Public Policy Process
Principle place of domicile: Houston, Texas
I have resided only in the State of Texas.
The State of Texas is a diverse, multicultural state that I am proud to be a native of. The city of
Houston in itself is a great city that is full of diversity and where the job market is booming. As I
long to be back home, I am also happy to be at the University of Dayton
School of Law and cheerful for the new challenges that await.
My cultural background is Latin American. Many simply associate their race or ethnicity as a way to
associate themselves with others or to indicate to the government who they are. I cannot speak
enough of other ethnicities, but the Latin American culture is a rich, huge, diverse culture. Both my
parents are Latin American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A procedural system in which I have participated before was learning how Congress passes
public policy. I believe the procedural they have is not as strict as the civil procedural system, but
it in fact does a procedural to help create good thorough policies. I have not read the readings yet,
but some key features to Congress passing legislation is The Public Policy Process.
In this process, there are steps for policies to become implemented.
The steps are problem identification, policy formulation, policy adoption, policy implementation
and policy evaluation. A policy always begins with policy identification and so forth, but can go
right back to the first step again and again, if issues or questions arise over the policy in question.
The current remedies to the Public Policy Process aren t much, but a present remedy is abandoning
the policy and start on another policy. Thus, the Public Policy Process is not always efficient.
The fairness in this procedural process may seem democratic in Congress, but many political
players play in the Public Policy Process, like lobbyist and interest groups, which

Dependency Theory in Society
Dependency theory appeared in the 20th century 50`s. The main topics that are included in
dependency theory are historical materialism connected with other critical traditions, a partnership
between developed countries and developing countries, interaction between a core and a periphery.
Dependency theory mainly is used to talk about Western societies and Third World countries.
Foundation of the dependency theory is Marxism, also it prefigures post structuralism, and the
dependency theory stands for opposite opinion about economical growth and its affect, than
neoliberals do. The Dependency theory doesn t look at economical activities from positive side,
especially when it is done by world s richest countries. Richest countries economical activities
always affect poorer countries, especially they cause economical problems. The dependency theory
has evolved from two main sources, first is from the United States and other is from Latin America.
In the United States the dependency theory developed because of the socialist journal Monthly
Review, where neo Marxist thoughts were summarized and were published a publications about
different social organizations. Previously the dependency theory was called as theory of monopoly
capitalism, but later it was recalled as we know it now. The thought about the dependency theory
rose from observed stagnation in the Third World, where bourgeoisies were acting like they want
and did not take into account other opinions. If school of

The Legacy Of Isaac Newton
If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants Isaac Newton
(BrainyQuote).Sir Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1648 in Woolsthorpe by Colsterworth,
Lincolnshire, England, United Kingdom as a premature baby. During this era of the 17th century
Scientific Revolution, science was revolutionizing but lacked knowledge that was added by this
influential prominent figure. As a result, through this historical figure s trek, solutions to questions
that once were unimaginable were solved. Nicknamed Isaac Newton, Jr., he influenced people to
this day, impacting the world to the future, past, and present. Isaac Newton cemented a perennial
legacy after revolutionizing the understandings in Science, mathematics,... Show more content on

For instance, he viciously stated, Threatening my father and mother Smith to burn them and the
house over them. (Encyclopedia Britannica). Isaac s life began from a dwelling start of minute
survival possibilities and suffered through the insecurity of living without out his parents, climbing
the staircase one step at a time.
Subsequently, Newton, secluded from his parents who denied education, lived with a
grandmother who influenced learning, provided the basis of his intelligence. In 1654, Newton
was enrolled at The King s School, Grantam Grammar School at age 12 located in Grantham,
Lincolnshire. He lodged with a local apothecary, who helped build up his interest in chemistry
and the undeveloped medicine fields. Excelling in all his courses, he also erected an interest in
reading books, creating novel models, and chemistry. As a result, once he banged a peg into a
wall, marked hours around it, and saw its shadow move, telling time at amazing accuracy. In
addition, he generated a windmill operated by a mouse running on a treadmill. Though, Newton
had a complex personality, since at school he carved his name on every bench he sat on, including
some stone window ledges. As a fragile and gifted child he received criticism which would later
develop his new personality during his adulthood.
Afterwards, Hannah became widowed for the second time and dropped Newton out of school to

Venesta Vs Covenanta Analysis
We can t run away from life because we are that life; and that life exist and it is real, we can
experience it according to TANTRA. So TANTRA uses this and reverses this cycle. One
difference I find is that TANTRA suggests transformation of anything or any non thing that binds
/contract us. For example attachment to our body or ego believing that we are that body or that
we are that ego. So in TANTRA, the body and all the things , non things and the energies of life
are fully respected because they are considered manifestations of the Divine, and the Divine
resides within them, we are also that Divine. The body is not good or bad, it is something to be
transcended. On the other hand, VEDANTA suggests a direct experience of transcending
anything or any non thing as opposed to transformation because there is nothing to be
transformed. We are already that oneness, pure consciousness, Brahman, the Absolut. The
method of non dualistic VEDANTA is to negate all things or non things , which VEDANTA
calls unreal, until one sees nothing, but Brahman, or pure and undifferentiated consciousness. In
order to reach the affirmation of oneness, every trace of duality must be rigorously rejected; in
other words, VEDANTA asks us to renounce the world of concepts, names and forms. However,
this is very easy to say, but more difficult to practice. It is like seeing the political map of the
world, we can see many borders dividing the world in many different countries, but in reality, if
we observe the world out from space, we do not see those lines/divisions; we see a beautiful round
planet mostly blue from its higher content in water. Those divisions do not exist... Show more

The Silance Of Music In Alfred Hitchcock s Vrtigo
Vertigo is a 1958 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring James Stewart, Kim Novak, and
Barbara Bel Geddes. The film follows the acrophobic, retired San Francisco detective, John
Scottie Ferguson (Stewart) who is hired to trail his friend s wife, Madeleine (Novak), but falls
in love with her in the process. When Madeleine dies in what is deemed a suicide, John becomes
depressed and begins to obsess over Judy (Novak), who looks exactly like the Madeleine he
knew. After changing Judy s appearance to be a doppelganger of Madeleine, John comes to find
out that he had actually fallen in love with Judy pretending to be Madeleine, because she was
part of a plot to murder the real Madeleine. One aspect of the film that is interesting is the way
the balance of music and dialogue add to the suspense of the story. As stated in James Berardinelli
s review of Vertigo, There are numerous, lengthy passages that pass without dialogue (most of
these occur while John is trailing Madeleine), and Herrmann s music sustains Hitchcock s
carefully crafted tone. As well as to create these interesting scenes that rely almost entirely on
visuals to tell the story, the music has an important role of building the feeling of suspense,
complete with the typical thriller crescendos used to foreshadow a big event. This film has many
technical aspects that help it stand apart from others and the musical choices made are a clear
example of this. Another aspect of this film that is fantastic is the

Figurative Language In The Highwayman
Have you ever read a poem that just keeps you wonder the whole time.If not than you have never
read the poem The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. The poem is about a Highwayman who is
someone who would rob people. He is in love with the landlord s daughter Bess and he was
going to rob someone one night and when he came back they were going to run away together.
Someone told the soldier that the highway man would come back for bess because he was in
love with her. So the soldier took Bess tied her up and was going to make her watch her beloved
get killed, so she could warn him she shoot herself. Then the next day highwayman was shoot
when he was riding off. I think that poem is very strong because it tells a story and has a lot of
figurative language. I think that the poem is strong because it has a lot of figurative language. In
the poem the author uses repetition a couple different times. Repetition is when you repeat the

In the poem the author uses metaphor a couple different times to help make the poem stronger.
A metaphor is when you compare one thing to another without using like or as. The metaphors
in the poem bring out what the character looks like. Without the metaphors in the poem it would
be harder to imagine what the characters look like. It also helps you imagine what the scene
look like, it compares a lot of the scene in metaphors. One example of a metaphor in the poem
The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor . Another example of a metaphor in the

darkness . Those are just a few examples of metaphors in the poem. That is another way that a part

