The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

1. + Carrie 2013
Immediately we see that the tagline of the
film almost has the same font size as the
title, the reason for this could be that
because Carrie is a well known film/book
you don’t really need to express the film
title, expressing the tagline immediately
makes the audience take in account that
Carrie is the only name you’ll be hearing
in the film.
On the poster you can see blood dripping from the
actress’s face, this is effective as it shows that the
genre of this movie would be horror. For the
audience who’s been watching or reading Carrie
for a long time would know that this movie is a
supernatural horror genre.
With poster conventions there’s not that many as
you can play around with your production.
However, for official/main posters you include an
image of main character, actors, production crew,
release date, tagline and the movie title.
In this poster the actors names are in a light red so
that the audience is aware on who’s part of this
movie, also the use of the different font colour
prevents any mix up with the tagline, title and the
credits.
The font colour of the actor’s names has to be
lighter so that it does not blend in with the blood on
2. + Insidious 2010
From this poster we see that the genre is a
supernatural horror genre because of the
main image. The boy’s eyes looks like one
side is being possessed which could
suggest that the boy could have two
different sides to his character.
Also the image has been manipulated by
making the image more dark to show the
bad side of the movie.
You can see that the title of the movie has two
different font colours as the ‘si’ is in red and the rest
is in white this could be because of the meaning of
the word ‘Insidious’. This words means slowly and
secretly causing harm therefore the ‘si’ in the
beginning of causing harm ‘inside’.
This poster also includes mentions of previous
movies that the director/producer has done, this
shows that they’re well-known for movies that has
made a huge hit in supernatural horror movies. This
makes the audience of Paranormal Activity and Saw
wanting to watch this movie because they will know
that production would be suited to their taste of the
specific genre.
3. +
The Conjuring 2013
This is a teaser poster because there’s no
credits for the production crew and also it
does not include any of the actors.
The poster is very basic which makes the
audience wanting to know more about the
movie that would be coming out soon.
With the image they played around with the photo as
they used the lit up match to make the letter “i” in the
movie title. This is effective as you don’t really get many
movie posters that uses any of their movie props in their
title.
At the bottom of the poster above coming soon they
included the movie’s tagline “Based on the true case files
of the Warrens” they have included this so that the
audience knows what the movie would be about and why
the producers/editors have included this as it links to the
plot of the movie.
Compared to the main poster
of the movie this image is from
on the the scenes from the
movie when the woman’s
curiosity started to come about
and also it is one of the
significant scenes of the movie
because this is when she
realises paranormal things is
happening in her house.
4. + Paranormal
Activity: The
Marked Ones This is another teaser trailer, it does include
some credits. However, you cannot read it as
it is really small. It includes the production
labels as to which production company is
releasing this movie.
You can see from this poster it says ‘coming soon’ this
makes the audience wanting to know when it would be
released especially if they’ve watched all the paranormal
activity sequel.
The change in font colour when they mention ‘The marked
ones’ shows that this is another sequel and it is effective as
it makes the stand out more from the red font, throughout
all the paranormal activity posters they have used numbers
to indicate which sequel it is but for the last they included a
text instead of ‘5’ on its own which tells the audience that
this is the last of the paranormal activity movies.
On the top it includes the movie’s
tagline, which gives everyone the
idea on what the plot of the movie
is and also the image has a boy
that looks like he has been
possessed and he is holding a
symbol which could be the coven of
the supernatural beings.
On side of the image has given a
chiaroscuro effect to show the bad
side of the boy.
