Question 1
In what ways does your
media product use,
develop or challenge
codes and conventions of
real media products?
Front cover
Masthead
Main image
Date
Main cover line
Cover lines
Barcode
Strapline
My front cover uses a range of conventions that are also seen in real media products. For example my magazine uses
a bold masthead to help attract attention and make it stand out on my front cover. I also use a large main cover line
to attract attention to it. I have developed the codes and conventions of the main image. In most magazine a medium
close up is used on the front cover however I have used a mid shot. This is due to me choosing to have a band on the
front cover. This reflects the subgenre of my magazine as the music group is most made up of bands. Attention is still
attracted to the band members however as I still use direct address on the magazine. I also have not used a puff in
my magazine. A puff is usually used to make something stand out. However I have not used it as I think that a puff can
make the magazine look unprofessional. I want the focus to be on the main image.

Boarders around edges
Articles and page numbers
Page numbers and
anchorage text
I have followed most conventions of a usual magazine contents page. I have put boarders
around my images and included page numbers and what's on that page. The boarders
around the images make the images stand out and make it look a little neater. Again I
haven't used a puff on this page. Where in the magazine they have used one. I have also
used anchorage text on the images that I have use to show how the images link to the rest
of the text on the page.

For my double page spread I tried to follow the codes and conventions of magazines. I have
printed to masthead on the page to help brand my magazine. It also identifies the article to
the magazine. I have used columns to help break up the article. I have done this as it makes
the magazine easier to read. I have used images that match the style of the artist. I have also
used a grab quote which makes the page more interesting, aswell as this i have also used a
range of fonts which is a convention of a double page spread.