Three Aspects Of Comprehensive Assessment
There are three aspects to consider in my comprehensive assessment of Susan. First, the things
that happen to Susan such as the relationship with her children, her husband dying a year ago,
and the love for her cats. Secondly, the things that happen within Susan s environment such as
the accident she had, her church, and her friends. The third aspect is the transaction between the
two which I would have to figure out ways where the client can have both, a healthy and a happy
life. The primary concerns I have in Susan s case is that she is living alone in a small trailer with
seven cats. Susan is an older lady and cannot be alone all the time, soon she will need of someone
to be with her all the time. Also, her children do not live close by her, and that she does not have a
good relationship with her daughter. If Susan is removed from her cats, church, and friends, she
will have no reason to want to continue... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My primary option is to keep her with her cats, church, and friends. I would also get her to go to
a doctor; I would not like the fact that she is extremely frail and thin. In my assessment I would
check on her physical health, Susan is extremely frail and thin. I would find Susan is under
medical care or when she had her last medical exam. I will check what type of insurance she has
and what does it cover. I would check if she has any prescribed medication, if so how often she
takes them and how often she supposed to take them. For the drinking issues the daughter told me,
I would only take it to consideration, since there were no medical records of alcohol, I would not
be worry. I would not consider any mental issues since she was able to tell me what happen

among the retail industry. American Apparel headquarters is located in Los Angles, California

sweatshop free and has a strong belief of workers rights. However, American Apparel has had a
downfall in the retail industry losing revenue. This research of American Appeal will provide
feasible reasons why the company should enter China international market to improve on sales

formulation and implementation of a strong business strategy that can avoid restricted
environmental factors. This will determine the decision making of financial considerations,
promotion strategy, organizational structure, and the management style. The environmental
awareness is the starting point of environmental analysis. American Apparel has to take in
consideration that there are two environmental factors of the internal and external environments.
These factors affect the employees, customers, management, supply and demand. The environment
has a direct impact on American Apparel business. China is the largest market in the world, and
probably the hardest business environment. This narrative reflex China s immense diversity,

The Komsomol, The Communist Union Of Youth
The nature of the universe is that every society is greatly under the effect of politics, especially
during the revolution time in which Solzhenitsyn called those young people who participated as the
new generation . The truths behind those ideological lies of The Komsomol, the Communist Union
of Youth, are revealed implicitly through the story of Anatoly Pavlovich Vozdvizhensky, an
engineer and a professor, and Lyoshka Konoplyov, one of his least competent working class
student in the Strength of Materials course but later join the GPU on orders of the Komsomol.
First of all, Vozdvizhensky realized the problem of the authorities s policy of mass education that

This is carefully described in every major plot of the story. Even though Vozdvizhensky did not
want to give Konoplyov a pass while he knew nothing about the class, he still had to let Konoplyov
pass because he thought: if the authorities have such a strict policy and are fully aware of the
absurdities it creates, then why should I care more than they do? Moreover, when talking to his
daughter Lyolka about her school life, despite the fact that she disgusted the Komsomol, he tried to
persuade himself and his daughter to join the Komsomol to avoid any risks and to get accepted to
the institution she wanted by suggesting: this new generation of young people really does have
something, some truth that we can t fully understand. They certainly must have something . On the
other hand, the nature of human is best depicted after Vozdvizhensky got arrested. His interrogator
was not someone else but Konoplyov, his incompetent student. Konoplyov wanted to save him by
insisting Vozdvizhensky to make up anything. However, he could not because he did not want to
dishonor his 20 years of diligent, absorbing work or dishonor himself, his very soul . At the end,
when Konoplyov asked Vozdvizhensky to supply information they need about other engineers,
Vozdvizhensky refused to do that at first. But then,

Alternative Fuels Essay 8
Alternative Fuels This day in age, one of the world s main concerns is energy. Currently, we rely
on petroleum to run our cars, and household central heat, and electricity in our homes. Petroleum is
not only limited, but it is also dirtying up the world s air, and depleting the ozone layer as it is
burned. Alternative fuels are one of the worlds most talked about issues, and many solutions have
been brought forth, yet none of them have been sophisticatedly acted upon. Through the list of pros
and cons, one shall determine the importance of alternative fuels, and how bad the pros outweigh
the cons, thus forcing the reality of the matter that we need to start moving towards these alternate
forms of energy, and fuel. Despite the minor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would be quite a chunk out of one s pocket book, ranging in very high prices (Wikipedia).
Another non depleting energy vein that we are able to tap into is wind. Wind power is generated
when large, slow moving wind turbines are spun with the wind, thus causing a coil inside to
generate electricity. These are seen throughout the Great Plains, and many other flats. These are
generally not powerful enough, unless they are built in large numbers. Many times, around two
hundred are built in one area, to produce for the nearest city or town. Although these do produce
some good, usable energy, as with all things, they have some problems. Wind does not always
blow, and when the wind stops, so does the energy. Sun is not always shining, for solar energy, but
they have cells to store energy for nightfall. Wind Turbines are also a big concern for birds.
Migrating or locals, flying birds of all kinds are in danger from a twenty food diameter of
spinning death. This has been a concern of PETA and other animal protection agencies (CNN).
Another type of fuel is Biofuel. This type of energy is produced through different types of wastes.
Potato peels, whey, turkey guts, and frying oil are all types of wastes that can be converted into
biofuel. This is a relatively new scientific breakthrough in the hunt for a more efficient energy
source. The good thing about using biofuel is that it is clean, and can get rid of our wastes, while

Witchcraft Vs Religion
Witchcraft In this world there are many different types of religions. Furthermore, I identify as a
Christian. Meanwhile, my grandma is a JehovahВґs Witness, my uncle is Mormon, and I had an
aunt that was Catholic. There are so many beliefs and many people still are not educated about the
other side that they typically practice against. One that many people interpret the wrong way or

Naturalism is the view that there is no transcendent reality to such as God that can intervene in the

is he. Witchcrafts opposite, ВЁWe are the nature of the gods and fully realized man or women is
channel divinity.ВЁ So, Christianity and Witchcraft are basically polar opposites. With that being
said, it doesn t mean either one is true nor better. It is all about your mentality and the people you

ВЁNotice that the term practice is often used with the term witchcraft. What this tells us is that, for

Both religions have a long history and have made it to todayВґs world, that shows you that
Christianity and Witchcraft have been used for a long time and are still being practiced. ВЁIf
you go far enough back, all our ancestors practiced religions that had neither creeds or dogmas,

Explain What Is Wrong
Ashley Kelley Miss Roth H English pd. 4 24 March 2017 Is it Right? Is it Wrong? Morals and
values are the basis of all human decisions and knowledge. Every person s morals are different
from one another and can be used to define what is right and what is wrong in their own eyes.
Values are used as a personal translator that explains another person s behavior or beliefs to a
different individual. When people focus on both morals and values that have been set by them, they
see everything with a limited view, but take in more about what they learn. People create and set
personal values and morals based off of knowledge and understanding of the world and people

Experiences as children can shape people s brain and affect what is seen as right or wrong.
Values are acquired in childhood and manifest themselves in our campuses as permanent
perceptions that shape and influence the nature of our behaviors (Chmielewski n.p.). As a child,
that person is still developing and maturing both mentally and physically, so the values and
morals the child learns are applied to their lives and are held onto. In a world that is constantly
growing and developing, it is important for youths to hold onto morals taught to them in their
childhood (George 4). Adults also need to hold onto these morals to help youths to learn and
grasp their own personal morals. Values involve emotion, knowledge, thought, and ultimately
choice and response ( The Factors of Personality Traits n.p.). The knowledge that people gain is
gained from experience and is taken in over time. Interactions and experience can change and

Video On Underage Drinking
The video on underage drinking further highlighted information that I was already aware of.
Over the last several years, I have seen multiple news stories covering the Midwest s drinking
problem. According to Bustle.com, Lincoln was found to be one of the top ten drunkest cities in
America. This doesn t come as much of a shock to me. Drinking is part of Nebraska s culture.
Small Nebraska towns are full of drinkers; even minors are allowed to participate. Even though I
am from a small town, I didn t drinkuntil I was in college, and even then I did so in a responsible
manner. My family and friends never encouraged or participated in drinking, so I never really felt
the need to. However, the same can t be said for many of my high school peers.

Reflection On Ethics
Ethics is a blend of various concepts and fundamental principles of decorous human conduct. It
not only studies these various concepts and principles but also governs the values pertaining to
human rights or natural rights, the essential equality of all men and women across the globe, the
basic concern for health and safety, and also for the natural environment on the whole. Be it any
industry, business, any form of work place, it follows a certain code of conduct, which is legit
and undeniable. Apart from restricting the concept of Ethics only to industries and business, I
feel, ethics begins from within. Ethics are basically the rules or standards leading to the conduct
by which I live my life and make all my decisions. One of the best ways of thinking about ethics
is to take a quick look at your beliefs and then think about how your reactions would be when
those beliefs are challenged. Ethics definitely do not arise out of a mere vacuity, they are more like
a puzzle that is thrown together over time, that when complete makes up who we are and what we
believe. We tend to learn from those around us and the things happening around us.... Show more

