Comparing The Great Hymn To The Aten
The Great Hymn to the Aten is about the god Aten in Egypt. The beginning of the
hymn is praising how great Aten is and how the Egyptian people wanted to serve
their god. Their god being King Akhenaten, who they praised for the ways he
changed Egyptian religion. Akhenaten was loved and worshiped by his people and
was said to be the sun. When he was not in the world or seen, like night time, the
world became unbearably miserable and awful, but returned to perfection when he
made his presence known to his people, like the sun rising. The Cannibal Spell of
King Unis is about King Unas who was said to be a king who would pursue gods
and deities and eat them. He is interpreted to be, with assistance, killing and eating
gods to gain their power so... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Akhenaten was well liked and portrayed as a god among men King Unas was
portrayed as only a king by family that greatly desired to be a god. Aten is a happier
and bright hymn, while Unis is a violent and dark hymn. The similarities are that
they both were kings, worshiped by their people, and seen, at one point or another, as
gods.
Because of my taste in music, I find that the Cannibal Spell of King Unis more
attractive. It leaves a thought of wanting more context and information on the time
period and who he was. Although I am not one for eating entrails of anyone or
anything, it gives more imagery, in my opinion. When I read about King Akhenaten
I find myself saying, yeah, cool, but where are your faults? His hymn is very happy
sounding to the fact that he did good by his people and they felt like the needed him,
but I wanted something more than that.
I have no religious beliefs. I want to worshiping, no praise to anything. If my
conscious is to go somewhere after death I want it to be the Akashic Records. I
have no god in my life and I feel I control myself and everything that happens to me.
These hymns did not connect to me on any real personal level that I can see fit to

Homemade Education By Malcolm X Analysis
Trying to communicate, but words aren t used, writing isn t used, it s simply
impossible. When communicating with others we use words, we speak, write, and
read. But if one can t perform those tasks, communication is simply out of reach.
The essay Homemade Education by Malcolm X, a minister and a civil right activist,
describes how his experience of learninghow to read and write in prison changes his
life as he became both an articulate speaker and writer. Similarly, Helen Keller, an
author and political activist shares her experience being both deaf and blind in an
excerpt called A Word for Everything. She explains how learning a new language
opened her to all the joys and horrors of the world. I, like many other authors, also
had an experience concerning language and how it changed my perspective of the
world. Speaking Chinese and Vietnamese as my first languages in the United States
made me run into societal barriers and restrictions. However, by learning English, I
could open myself to new possibilities and experiences. By learning and struggling
through the experience of language; new perspectives are opened up such as how
one views themselves, the world, and society. There is a motive each person has that
causes them to want to learn, experience, and struggle with language. Malcolm X
lacked writing skills and claimed that when he tried to write in simple English, [he]
not only wasn t articulate, [he] wasn t even functional (143). Malcolm X learned and
Analysis Of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
The film Close Encounters of the Third Kind drew upon the alien and UFO craze
that was going on in the 1970s. The film was written and directed by Steven
Spielberg and released in the year 1977. This film doesn t have any superstar actors
or actresses but interestingly enough, Meryl Streep auditioned but was not given a
role in the film. Many things about this film are quite interesting, including the movie
being filmed in an unused airplane hangar and the aliens being played by schoolgirls.
The behind the scenes elements would make you want to believe that this movie
would end up being a disappointment, but this assumption couldn t be more wrong.
The storyline of Close Encounters of the Third Kindfollows the events of a man that
has an encounter with extraterrestrials. The main character, Roy Neary (Richard
Dreyfuss), witnesses a UFO and is left with a burn on his skin and the image of a
Devil s Tower engraved in his memory. Roy builds a model of the mountain in his
home and becomes obsessed with UFOs and this eventually leads his wife to take
their children and leave. A French scientist, Claude Lacombe, and an American
interpreter, David Laughlin, are sent to India to investigate UFO activity where it is
said they were communicating with a five tone musical phrase. The scientists
broadcast this phrase into space and are given a response in the form of coordinates,
and these coordinates just so happen to be the location of Devil s Tower in Wyoming.

Lady Gaga s Song Applause
Dionne; article, Life as Performances: Dramatism and the Music of Lady Gaga
presents that Lady Gaga s song Applause is her pursuit to identify with her fans by
guilt redemption. The author presents guilt as ever present anxiety, brought about by
social standards that motivate communications to behave in certain ways (Dionne,
2015, p. 26). He introduces that Burke asserted that communications create drama by
disrupting, resistor altogether rejecting hierarchies (Dionne, 2015, p. 26). The reason
for presenting these two terms in the paper is because the song Applause
demonstrates the relationship between communications and hierarchies (Dionne,
2015, p. 26). The song illustrates that Gaga is on top of the hierarchy while her fans

