His Excellency- George Washington Book Review Essays
His Excellency: George Washington
Joseph Ellis sets out to make George Washington, the person we think of as an icon, into a real person.
He wants to show us what makes him tick. He wants to turn the marble into the man. So many
students today see George Washington as a memorial, a monument, a face on a dollar bill, and the man
who could not lie when he cut down the cherry tree. He wants to show us the man George Washington
was in his day. Ellis s method was to divide George Washington s life into three main parts:
1. Events that transpired during the French and Indian War
2. His part as general in the American Revolution
3. His actions as President of the United States
When writing the biography of George ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His Excellency is divided into seven different chapters; 1) Interior Regions 2) The Strenuous Squire 3)
First in War 4) Destiny s Child 5) Introspective Interlude 6) First in Peace, and 7) Testament. Each
chapter in the book covers a part of George Washington s life. It begins with Washington as a 21 year
old serving as a messenger in enemy terrain during the French/Indian war, which we have learned for
our past test is also known as the seven year war. Instead of going to school like many men his age,
George instead decided to fight in the war. All of the forces that were put under him were defeated and
this upset and extremely frustrated him. He was forced to witness his own group of soldiers get
massacred because of decisions he had made.
The following chapters portray the sections of Washington life when he was a soldier, his days as a
general, and his duty as the president. The book details the military plights Washington faced as a
leader. Ellis says that Washington lost more battles than he won; indeed, he lost more battles than any
victorious general in modern history. The War for Independence emerged as the most significant
milestone in George Washington s life, a time in which he evolved into a grown man, a notorious
politician, and a national icon. Ellis does not take us through each battle in detail, but describes the
events that shaped Washington s life and made him a human

T-Mobile Competitive Forces Model
Information systems interact with the organizations and influences the organization in many aspects of
the whole organizational structure to the daily behavior. Information systems can enable strategies in
four aspects including low cost leadership, product differentiation, focus on market value and
strengthen customer and supplier intimacy.
Low cost leadership means offer the lower price to customers and operate the organization in the
lowest costs (Laudon, 2014, pp. 126). It is believed that the information system urged the
organizational structure to be flattened, while the scope of information dissemination information will
be expanded, the lower staffs will be authorized and the efficiency of management will be enhanced

The information systems can make the company realize the reasons for the deficiency of competitive
advantages in T Mobile by using the Michael Porter s (Laudon, 2014, pp. 124) competitive forces
model to analyze the T Mobile, its competitors and the environment.
First of all, the traditional competitors that are sharing the market, like the iPhone that T Mobile has
already considered. The information system can be used to analyze the competitors actions like
innovation in the production style or the introduction of new product that appealed the customers.
Besides, there are always many new entrants enter the market with the flow of labor and capital
(Laudon, 2014, pp. 124). Although the requirements for the entry to the mobile market is relative
higher than others, the number of new entrants are considerable while customers are more selective.
As a result, those companies like the T Mobile in this case that are lack of competitive advantages will
be omitted by customers. As for the substitute, the development of entertainment tools decrease the
desire of the mobile phone although there is little instrument can replace the mobile phone

Dreams Essay
Dreams
In this information age, the more one knows the better will be his response to his world. What better
way to know oneself than through ones dreams and their interpretations. Take Joe for example. He
dreamt that he was lying in bed crying. When his mother came in to see what was wrong they had sex.
Initially Joe woke up, thinking he was in the middle of a nightmare. Now there are two choices for
Joe. He could either feel weird, that he had feelings about his mother, or he could look at what
symbols were in his dream. Joe decided to analyze his dream. Since he was in his own bed, it showed
that he is comfortable in his life. Secondly Joe, needed to decipher if there was ... Show more content

Most Westerners, as opposed to Asians, are better able to distinguish between dream and reality.
Psychologists like Sigmund Freud and Karl Jung are famous for their dream studies. Freud s most
famous work, The Interpretation Of Dreams, argues that the unconscious drives and desires
contributed to conscious behavior. Freud also felt that a dream was the fulfillment of a wish.
Psychologists like Robert Van de Castle, Ph D., have concluded that children and adults dream in the
same way. Though their dreams may be different, they also serve the same purpose (Short 30). Oona
Short, author of Sweet and
Not So Sweet Dreams from Working Mother, says that small children, mainly infants dream more
often than adults do. While adults only spend about twenty percent of their nights in dream sleep,
infants spend nearly half of all sleep time dreaming (30). Dreams are put in two categories: good
dreams and nightmares. Between the ages of three and seven, one begins to develop good dreams
(Short 30 1), which are simply characterized as what makes the individual happy. Once they have
established these dreams, they last throughout one s life. In one year some have as many as 1000
dreams, but remember very few. For that reason many people claim to be nondreamers (Faraday 19).
Remembering dreams can be difficult for some, but dreams are remembered like all other memory.

Theme Of The Interlopers And The Machine That Won The War
The Interlopers and The Machine That Won The War are two different short stories that heavily push
the themes of irony and suspense and although they may share these similarities I believe that they
also have many differences. Throughout this essay I am going to be breaking down these two stories
to find what sort of similarities and differences they contain. A similarity? They are both fictional
stories. A difference? One takes place in a Sci fi and futuristic setting, while the other takes place in a
more modern, or possibly older time frame.
Although two stories can have a similar overall genre, they may have a different and more specific
genre. A good example of this is the stories, The Interlopers and The Machine That Won The War.
Both of these stories are works of fiction, none of the events that take place in either of them are real.
On closer inspection we realize that although they are both fiction, they are different types of fiction.
The Interlopers is a mystery. The story starts by explaining that in time past two neighboring families
went to court over they strip of land between them, to find out which family owned it. When they
court reached their decision and chose which family won, they losing family, frustrated that they didn
t get the land, started a rivalry that would last generations. They mystery? Who are they families and
why are they still fighting over this land, years and years later. The Machine that Won The War is a
work of Sci fi. It has

