Astronomer s Wife Summary
Kay Boyle was born in 1902 to a middle class family in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her family was very
intellectual and exposed her to the arts early in her life. At the age of 11, Boyle attended the
famous Armory Show in New York. She was heavily involved with the avant garde literary scene
in the United States and Paris. She was a prolific writer for important journals and wrote for the
New Yorker and the Nation. Many critics feel Boyle s writing had a strong feminist sensibility
and feel she preceded many other so called feminist writers. In the 1930 s many critics praised her
style and the elegant use of the English language (Barnhisel). During the 1960s, she was involved in
the feminist movement, civil rights, and antiwar movements. Boyle remained active in these causes
until her death in 1992 (Gale). Astronomer s Wife shows how we consider the difference between
body and mind. This is a story of a woman named Mrs. Ames who is dissatisfied with her marriage.
She has requested a plumber come to fix a water leak in her home. Instead of letting the servant
tell the plumber the issue, she follows him as he investigates the pipes. Her interaction with the
plumber allows her to see that she may be able to find happiness in other places. Mrs. Ames feels
her husbandis a dreamer and only concerned with mind things (Di Yanni, 63). I enjoyed reading
Astronomer s Wife because of the way Boyle painted clear pictures of the characters and Mrs.
Ames epiphany of her

Buddhism And Shinto Similarities
While I was reading these interesting stories, each story had some qualities that where similar, but
there were also many differences. Which wasn t really a huge surprise since the setting of each
story happened during different times, and on different parts of the planet. All the stories involved
a special child, and everyone knew he was gifted. A few characters in these myths have powers, but
some do not. Sikhism and Christianity seem to be based on Monotheistic viewpoint, but Buddhism
and Shinto seem to be based on a polytheistic viewpoint. Each story was either about a god, or a
prophet spreading his new found message to the people.
Buddha, Jesus, and the Kami gods where all conceived without sex. God chose Mary to bear his
son Jesus, because she was pure and holy. Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto created the
Kami gods with their powers. Buddha picked the woman who he wanted to conceive him after
many reincarnations, and entered inside her on a white elephant. Unlike Jesus, Buddha s mom died

Jesus was feared by many of the parents, because he continued to curse the children that angered
him. Joseph wanted Jesus to stop what he was doing, so he brought him too many scholars. It
didn t work out quit as Joseph might as plan, because Jesus cursed them due to many
disagreements. It wasn t until one of Josephs friends told him that Jesus didn t need any
teaching, that Jesus began blessing people. Buddha s dad did want Buddha to see pain, because
he did not want Buddha to become a wandering mendicant. Eventually Buddha convinced his dad
to view the outside world, but while he was viewing the city he also discovered poverty, pain,
and sickness. Buddha wanted to leave to find the answer to not feel pain, but his dad did not want
him to go. Buddha s dad instead wanted him to become a great ruler, so he had many guards try to
restrain his son. Buddha escaped, because the gods helped

Creation vs Evolution Essay
There are two different beliefs of how everything came to be. One is creation. Creationalists believe
in what the Bible says which is that God created everything. Another is evolution. Evolutionalists
believe that there was a quot;big bang quot; which brought forth everything. In this paper, I m going
to give the arguments that prove evolution wrong.
One of the main things that evolutionalists have a problem with is time. They say that the world
has existed for millions and billions of years. There is a couple problems with this though. The sun
shrinks so much every day because it is burning up all its fuels. Scientists can calculate how big the
sun was at any point in history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they go back in time millions of years, the magnetic field would be too strong for anything to live
on earth, therefore this being another reason why the earth is not that old.
Evolutionists believe that humans and all other things evolved by mutation. Scientists can force
mutations with radiation. Every mutation that has been made has never been good. Mutations only
hurt the organism, not help it.
A main part in evolution is the dating of fossils. This makes a type of circular reasoning though
because of the archeologists and paleontologists. The archeologist dates the layers of the earth by
the fossils that were found in it and the paleontologist dates the fossils by the layer of the earth it
was found in.
Another problem comes up when you talk about fossils. If the world is millions and billions of
years old, there would be fossils at lots of different archeological levels. Archeologists have found
that most fossils are found at the same level, which would mean that some huge natural disaster
happened and killed millions of animals at one time. The Bible mentions of a great flood that wiped
out millions of animals and humans. This again proves evolution wrong.
A way to date old artifacts and bodies is by using the C 14

Post Secondary Education For The United States
Post secondary education in the United States is often viewed as a necessary step towards
financial security mostly for those who take part in it. The introduction of the GI Bill in the year
1944 labeled the post secondary education as a larger part of the American dream because it acted
as a ticket towards economic security. Today, approximately 20 million students in the United
States are in pursuit of a bachelor s degree, masters, or any other type of higher level educationsuch
as certifications and specialized courses (Friss, 2012). This elevated number of students
interested in becoming educated denotes that the cost of advanced education has and will
simultaneously continue to increase. Therefore, this fact has its pros and cons depending on
the career of choice and especially depending on how much one receives in return once entered
the workforce. Students in America pursue post secondary education for a diversity of motives.
Most do it for economic stability and consequently tend to develop a profession for the sake of
earning an income as their primary goal. Comfortable living accompanies such motive, action
which leads individuals to wish to obtain a substantial life where they may enjoy financial
freedom. Some students look for a broad, liberal arts education, while others become focused on a
specific career. However, there are students who simply enroll to take one or two classes for the
joy of learning and/or keeping up with their skills. Great

Chapter one introduces the reader to Charles Monet. He is a French expatriate working on a sugar
plantation in western Kenya. The story begins on New Year s Day, 1980, when Charles and a
woman take an overnight trip to Mount Elgon, a formerly active volcano. During their trip, they
visit Kitum Cave.
After returning to his quiet life, Monet becomes ill. The reader knows that he is experiencing a
catastrophic illness, but Charles and those who treat him are unaware of how serious it truly is.