Blood Vengeance In Beowulf
Vengeance in Beowulf
While both blood feuds and wergild deal with murder, a blood feud requires a
death for a death, while wergild uses gold to make amends. When looking at this in
a biblical perspective, it is important to understand how these relate to justice.
Biblical justice is a far cry from revenge. Vengeance, however, takes the shape of both
blood feuds and wergild, and while blood feuds are fueled by revenge, wergild is
important to bring justice in Beowulf s society. Vengeance in Beowulf takes two
main forms: the blood feuds, such as that of Grendel s mother, and the concept of
wergild; only wergild, however, conforms to the biblical definition of justice. Blood
feuds play an important role in Beowulf, if only to contrast with the idea of wergild.
A blood feud took place when someone killed someone else, and the victim s
family had the right and responsibility to kill the murderer. However, this is not
justice; it is revenge, often causing a deep and uncontrollable split in a society. In
Beowulf, this is only referred to once, when Grendel is killed, and Grendel s mother
comes, desperate for revenge, intent on avenging Grendel s death ( Beowulf, 69).
While Grendel s mother could be seen as restoring justice, this blood feud only
brought more death and revenge. There were few rules or regulations, and revenge
was often personal. Indeed, the old testament blood feuds were more closely aligned
with wergild, in that weregild was not wild justice or a step outside

Brief overview of the Medieval period
The term Medieval derives from the Latin words medium aevum meaning the Middle
Ages. The Middle Ages are so called as the middle period between the decline of the
Roman Empire and prior to the period called the Renaissance. The early Middle Ages
are often referred to as the Dark Ages. The period and era... Show more content on

Opposition to the Catholic church would result in excommunication. This meant that
the person who was excommunicated could not attend any church services, receive
the sacraments and would go straight to hell when they died.
Knights and the Code of Chivalry
It was the duty of a Middle Ages knight to learn how to fight and so serve their
liege lord according to the Code of Chivalry. The Code of Chivalry dictated that a
knight should be brave and fearless in battle but would also exhibit cultured
knightly qualities showing themselves to be devout, loyal, courteous and generous.
Weapon practise included enhancing skills in the two handed sword, battle axe,
mace, dagger and lance. A knight would be expected to guard the castle and
support his liege lord in Middle Ages warfare. To gain knighthood in the Middle
Ages was a long and arduous task. Knighthood was not bestowed purely because a
young man was the son of a noble. There were many steps to achieving a
knighthood, requiring years of training. The steps towards achieving a knighthood
started with training as a page and then as a squire, also referred to as esquire.

The knights job in the Middle Ages is centred around enhancing their knightly
skills in the use of weapons, horsemanship and medieval warfare. The sons of
nobles, except those who were destined to take Holy Orders, were placed in the
service of the great lords of the land. These sons of the
Comparing Hepzibah And Clifford In The House Of Seven
Gables
The comparison in the changes between Hepzibah and Clifford both effects their
lives great in The House Of Seven Gables. The reader may feel that Clifford s
changes effected him more and were brought upon him by society. Clifford was
forced to make changes and had to do it so his past would not repeat himself. He
had to find out a new way of life and how to adjust to the new society he lives in.
Clifford changed more than Hepzibah in this novelfor several reasons.
Clifford changed the most in this novel upon his release from prison for thirty
years. He was framed for murder which he did not commit, which put him in jail
for thirty years. After getting out of jail for that long is a huge shock cause a lot
could change and Clifford needs to figure out how to go back to his old life. He
needs to be able to adjust to the different atmosphere rather than the one he had in
prison. Clifford was influenced by other and had to make a change to get his life

care of him because of her age. This is where Pheobe fits perfectly into the novel as

The night I slept outside in September was definitely the worst and horrific and I
could never forget this one either.
This experience was slightly different because it was in London.
Yet again we had run out of money to pay for another night stay at a hotel. We had run
out of money the night before when we only had ВЈ60 left enough to pay for one night
sharing a single room. The hotels are usually not allowed to do this but the lady at
the reception desk allowed us to stay because we explained to her that we had no
money left.
We did not have any dinner that night and had no clue of what to do the next day.
The next morning we had to check out. And still we had no money, we had no idea
what to do. The suitcases were still with us and they were so difficult to travel
around London with. So I decided to put all our luggage inside the hotel s storage
room and leave it there until we knew what to do.
The hotels that we had been staying at in London were within close proximity of
Hyde Park, so we would spend hours everyday just sitting there.
Hour after hour we sat in the park that day as
Rosemary s Baby Fact

credibility, well written storyline, and great actors it has received a spot on the best

fears of being a new mother that later become suspicions and paranoia. Rosemary s

Rosemary s baby seems to identify with the three artistic intents. Polanski wanted
to capture reality, and that is what he did, he depicted them as a normal couple. He
also expressed his vision of the devil and how cults work, again, because of the
way he depicted it, it seemed credible. Lastly he wanted to affect our emotions. He
made us connect with Rosemary and took us through a whirlwind of feelings of
suspicion, paranoia, happiness, shock, and more. Coincidentally his own pregnant
wife suffered an attack by satanic cult members. The people around the Manson
Murders had some things in common with the movie which was released a year
before. Some would even say that Polanski predicted his wife s soon to be murder.

