Essay on To Pray or Not to Pray in Schools
To Pray or Not to Pray in Schools
The trend of taking God and moral teaching out of schools is a diabolical scheme, declared the
Reverend Billy Graham soon after the Engel versus Vitale and
Schempp verdict (Haas 30). The debate over the separation of church and state had been swirling
through courtrooms for years. The controversy over school prayer in the Engel versus Vitale case
started over a prayer recited in the New York public school system, known as the Regent s Prayer. A
group of three parents found the prayer unfair to their children and decided to take their case to court.
After hard work and tough battles the case came to the Supreme Court. On June 25, 1962 the court
made the decision to ban prayer from public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between 1960 s and 1990 s abortion has increased one thousand percent (2). There is a strong
correlation between the expulsion of school prayer and the rise in teen pregnancies and abortions. A
study by the National School Safety Center reported school deaths have occurred in all but eleven
states (Facts 1). Guns caused seventy seven percent of all violent deaths in schools (1). Two hundred
and thirty five school associated violent deaths occurred in the United States over the past eight years
(1). One in twelve high school students is threatened or injured with a weapon each year
These numbers are outrageous. School children obviously aren t being taught the difference between
right and wrong. As Minister Kerry Hill says, It seems like every time we have a school shooting or
major incident involving a school, the first thing everybody wants to do is hold a prayer vigil. It seems
to me that if you believe in the power of prayer post disaster, you should believe in it pre disaster,
(Reeves 3). Drug use in teenagers has increased over the years. Teens have turned to drugs because of
many reasons including lack of strong moral values and religious beliefs (Madigan 1). Jan Cook, a
mother of four, believes that when prayer was taken out of school guns started coming in. More and
more teens are getting pressured into taking drugs and without proper values they will continue to use

The British Colonies in the New World Essay
The British Colonies in the New World
Several historians often examine significant points in history in attempt to discover the reasons the
events occurred. The aforementioned statement applies to the American Revolution as countless
number of books has been written concerning the American colonies decision to declare independence
from England. Woody Holton and Bernard Bailyn are two historians who have probed the subject and
reached two separate decisions about the revolution. Focusing on the fears and threats the colonists
felt, Bailyn identifies England as the threatening force against the colonists, while Holton gears
towards those within the colonies.
Before examining the two authors views, exploring the terms liberty and ... Show more content on

Then there is power, a word that is richly connotative (Bailyn 56). Bailyn identifies the colonists
understanding of the term as the dominion of some men over others, the human control of human life:
ultimately force, compulsion (Bailyn 56). Power is not necessarily evil by its lonesome. However,
when power is coupled with the intentions of men, it becomes evil. The connection between the terms
is that liberty is a victim of power for the aggressiveness of power was the fact that its natural prey, its
necessary victim, was liberty, or law, or right (Bailyn 57). Therefore, the two could not be
intermingled. If one longed for liberty, he or she could not stand for power simultaneously for the
mere existence of power negates liberty.
The concepts of power and liberty are present in both Holton s Forced Founders and Bailyn s
Ideological Origins of the American Revolution. However, the terms are utilized in Bailyn s book and
implied in Holton s. In regards to Bailyn s interpretation, the colonists feared England s want for
power as it interfered with their interests. The colonists believed that England was corrupted due to
individual need for power. Because of the alleged corruption, the colonists right to liberty were
threatened for there existed a conflict of interest between the colonists and Britain. Mother England
was dominate, thus if she wanted power instead of liberty, she would have

The Impact Of The Space Race
Did you know that the Soviet Union was the first to launch something outside of Earth s orbit? In the
1960 s, the Soviet Union speed up the advancement of space science, faster than the United States
ever could, during the Space Race. First of all, they were the first to start the Space Race and
continually kept going onward to try new concepts and/or more concepts. On the other hand, the
Soviet Union were more focused on witnessing who s better. Finally, the Soviet Union were the ones
who sent multiple of inventions into space, but still had a bunch of trial and error and learned what
worked and what didn t work.
To begin with, the Space Race began all because of the Soviet Union and they kept pushing on to
create and carry out with their objectives, meanwhile the United States was doing nothing. In an
article, United States Soviet Cooperation during the Cold War nasa.gov. Erika Vick, May 28, 2008.

Union started it, they should earn a little credit for giving the space science a tremendous
advancement. For example, in an article by Global Security website, it says, When communists were

The Way I See It, Each City Is A Clean Slate
The way I see it, each city is a clean slate. A fresh start. I can go, wear whatever I want, have every

Water Pumps In California
Have you ever felt uncomfortable about not taking a shower for two or more days? Well, for many
Californians that rely on failing water pumps, many of them haven t taken a shower in over two to five
months. Three years of over pumping has caused the water supply in our underground aquifers to
slowly dry up because farmers are pumping more water out than can be replaced by the rain. Now,
because many towns are starting to lose their water due to their reliance on aquifer pumps, legislation
is being considered. But this decision to put a cap on those pumps has many farmers upset, for these
farmers believe that they should have an unlimited access to water. One farmer said that The city folk
are biting the hand that feeds them. But as many farmers believe that they should have unlimited
access to the pumps, many people in the cities that have no water believe that there should be ... Show

That means that the more than 40% of California is supplied by aquifers, that means that there is a lot
of water if it is able to support 40% of California. And if California did pass groundwater regulations,
that means that farmers would have to evenly distribute water or lose a lot of their crops and that
would be bad because then farmers would not produce as many crops, that means less revenue for
California. That is why so many farmers are against the groundwater regulations.
Even though all of these people are against the groundwater regulations, they have to think of the long
term effect of pumping groundwater. If we were to keep pumping groundwater, we would slowly
dwindle down our supply of groundwater, which is one of the reasons that California is such a good
place to farm and grow crops. And the more we pump out groundwater the more California sinks into
the gap left by the water that had been pumped out of the ground. That is why groundwater regulations
are important to the future of

heart pumping racing action where you can compete with other racers for the win.
Pole Position Raceway offers racing in Corona where you experience the thrill of professional race

Examples Of Conflict And Mediation
Conflict and Mediation An Introduction
We live during a time where conflict arises every day between people all over the world. What is of
interest is not what the conflict is about but rather, the way people handle the conflict. Mediation is
one of a number of alternative dispute resolution ( ADR ) mechanisms used to solve conflicts arising
between individuals. Mediation is a process whereby a neutral third party, the mediator, guides the
negotiation process in order to enable the parties to communicate and to voluntarily work towards
finding a resolution to their dispute in a sustainable manner.
Directive 2008/52/EC on certain Aspects of Mediation in Civil and Commercial Matters ( the
Directive ) provided a new momentum in Europe by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A non registered mediator is generally not subject to confidentiality or exemptions from the duty to
give evidence in court. Lawyers or other professionals, who act as mediators but are not registered,
would still be subject to the duty of confidentiality. The parties do not have a duty of confidentiality
but may contract an agreement thereof.
In line with article 7 of the Directive, in Austria, registered mediators may not be compelled to give
evidence in civil and commercial judicial proceedings or arbitration, regarding information arising out
of or in connection with a mediation process . However exceptions to the confidentiality principle
include instances where it is necessary for overriding considerations of public policy and where the
disclosure of the content of the mediation agreement is necessary in order to implement or enforce that
agreement . The testimony given by registered mediators in breach of this duty would be considered
inadmissible. Unlike non registered mediators, registered mediators may refuse to testify in criminal