The author also creates an effective atmosphere of fear by showing that doctors, who are almost
always viewed as being superhuman, can so easily contract this virus.
The Hot Zone Summary | Part 1, Chapter 3 Diagnosis Summary
Several years later, the author visits with Dr. David Silverstein, who has gained a huge reputation
in Nairobi. Silverstein relates a 2 a.m. phone call that informed him that Dr. Musoke s blood tested
positive for Marburg, a virus about which little is known. It was named after a town in Germany
where, in 1967, citizens contracted the virus from monkeys transported from Uganda to a local
laboratory. Many of the monkeys had been brought in by a trader who was more interested in
money than the health of the animals.
The virus is different from most because rather than being ball shaped, it is a filovirus, or has
tendrils like hair or worms that tangle together. They can also roll up into loops, a very unique
trait. The other well known filovirus is Ebola. Marburg kills one in four humans who receive
medical treatment and is so dangerous that the international community immediately tries to
identify the source. The best they can do is to hypothesize that it was a hot island in western
Africa populated by sick monkeys that were trapped and sold in other countries. This is also a
popular theory about the origin of HIV and AIDS. The viruses mutate enough to spread from
monkeys to humans and can have a catastrophic effect.

What Role Does Ballet Play In The Swan
Ballet played an enormous role in this beautiful artistic story of The Swan, for the very simple
reason that every movement and every gesture signifies a different experience for someone who is
opening up your mind, and eyes that they re attempting to escape death. The ballet is not about a
ballerina being able to transform herself into a swan, but about death, with the swan simply being a
metaphor for that. Watching Svetlana Zakharova performing The Swan she really used a
combination of masterful technique with expressiveness. It was like she was proving that dance
could and should satisfy not only the eye, but through the medium of the eye should penetrate the
soul. If you sit back, close your eyes, and just listen to the musical tempo

The Scopes Trial And Its Impact On The American Education...
The Scopes Trial is a standout amongst the most well known trials in American history. The trial
was a lawful case in 1925 in which a substitute high school teacher, John Scopes, was charged with
violating Tennessee s Butler Act, which made it illegal to teach Darwinism in any state financed
school. This trial was a gathering between various polar opposites, for example, Fundamentalism
and Modernism. The clash between fundamentalism and modernism during the Scopes Trial had a
significant impact on the American education system. In America, in the 1920s, two significant
cultural movements arose that eventually clashed. A Christian fundamentalist movement arose in
America and the fundamentalist s goal during this time was to recover and publicly institutionalize
old time religious fundamental values. Fundamentalist believed in a literal interpretation of the
Bible, and thus strongly objected to the teachings of Charles Darwin, since his theory of evolution
contradicted the origin of man as found in the Bible. In the 1920s, the Christian fundamentalist
began to gain political power across America and started passing legislation banning the teaching of
Darwinism in state funded schools. At the same time cultural modernism was also rising in
America. Modernist believes in a secular government and their agenda was education, democratic
reforms, and economic progress. These two conflicting ideologies would inevitably clash, which
occurred in the Scopes Trial of

A Random Walk Down Wall Street Essay
A Random Walk Down Wall Street
There is a sense of complexity today that has led many to believe the individual investor has little
chance of competing with professional brokers and investment firms. However, Malkiel states this
is a major misconception as he explains in his book A Random Walk Down Wall Street. What does
a random walk mean? The random walk means in terms of the stock market that, short term
changes in stock prices cannot be predicted . So how does a rational investor determine which stocks
to purchase to maximize returns? Chapter 1 begins by defining and determining the difference in
investing and speculating. Investing defined by Malkiel is the method of purchasing assets to gain
profit in the form of reasonably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I used the term speculated because often times these forecasts were not based on any kind of asset
valuation or operating game plan. It was purely based on the hype surrounding the security. These
were short term investments and were based on the premise that a buyer could pay any price for
a stock as long as they expected future buyers to assign a higher value . This theory is also known
as the greater fool theory.
Now that the two theories have been explained, let s look at some historical examples from
Malkiel that really paint the picture in chapter 2. The first speculative craze noted was over tulips
in the seventeenth century in Holland. The tulips were brought from Turkey and the Dutch
valued the beauty and rarity of the new flowers. Thus the prices for the flowers inflated. As the
prices rose merchants would by stockpiles to sell to the public. The more expensive they got the
more the public believed they were making smart investments. People would sell off the personal
belongings to get their hands on the bulbs. The mania surrounding the bulbs created a bubble that
would soon burst. The prices got so high some people decided to cash in and sell them to make a
handsome profit. Soon others joined in causing a snowball effect and the prices tumbled.
Eventually there was no demand and they were worthless. Many went

demonstrate in the final examination comprehensive understanding of the topics covered in the
unit. This is demonstrated by the requirement that the student must attain a mark of at least 45% in
the final examination.
A student s final mark is normally the sum of the marks obtained in all of the assessment tasks in
the unit. However, when a student fails the unit solely because of failure to satisfy the hurdle

Estella Chapter 1
Our first meeting with Estella takes place in chapter eight. During this chapter, Dickens uses
Estella to exemplify class differences and the contrast between her and Pip . During their first
meeting, Estella often patronises Pip, commenting on his coarse hands and thick boots . These
phrases show that Estella is psychologically harming Pip by breaking his heart, (the effects of
this can be seen when Pip starts harming himself later when out of sight.) Also, Estella
comments on Pip s phraseology as he calls knaves jacks . This also hurts Pip as he believes
Estella will never be with him due to him being a commoner which deeply upsets Pip as Estella is
the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. Thus, Dickens also uses Estella to show the

Child Language Development
Language is a system in which sequences of sounds make up words to signify a person, place, idea,
or object and eventually becomes a tool through which we communicate. Language development
starts at birth with crying. Infants cry to communicate their needs are not being met. At around six
months infants begin to form consonant vowel chains; this is the start of babbling, an essential pre
linguistic skill and milestone in languagedevelopment. Around the age of eleven months the child
will say begin to say their first words, and language continues to develop throughout life. Like many
other areas of development language development is influenced by the culture the infant grows up
in.
The beginning of language development is similar through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Is A Selfless Act For Serving Ones Country
Serving in the U.S. Military is a selfless act to serve ones country. Any able bodied American that
can meet the physical, emotional, and mental requirements should have the ability to serve in
some capacity to include Transgender Americans. In 2011 don t ask, don t tell act was repealed
(Don t Ask Don t Tell), thus allowing LGB service members to serve, but what about the T? The
repeal left Transgenderservice members to continue to serve in secrecy or lose their career
(Transgender Military Post DADT). Being transgender does not limit ones capacity to perform a
job. Despite potential controversies in the workplace, Transgender Americans should be permitted
to serve their country as they are equally as capable, and willing to give their lives for their country.
Being Transgender is actually part of an umbrella term that encompasses anyone whom doesn t
identify as their birth gender. Transgender, has until recent years been something not often
discussed, many people not personally knowing or having met a transgender person that they know
of. It is estimated 700,000 American adults, representing 0.3 percent of the nation s adult
population are transgender (Medical Aspects of Transgender Military Service). Percentage wise this
may not seem significant thus explaining why so little is known, however, 700,000 is a significant
number of people.