The Lie By Sir Walter Raleigh
The poem The Lie was written by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1592. Thought out the
poem, Sir Walter Raleigh is expressing his feelings about Parliament and Queen
Elisabeth, and how they always lie. During this time Sir Walter begin to personally
believe that the repeated, and distribution of the lie made the people like a bunch of
Pinocchio. However, after many years of Sir Walter Raleighhelping to spread the lie
he no longer wanted any part of it. He instead began to warn the readers using his
poetryabout the inner workings of the government through each stanza. In the first
stanza, the speaker uses his soul to express his desire for the reader to know the truth.
The next three stanzas are the speaker showing about what and how Parliament lies.
After that, the following eight stanzas are an exaggeration of the lie explaining that
things like love, time, and wisdom are no longer. That because of the lie, they get
turned into things like lust, motion, and Entanglements. In the final stanza, the
speaker appeals to the reader to not commit the lie, and instead let their soul guide
them because the speaker and Parliament did not. This poem s theme is warning
about how absolute power corrupts people, but faith and God cannot be corrupted.
Government and corruption are as old as dust. This poem shows no matter the type
of government, whether it is a monarchy, democracy, or aristocracy, there is always
corruption within its system and no matter how much somebody wants to do

CA3130A and CA3130 are op amp that combine the advantage of both CMOS and
bipolar transistors. Gate protected P channel MOSFET transistor are used in the input
circuit to provide very high input impedance, very low input current and exceptional
speed performance. The use of P,OS transistor in the input stage results in common

important attribute in single supply application.
The CA3130 series circuit operates at supply voltage ranging from 5V to 16V. They
can be phase compensated with a single external capacitor, and have terminals for

The Leading Causes Of Heart Failure
Heart failure is a condition that weakens the heart muscles and makes it very hard
for the body to circulate blood. It affects over five million Americans and is one of
the leading causes of death. Out of the five million, five hundred thousand die each
year. Only 5,000 out of the millions of cases actually receive a hearttransplant, which
is the best way to treat the disease. This means that most people with heart failure
never receive the treatment they truly need. Now, doctors in Texas have found a
treatment that doesn t rely on a transplant, which are few and far between. I chose
this article because when I grow up, I want to become a doctor. Most of the time, I
choose to learn about the brain and central nervous system. Recently though, I ve

Instead, it replaces any ruined parts of the heart with scar tissue, which isn t able to
help pump blood to other organs. If enough scar tissue builds up in the heart, it will
eventually stop working. This happens because of biological pathways, which are
occurrences in different molecules in a cell that cause a change. In this case, the cell
loses its ability to function properly and instead becomes useless scar tissue. The
biological pathway that causes this is called a Hippo pathway.
The biological pathway is not named after the animal hippo, but after a protein, Hpo.
This protein is what signals the cell to turn into scar tissue. Doctors at Baylor
University in Texas have figured out a way to silence the Hippo pathway. First, the
doctors tested this on mice with heart failure. After a month and a half of a silenced
pathway, the mices heart function had become healthy
Environmental Health Water Quality Monitoring Program
The city of Long Beach has approximately 7 miles of public beaches all through out
the city. Due to the mild climate thousands of residents and tourists visit the
beaches and bays. The beaches are one of the cities most popular attractions; so
this raises the concern of what the water quality is like at the beaches and bays.
Roughly every week the Health Department s Environmental Health Water Quality
Monitoring Program collects samples of water and analyzes them to determine the
quality of the water. Many different factors effect the water quality in Long Beach,
the geographical location of the city, the man made structures, the urban runoff,
and the Port of Long Beach. All of these things change and or make the water
quality worse in Long Beach but there are ways in which it can be improved.
When determining the quality of water in a specific area it is important to look
where that place is geographically located. Long beach is a city located in southern
California and is one of the biggest cities in the state. The oceanfront is special
because it is one of the only ones along the California coast that is South facing.
Most of the other beaches on the coast are West facing. Just north of the Long Beach
coastline is point Fermin, which blocks large northern swells primarily during the
winter. Point Fermin is one of the reasons that Long Beach is a south facing beach.
When large swells come from the north Long Beach does not receive them because of
the point blocks them.
Designing A New Low Complexity Approximation For

ABSTRACT
We focus on approximate algorithms for the computation of the 8 point DCT. While
not computing the DCT exactly, approximate methods can provide meaningful
estimations at low complexity requirements. Prominent techniques include the signed
discrete cosine transform (SDCT), the Bouguezel Ahmad Swamy (BAS) series of
algorithms, and the level 1 approximation by Lengwehasatit Orteg. All above
mentioned techniques possess extremely low arithmetic complexities. These
techniques have some defaults, So proposed technique is to overcome all the
defaults and performed well compare to above techniques. The aim of this

Images play the single most important role in human perception. Humans are limited
to the visual band of the electromagnetic spectrum, imaging machines cover almost
the entire electromagnetic spectrum, ranging from gamma to radio waves. They can
operate on images generated by sources that humans are not accustomed to
associating with images. These include ultrasound, electron microscopy, and
computer generated images. Thus, digital image processing encompasses a wide and
varied field of applications.
Digital image processing is the use of computer algorithms to perform image
processing on digital images. Digital image processing has the same advantages over
analog image processing as digital signal processing has over analog signal
processing it allows a much wider range of algorithms to be applied to the input
data, and can avoid problems such as the build up of noise and signal distortion
during processing. Image processing is a subclass of signal processing concerned