Bringing Electricity to the Masses Essay
It was not very long ago that as night descended the cities, towns, and homes of the world fell into
darkness as well. Lit by candles, oil lamps, gas lamps, and open flame, the light put off by these
flames was not very bright and also had the down fall of producing fumes, smoke, and ash. The
electric light was little more than a novelty for the wealthy and only had small scale applications
where only a few bulbs would be needed. (Flatow 11) If we think about how dependent on electricity
we are today, it becomes difficult to imagine the world as we know it without it. Our cars, computers,
cell phones, almost every facet of our modern life involves electricity. It wasn t till a young scientist;
Thomas Alva Edison had the idea to create a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was able to study the trial and errors of his colleagues and succeed where they had failed. Another
advantage for Edison was that he decided to build his light bulb around an entire electrical system of
his own design. He would design and produce generators to supply electricity with integrated fuses to
regulate and control it. (Flatow 11) Once the system which would power his bulb was designed he
began work on designing the bulb itself. The young inventor began to experiment with different
filament materials and shapes. He soon discovered that no matter what he tried the filament would
melt shortly after a current was run through it. To resolve this Edison had developed a thermal
regulator to prevent the incandescing element of his lamp from melting says biographer and Edison
scholar Paul Israel (Jones 55 56) What this meant was as the filament heated up, the regulator would
turn the light off briefly to allow it to cool. This gave Edison the confidence to announce that he had
made a breakthrough, though he had not perfected the type of material used to make the filament. He
invited the press to witness his triumph. Disregarding that his bulbs did not last very long even after
his thermal regulator was in place; Edison was still able to convince investors to back him. Edison had
been working to design and build his electrical system at his laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey.

Essay On Racism In America
For many young americans, it is simpler to see racism as an issue of the past not the present. They see
the changing face of their culture as a positive one, working towards the embodiment of a colorblind
society. Many of the effects of racism have not been eliminated though, but have been absorbed. This
creates an environment where racial divides and oppression are able to thrive openly in America
without being noticed. Millennials have become a group that prides itself of being beyond racism, but
this is because we are unable to see the changing face of racial divides. Racism has endured because
of its acceptance within American society, whether deliberately or undeliberately.
Hindsight is twenty twenty and it makes it easier to clearly see issues of race within a historical
context. When opening up an American history book it does not take long to find numerous examples
of the mistreatment and oppression of minority groups in our society. Although it is important to learn
about the many struggles of minority groups within the United States, it can work to turn the whole
issue of racism into one only of the past. For example, it has become a common lesson learned that the
end of the civil war signaled the end of racial divides between black and white. In many ways though,
it signaled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are taught a version of our history in school that can be finished off with a nice ending to prove we

with our desire for a picture perfect ending. It instead is a lesson of how time after time we as a
country slowly change only through the pressures of what is considered socially acceptable at the
time. Yes, we as a country have made many leaps and bounds toward racial equality since we first
became a country, but it is negligent to view racism as a lesson only of history when we still have a

Paper 5 Anatomy/Physiology of the Special Senses (vision/auditory)
Color Perception
Visual processing in our brain cannot be done without actual vision. The anatomy of the eye is
carefully arranged with all the parts that assist our vision in an optimal way. A layer of connective
tissue called the sclera surrounds the eyeball. Underneath it is the choroid, which is rich in blood
vessels that supply the eye. Attached to this layer is the lens by cililary muscles. The lens focus light to
the retina and the amount of light entering is controlled by pupil dilation or constriction. Pupil dilation
and constriction is regulated by the iris of the eye which consist of two layers of smooth muscle layers
that contract or constrict to increase or decrease the diameter of the pupil respectively. The retina is the
inner most layer of the eye. It the main site of photoreceptors that convert light energy into electrical
energy where the information gets sent to the brain and is what we perceive as vision. (Marieb, 2014)
Two types of photoreceptors can be found in the retina, the rods and cones. Rods are mainly
responsible for scoptic vision thus mostly reactive in dim lighting. Cones are responsible for
photopicvision, which provides color under bright light conditions. When it is dark out, only the rods
are active so you see monochromatic vision. There are three types of cones S, M and L that respond to
different wavelengths. Each rod and cone contains two parts the

Essay on The Harry Potter Controversy
The Harry Potter Controversy
The wildly popular Harry Potter book series by J. K. Rowling has caused controversy for many
families over the past five years. These novels according to some critics are harmless, adventurous,
children s tales. Others choose to portray them as stories that inspire children to become involved in
the occult and serious witchcraft. The Harry Potter novels chronicle the life of a young wizard whose
wizard parents were killed by the evil Lord Voldermort. On his eleventh birthday he receives
invitation to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Each of the five books represents a
year of his life there (Walker). This essay will discuss whether the Harry Potter novels are a suitable

She said that children will come into her store between books and ask her what can I read that s as
good as Harry Potter? (Kennedy Ross). Elementary school principal, Dennis Edge, spoke about how
the books have positively affected the reading as his school. He said that he would not suggest Harry
Potter is single handedly solving our reading problems but he did note that once students become
successful at reading that encourages them to read more (Kennedy Ross). Potter novels draw in
children and adults with interesting and humorous story lines.
Even children that are too young to read can benefit from having Harry Potter stories read to them.
Reading aloud humorous and exciting stories like Harry Potter allows for a myriad of shared emotions
(Giorgis 82). Interesting books read aloud leave kids wanting to hear another. Janet Seden, professor
of the School of Health and Social Welfare at Open University concluded that enjoyable fictional
experiences as a child create empathy in the reader and enable us to confront the need for imagination
as parents and practitioners (Seden 296). Some parents are pleased by the way that Harry Potter has
interested their children in reading, but others find the novels to promote good morals.
Harry Potter is a good role model for children. Harry is a boy wizard that despite all the hard breaks he
has in his life still

Business Administration ( Fredericton ) Should Pursue...
Purpose:
The purpose of this memo is to share my thoughts and recommendations with my team member
whether the UNB Faculty of Business Administration (Fredericton) should pursue third party
accreditations as part of its strategy.
Summary:
Based on the discussions, analyses and interviews, the Faculty of Business Administration
(Fredericton) faces real challenges whether they should pursue third party accreditations in particular
the well known AACSB accreditation in light of the following points:
1) UNB Faculty of Business Administration (Saint John) is already working on achieving the AACSB
accreditation,
2) The direct and indirect benefits and costs of AACSB accreditation,
3) The recent changes in the AACSB Accreditation Standards for Business and Accounting,
4) The impact and view of the stakeholders on the accreditation value, and
5) The consideration of the being accredited by AACSB on the short and long term strategy of the
Faculty of Business Administration (Fredericton).
The final decision in regard to AACSB accreditation should take into consideration the overall
cost/benefit for all stakeholders, the impact on long term for the Faculty of Business Administration
(Fredericton), and how this initiative will support the strategic direction and plan. Discussion:
The current situation: On January 3, 2014, UNB Faculty of Business Administration (Saint John)
became a member of AACSB. Although joining the AACSB does not confer accreditation and should
not be interpreted