Are Animal Experiments For Cosmetic Research Necessary And...
Are animal experiments for cosmetic research necessary and can they be justified?
Abstract:
This report investigates animal is cosmetic testing. The introduction outlines the focus of this
report, the history of animal testing and presenting relevant case studies to illustrate the issue. The
discussion provides in depth information about animal testing by presenting two sides of the story.
The conclusion will highlight the main points learned to help decide if animal experiments are,
indeed, necessary.
Methodology:
Searching online became useful for secondary sources. Websites such as BUAV (British Union for
the Abolition of Vivisection), which offered a useful timeline, like the Cruelty Free International
campaign and how these actions contributed to stopping animal testing in the EU. Cruelty Free
International is supported by a number of celebrities including Ricky Gervais and Sir Paul
McCartney. PeTA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) provided information about the
types and alternatives of testing. The website also listed alternatives to animal testing, such as the
Human skin models, which are considered in this report.
News articles by the BBC were very helpful when considering the pros and cons of animal testing.

Notes On On Land And Water By Kyle Dean
Terrestrialization on Land or in Water
By Kyle Dean
Intro.
The movement to land by plants has been a point of great interest for many researchers. The
complexity of the situation is in the characterization of those traits that were most essential to the
viability on land, and whether those traits developed prior to terrestrialization or post
terrestrialization. This complexity stems from the long branch of phylogeny leading to
terrestrialization having an incomplete fossil record due to environmental changes throughout time.
The gold standard hypothesis on terrestrialization introduced by Bower is accepted in the scientific
community as the explanation for terrestrial plant diversification of plant orders and families. Bower
s hypothesis articulates, that the evolution of antithetic alternating life cycles was instrumental in
adapting to the terrestrial habitat. (Harholt et al., 2016) In other words the development of the free
living sporophyte and gametophyte was critical to a plants ability to live on land. This information
if taken only to mean the diversification of land plant orders and families is accepted by most
without question, for the alternating life cycle is imperative to suitability of land plants; however,
if Bower intended for his hypothesis to be inclusive of the primordial terrestrialization then his
hypothesis has encountered some criticism. Stebbins and Hill in 1980 conducted research that
concluded with the premise that unicellular charophytes invaded

students to see they don t receive an education but they have the right to claim it. Her message is

they claim it instead of thinking it s been given to them and take it for granted. Once students learn
to declare education as theirs and take full responsibility they will be more successful. Even though

Testosterone And Prostate Cancer Essay
The objective of this paper was to find a correlation between elevated levels of testosterone and
prostate cancer. The rationale behind evaluating high levels of testosterone and prostate cancer is
testosterone is necessary for the development of the prostate. Elevated levels are needed for
adolescent males can form their reproductive system, in which the prostate is included. In addition,
testosteroneis important in the formation of the adrenal gland because testosterone, being an

The pathway begins with an androgen receptor, which binds different androgens, such as estrogen
and testosterone. (Estorgen is the hormone mainly found in women although, men also have it.
The form men have it in is called estradilol) The androgen receptor is recognized by the ligands
5О± dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and testosterone, which are both present in male sexual
development. After the testosterone is formed it is bound to a serum sex hormone binding globulin
(SHBG) and begins to circulate through the body. However, just because the SHBG is bound to
the testosterone only the free form of testosterone can enter into the prostate. Once inside the
prostate, the testosterone has changed into a more potent form of itself, allowing the prostatic cells
to begin to grow. When these cells begin to grow, the prostate does as well. [2] Since testosterone
is derived from a cholesterol molecule, it can easily pass through membranes, like the plasma
membrane, because it is hydrophobic. Other studies believe that a mutation in the androgen
receptor is found to increase the cancer stage. These mutations are found between zero to four
percent in the latent stage and stage B prostate tumors. (Stage B prostate cancer is a cancer that can
be found during a digital rectal exam and is limited to the prostate. It is also

Comparing Antigone To Creon
The play Antigone is about two brothers who kill each other in battle, one is buried one isn t and
laws are placed in order to prevent it from happening. A sister comes in to bury his brother despite
the laws and risk potential death in the process. The person who put these laws into place is called
Creon, who wants the person who buried the body to face justice. The sister who committed this
crime is Antigone, who is also the character that I m contrasting with Creon.
Antigone, while being the sibling to the two brothers, is also related to Creon. You would
assume this would cause Creon to not consider killing his blood and also is actually his son s
bride. Instead, he chooses to be relentless and even tell to her sister, Ismene, Why not? There are
other fields for him to plough. This choice was a big contributor to Creon s becoming of a tragic
hero. It shows to Antigone that he doesn t want her brother buried by any means necessary even if
it means killing his own blood. This also leads to the scene where Haemon, Creon s son, confronts
his about the killing of his bride. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are seen in their first conflict. She tells Creon that she buried her brother anyway for the
simple fact that Zeus did not announce those laws to me. And justice living with the gods below

doing the work of the gods for them, so she, in a way, is disobeying the gods. We don t know
where he got this idea from but he s been thinking he was doing the right thing all along. So with
this he eventually confirms that Antigone will die. How this advances the plot is her future
husband will come confront her about it as said in the last paragraph. This however just makes
Creon more angry and more inclined to let her

Thoroughbred horse racing is a sport full of beauty, thrill, and danger. Each horse is different, they
are built different, they have different attitudes and they have different trainers. The sport of horse
racing is where you see the unbridled speed and agility of the thoroughbreds. Well actually, today s
horseracing is where you get to see the work of the medications that have been injected inside the
horses. The medications that are inserted into these horses can make them run faster, they are
pain relievers, and they have many other effects for the good and the bad inside the horses. To
get the pure natural horse racing back, we need to take a step in preventing the use of race day
drugs. Thoroughbreds are beautiful horses mainly bred for their speed, agility, and spirit. These
Hot Blooded horses are mainly used for horseracing. The sport of horse racing is mainly simple,

are the Triple Crown Races. They start with the Kentucky Derby, in Louisville, Kentucky, then the
Preakness Stakesin Baltimore, Maryland, and lastly the Belmont Stakes in Elmont, Ney York.
The Triple Crown started in the early 1900 s. There have only been 12 horses that have won all