Guns are given to us by the Second Amendment created in 1719 by the founding

would change the United States forever.
The Founding Fathers and Puritans came to America for one reason, to protect their

The kid takes out one cookie ( the Second Amendment) out of the cookie jar and

families I know in upstate New York use their guns to still put food on the table and
to make an income. The people who use guns for a serious reason are not the

Analysis Of Daniel Kahneman s The Surety Of Fools
Voltaire once said, Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is an absurd one.
We live in a world that is constantly changing and does not grant the certainty that
people desire. But, people want the stability of knowing what is going to happen; this
is why certainty is absurd. In his essay The Surety of Fools, Daniel Kahneman
provides examples of people using a phenomenon he calls the illusion of validity.
These people strongly believe their actions cause a specific outcome, when in reality
there is statistical evidence that shows their actions have no direct correlation with
the outcome. While Kahneman argues the illusion of validity comes partially from
people s tendency to make quick decisions without fully conveying the causes, it
really stems from people s fear of uncertainty from having a lack of knowledge. Other
fields of academia, such as science and economics, have admitted that uncertainty
grounds their thinking processes. Kahneman is inaccurate in neglecting to mention
that it is the fear of uncertainty that really causes the illusion of validity. Kahneman
argues that the illusion of validity comes from fast thinking because it is prone to
doubt. Meaning, people naturally think quickly because they need a reason and so
they do not have time to question their explanation. However, Kahneman neglects to
mention that fast thinking roots itself in the fear of uncertainty. Kahneman begins his
essay by describing his experience in evaluating
Alternative Future Energy Storage And Conversion Systems
Metal air batteries have been intensively explored as an alternative future energy
storage and conversion systems owing to their intrinsically high energy and power
densities, the relatively mature research on air electrode, and cost effective
composition of non noble fuel electrode, as well as in response to the high energy
demand for portable devices and electric vehicles even stationary power plants [1
5]. Of late, research into the metal air techniques has been focused on Zn air
(~1,000 Wh kg 1), Li air (~13,000 Wh kg 1), and Ge air (~1,500 Wh kg 1) batteries
because of its very high specific energy and energy density with open cell air
cathode structure [3 6]. With these devices, however, the electrochemical energy
could be stored in the stationary part as form of sacrificial metal anode. This distinct
architecture would make a limitation approach for large scale commercialization
unless the anode can provide good electrochemical reversibility and high cyclic
durability.
As a feasible alternative to continuous operation, recently, a high temperature liquid
metal air energy storage cell (LMAESC) in conjunction with a solid oxide electrolyte
has been investigated applying post transition metals such as In [7], Sn [7 17], Sb
[18 25], Pb [7], and Bi [12] as a sacrificial electrode, so called liquid metal anode
(LMA). Since these liquid metals has relatively low melting point, it can improve the
anode polarization by incorporating liquid wetting materials to spread on the
The Aztec And Inca Empires
Inside any atrocious act committed by a group of people onto another for the sake
of greed there s a message they must spread to justify their actions, for the Spanish
onto the Aztec it was ridding the world of heretics worshiping Gods of blood. The
Aztec and Inca Empires fell with relative ease to the Spaniards due to a variety of
contributing factors. Hesitate action from leadership may have played a role at
least for the Aztecs as according to Hernan Cortez; Moctezuma believed that he
possibly was a God. Superior weaponry such as steel based weapons/armor played a
significant role, as both the Inca and Aztecempires still relied on weapons made
from stone and wood. European diseases like small pox also played a heavy hand
in the decimation of the native population, as the natives had no immunities to
such ailments. The Spanish who arrived with very few men to fight also utilized
subject people to fight on their side due primarily to the irritation of the Native
Empires long dominance of them. This was mainly utilized in the Aztec Empire s
conquest as they had long sacrificed large portions of their subjects to their Gods in
order to appease them. Along with sacrifices, the Aztec required large payments of
goods labor from their subjects further creating tensions. The conquistadors were
shocked when they saw the grizzly ritual sacrifices the Aztec would make in order
to appease their Gods. Some I imagine actually believed the big lie which would be

Little did I know at the age of fourteen as I laced up my basketball shoes the game I
was about to participate in would forever change my life. Nor did I realize that
game would be the last time I would ever step foot onto a basketball court. Even
simple tasks such as walking would soon almost be impossible to complete.
Following the game I soon proceeded to have a multitude of knee surgeries and
numerous years of physical therapy. Looking back, if I would have grasped what
was about to happen, I would have absorbed every second. Through this experience I
learned nothing is ever guaranteed and that I must utilize the opportunities that have
been laid in front of me. This is where I became familiar with the term Carpe diem.