There he learned a few of the Hmong people s customs, beliefs and traditions. Walt learned that you
do not pat Hmong people or their children on the head ever because they believe the soul dwells there.
Looking someone in the eye was considered rude; that is why everyone looked down instead of
looking Walt directly in the eye. Sue also advised Walt that Hmong people will smile or grin when

Goal conflicts are when people disagree about a preferred (ideal) outcome. Three examples of goal
conflicts found in the film Gran Torino are: 1. Walt s conflict with his son in that Walt was fine living
in the house alone after his wife Dorothy died and was secure in taking care of himself and his home.
Walt s son and his wife, on the other hand, felt that Walt would be better off in a retirement home with
amenities. 2. When Walt came to the rescue of Thao and his family as the gang members tried to drag
Thao off with them Walt came out and ran the gang members off his property with force. Thao s
family and the neighborhood considered Walt a hero for saving Thao from the gang members that

goal was to get them off his property. Each had different goals in the confrontation. 3. The priest was

Gulliver As A Misanthrope Essay
Misanthropic undercurrents have often been detected in Gulliver s Travels, usually unearthed and
expounded in connection to the fourth book of the travelogue. Through Gulliver, the fourth book
voices vehement misanthropy, with propounding the peaceful life of Houyhnhnms as an ideal model.
Gulliver is the resident misanthrope, detesting corrupted human nature and desiring to live as a
recluse. However, a close reading of the text provides us with a contradicting opinion, that of Swift s.
Though he seems to hate the follies and vices of mankind, he doesn t abandon his fellow humans,
rendering their cases hopeless. He denounces the incurable optimism of the Enlightenment and the
overemphasis on Reason, but also attempts to regain the dignity and ... Show more content on

There is a smooth generalisation of mankind, being disappointed with their endeavours and their very
existence. Humans are always ruled by their vices and any public good doesn t even seem remotely
possible. They can t be corrected by any role models even if it be the glorious Houyhnhnms, or by
worthwhile experiences. Gulliver seems to have willingly submitted to the horses and their supposedly
superior Reason . Even his discourse is culturally alien, spoken in the language of Houyhnhnms.
There is an indication of voluntary seclusion by the use of your species to refer to humans. As the
letter indicates, Gulliver seems to have given up any visionary scheme for correcting humankind s
follies and vices. Earlier, he had sought them to mend their natures by his travelogue s voiced morals,
if they were amenable to Reason. He had graciously given them six months to reform, but to no avail.
Humankind seemed to be inherently corrupted, and his ambitious project of reforming Yahoos was
perhaps absurd. Gulliver s hatred for humans, even for his own family is quite evident by the letter s
tenor. Moreover, such vehement misanthropy has to be traced out throughout the four books and how
it culminates in the fourth

The Reluctant Fundamentalist Analysis
Lover or Foe
In The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Moshin Hamid, The main character Changez experiences life
both as an American and as a Pakistani. The setting take place in a restaurant in Lahore and Changez
is talking to a stranger to our knowledge about his endeavors in America. Changez is in America, and
finds himself becoming more and more fond of the American lifestyle and even meets a girl named
Erica who he first thinks is the love of his life. Fast forwarding into the future Changez s job is not all
as great as he thinks and America in general is not the dream he thought he had been living, Changez
soon figures this out after his relationship with Erica becomes a total bust and his job isn t the amazing
job he thought it was, and he soon feels like a slave to America and the American ways of life. He
ends up returning to Lahore back home and becomes a professor at a university, and is an advocate to
disengagement from America to Lahore. Within this novel Hamid shapes the protagonist, Changez, as
someone who is sincerely both a lover and critic of America. Changez truly does love America, at
least in the beginning, because it was like his relationship with Erica: you first meet a person and you
like what you see, and you get to know that person and start developing feelings and enjoy being with
that person, like he did being in America, but when he started finding out bad things or things she was
doing he did not like, like he did when he found out America was bombing near his country. When
Changez found this out he felt in a sense betrayed. It doesn t mean that he doesn t love America
anymore, but he was simply unaware and now that he s aware he became a critic as well as a lover.
There are many people who travel to America under the impression that they will be Living the
American Dream and before see nothing but love for America. That is exactly what we seen happen
with Changez when he first came to America and we see his love for it grow. Changez at one point is
embarrassed to admit he is actually from Pakistan when he started working for a huge American
company by saying, To be reminded of this vast disparity was, for me, to be ashamed. But not on that
day. On that day, I did not think of

The Between Religion And Music Essay
Music and religion are often intertwined, whether it be religious chanting or hymns used to worship.
However, in the case of Islam, the relationship between religion and music is more strained, as Islamic
law strictly forbids listening to music. However, there is a very strong religious debate on what
constitutes music as diversion and what is acceptable to use in worship and religious purposes. There
are two concepts in Islam which are relevant to this conversation: sama and ghina. The ghina is the
simpler of the two, referring to music and performance associated with secular art music; this is
normally banished. Ghina is the only genre which is referred to as music . The sama, on the other
hand, is more complex. Sama, which literally means listening and thus, includes the music being
listened to (as well as dance as performed by mystic societies) is more complex. The abundance of
writings about the sama is chiefly due to the debate surrounding the legality of music and dance from
a legal, mystical, and religious perspective. Some elements of music have been categorized as
acceptable sama by religious authorities, including Koran cantillation, singing of unaccompanied
hymns, old Bedouin songs, and simple functional folk songs used to mark events in a community or
individual s life, thus considering them to be non music .
Since the beginning of Islam, there has been disagreement on what is to be considered sama, with
religious leaders stances ranging from

What Are The Negative Effects Of Humans Destroying The Earth
Imagine living in a desolate wasteland. In place of the forests that were once shelter to hundreds of
animals is now a depressing factory. Out of the smokestacks on top of the factory comes a thick black
smoke, making the once clear, blue skies dark and dreary. Many animals that once roamed the Earth
are now extinct, and generations yet to come will never know a world where they are alive. The
actions of humans are gradually killing the Earth and if humans continue to harm the Earth, it could
become a wasteland. The actions of humans have caused numerous negative effects on Earth,
including climate change, environmental degradation, and deforestation. One negative effect humans
have had on Earth is climate change. Over the years, Earth s temperature has been gradually
increasing, and if it continues to rise the outcome could be fatal for every living organism on Earth.
Humans, animals, and plants are all at risk. There are many factors that cause climate change one of
which is the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the processes in which radiation from Earth s
atmosphere warms it s surface to a higher temperature than it would be without the atmosphere.
Humans have strengthened the greenhouse effect by the combustion of fossil fuels. This is because the
combustion of fuels causes an excess of carbon dioxide to linger into the atmosphere. If the
temperature rises too much habitats may become destroyed and unsafe for life, resulting in species of
animals becoming