Summary Of Blue Collar Brilliance By Mike Rose
Summary of Blue Collar Brilliance by Mike Rose. Blue collar jobs are often viewed as a reserve
for those who do not attain the high education levels and most times considered of low
intelligence. In the article, Blue Collar Brilliance, Rose suggests that the level of intelligence
associated with blue collar jobs is higher than the society would like to appreciate and it does not
necessarily have to be acquired from formal education. The society has failed to see how those in
blue collar jobs link what they do with what they see, linking the muscle to the brain. Rose recounts
of the days he spent watching his mother, a waitress go through her work effortlessly (Rose 209).

ultimate sign of cooperation between nations that had been in constant rivalry before.
Nevertheless, the ideals of such a union cannot stand alone without having a strong foundation and

Brooklyn the place that integration could occur? After World War Two, Brooklyn had

countries (Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Malaysia), Thailand population has growth
rapidly from 20.6 million in 1950 to around 66 million in 2015 (1,2). During 1980 1991 Thailand

Cambodia, Burma and some part (states) of India as countries in Asia that got hit early by HIV
epidemic and have more than 1% prevalence of adult living with HIV (3). The first few detected
cases of AIDS in Thailand were found among men who had sex with men in 1984 (4,5), then
followed by the case among injecting drug users in 1988, but the most concerning group is
commercial sex worker (2).
After the first national sentinel survey conducted in 1989, it appears that the heterosexual
transmission through sexual activity with sex worker was the predominant mode of transmission
followed by the injecting drug transmission (4). Despite the fact that the incidence was quite high

The Victorian Era was the Golden Age for children s literature, as adults expressed childhood
innocence and purity in texts by starting again with a childlike perspective in order to engage with
the audience. Many authors sought to create books for children to further emphasis the ideals of
childhood innocence, goodness and the vision of restoring the moral wellbeing of adults and
society, such as Lewis Carroll and Robert Louis Stevenson who wrote mainly for children, tales of
adventures and child like interests. Modern day authors have also continued furthering this trend of
childhood innocence and goodness through symbolic motifs, which occurs through a character who
is naГЇve or childlike initially but develops into a mature adult such a Lucy Pevensie in The

True, genuine courage is rare, especially in children. Many feign to have this aspect, but in

An Essay On Appalachian Culture
Appalachia is a culture based upon the ancient traditions and customs that have made its way
through the years. Appalachia is a descriptive term referring to things in the Appalachian region.
The style of dance or music would be a prime example of things in that particular region. The
culture of the people began as really poor people who went West to survive on their own and
avoid tax and toleration of the Eastern States. People who are from there or native to the region
are generally close knit, and fiercely defensive of friends and family and skeptical of outsiders.
Yet, despite the lack of educational education, they had a lot of pride for who they were and their
mark in history. According to popular beliefs on Appalachia, many people are led to believe that
Appalachia is a poor and uneducated region. In the town in which I grew up, there is a place in the
town called Old Town which showcases the culture... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And many of the stories that were once told by the people are working its way out of our homes.
We only hold onto the knowledge of Appalachia and the stories that accompany each folk song.
What I ve come to see over the years is the lack of respect that we have for the Appalachian
people and the work they put into each item they present. Whether that be a pot or a basket we
need to recognize the craftsmanship that they invest to make things to eat out of or to put
things into. Many of us, like myself, was not born into the Appalachian life but yet it chooses
me. An event held every year on December 26th named Christmas Country Dance
School(CCDS). That is where you really feel a sense of getting back to your roots. All kinds of
people come together under one roof to sing, dance, tell stories, and fellowship together as one
kin. There you find a sense of belonging where you can walk into a room and really feel the
energy of people, and automatically feel as though you found a sense of

Self-Expression in Theodore Roethke s Elegy for Jane Essay
Self Expression in Theodore Roethke s Elegy for Jane
Theodore Roethke demonstrates an abiding honesty toward the facts of his experience. Roethke,
who was one of America s teaching poets before his death, was self absorbed, and his poetry
derives much of its imaginative strength from his quest for that communion joining self and
creation (Mills 527 28). In Elegy for Jane, one of his most successful poems, he blends his grief for
his student Jane Bannick with his childhood memories, his students experiences, and his role as
teacher.
Childhood memories of his father s greenhouse, field, and stand of virgin timber in Michigan s
Saginaw Valley characterize Roethke s poetry. The poet s memories provide a fund to draw from

However, the poet s grief may be the result of a mix of reality and imagination.
The teacher poet could be imagining how he would feel at the death of another of his students. At
the University of Washington, as at his other teaching posts, he enjoyed popularity with his students
and frequently formed close relationships with them; however, this was not true in the case of Jane
Bannick. Seager reveals that the poet had not known Jane very well. She was his student for only
one quarter. In addition to the grief that he felt at Jane s tragic death, his emotions may have been
stirred by the experiences of Lois Lamb, another of his students. Lamb, who fell from a horse the
previous summer, described the fall and her fears to her teacher in detail (193). Seager also
mentions that Roethke and Lamb conducted a series of `experiments with a flock of turkeys at the
Pinel Sanitarium during Roethke s 1949 50 hospitalization for manic depressive illness (187).
These visits indicate that Roethke was closer to Lamb than to Bannick. It would seem that his
relationship with Lamb would be more likely to create an awareness in the poet of the intense grief
that would result at the tragic severing of an exceptionally close teacher student bond.
Roethke finally expresses his loss and perhaps an imagined loss in terms of a unique human
relationship: neither father nor lover. As a

