Parthenon Vs Pantheon
The Parthenon and the Pantheon are iconic structures from ancient times. Both have suffered through
wars and turmoil over the last few millennia, as well as erosion due to natural causes, but they
continue to be masterful representations of the classical style. We see similarities between the two
with their use of classical Greek elements and intended function as temples, but there are also
differences between them.
The Parthenon, which began construction in 447 B.C., ...was designed by the architects Ictinus and
Calibrates and is considered the most perfect example of the Doric style of Greek architecture
(Moulton, 1998a). Unfortunately, much of the original building has not survived over the years, but
the Doric elements can still be clearly seen in places such as its columns. The Pantheon, which was
built between 118 128 A.D., also features elements that originated in Greece. Most prominently, it
features Corinthian columns which support it s portico, or porch. Perhaps merely a coincidence, but

the Parthenon (Moulton, 1998b). The Roman elements of the Pantheon are seen in the design of its
rotunda, a perfectly circular room 142 sq. ft. in diameter that features the world s largest unreinforced
concrete dome (ViralSpell, 2014). Speaking from personal experience, the grandeur and sheer size of
the Pantheon is truly spectacular. It is clear that the architects and designers were incredibly invested
in their project and really paid attention to the details. To think that something so magnificent and that
has endured so well over time was created thousands of years ago, is almost too hard to

Loss Of Life Exposed In Endymion By John Keats
Of all the great poets of the early nineteenth century, John Keats (1795 1821) was the last to be born
and first to die. Born in London, England, on October 31, 1795, to a poor stable keeper, John Keats
devoted his short life to the perfection of poetry marked by intense imagery, great sensuous appeal and
an attempt to express a philosophy through classical legend. Although he was brought up amid
surroundings and influences by no means calculated to awaken poetic genius. Rendered an orphan at
the tender age of eight, his father s death had a deep rooted effect on the young boy s life. In a more
metaphysical sense, it shaped his understanding of the human condition, both its suffering and its loss.
This tragedy and others helped Keats later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Increase of Unemployment in the United Kingdom
A political issue that the United Kingdom is currently facing is the increase of unemployment which is
positively helping the economy, as a result. The number of citizens not working in the UK decreased
by 63,000 to 2.33 million in only three months to January 2014, according to official figures. (BBC)
This is clearly a significant current event in UK at the moment because 7.2% of their population is
without a job. The unemployment rate in Scotland fell to 6.9%, in Wales it was 6.7% while in
Northern Ireland it was 7.5%. (BBC) Interestingly, I found that the Prime Minister David Cameron
tweeted: Another significant fall in unemployment is a sign our long term economic plan is working,
providing security and chances for hard working people. (BBC) In other words, the rising rate of
unemployment is not necessarily a clear indicator of a shattered economy. A large portion of the
unemployed are self employed businessmen or entrepreneurs working on their own ventures and have
found new ways of producing a steady income within the British economy. Ultimately, the economic
history and politics of this nation have been originated by Parliament and are the primary cause for the
rapid growth in the business market right now.
The United Kingdom was founded in 1707. This is a region which is united from three nations. These
nations are England, Wales, and Scotland. By the nineteenth century, there was speedy economic
change that heightened and secured

Critical Appreciation Of St. Thomas Aquinas
St. Thomas Aquinas, in his Summa Theologica, clearly states that self esteem, as it is understood
today, is completely incompatible with holiness. He believes that the only way self love can ever be an
orderly love is when it seeks not sensational well being (elevated self love), but only the spiritual good
of the person (holiness). St. Thomas Aquinas explains that inordinate self love is the root cause of
every sin: Every sinful act proceeds from inordinate desire for some temporal good. Now the fact that
anyone desires a temporal good inordinately is due to the fact that he loves himself inordinately; for to
wish some good to someone is to love him. Therefore it is evident that inordinate self love is the cause
of every sin (ST I II. Q77. A4.). Aquinas describes a type of egoism that causes us to turn away from
God. Having high self esteem can be associated at times with human desire of selfishness and greed.
Aquinas simply believes that every sin is a form of inordinate self love. This is a false sense of self
love.
Brother John Sica also writes in the Dominicana Journal that many people falsely think of humility as
a virtue of a low self esteem. Instead, he says, St. Thomas actually teaches us that humility is a virtue
of acknowledging the truth about reality. Since prayer, at its root, is an asking directed at God,
humility is crucially important. Through humility, we recognize our neediness before God. We are
totally and entirely dependent on God for everything and at every moment: our existence, life, breath,
every thought and action.
In similar thought, St. Augustine wrote in Book 1, Chapter I of Confessions, You have made us for
yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you. Throughout his life, he had
been a heretic and sinner with high self esteem. He liked himself, admired himself, and was proud of
the image that others had of him; this was what kept him grounded in his lifestyle. In his Confessions,
he even recalls how he saw good and knew what he had to do, but could not bring himself to do it
because he himself had woven the chains that were keeping him bound. It was when he finally
realized his miserable state that alas, his self esteem fell. He

Goophered Grapes
In the 10 years between the publication of The Goophered Grapevine, Chesnutt s first conjure tale, and
the composition of The Dumb Witness, the development of segregation culture had even more firmly
cemented the popular notions of black and white identifies in the United States. (Robison 61)
Charles Chesnutt is credited as a pro black writer for first being an African American writer and then
presenting the African American experience for the further humanizing of blacks in the United States.
Much of Chesnutt s work was drawn from his own experience as a fair skinned black person as

Also, there are many black writers that wrote very empowering pieces that did succeed at presenting
and demonstrating the black experience like Toni Morrison, Zora Hurston and Langston Hughes. But
for those that do subscribe to the idea that being able to speak standard American English makes a
person better , like many Americans, black and white did at that time and still do, by showing the
contrast of Chesnutt s extremely harsh dialect of Julius, which indulges a scholarly predilection for the
obscure or exotic , to that of the narrator further enforces and encourages that negative social construct
(Bodie). Speaking of Americans that might have subscribed to this idea, let s take a moment to
consider who would be reading this text.

