Dyeing
Dyeing is the process of adding color to textile
products like fibers, yarns, and fabrics. Dyeing is
normally done in a special solution containing dyes
and particular chemical material.
Types of Dyes
There are many different types of dyes. Two primary
categories of dye are :
1. Natural
2. Synthetic
Natural Dye
Natural dyes are colorants derived from plants, trees,
or minerals. The majority of natural dyes are
vegetable dyes from plant sources such as roots,
bark, leaves, and wood and other biological sources
such as fungi and lichens.
Synthetic Dye
Synthetic dyes, made in a laboratory, are chemicals
often derived from sources like coal tar or petroleum-
based substances. They cost less, offered a vast range
of new colors and they acquire better properties to
the dyed materials.
Types of Synthetic Dye
1. Acid
2. Basic
3. Direct
4. Mordant
5. Vat
6. Reactive
7.Azoic
8. Sulphur etc.
Dyeing Method
There are several types of dyeing process.
Mass Coloration : This method is done to the molten fibers or
plastic chips or textile polymer with pigment dyes. After that,
the polymers will extrude from spinneret.
Fiber Dyeing : The method of dyeing fibers before blending with
other colors to give fancy yarn or fabric.
Dyeing Method
Yarn Dyeing: This method is done to yarns in forms of hanks
or packages dyeing.
Fabric Dyeing : The method done after weaving, knitting, or
non-woven to make dyed fabrics. A popular method of
dyeing as the dyeing fabrics will be processed further to
garment industries very easily.
Dyeing Method
Continuous Method : A method where different machinery is
put in such a sequence so that it can produce the dyed fabric in
one pass. It is a very fast process but very expensive.
Garment Dyeing : This the last method of dyeing goods.
However, the dye might not completely penetrate though the
fabric such as between the seams, buttons, zippers etc. It is used
for socks. Sweater dyeing etc.
Dyeing Process
The dyeing process involves three steps
Preparation is the step where unwanted impurities are removed
from fabrics before dyeing.
Dyeing is the application of color to the textile substrates, mainly
using synthetic organic dyes.
Finishing involves treatments with chemical compound aimed at
improving the quality of fabric.
Conclusion
The dyeing process is one of the key factors in successful trading of
textile products. Dyeing methods have not changed much with time.
Basically water is used to clean, dye and apply chemicals to the
fabrics, and also to rinse the treated fibers or fabrics. The change of
technology, from hand power to electrical machinery, fundamentally
changed the textile industry, its product marketability and its
profitability.

Presentation on Dyeing

  • 3. Dyeing Dyeing is the process of adding color to textile products like fibers, yarns, and fabrics. Dyeing is normally done in a special solution containing dyes and particular chemical material.
  • 4. Types of Dyes There are many different types of dyes. Two primary categories of dye are : 1. Natural 2. Synthetic
  • 5. Natural Dye Natural dyes are colorants derived from plants, trees, or minerals. The majority of natural dyes are vegetable dyes from plant sources such as roots, bark, leaves, and wood and other biological sources such as fungi and lichens.
  • 6. Synthetic Dye Synthetic dyes, made in a laboratory, are chemicals often derived from sources like coal tar or petroleum- based substances. They cost less, offered a vast range of new colors and they acquire better properties to the dyed materials.
  • 7. Types of Synthetic Dye 1. Acid 2. Basic 3. Direct 4. Mordant 5. Vat 6. Reactive 7.Azoic 8. Sulphur etc.
  • 8. Dyeing Method There are several types of dyeing process. Mass Coloration : This method is done to the molten fibers or plastic chips or textile polymer with pigment dyes. After that, the polymers will extrude from spinneret. Fiber Dyeing : The method of dyeing fibers before blending with other colors to give fancy yarn or fabric.
  • 9. Dyeing Method Yarn Dyeing: This method is done to yarns in forms of hanks or packages dyeing. Fabric Dyeing : The method done after weaving, knitting, or non-woven to make dyed fabrics. A popular method of dyeing as the dyeing fabrics will be processed further to garment industries very easily.
  • 10. Dyeing Method Continuous Method : A method where different machinery is put in such a sequence so that it can produce the dyed fabric in one pass. It is a very fast process but very expensive. Garment Dyeing : This the last method of dyeing goods. However, the dye might not completely penetrate though the fabric such as between the seams, buttons, zippers etc. It is used for socks. Sweater dyeing etc.
  • 11. Dyeing Process The dyeing process involves three steps Preparation is the step where unwanted impurities are removed from fabrics before dyeing. Dyeing is the application of color to the textile substrates, mainly using synthetic organic dyes. Finishing involves treatments with chemical compound aimed at improving the quality of fabric.
  • 12. Conclusion The dyeing process is one of the key factors in successful trading of textile products. Dyeing methods have not changed much with time. Basically water is used to clean, dye and apply chemicals to the fabrics, and also to rinse the treated fibers or fabrics. The change of technology, from hand power to electrical machinery, fundamentally changed the textile industry, its product marketability and its profitability.