Benefits Of Imperialism
Imperialism s Benefits
Brodie Talbot
Do the benefits of imperialism outweigh the costs? Yes. Imperialism is the best for the country. The
main reasons that the power of imperialism is important for the United States is because of the land
and resources that each place has, money, and the language and government. The policy of extending
the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries. (Dictionary Collins, English 2016)
this definition of imperialism describes why it was crucial for the united states to imperialize other

Act Like A Woman
Act Like A Man Act Like A Woman
1. Men are not supposed to have feelings: This stereotype projects men who display emotional
reactions, as being hyper feminine and womanly feelings thereby, being something to be ashamed
about. This perception gains root because of how male vulnerability seemingly detracts from
manliness.
For example, boys who fall down and get injured are not supposed to cry. 1. Women are supposed to
be sensitive and soft natured: Females are stereotypically associated with emotions and maternal
instincts. Lack of sentiments and emotions in them is perceived as un womanly, and an anomaly.
For example, it is considered unnatural that a girl does not cry at her own wedding or does not want to
have children.

it is acceptable and even cool for men to smoke and indulge in other similar activities, regardless of
the environment, social and ecological effects of their actions.
For example, many boys are peer pressured into smoking, and in turn, continue the cycle by
influencing others. This recreational smoking turns into a habit or addiction, but is still seen as
attractive. 4. Smoking is unacceptable for women: A woman smoking is considered very shameful,
and even strange and alien. Activities like smoking, parties and recreational drugs are seen as
acceptable for men, but completely out of question for women.
For example, a girl smoking is seen as a reprehensible act, but the condemnation is based more on
gender bias and social stereotypes than on health concerns.

Piaget Today
Child development does not mean developing your child into the person you think they should be, but
helping them develop into the best person they are meant to be.
― Toni Sorenson
Jean Piaget was a leader in the field of developmental psychology, the study of how people grow.
Instead of continuing the Freud s work with psychoanalysis, as many psychologists and philosophers
did at the time, Piaget stayed closer to his teacher Pierre Janet s psychology (Vidal) Best known for his
theory on stages of cognitive development, Piaget was a great innovator and set up the foundation for
today s psychology and education.
Working with children from the early 1920s to the late 1970s, Piaget discovered that there are four
stages of mental development: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operations, and formal
operations ( Jean Piaget ). Each stage is defined by what a child is or is not able to do, as well as
specific milestone accomplishments. Beginning at the sensorimotor stage, the focus of cognitive
development for children from birth to age 2 is to distinguish themselves from the objects around
them. The main accomplishment of this stage is for the child to develop object constancy. When first
born, children are unable to recognize or understand that when an object is not in sight, it still exists

Shakespeare powerfully focuses on the negative consequences of ambition in the text Macbeth and in
the film Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott and how it can lead to one s downfall. Macbeth is shown
as the noble hero by the King after slaying the Thane of Cawdor and claiming victory in the war for
Scotland, while Ridley Scott s Gladiator portrays Maximus as the noble hero but still not comparing to
Macbeth like Commodus does in the film. Shakespeare effectively focuses on the cynical
repercussions of ambition in Macbeth and how it can lead to one s failure. Macbeth is shown as a

Macbeth is slain as a tyrant and Lady Macbeth takes her own life. Shakespeare does not give either
character the opportunity to enjoy what they had achieved, suggesting that it is more satisfying to
achieve your goals fairly than to achieve them through corruption. Ridley Scott powerfully focuses on
the negative consequences of ambition in Gladiator and how it can lead to one s downfall. Using a
similar storyline to Shakespeare s Macbeth he uses similar character structures but also giving them
many differences. Commodus ambition begins after he kills his father Emperor Marcus Aurelius
because he feels that his father did not love him enough and becomes the Emperor of Rome. Marcus
says that Commodus is not a moral man and that he cannot rule . Commodus is the Macbeth character
in Gladiator but is still not the main character. The main character in the film is Maximus who
resembles Macduff in the film. While still being shown as a great fighter, Commodus is also shown in
the film as a bit of a coward, after Maximus wins the war for Rome, Commodus shows up late to the
victory celebrations acting as if he wasn t even aware of a war even existing. Quickly after being
crowned as Emperor of Rome, Commodus becomes disliked by the Senate and the people of Rome
and seen as a pathetic leader. Commodus uses the ambition to be like his father to create barbaric

Virtual Study Hall
Every end of marking period and progress check some students rush to complete all their work on

virtual study hall days on the ends of marking periods or progress checks though, and those let
students work on past assignments without having to work on new lessons. The thing is, they don t
have them every end of marking period or progress check. One thing I think that would make progress
checks and marking periods less stressful would be to have virtual study halls every end of marking
period/progress check, so let s look at some ways a study hall would be beneficial to students and

So first of all, teachers would have a better day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the time marking periods and progress checks are very stressful. But if there was a virtual
study hall day at the end of every marking period/progress check, it would make things a lot easier for
the students. Students would only have to work on past assignments and would also want to work
harder so they can have the day off. Who knows, maybe they would even want to work ahead on
lessons, too.
Finally, students would be able to complete all their work on time. It would allow students with
lessons that have piled up over time to be able to get them done. It would also mean less assignments
due. In the end it,would probably just amount to more students getting assignments finished before the
due date. Because of this study hall days would most likely help lots of students.
On the other hand, teachers have to post a certain amount of lessons each year. In order to combat this
problem, the school would just subtract off certain days from breaks. Or maybe they would have a few
more days of school before summer break. Also,it could just mean having more lessons posted on
other days. Either way, the teachers would be able to post the required number of lessons, and students
would have the needed time before important

self help tools?
Okay to start off, I decided to do a self assessment based on depression. It s only nine questions and it
was closed end; so the answers ranged from, no, not at all , on some days , on more than half the days
, nearly every day .
Here are the nine questions:
1) Have you found little pleasure or interest in doing things?
2) Have you found yourself feeling down, depressed or hopeless?
3) Have you had trouble falling or staying asleep, or sleeping too much?
4) Have you been feeling tired or had little energy?
5) Have you had a poor appetite or been overeating?
6) Have you felt that you re a failure or let yourself or your family down?
7) Have you had some trouble concentrating on things like reading the paper or watching TV?
8) Have you been moving or speaking slowly, or been very fidgety, so that other people could notice?
9) Have you thought that you d be better off dead or hurting yourself in some way? Based on your
responses today it s very likely that you could be suffering from some form of depression but only an
experienced health professional can tell for sure. You should make an appointment to see your GP as
soon as possible or call NHS 111. They will be able to help you and offer some form of treatment.