1.1 History of Vehicle Painting in Pakistan
The extraordinary tradition of decorating trucks has its roots in the days of the British Raj when
craftsmen made glorious horse drawn carriages for the gentry. The 1920s the Kohistan Bus Company

technological motifs like airports and trains can also be found.
Two basic types of paintings can be distinguished in the way the truck sides are done. The first is
simple painting , which is basically a picture on each segment on the sides with some additional
ornaments. The second type, which leaves no square inch uncovered, is the Disco Painting . These
disco trucks are the real master pieces. Every time you look at them, you discover new images and
decorations. But whether simple or disco , the paintings on the sides are never identical, and not only
because the name of the owing company is written in Urdu on one side and in Roman on the other.

The Transition Of Internet Through Ipv4 Ipv6
Abstract
The transition of Internet from Ipv4 to Ipv6 is insistent and ineluctable. We can see a couple of
solutions for this proposed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Even though have not
proved to be a success when it comes to the virtual world. And still we can see that researches are
going on for the solution nowadays. The solution includes direct influence on many aspects of
networking such as provisioning, network performance and training. In this article we mainly discuss
on the IPv6 transition solutions. We first briefly discusses IPv6 transition solutions, which will
highlight the demands and then the security flaws faced by them.
Introduction
IPV4 vs IPV6
Ipv4 remains for Internet Protocol form 4. It is the underlying engineering that makes it workable for
us to interface our gadgets to the web. Ipv4 utilizes a 32 bit location space, in which can suit around 4
billion remarkable locations. While that sounds generous, the functional number of usable locations is
really much lower. The current Internet has become much bigger than was anticipated. There are a few
issues, for example, approaching depletion of the Ipv4 location space, arrangement and complexities
and poor security at the IP level. (PARR, 2011)
In the early 90 s, to overcome these issues IETF (Web Building Team (IETF), started making an
exchange IP Convention named specific Ipv6. Ipv6 is the sixth update to the Web Convention and the
successor to Ipv4. It works also to Ipv4 in that it

the playing ninepins, the greediness shows itself in inside of Rip which makes him secretly drink the

Periosteum
Periosteum
Periosteum is a dense layer of connective tissue. It is very thin and is on the outside of the bone. It

Working with Pune University in the same capacity as my present position, I have seen both types of
organizations functioning. In my view, salaries being disclosed lead to many power struggles but can

In my view, I think salaries being secret is a better option since the latter of the 2 possibilities is a

The Munitions Maker What did the archaeologists find at the excavation conducted in the cabin area?
Have you ever wondered what a blacksmith and munitions maker at a Sugar Plantation in the 1800s

worked lead, manufactured lead shot, and possibly other metals. This cabin is now called the Smith s
Cabin . At the Plantation, western artifacts used in African cultural context have been found during the
excavation. Indications from these artifacts show that although these African and African Americans
were no longer in their original cultural context, they still maintained some of their African cultural
beliefs. The excavation of the Munition Makers cabin revealed information about the Munitions

domestics consisted of pigs and cattle, although some of the pigs might have been feral (feral existing

Exclusive Breastfeeding And Infant Mortality
Exclusive Breastfeeding and Infant Mortality: If We Nudge, Will Mothers Budge?
Section I: Introduction
West Africa has the highest infant mortality rate in the world for every 1000 live births, 70 children
die before their first birthday (Wang, 2014). National infant mortality rates vary from 18.8 deaths per
1000 live births in Cape Verde to 89.9 deaths per 1000 live births in Guinea Bissau. Nonetheless, the
leading causes of infant mortality are largely the same across the region: neonatal conditions (26
percent), malaria (21 percent), pneumonia (21 percent), diarrhea (17 percent), measles (6 percent) and
HIV/AIDS (4 percent). The desired children hypothesis of fertility asserts that high fertility primarily
reflects desired number of children (Pritchett, 1994). In this regard, high infant mortality may motivate
women to have more children to attain their preferred family size. Thus aside the important population
health implications of reducing high infant mortality rates, demographic theory predicts that improved
child survival is accompanied by declines in fertility reflecting reduced demand for replacement births
to achieve a given target family size. The influence of reduced infant mortality on fertility decline has
also been established empirically in a wide range of settings (Barnum, 1988). Declines in infant
mortality, falls in fertility rates, and lower average family sizes lead to changes in population age
structure and stimulate increased female labor

An Example About Prostate Cancer
If we take a look at an example about prostate cancer, with the data collected by Hastie, Tibshirani,
Friedman in The Elements of Statistical Learning [2] and view the scatterplot in figure 1.1, we can see
that the dependent variable, the log of the prostate specific antigen (lpsa) has a strong positive
correlation particularly with lcavol (the log cancer volume) and lcp (the log of capsular penetration)
with weaker but still strong correlations with the other dependent variables, log prostate weight
(lweight), age, log of the amount of benign prostatic hyperplasia (lbph), and percent of Gleason scores
4 or 5 (pgg45), but not the svi (seminal vesicle invasion) and gleason (gleason score) as these are
categorical variables [2]. Below figures 1.2 and 1.3 were fit with all variables and figures 1.4 and 1.5
were simplified by removing variables that had high p values until I felt that the model was better
improved and they were fit thereafter. When we plot the fitted values against the residuals, if there is
linearity, we should get an even spread around the line at 0. If we look at figures 1.2 and 1.4, for
which the R coding can be found in the appendix below (section 7), we can see that they both seem to
have linearity with figure 1.2 having possible outliers further away from the line and figure 1.4 having
a more even spread. Taking a look at figure 1.3 we can see that there is a particularly good fit along
the middle but the tails have fairly large variation, suggesting a

The Testament Of The Old Testament Essay
1. The Old Testament consisted of a set of the spiritual text of documentations, which were written by
different people at various times to a different audience. Most of the Old Testament contains short
stories of traditional stories and those stories of distinguish ways God established mankind. These
stories are often told to the people in narrative form, which are guidelines often referred to as laws,
songs, genealogies, and list from these authors that composed the Old Testaments. The pressing of set
documentation is essential because it is the framework for the lives of Gods followers. The term Old
Testament originated as a means to express spoken traditions and Gods creation from that particular
era. It is a method of philosophical investigation was designed to answer the why questions within
these spiritual text documentations. These religious documentations consist of four parts. These four
sections include the Old Testaments are the laws, history, wisdom and prophecy. The laws are a rule of
behavior enforced within the community. The rules are sometimes called Torah. When analyzing these
Torah, these rules were located in the first five spiritual books of the Bible. For example, in the first
Torah in Genesis, it explains the creation, Noah s Flood, Abraham and Isaac, and Joseph s coats of
many colors. However, the laws in Exodus were in regards to the going out. The going out took about
40 plus years, until the people were lead to the promise land of God.

