or challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products?

3. O In my magazine, I have tried to follow as
many of the regular conventions of a music
magazine, that I found during my research,
on the front cover, contents page and the
double page spread. I developed a house
style of red, white, grey and blue and
continued this throughout each page of the
magazine. I chose these colours as I
thought that they were calm colours and
helped to make my magazine look sensible
and sophisticated. This fits with my genre of
Jazz which mainly attracts an older
audience. As these were the colours that I
wanted to use on my magazine I made sure
that my model was dressed in similar
colours so that she fit the house style too.

4. O Many of the music magazines that I saw in my
research used more than one image on the
contents page and put there text against a
plain coloured background. I challenged this
by using a full image for my contents page
and adding the text onto the image and
having only one other picture which is the
editors picture. I saw this idea in magazines
such as vogue and it made the page look neat
and classy so I thought I would use this idea
for my magazine. I followed the conventions
of adding a editors letter and a regulars and
features column as this was a neat way of
organising the text.

5. O My front cover follows the conventions of a
magazine as the image is a midshot and the
model is looking straight into the camera to
grab the attention of the reader. Although I
didn’t add many different images on my
contents page I developed the double page
spread to have more images when the double
page spreads that I saw while researching
mostly had one main image. I felt that the
images looked a lot better on the double page
spread as it fits with the article. I also saw that
many of the magazines put an image of the
front cover on the contents page and
information on how to subscribe which I
thought was a good idea so I done this.