Stages and Strategies of Collective Bargaining
The ILO Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining Convention (No. 98), 1949 describes collective
bargaining as: Voluntary negotiation between employers or employers organizations and workers
organizations, with a view to the regulation of terms and conditions of employment by collective
agreements. Collective bargaining could also be defined as negotiations relating to terms of
employment and conditions of work between an employer, a group of employers or an employers
organization on the one hand, and representative workers organizations on the other, with a view to
reaching agreement. There are several essential features of collective bargaining, all of which cannot

The subsequent arguments and counter arguments can become heated and even acrimonious.
Negotiations can break down and resume and the matter remains inconclusive without any progress
for many days. Stage 3: Signaling This collective bargaining model rests on the worker s
representatives submitting proposals that they consider ideal, but willing to settle for less, and the
management willing to concede more than they publicly acknowledge. Sending signals across to the
other party, through subtle messages, change of tone, body language, and other cues reveal to the other
side that the proposal under discussion will meet with little resistance, can be accepted with
modifications, or have a low chance of acceptance. Signaling thereby reveals the resistance point to
the other party without making it explicit. Failure to send signals leads to both sides sticking to their
positions, causing impasse and a breakdown of negotiation and the dispute escalating to the next level
of industrial action. Stage 4: Proposal One of the important stages of collective bargaining
negotiations is one side making a proposal in a bid to end the argument and reach a settlement. Such
proposals are reconciliation of arguments made by either side, based on the signals received. Stage 5:
Packaging Good negotiators package proposals. Packaging involves making concessions, but placing
items that remain too tempting to resist along with some

For example, there is less mass in the Universe than predicted. While some have confidently expected
that the missing mass would be located, it has yet to be found. Could the next few years throw up a
completely new theory of how the Universe started? Robotics and artificial intelligence, commonly
known as AI, are two related fields of research which promise much. One of the best known schemes
is the Cog Project a humanoid robot that can act, talk and even look like a person. Hans Moravec, an
AI pioneer, believes that by 2030 robots will be able to visualise tasks and assess the consequences of
their actions. By 2040 robots should be able to reason at least as efficiently as people. Moravec even
envisages a world where robots will display superhuman reasoning . By 2050, emotions will be
commonplace because they will help machines to bond with their human masters. All this, however,
raises an intriguing question: will robots be so similar to us that they, too, will start wondering where
they came from? As well as showing awareness of the world, will they be aware of themselves? In
other words, will they be self conscious? By the middle of the next century, we may even begin to
wonder whether such advanced robots, with their enormous mental capacities and physical strength,
pose a threat to their human inventors. The cyborg the fusion of man and machine is another plausible
prospect in our lifetime. Doctors have already devised silicon chips

Environmental Pollution And Natural Resource Management
Our existence depends on how well we plans and implement policy through international cooperation.
As our population continue to increase in the twenty first, it will provide us with the clue about how
we make sustainable plans about our future generation. Our present generation continue to consume
more resources than what is presently in production, thus increasing consumption level which have
created water shortages, forest depletion for urbanization, more energy consumption, and food crisis,

Marketing Plan For Whole Foods Essay
Thirty six years ago John Mackey started a grocery store based on his vision of a business that
provides customers only natural foods. Based on a simple but effective business model, Whole Foods
has grown to a position of market leadership that is now being challenged by low cost organic sellers.
According to Feldman (as cited in Giammona, 2015) Whole Foods continues to face challenges from
competitors going after organic and natural foods more aggressively (para. 4). The company s
differentiation edge against lower cost competitors is fading as competitors have been successfully
emulating the Whole Foods experience (Sharma,2015).Furthermore, Wahba (2016) noted that the
company s Whole Paycheck reputation is hurting sales and driving customers away to other low
priced organic food competitors.
Whole Foods needs to reduce prices due to the new competitive landscape. Since the grocery industry
runs on very low profit margins, in order to reduce prices the company needs to reduce costs. Whole
Foods can leverage its size along with the company s value proposition of working with local farmers
to develop more efficient collaborative networks. The creation of partnerships in integrated networks
opens up opportunities to take advantage of complementary costs structures, the respective partner s
technical expertise, market knowledge and brand equity (reputation) (Swink, Melnyk, Cooper,
Hartley,2014, p.11). The purpose of this paper is to offer recommendations to

Narrative Essay About My Adventure
This past summer, I invited Kate to stay at my cottage. Every night after a late dinner we went out to
the point of the island and watched the boats go by while shouting at them. One night my mom called
to us, Guys, it s getting dark outside come back in . So we started running back and climbing up the
rocks when something ran right past our feet. What was that? Kate asked me. I really had no idea what
it was so I told her exactly that. The unknown creature turned out to be a vole, which we later named
Vole demort. The next day we looked for Vole demort, but we couldn t find him. That was when we
realised that he was nocturnal and probably only came out at night. So we devised a plan. We would
bring our shoes into my room, wait until everyone is asleep, then use the exit in my room to escape to
our adventure. We thought our plan was foolproof, but I forgot one small detail, my parents go to sleep
really late, and as for my brother, well he stays up all night watching youtube. The worst part about
this was that my room was right next to my brothers, so we shared a deck: meaning Kate and I had to
pass by his room to get to where we wanted. Eventually, I realised that my brother s curtains were
probably closed and even if they weren t, he was way too into his screen to notice us passing by. So at
about 3:30 in the morning, after Kate and I had both voiced our thoughts saying things along the lines
of, When should we go? Or Should we just go now? We decided to go. We geared up; we put on our
shoes, we pulled our sweaters over our heads, and got the most important things, our phones. As we
exited the cottage into the cool night we turned on the flashlights on our phones. First, we stayed just a
little bit outside my room, laid down and looked up at the stars, and Kate whispered, Wow, this is
actually so cool Yeah. It is I responded in an equally low tone. We whispered back and forth for a bit,
then I said, Let s go to the other side so we can see more of the sky without the cottage blocking it But
isn t your parents room on that side Yeah, it is, but we ll still have the living room between us. And
also we can go under the cottage so that we don t have to walk all the way around and flash

