Skin infections are becoming an increasing concern in New Zealand children (Dogra Kumar, 2003)
(Thompson, 2010). According to recent literature, the incidence rates of infectious skin diseases in
New Zealand are some of the highest in the developed world (Williamson, 2014). These rates can be
attributed to trends that are noted in the literature: particularly those that are related to socioeconomic
status (SES) and ethnicity. This essay will discuss first the patterns and trends in infectious skin
diseases that have given rise to inequities amongst New Zealand children, then the adapted Williams