Stereotypical Judgement Essay
Who are you? Who am I? We are different, but we get judged, every day, every hour, every minute
people judge you, on your appearance, on your style, on your attributes. Yet they don t even know
you. It is proven that in the first few moments of meeting someone, we form an opinion of them. Our
society s biggest downfall is that we define people on stereotypical judgements. One of the clearest
examples in today s society is Donald Trump. He claims to ban all Muslims to enter the USA. That is
a stereotypical judgment that he has towards Muslims. He believes all Muslims are terrorist, as per
CNN report Islam is the fastest growing religion in the US; and according to their report, in the USA
some top Doctors and Engineers believe in Islam. So where does he get his claims from? Why does he
create these stereotypical judgements against them? Why can t he work along with them so that we
can live in a better world?
We judge people by their race, we judge people by where they come from, we judge people by the
way they speak. Today, we say all Muslims are terrorist, well if that was the case, wouldn t all
Christians be in the KKK, if this was true we would probably be dead. There are about 2 billion
Muslims in the world, that s about 29% of the world s population; if they all were terrorists the odds of
our survival are slim. We judge a race on the acts of a few, what if not every Muslim we saw was
planning to kill us, what if they are everyday people like you and me. We have put

Family Guy Created in 1999 by Seth MacFarlane, Family Guy is an adult animated cartoon,
commonly aired on FOX ( Family Guy ). Since its start, 269 episodes have been created; each
teetering on the edge of morality and ethics. It is true that Family Guy is a chat topping, clever, and
properly thought out cartoon; however, it s easy to discern the creator s common use of inappropriate
topics and remarks. Every episode is a new story into the craziness and chaos of the town. This
cartoon is about a small family living on Spooner Street in a made up town called Quahog in Rhode

may view this as offensive, because John F Kennedy was a widely liked president who was
assassinated from a shot to the head back in the year 1963 ( John F. Kennedy ). Bobby Kennedy was
JFK s younger brother, was also shot to death five years later ( Robert F. Kennedy ). In another
episode, Peter is on a boat, standing on a stage. He introduces Mr. Bruce Jenner. Bruce Jenner walks
out in shorts carrying a pink feather boa. He starts dancing for a group of sailors, who are awestruck
by the performance. This episode came out in 2011 ( Lottery Fever ), while Bruce did not announce
that he was going to transition to female until 2015 ( Caitlyn Jenner ). Some would say that it pokes
fun at the idea of being gay because it is still an arguable topic. Lastly, there s a scene where Osama
Bin Laden is trying to film a video to send to Americans. He has a very serious attitude, and then starts
laughing and grabs a rubber chicken. This is incredibly offensive to most people, because Bin Laden
helped with the planning of 9/11. Family Guy has no restrictions on humor, and will use any horrible
or disgusting event for their show.

Sociological Portrait Research Paper
A sociological portrait serves to illuminate one s life and show how their identity and experience in
life or an aspect of life has been shaped by the micro environment factors. These factors could be
social class, ethnicity, race, and gender among others. Each of these environmental factors plays a
critical role in determining one s identity. For instance, one s family experience is largely determined

First, gender influences the roles that Mary is expected to undertake in the society. Given that she is a
lady, the role of the breadwinner is left for her father. She is expected in contributing towards ensuring
that her little sister Ann stays grounded and behaves in a respectful and expected manner. In the
family, Mary is expected to take a role in helping out in domestic duties. Together with her sister, she
is expected to help out in house chores. Such roles reinforce the traditional gender roles that women
are required to undertake. They serve to indicate the stereotypical assumptions that women are
supposed to take on the domestic house chores such as cooking and cleaning while the boys undertake
the more interesting duties or wait around to be served (Lindsey, 2015). Essentially, it ties down the
women as indicated by the role that Mary s mother has taken in the household. While her father takes
on the important task of being a breadwinner and has a job, Mary s mother remains at home to cater
for the family. This is a communication enough to Mary and her sister that the women rank slightly
lower than the men. As such, they are bound to have a family experience that is torn between trying to
prove the males wrong by excelling in school and trying to conform to the gender enforced rules that
dictate that women are supposed to mainly help out at

Silent Film, Martyrs of the Alamo, Loosely Depicts the...
Martyrs of the Alamo is a silent film that not only loosely depicts the historical event of the Battle at
the Alamo but it perpetuates ethnic stereotypes of Mexicans to build a sense of nationalism in the early
1900 s. Researchers Ford and Harawa argue in their academic journal that ethnicity can be broken
down into two dimensions, relational and attributional. The relational dimension pertains to the
relationship dynamics between an ethnic group and the society they live in. These relationships can be
shown through different societal institutions; such as, the educational system, judicial system and even
the film industry. As stated by Dr. Keeling, the film industry can be seen as an institution that produces