Immunohistochemistry
Within a Single Institution
Although there are many methods that help with diagnosing prostate cancer such as biomarkers and
needle core biopsy, it is the practice patterns of different pathologists that in the end determine the
diagnosis. This article explains how and why interobserver variability can affect the ability to
diagnose prostate cancer. Additionally, it determines the outliers for immunohistochemistry work up.
Immunohistochemistry is a method that can help aid the diagnosis of prostate needle core biopsy
specimens. This procedure looks at the small foci of prostatic adenocarcinomas and limits the over

The cases were placed into four categories: non neoplastic, high grade intraepithelial neoplasia,
atypical small acinar proliferation, or adenocarcinoma. The findings showed that there were either
lower rates of non neoplastic diagnoses with higher rate of high grade intraepithelial neoplasia, or vice
versa. The diagnosis of adenocarcinoma and atypical small acinar proliferation had no significant
variability between pathologists. The study suggests that institutions should analyze pathologists
practice patterns to determine if the pathologist is an outlier with errors in his/her diagnosis. This
would affect clinical management. Along with determining the pathologists diagnoses,
immunohistochemistry use was also observed. The rate of immunohistochemistry usage was lower
than other tertiary care centers. Also, immunohistochemistry was used greatly to determine
adenocarcinomas. The articles reports efficient use of IHC s in diagnosing prostate biopsy specimens

Amnesia Is A Critical Health Issue
Amnesia is a critical health issue that happens to all us in our lifetimes. Whether it is from sports, a
health condition that turn for the worst, or our body just slowly deteriorate and break apart. Scientists
and doctors collaborate to find a way to prevent amnesia or put it to a standstill. The sole reason why
Amnesia struck me is because I personally experience some small form of amnesia. When I was
younger, I got hit near my right eyebrow by a hockey puck. I lost consciousness for a minute and
woke up on the ground, not remembering what happened and to discovered my head is bleeding. I
often find myself forgetting a lot of things such as things that was recently spoken or discussed.
However, it is not just me that prompted me to learn and research about Amnesia. My father often
forget things as well. He is only in his 50 s and had multiple surgeries that made me wonder if his
surgeries has to do anything with it. Amnesia is a condition characterized by loss of memory for long
or short intervals of time. It may be caused by injury, shock, senility, severe illness, or mental disease.
Amnesia is when one often remembers factual information yet forgets the contextual information
related to the fact. For example, when, what, and with who when the fact was learned. Mainly, a
person with amnesia have no recollection on what just happened, what they just did, or how they got
to point A to point B. A prime example for Amnesia when it comes to movies is think of Jason Bourne,

Nothing Gold Can Stay By Robert Frost And The Powwow At...
The poems that have chosen to be analyzed are Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost and The
Powwow at the End of the World by Sherman Alexie. Both of these poems have a common theme that
has to do with nature. Although the poems come from authors of two different backgrounds, one is a
white American and the other is a Native American. The poems each use legends or myth to get a
specific point across. These poems are great examples of myth/legend use to drive its authors point
across, such as Nature s first green is gold, a reflection of youth. Nothing Gold Can Stay is a poem by
Robert Frost; it is a beautifully written poem that uses nature as a medium to discuss the importance of
youth or childhood. He uses his word specifically to create a definite meaning behind his word. The
beginning of his poem starts with, Nature s first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold. ; he uses the
myth of gold being the purest and most precious metal, to show that nature s first stage is precious as
well. However, these words have more than just their literal meaning, as Frost also alludes to youth.
This quote from the poem could be taken as: childhood is the best and purest part of life, but it is life s
shortest part. Gold is symbolized here as the purity of childhood and how precious it is. This entire
sentence is an impressive piece of writing, but the part that really makes it stand out is her hardest hue
to hold . The last part of the quote says nature s first green is the

Liking Is for Cowards. Go for What Hurts
We live in a world where the internet and social media plays a big role. There are constantly becoming
less and less physical contact, and fewer face to face relations. This is demonstrated by the fact that we
keep in touch with each other over Facebook, shopping takes place over the internet, we keep up with
our economy whit online banking and meet friends and lovers over online dating sites. In late modern
society, we are always available. But are we really missing out on a lot of important stuff, and is this
necessarily a bad thing? This is also the theme in Jonathan Franzen s essay, Liking is for Cowards. Go

He makes sure that it is interesting and fun for the young generation to read his essay, he is doing this
by the personal stories and fun comparisons, but also by using words and phenomena the young
readers can relate to, for an example he uses words as liking and friending , Liking, in general, is
commercial culture s substitute for loving (p.9, l. 83 85) phenomena s from facebook. On the other
hand Jonathan Franzen also uses some foreign words as carbon foodprint , anesthetized dream by
using these foreign words he makes sure to seem smart , so we get the feeling of a person who knows
what he is talking about, and on the other hand also a fun and interesting person. This is again
something that strengthens his ethos appeal, so it is easier for him to convince and engage the young
readers. If he was writing in a way with no humor, only foreign words, and maybe used a lot of
statistics facts, instead of personal stories, he would not engage the young readers. So by writing in
this very specific way, he knows that the youngster will find his essay fun and interesting. So as you
see Jonathan Franzen uses a lot of different methods to convince and engage the young readers.
Jonathan Franzen s main message is that, the young generation should spend more time in the real
world instead of the world of liking . He wants the young readers to understand

Politics On The World Wide Web
Politics on the World Wide Web
With the development of the world wide web, substantial opportunity has arisen for people around the
world, as easy and free access to an immediate audience of people is prevalent in the cyberspace. For
example, most people in modern society are not only attached to, but also dependent on the internet
for a number of reasons. These reasons may include things such as a resource for news or simply a
way to stay connected with friends through social media. People who possess the ingenuity to
effectively access this ever growing audience have unthinkable opportunity to accomplish simply
anything imaginable. This opportunity has not gone long without recognition in the political world, as