Personal Narrative- My Trip to Colorado Springs Essay
My youth pastor pulled out of our church parking lot at three am in the morning
loaded down with a bus full of twenty four teenagers including me. We were off at
last head to Colorado Spring Colorado, little did I know, our bus was going to fall
apart this very day.
The anticipation of this day had been building up for some time over that last few
months, and now it was upon me at last. I didn t feel the same excitement I had
leading up to this moment, I even kind of grumbled to myself about how I wished
the bus was bigger so that I would be more comfortable. We all had our assigned
seats, but no one seemed to be where they were supposed to be. The anxiousness of
getting to Colorado was causing a great deal of confusion, chaos, and ... Show more

As you can understand we were in quite a bind, after the six adults talked amongst
them self s they informed us that they had decided to call for help from Colorado
Springs, after all, that s where we were headed any ways. The next call that was
made was to get the help of a church youth group we knew up there and see if we
could use their two fifteen passenger vans to get us all to our hotel we had
reservations for in Colorado Springs.
So the long waiting process began, and after sometime of being bored I
remembered I had a deck of card sitting in my backpack, so after getting them me
and a few of my friends began to play Texas Hold Em. After playing this for some
time me and a few others began to lose interest, so I suggested we play Life, they
agreed. This turned out to be tons of fun and we continued this for about two hours,
by this time everyone was pissed from waiting. I was getting fairly irritated myself,
but to my great dismay about forty five minutes later our two vans arrived. We were
all extremely excited, the long wait was over at last, and after our youth leaders talk
they decided that our youth pastor and one of our other leaders would remain behind
to wait for the tow truck, with this knowledge all of use teens and four of the six
adults loaded up and headed to Colorado Springs. We arrived at our hotel around
two hours later and to our great dismay it was the Home Wood Suit which is a

Black Athena
Similar to the section covering the Black Athena and the nuanced debated
surrounding it, there is another debate area that my research delves into that I will
give a brief overview of. The debate can be summarized in a single question; what
is art and what is artifact? Obviously when asked that question an answer
immediately springs to our minds, most likely an image of a famous artwork we
were shown in elementary school and perhaps an image of an archaeological dig
site but the question stands; what is art and what is artifact? For some the
difference is if the object had a utilitarian use or if it was merely decoration and, for
others there is no difference. But, for researchers dealing with objects thousands of

Setting Agenda
Most failed professional meetings are due to a lack of focus and unclear goals. It
is extremely important to come prepared with a specific agenda and a clear
understanding of what must be accomplished. While one can be flexible, the
agenda must list the topics that will be discussed as well as the goals; it is really
the road map to a successful meeting. The agenda should include; a review from
previous business meetings, a dialogue of new issues, and a clear evaluation of the
group s goals. One can use judgment to add or subtract items from the agenda as the
meeting develops, as long as the route still leads towards the final goals. Using
colleagues time efficiently is necessary to make ones meeting enjoyable and helps to
build group morale. It is recommended that supervisors of the meeting should not be
too optimistic about what should be accomplished in a single meeting.
During Meeting
Interactions
It is of paramount importance that the person running the meeting keeps it on topic,
while making sure that everyone s opinions are heard. At times, subjects can arouse
strong emotions, and it must be recognized as a time to better understand one s needs.
Members should discuss problems that are occurring. Other factors influencing group
interaction include seating, refreshments, temperature, lighting, and ventilation.
While one should never be late for a meeting, there is a correct way to enter prior to

Themes Of Sandra Cisneros
Readers of Sandra Cisneros are able to identify major themes throughout her work.
She makes these themes evident because growing up she experienced some of the
feelings and emotions that her characters do, which is why she is able to write
with such passion. Displacement and isolation are two themes that Cisneros
makes evident in her work. Readers will see these themes in Woman Hollering
Creek, Mericans, and Eleven. In Woman Hollering Creek isolation and
displacement play a big part in the main character, Cleofilas , life. She marries a
man whom she believes she is going to be with forever, however that is not the
case when her husband decides to do things to her no husband should ever do.
Cleofilas tries to pretend that everything that happens to her is normal by faking
everything she does and feels. At the ice house where many people come to have a
beer Cleofilas goes to accompany her husband because if she does not she will be
seen as a bad wife. [...] she is invited and accompanies her husband, sits mute beside
their conversation, waits and sips a beer until it grows warm, twists a napkin into a
knot, then another into a fan, one into a rose, nods her head, smiles, yawns, politely
grins, laughs at the appropriate moments [...] (Cisneros 223). She feels so out of
place that instead of trying to make conversation she would rather stay off to the side
and pretend like everything is fine. Cleofilas first longs to experience the American
Dream, if there is such a thing,
Analysis Of The Film Braveheart Directed By Mel Gibson
The film Braveheart directed by Mel Gibson, Alan Ladd Jr. and Bruce Davey is a
storyline involving a young man who is determined to secure and rescue his country
from invasion despite failures of other members of his family. The analysis is a
classic depiction of the integration of various themes involving revenge, perseverance,
and betrayal in the passing of the message of world civilization that involved securing
Scotland from the powerful English armies. The movie s use of relevant themes,
through a war setting enables the viewer develop an instinctive reasoning and
understanding of the significance of the historical concepts in the film that can be
used by students and scholars to broaden their thinking.
William Wallace, a young man who is openly seen as the main character, is also the
protagonist. On numerous occasions, he is involved in confrontations with the English
leader and army in his pursuit of the revenge mission. In his efforts to secure
Scotland, however, the young Wallace faces the daunting task of overcoming Edward
Longshanks, who is also the antagonist. The use of these two main characters in the
film is appropriate for the historical setting of the film. The main concept that is
being portrayed is the aspect of civilization and freedom from the hands of
oppressors. The director presents a young man who demonstrates determination and
the will to succeed despite the powerful opposing side. Likewise, Edward is a clear
depiction of the rulers that existed