Merchant Of Venice Character Analysis
Portia in The Merchant Of Venice, has been considered as one of the most perfectly developed female
protagonist. The heiress of Belmont represents the nexus of the play, as the quest for her hand creates
a motive for Bassanio to borrow money which initiated the bond plot and the ring plot. Furthermore
she manipulates the trial and resolves the bond episode and the ring episode. Portia is introduced in
the play as being a wealthy heiress whom many suitors try to court. Her significance and characteristic
in the play can be seen in her genuine love, her graciousness and her witty yet playful traits. She
further represents the comparison between Belmont and Venice, herself and shylock and most
importantly, love and self interest, one of the key themes in the play. Critics liked to compare Portia
with Shylock and the comparison brings out the salient traits of her character. One of them stated that
while Portia stand for everything bright, generous, and noble while Shylock represents wickedness
and evil .
The language used in the play suggests that money is a source of power and desire. The penniless
Bassanio feels inferior to Portia who is intelligent, noble and refined. Portia s speech, unlike a woman
in the Elizabethan era, seems to be heavily loaded with financial expressions. Her language reveals
how comfortable she is in the masculine, world and her unwillingness to leave it. Her speech also
demonstrates her intelligence and eloquence and seems to mock the existing social norms. Indeed
Portia has shown to be far from obedient to patriarchy. Portia s father had left a clause in his will that
the suitor will pick the correct casket to in order to marry her. Although she couldn t break the clause,
her intelligence serves her well in her pursuits of Bassanio as she manipulates the test for her own
purpose. It reveals the casket choosing event itself was a gimmick and rather Portia was controlling
the entire situation according to her will and treating her suitors as mere puppets. On the other hand,
while men around the world are vying for her attention, she is apparently considers herself as superior
and better position to judge men s masculinity. However her intolerance and hypocrisy is suggestive

Diversification: since inefficiency in markets often exists, diversification through acquisition can be
achieved (in addition to diversification through securities). Eat or be eaten: especially in markets with
a lot of structural changes and diverging sizes of companies the question arises, whether one wants to
make an acquisition or be acquired. Nevertheless Shim and Siegel (2006; pp. 230) stated that mergers
have several disadvantages as well: Earnings per share: Should be greater or equal as after the merger,
which often is not the case. Market price per share: should be bigger or equal after the merger, which
often is not the case. The culture within the two companies can be totally different, making integration
difficult and costly. Need, in order to succeed, of a reduction of the labor force, which potentially can
cause reputational damage and lower employee morale for the new company. Numerous econometric
studies of bank scale and scope economies, efficiency and mergers in U.S. banking have been
conducted (Berger and Humphrey, 1994). Berger and Humphrey (1994) stated that economies of
scale, economies of scope and x efficiency are generally able to increase the efficiency of a company,
whereby x efficiency is much more important than scale and scope economies. The academic studies
have come to the result that economies of scales indeed allow average costs to fall with increases in

Pros And Cons Of The Powhatans
Prior to the arrival of the Europeans the Powhatan s were far less populated and were far less
developed then the Europeans. They were hunter gatherers, hunting in thick forests during winter or
neo lithic farmers who lived in villages and grew their own crops (such as maize, cotton, medicine and
corn) and lived of them during summer and spring. The Powhatan s believed that land was not to be
owned but belonged to everyone and anyone, on that land they built simple tent like houses that they
could easily move when they had to. They did not have brick houses and buildings that the Europeans
had. The Powhatan s used sticks, bows and arrows to hunt and not guns and weapons used by the
Spanish. In a civilised place a man would do most of the work but women were the ones who built
houses, fetched firewood and a lot more (Source 2) which is one of the many reasons why the
Europeans thought the Indians were not civilised. There were no real boundaries, tribes were separated
by rivers, swamps, mountains, and other natural landmarks (Source 13). The way they fought or killed
was brutal, ...two large stones were placed on the ground, Smith s head was forced upon them and a
warrior raised a club to smash in his brain (Source 4).
The European nation that came to the Powhatan territory were the Spanish people. A lot of things
brought them to the American territory, the Queen of England specifically was interested in the
possibility of the colonies providing gold, a passage to Asia and challenging Spain in a world totally
different from what they were used to ( the new world) (Source 1). The Spanish wanted to trade,
establish new townships and plantations (source 2). They basically wanted to take over the Powhatan
land and own it even if it was to be done by force. The Spanish invaded the Powhatan territory
because they believed that it would make them richer then what they already were, the routes, the
trade, the goods that the Native Americans had and the land of course. All of those things would help
boost the Europeans economy bringing not only money but even more development to the countries
there. They also wanted to settle and develop the place as their own homes.

of Herman Sweatt. Despite the victory, it was only a small step toward the complete integration of
public schools. (Morris)
Education
Due to the civil rights battle in Texas, the face of politics was reformed. An era of conservatism was
initiated within Texas politics. Previously, Democrats occupied all major state offices. By 1950 the
momentum shifted. Allan Shiver s governor election initiated the change. The change reached the
presidency. Eisenhower became only the second Republican president to win the state s Electoral
College at the time. (Morris) Lyndon B. Johnson became a figure of interest during the civil rights era.
He was considered to be a progressive, often considered to be reminiscent of Lincoln. (Orozco)
Following the untimely death of President John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson inherited office
becoming the 36th president of the United States. From January 1965 to April 1968 Johnson
implemented more legislation in regards to civil rights than any other president past or present.
(Guglielmo) The most notable laws passed by Johnson were enacted in 1957, 1960, and 1964.