For example, in current campaigns, they have raised $402.4 million, which is a two percent increase
since 2000 ( News Releases ). In contrast, challengers of incumbents, and anyone other than an open
seat candidate, have taken a decrease in the finances that they are able to produce since 2000 ( News
Releases ). This pattern exists because of the name recognition and personal finances that incumbents
running for reelection already possess, and also due to the fact that open seat candidates do not have
the competition of an incumbent.
These fundraising statistics display the significant advantage that comes with being an incumbent, or
even an open seat candidate. Incumbents, in particular, possess a substantial asset over their opponents
known as the incumbency advantage. This advantage includes the privileges of name recognition,
money, and resources of office. To further understand the incumbency advantage, it is important to
examine some examples of these privileges. For instance, the resources of office allow incumbents to
make use of the franking privilege, which allows the free mailing of campaign interests; and
casework, which allows incumbents to request favors of congress. Incumbent s success in campaign
fundraising is certainly displayed after he or she has won reelection, given that most do in fact return
to office. As two men by the names of Joseph Cantor and David

Everything Bad Is Good For You By Steven Johnson
In Everything Bad Is Good For You, Steven Johnson discusses why and how he believes today s
popular culture is actually making us smarter, rather than dumbing us down. Johnson has his book
split into two different parts, focusing mainly on the first part of his book, he talks about the ways
people consume media and how it has become more complex and challenging over the years. The title
headings for each sub chapters are Video Games, Television, Internet, and Movies. Within each
subchapter he uses a vast number of examples from each section to support his argument. The biggest
part the first chapter is dedicated to video games. Johnston suggests that when video games were first
released that people thought they made us dumber and wasted our mind s skills. He uses the example
about how if video games had arrived before books, we would be more hesitant towards books. We
would be looking at the negative aspects of book reading and how they are isolating, under stimulating
and do not engage enough. Stating that we use books to test cognitive benefits attention, memory,
focus and following threads, Johnston goes into a detail about how video games uses all these skills
and more. He uses examples from Tetris, Pac Man, SimCity200 and even The Legend of Zelda.
Continuing his argument that video games engage us more that any other media our there at the
moment, he acknowledges how to reward system and the desire to explore in video games keep us
engaged. No other form of

The Resurgence Of Social Unrest
On August 9, 2014, the resurgence of social unrest similar to the 1960s civil rights movement began.
Michael Brown, a black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri, was shot and killed by Darren Wilson, a
white police officer. Initially, the shooting had minor media attention, but it slowly accumulated. As
more media outlets shed light on the topic, many people, especially those in the black community,
suspected that the shooting was racially charged. After the shooting of Michael Brown, more stories of
unarmed black people being killed by white officers surfaced, suggesting that the acts were not out of
self defense, but rather racial prejudice. The increasing rate of race related shootings suggests that
ignorance is the root of these officers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All five statements notably differed from Wilson s account.
Dorian Johnson, Brown s friend, was with him when Wilson stopped them near a local convenience
store. Johnson recounted that Wilson ordered him and Brown to walk on the sidewalk. Wilson
allegedly pulled Brown by the neck into his car, but Brown escaped Wilson s grip before running
away. Wilson stepped out of his car and shot at Brown resulting in Brown s infamous hands up, don t
shoot surrender (Eromosele, 5 Eyewitness Accounts of Michael Brown s Shooting ). Johnson s report
suggests that Wilson was not threatened by Mike Brown, and Michael tried to surrender to the officer.
Based on Johnson s account, Brown had not provoked Officer Wilson or caused any major
disturbances in order to be shot.
Tiffany Mitchell, Piaget Crenshaw, and Emmanuel Freeman retell similar narratives about the struggle
between Brown and Wilson. Mitchell observed the gunfire through her car window as she awaited the
arrival of Crenshaw. Crenshaw stood on her balcony as she witnessed Wilson s pursuit of Brown; her
crucial description included the detail that Brown s body was reversed from the direction he ran
because he attempted to inform Wilson that he was defenseless. Crenshaw s point about the direction
of Brown s body connects with Johnson s point that Brown faced the officer to surrender. Freeman
tweeted about the shots he overheard outside of his home. A

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution states Congress shall make no law respecting
an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of

Class In America By Gregory Mantsios Critical Analysis
In the first article titled Class in America by Gregory Mantsios the discussion on class affecting the
United States negatively is brought up. Gregory talks about the fact that people do not choose to be
poor but they are put into situations where they cannot move up in class. Due to the fact that class
creates an immense gap in communities, there are many issues linked to being categorized as the
lower class. In the article Gregory states that class affects more than lifestyle and material well being.
It has a significant impact on our physical and mental well being as well. CITE) The author connects
the idea that if you are in the lower class than you will also deal with other issues include your mental
and physical health declining. Alongside this idea, the author also states All Americans do not have an
equal opportunity to succeed, and class mobility in the United States is lower than that of the rest of
the industrialized world. (CITE) This goes along with the idea that once your born into a class,
breaking out of it is virtually impossible. The author is also making the point that in the United States
class is more problematic than other developed nations and because of this not everyone is given the
chance to break free from a poor lifestyle. In the second reading title Framing Class by Diana Kendall
the idea of class is described as the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Diana focuses on the idea
that the media shapes the way we view class. The media

