WHAT IS PRECAST
•Precast concrete is a construction product produced by casting concrete in reusable mold or form.
• which is then cured in a controlled environment ,transported to the construction site and lifted
Into place.
•In contrast, standard concrete is poured into site specified forms and cured on site.
WHY USE PRECAST CONSTRUCTION
There are many benefits associated with the use of precast concrete
components.. Benefits available include:-
Quality
Durability
Dimensional accuracy
Tight tolerances
Speed of construction
Reduction of on site labour
Reduction of on site activity, noise, and disturbance
Reduction of on site waste
Low life cycle cost
Minimal maintenance
Non combustible
Fire resistance
Not subject to rot
Acoustic insulation
These impact on all parts providing benefits for the architect, engineer,
builder, developer, and owner. The benefits are many, including financial
gains from shorter construction times and earlier occupation.
PrecastConstructionisEfficientandfast
Precastconcrete is produced by casting concrete in reusable molds or
by using highly advanced machinery, then cured in acontrolled
environment, transported to the construction site and lifted into place.
BENEFITS OF PRECAST
Precast concrete, a highly efficient, practical method of
concrete construction makes beautiful buildings possible at a
cost that rivals even the most utilitarian industrial building.
Design-Build Efficiency
AestheticallyVersatile
Reduced Costs
Environment Resistant
Thermal Efficient
Low Maintenance
Sound Control
•Very rapid speed of erection
•Good quality control
•Entire building can be precast-walls,
floors,beams,etc.
•Rapid construction on site
•High quality because of the controlled
conditions in the factory
•Prestressing is easily done which can
reduce the size and number of the
structural members.
Advantages:
•Very heavy members
•Camber in beams and slabs
•Very small margin for error
•Connections may be difficult
•Somewhat limited building design flexibility
•Because panel size is limited, precast concrete can
not be used for two-way structural systems.
•Economics of scale demand regularly
shaped buildings.
•Need for repetition of forms will affect building design.
•Joints between panels are often expensive and
complicated.
•Skilled workmanship is required in the application of
the panel on site.
•Cranes are required to lift panels.
Disadvantages:-
There are some types
of precast construction methodology.
•Large Panel System
•Frame System
•Slab-Column System with Shear Wall
Conclusion:-
Traditional concrete building construction just can’t stand up to the
precast concrete advantages and strength, especially when looking at
large projects.
Precast concrete is specifically designed and constructed to have a
significantly high span-to-depth ratio that allows it to bear loads better,
reducing the need for additional columns and supports within the internal
structure of the building. Its lighter weight can also reduce the size of
needed structural material and overall foundational depth.
Precast concrete strength isn’t sacrificed by its lightweight construction,
though, which means it’ll stay secure and even be put under reduced
dead loads when properly installed. All of that weight savings paired with
high strength means buildings can use precast concrete to reach heights
of up to 80 stories.
