Anorexia
 Anorexia Nervosa = "lack of appetite due
to nervous causes”.
 Not really a lack of appetite, but rather
deliberately trying to suppress.
 Distorted self image
 Extreme weight loss
 Obsession about the body and about eating
 Fear of gaining weight
 Wanting to have control of everything
 Sometimes even extremely thin people with
anorexia think they’re fat.
Bulimia
 Bulimia nervosa = “appetite as an ox
by nervous causes”
 Binge eating
 Binge eating
 Uncontrollable eating
 Consuming a large amount of food in a short
amount of time
 Vomiting after eating
 Taking laxatives
Tips to avoid
 Be happy, feel good.
 Don’t compare yourself with others, nobody is perfect.
 Vomiting is really bad for your body: you can suffer from
potassium deficiency and that may cause cardiac
dysrhythmia.
 Be a good example: stop saying you’re not happy with your
body, start enjoying life and just eat healthy.
 Focus on what you like.
 Ignore the media.
 Dinner with the entire family is good for the children’s health.
 Don’t forget the negative consequences of an eating
disorder.
 Your body needs fat in order to survive.
 Talk your problems over with somebody.