  • 2. His Excellency- George Washington Book Review Essays His Excellency: George Washington Joseph Ellis sets out to make George Washington, the person we think of as an icon, into a real person. He wants to show us what makes him tick. He wants to turn the marble into the man. So many students today see George Washington as a memorial, a monument, a face on a dollar bill, and the man who could not lie when he cut down the cherry tree. He wants to show us the man George Washington was in his day. Ellis s method was to divide George Washington s life into three main parts: 1. Events that transpired during the French and Indian War 2. His part as general in the American Revolution 3. His actions as President of the United States When writing the biography of George ... His Excellency is divided into seven different chapters; 1) Interior Regions 2) The Strenuous Squire 3) First in War 4) Destiny s Child 5) Introspective Interlude 6) First in Peace, and 7) Testament. Each chapter in the book covers a part of George Washington s life. It begins with Washington as a 21 year old serving as a messenger in enemy terrain during the French/Indian war, which we have learned for our past test is also known as the seven year war. Instead of going to school like many men his age, George instead decided to fight in the war. All of the forces that were put under him were defeated and this upset and extremely frustrated him. He was forced to witness his own group of soldiers get massacred because of decisions he had made. The following chapters portray the sections of Washington life when he was a soldier, his days as a general, and his duty as the president. The book details the military plights Washington faced as a leader. Ellis says that Washington lost more battles than he won; indeed, he lost more battles than any victorious general in modern history. The War for Independence emerged as the most significant milestone in George Washington s life, a time in which he evolved into a grown man, a notorious politician, and a national icon. Ellis does not take us through each battle in detail, but describes the events that shaped Washington s life and made him a human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What better way to know oneself than through ones dreams and their interpretations. Take Joe for example. He dreamt that he was lying in bed crying. When his mother came in to see what was wrong they had sex. Initially Joe woke up, thinking he was in the middle of a nightmare. Now there are two choices for Joe. He could either feel weird, that he had feelings about his mother, or he could look at what symbols were in his dream. Joe decided to analyze his dream. Most Westerners, as opposed to Asians, are better able to distinguish between dream and reality. Psychologists like Sigmund Freud and Karl Jung are famous for their dream studies. Freud s most famous work, The Interpretation Of Dreams, argues that the unconscious drives and desires contributed to conscious behavior. Freud also felt that a dream was the fulfillment of a wish. Psychologists like Robert Van de Castle, Ph D., have concluded that children and adults dream in the same way. Though their dreams may be different, they also serve the same purpose (Short 30). Oona Short, author of Sweet and Not So Sweet Dreams from Working Mother, says that small children, mainly infants dream more often than adults do. While adults only spend about twenty percent of their nights in dream sleep, infants spend nearly half of all sleep time dreaming (30). Dreams are put in two categories: good dreams and nightmares. Between the ages of three and seven, one begins to develop good dreams (Short 30 1), which are simply characterized as what makes the individual happy. Once they have established these dreams, they last throughout one s life. In one year some have as many as 1000 dreams, but remember very few. For that reason many people claim to be nondreamers (Faraday 19). Remembering dreams can be difficult for some, but dreams are remembered like all other memory. People only recall the ... Theme Of The Interlopers And The Machine That Won The War The Interlopers and The Machine That Won The War are two different short stories that heavily push the themes of irony and suspense and although they may share these similarities I believe that they also have many differences. Throughout this essay I am going to be breaking down these two stories to find what sort of similarities and differences they contain. A similarity? They are both fictional stories. A difference? One takes place in a Sci fi and futuristic setting, while the other takes place in a more modern, or possibly older time frame. Although two stories can have a similar overall genre, they may have a different and more specific genre. A good example of this is the stories, The Interlopers and The Machine That Won The War. Both of these stories are works of fiction, none of the events that take place in either of them are real. On closer inspection we realize that although they are both fiction, they are different types of fiction. The Interlopers is a mystery. The story starts by explaining that in time past two neighboring families went to court over they strip of land between them, to find out which family owned it. When they court reached their decision and chose which family won, they losing family, frustrated that they didn t get the land, started a rivalry that would last generations. They mystery? Lit by candles, oil lamps, gas lamps, and open flame, the light put off by these flames was not very bright and also had the down fall of producing fumes, smoke, and ash. The electric light was little more than a novelty for the wealthy and only had small scale applications where only a few bulbs would be needed. (Flatow 11) If we think about how dependent on electricity we are today, it becomes difficult to imagine the world as we know it without it. Another advantage for Edison was that he decided to build his light bulb around an entire electrical system of his own design. He would design and produce generators to supply electricity with integrated fuses to regulate and control it. (Flatow 11) Once the system which would power his bulb was designed he began work on designing the bulb itself. The young inventor began to experiment with different filament materials and shapes. He soon discovered that no matter what he tried the filament would melt shortly after a current was run through it. To resolve this Edison had developed a thermal regulator to prevent the incandescing element of his lamp from melting says biographer and Edison scholar Paul Israel (Jones 55 56) What this meant was as the filament heated up, the regulator would turn the light off briefly to allow it to cool. This gave Edison the confidence to announce that he had made a breakthrough, though he had not perfected the type of material used to make the filament. He invited the press to witness his triumph. Disregarding that his bulbs did not last very long even after his thermal regulator was in place; Edison was still able to convince investors to back him. • 8. Essay On Racism In America For many young americans, it is simpler to see racism as an issue of the past not the present. They see the changing face of their culture as a positive one, working towards the embodiment of a colorblind society. Many of the effects of racism have not been eliminated though, but have been absorbed. This creates an environment where racial divides and oppression are able to thrive openly in America without being noticed. Millennials have become a group that prides itself of being beyond racism, but this is because we are unable to see the changing face of racial divides. Racism has endured because of its acceptance within American society, whether deliberately or undeliberately. Hindsight is twenty twenty and it makes it easier to clearly see issues of race within a historical context. When opening up an American history book it does not take long to find numerous examples of the mistreatment and oppression of minority groups in our society. Although it is important to learn about the many struggles of minority groups within the United States, it can work to turn the whole issue of racism into one only of the past. For example, it has become a common lesson learned that the end of the civil war signaled the end of racial divides between black and white. In many ways though, it signaled ... Anatomy Physiology Of The Special Senses Yin Ma AANT316 Paper 5 Anatomy/Physiology of the Special Senses (vision/auditory) Color Perception Visual processing in our brain cannot be done without actual vision. The anatomy of the eye is carefully arranged with all the parts that assist our vision in an optimal way. A layer of connective tissue called the sclera surrounds the eyeball. Underneath it is the choroid, which