New courts were established, new codes and new laws were introduced, chiefs were

James Baldwin s Remember This House By James Baldwin
James baldwin was an American novelist, essayist, playwright, poet, and social
critic. His essays were mostly of racial, sexual, and class distinctions in Western
societies, mostly in mid 20th century America. Some of Baldwin s essays are book
length, for instance The Fire Next Time (1963), No Name in the Street (1972), and
The Devil Finds Work (1976). An unfinished manuscript, Remember This House, was
expanded upon and adapted for cinema as the Academy Award nominated
documentary film I Am Not Your Negro. Writer and playwright James Baldwin
was
born August 2, 1924, in Harlem, New York. One of the 20th century s greatest
writers, Baldwin broke new literary ground with the exploration of racial and social
issues in his many works. He was especially well known for his essays on the black
experience in America.
Baldwin was born to a young single mother, Emma Jones, at Harlem Hospital. She
reportedly never told him the name of his biological father. Jones married a Baptist
minister named David Baldwin when James was about three years old. Despite
their strained relationship, he followed in his stepfather s footsteps who he always
referred to as his father during his early teen years. He served as a youth minister in
a Harlem Pentecostal church from the ages of 14 to 16.
Baldwin developed a passion for reading at an early age, and demonstrated a gift for
writing during his school years. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the
Bronx, where he worked on the school s magazine

to be the philosophy that the government has taken into account when establishing
the seat belt mandate laws. They, being those who make these types of laws, are in
fact looking out for what they believe is the greater good for the majority involved.
They are not taking into account our god given freedom to make these types of
choices for ourselves. On the other hand, those who oppose the passage of this law

evaluations should be made in terms of our desires and goals. Something that

Women In Sixteenth Century Verona
Smith argues that the gendered domestic spaces, both the idealistic and realistic, of
sixteenth century Verona shows the influence of women on the Renaissance material
culture. Smith chose to focus on Verona and the sixteenth century because although
they were behind in their palace building Verona has more documents pertaining to
movable wealth. Women in this time were becoming wealthier because of large
dowries and increasingly being named in wills of family members, contributing to the
movable wealth. The growing wealth of women led to numerous treatises being
written on domestic matters. These treatises contrasted two types of women, the
house wifewho was virtuous, modest, and quiet, versus the singing, dancing, and
conversing expected
African And African Slave Trade In The Atlantic World
African Slave Trade in the Atlantic World Natives and African both experienced
harsh punishments and work ethic in the 16th to 19th century due to the extensive
need for labor in both fields and mines. Thus resulting in a tragic outcome for the
slaves but, for European a good way to find the path to riches and growth in the
social structure. Before the Americas slaveryhad existed in Africafor a long time
dating back to the 1600 s. Muslim rulers had justified that any prisoner of could be
bought or sold as a slave if they were a non muslim believer. However, the rate of
slaves initially sold by Muslims was lower than the rate compared to the
Europeans, resulting in 17 million Africans were sold to Muslim lands in North
Africa and Southwest Asia between 650 and 1600. Slavery in the most African
and Muslim societies were rather different to slavery in the Americas. Slaves there
may have had some legal rights and opportunities to move up from their social
class. Although like the Americas few Africans were able to hold political
positions and if they were to some would have served as general in the army. AS
well as having an easier working condition there were also easier ways to get out of
slavery including marrying into the family they had served. After the Europeans had
discovered the Americas they thrived for the need of labor on their fields, which at
that time was very popular to grow sugar or tobacco. After being captured from
Africa men and women were sent on
Canada s Aging Population Essay
Canada, along with many other nations, is currently faced with an aging population.
In Canada seniors are the fastest growing age group and make more then half of the
population. And the numbers of older adults are higher in rural areas than in urban
areas (Menec et al., 2015). Rural communities exist throughout Canada where there
are large agingpopulations and higher number of children, but there are fewer
working individuals as compared to urban communities (Menec et al., 2015). Many
rural areas are aging more quickly than its urban counterparts as many choose to
move to a rural community for the slow pace of life, attractive scenery and smaller
community areas (Spina Menec, 2015, Menec et al., 2015). Rural seniors challenged

Thus, such communities will require the appropriate conditions to handle the
needs of the aging. In terms of physical environment, this includes such features as
safety, open spaces to promote walking, and age appropriate leisure activities
Seniors in rural communities identified the need of walkable sidewalks or
accessible buildings as it not only supported older people in the form of physical
exercise but also easier commute to attend social or personal needs (Public Health
Canada, 2009). In a Study by Bascu et al, in 2012 about 40 percent of seniors
experienced fall and related functional limitation. The study revealed that seniors
safety and security concerns tend to relate more to a poor physical environment
which adds to the number of accidents, including falls and complications. Seasonal
conditions such as icy, wet pathways that hinder mobility increase fall and isolation.
Creating a safe physical environment enables seniors to live independently and
recreate personal identity in the face of the challenges of aging (Keating, Swindle
Fletcher, 2011). It may, however, be challenging to create this environment. An
underlying issue is that funding is needed to ensure the availability of the resources

Decentralization, as a governance theme has been popular in both developed and
developing countries across the world in recent times (Khan, 2006). It is a favoured
system of governance since, according to Nupia, 2006 it leads to high levels of
accountability through transparency in decision making. Faguet and Sanchez (2006)
also argue that decentralized systems facilitate monitoring and access which
promotes accountability. World over, decentralizationis known to aid in the
allocation of the scarce resources and the fact that regional governments have easy
access to the citizens due to proximity (Oates, 1972). The advanced knowledge of ...

