3. Masthead
I have added the masthead
which is a convention of a
magazine, in the masthead I
have included the positioning
statement which is a claim a
magazine makes about itself.
The masthead is positioned at
the top of the magazine front
cover and is meant to be the
biggest text on the page
however this is not the case for
my school magazine so when I
am making my music magazine
I will make sure that this is the
biggest text on the page.
Cover lines
Usually in a magazine there are about 5-6 cover lines
on a magazine, however, on my magazine I have only
used 4, I will improve this in my music magazine by
using 6 cover lines.
Barcode
The barcode is surrounded by the
price of the magazine, the issue
number and the website of the
magazine this follows the codes
and conventions of a magazine,
however, the date is meant to be
included which I haven’t done and
so I will make sure that I will
include this in my music magazine.
Main Cover line
The main cover line is usually
the artists name and is usually
the second biggest writing on
the page. The main sub line is
smaller than the main cover
line and is directly under the
main cover line. This follows
the codes and conventions of a
magazine. To improve on my
music magazine I will make
sure that the main cover line is
the second largest writing on
the page and not the largest.
Buzzwords
Following the codes and
conventions of a magazine I
have included buzzwords on
my magazine, this helps to
grab the readers attention.
Central Image
The central image is a medium
close up of the person which is
the main focus for the
magazine. This follows the
codes and conventions of a
magazine as the central image is
always looking straight at the
audience and is a medium close
up
4. Masthead
Keeping to the codes and conventions of a magazine I have added the masthead to the top of the
contents page, however, I did not include the positioning statement within the masthead and so to
improve I will include the full masthead on my music magazine.
Images
I have included a long shot of
the main person that is
featured in my school
magazine on the contents
page which keeps with the
codes and conventions of a
magazine. I have also
included smaller images –
that are not always featured
on a magazine- these are
used to grab more reader’s
attention.Cover lines
I have added the cover lines to the contents page, this will be everything that will be in the magazine,
this follows the codes and conventions of a magazine. However, I have incorrectly labelled the page
numbers and have placed them on the right hand side when they are meant to be on the left. In my
music magazine I will make sure that the page numbers will be correctly labelled and on the left
hand side of the cover lines.
Editors Letter
Following the codes and
conventions of a
contents page for a
magazine I have included
the editors letter, I have
not added a picture or a
signature next to the
editors letter, however,
to improve I will be
adding them to my
music magazine.
5. To add images I had to use a camera and take pictures according to my sketch
design whilst also following the codes and conventions of a magazine front cover
and contents page. The shots that I used for the images are a long shot and
medium close ups.
In the process of making my school magazine I used Photoshop to design both the
front cover and contents page of my school magazine. Using this allowed me
develop the design that I wanted for my school magazine whilst following the codes
and conventions of a front cover and contents page. Using Photoshop I was able to
edit the images that I took with a camera and I was able to add them to my front
cover and my contents page for my school magazine.
6. The strengths of my product are that it follows the codes and conventions of a
magazine front cover and contents page. I was able to add images to my product easily
and edit them so that they fit in with my school magazine. The weaknesses of my
product are that some of the codes and conventions that are meant to be included in a
magazine front cover and contents page were left out of my school magazine, however,
in order to improve on my music magazine i will make sure that I follow all of the codes
an conventions of a magazine front cover and contents page.
The strengths of the new media technologies that I used were that I was able to use the
camera without any problems and take my pictures that I needed for my school
magazine. I was also able to use Photoshop without any major problems to create the
design for my school magazine front cover and contents page. The weaknesses of the
new media technologies that I used were that I had a problem with time to finish the
designs in time for the deadlines as i had to work slow because i was using a new media
technology and so i had to come in my free time in order to finish my product in time.