Case Study Of Daimlerchrysler
DaimlerChrysler s brand strategy was flawed. The new DaimlerChrysler cannibalized its own
product line, as the Mercedes M class collided with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, affecting one of
Chrysler s most profitable product lines. Chrysler was supposed to pick up small car segment, but
Chrysler brand didn t fit the small car image.
In DaimlerChrysler, there were problems in integrating the operations due to different drive
concepts. Therefore, component sharing was limited, which significantly restricted the benefit of
economies of scale that a merger could bring on.
3.3. Chrysler s consequences after merging with Daimler Benz
Daimler merged with Chrysler when Chrysler had walked to the other side of the slope glory. In
1997, Chrysler s net profit was 2.8 billion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first lesson drawn from the Airflow is that the public does not accept things that are too
strange or belong to a far future. However, in the next two decades, the company continually
pursued conservative and out of fashion designs. Chrysler has had to pay by more than half of the
market share loss in 1950s.
Chrysler is seriously suffered when Keller and the company s best engineers left for space project
of the US government. In general, the corporation has had two golden period from 1983 to 1988
and from 1993 to 2000, but all heroes that built that glory also left when Daimler Benz appeared.
In theory, the amalgamation of Chrysler and Daimler Benz can bring on a considerable
competitive advantage, especially in term of the economy of scale. Nevertheless, the synergy
savings can only be achieved if two companies can operate the business and produce vehicles more
efficiently than when they were apart. In the case of Daimler Benz and Chrysler, many conflicts
and clashes have made the integrated management impossible. Looking back, it seemed to be an
unlikely marriage at the very first

from primary sources including an investor interview and Porter s IPO prospectus, as well as
secondary sources such as newspaper articles and opponent campaigns. Using all the information at
hand, an in depth analysis of the Porter Airlines current situation and strategy is presented.
TORONTO S REGIONAL AIRLINE
Porter Airlines has been able to successfully establish itself as Toronto s short haul carrier of
choice by providing superior service while maintaining a low breakeven load factor. Porter
operates out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (BBTCA) located on an island in Toronto harbor.

Porter provides point to point transit to select cities throughout central and eastern Canada and the
north eastern U.S. The company s location is of great competitive advantage as it allows business
personnel to cut commute time spent on travelling from the airport to their office, or vice versa, in
downtown Toronto. The alternative to flying with Porter is to fly from Toronto Pearson
International Airport (YYZ), which during peak traffic, can be a multi hour commute from the
downtown core. Therefore, Porter s location is of significant strategic importance in terms of
offering value to the customer.
Porter Airlines is the subsidiary of Porter Aviation Holdings Inc. (formerly known as REGCO
Holdings), a privately held company that provides regional and commercial air transportation
services, hangars and office spaces. Moreover, it is supported by investors EdgeStone Capital

The Intake Of Food And Fluid During Labour
The intake of food and fluid during labour:
One of the most challenging stages of pregnancy can be the intrapartum period. This is the period
were a women is birthing her child, although it may be really challenging it is also the most
exciting part of pregnancy for most couples. Bridget is a twenty eight year old multiparous women
who is thirty nine weeks and five days pregnant. Bridget has been admitted into the labour ward

Lastly, a discussion about ketosis the presence of ketones in urine, which indicates the body, is
breaking down lipids as an energy source (Coad, Friedman, Geoffrin, 2012).
Early in the 1900s, women were encouraged to consume liquids for energy throughout their labour
by Dr DeLee, an American (Singata, Tranmer, Gyte, 2013). Since then the common practice
became to reduce women s intake of food and fluid during labour as a result of a study conducted
by Mendelson in the 1940 s. Mendelson found that during a caesarean section with general
anaesthetics women who had a full stomach were at a great risk of having their stomach contents
entering the lungs during their caesarean section, a condition known as aspiration, which led to
serious complications that were fatal (Singata, Tranmer, Gyte, 2013). As this was contributing to
a high number of maternal mortality and morbidity the findings of Mendelson was a turning
point for the care provided to women in labour. It led to all women labouring, regardless of their
risk status of having a caesarean section being advised to restrict their intake of foods and fluids
during labour by health care professionals (Singata, Tranmer, Gyte, 2013). However, since the 1940
s medical technology has evolved immensely and with the new modern general

Importance Of School Counseling
According to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), Today s school counselors are
vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement,
personal/social development and career development, ensuring today s students become the
productive, well adjusted adults of tomorrow (2017). The definition of a school counselorhas
changed throughout the years. There has been a shift from guidance/vocational counseling to a
more well rounded approach. Moving from guidance to counseling, means different job duties and
educational obstacles. Not only do the job responsibilities include career development, social
/emotional development, and academic achievement; included in this change is focus on student s
mental health. With the advancement of this career to the mental health field, comes with
educating stakeholders on the difference. One way to do this is by producing evidence that
counseling techniques work in a language that most stakeholders understand: academics. The
money a public school receives correlates largely with achievement. If the students do well
academically, the school becomes more attractive. Salaries are better; therefore, more qualified
teachers apply and communities become more enticing to tax paying citizens. Just the opposite,
schools that perform poorly academically have higher poverty level, lower teacher experience, and
less money paid per student by the state in which it resides. All of this

The Relationship Between Technology And Technology
Technology Me I think it goes without saying, but technology has fundamentally changed our
world. It has not only altered human communication, but has created a new form of communication
as well. Becoming more and more apparent in modern life is the fact that we are communicating
with technology itself in a multitude of different ways. The new, complicated relationship between
individual humans and elements of technologyhas been an emerging topic for many
communications theorists. In this essay, I will be taking two well held theories dealing with
communicationbetween humans and technology, and then applying it to experiences I have had in
my life.
The Theories The first theory is Media Equation Theory. In its simplest definition, the theory states
that humans interact with technology and media as if they were a human. Meaning, many of the
features of human communication are replicated in this new form of interaction. The theory was
developed by Bryon Reeves and Clifford Nass in the 1990s and has continued to gain prominence
with increased technological pervasiveness. Reeves and Nass found that humans attribute existing
social roles to this new media. Furthermore, we can view individual pieces and forms of
technology as either positive or negative. Based on our past experiences, new media can act as a
friend, an adversary, or an expert (Littlejohn, Foss, Oetzel, 2017, p. 201). However, that begs the
important question: Why do we perceive them as humanlike? There have