By using the Mexican solider and the small child it can allude to the harm that can be done to the
United States. The child can symbolize the future of America and the cost that can be paid if
Americans do not fight for what is theirs. By instilling fear, Griffin could spark Americans to react and
feel that it is their duty to protect their country. We see a large contrast between the American
characters and Mexican characters in the film. The American characters are chivalrous, courageous
and dressed in a typical Western fashion; raccoon fur hats, formal wear or button down shirts while the
Mexican characters are depicted as cowards and womanizing drunks in sombreros, ponchos or soldier
uniforms with darkened skin. These negative depictions of Mexicans are used as a contrast from this
perfect image of what it is to be American . For example, the General Santa Ana is portrayed to be a
weak leader who is detached from the battle and who is preoccupied with exploiting women. In
contrast to Davy Crockett who is able to band together with others to fight and protect Texas while on
the battle front. Griffin uses these historic Alamo figures to emulate what it means to belong to
America. The idea of Americans not backing down against a threat is portrayed through figures like
Davy Crocket. These negative portrayals of Mexicans fuels an already existing stigma. Griffin
reinforces these archetypes through film and this in turn can lead to the

The Effects Of Mild Cognitive Impairment
Over the last several decades, one of the diseases that continues to cause concern and difficulties
during the later years of life is mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Mild cognitive impairment ranges
from minimal loss of cognitive problems to the point it changes normal life. Large changes in our
demographics have occurred during the twentieth century. Life expectancy has increased by over
thirty years. When you factor in the increase of fertility problems, the age groupings shift dramatically
(Mohajeri, Troesch, Weber, 2014). These changes impact the demand for health and long term care, as
well as expenses for pensions and social security (Mohajeri, et al., 2014). Another factor adding to this
situation is, health expectancy is 8 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This research paper will explore current findings in the area of nutrition, and its effects on the
cognitive brain functions of the over fifty year old adult.
What factors impact Mild Cognitive Impairment?
Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a newly recognized medical condition that involves the stage
between normal, age related cognitive decline and more serious decline associated with dementia.
People with MCI can have problems with memory, language, thinking, and judgement that generally
aren t severe enough to cause significant problems in their day to day lives and usual activities
(Murray, 2014).
Senior adults who have MCI are more likely to develop Alzheimer s disease, or another form of
dementia, but it is not a certainty that everyone with MCI will get Alzheimer s. MCI is a new
diagnosis, so drug companies are busy formulating drugs to fill the needs of the senior adults who are
actively looking for help. Medications currently used for Alzheimer s are known as cognitive
enhancers and they are being used to treat MCI. But, studies do not show any benefit and the side
effects can cause even more problems. One of the drugs, tacrine (Cognex), has already been taken off
the market (Murray, 2014).
Nutrition is being examined as a factor that can impact the brain. Brain cells are the most complex,
long living and nutritionally demanding cells in the body (Murray, 2014). These cells are impacted by

The s Compensation System, A Dual Structured, Job Based Plan
Previously in Phase I, FastCat s compensation system was identified as a dual structured, job based
plan. Job evaluation points were used to measure the values for each of the FastCat jobs. Each job was
assigned these evaluation points based on the five compensable factors discussed in Phase I. The
assigned points are used to create a fair compensation system and remain internally aligned. FastCat s
goal is to match the market, or pay the average level for similar jobs within the market rate. In Phase
II of FastCat s compensation system, a dual focus on the base pay and providing incentives for their
employees was recommended. It is ideal for FastCat to match the market to maintain their
competitiveness. This pay policy is most suitable because it will maximize FastCat s ability to attract
and keep good employees, while still being within the company s ability to pay its expenses. Also, this
pay structure will link pay to performance. This will assist FastCat with improving their employee
engagement, motivation, rewarding performances, and increasing productivity. Balancing the
profitability of the company with the pay structure of their employees will greatly regulate the future
success of FastCat. Strategy on External Competitiveness The overall compensation strategy for
FastCat consists of three aspects: pay level, pay mix, and how to integrate internal and external
structure. The pay level generally refers to the average pay of the entire company. The choice

Adrenal Glands
Adrenaline is a hormone that the adrenal glands produce. They are produced during times of stress or
excitement. This is a powerful hormone that is a part of the body s flight or fight response. It works by
diluting air passages, contracting blood vessels and stimulating the heart. This helps supply the lungs
with more oxygen and increase blood flow to the muscles. What Are The Adrenal Glands? The adrenal
glands can be found above the kidneys. They are about three inches long. Adrenaline is one of the
hormones that these glands release. Dopamine, adrenaline and norepinephrine are catacholomines
which are hormones that the body releases during times of stress. These hormones affect different
tissues in the body. They prepare the body to react ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The body reacts shortly, which gives a person a boost that is nearly instant. Speed and strength
increase. Pain response decreases. This hormonal surge is often called an adrenaline rush. Side Effects
Not only does a person notice an increase in performance and strength, but he or she will also
experience increased respiration and heightened awareness. The person may also feel dizzy,
lightheaded and experience vision changes. The effects may last up to one hour. If a person is stressed
but not actually in danger, then he or she may feel irritable and tired. This is because adrenaline
stimulates the release of glucose and raises blood sugar. Many people find that working off this
adrenaline rush is beneficial after a stressful situation. In the past, people would handle stressful
situations by fighting. However, stressful situations in the modern world may not involve physical
activity. Extra energy can be used up through exercise. Even though adrenaline can be useful for
helping a person survive, it can be harmful over time. This hormone can put a lot of stress on the
heart. Excessive adrenaline can lead to heart failure. High levels of adrenaline can also cause insomnia

