Shariah(Islamic laws)
• To develop in students a deep rooted belief in,and a commitment to, the
fundamentals of islam.

9. • To help student establish the knowledge and practice of Taw’heed.
• To develop students knowledge of the Prophet(SAW) and practice the
teachings of his sunnah.
• To help the students develop their identity as believers (Mu’aminun)
• To clarify students the Islamic laws in light of Quran and Sunnah.
• To develop students understanding the types of Shirk.
• To develop the understanding of concept of Sin and its consequences.
• To help students develop an awareness of the wisdom behind Allah’s
creation.
• To teach students Islamic manners.
• To prepare students to contribute to the establishment of an Islamic
society.
• To make students aware of their responsibility as Muslim of their
environment.

10. THE OBJECTIVES OF EDUCATION IN
ISLAM
• Strengthen the connection between man and his creator.
• Preserving lifes order.
• Developing knowledge and connection with the universe.
• Cultural construction.
• Establishing justice.
• Protection of religion.
• Protection of life.
• Protection of wealth

11. METHODS OF TEACHING
Islamic system of education stresses to synthesize the knowledge of science
and technology in the light of Quran and Sunnah.
According to Islamic philosophy and the history of Islamic education these
are method of teachings:
• Lecture method
(khutba-a-Hajjatul Wida & before prayer of juma)
• Question Answer method
(Questions of villagers & holy companions related to religion, management,
administration etc.)
• Discussion (the discussion as Ashab-a-suffa)

12. • Group discussion
(group discussion of Imam Azam’s pupils in his class)
• Demonstration
(Haztrat Ali (a.s) performing Wazu and other practices)
• Debate
(debates among the pupils of Imam Azam on various topic like time table of
prayers etc.)

13. CONCLUSION
Islam not only promotes education but also thinks it as a fundamental duty
on each and everyone.
Islam divides all types of knowledge & education into two categories
1. ILM-E-NAFE
Education which is beneficial not only for the person but also for the society,
country and the humanity
1. ILM-E-GAIR NAFE
Education which is harmful for the society or humanity or that make the
person far away from his creator.

14. ALLAMA IQBAL SAYS:
Knowledge gives power. This power should be under Deen.
Otherwise it is pure Satanic. A Muslim must Islamize his
Knowledge.