Future The Matrix
THE REIVEW ABOUT THE FUTURE THE MATRIX
Directed by Larry Lana Wachowski and Andy Wachowski
This documentary provides an entertaining and compelling introduction to the new biology. It shows
us what the future of medicine and healthcare will look like. Abilities that conventional science still
treats as anomalies but that frontier scientists are taking seriously. It provides some of the theories that
are reshaping the study of biology, health, physiology, and medicine. It s an ambitious film that hits
the mark in introducing the general public to difficult subjects (medicine, physics, healing) in an
engaging and easy to understand way.
The film is captivating in its content, presentation and flow, working from personal stories of healing
that defies conventional explanation to mainstream medical and scientific knowledge to frontier
theories and explanations. It leads us on a journey into the body that many people may find both
surprising and changing, taking us beyond the cells to the bioenergetics and bio informational fields
that may actually regulate the body and its systems at its deepest, most fundamental level. ... Show

Gender Differences In Art Analysis
Two artworks, made of dissimilar mediums, may seem to be complete opposites, but when their
content is closely analyzed prove to be very comparable. Untitled #228, created by Cindy Sherman is
a seven foot tall photograph in which she depicts herself in the biblical story of Judith beheading
Holofernes, a subject commonly portrayed by Italian Baroque artists. The photograph could easily be
mistaken for an oil painting, displaying characteristics you may see in the female figures of a
Botticelli painting. The drapery in the background could be taken from the Grande Odalisque, a
painting that depicts a nude woman in a harem. These historical references create contrast between
new and old, and serve to communicate feminist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faith Ringgold makes a more obvious reference to the past with the explicit depiction of Da Vinci
paintings in the background and the traditional technique of oil painting. The five figures, all female,
are shown dancing, playing and ignoring the art that surrounds them. Essentially, they are ignoring the
traditional ideas of art and the white men that have been glorified within the art world that also
oppresses and ignores black women s voices. Similar to how Sherman altered the way the female was
depicted in a traditional style painting, Ringgold also countered these traditional ideas. She depicts the
five black women in a way that they normally wouldn t have been, she shows a story that didn t
happen, but she wish would have. The technique of quilting she uses also contradicts the European
tradition because it was never necessarily considered fine art and was associated with female craft.
The personal connection in Dancing at the Louvre is much deeper and obvious than in Untitled #228.
The medium reflects her African American heritage and the content, her journey through the
repressive world of

Essay on Summary of The Goal
Summary of The Goal
Alex Rogo is manager for one of UniCo s production plants. Recently Alex s plant, as well as the
others in his division, have been having major problems shipping orders on time. The company has
considered closing the plant and has given Alex only three months to make a significant improvement
or the plant will be closed and he as well as all of his employees will be without a job. At this point
everything seems to be crashing down around him while at a meeting, discussing the future of the

The bottlenecks are the areas (machines) in the plant that are constantly holding back the production
of the finished product. The philosophy behind this will become clear in a moment.
Philosophy of Ongoing Improvement Since the beginning of the industrial revolution manufacturing
organizations have followed the rules that idle time is lost time. That the only way to make money is
to keep everyone and everything operating at 100 percent. When in fact a plant that runs it s resources
at 100 percent all the time is actually a very inefficient plant. Most of the time the struggle to meet
efficiencies is taking the organization further away from it s goal. Excess production creates excess
inventories that in turn ties up money and slows down or impedes cash flows. The key to balancing
production is to search out those places in the plant that slows down all the processes behind it,
essentially a bottleneck. Obviously the bottleneck can t just be removed so the rest of the process must
be governed by the speed at which the bottlenecks can operate. Release of materials must be staggered
so that just as a batch is sent through the bottleneck another batch is waiting in front of it to be
processed. No other non bottleneck area can be allowed to operate faster than the bottlenecks can
handle otherwise the inventories will begin to climb again. In order

Pros And Cons Of Being A Mechanic
If you re a mechanic, I m sure I don t need to tell you that you are in one of the most high pressure
areas of the trades industry. I mean, tradespeople generally have pretty stressful jobs, but few have
more responsibility to their customers than a mechanic. When somebody leaves their car with you,
they are not just trusting you with their automobile. They re trusting you with their ability to get to
work and their freedom to see the world. Without their car, they may lose their livelihood, miss their
kid s soccer games, and be forced to rely on often late, always grimey public transportation. Because
your customers depend so much on their cars to lead a successful life, you owe it to them to use only

Analysis Of In The Next Room Or The Vibrator Play
The Ohio University Theater Division s production of In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play
explored the use of vibration therapy in the early 20th century as a way to cure hysteria. The
playwright Sarah Ruhl beautifully uses the intertwining lives lives of a doctor his patients and his wife
to examine female sexuality, male incompetence, science, marriage, and love. Most of the plot has to
do with female and male patients being treated for hysteria and what outcome the vibrator has on the
lives of the characters in medical and domestic ways. This play really highlights the personal
discovery of sexuality and of women beginning to achieve marital sex that isn t only for their husband
s pleasure. This production of the vibrator play used the contrast of a parlor and a doctor s laboratory
on a rotating set to help the audience understand the constant blend of science and society in a
historical setting.
The rotating set was a unique challenge for this production and while it was a bit distracting at times it
did add a lot to the quality of the production as a whole. There are many instances where the focus
should be on one of the rooms and not the other and to help achieve this very specific blocking is
implemented. For example, there is a scene in the first act where Mrs. Givings sits in the parlor and
hears Mrs. Daldry s moans for the first time as she is being treated in the laboratory. The focus of the
scene is on Mrs. Givings s reaction to the moaning and the flickering

Musical Theater Essay
Musical Theater Musical theater has always been something I looked at in a positive light because it
was somewhere I could be who I wanted to be, and I could play different people. There are many
reasons as to why I have chosen to go into theater as a career and they include the freedom to create
characters, the chance to meet new and exciting people, and the opportunity to get up on stage every
night and give a performance. The possibilities are endless as to what can happen in theater, and
sometimes people get lucky enough to live their dream. A theater actor performs in plays and other
types of live productions, such as skits, dinner theater, and cabaret shows. Sometimes actors go on

Benefits Of Insurance And Self Insured Employers
When it comes to explaining fully insured versus self insured employers it is important that we have
an accurate understanding of the definitions of and differences between the two. According to benefits
communication expert Jennifer Benz of Benz Communications in
San Francisco
If an employer sponsored plan is fully insured, the insurance company is ultimately responsible for the
health care costs and the employer pays premiums. If an employer sponsored plan is self insured, the
employer is ultimately responsible for the health care costs, and pays for all of those costs plus
administration fees.
There are different risks involved with both types of plans. Typically, smaller companies with fewer
employees opt for fully insured plans and larger companies with 5000 or more employees opt to be
self insured. According to the Employee Benefits Research Institute (EBRI) in 2008, 88 percent of
workers in firms with 3 199 employees were in fully insured plans and 89 percent of workers
employed in firms with 5000 or more employees were in self insured plans. (MacDonald, 2009) The
EBRI Fast Facts paper goes on to say overall for that same year 45 percent of workers in the health
insurance market share were covered by fully insured plans versus 55 percent for self insured plans.