  • 2. Astronomer s Wife Summary Kay Boyle was born in 1902 to a middle class family in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her family was very intellectual and exposed her to the arts early in her life. At the age of 11, Boyle attended the famous Armory Show in New York. She was heavily involved with the avant garde literary scene in the United States and Paris. She was a prolific writer for important journals and wrote for the New Yorker and the Nation. Many critics feel Boyle s writing had a strong feminist sensibility and feel she preceded many other so called feminist writers. In the 1930 s many critics praised her style and the elegant use of the English language (Barnhisel). During the 1960s, she was involved in the feminist movement, civil rights, and antiwar movements. Boyle remained active in these causes until her death in 1992 (Gale). Astronomer s Wife shows how we consider the difference between body and mind. This is a story of a woman named Mrs. Ames who is dissatisfied with her marriage. She has requested a plumber come to fix a water leak in her home. Instead of letting the servant tell the plumber the issue, she follows him as he investigates the pipes. Her interaction with the plumber allows her to see that she may be able to find happiness in other places. Mrs. Ames feels her husbandis a dreamer and only concerned with mind things (Di Yanni, 63). I enjoyed reading Astronomer s Wife because of the way Boyle painted clear pictures of the characters and Mrs. Ames epiphany of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Buddhism And Shinto Similarities While I was reading these interesting stories, each story had some qualities that where similar, but there were also many differences. Which wasn t really a huge surprise since the setting of each story happened during different times, and on different parts of the planet. All the stories involved a special child, and everyone knew he was gifted. A few characters in these myths have powers, but some do not. Sikhism and Christianity seem to be based on Monotheistic viewpoint, but Buddhism and Shinto seem to be based on a polytheistic viewpoint. Each story was either about a god, or a prophet spreading his new found message to the people. Buddha, Jesus, and the Kami gods where all conceived without sex. God chose Mary to bear his son Jesus, because she was pure and holy. Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto created the Kami gods with their powers. Buddha picked the woman who he wanted to conceive him after many reincarnations, and entered inside her on a white elephant. Unlike Jesus, Buddha s mom died while he was ... • 5. Creation vs Evolution Essay There are two different beliefs of how everything came to be. One is creation. Creationalists believe in what the Bible says which is that God created everything. Another is evolution. Evolutionalists believe that there was a quot;big bang quot; which brought forth everything. In this paper, I m going to give the arguments that prove evolution wrong. One of the main things that evolutionalists have a problem with is time. They say that the world has existed for millions and billions of years. There is a couple problems with this though. The sun shrinks so much every day because it is burning up all its fuels. Scientists can calculate how big the sun was at any point in history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If they go back in time millions of years, the magnetic field would be too strong for anything to live on earth, therefore this being another reason why the earth is not that old. Evolutionists believe that humans and all other things evolved by mutation. Scientists can force mutations with radiation. Every mutation that has been made has never been good. Mutations only hurt the organism, not help it. A main part in evolution is the dating of fossils. This makes a type of circular reasoning though because of the archeologists and paleontologists. The archeologist dates the layers of the earth by the fossils that were found in it and the paleontologist dates the fossils by the layer of the earth it was found in. Another problem comes up when you talk about fossils. If the world is millions and billions of years old, there would be fossils at lots of different archeological levels. Archeologists have found that most fossils are found at the same level, which would mean that some huge natural disaster happened and killed millions of animals at one time. The Bible mentions of a great flood that wiped out millions of animals and humans. This again proves evolution wrong. A way to date old artifacts and bodies is by using the C 14 ... • 7. Post Secondary Education For The United States Post secondary education in the United States is often viewed as a necessary step towards financial security mostly for those who take part in it. The introduction of the GI Bill in the year 1944 labeled the post secondary education as a larger part of the American dream because it acted as a ticket towards economic security. Today, approximately 20 million students in the United States are in pursuit of a bachelor s degree, masters, or any other type of higher level educationsuch as certifications and specialized courses (Friss, 2012). This elevated number of students interested in becoming educated denotes that the cost of advanced education has and will simultaneously continue to increase. Therefore, this fact has its pros and cons depending on the career of choice and especially depending on how much one receives in return once entered the workforce. Students in America pursue post secondary education for a diversity of motives. Most do it for economic stability and consequently tend to develop a profession for the sake of earning an income as their primary goal. Comfortable living accompanies such motive, action which leads individuals to wish to obtain a substantial life where they may enjoy financial freedom. Some students look for a broad, liberal arts education, while others become focused on a specific career. However, there are students who simply enroll to take one or two classes for the joy of learning and/or keeping up with their skills. Great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Hot Zone Summary | Part 1, Chapter 3 Diagnosis Summary Several years later, the author visits with Dr. David Silverstein, who has gained a huge reputation in Nairobi. Silverstein relates a 2 a.m. phone call that informed him that Dr. Musoke s blood tested positive for Marburg, a virus about which little is known. It was named after a town in Germany where, in 1967, citizens contracted the virus from monkeys transported from Uganda to a local laboratory. Many of the monkeys had been brought in by a trader who was more interested in money than the health of the animals. The virus is different from most because rather than being ball shaped, it is a filovirus, or has tendrils like hair or worms that tangle together. They can also roll up into loops, a very unique trait. The other well known filovirus is Ebola. Marburg kills one in four humans who receive medical treatment and is so dangerous that the international community immediately tries to identify the source. The best they can do is to hypothesize that it was a hot island in western Africa populated by sick monkeys that were trapped and sold in other countries. This is also a popular theory about the origin of HIV and AIDS. The viruses mutate enough to spread from monkeys to humans and can have a catastrophic effect. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Role Does Ballet Play In The Swan Ballet played an enormous role in this beautiful artistic story of The Swan, for the very simple reason that every movement and every gesture signifies a different experience for someone who is opening up your mind, and eyes that they re attempting to escape death. The ballet is not about a ballerina being able to transform herself into a swan, but about death, with the swan simply being a metaphor for that. Watching Svetlana Zakharova performing The Swan she really used a combination of masterful technique with expressiveness. • 10. The Scopes Trial And Its Impact On The American Education... The Scopes Trial is a standout amongst the most well known trials in American history. The trial was a lawful case in 1925 in which a substitute high school teacher, John Scopes, was charged with violating Tennessee s Butler Act, which made it illegal to teach Darwinism in any state financed school. This trial was a gathering between various polar opposites, for example, Fundamentalism and Modernism. The clash between fundamentalism and modernism during the Scopes Trial had a significant impact on the American education system. In America, in the 1920s, two significant cultural movements arose that eventually clashed. A Christian fundamentalist movement arose in America and the fundamentalist s goal during this time was to recover and publicly institutionalize old time religious fundamental values. Fundamentalist believed in a literal