One of such funds is the constituency development fund, created in 2003 through
the CDF Act which has been revised twice since then, in 2007 and 2013.The fund
provides money to constituencies across the country and a CDF committee is
mandated to identify and fund critical projects within the constituency whose aim is
to improve the lives of the locals. Success of such decentralized frameworks highly
relies on the existing legal framework establishing the fund and clearly outlining the
functions and duties of each person in the successful execution of duties related the
fund (Bagaka, 2008).However, research has also shown that political leadership has
a tendency of skewed project identification, meant to benefit their people at the
expense of the rest (lijpart, 1999). Citizen participation is thus critical in order to
ensure that they do understand the aim of the fund, criteria of funds allocation and
their role in ensuring that such projects are completed to their benefit. In as much as
the current legal framework provides for specific criteria for establishing the CDF
fund, the terminating side is not adequately provided for. In some cases these funds
have not adequately served the purposes they were created for and hence minimal
impact on livelihoods. A fragmented and weak framework
Norman Rockwell s See America First
Norman Rockwell s painting, See America First, features a Native American man
wrapped in a red blanket standing by his mailbox. In his hand is a flyer that reads, See
AMERICA FIRST, a popular slogan in the early twentieth century intended to
encourage Americans to spend their money on tourist attractions within the United
Statesrather than traveling to Europe and investing in their culture. Discarded by
the man s feet is the envelope in which the flyer came, indicating that, excited to
have received mail, the man opened the envelope immediately. This excitement,
however, was short lived. The man s frown and raised, drawn together eyebrows
suggest he is disappointed with the contents of the envelope. His closed off body
language indicates a sort of fragility that elicits the audience s sympathy. Standing
next to his worn down mailbox, the man s weary eyes stare almost accusingly at
the audience. The Native American man s piercing gaze sends a clear message:
Native Americans are left behind by American nationalism. Rockwell s ironic tone
in See America First and use of color symbolism and perspective serve to express the
plight of Native Americans and their lack of identity as a result of modern American
nationalism.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quality of the Native American man s mailbox and shoes, however, suggests that
he does not have the money necessary to travel anyway. The irony of sending this
advertisement to someone who has no use for it illustrates the ignorance of the
American public to the impoverished state of many other citizens. Also ironic is the
fact that this man s ancestors actually did see America first in the literal sense. This
brings up the contrast between to original Americas, the one Native Americans called
home, and modern
My Becoming A Man By Simone De Beauvoir
Simone de Beauvoir asserts that one is not born, but, rather, becomes a woman
(Bailey, Alison, and Cuomo 97). In this analytical paper, I will attempt to relate to
this to my becoming a man, as well as comparing and contrasting this claim with
other feminist philosophers ideas. Also, I will try to explain how de Beauvoir s ideas
are beneficial to society and to individual people.
From birth to the first day in school, children seem to be concerned with food, love,
and rest. From first grade and on, however, I for one, found myself trying to define
who I am. What started as sharing food in first grade in order to make friend turned
into caring about the way I dressed in middle school. I was careful to follow society
s standards of what a boy should be like. This included walking a certain way, being
rude to the teacher, using crude language, pushing and shoving in lunch lines, and
picking on girls. Most of the time I didn t want to do those things, but it made me feel
masculine when I did them. Through repetition, I found myself identifying with those
habits.
Even to this day, I feel that I continue to follow a stylized repetition of acts in order
to construct an identity (Bailey, Alison, and Cuomo 97). I agree with de Beauvoir s
claim, to a point. De Beauvoir s phrasing of becoming a man implies that I was not
born a man. I, however, believe that although I was not born a man, I was born more
a man than a woman. In other words, I believe that I did not start with
Online Forums And Platforms Of Social Media
2.SOCIAL MEDIA ANALYTICS
The several online forums and platforms that allow a person to synthesize, update,
delete and exchange data is Social media [10]. Social media can be categorized [30,
31] as:
Social networks: The explosion of startups is causing new social networks to pop up.
Blogs: The best way to put an end to that silly belief is to read a large number of
blogs.
Microblogs: Studies by Treude et al., Storey, and Yuan et al. have shown that a wealth
of interesting information is stored in these microblogs.
Social news: Sift through journals so that others don t have to.
Social bookmarking: Popular way to return to your site regularly to see if there
something new and interesting.
Media sharing: Where content hunters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social media analytics has seen a widespread application in marketing of late. This
is due to the growing adoption of social media by people [32]. Forrester Research
[5], projects social media to be one of the fastest growing marketing channels in the
US between 2010 and 2015 [33]. User generated content and interactions between the
network entities are the two main sources of information in social media. Social
media analytics can be categorized into two groups based on this:
Content based analytics: This type of analytics deals with large amounts of
unstructured and noisy data (Text, audio, video and images) created and exchanged
by users on social media platforms, as discussed earlier, can be applied to derive
insight from such data. Data processing challenges can be solved by adopting big
data technologies.
Structure based analytics (Social network analytics): This type of analytics deals
with gaining intelligence from the participants relationships and creating structural
attributes of a social network. The structure of a social network is created with the
help of nodes and edges, as a network graph, where each participant is represented
by a node and each edge represents the relationship between two participants. We
discuss two kinds of graphs, social graphs and activity graphs [34].
In social graphs, an edge between a pair of nodes only indicates the existence of a
relationship between two corresponding participants. Social graphs can be analyzed to
Depression As A Chemical Imbalance
Right now, over fourteen and a half million Americans, nearly seven percent of the
population, suffer from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)(Source 1). The human
brain and its complexities currently make it impossible to quantify the exact way in
which depression arises and affects a person. However, one thing is certain, a lot of
people are sad, and it is getting worse. The rate of depression among high school to
college age students has increased significantly in the U.S. over the past fifty years.
Depression is often described as a chemical imbalance in the brain, which is entirely
correct; however, this is a gross oversimplification of the disease. Neurologists have
identified over one hundred different neurotransmitters, the chemicals... Show more