The Lexical Decision Task Shows Evidence Towards Readiness
The Lexical Decision task shows evidence towards readiness to recall and semantic memories used in
the form of associations based on relatedness of words in the experiment. This experiment is
important because it attempts to understand how people develop, store, and use memories to their
advantage. Additionally, the Lexical Decision Task attempts to explain why how long term memory is
used and under what circumstances it is recovered. Memory is a crucial part of life for most people. It
is the way that we participate in our every day lives. Without memories, people would not be able to
build relationships with others, learn valuable survival and intellectual skills, or even retain that eating
and drinking water is how humans stay alive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From short term memory, there will be an encoding and retrieval process where long term memory
will be developed. There, some of the information is retained and some of it is lost over a passage of
time. The long term memory stage has the longest potential duration and can be recalled for years after
initial understanding. Evidence to support this model comes from an experiment published in the
Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior in 1966 by Murray Glanzer and Anita Cunitz. There
experiment showed the serial position effects known as primacy, words at the beginning of a list are
more easily recalled, and recency, words at the end of a list are more easily recalled. These result
supported Atkinson and Shiffrin s model by showing that long term memory and short term memory
were separate stages. The recency effect showed that words in short term memory were more easily
remembered. While the primacy effect showed that words in long term memory were more easily
remembered because they had been rehearsed (Glanzer and Cunitz, 1966). Because of the simplicity
of the modal model presented by Glanzer and Cunitz in 1966, there were several critiques that
provided doubt to the accuracy of the model. Two of these critiques were Alan Baddeley and Graham
Hitch, who believed they could build off of Glanzer and Cunitz s model to produce a stronger
illustration of short term memory (working memory). A significant addition to their model

I loved this essay. It was beautifully written, and the voice and reading of it was equally as majestic.
Each time I finished, I felt fuller, enriched. C.S. Peirce s four methods for arriving at beliefs are
tenacity, authority, a priori, and the scientific method. Tenacity reminded me of The Tao of Poo. This
method is the one I most respect. It has a sort of je ne sais quoi, that alludes to an idea that ignorance
is bliss, yet elite among the masses, and therefore perfected by those that use it for the betterment of
society. There is humility amidst this quality and it reveals a design of humanity in the power of
learning and the potential value of embracing many points of view, albeit the tenacity method seems to
not see the forest for the trees or budge from it s idealistic approach. By habit the tenacity method is
sort of like an ambivalent teenager. Authority is the ultimate battalion captain assessing matters from a
perspective of order and rigid reform and manufacturing a powerful sway over the masses. It seems to
be captivated in power trips and self centered control, totally oblivious to the bigger picture of reality

I found it refreshing to understand what Peirce meant by being tormented about succumbing to other s
propositions. Rebellion was the way in which I handled bullying authority figures in my life; if they
were unwilling or incapable of coping with my questioning and probing of whys , I rebelled. Because
I did not want to be micromanaged by someone that was not equipped to handle the direction I was
most interested in pursuing, I left home very young, on my own in a different country at 14 and paying

have to mention the property rights of the owner of the farm house, has he been adequately
compensated and dealt with before the start of this project. We just assume that the owner of the farm

Rosa Parks And Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Throughout the 1950 s and 1960 s, there were many acts, movements, and anger that inspired people
to fight for their rights and declare the United States as integrated and hate free. There were many
people that acted for their rights and for the rest of the people that were not able to speak up. Along
with these people that were able to speak publicly or privately, there were marches and boycotts.
Finally, there were violent acts which took place against colored citizens which left a negative impact
on America s past. The anger, passion, and drive for freedom so many citizens felt allowed the country
to surpass its negative views and practices to emerge a more open and more accepting place.
Of the most influential people during the civil rights movement, was Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. However, President Eisenhower is often overlooked as influential during this time but
he did pass many acts and give orders to help children trying to attend school safely while the face of
the nation was changing. Rosa Parks is well known for her refusal to give up her seat on the bus, but
she was not the only one. There were others who did the same deed but she just so happened to be
recognized for this, and it s a very positive thing she was. Without her actions and the recognition of

What Causes Lactose Intolerance
What Causes Lactose Deficiency And How It Can Be Diagnosed Lactose intolerance is considered to
be the inability to break a kind of natural sugar, which is referred to as lactose. It is commonly
established in dairy products including milk and yogurt. If a person is said to be lactose intolerant,
then his/her small intestine will stop making enough amount of lactase enzyme in order to digest or
break down the lactose. The undigested lactose will move towards the large intestine, when this
happens. The bacteria, which are usually available within the large intestine will get interact with
those undigested lactose and in turn, cause symptoms like gas, diarrhea and bloating. This condition
might also be regarded as lactase deficiency. In fact, lactose intolerance is widely seen in adults,
specifically those with African, Asian, Mediterranean Ancestry or Native American. According to
some recent studies, about 30 million American individuals of age 20 are lactose intolerant. Even
though the condition is not serious, yet it might be unpleasant. Actually, the signs of lactose
intolerance arise about 30 minutes to 2 hours after ingesting milk or else several other dairy products
with lactose. Individuals who are suffering from lactose intolerant should avoid consuming those
products or of course take medicines that contain the enzyme lactase before doing so. The symptoms
could range out of mild to severe. Typically, the severity relies on the quantity of lactose you have
consumed and also the amount of lactase, which the individual has actually made. ... Show more

The Representation Of Mental Illness
When thinking of mental illness, what image pops into your head? An unstable old lady in restraints
talking to herself? A pre teen harming themselves in a bathroom stall? Norman Bates? The Joker? All
these inaccurate examples stem from the medias representation of mental illness. This is an important
issue to address as, society has been fed these wrongful depictions for decades and it can be
challenging to overcome and shift these presentations (Uwujaren). The representation of mental ill
health in film, exploits mental illness especially when it is a negative depiction. This can have
detrimental effects to real individuals who suffer from mental illnesses (Uwujaren). Horror films in
particular spew a certain tone and mood; many times the villain suffers from mental illness, when this
occurs audiences immediately associate mental ill health with these characters (Goodwin204).
Stigmatization and stereotypes are conjured by the film industry that leave audiences believing all
mental ill people are like what they see in films. The film industry repeatedly uses mental illness to
portray negative characters, this can be detrimental in reality. On an ethical scale, the exploitation of
people for entertainment is wrong. Staggering amounts of people suffer from mental illness; while the
media presents these illnesses to generate money, real people suffer (Holliday). Some questions we
must ask are: What is a just or unjust depiction? How do we determine what is ethically

Use Of Diction In Corrie Ten Boom s The Hiding Place
The Life of a Jew A girl, born in Holland, had a life changing experience when Hitler sent troops to

Corrie Ten Boom s perspective of her journey that she took during World War II. The author uses
diction, syntax, imagery, and tone to elaborate and describe what is going on in the book, as well as it
gives personal thoughts to have a closer relationship with the reader. Diction can make a big
difference in the book. The different types diction that the author uses gives the book personality and
can really determine how the reader interprets the book. In the book, The Hiding Place, the author uses
diction very precisely throughout the whole book. The author writes Dear Jesus, I whispered as the
door slammed and her footsteps died away, how foolish of me to have called for human help when
You are here. (Ten Boom 145). The author uses the word slammed to elaborate on how badly the door
was shut, and in doing so the reader can conclude that the person that closed the door was angry at the
people that the door was being closed upon. This example of diction shows definitively how the
author brings emotion and feeling into the book. Syntax is what makes the reader think about why the