interpretation of the Bible, and thus strongly objected to the teachings of Charles Darwin, since his theory of evolution contradicted the origin of man as found in the Bible. In the 1920s, the Christian fundamentalist began to gain political power across America and started passing legislation banning the teaching of Darwinism in state funded schools. At the same time cultural modernism was also rising in America. Modernist believes in a secular government and their agenda was education, democratic reforms, and economic progress. These two conflicting ideologies would inevitably clash, which occurred in the Scopes Trial of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Random Walk Down Wall Street Essay A Random Walk Down Wall Street There is a sense of complexity today that has led many to believe the individual investor has little chance of competing with professional brokers and investment firms. However, Malkiel states this is a major misconception as he explains in his book A Random Walk Down Wall Street. What does a random walk mean? The random walk means in terms of the stock market that, short term changes in stock prices cannot be predicted . So how does a rational investor determine which stocks to purchase to maximize returns? Chapter 1 begins by defining and determining the difference in investing and speculating. Investing defined by Malkiel is the method of purchasing assets to gain profit in the form of reasonably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I used the term speculated because often times these forecasts were not based on any kind of asset valuation or operating game plan. It was purely based on the hype surrounding the security. These were short term investments and were based on the premise that a buyer could pay any price for a stock as long as they expected future buyers to assign a higher value . This theory is also known as the greater fool theory. Now that the two theories have been explained, let s look at some historical examples from Malkiel that really paint the picture in chapter 2. The first speculative craze noted was over tulips in the seventeenth century in Holland. The tulips were brought from Turkey and the Dutch valued the beauty and rarity of the new flowers. Thus the prices for the flowers inflated. As the prices rose merchants would by stockpiles to sell to the public. The more expensive they got the more the public believed they were making smart investments. People would sell off the personal belongings to get their hands on the bulbs. The mania surrounding the bulbs created a bubble that would soon burst. The prices got so high some people decided to cash in and sell them to make a handsome profit. Soon others joined in causing a snowball effect and the prices tumbled. Eventually there was no demand and they were worthless. Many went ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During their first meeting, Estella often patronises Pip, commenting on his coarse hands and thick boots . These phrases show that Estella is psychologically harming Pip by breaking his heart, (the effects of this can be seen when Pip starts harming himself later when out of sight.) Also, Estella comments on Pip s phraseology as he calls knaves jacks . This also hurts Pip as he believes Estella will never be with him due to him being a commoner which deeply upsets Pip as Estella is the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. Any able bodied American that can meet the physical, emotional, and mental requirements should have the ability to serve in some capacity to include Transgender Americans. In 2011 don t ask, don t tell act was repealed (Don t Ask Don t Tell), thus allowing LGB service members to serve, but what about the T? The repeal left Transgenderservice members to continue to serve in secrecy or lose their career (Transgender Military Post DADT). Being transgender does not limit ones capacity to perform a job. Despite potential controversies in the workplace, Transgender Americans should be permitted to serve their country as they are equally as capable, and willing to give their lives for their country. Being Transgender is actually part of an umbrella term that encompasses anyone whom doesn t identify as their birth gender. Transgender, has until recent years been something not often discussed, many people not personally knowing or having met a transgender person that they know of. It is estimated 700,000 American adults, representing 0.3 percent of the nation s adult population are transgender (Medical Aspects of Transgender Military Service). Percentage wise this may not seem significant thus explaining why so little is known, however, 700,000 is a significant number of people. Abstract: This report investigates animal is cosmetic testing. The introduction outlines the focus of this report, the history of animal testing and presenting relevant case studies to illustrate the issue. The discussion provides in depth information about animal testing by presenting two sides of the story. The conclusion will highlight the main points learned to help decide if animal experiments are, indeed, necessary. Methodology: Searching online became useful for secondary sources. Websites such as BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection), which offered a useful timeline, like the Cruelty Free International campaign and how these actions contributed to stopping animal testing in the EU. Cruelty Free International is supported by a number of celebrities including Ricky Gervais and Sir Paul McCartney. PeTA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) provided information about the types and alternatives of testing. The website also listed alternatives to animal testing, such as the Human skin models, which are considered in this report. News articles by the BBC were very helpful when considering the pros and cons of animal testing. A blog by The Beauty Brains provided a scientist s opinion. • 22. Notes On On Land And Water By Kyle Dean Terrestrialization on Land or in Water By Kyle Dean Intro. The movement to land by plants has been a point of great interest for many researchers. The complexity of the situation is in the characterization of those traits that were most essential to the viability on land, and whether those traits developed prior to terrestrialization or post terrestrialization. This complexity stems from the long branch of phylogeny leading to terrestrialization having an incomplete fossil record due to environmental changes throughout time. The gold standard hypothesis on terrestrialization introduced by Bower is accepted in the scientific community as the explanation for terrestrial plant diversification of plant orders and families. Bower s hypothesis articulates, that the evolution of antithetic alternating life cycles was instrumental in adapting to the terrestrial habitat. (Harholt et al., 2016) In other words the development of the free living sporophyte and gametophyte was critical to a plants ability to live on land. This information if taken only to mean the diversification of land plant orders and families is accepted by most without question, for the alternating life cycle is imperative to suitability of land plants; however, if Bower intended for his hypothesis to be inclusive of the primordial terrestrialization then his hypothesis has encountered some criticism. The rationale behind evaluating high levels of testosterone and prostate cancer is testosterone is necessary for the development of the prostate. Elevated levels are needed for adolescent males can form their reproductive system, in which the prostate is included. In addition, testosteroneis important in the formation of the adrenal gland because testosterone, being an androgen itself, is made it the adrenal gland after puberty. The pathway begins with an androgen receptor, which binds different androgens, such as estrogen and testosterone. (Estorgen is the hormone mainly found in women although, men also have it. The form men have it in is called estradilol) The androgen receptor is recognized by the ligands 5О± dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and testosterone, which are both present in male sexual development. After the testosterone is formed it is bound to a serum sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and begins to circulate through the body. However, just because the SHBG is bound to the testosterone only the free form of testosterone can enter into the prostate. Once inside the prostate, the testosterone has changed into a more potent form of itself, allowing the prostatic cells to begin to grow. When these cells begin to grow, the prostate does as well. [2] Since testosterone is derived from a cholesterol molecule, it can easily pass through membranes, like the plasma membrane, because it is hydrophobic. Other studies believe that a mutation in the androgen receptor is found to increase the cancer stage. These mutations are found between zero to four percent in the latent stage and stage B prostate tumors. You would