Essay about Conflict Theory in Vietnam
The history of Vietnam is one of great struggle and conflict. For centuries the vietnamese people have
had no choice but to change their society by force in order to gain their own freedom and
independence. Pivitol events in Vietnamese history such as the Battle of Bach Dang in 939 and the
Battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 are examples of how the conflict theory brought change to
Vietnamese society and culture.
For centuries Vietnam had been under Chinese rule. The Vietnamese people were an oppressed society
and were exploited by the Chinese. Forced labour was brought upon the Vietnamese people, and there
were many tyrannical Chinese governers along with constant demands of tribute for the Chinese
rulers. There had been many revolts by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vietnam was a soveriegn nation until 18th century.
This dramatic change which occurred in less than 25 years is all due to the conflict theory. Without the
Battle of Bach Dang it is possible that Vietnam could still be under Chinese rule and the people would
continue to be exploited.
The French colonized Vietnam in two phases. The first occuring between 1859 1862 by occupying
Saigon and surrounding areas in Mekong. In 1883 they annexed the Hanoi and Tonkin regions.
In the early years of French rule, French administrators planned to change Vietnam socially, politically
and economically. No respect was given to the Vietnamese people or their culture. Court officials (
called manderines ) were forced to report to colonial officials instead of the king, diminishing much of
the kings power and role in society. High costs of colonial administrators caused the French to put
high taxes on salt, opium, alcohol and land. Forced labour was also re introduced. French rule had left
the Vietnamese people and their culture impoverished and very much opressed. By 1940 half of
Vietnamese s population was landless. This is was one of the many crippling effects of French
colonial rule in Vietnam.
Although there had been many uprisings, protests and guerrilla groups formed to attempt to over
throw the French, none were successful, and all attempts were crushed by the French military.
In the early 20th Century many more national groups formed.

Surrealism and Film Essay
Surrealism is a movement that built off of the burgeoning look into art, psychology, and the workings
of the mind. Popularly associated with the works of Salvador Dali, Surrealist art takes imagery and
ideology and creates correlation where there is none, creating new forms of art. In this essay I will
look to explore the inception of the surrealist movement, including the Surrealist Manifesto, to stress
the importance of these artists and their work in the 20th century and beyond. I also will look to films
from our European Cinema course to express how films incorporate the influence of surrealism both
intentionally and unintentionally.
To begin, we will look at the ideals and influences that led to the formation of surrealist ideals, ...

Coupled with the use of unusual concepts of artistic expression, as well as experiments in form and
content, surrealism sought to exploit the unrealized and unexplored spaces of art in often shocking and
controversial ways.
Often inspired by the repression of unconscious observations, surrealist art and writing often contains
no discernable organization or structure, and is open to the imagination and the world of the private
mind (metmuseum), an antithesis of traditional art based on rationality, reason, and societal norms.
These concepts were what the surrealists sought to upend in their manifesto, and thus much of their
work, such as Rene Magritte s La Trahison des Images or Marcel Duchamp s Bride Stripped Bare by
Her Bachelors, Even (The Large Glass) sought to overturn the world view of scientific positivism,
exposing the dogmatic conceptions of vision and language, the supposed guarantors of truth and
being, as arbitrary, deceptive tools of modernity s oppressive rational ideology (sensesofcinema).
Additionally, surrealism intended to capture freedom of the mind and imagination that modern logic
and reason suppressed through constraints of social norms and expectations. These modern patterns of
thought, in the eyes of surrealists, were influenced by social doctrine (surrealism lecture) and thus
needed to be undermined in order to discover the true unconscious perception of reality

Mechanisms Involved Into Wound Healing And Heart Function
Project Summary
Mechanisms involved in wound healing and heart function are essential for the survival of mammalian
species. The treatment of ischaemic heart disease and myocardial tissue regeneration remains poorly
understood. Mesenchymal stem cells possess the ability to differentiate into various tissue types,
including hematopoiesis, cardiogenesis, vasculogenesis, and neuronal development, as well as
endothelial progenitor cells. In addition to its multipotent capability, the mesenchymal stem cell
(MSC) can secrete and supply a large amount of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) (Tang J et
al., 2009). This response can be overexpressed, resulting in tumor formation. The stromal derived
factor 1 alpha (SDF 1α) plays an important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Primary research for this proposal suggests SDF 1α and VEGF play a key role in stem cell recruitment
and myocardial regeneration. Increased expression of of SDF 1α through Ad SDF 1alpha (adenoviral
vector containing human SDF 1alpha gene under the control of the rous sarcoma virus (RSV)
promoter) through injection into myocardial tissue promotes angiogenesis in damaged tissue. It is
suggested that SDF 1 gene expression is regulated by the transcription factor hypoxia inducible factor
1 (HIF 1) in endothelial cells, resulting in selective in vivo expression of SDF 1 in ischemic tissue in
direct proportion to reduced oxygen tension (Ceradini DJ, 2004). VEGF secreted by MSC s is thought
to enhance expression of SDF 1α. Increased expression of SDF 1α in the presence of transplanted
MSC s could potentially promote differentiation of MSC s into myocytes, leading to regeneration of
myocardial tissue leading to improved heart function.
Specific Aims
The aim of this research is to investigate if and how co transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells,
varying in quantity transplanted, in combination with overexpression of VEGF, SDF 1α, enhance
differentiation and recruitment leading to cardiac repair in LAD occluded rats.

Indonesia Essay
An economist in Indonesia, Frank Jotzo, presents a thorough report of President Susilo Bambang
Yudhoyono and his government s targeted emission reduction objectives, examining ways in which
they can be achieved (Mayer, Ryan, Aspinall, 2011). Indonesia is one of few developing countries to
announce the massive cut to their greenhouse gas emissions, showing their intense commitment to
help provide a solution to this global crisis. Now, Indonesia is taking a seat with the major countries
with equivalent climate pledges, By choosing to join this group of major countries with climate
pledges, Indonesia sent an important signal about the country s readiness to engage on this global
issue. Taking this stance was also in line with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, Indonesia spearheaded movements worldwide on this crucial international matter during
the complicated negotiations in Bali. President Yudhoyono aspired to acquire the United Nations
Secretary General s position for the 2017 to 2022 term, so the Pittsburgh twenty six to forty one
percent target displayed a desired spotlight onto him on a global level. Lastly, another facet that
contributes to Indonesia s eagerness to get involved on climate change internationally is universal
citizenship and global prestige; the emissions target was a logical conclusion to its engagement in
international climate negotiations, following on from its diplomatic success with the 2007 UN climate
conference in Bali (Jotzo, 2011).
Indonesia is eager to address this global problem and has been very forward in expressing the vast
importance to tackle this issue before it continues to worsen with time. Indonesia is considered one of
the largest greenhouse gas emitters in the world, reaching a total of 2.05 gigatons emitted in 2005
(Forests and Landscapes in Indonesia.). Climate change is a worldwide issue, which Indonesia
recognizes and is taking action to help reduce their emissions to save the planet. Suzanty Sitorus is