  • 2. Essay on To Pray or Not to Pray in Schools To Pray or Not to Pray in Schools The trend of taking God and moral teaching out of schools is a diabolical scheme, declared the Reverend Billy Graham soon after the Engel versus Vitale and Schempp verdict (Haas 30). The debate over the separation of church and state had been swirling through courtrooms for years. The controversy over school prayer in the Engel versus Vitale case started over a prayer recited in the New York public school system, known as the Regent s Prayer. A group of three parents found the prayer unfair to their children and decided to take their case to court. After hard work and tough battles the case came to the Supreme Court. On June 25, 1962 the court made the decision to ban prayer from public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Between 1960 s and 1990 s abortion has increased one thousand percent (2). There is a strong correlation between the expulsion of school prayer and the rise in teen pregnancies and abortions. A study by the National School Safety Center reported school deaths have occurred in all but eleven states (Facts 1). Guns caused seventy seven percent of all violent deaths in schools (1). Two hundred and thirty five school associated violent deaths occurred in the United States over the past eight years (1). One in twelve high school students is threatened or injured with a weapon each year These numbers are outrageous. School children obviously aren t being taught the difference between right and wrong. As Minister Kerry Hill says, It seems like every time we have a school shooting or major incident involving a school, the first thing everybody wants to do is hold a prayer vigil. It seems to me that if you believe in the power of prayer post disaster, you should believe in it pre disaster, (Reeves 3). Drug use in teenagers has increased over the years. Teens have turned to drugs because of many reasons including lack of strong moral values and religious beliefs (Madigan 1). Jan Cook, a mother of four, believes that when prayer was taken out of school guns started coming in. More and more teens are getting pressured into taking drugs and without proper values they will continue to use them more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The British Colonies in the New World Essay The British Colonies in the New World Several historians often examine significant points in history in attempt to discover the reasons the events occurred. The aforementioned statement applies to the American Revolution as countless number of books has been written concerning the American colonies decision to declare independence from England. Woody Holton and Bernard Bailyn are two historians who have probed the subject and reached two separate decisions about the revolution. Focusing on the fears and threats the colonists felt, Bailyn identifies England as the threatening force against the colonists, while Holton gears towards those within the colonies. Before examining the two authors views, exploring the terms liberty and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then there is power, a word that is richly connotative (Bailyn 56). Bailyn identifies the colonists understanding of the term as the dominion of some men over others, the human control of human life: ultimately force, compulsion (Bailyn 56). Power is not necessarily evil by its lonesome. However, when power is coupled with the intentions of men, it becomes evil. The connection between the terms is that liberty is a victim of power for the aggressiveness of power was the fact that its natural prey, its necessary victim, was liberty, or law, or right (Bailyn 57). Therefore, the two could not be intermingled. If one longed for liberty, he or she could not stand for power simultaneously for the mere existence of power negates liberty. The concepts of power and liberty are present in both Holton s Forced Founders and Bailyn s Ideological Origins of the American Revolution. However, the terms are utilized in Bailyn s book and implied in Holton s. In regards to Bailyn s interpretation, the colonists feared England s want for power as it interfered with their interests. The colonists believed that England was corrupted due to individual need for power. Because of the alleged corruption, the colonists right to liberty were threatened for there existed a conflict of interest between the colonists and Britain. Mother England was dominate, thus if she wanted power instead of liberty, she would have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 1960 s, the Soviet Union speed up the advancement of space science, faster than the United States ever could, during the Space Race. First of all, they were the first to start the Space Race and continually kept going onward to try new concepts and/or more concepts. On the other hand, the Soviet Union were more focused on witnessing who s better. Finally, the Soviet Union were the ones who sent multiple of inventions into space, but still had a bunch of trial and error and learned what worked and what didn t work. To begin with, the Space Race began all because of the Soviet Union and they kept pushing on to create and carry out with their objectives, meanwhile the United States was doing nothing. In an article, United States Soviet Cooperation during the Cold War nasa.gov. Erika Vick, May 28, 2008. In the late 1950 s they launched Sputnik I, which created the Space Race and it continued into the 1960 s, where the Soviet Union and the United States tried beating each other. If the Soviet Union started it, they should earn a little credit for giving the space science a tremendous advancement. There are literally no limits to what I can and will do with my life. Well, for many Californians that rely on failing water pumps, many of them haven t taken a shower in over two to five months. Three years of over pumping has caused the water supply in our underground aquifers to slowly dry up because farmers are pumping more water out than can be replaced by the rain. Now, because many towns are starting to lose their water due to their reliance on aquifer pumps, legislation is being considered. But this decision to put a cap on those pumps has many farmers upset, for these farmers believe that they should have an unlimited access to water. That means that the more than 40% of California is supplied by aquifers, that means that there is a lot of water if it is able to support 40% of California. And if California did pass groundwater regulations, that means that farmers would have to evenly distribute water or lose a lot of their crops and that would be bad because then farmers would not produce as many crops, that means less revenue for California. That is why so many farmers are against the groundwater regulations. Even though all of these people are against the groundwater regulations, they have to think of the long term effect of pumping groundwater. If we were to keep pumping groundwater, we would slowly dwindle down our supply of groundwater, which is one of the reasons that California is such a good place to farm and grow crops. And the more we pump out groundwater the more California sinks into the gap left by the water that had been pumped out of the ground. Mediation is one of a number of alternative dispute resolution ( ADR ) mechanisms used to solve conflicts arising between individuals. Mediation is a process whereby a neutral third party, the mediator, guides the negotiation process in order to enable the parties to communicate and to voluntarily work towards finding a resolution to their dispute in a sustainable manner. In line with article 7 of the Directive, in Austria, registered mediators may not be compelled to give evidence in civil and commercial judicial proceedings or arbitration, regarding information arising out of or in connection with a mediation process . However exceptions to the confidentiality principle include instances where it is necessary for overriding considerations of public policy and where the disclosure of the content of the mediation agreement is necessary in order to implement or enforce that agreement . Cultural conflict is inevitable as we live out our daily lives in the identities we have selected for ourselves, the identities relating to our ethnicity and in those identities others have selected for us. Walt learned that you do not pat Hmong people or their children on the head ever because they believe the soul dwells there. Sue also advised Walt that Hmong people will smile or grin when yelled at this was a cultural thing related to embarrassment or insecurity. Goal conflicts are when people disagree about a preferred (ideal) outcome. Three examples of goal conflicts found in the film Gran Torino are: 1. Walt s conflict with his son in that Walt was fine living in the house alone after his wife Dorothy died and was secure in taking care of himself and his home. Walt s son and his wife, on the other hand, felt that Walt would be better off in a retirement home with amenities. 