Using Two Concrete Examples Of Publicly Traded Companies
At least once, at some point in life, almost everybody has had the dream to be an entrepreneur
one day. Everybody think it is just having money to invest, making good decisions with the
investments and the rest just come rolling downhill. If some part of this is true, it is also true
that making those good decisions takes a lot of knowledge and most of the time, a little bit of
luck. Unfortunately, the luck part there is really no subject that can explain it, but the
knowledge part; the knowledge part, or I should better say, some part of it, we are going to
analyze in these research by using two concrete examples of publicly traded companies. We aim
to compare and contrast the cost drivers and indirect costs of two companies of these
companies, as well as stablish a small comparison between these companies and the organization
I work for. Every person has heard the word cost; the term cost drivers, well, I don t think many
people has. Basically a cost driver is an activity that causes costs to change. Costs drivers has
expanded its ranks since the concept was defined. According to (add reference tittle here), [...] in
the past century, the root cause of indirect manufacturing costs has changed from a single cost
driver (such as direct labor hours) to several cost drivers. Due to sophisticated manufacturing and
increased demands from customers, direct labor is no longer the main cost driver of indirect
manufacturing overhead [...] In this time we are living, the cost drivers

How Would Fenris To Come Lonely
Fenris would never admit to getting lonely.
It happened rarely. He d return to his decrepit mansion after a long day of murdering various
groups of slavers, bandits, and other terrible people preying on those who can t defend themselves
with Hawke, and he d finally have time to himself. He d never admit it, but he hated it. After
spending the entire day with those people, only to come home and be reminded that he is truly

to find a way to calm himself, or he would break.
Tonight was one of these nights.
He hadn t been home two hours when he started feeling anxious. He paced, back and forth in his
bedroom, fidgeting with the gauntlets he hadn t bothered to remove yet. He knew he d never be
able to sleep in this state, and working on his reading and writing skills didn t seem to be much
of an option either. Slowly, he worked through his options in his head. He could get drunk, or go
for a walk, or work on fixing some of the more uncomfortable issues with the mansion... he hated
all of those ideas. He wanted to talk to someone, just for a little while. Just to remind himself that he

Installing Your Own Hair Extensions Essays
Having long, healthy hair could possibly be one of the envied genes amongst women. Many
women take supplements or undergo surgery to provide them with the added confidence of
having luxurious hair. Although, those methods have been proven to work, there are many other
less invasive methods available for obtaining beautiful hair. The use of hair extensions have
become a popular trend in today s society. Many celebrities, TV personalities and even politicians
have owned up to adding a few hair extensions here and there. Hair extensions can be used to add
length and volume to thin, short and receding hair. However, finding a beautician to install them

The most common method of creating a base for a whole head weave is to braid the hair in
cornrows from the front to the back, while leaving out a small section at the top to cover the
tracks. However, this method can not be done for a partial hair weave. To complete a partial sew in
you would need to braid the area of hair that will hold the extensions in a side to side pattern.
Step 2 After the base has been made, you will need to sew the remaining ends of the cornrow on to
it. Start by threading the needle. You would do this by inserting the thread through the eye of the
needle. Once you have that completed fold the thread in two and measure out approximately 18
inches. At the end, tie the two pieces together in a knot.
Step 3
Fold the end of the braid on top of the cornrow and sew it down using a basic stitch method. Once
you have reached the end of the braid you should make a knot to keep it from coming undone.
Step 4
Open the pack of hair extensions and comb out any knots or tangles pay special attention to any
rubber bands or pins used to keep the hair together.
Step 5
Next you will have to locate the weft on the hair extension. The weft is the sturdy area at the top of
the extension. This is where the hair has been looped together with thread. It resembles a seam.
Step 6
Once the weft has been located, you will then need to lay the extension on top of the cornrow to
measure the length of the braid. Once the length

The British East India Company
The British East India Company was an English and later (from 1707) British joint stock company
formed for pursuing trade with the East Indies but which ended up trading mainly with the Indian
subcontinent.
The East India Company traded mainly in cotton, silk, indigo dye, salt, saltpetre, tea and opium.
Shares of the company were owned by wealthy merchants and aristocrats. The government owned
no shares and had only indirect control. The Company eventually came to rule large areas of India
with its own private army, exercising military power and assuming administrative functions.
Company rule in India effectively began in 1757 after the Battle of Plassey and lasted until 1858

Servant Leadership By Robert K. Greenleaf
Servant leadership is something that counters common sense. It is not the image of a leader that
comes to mind when you think of someone who is a leader Servants are individuals that are
known for following and bowing down while leaders are individuals who exhibit power and
enforce rule. It is difficult to picture a leader also having characteristics of a servant. While it may
be difficult to picture, servant leadershipoffers a unique perspective to leadership and often times
is incredibly effective. Servant leadership is a type of leadership that focuses on the behaviors of
the leader. Northouse states, a servant leader must be attentive to the concerns of their followers,
empathize with them, and nurture them (2013). Servant leadership demands that the leader
empower his followers and help to build them up in order to reach their full potential. Servant
leadership helps enrich the lives of the individuals working for the company and ultimately
builds more caring organizations. Robert K. Greenleaf wrote an essay entitled The Servant As
Leader in 1970 where he said: The servant leader is servant first... It begins with the natural
feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead.
That person is sharply different from one who is leader first, perhaps because of the need to
assuage an unusual power drive or to acquire material possessions...The leader first and the servant
first are two extreme types. Between them there are

The Three Branches Of Congress
The United States government is comprised of three branches; executive, legislative and judicial.
Of these branches it is said that the President, under the executive branch, has the most power.
Congress as part of the legislative branch, however according to the text, American Government
Institutions and Policies by James Wilson, John Dilulio, and Meena Bose, to the Framers of the
Constitution, the bicameral (two chamber) Congress was the first branch. They expected Congress
to wield most of the national government s powers...and [have] the ultimate authority to declare
war (p. 303). However, as we know the commander in chief (the President) has the authority to
declare war, and can be considered as the central figure in American politics . Coincidentally, the
relationship between Congress and the President, expected by the Framers of the Constitution, is
seemingly different than what they originally had in mind. The dynamic of both entities have
shifted over the years; especially in reference to how the legislative branch operates. Most
contemporary Americans and many experts, however, think of Congress not as the first branch but
as the broken branch, unable to address the nation s most pressing domestic, economic, and
international problems in an effective way; unduly responsive to powerful organized special
interests; awash in nonstop campaign fundraising and other activities that many believe border on
political corruption; and unlikely to fix itself through real reforms (p.303). The power and authority
of the United Statesgovernmental branches has shifted since the creation of the... Show more

Marriott Case
Finding Marriott s WACC To calculate the WACC we need to identify the different factors
included in the WACC method, to be able to measure the opportunity cost for investments. First we
need to identify the debt, equity and the firm value, which is equity plus debt. Then we identify the
debt cost (rD), which is a pre tax cost, and then we need to identify the cost of equity (rE). As we
can observe in table A, the debt percentage in capital is 60 %, which implies that the equity is 40
%. By dividing the income taxes by the company s income before taxes, we find that t = 175,9
/ 398,9 = 0,44 To find the risk free rate, we chose to use the arithmetic average on long term U.S.

government rates to find the risk free rate (table B), which is 8,95%, and according to table A,
the spread for such an investment is 1,10%. rD for lodging division = 8,95% + 1,10% = 10,05%.
We think that the financing of the restaurant division is a bit different. Since we re told that
Marriott in a higher degree uses more short term debt to finance this division, we use only 10 year
interest rates, which, according to table B is 8,72%. The restaurant division has a significantly
higher spread, which is 1,80%. rD for restaurant division = 8,72% + 1,80% = 10,52%. These are
only the fixed part of the cost of debt. For the floating part of the debt we use one year bonds.
This means that the floating part of the cost of debt is for the lodging division 6,90% + 1,10% =
8,00%, and for the restaurant division it s 6,90% + 1,80% = 8,70%, due to the different spreads.
The lodging division has 50% fixed debt rate and 50 % floating rate, whilst the restaurant division
has 25% floating rate and 75% fixed rate. These numbers gives the following calculation for the
different costs of debt: Lodging cost of debt: 50% * 8,00% + 50% * 10,05% = 9,025% Restaurant
cost of debt: 75% * 8,70% + 25% * 10,52% = 10,065% These different divisions need a different
cost of debt because of the fact that assets in the restaurant and contracting services have shorter
useful lives. Marriott also