Iluvatar Research Paper
The manifestation of evil in Middle Earth is evident in many of the themes that curse throughout its
history. Envy, greed, and revenge are at the root of the many evils that befell the inhabitants of Arda.
When analyzing said themes in an attempt to better understand Middle Earth and its
Peoples, it becomes apparent that evil shows itself in many ways and has many faces.
The most glaring and obvious example of how evil manifests itself in the creation of the world is
through Melkor. Beginning with the music of the Ainur and the themes that Iluvatar presents, Melkor
first brings about discord in the creation of the world by greedily seeking to increase his power
through the manipulation of the music, as well as, the other Ainur (The Silmarillion, ... Show more

Melkor first gave evil a voice through the envy he had for Iluvatars powers (p.4), for the bliss of the
Valar and the beauty of the world and the choices he made to stray from Iluvatars light (The
Silmarillion, p.11). The envy that festered within him gave way to something very dark and terrible
and led to the first battle between the Valar and Melkor where all the light and beauty the Valar had
worked so diligently to create was destroyed (The Silmarillion, p.12). The destruction of all things
held dear by the Valar, and the darkness that followed did not quell Melkor s envy and greed and
instead helped to fuel and strengthen his resolve. Furthermore, evil once again manifested itself
through this envy and greed regarding Melkor s desire for the Imperishable Flame that he alone could
not posses (The Silmarillion, p.23). Envy and greed, in the early days, were often the vessels in which
evil worked, and Melkor and his discontent provided the perfect opportunity for this evil to have a

The Kite Runner Film
Jack and Alex walked out of the theater, pondering their thoughts on the film they d just seen. The
Kite Runner, a film about a boy not standing up for his best friend, trying to forget his guilt and
eventually embarking on a dangerous journey to try to redeem himself.
Wow, that movie was such an eye opener! I had no idea what Afghan culture was about, let alone the
hardships and struggles people faced, said Alex, But it was really about guilt and atonement I guess.
What did you like the best Jack?,
The relationship between Amir and Hassan. It s so different from any relationship I ve experienced.
Amir and Hassan are as closeas a servant and master can be, yet Amir acts like Hassan, a Hazara, is
beneath him. Amir never learns to assert himself against anyone else because Hassan always defends
him. I think these factors play into his childhood cowardice of sacrificing Hassan. Hassan however
remains loyal, forgiving, and good natured, replied Jack. So what do you think of their friendship?
Well I think Hassan and Amir were brothers from the start, before their relationship decayed after
Hassan was raped. Foster uses the pomegranate tree symbolizes the friendship. Amir even carves on
the tree Amir and Hassan, the sultans of Kabul which formalizes their friendship and shows they are
as close as brothers. Then After Hassan s rape, Amir throws pomegranates at Hassan hoping that
Hassan will hit him back and free him from his guilt. Hassan then crushes a pomegranate