2. Through Gulliver, the fourth book voices vehement misanthropy, with propounding the peaceful life of Houyhnhnms as an ideal model. Gulliver is the resident misanthrope, detesting corrupted human nature and desiring to live as a recluse. However, a close reading of the text provides us with a contradicting opinion, that of Swift s. Humans are always ruled by their vices and any public good doesn t even seem remotely possible. They can t be corrected by any role models even if it be the glorious Houyhnhnms, or by worthwhile experiences. Gulliver seems to have willingly submitted to the horses and their supposedly superior Reason . Even his discourse is culturally alien, spoken in the language of Houyhnhnms. There is an indication of voluntary seclusion by the use of your species to refer to humans. As the letter indicates, Gulliver seems to have given up any visionary scheme for correcting humankind s follies and vices. Earlier, he had sought them to mend their natures by his travelogue s voiced morals, if they were amenable to Reason. He had graciously given them six months to reform, but to no avail. Humankind seemed to be inherently corrupted, and his ambitious project of reforming Yahoos was perhaps absurd. Fast forwarding into the future Changez s job is not all as great as he thinks and America in general is not the dream he thought he had been living, Changez soon figures this out after his relationship with Erica becomes a total bust and his job isn t the amazing job he thought it was, and he soon feels like a slave to America and the American ways of life. He ends up returning to Lahore back home and becomes a professor at a university, and is an advocate to disengagement from America to Lahore. Within this novel Hamid shapes the protagonist, Changez, as someone who is sincerely both a lover and critic of America. Changez truly does love America, at least in the beginning, because it was like his relationship with Erica: you first meet a person and you like what you see, and you get to know that person and start developing feelings and enjoy being with that person, like he did being in America, but when he started finding out bad things or things she was doing he did not like, like he did when he found out America was bombing near his country. When Changez found this out he felt in a sense betrayed. It doesn t mean that he doesn t love America anymore, but he was simply unaware and now that he s aware he became a critic as well as a lover. There are many people who travel to America under the impression that they will be Living the American Dream and before see nothing but love for America. That is exactly what we seen happen with Changez when he first came to America and we see his love for it grow. Changez at one point is embarrassed to admit he is actually from Pakistan when he started working for a huge American company by saying, To be reminded of this vast disparity was, for me, to be ashamed. • 14. The Between Religion And Music Essay Music and religion are often intertwined, whether it be religious chanting or hymns used to worship. However, in the case of Islam, the relationship between religion and music is more strained, as Islamic law strictly forbids listening to music. However, there is a very strong religious debate on what constitutes music as diversion and what is acceptable to use in worship and religious purposes. There are two concepts in Islam which are relevant to this conversation: sama and ghina. The ghina is the simpler of the two, referring to music and performance associated with secular art music; this is normally banished. Ghina is the only genre which is referred to as music . The sama, on the other hand, is more complex. Sama, which literally means listening and thus, includes the music being listened to (as well as dance as performed by mystic societies) is more complex. The abundance of writings about the sama is chiefly due to the debate surrounding the legality of music and dance from a legal, mystical, and religious perspective. Some elements of music have been categorized as acceptable sama by religious authorities, including Koran cantillation, singing of unaccompanied hymns, old Bedouin songs, and simple functional folk songs used to mark events in a community or individual s life, thus considering them to be non music . Since the beginning of Islam, there has been disagreement on what is to be considered sama, with religious leaders stances ranging from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In place of the forests that were once shelter to hundreds of animals is now a depressing factory. Out of the smokestacks on top of the factory comes a thick black smoke, making the once clear, blue skies dark and dreary. Many animals that once roamed the Earth are now extinct, and generations yet to come will never know a world where they are alive. The actions of humans are gradually killing the Earth and if humans continue to harm the Earth, it could become a wasteland. The actions of humans have caused numerous negative effects on Earth, including climate change, environmental degradation, and deforestation. One negative effect humans have had on Earth is climate change. Over the years, Earth s temperature has been gradually increasing, and if it continues to rise the outcome could be fatal for every living organism on Earth. Humans, animals, and plants are all at risk. There are many factors that cause climate change one of which is the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the processes in which radiation from Earth s atmosphere warms it s surface to a higher temperature than it would be without the atmosphere. Humans have strengthened the greenhouse effect by the combustion of fossil fuels. This is because the combustion of fuels causes an excess of carbon dioxide to linger into the atmosphere. If the temperature rises too much habitats may become destroyed and unsafe for life, resulting in species of animals becoming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Merchant Of Venice Character Analysis Portia in The Merchant Of Venice, has been considered as one of the most perfectly developed female protagonist. The heiress of Belmont represents the nexus of the play, as the quest for her hand creates a motive for Bassanio to borrow money which initiated the bond plot and the ring plot. Furthermore she manipulates the trial and resolves the bond episode and the ring episode. Portia is introduced in the play as being a wealthy heiress whom many suitors try to court. Her significance and characteristic in the play can be seen in her genuine love, her graciousness and her witty yet playful traits. She further represents the comparison between Belmont and Venice, herself and shylock and most importantly, love and self interest, one of the key themes in the play. Critics liked to compare Portia with Shylock and the comparison brings out the salient traits of her character. One of them stated that while Portia stand for everything bright, generous, and noble while Shylock represents wickedness and evil . The language used in the play suggests that money is a source of power and desire. The penniless Bassanio feels inferior to Portia who is intelligent, noble and refined. Portia s speech, unlike a woman in the Elizabethan era, seems to be heavily loaded with financial expressions. Her language reveals how comfortable she is in the masculine, world and her unwillingness to leave it. Her speech also demonstrates her intelligence and eloquence and seems to mock the existing social norms. Indeed Portia has shown to be far from obedient to patriarchy. Portia s father had left a clause in his will that the suitor will pick the correct casket to in order to marry her. Although she couldn t break the clause, her intelligence serves her well in her pursuits of Bassanio as she manipulates the test for her own purpose. It reveals the casket choosing event itself was a gimmick and rather Portia was controlling the entire situation according to her will and treating her suitors as mere puppets. On the other hand, while men around the world are vying for her attention, she is apparently considers herself as superior and better position to judge men s masculinity. They were hunter gatherers, hunting in thick forests during winter or neo lithic farmers who lived in villages and grew their own crops (such as maize, cotton, medicine and corn) and lived of them during summer and spring. The Powhatan s believed that land was not to be owned but belonged to everyone and anyone, on that land they built simple tent like houses that they could easily move when they had to. They did not have brick houses and buildings that the Europeans had. The Powhatan s used sticks, bows and arrows to hunt and not guns and weapons used by the Spanish. In a civilised place a man would do most of the work but women were the ones who built houses, fetched firewood and a lot more (Source 2) which is one of the many reasons why the Europeans thought the Indians were not civilised. There were no real boundaries, tribes were separated by rivers, swamps, mountains, and other natural landmarks (Source 13). The way they fought or killed was brutal, ...two large stones were placed on the ground, Smith s head was forced upon them and a warrior raised a club to smash in his brain (Source 4). The European nation that came to the Powhatan territory were the Spanish people. A lot of things brought them to the American territory, the Queen of England specifically was interested in the possibility of the colonies providing gold, a passage to Asia and challenging Spain in a world totally different from what they were used to ( the new world) (Source 1). The Spanish