Thesis About Street Children
I.Introduction
Everyone deserves to have a home that they can live, a sufficient food and things that makes
them contented although other are not comfortable to their life. Street children are those who are
seen in the street and under the bridges. Orphanage is one of the best places for the street
children to live. In this institution they will guided and they will take care by the officials. Some
parents are not responsible to handle such things because of the way they live. Because of the
poverty a lot of parents are force to abandon their children. And the children are needed to work for
their daily needs.
II.PROBLEM STATEMENT
We can see a lot of children sleeping in the street. We have many orphanages here in the
Philippines but the majority of this is occupied of street children. Due to the poverty and parent
s lack of interest in taking good care of their children many are seen by the roads, under the
bridges and those chasing cars to ask for alms. Some are out of school others are driven in
pushing and using drugs. These reasons are some of the causes why some children are involved
with gambling and robbery. Early pregnancy is also one of the reasons why street children are
mounting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Commodity Sign
A commodity sign invests symbolic meaning in products or services as a signifier with an image
as signified. In recent times, consumer culture is driven by our desire for superfluous wants,
causing the production and consumption of commodity signs to become more specialised
according to the notion of capital. Capitalism is characterised by economies that are based on
open markets and the ethos of individuality over community. French Sociologist Pierre Bourdieu
(Distinction 1984) introduced the schema of subcultural capital, which confers status on its owner
in the eyes of the relevant beholder (Thorton, 2006: 100). Therefore people have the idea that they
can buy subcultural capital, as it is seen as self revealing, in order to impress people or become
someone else (Frith, 1996: 5). Thus advertisingwas developed as a strategy in generating demand in
a contemporary consumer culture. Mass marketing has split the unity of signifiers and signified
into a language of appearances and images of which we realise as either visible, physical
connections or indirect connotations to that which they represent.
This essay will be addressing ideologies of consumer fetishism and pseudo individuality through
examining the commodity signs found in the mass marketing and advertising of designer cosmetics,
particularly Chanel.
Commodity signs are assembled through advertisements, using already existent meanings and
turning them into modified meanings to suit their purpose. As consumers we

The Beatitudes Research Paper
Frankly, to cover each and every theological nugget found within the Beatitudes would be too great
of a task to fit into the constraints of this paper. That being said I will focus on those that are
extrapolated from the overall text versus those pulled from individuals. Nevertheless, I will make
brief mention of these at the end the sake of thoroughness.
The kingdom of heaven develops into a serious, if not the prominent, theme of the Sermon on the
Mount, and dare I say is probably the most protruding theological motif arising from it. Yet, more
specifically within the Beatitudes, we get a glimpse of a present, but not fulfilled kingdom of
heaven. First, in Matthew 4:17 Jesus proclaims, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand (italics

Continuing into the Beatitudes, one finds them bookended by the promise of theirs is the
kingdom of heaven (Matt. 5:3, 10; italics included for emphasis). In the Beatitudes, significance
arises from the use of the present tense verb is in Matthew 5:3, 10, and 12, and the future tense
verbs in Matthew 5:4 9. This indicates a present reality of the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 12:28),
while acknowledging the future fulfillment of this kingdom. Craig Blomberg notes, The kingdom
is not currently a geographical entity, but it manifests itself in space and time in the community of
[believers] and who begin to work out God s purposes on earth personally, socially, and
institutionally. Herein, the eschatological kingdom of heaven appears. Inaugurated eschatology
recognizes an already/not yet tension in which the sermon s ethic remains the ideal or goal for all
Christians in every age but which will never be fully realized until the consummation of the
kingdom at Christ s return. This has huge theological repercussions for how one

Allison Millic A Short Story
Its bizarre how one situation from your past can affect your future and every decision you make
for the rest of your life (Millican). Allison Millican, a strong young lady, has been through many
major life changing events growing up. No child would ever think of nor wish upon him/herself
the series of events she has been through. These events affected her state of mind plus the
choices she made for every important situation, for the rest of her life. This childhood trauma
led to depression as well as anxiety, however, it all started the day her parents finalized their
divorce. As a very young child, Allison lived in a strict, conservative home with morals and a
firm belief that once married, always married; divorce is simply giving up and not giving your all.
She lived in a home that went to church every sunday,in addition stayed to themselves about
personal conflicts like any conservative family would ordinarily do. As time went on those morals
started to fade. What was once a happy marriageturned into an emotional, high strung marriage.
Allison, being so young, didn t remember much of what happened, nevertheless she knew that
matters were changing. Ironically, the conservative family with morals divided, leading to the start
of a brand new life Allison could never be prepared for.
After the divorce, Allison s living situation went back and forth like a game of tug of war. One
week she stayed with her father then the next she was with her mother. As one can imagine, it was
very hard on her having to transition every week, not to mention the new habit her mother picked
up. As a result, he had totally forgotten about her own daughter, also all of her attention turned
towards something else. Allison felt as if she couldn t go to her father because of his bussiness
with a new girlfriend along with his work schedule. Her mother s new habit involved drinking and
drinking all the time to cope with the hard, overwhelming separation. Sometimes what starts as a
bad habit can become a very big problem (Foundation). When her mother would come home after
work she would drink alcohol then sleep every opportunity she could. Allison was slowly losing her

Greco-Roman Wrestling
Wrestling is a fighting sport involving techniques such as clinch fighting (stand up fighting, close

of wrestling go back 15,000 years through cave drawings in France. Early European settlers in
America brought a strong wrestling tradition with them if they came from England. For most
people the sport is all about being stronger, quicker and better than everyone. Greco Roman

The Role Of Cognition When Participating At The Communion...
This paper will critically discuss the role of cognition when participating at the communion table.
It will explore the question, does understanding at a cognitive level play a crucial role in
receiving what the sacraments are conveying? Role of Cognition. Cognition is a term referring to
how a person understands and acts on different issues. These skills are transformed into signals
that our brains can understand, everything from something very simple to something extremely
difficult. They are to do with the means of how we pay attention, listen, remember, work out,
learn, and even believe. At every age people are curious and have a desire to seek and uncover
facts. Even though all people are seeking for something today spirituality... Show more content on

The Lord Supper was established to help us remember what Christ has done for our salvation.
All who are going to partake of the Lord s supper should examine themselves first and deal with
any problems and difficulties that they have in their hearts and life. The celebration must be set
apart from the pagan festival, and each person must be conscious of what happening as they
partake. The Lord supper is an unsophisticated ceremony, where believers can meet and partake of
bread and wine, it is a sacred act of thanksgiving communion and remembrance. Furthermore, it is a
sacrament that should be received repeatedly where continuing fellowship with God and his people
can be obtained. As we participate in the Lord s supper then the past becomes the present and we
are sharing in the once and for all sacrifice of Calvary but that is not all it is also predicting the
future fulfilment of Christ returning. The significance of cognitive awareness in connection with
receiving what the sacrament is conveying can be seen in the numerous ways that Christians have
understood the rituals. Throughout history, between the different Christians denominations there
has been much dispute over the different understandings of the Lord s supper. The two statements
that have caused major problems are in Luke 22:17 22 where Christ declared to the Apostles Do
this in Remembrance of Me , and in Mark 14:26 29 where Christ states that his body is the

Mononucleosis Essay
Introduction
Mononucleosis is a viral disease that affects those usually between the age of ten and thirty five,
although a person at any age can get the disease. This disease found in mainly adolescents and
adults seems to only occur in those who escaped the Epstein Barr virus infection in childhood. It
is also known as Glandular Fever, because it affects the lymph nodes in the neck, arm pits and
groin. It can last anywhere from one to two weeks to six to eight weeks, some people suffer from
mononucleosis for months at a time, but as an individual it depends on your personal recuperation
time. Recuperation is a very slow process, which demands a lot of sleep and rest. Being sick for a

When diagnosed with Mononucleosis, the doctor usually informs you to avoid any sports, except
swimming, because if you receive a blow to your spleen, it could rupture, requiring surgery.
Enlargement of the spleen occurs in 2 out of every 3 cases and is not uncommon. Signs of a
ruptured spleen include; pain in the left upper abdomen, feeling light headed, feeling like your heart
is beating fast and hard, bleeding more easily than usual and having breathing trouble.
The inflammation of the liver is detected by the blood tests taken and can be reduced by drinking
lots and lots of fluids, to flush out the toxins. A patient can detect liver inflammation by nausea,
vomiting, reduced appetite and jaundice. It is also possible to obtain rash like symptoms, similar to
those of measles or scarlet fever. They can appear all over the body and are very itchy, much like
hives. A cortisone cream applied in small amounts to the small bumps can reduce the itch and
swelling. Severe scratching of the bumps can leave scars.
In about 2% of all cases, pneumonia is present. Encephalitis, meningitis or peripheral neuritis can
occur, but is usually uncommon. In some cases, the upper eyelids can swell, which is a common
finding among mono patients. In some cases, the urine may contain blood, but those are very rare

Analysis Of Jack Londons For Build A Fire And His Wise...
In Jack Londons To Build A Fire, a stubborn man with no imagination and his wise dog set out on
the Yukon trail seeking out his camp in hopes to return and meet up with the boys. Being a
chechaquo, a new comer to the land (Dictionary.com, 2015), this was his first Winter. It was a
clear day and yet there seemed an intangible pall over the face of things, a subtle gloom that made
the day dark, and that was due to the absence of sun. The face did not worry the man. (London,
629). The newcomer was entering Winter temperatures in which he knew nothing of, reaching
seventy five degrees below zero and would soon be in a battle of man verses nature. But all this the
mysterious, far reaching hair line trail, the absence of sun from the sky, the tremendous cold, and
the strangeness and weirdness of it all made impression on the man. (London, 629). As the man
travels on through the freezingtemperatures he is remind of advice from and old wise man, he
had been warned of traveling alone and the dangers that could come with someone making such
decisions. The traveler was hopeful of making it back to camp by six o clock, and an hour into his
travels he is ready to stop and eat his lunch with pride in his traveling progress. However, an hour
into his travels the arrogant man was more concerned with chewing his tobacco, than thinking of
potential dangers despite his warnings, so he stopped for lunch, never sharing with his only
traveling companion, his loyal dog.

