This document provides an overview of airport components and operations. It describes landside areas like parking lots and roads, as well as airside areas such as runways, taxiways, and aprons. Runways are where planes land and take off, marked with white lines, while taxiways connect runways to parking areas and are marked with yellow lines. Aprons are where planes park. Airports can be towered or non-towered depending on air traffic. Heathrow Airport is located in west London, with 5 terminals and 1 cargo terminal, and was the busiest airport in Europe in 2011 for passenger traffic.

places and the runway.Taxiways markings are yellow . Apart from
runway, taxiways use letters to show names.
• Aprons- are the areas where aircraft parks.Also vechiles can use
aprons.

Airports can be towered or non-towered, depending on air traffic
density and available funds. Due to their high capacity and
busy airspace, many international airports have air traffic control
located on site

10. In 2011, Heathrow was the busiest airport in Europe in terms of total passenger
traffic, with 13.9% more passengers than Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airportand
23.0% more than Frankfurt Airport. However, it was in second place behind
Charles de Gaulle in terms of total aircraft movements in 2011 with 5.1% fewer
landings and take offs than its French counterpart. Heathrow was the third
busiest European airport by cargo traffic in 2010, after Paris Charles de Gaulle
and Frankfurt.