wanted to trade, establish new townships and plantations (source 2). They basically wanted to take over the Powhatan land and own it even if it was to be done by force. The Spanish invaded the Powhatan territory because they believed that it would make them richer then what they already were, the routes, the trade, the goods that the Native Americans had and the land of course. The bottlenecks are the areas (machines) in the plant that are constantly holding back the production of the finished product. The philosophy behind this will become clear in a moment. Philosophy of Ongoing Improvement Since the beginning of the industrial revolution manufacturing organizations have followed the rules that idle time is lost time. That the only way to make money is to keep everyone and everything operating at 100 percent. When in fact a plant that runs it s resources at 100 percent all the time is actually a very inefficient plant. Most of the time the struggle to meet efficiencies is taking the organization further away from it s goal. Excess production creates excess inventories that in turn ties up money and slows down or impedes cash flows. The key to balancing production is to search out those places in the plant that slows down all the processes behind it, essentially a bottleneck. Obviously the bottleneck can t just be removed so the rest of the process must be governed by the speed at which the bottlenecks can operate. Release of materials must be staggered so that just as a batch is sent through the bottleneck another batch is waiting in front of it to be processed. No other non bottleneck area can be allowed to operate faster than the bottlenecks can handle otherwise the inventories will begin to climb again. In order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Analysis Of In The Next Room Or The Vibrator Play The Ohio University Theater Division s production of In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play explored the use of vibration therapy in the early 20th century as a way to cure hysteria. The playwright Sarah Ruhl beautifully uses the intertwining lives lives of a doctor his patients and his wife to examine female sexuality, male incompetence, science, marriage, and love. Most of the plot has to do with female and male patients being treated for hysteria and what outcome the vibrator has on the lives of the characters in medical and domestic ways. This play really highlights the personal discovery of sexuality and of women beginning to achieve marital sex that isn t only for their husband s pleasure. This production of the vibrator play used the contrast of a parlor and a doctor s laboratory on a rotating set to help the audience understand the constant blend of science and society in a historical setting. The rotating set was a unique challenge for this production and while it was a bit distracting at times it did add a lot to the quality of the production as a whole. There are many instances where the focus should be on one of the rooms and not the other and to help achieve this very specific blocking is implemented. For example, there is a scene in the first act where Mrs. Givings sits in the parlor and hears Mrs. Daldry s moans for the first time as she is being treated in the laboratory. If an employer sponsored plan is self insured, the employer is ultimately responsible for the health care costs, and pays for all of those costs plus administration fees. Additionally, the Lexical Decision Task attempts to explain why how long term memory is used and under what circumstances it is recovered. Memory is a crucial part of life for most people. There, some of the information is retained and some of it is lost over a passage of time. The long term memory stage has the longest potential duration and can be recalled for years after initial understanding. Evidence to support this model comes from an experiment published in the Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior in 1966 by Murray Glanzer and Anita Cunitz. There experiment showed the serial position effects known as primacy, words at the beginning of a list are more easily recalled, and recency, words at the end of a list are more easily recalled. These result supported Atkinson and Shiffrin s model by showing that long term memory and short term memory were separate stages. The recency effect showed that words in short term memory were more easily remembered. While the primacy effect showed that words in long term memory were more easily remembered because they had been rehearsed (Glanzer and Cunitz, 1966). Because of the simplicity of the modal model presented by Glanzer and Cunitz in 1966, there were several critiques that provided doubt to the accuracy of the model. Each time I finished, I felt fuller, enriched. C.S. Peirce s four methods for arriving at beliefs are tenacity, authority, a priori, and the scientific method. Tenacity reminded me of The Tao of Poo. This method is the one I most respect. It has a sort of je ne sais quoi, that alludes to an idea that ignorance is bliss, yet elite among the masses, and therefore perfected by those that use it for the betterment of society. There is humility amidst this quality and it reveals a design of humanity in the power of learning and the potential value of embracing many points of view, albeit the tenacity method seems to not see the forest for the trees or budge from it s idealistic approach. By habit the tenacity method is sort of like an ambivalent teenager. Rosa Parks And Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Throughout the 1950 s and 1960 s, there were many acts, movements, and anger that inspired people to fight for their rights and declare the United States as integrated and hate free. There were many people that acted for their rights and for the rest of the people that were not able to speak up. Along with these people that were able to speak publicly or privately, there were marches and boycotts. Finally, there were violent acts which took place against colored citizens which left a negative impact on America s past. The anger, passion, and drive for freedom so many citizens felt allowed the country to surpass its negative views and practices to emerge a more open and more accepting place. Of the most influential people during the civil rights movement, was Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. However, President Eisenhower is often overlooked as influential during this time but he did pass many acts and give orders to help children trying to attend school safely while the face of the nation was changing. Rosa Parks is well known for her refusal to give up her seat on the bus, but she was not the only one. There were others who did the same deed but she just so happened to be recognized for this, and it s a very positive thing she was. Without her actions and the recognition of other s there would not have been such a large reaction and response. Another familiar face was Martin Luther King Jr., he spoke for the public and addressed the issues that were corrupting our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A pre teen harming themselves in a bathroom stall? Norman Bates? The Joker? All these inaccurate examples stem from the medias representation of mental illness. This is an important issue to address as, society has been fed these wrongful depictions for decades and it can be challenging to overcome and shift these presentations (Uwujaren). The representation of mental ill health in film, exploits mental illness especially when it is a negative depiction. This can have detrimental effects to real individuals who suffer from mental illnesses (Uwujaren). Horror films in particular spew a certain tone and mood; many times the villain suffers from mental illness, when this occurs audiences immediately associate mental ill health with these characters (Goodwin204). Stigmatization and stereotypes are conjured by the film industry that leave audiences believing all mental ill people are like what they see in films. The film industry repeatedly uses mental illness to portray negative characters, this can be detrimental in reality. On an ethical scale, the exploitation of people for entertainment is wrong. Staggering amounts of people suffer from mental illness; while the media presents these illnesses to generate money, real people suffer (Holliday). Some questions we must ask are: What is a just or unjust depiction? How do we determine what is ethically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Diction can make a big difference in the book. The different types diction that the author uses gives the book personality and can really determine how the reader interprets the book. In the book, The Hiding Place, the author uses diction very precisely throughout the whole book. The author writes Dear Jesus, I whispered as the door slammed and her footsteps died away, how foolish of me to have called for human help when You are here. (Ten Boom 145). The author uses the word slammed to elaborate on how badly the door was shut, and in doing so the reader can conclude that the person that closed the door was angry at the people that the door was being closed upon. This example of diction shows definitively how the author brings emotion and feeling into the book. Syntax is what makes the reader think about why the author wrote something the way ...