Nt1330 Unit 7 Igm
Based on the comparison Table 1, Table 2 and Table 3, we identified following set of categories
on which we would like to evaluate the above tools and computing paradigm in subsequent sub
sections: 4.1.1. Distributed Computation, Scalability and Parallel Computation As we can see
from the comparison tables, all computing tools provide these facilities. Hadoop distributes data
as well as computing via transferring it to various storage nodes. Also, it linearly scales by
adding a number of nodes to computing clusters but shows a single point failure. Cloudera
Impala also quits execution of the entire query if a single part of it stops. IBM Netezza and
Apache Giraph whereas does not have single point failure. In terms of parallel computation IBM
Netezza is fastest due to hardware built parallelism. 4.1.2. Real Time Query, Query Speed,
Latency Time The Hadoop employs MapReduce paradigm of computing which targets batch job
processing. It does not directly support the real time query execution i.e OLTP. Hadoop can be
integrated with Apache Hive that supports HiveQL query language which supports query firing,
but still not provide OLTP tasks (such as updates and deletion at row level) and has late response
time (in minutes) due to absence of pipeline... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, since Clouera and Giraph perform in memory computation they do not require data input and
data output that saves a lot of processing cost involved in I/O. None of the tools require the ETL
(Extract, Transform and Load) service, thereby they save a major cost involved in data
preprocessing. Hadoop is highly fault tolerant that is achieved by maintaining multiple replicas of
data sets, and its architecture that facilitates dealing with frequent hardware malfunctions. Giraph
achieves fault tolerance using barrier checkpoints.

Research Paper On Hopf Bifurcation
Abstract. In this paper, a classical model describing a food web in a chemostat involving three
species competing for non reproducing, growth rate limiting nutrient in which one of the
competitors predates on one of the other competitors is considered. Quantitative analyses of non
negativity and boundedness of solution trajectories, dissipativity, and behavior around equilibria,
global stability and persistence of the model equations are analyzed. We present the global stability
of equilibria by constructing a Lyapunov function. Hopf bifurcation theory is applied. Keywords:

Essay on Atonement by Ian McEwan
Atonement by Ian McEwan
Atonement comes from an at onement , the idea being that penance and suffering allows us to be at
one with God or ourselves. The central theme of atonement is that of seeking forgiveness. This is
manifested through the characters and their actions. In the book Atonement by
Ian McEwan, the act carried out by Briony sets of a chain of events, for which either atonement is
sought or society seeks atonement from.
Briony s character is described as being compulsively orderly,
She was one of those children possessed by a desire to have the world just so.
Briony s craving to manipulate and control, and also her perception of how Robbie spoilt her play,
leads her to committing her crime. Her

never considers the possibility of role reversal, when
Robbie would have the power or redemption over her.
Robbie was condemned and sent to prison. He was forced to atone by society, by being refused
certain books and having his letters censored. He was only permitted his mother to visit after
being diagnosed as morbidly over sexed and at risk of being inflamed .
Briony only starts to realise her crime as she grows older. In a letter to Robbie, Cecelia paraphrases
a letter from Briony,
She s beginning to get the full grasp of what she did I think she wants to recant.
When Briony goes to visit Cecelia, the reader comprehends that Briony doesn t want to withdraw
her statement for Robbie s benefit but instead to find favour with her sister and to reassemble her
previous family life:
I don t expect you to forgive me.
Don t worry about that , she said soothingly, Briony flinched as her hopes lifted unreally. Don t
worry , her sister resumed. I won t ever forgive you.
The climax to the scene comes when Robbie makes his presence known to
Briony. Robbie and Cecelia tell Briony that she has to tell everyone what she did. She agrees then
says,
I m very sorry.
Robbie said softly, Just do all the things we asked.

Examples Of Gross Profit Costings
Based on the ABC data below are the gross profit margins for each product produced.
ABC is short for activity based costing. Companies follow a two stage process when allocating
indirect costs using ABC. The first stage entails assigning costs to pools based on the activities that
cause the costs to be incurred. The second stage involves allocating the costs in the activity costs
pools to products through the use of a variety of cost drivers. Furthermore, activity based costing
generates a suitable allocation since it disperses the applicable overhead costs to the appropriate
products. Also, it enhances precision in ascertaining the costs of products and services. Therefore, it
calls attention to the need to acquire a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the ABC system, there is a variety of cost drivers used. Thus, a different cost driver is used
for each category of overhead cost. Furthermore, with the ABC system, a larger amount of
overhead costs are allocated to OS 367. Therefore, since OS 367 utilizes greater proportions of
some of the resources than other products, the overhead costs for those categories are allocated to
OS 367 in larger amounts. Hence, the total overhead cost per unit increased for OS 367 (Edmonds
et al., 2011).
Furthermore, traditional costing does not classify the specific overhead charges or resource used
to fabricate a specific product and distributes costs by assigning average overhead rates.
However, ABC categorizes specific activities employed for producing each individual product and
allocates them based on their consumption of resources. Drilling Innovations used traditional
costing, which in turn, caused them to assign overhead based on machine hours and ignore other
overhead activities used to produce each product. However, by using ABC, the costs were
allocated based on the activities used to produce each individual drilling head. Therefore, the cost
was more accurately spread based on the overhead consumption of each product individually. Costs
that were incurred to produce OS 367 were being allocated to GS 157 and HS 241 with the
traditional costing method. Once

Theories Of John Stuart Mill
John Stuart Mill can be recognized as an influential English philosopher of his time. He strongly
believed in the concept of freedom of speech and choice, without the censorship that laws and
legal constitution bring. In other terms Mill s approach states that democracy is the only way we
can flourish if we let our ideas surface. This paper will be centered around John Stuart Mills theory
of liberal democracy. This paper will be examining five different authors that have been inspired by
Mills theoretical ideas.
Su, H. C. (2009). Is social justice for or against liberty? the philosophical foundations of mill and
Hayek s theory of liberty. Review of Austrian Economics, 22(4), 387 414. For this scholarly
article author, Huei Su compares two philosophers Mills and Hayek s theory of liberty. The
author argues that the the similarities in the economic theories of Mill and Hayek s main
similarities between their theories are actually based on different rationales . The author focused
on two particular ideals, liberty, and justice. From Mill s side he focused on liberty; how Mills
believed that social justice aids in obtaining real freedom. While Hayek theory on liberty defers,
however, Hayek supports his theory with his concept of rules and law. The author states that in
regards to Mill, social justice and individual liberty can be achieved by utilitarianism only through
various secondary principles of justice, rather than through the single first principle of

The Battle Of The Ottoman Empire
For the Ottoman to progress further it needed a new national mantra for legitimacy in order to
earn the respects of its subjects, in addition the empire had to mold a new national ethos . As said
before that if the Empire was to survive in the modern world, it could no longer be a group of
disparate communities held together by force and obedience to a ruling family; it needed a unity of
consciousness, which would create an active moral link between rulers and the ruled (Hourani
1991: 52). In this sense the old ways of cementing authority were no longer valid during the mid
nineteenth century. Another country that faced this dilemma was Russia, which ironically, was a
longtime rival of the Ottoman Empirefor influence in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea, yet just
like the Ottoman Empire it also faced the challenges of reconciling the increasingly outdated
notion of absolute monarchy to modern civic values. For Russia its answer was to turn to an
ideology that would seemingly be a unifying factor for the Slavic peoples in Europe with the Czar
as its head similar to that of Pan Islam followed by Abdul Hamid. In the Russian case it would
follow three principles: Orthodoxy, Autocracy, and Nationality. This notion was formulated by the
late Russian education minister Sergei Uvarov who stated these principles in an 1832 report
outlining the future direction of Russian education. Uvarov, a man who once studied in Vienna and
an enthusiast for Oriental Studies, believed that the

Living Off The Grid
There are 180,00 families in America living a sustainable lifestyle and roughly around 1.7
billion people worldwide living without depending on the grid. (Palameri 1; Perez qtd. in Wood

nation as more people are discovering that they possess a strong inclination to live in the same
manner as the Amish. This phenomenon is becoming a progressively popular choice for people
from all walks of life. Not only are environmentalists and survivalists escaping the city life in efforts
to live off the grid, but single families and people who are seeking to explore a simplified lifestyle
are also joining the trend. Living off the grid is slowly becoming... Show more content on