  • 2. Parthenon Vs Pantheon The Parthenon and the Pantheon are iconic structures from ancient times. Both have suffered through wars and turmoil over the last few millennia, as well as erosion due to natural causes, but they continue to be masterful representations of the classical style. We see similarities between the two with their use of classical Greek elements and intended function as temples, but there are also differences between them. The Parthenon, which began construction in 447 B.C., ...was designed by the architects Ictinus and Calibrates and is considered the most perfect example of the Doric style of Greek architecture (Moulton, 1998a). Unfortunately, much of the original building has not survived over the years, but the Doric elements can still be clearly seen in places such as its columns. The Pantheon, which was built between 118 128 A.D., also features elements that originated in Greece. Most prominently, it features Corinthian columns which support it s portico, or porch. Perhaps merely a coincidence, but some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... the Parthenon (Moulton, 1998b). The Roman elements of the Pantheon are seen in the design of its rotunda, a perfectly circular room 142 sq. ft. in diameter that features the world s largest unreinforced concrete dome (ViralSpell, 2014). Speaking from personal experience, the grandeur and sheer size of the Pantheon is truly spectacular. It is clear that the architects and designers were incredibly invested in their project and really paid attention to the details. To think that something so magnificent and that has endured so well over time was created thousands of years ago, is almost too hard to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Loss Of Life Exposed In Endymion By John Keats Of all the great poets of the early nineteenth century, John Keats (1795 1821) was the last to be born and first to die. Born in London, England, on October 31, 1795, to a poor stable keeper, John Keats devoted his short life to the perfection of poetry marked by intense imagery, great sensuous appeal and an attempt to express a philosophy through classical legend. Although he was brought up amid surroundings and influences by no means calculated to awaken poetic genius. Rendered an orphan at the tender age of eight, his father s death had a deep rooted effect on the young boy s life. In a more metaphysical sense, it shaped his understanding of the human condition, both its suffering and its loss. This tragedy and others helped Keats later ... • 4. Increase of Unemployment in the United Kingdom A political issue that the United Kingdom is currently facing is the increase of unemployment which is positively helping the economy, as a result. The number of citizens not working in the UK decreased by 63,000 to 2.33 million in only three months to January 2014, according to official figures. (BBC) This is clearly a significant current event in UK at the moment because 7.2% of their population is without a job. The unemployment rate in Scotland fell to 6.9%, in Wales it was 6.7% while in Northern Ireland it was 7.5%. (BBC) Interestingly, I found that the Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted: Another significant fall in unemployment is a sign our long term economic plan is working, providing security and chances for hard working people. (BBC) In other words, the rising rate of unemployment is not necessarily a clear indicator of a shattered economy. A large portion of the unemployed are self employed businessmen or entrepreneurs working on their own ventures and have found new ways of producing a steady income within the British economy. Ultimately, the economic history and politics of this nation have been originated by Parliament and are the primary cause for the rapid growth in the business market right now. The United Kingdom was founded in 1707. This is a region which is united from three nations. These nations are England, Wales, and Scotland. By the nineteenth century, there was speedy economic change that heightened and secured ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Critical Appreciation Of St. Thomas Aquinas St. Thomas Aquinas, in his Summa Theologica, clearly states that self esteem, as it is understood today, is completely incompatible with holiness. He believes that the only way self love can ever be an orderly love is when it seeks not sensational well being (elevated self love), but only the spiritual good of the person (holiness). St. Thomas Aquinas explains that inordinate self love is the root cause of every sin: Every sinful act proceeds from inordinate desire for some temporal good. Now the fact that anyone desires a temporal good inordinately is due to the fact that he loves himself inordinately; for to wish some good to someone is to love him. Therefore it is evident that inordinate self love is the cause of every sin (ST I II. Q77. A4.). Aquinas describes a type of egoism that causes us to turn away from God. Having high self esteem can be associated at times with human desire of selfishness and greed. Aquinas simply believes that every sin is a form of inordinate self love. This is a false sense of self love. Brother John Sica also writes in the Dominicana Journal that many people falsely think of humility as a virtue of a low self esteem. Instead, he says, St. Thomas actually teaches us that humility is a virtue of acknowledging the truth about reality. Since prayer, at its root, is an asking directed at God, humility is crucially important. Through humility, we recognize our neediness before God. We are totally and entirely dependent on God for everything and at every moment: our existence, life, breath, every thought and action. In similar thought, St. Augustine wrote in Book 1, Chapter I of Confessions, You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you. Throughout his life, he had been a heretic and sinner with high self esteem. He liked himself, admired himself, and was proud of the image that others had of him; this was what kept him grounded in his lifestyle. In his Confessions, he even recalls how he saw good and knew what he had to do, but could not bring himself to do it because he himself had woven the chains that were keeping him bound. It was when he finally realized his miserable state that alas, his self esteem fell. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Goophered Grapes Pre Ready 1 Essay example James Campbell Dr. West Afro Am Lit 7/19/12 Goophered Grapes In the 10 years between the publication of The Goophered Grapevine, Chesnutt s first conjure tale, and the composition of The Dumb Witness, the development of segregation culture had even more firmly cemented the popular notions of black and white identifies in the United States. (Robison 61) Charles Chesnutt is credited as a pro black writer for first being an African American writer and then presenting the African American experience for the further humanizing of blacks in the United States. Much of Chesnutt s work was drawn from his own experience as a fair skinned black person as revealed by Mary Zeigler in her article, History And Background Of The Charles W. Chesnutt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, there are many black writers that wrote very empowering pieces that did succeed at presenting and demonstrating the black experience like Toni Morrison, Zora Hurston and Langston Hughes. But for those that do subscribe to the idea that being able to speak standard American English makes a person better , like many Americans, black and white did at that time and still do, by showing the contrast of Chesnutt s extremely harsh dialect of Julius, which indulges a scholarly predilection for the obscure or exotic , to that of the narrator further enforces and encourages that negative social construct (Bodie). Speaking of Americans that might have subscribed to this idea, let s take a moment to consider who would be reading this text. The Atlantic Monthly is a Bostonian publication that centered on politics, literature, science and the arts. While these topics are not reserved for our society s elite so much these days, it was much more so back then and the creators of the magazine definitely thought of themselves as part of our nation s cultural elite. Even to this day, at least some of the staff at The Atlantic feel this way. We can see a couple of solutions for this proposed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Even though have not proved to be a success when it comes to the virtual world. And still we can see that researches are going on for the solution nowadays. The solution includes direct influence on many aspects of networking such as provisioning, network performance and training. In this article we mainly discuss on the IPv6 transition solutions. We first briefly discusses IPv6 transition solutions, which will highlight the demands and then the security flaws faced by them. Introduction IPV4 vs IPV6 Ipv4 remains for Internet Protocol form 4. It is the underlying engineering that makes it workable for us to interface our gadgets to the web. Ipv4 utilizes a 32 bit location space, in which can suit around 4 billion remarkable locations. While that sounds generous, the functional number of usable locations is really much lower. The current Internet has become much bigger than was anticipated. There are a few issues, for example, approaching depletion of the Ipv4 location space, arrangement and complexities and poor security at the IP level. (PARR, 2011) In the early 90 s, to overcome these issues IETF (Web Building Team (IETF), started making an exchange IP Convention named specific Ipv6. Ipv6 is the sixth update to the Web Convention and the successor to Ipv4. It works also to Ipv4 in that it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Have you ever