is rich in blood vessels that supply the eye. Attached to this layer is the lens by cililary muscles. The lens focus light to the retina and the amount of light entering is controlled by pupil dilation or constriction. Pupil dilation and constriction is regulated by the iris of the eye which consist of two layers of smooth muscle layers that contract or constrict to increase or decrease the diameter of the pupil respectively. The retina is the inner most layer of the eye. It the main site of photoreceptors that convert light energy into electrical energy where the information gets sent to the brain and is what we perceive as vision. (Marieb, 2014) Two types of photoreceptors can be found in the retina, the rods and cones. Rods are mainly responsible for scoptic vision thus mostly reactive in dim lighting. Cones are responsible for photopicvision, which provides color under bright light conditions. When it is dark out, only the rods are active so you see monochromatic vision. Instead of continuing the Freud s work with psychoanalysis, as many psychologists and philosophers did at the time, Piaget stayed closer to his teacher Pierre Janet s psychology (Vidal) Best known for his theory on stages of cognitive development, Piaget was a great innovator and set up the foundation for today s psychology and education. Working with children from the early 1920s to the late 1970s, Piaget discovered that there are four stages of mental development: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operations, and formal operations ( Jean Piaget ). Each stage is defined by what a child is or is not able to do, as well as specific milestone accomplishments. Beginning at the sensorimotor stage, the focus of cognitive development for children from birth to age 2 is to distinguish themselves from the objects around them. The main accomplishment of this stage is for the child to develop object constancy. Collective bargaining could also be defined as negotiations relating to terms of employment and conditions of work between an employer, a group of employers or an employers organization on the one hand, and representative workers organizations on the other, with a view to reaching agreement. Stage 3: Signaling This collective bargaining model rests on the worker s representatives submitting proposals that they consider ideal, but willing to settle for less, and the management willing to concede more than they publicly acknowledge. Sending signals across to the other party, through subtle messages, change of tone, body language, and other cues reveal to the other side that the proposal under discussion will meet with little resistance, can be accepted with modifications, or have a low chance of acceptance. Signaling thereby reveals the resistance point to the other party without making it explicit. Failure to send signals leads to both sides sticking to their positions, causing impasse and a breakdown of negotiation and the dispute escalating to the next level of industrial action. Stage 4: Proposal One of the important stages of collective bargaining negotiations is one side making a proposal in a bid to end the argument and reach a settlement. Such proposals are reconciliation of arguments made by either side, based on the signals received. Stage 5: Packaging Good negotiators package proposals. Based on a simple but effective business model, Whole Foods has grown to a position of market leadership that is now being challenged by low cost organic sellers. According to Feldman (as cited in Giammona, 2015) Whole Foods continues to face challenges from competitors going after organic and natural foods more aggressively (para. 4). The company s differentiation edge against lower cost competitors is fading as competitors have been successfully emulating the Whole Foods experience (Sharma,2015).Furthermore, Wahba (2016) noted that the company s Whole Paycheck reputation is hurting sales and driving customers away to other low priced organic food competitors. Whole Foods needs to reduce prices due to the new competitive landscape. Since the grocery industry runs on very low profit margins, in order to reduce prices the company needs to reduce costs. Whole Foods can leverage its size along with the company s value proposition of working with local farmers to develop more efficient collaborative networks. The creation of partnerships in integrated networks opens up opportunities to take advantage of complementary costs structures, the respective partner s technical expertise, market knowledge and brand equity (reputation) (Swink, Melnyk, Cooper, Hartley,2014, p.11). • 24. Narrative Essay About My Adventure This past summer, I invited Kate to stay at my cottage. Every night after a late dinner we went out to the point of the island and watched the boats go by while shouting at them. One night my mom called to us, Guys, it s getting dark outside come back in . So we started running back and climbing up the rocks when something ran right past our feet. What was that? Kate asked me. I really had no idea what it was so I told her exactly that. The unknown creature turned out to be a vole, which we later named Vole demort. The next day we looked for Vole demort, but we couldn t find him. That was when we realised that he was nocturnal and probably only came out at night. So we devised a plan. We would bring our shoes into my room, wait until everyone is asleep, then use the exit in my room to escape to our adventure. We thought our plan was foolproof, but I forgot one small detail, my parents go to sleep really late, and as for my brother, well he stays up all night watching youtube. The worst part about this was that my room was right next to my brothers, so we shared a deck: meaning Kate and I had to pass by his room to get to where we wanted. Eventually, I realised that my brother s curtains were probably closed and even if they weren t, he was way too into his screen to notice us passing by. So at about 3:30 in the morning, after Kate and I had both voiced our thoughts saying things along the lines of, When should we go? Or Should we just go now? We decided to go. We geared up; we put on our shoes, we pulled our sweaters over our heads, and got the most important things, our phones. As we exited the cottage into the cool night we turned on the flashlights on our phones. First, we stayed just a little bit outside my room, laid down and looked up at the stars, and Kate whispered, Wow, this is actually so cool Yeah. It is I responded in an equally low tone. We whispered back and forth for a bit, then I said, Let s go to the other side so we can see more of the sky without the cottage blocking it But isn t your parents room on that side Yeah, it is, but we ll still have the living room between us. Nothing Gold Can Stay is a poem by Robert Frost; it is a beautifully written poem that uses nature as a medium to discuss the importance of youth or childhood. He uses his word specifically to create a definite meaning behind his word. The beginning of his poem starts with, Nature s first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold. ; he uses the myth of gold being the purest and most precious metal, to show that nature s first stage is precious as well. However, these words have more than just their literal meaning, as Frost also alludes to youth. This quote from the poem could be taken as: childhood is the best and purest part of life, but it is life s shortest part. Gold is symbolized here as the purity of childhood and how precious it is. In contrast, challengers of incumbents, and anyone other than an open seat candidate, have taken a decrease in the finances that they are able to produce since 2000 ( News Releases ). This pattern exists because of the name recognition and personal finances that incumbents running for reelection already possess, and also due to the fact that open seat candidates do not have the competition of an incumbent. These fundraising statistics display the significant advantage that comes with being an incumbent, or even an open seat candidate. This advantage includes the privileges of name recognition, money, and resources of office. To further understand the incumbency advantage, it is important to examine some examples of these privileges. The title headings for each sub chapters are Video Games, Television, Internet, and Movies. Within each subchapter he uses a vast number of examples from each section to support his argument. He uses the example about how if video games had arrived before books, we would be more hesitant towards books. We would be looking at the negative aspects of book reading and how they are isolating, under stimulating and do not engage enough. Stating that we use books to test cognitive benefits attention, memory, focus and following threads, Johnston goes into a detail about how video games uses all these skills and more.