People who decided to challenge the system in efforts to live The Good Life are providing
resources for themselves. This means inhabiting an off grid lifestyle makes one solely responsible
for supplying their energy, waste removal system and water supply system.
One resource that is essential to produce electricity is renewable energy. Providing one s own
energy consists of utilizing solar panels, wind turbines and micro hydroelectricity. Solar panels
absorb energy from the Sun to produce solar energy. A great number of people who live off the
grid use solar power. Wind turbines generate electrical power from the wind and functions in the
reverse manner as a fan does. Micro hydroelectricity is another source of energy, which
fascinatingly uses a source of running water, like a stream, to generate electricity (Dunn 3).
Between all three sources of renewable energy, micro hydroelectricity is the most efficient, reliable
and commonly used form.
Undoubtedly, the most important resource people work to provide for an off grid lifestyle is
water. One method of obtaining water is through a water catchment system. This task can be
accomplish simply through using barrels to amass rainwater or snow that is fed by the downspout
of . . . rain gutters or eaves of [a] building or a house (Black 128). Another method of obtaining
water is

Summary Of Killing Hope By William Blum
Heidi Michaud
History 333
Prof. Mary Duncan
17 May, 2015
Examining U.S. Motivation in the Guatemalan Coup
In William Blum s Book, Killing Hope, Blum claims that the U.S. backed a CIA overthrow of the
Guatemalan Government in 1954.. Blum challenges that the motivation for the coup was not based
on a true belief that Guatemala s President Jacobo Arbenz was leaning towards communism, and
alludes to the the idea that the true motivation for the Coup was the threat to economic gains to The
United Fruit Company. Research of the Coup shows that Blum is correct in that the United States
was indeed behind the overthrow of Arbenz. However, Blum does not allow for doubt in that
Arbenz s social reforms and political actions could have truly appeared as communist to the United
States. Although hindsight and time reveal the coup to be morally and politically wrong, it is valid
to recognize that at that time in history, the actions of Guatemala s President, coupled with private
interests and radical beliefs about what constituted communism, could have sincerely convinced the
U.S. government that there was a true communist threat in Guatemala. After World War II, the
United States Cold War policy of Soviet Containment fostered a borderline hysterical fear of
communism in America. This fear created an atmosphere of U.S. hypervigilance towards any
actions that could appear remotely communist. The U.S. supported Coup in Guatemala was mostly
a result of strong anti Communist