assume this would cause Creon to not consider killing his blood and also is actually his son s bride. Instead, he chooses to be relentless and even tell to her sister, Ismene, Why not? There are other fields for him to plough. This choice was a big contributor to Creon s becoming of a tragic hero. • 41. Crime And Punishment Analysis Bram Stoker in his novel Dracula claims that no one but a woman can help a man when he is in trouble of the heart. In Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, the women are more important and far more interesting than their male counterparts. From Dounia, Pulcheria, Katerina, and Sonia, the female characters have more impact on the outcome of the novel than the main characterRodya Raskolnikov has. In fact, one of Rodya s major reasons for committing the murder is to stop his sister Dounia from having to sell herself to a man to help support the destitute Rodya. Without his sister Dounia, there is the distinct possibility that Raskolnikov might never have been driven to commit the crime in the first place. Dounia is the kind hearted yet strong sister... She is the cause of her children s personality, and by begetting Dounia she has an even greater effect on Raskolnikov. Her own personality and her insistent coddling of her son lead to a man who has no true backbone to deal with obatacles with well adjusted plans that do not hurt anyone. She made him believe from a young age that he was extraordinary, so, it is due to her that he feels the need to test whether or not he is truly extraordinary or just regular. She is also a big part of the reason why Raskolnikov is split between confessing and staying quiet. He does not want to disappoint his mother but he also does not want to hide such a big thing from his mother. She also serves as a foil to her son. In her letter to Raskolnikov, she mentions the word love more times than it is used in the rest of the novel, and in the end, love is her downfall (Shmoop). Her own son, his hatred and pride, is her true downfall which makes her sign off on the letter to her son yours til death even more ironic (Dostoevsky ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Appalachia is a descriptive term referring to things in the Appalachian region. The style of dance or music would be a prime example of things in that particular region. The culture of the people began as really poor people who went West to survive on their own and avoid tax and toleration of the Eastern States. People who are from there or native to the region are generally close knit, and fiercely defensive of friends and family and skeptical of outsiders. Yet, despite the lack of educational education, they had a lot of pride for who they were and their mark in history. • 44. Self-Expression in Theodore Roethke s Elegy for Jane Essay Self Expression in Theodore Roethke s Elegy for Jane Theodore Roethke demonstrates an abiding honesty toward the facts of his experience. Roethke, who was one of America s teaching poets before his death, was self absorbed, and his poetry derives much of its imaginative strength from his quest for that communion joining self and creation (Mills 527 28). In Elegy for Jane, one of his most successful poems, he blends his grief for his student Jane Bannick with his childhood memories, his students experiences, and his role as teacher. Childhood memories of his father s greenhouse, field, and stand of virgin timber in Michigan s Saginaw Valley characterize Roethke s poetry. The poet s memories provide a fund to draw from for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the poet s grief may be the result of a mix of reality and imagination. The teacher poet could be imagining how he would feel at the death of another of his students. At the University of Washington, as at his other teaching posts, he enjoyed popularity with his students and frequently formed close relationships with them; however, this was not true in the case of Jane Bannick. Seager reveals that the poet had not known Jane very well. She was his student for only one quarter. In addition to the grief that he felt at Jane s tragic death, his emotions may have been stirred by the experiences of Lois Lamb, another of his students. Lamb, who fell from a horse the previous summer, described the fall and her fears to her teacher in detail (193). Seager also mentions that Roethke and Lamb conducted a series of `experiments with a flock of turkeys at the Pinel Sanitarium during Roethke s 1949 50 hospitalization for manic depressive illness (187). These visits indicate that Roethke was closer to Lamb than to Bannick. It would seem that his relationship with Lamb would be more likely to create an awareness in the poet of the intense grief that would result at the tragic severing of an exceptionally close teacher student bond. Roethke finally expresses his loss and perhaps an imagined loss in terms of a unique human relationship: neither father nor lover. As a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Early in the 1900s, women were encouraged to consume liquids for energy throughout their labour by Dr DeLee, an American (Singata, Tranmer, Gyte, 2013). Since then the common practice became to reduce women s intake of food and fluid during labour as a result of a study conducted by Mendelson in the 1940 s. Mendelson found that during a caesarean section with general anaesthetics women who had a full stomach were at a great risk of having their stomach contents entering the lungs during their caesarean section, a condition known as aspiration, which led to serious complications that were fatal (Singata, Tranmer, Gyte, 2013). As this was contributing to a high number of maternal mortality and morbidity the findings of Mendelson was a turning point for the care provided to women in labour. It led to all women labouring, regardless of their risk status of having a caesarean section being advised to restrict their intake of foods and fluids during labour by health care professionals (Singata, Tranmer, Gyte, 2013). • 48. Importance Of School Counseling According to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), Today s school counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development, ensuring today s students become the productive, well adjusted adults of tomorrow (2017). The definition of a school counselorhas changed throughout the years. There has been a shift from guidance/vocational counseling to a more well rounded approach. Moving from guidance to counseling, means different job duties and educational obstacles. Not only do the job responsibilities include career development, social /emotional development, and academic achievement; included in this change is focus on student s mental health. With the advancement of this career to the mental health field, comes with educating stakeholders on the difference. One way to do this is by producing evidence that counseling techniques work in a language that most stakeholders understand: academics. The money a public school receives correlates largely with achievement. If the students do well academically, the school becomes more attractive. Salaries are better; therefore, more qualified teachers apply and communities become more enticing to tax paying citizens. Just the opposite, schools that perform poorly academically have higher poverty level, lower teacher experience, and less money paid per student by the state in which it resides. All of this ... • 49. The Relationship Between Technology And Technology Technology Me I think it goes without saying, but technology has fundamentally changed our world. It has not only altered human communication, but has created a new form of communication as well. Becoming more and more apparent in modern life is the fact that we are communicating with technology itself in a multitude of different ways. The new, complicated relationship between individual humans and elements of technologyhas been an emerging topic for many communications theorists. In this essay, I will be taking two well held theories dealing with communicationbetween humans and technology, and then applying it to experiences I have had in my life. The Theories The first theory is Media Equation Theory. In its simplest definition, the theory states that humans interact with technology and media as if they were a human. Meaning, many of the features of human communication are replicated in this new form of interaction. The theory was developed by Bryon Reeves and Clifford Nass in the 1990s and has continued to gain prominence with increased technological pervasiveness. Reeves and Nass found that humans attribute existing social roles to this new media. Furthermore, we can view individual pieces and forms of technology as either positive or negative. Based on our past experiences, new media can act as a friend, an adversary, or an expert (Littlejohn, Foss, Oetzel, 2017, p. 201). However, that begs the important question: Why do we perceive them as humanlike? There have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
