Symbolic Interactionism
Symbolic Interactionism sees the actor as more active in acquiring an identity. It claim to society has a
range of diverse social roles and identities (e.g. the roles of students and teachers). Every role has
certain behaviours, and certain rules. However, these roles can change. Symbolic Interactionism sees
identities as more flexible.
The issue is interactionists underestimate the range of human behaviours which are restricted. The fact
is not so ideal as what they image. Things can be changed, but not all the things can, or not all the
people can change certain things. What s more, they ignore the identity of structural reasons (e.g. the
unequal right between male and female) in shaping the society.
Marxism
Marxism points most societies are based on exploitation of some groups by others. Those who own
the mean of production (ruling class) exploit those who work for them, who lack the means to produce

One significant event within classical history that occurred within and had an impact on how Roman
society functioned was the slave revolt of Spartacus. This war was the third in a cycle of three named
the servile wars. These wars began away from Rome, in Sicily, but later directly threatened the senate
when Spartacus began the third servile war that lasted from 73 71BC and involved many slaves who
escaped their punishment to fight, although none were recorded to have survived after the final battle
where Spartacus died in battle.
Spartacus, translating to from the city of Sparta in Latin, was a Roman gladiator who began as a
Thracian, born among pastoral nomadic people according to Plutarch. This northern area of Greece
that holds the title of Spartacus birth place was believed to be one of Rome s earliest enemies.
Historians suspect his birthdate to be around that of 109BC and know his date of death to be 71BC.
This gives him a lifespan of around 37 years. Minimal information is documented prior to his rise to
fame. One of the first pieces discovered about Spartacus timeline was in 78BC when he was
incarcerated and forced to train as a gladiator. This enslavement was most likely due to either
deserting his cause or committing a crime and sold as a slave as a form of punishment, although often

The medical specialty I m most interested in pursuing is immunology. For as long as I can remember, I

start while relating it to international relations. While discussing the anarchical nature of the world, in
the realist argument, he addresses the fact that it is not likely that any one state would be able to gain
complete control of the world. However, if the entire world is being overtaken by a zombie plague it is
not outside the realm of possibility that survivors of various nations would come together and merge

The Scopes Trial induced a pivotal point in American history because it symbolizes the conflict
between science and theology, faith and reason, individual liberty, and majority rule. This trial was to
decide not only the fate of an evolution teacher, but also to decide if traditionalists or modernists
would rule American culture. An object of intense publicity, the trial was seen as a clash between
urban sophistication and rural fundamentalism.
On January 20, 1925, a Tennessee state senator named John A. Shelton proposed a bill to make the
teaching of evolution in the state s public schools a felony, or a criminal act. Fundamentalists had been
supporting and pushing the passage of laws such as this for years, because the teaching of evolution
and Darwinism contradicts the religious beliefs of creation in Christianity. Popular evangelist, Billy
Sunday, undertook an eighteen day crusade in Memphis in support of the prospective bill. Night after
night, Sunday s audiences grew until more than two hundred thousand people heard him preach
against the evils of evolution. The bill, known as the Butler Act, was officially passed on March 21,
1925, just 3 months after its proposal. Just as state legislators suspected, the ink had hardly dried on
the Butler Act before its first challenger emerged.

www.literotica.com contained many different types of erotic stories. However, some of the stories
involved women being kidnapped, abused physically and mentally, restrained, raped, and even forced

Compare and contrast how Wilfred Owen and Isobel Thrilling portray the horror, suffering and
inevitable disillusionment of war in their respective poems. The two poets that I am going to compare
and contrast in this essay both write from a different perspective of the war. They are writing about
different poems, Owen writes about the 1st world war and Thrilling the 2nd. Both poets are in a
different setting when they write these poems, Thrilling is back at home whereas Owen is in the
middle of the action, he is in the battlefield. This makes his poems more vivid and realistic. Owen was

The soldiers are described by Owen as hard working and faithful as they limped, blood shod. The war
is also stressed by the use of the hyperbole. Many metaphors are used in the poem for example rest is
used to signify the dead soldiers. The soldiers are portrayed as being dead and are so tired that they are
almost like they are drunk, stumbling with fatigue. In the next verse highlighting the immediacy of the
action speeds up the pace. GAS, GAS quick boys! The word boys in this sentence emphasises how
young and unprotected the soldiers were. It also shows that they are blind to what is happening, they
are inexperienced and therefore suffer. The word ecstasy is then used to highlight the chaos and
tempo. It is a contrast to the previous verse when they were trudging on the same routine. The army is
portrayed as smart and heroic but they are told to us but Owen as clumsy . The simile like floundering
in fire is used to highlight that they were not in control of what was happening, they were delirious.
The pace is then slowed down as one of the soldier s dies. He is suffocating and this shows us he is
totally helpless. We are at this point looking through the soldier s eyes and this emphasises that we are
helpless too. The slowing down is as if he is drowning. The gas is suffocating the soldier and it is if he
is drowning under the sea because it as described using the metaphor the green sea . The next verse