  • 2. Public Policy Process Principle place of domicile: Houston, Texas I have resided only in the State of Texas. The State of Texas is a diverse, multicultural state that I am proud to be a native of. The city of Houston in itself is a great city that is full of diversity and where the job market is booming. As I long to be back home, I am also happy to be at the University of Dayton School of Law and cheerful for the new challenges that await. My cultural background is Latin American. Many simply associate their race or ethnicity as a way to associate themselves with others or to indicate to the government who they are. I cannot speak enough of other ethnicities, but the Latin American culture is a rich, huge, diverse culture. Both my parents are Latin American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A procedural system in which I have participated before was learning how Congress passes public policy. I believe the procedural they have is not as strict as the civil procedural system, but it in fact does a procedural to help create good thorough policies. I have not read the readings yet, but some key features to Congress passing legislation is The Public Policy Process. In this process, there are steps for policies to become implemented. The steps are problem identification, policy formulation, policy adoption, policy implementation and policy evaluation. A policy always begins with policy identification and so forth, but can go right back to the first step again and again, if issues or questions arise over the policy in question. The current remedies to the Public Policy Process aren t much, but a present remedy is abandoning the policy and start on another policy. Thus, the Public Policy Process is not always efficient. The fairness in this procedural process may seem democratic in Congress, but many political players play in the Public Policy Process, like lobbyist and interest groups, which ... • 3. Dependency Theory in Society Dependency theory appeared in the 20th century 50`s. The main topics that are included in dependency theory are historical materialism connected with other critical traditions, a partnership between developed countries and developing countries, interaction between a core and a periphery. Dependency theory mainly is used to talk about Western societies and Third World countries. Foundation of the dependency theory is Marxism, also it prefigures post structuralism, and the dependency theory stands for opposite opinion about economical growth and its affect, than neoliberals do. The Dependency theory doesn t look at economical activities from positive side, especially when it is done by world s richest countries. Richest countries economical activities always affect poorer countries, especially they cause economical problems. The dependency theory has evolved from two main sources, first is from the United States and other is from Latin America. In the United States the dependency theory developed because of the socialist journal Monthly Review, where neo Marxist thoughts were summarized and were published a publications about different social organizations. Previously the dependency theory was called as theory of monopoly capitalism, but later it was recalled as we know it now. The thought about the dependency theory rose from observed stagnation in the Third World, where bourgeoisies were acting like they want and did not take into account other opinions. If school of ... • 4. The Legacy Of Isaac Newton If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants Isaac Newton (BrainyQuote).Sir Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1648 in Woolsthorpe by Colsterworth, Lincolnshire, England, United Kingdom as a premature baby. During this era of the 17th century Scientific Revolution, science was revolutionizing but lacked knowledge that was added by this influential prominent figure. As a result, through this historical figure s trek, solutions to questions that once were unimaginable were solved. Nicknamed Isaac Newton, Jr., he influenced people to this day, impacting the world to the future, past, and present. Isaac Newton cemented a perennial legacy after revolutionizing the understandings in Science, mathematics,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, he viciously stated, Threatening my father and mother Smith to burn them and the house over them. (Encyclopedia Britannica). Isaac s life began from a dwelling start of minute survival possibilities and suffered through the insecurity of living without out his parents, climbing the staircase one step at a time. Subsequently, Newton, secluded from his parents who denied education, lived with a grandmother who influenced learning, provided the basis of his intelligence. In 1654, Newton was enrolled at The King s School, Grantam Grammar School at age 12 located in Grantham, Lincolnshire. He lodged with a local apothecary, who helped build up his interest in chemistry and the undeveloped medicine fields. Excelling in all his courses, he also erected an interest in reading books, creating novel models, and chemistry. As a result, once he banged a peg into a wall, marked hours around it, and saw its shadow move, telling time at amazing accuracy. In addition, he generated a windmill operated by a mouse running on a treadmill. Though, Newton had a complex personality, since at school he carved his name on every bench he sat on, including some stone window ledges. As a fragile and gifted child he received criticism which would later develop his new personality during his adulthood. Afterwards, Hannah became widowed for the second time and dropped Newton out of school to work on the farm bringing three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Venesta Vs Covenanta Analysis We can t run away from life because we are that life; and that life exist and it is real, we can experience it according to TANTRA. So TANTRA uses this and reverses this cycle. One difference I find is that TANTRA suggests transformation of anything or any non thing that binds /contract us. For example attachment to our body or ego believing that we are that body or that we are that ego. So in TANTRA, the body and all the things , non things and the energies of life are fully respected because they are considered manifestations of the Divine, and the Divine resides within them, we are also that Divine. The body is not good or bad, it is something to be transcended. On the other hand, VEDANTA suggests a direct experience of transcending anything or any non thing as opposed to transformation because there is nothing to be transformed. We are already that oneness, pure consciousness, Brahman, the Absolut. The method of non dualistic VEDANTA is to negate all things or non things , which VEDANTA calls unreal, until one sees nothing, but Brahman, or pure and undifferentiated consciousness. In order to reach the affirmation of oneness, every trace of duality must be rigorously rejected; in other words, VEDANTA asks us to renounce the world of concepts, names and forms. However, this is very easy to say, but more difficult to practice. It is like seeing the political map of the world, we can see many borders dividing the world in many different countries, but in reality, if we observe the world out from space, we do not see those lines/divisions; we see a beautiful round planet mostly blue from its higher content in water. Those divisions do not exist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. The Silance Of Music In Alfred Hitchcock s Vrtigo Vertigo is a 1958 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring James Stewart, Kim Novak, and Barbara Bel Geddes. The film follows the acrophobic, retired San Francisco detective, John Scottie Ferguson (Stewart) who is hired to trail his friend s wife, Madeleine (Novak), but falls in love with her in the process. When Madeleine dies in what is deemed a suicide, John becomes depressed and begins to obsess over Judy (Novak), who looks exactly like the Madeleine he knew. After changing Judy s appearance to be a doppelganger of Madeleine, John comes to find out that he had actually fallen in love with Judy pretending to be Madeleine, because she was part of a plot to murder the real Madeleine. One aspect of the film that is interesting is the way the balance of music and dialogue add to the suspense of the story. As stated in James Berardinelli s review of Vertigo, There are numerous, lengthy passages that pass without dialogue (most of these occur while John is trailing Madeleine), and Herrmann s music sustains Hitchcock s carefully crafted tone. As well as to create these interesting scenes that rely almost entirely on visuals to tell the story, the music has an important role of building the feeling of suspense, complete with the typical thriller crescendos used to foreshadow a big event. This film has many technical aspects that help it stand apart from others and the musical choices made are a clear example of this. Another aspect of this film that is fantastic is the ... • 8. Three Aspects Of Comprehensive Assessment There are three aspects to consider in my comprehensive assessment of Susan. First, the things that happen to Susan such as the relationship with her children, her husband dying a year ago, and the love for her cats. Secondly, the things that happen within Susan s environment such as the accident she had, her church, and her friends. The third aspect is the transaction between the two which I would have to figure out ways where the client can have both, a healthy and a happy life. The primary concerns I have in Susan s case is that she is living alone in a small trailer with seven cats. Susan is an older lady and cannot be alone all the time, soon she will need of someone to be with her all the time. The Komsomol, The Communist Union Of Youth The nature of the universe is that every society is greatly under the effect of politics, especially during the revolution time in which Solzhenitsyn called those young people who participated as the new generation . The truths behind those ideological lies of The Komsomol, the Communist Union of Youth, are revealed implicitly through the story of Anatoly Pavlovich Vozdvizhensky, an engineer and a professor, and Lyoshka Konoplyov, one of his least competent working class student in the Strength of Materials course but later join the GPU on orders of the Komsomol. Moreover, when talking to his daughter Lyolka about her school life, despite the fact that she disgusted the Komsomol, he tried to persuade himself and his daughter to join the Komsomol to avoid any risks and to get accepted to the institution she wanted by suggesting: this new generation of young people really does have something, some truth that we can t fully understand. • 13. Alternative Fuels Essay 8 Alternative Fuels This day in age, one of the world s main concerns is energy. Currently, we rely on petroleum to run our cars, and household central heat, and electricity in our homes. Petroleum is not only limited, but it is also dirtying up the world s air, and depleting the ozone layer as it is burned. Alternative fuels are one of the worlds most talked about issues, and many solutions have been brought forth, yet none of them have been sophisticatedly acted upon. Another non depleting energy vein that we are able to tap into is wind. Wind power is generated when large, slow moving wind turbines are spun with the wind, thus causing a coil inside to generate electricity. These are seen throughout the Great Plains, and many other flats. These are generally not powerful enough, unless they are built in large numbers. Many times, around two hundred are built in one area, to produce for the nearest city or town. Although these do produce some good, usable energy, as with all things, they have some problems. Wind does not always blow, and when the wind stops, so does the energy. Sun is not always shining, for solar energy, but they have cells to store energy for nightfall. Wind Turbines are also a big concern for birds. Migrating or locals, flying birds of all kinds are in danger from a twenty food diameter of spinning death. This has been a concern of PETA and other animal protection agencies (CNN). Another type of fuel is Biofuel. This type of energy is produced through different types of wastes. Potato peels, whey, turkey guts, and frying oil are all types of wastes that can be converted into biofuel. This is a relatively new scientific breakthrough in the hunt for a more efficient energy source. The good thing about using biofuel is that it is clean, and can get rid of our wastes, while ... Every person s morals are different from one another and can be used to define what is right and what is wrong in their own eyes. Values are used as a personal translator that explains another person s behavior or beliefs to a different individual. When people focus on both morals and values that have been set by them, they see everything with a limited view, but take in more about what they learn. Adults also need to hold onto these morals to help youths to learn and grasp their own personal morals. It not only studies these various concepts and principles but also governs the values pertaining to human rights or natural rights, the essential equality of all men and women across the globe, the basic concern for health and safety, and also for the natural environment on the whole. Be it any industry, business, any form of work place, it follows a certain code of conduct, which is legit and undeniable. Apart from restricting the concept of Ethics only to industries and business, I feel, ethics begins from within. Ethics are basically the rules or standards leading to the conduct by which I live my life and make all my decisions. One of the best ways of thinking about ethics is to take a quick look at your beliefs and then think about how your reactions would be when those beliefs are challenged. The most common method of creating a base for a whole head weave is to braid the hair in cornrows from the front to the back, while leaving out a small section at the top to cover the tracks. However, this method can not be done for a partial hair weave. To complete a partial sew in you would need to braid the area of hair that will hold the extensions in a side to side pattern. Step 2 After the base has been made, you will need to sew the remaining ends of the cornrow on to it. Start by threading the needle. You would do this by inserting the thread through the eye of the needle. Once you have that completed fold the thread in two and measure out approximately 18 inches. At the end, tie the two pieces together in a knot. Step 3 Fold the end of the braid on top of the cornrow and sew it down using a basic stitch method. Once you have reached the end of the braid you should make a knot to keep it from coming undone. Step 4 Open the pack of hair extensions and comb out any knots or tangles pay special attention to any rubber bands or pins used to keep the hair together. Step 5 Next you will have to locate the weft on the hair extension. The weft is the sturdy area at the top of the extension. This is where the hair has been looped together with thread. It resembles a seam. Step 6 Once the weft has been located, you will then need to lay the extension on top of the cornrow to measure the length of the braid. Once the length ... It is not the image of a leader that comes to mind when you think of someone who is a leader Servants are individuals that are known for following and bowing down while leaders are individuals who exhibit power and enforce rule. It is difficult to picture a leader also having characteristics of a servant. While it may be difficult to picture, servant leadershipoffers a unique perspective to leadership and often times is incredibly effective. Servant leadership is a type of leadership that focuses on the behaviors of the leader. Northouse states, a servant leader must be attentive to the concerns of their followers, empathize with