wondered what a blacksmith and munitions maker at a Sugar Plantation in the 1800s was like? At the Levi Jordan Plantation, an excavation revealed a cabin that indicates a resident that worked lead, manufactured lead shot, and possibly other metals. This cabin is now called the Smith s Cabin . At the Plantation, western artifacts used in African cultural context have been found during the excavation. Indications from these artifacts show that although these African and African Americans were no longer in their original cultural context, they still maintained some of their African cultural beliefs. National infant mortality rates vary from 18.8 deaths per 1000 live births in Cape Verde to 89.9 deaths per 1000 live births in Guinea Bissau. Nonetheless, the leading causes of infant mortality are largely the same across the region: neonatal conditions (26 percent), malaria (21 percent), pneumonia (21 percent), diarrhea (17 percent), measles (6 percent) and HIV/AIDS (4 percent). The desired children hypothesis of fertility asserts that high fertility primarily reflects desired number of children (Pritchett, 1994). In this regard, high infant mortality may motivate women to have more children to attain their preferred family size. Thus aside the important population health implications of reducing high infant mortality rates, demographic theory predicts that improved child survival is accompanied by declines in fertility reflecting reduced demand for replacement births to achieve a given target family size. The influence of reduced infant mortality on fertility decline has also been established empirically in a wide range of settings (Barnum, 1988). Declines in infant mortality, falls in fertility rates, and lower average family sizes lead to changes in population age structure and stimulate increased female labor ... An Example About Prostate Cancer If we take a look at an example about prostate cancer, with the data collected by Hastie, Tibshirani, Friedman in The Elements of Statistical Learning [2] and view the scatterplot in figure 1.1, we can see that the dependent variable, the log of the prostate specific antigen (lpsa) has a strong positive correlation particularly with lcavol (the log cancer volume) and lcp (the log of capsular penetration) with weaker but still strong correlations with the other dependent variables, log prostate weight (lweight), age, log of the amount of benign prostatic hyperplasia (lbph), and percent of Gleason scores 4 or 5 (pgg45), but not the svi (seminal vesicle invasion) and gleason (gleason score) as these are categorical variables [2]. Below figures 1.2 and 1.3 were fit with all variables and figures 1.4 and 1.5 were simplified by removing variables that had high p values until I felt that the model was better improved and they were fit thereafter. When we plot the fitted values against the residuals, if there is linearity, we should get an even spread around the line at 0. If we look at figures 1.2 and 1.4, for which the R coding can be found in the appendix below (section 7), we can see that they both seem to have linearity with figure 1.2 having possible outliers further away from the line and figure 1.4 having a more even spread. • 17. The Testament Of The Old Testament Essay 1. The Old Testament consisted of a set of the spiritual text of documentations, which were written by different people at various times to a different audience. Most of the Old Testament contains short stories of traditional stories and those stories of distinguish ways God established mankind. These stories are often told to the people in narrative form, which are guidelines often referred to as laws, songs, genealogies, and list from these authors that composed the Old Testaments. The pressing of set documentation is essential because it is the framework for the lives of Gods followers. The term Old Testament originated as a means to express spoken traditions and Gods creation from that particular era. We are different, but we get judged, every day, every hour, every minute people judge you, on your appearance, on your style, on your attributes. Yet they don t even know you. It is proven that in the first few moments of meeting someone, we form an opinion of them. Our society s biggest downfall is that we define people on stereotypical judgements. One of the clearest examples in today s society is Donald Trump. He claims to ban all Muslims to enter the USA. That is a stereotypical judgment that he has towards Muslims. He believes all Muslims are terrorist, as per CNN report Islam is the fastest growing religion in the US; and according to their report, in the USA some top Doctors and Engineers believe in Islam. So where does he get his claims from? Why does he create these stereotypical judgements against them? Why can t he work along with them so that we can live in a better world? We judge people by their race, we judge people by where they come from, we judge people by the way they speak. Today, we say all Muslims are terrorist, well if that was the case, wouldn t all Christians be in the KKK, if this was true we would probably be dead. There are about 2 billion Muslims in the world, that s about 29% of the world s population; if they all were terrorists the odds of our survival are slim. Since its start, 269 episodes have been created; each teetering on the edge of morality and ethics. It is true that Family Guy is a chat topping, clever, and properly thought out cartoon; however, it s easy to discern the creator s common use of inappropriate topics and remarks. Martyrs of the Alamo is a silent film that not only loosely depicts the historical event of the Battle at the Alamo but it perpetuates ethnic stereotypes of Mexicans to build a sense of nationalism in the early 1900 s. Researchers Ford and Harawa argue in their academic journal that ethnicity can be broken down into two dimensions, relational and attributional. The relational dimension pertains to the relationship dynamics between an ethnic group and the society they live in. We see a large contrast between the American characters and Mexican characters in the film. The American characters are chivalrous, courageous and dressed in a typical Western fashion; raccoon fur hats, formal wear or button down shirts while the Mexican characters are depicted as cowards and womanizing drunks in sombreros, ponchos or soldier uniforms with darkened skin. These negative depictions of Mexicans are used as a contrast from this perfect image of what it is to be American . For example, the General Santa Ana is portrayed to be a weak leader who is detached from the battle and who is preoccupied with exploiting women. In contrast to Davy Crockett who is able to band together with others to fight and protect Texas while on the battle front. Griffin uses these historic Alamo figures to emulate what it means to belong to America. The idea of Americans not backing down against a threat is portrayed through figures like Davy Crocket. Mild cognitive impairment ranges from minimal loss of cognitive problems to the point it changes normal life. Large changes in our demographics have occurred during the twentieth century. Life expectancy has increased by over thirty years. When you factor in the increase of fertility problems, the age groupings shift dramatically (Mohajeri, Troesch, Weber, 2014). Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a newly recognized medical condition that involves the stage between normal, age related cognitive decline and more serious decline associated with dementia. People with MCI can have problems with memory, language, thinking, and judgement that generally aren t severe enough to cause significant problems in their day to day lives and usual activities (Murray, 2014). Senior adults who have MCI are more likely to develop Alzheimer s disease, or another form of dementia, but it is not a certainty that everyone with MCI will get Alzheimer s. Job evaluation points were used to measure the values for each of the FastCat jobs. Each job was assigned these evaluation points based on the five compensable factors discussed in Phase I. The assigned points are used to create a fair compensation system and remain internally aligned. FastCat s goal is to match the market, or pay the average level for similar jobs within the market rate. In Phase II of FastCat s compensation system, a dual focus on the base pay and providing incentives for their employees was recommended. It is ideal for FastCat to match the market to maintain their competitiveness. This pay policy is most suitable because it will maximize FastCat s ability to attract and keep good employees, while still being within the company s ability to pay its expenses. Also, this pay structure will link pay to performance. This will assist FastCat with improving their employee engagement, motivation, rewarding performances, and increasing productivity. Balancing the profitability of the company with the pay structure of their employees will greatly regulate the future success of FastCat. Often inspired by the repression of unconscious observations, surrealist art and writing often contains no discernable organization or structure, and is open to the imagination and the world of the private mind (metmuseum), an antithesis of traditional art based on rationality, reason, and societal norms. These concepts were what the surrealists sought to upend in their manifesto, and thus much of their work, such as Rene Magritte s La Trahison des Images or Marcel Duchamp s Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, Even (The Large Glass) sought to overturn the world view of scientific positivism, exposing the dogmatic conceptions of vision and language, the supposed guarantors of truth and being, as arbitrary, deceptive tools of modernity s oppressive rational ideology (sensesofcinema).
