This document summarizes the construction of a magazine cover, contents page, and double page article spread. It shows the initial cover design with the masthead and coverlines added. The contents page is then shown with subheadings and page references. Finally, an article double page spread is constructed with images, a drop cap, page numbers, and masthead, though the author notes it could have included the article writer's name to follow magazine conventions.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. This is my first screen shot. Here I have simply inserted my main cover line and masthead.
3. I have now added more coverlines included names of artists. I have also added my
barcode as it is a convention of typical magazines.
4. This is the way I wanted my magazine to look, however I have changed it since. This is
when I began to create my editorial and add the date and issue number.
6. I have added the subheadings ‘What’s Hot’ and ‘Fashion’. Underneath these headings I
will put my page references and coverlines.
7. Here is my contents page once I have put the coverlines on it.
8. These are both my front cover and contents page together before I edited the fonts and
colours.
9. Here I have began to construct my double page spread article and insert images. I created
a drop cap and added page numbers.
10. This is my final double page spread. I also added my masthead, however I realise I could
have added the name of who the article was written by to make my magazine follow the
conventions of a typical music magazine.