them, and nurture them (2013). Servant leadership demands that the leader empower his followers and help to build them up in order to reach their full potential. Servant leadership helps enrich the lives of the individuals working for the company and ultimately builds more caring organizations. Robert K. Greenleaf wrote an essay entitled The Servant As Leader in 1970 where he said: The servant leader is servant first... It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead. That person is sharply different from one who is leader first, perhaps because of the need to assuage an unusual power drive or to acquire material possessions...The leader first and the servant first are two extreme types. Congress as part of the legislative branch, however according to the text, American Government Institutions and Policies by James Wilson, John Dilulio, and Meena Bose, to the Framers of the Constitution, the bicameral (two chamber) Congress was the first branch. The dynamic of both entities have shifted over the years; especially in reference to how the legislative branch operates. Most contemporary Americans and many experts, however, think of Congress not as the first branch but as the broken branch, unable to address the nation s most pressing domestic, economic, and international problems in an effective way; unduly responsive to powerful organized special interests; awash in nonstop campaign fundraising and other activities that many believe border on political corruption; and unlikely to fix itself through real reforms (p.303). First we need to identify the debt, equity and the firm value, which is equity plus debt. Then we identify the debt cost (rD), which is a pre tax cost, and then we need to identify the cost of equity (rE). As we can observe in table A, the debt percentage in capital is 60 %, which implies that the equity is 40 %. By dividing the income taxes by the company s income before taxes, we find that t = 175,9 / 398,9 = 0,44 To find the risk free rate, we chose to use the arithmetic average on long term U.S. government bond returns for the longest time period... We think that the financing of the restaurant division is a bit different. Since we re told that Marriott in a higher degree uses more short term debt to finance this division, we use only 10 year interest rates, which, according to table B is 8,72%. The restaurant division has a significantly higher spread, which is 1,80%. rD for restaurant division = 8,72% + 1,80% = 10,52%. These are only the fixed part of the cost of debt. For the floating part of the debt we use one year bonds. This means that the floating part of the cost of debt is for the lodging division 6,90% + 1,10% = 8,00%, and for the restaurant division it s 6,90% + 1,80% = 8,70%, due to the different spreads. The lodging division has 50% fixed debt rate and 50 % floating rate, whilst the restaurant division has 25% floating rate and 75% fixed rate. These numbers gives the following calculation for the different costs of debt: Lodging cost of debt: 50% * 8,00% + 50% * 10,05% = 9,025% Restaurant cost of debt: 75% * 8,70% + 25% * 10,52% = 10,065% These different divisions need a different cost of debt because of the fact that assets in the restaurant and contracting services have shorter useful lives. • 33. A Commodity Sign A commodity sign invests symbolic meaning in products or services as a signifier with an image as signified. In recent times, consumer culture is driven by our desire for superfluous wants, causing the production and consumption of commodity signs to become more specialised according to the notion of capital. Capitalism is characterised by economies that are based on open markets and the ethos of individuality over community. French Sociologist Pierre Bourdieu (Distinction 1984) introduced the schema of subcultural capital, which confers status on its owner in the eyes of the relevant beholder (Thorton, 2006: 100). Therefore people have the idea that they can buy subcultural capital, as it is seen as self revealing, in order to impress people or become someone else (Frith, 1996: 5). Thus advertisingwas developed as a strategy in generating demand in a contemporary consumer culture. Mass marketing has split the unity of signifiers and signified into a language of appearances and images of which we realise as either visible, physical connections or indirect connotations to that which they represent. This essay will be addressing ideologies of consumer fetishism and pseudo individuality through examining the commodity signs found in the mass marketing and advertising of designer cosmetics, particularly Chanel. That being said I will focus on those that are extrapolated from the overall text versus those pulled from individuals. The kingdom of heaven develops into a serious, if not the prominent, theme of the Sermon on the Mount, and dare I say is probably the most protruding theological motif arising from it. I knew the right thing to do would be to get married in a church. This led me back to God and His rules. • 37. Allison Millic A Short Story Its bizarre how one situation from your past can affect your future and every decision you make for the rest of your life (Millican). Allison Millican, a strong young lady, has been through many major life changing events growing up. No child would ever think of nor wish upon him/herself the series of events she has been through. These events affected her state of mind plus the choices she made for every important situation, for the rest of her life. This childhood trauma led to depression as well as anxiety, however, it all started the day her parents finalized their divorce. As a very young child, Allison lived in a strict, conservative home with morals and a firm belief that once married, always married; divorce is simply giving up and not giving your all. She lived in a home that went to church every sunday,in addition stayed to themselves about personal conflicts like any conservative family would ordinarily do. As time went on those morals started to fade. What was once a happy marriageturned into an emotional, high strung marriage. Allison, being so young, didn t remember much of what happened, nevertheless she knew that matters were changing. Ironically, the conservative family with morals divided, leading to the start of a brand new life Allison could never be prepared for. After the divorce, Allison s living situation went back and forth like a game of tug of war. One week she stayed with her father then the next she was with her mother. As one can imagine, it was very hard on her having to transition every week, not to mention the new habit her mother picked up. As a result, he had totally forgotten about her own daughter, also all of her attention turned towards something else. Allison felt as if she couldn t go to her father because of his bussiness with a new girlfriend along with his work schedule. Her mother s new habit involved drinking and drinking all the time to cope with the hard, overwhelming separation. Sometimes what starts as a bad habit can become a very big problem (Foundation). It will explore the question, does understanding at a cognitive level play a crucial role in receiving what the sacraments are conveying? Role of Cognition. Cognition is a term referring to how a person understands and acts on different issues. These skills are transformed into signals that our brains can understand, everything from something very simple to something extremely difficult. They are to do with the means of how we pay attention, listen, remember, work out, learn, and even believe. At every age people are curious and have a desire to seek and uncover facts. The Lord Supper was established to help us remember what Christ has done for our salvation. All who are going to partake of the Lord s supper should examine themselves first and deal with any problems and difficulties that they have in their hearts and life. The celebration must be set apart from the pagan festival, and each person must be conscious of what happening as they partake. The Lord supper is an unsophisticated ceremony, where believers can meet and partake of bread and wine, it is a sacred act of thanksgiving communion and remembrance. Furthermore, it is a sacrament that should be received repeatedly where continuing fellowship with God and his people can be obtained. As we participate in the Lord s supper then the past becomes the present and we are sharing in the once and for all sacrifice of Calvary but that is not all it is also predicting the future fulfilment of Christ returning. The significance of cognitive awareness in connection with receiving what the sacrament is conveying can be seen in the numerous ways that Christians have understood the rituals. Throughout history, between the different Christians denominations there has been much dispute over the different understandings of the Lord s supper. The two statements that have caused major problems are in Luke 22:17 22 where Christ declared to the Apostles Do this in Remembrance of Me , and in Mark 14:26 29 where Christ states that his body is the ... It was a clear day and yet there seemed an intangible pall over the face of things, a subtle gloom that made the day dark, and that was due to the absence of sun. The face did not worry the man. Nt1330 Unit 7 Igm Based on the comparison Table 1, Table 2 and Table 3, we identified following set of categories on which we would like to evaluate the above tools and computing paradigm in subsequent sub sections: 4.1.1. Distributed Computation, Scalability and Parallel Computation As we can see from the comparison tables, all computing tools provide these facilities. Hadoop distributes data as well as computing via transferring it to various storage nodes. Also, it linearly scales by adding a number of nodes to computing clusters but shows a single point failure. Cloudera Impala also quits execution of the entire query if a single part of it stops. IBM Netezza and Apache Giraph whereas does not have single point failure. In terms of parallel computation IBM Netezza is fastest due to hardware built parallelism. 4.1.2. Real Time Query, Query Speed, Latency Time The Hadoop employs MapReduce paradigm of computing which targets batch job processing. It does not directly support the real time query execution i.e OLTP. Hadoop can be integrated with Apache Hive that supports HiveQL query language which supports query firing, but still not provide OLTP tasks (such as updates and deletion at row level) and has late response time (in minutes) due to absence of pipeline... Companies follow a two stage process when allocating indirect costs using ABC. The first stage entails assigning costs to pools based on the activities that cause the costs to be incurred. The second stage involves allocating the costs in the activity costs pools to products through the use of a variety of cost drivers. Furthermore, activity based costing generates a suitable allocation since it disperses the applicable overhead costs to the appropriate products. With the ABC system, there is a variety of cost drivers used. Thus, a different cost driver is used for each category of overhead cost. Furthermore, with the ABC system, a larger amount of overhead costs are allocated to OS 367. Therefore, since OS 367 utilizes greater proportions of some of the resources than other products, the overhead costs for those categories are allocated to OS 367 in larger amounts. Hence, the total overhead cost per unit increased for OS 367 (Edmonds et al., 2011). Furthermore, traditional costing does not classify the specific overhead charges or resource used to fabricate a specific product and distributes costs by assigning average overhead rates. However, ABC categorizes specific activities employed for producing each individual product and allocates them based on their consumption of resources. Drilling Innovations used traditional costing, which in turn, caused them to assign overhead based on machine hours and ignore other overhead activities used to produce each product. However, by using ABC, the costs were allocated based on the activities used to produce each individual drilling head. Therefore, the cost was more accurately spread based on the overhead consumption of each product individually. Costs that were incurred to produce OS 367 were being allocated to GS 157 and HS 241 with the traditional costing method. Once ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will be examining five different authors that have been inspired by Mills theoretical ideas. Su, H. C. (2009). The author argues that the the similarities in the economic theories of Mill and Hayek s main similarities between their theories are actually based on different rationales . The author focused on two particular ideals, liberty, and justice. From Mill s side he focused on liberty; how Mills believed that social justice aids in obtaining real freedom. While Hayek theory on liberty defers, however, Hayek supports his theory with his concept of rules and law. • 48. The Battle Of The Ottoman Empire For the Ottoman to progress further it needed a new national mantra for legitimacy in order to earn the respects of its subjects, in addition the empire had to mold a new national ethos . As said before that if the Empire was to survive in the modern world, it could no longer be a group of disparate communities held together by force and obedience to a ruling family; it needed a unity of consciousness, which would create an active moral link between rulers and the ruled (Hourani 1991: 52). In this sense the old ways of cementing authority were no longer valid during the mid nineteenth century. Another country that faced this dilemma was Russia, which ironically, was a longtime rival of the Ottoman Empirefor influence in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea, yet just like the Ottoman Empire it also faced the challenges of reconciling the increasingly outdated notion of absolute monarchy to modern civic values. For Russia its answer was to turn to an ideology that would seemingly be a unifying factor for the Slavic peoples in Europe with the Czar as its head similar to that of Pan Islam followed by Abdul Hamid. In the Russian case it would follow three principles: Orthodoxy, Autocracy, and Nationality. This notion was formulated by the late Russian education minister Sergei Uvarov who stated these principles in an 1832 report outlining the future direction of Russian education. • 50. Summary Of Killing Hope By William Blum Heidi Michaud History 333 Prof. Mary Duncan 17 May, 2015 Examining U.S. Motivation in the Guatemalan Coup In William Blum s Book, Killing Hope, Blum claims that the U.S. backed a CIA overthrow of the Guatemalan Government in 1954.. Blum challenges that the motivation for the coup was not based on a true belief that Guatemala s President Jacobo Arbenz was leaning towards communism, and alludes to the the idea that the true motivation for the Coup was the threat to economic gains to The United Fruit Company. Research of the Coup shows that Blum is correct in that the United States was indeed behind the overthrow of Arbenz. However, Blum does not allow for doubt in that Arbenz s social reforms and political actions could have truly appeared as communist to the United States. Although hindsight and time reveal the coup to be morally and politically wrong, it is valid to recognize that at that time in history, the actions of Guatemala s President, coupled with private interests and radical beliefs about what constituted communism, could have sincerely convinced the U.S. government that there was a true communist threat in Guatemala. After World War II, the United States Cold War policy of Soviet Containment fostered a borderline hysterical fear of communism in America. This fear created an atmosphere of U.S. hypervigilance towards any actions that could appear remotely communist. The U.S. supported Coup in Guatemala was mostly a result of strong anti Communist ...