Additionally, temperament, the way in which an individual views the world and their
unacknowledged assumptions about how it works, also influence mood (Source 11).
Although depression is classified as a mental illness, clinical depression can produce
a host of physical and mental symptoms. Mentally, depression makes a person feel
miserable, hopeless, and as though the smallest tasks are impossible. Previously
enjoyed activities often become uninteresting and anger and stress levels can
skyrocket. Physically, chronic exhaustion sets in and aches and pains can arise which
have no apparent cause (Source 1).
The MMPI test is heavily used in psychiatric and depression research. The MMPI,
Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, is the most widely used psychometric
test for measuring adult psychopathology in the world , and its derivatives, the
updated MMPI 2 and the MMPI A that is used in adolescents, are both widely used
and accepted in the academic and psychiatric communities (Source 4).
An alarming trend has arisen in the past fifty years in America, depression rates have
increased significantly for high school to college students. There is dispute over the
exact magnitude of the increase, with some studies reporting a fifteen to twenty
percent increase in
Claude Vignon s David With The Head Of Goliath
The art piece created by Claude Vignon , David with the Head of Goliath has three
important elements that are vital towards the piece in order to portray a message of
power and authority. Which are the focal point, proportions, and the contrast of this
particular piece. The artwork is oil on canvas that was made around in 1593 1670.
The subject matter of the artwork is depicting the moment of pride Davidhad with the
head of the giant Goliathbeing laid next to his small body. The portrait of David is
seen on the viewers middle left side, while the head of Goliath is in the middle
right side next to David s. David is seen wearing clothes that appear to be a size to
big on him, to the point where the shirt is slipping from his shoulder (exposing his
left shoulder). The clothes themselves are interpreted as royal clothing, having a big
headpiece located in the top half of the painting. With the exposed shoulder being
leaned forward on, in his left hand David holds a silver sword that is seen to to take...

In the painting it is evident that Goliath s head is в…” of David s body alone.
Leaving it up to the viewers imagination to show how big he was compared to this
small boy David. The shaping of the bodies were made to be slightly different. The
shape size of David s body was smaller to that of Goliath. As well as the form.
While David has a body considered small and scrawny, Goliath s head alone the
viewer was able to see his form had muscle and he was a bulky man. This element
has shaped the artists message in allowing for the difference between David who is
portrayed as small and weak, and Goliath who is depicted as a giant who was most
likely powerful physically. Thus, allowing the reader to further the admiration of
what David had done, which was best this giant although him being a scrawny young
Richard Rodriguez Complexion
Authors utilize rhetorical devices in order to convey the true meaning of his work.
In his essay, Complexion, Richard RodrГguez uses the rhetorical modes of
description and symbolism. The description gives the work a story like flow, while
the symbolism makes the reader more able to experience the emotions and feelings
present within the authors complexion. The utilization of the stylistic tools aids in
conveying the true message of the author s claim which is that he received mass
racism out in the society. Since the essay is an account of his own experiences with
racism, the description works well to take the reader to different periods of time and
events in Rodriguez s life.
The use of description allows the essay to be ... Show more content on

His mothers friends would also often talk about what a burden or curse it was, to
have dark skin, ...it was a woman s spoken concern: the fear of having a dark
skinned son or daughter. (Rodriguez 449). This displays that in his culture, people
preferred light skin children over dark skin, knowing that a light skinned child would
not face as much prejudice a dark skinned child would growing up. The use of

The Garden Of Earthly Delights
Hieronymous Bosch s 16th century triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights, is a
heavily discussed image among scholars. Because of the obscure nature of the
painting and its subjects, especially so in the context of the painting s time period,
interpretations and analyses of the image are widespread. Common interpretations
of the piece include that the image is a symbolic warning against shame and sin, a
warning against woman s temptations, the rebirth of a joyous world, and the
Garden as a Paradise Lost . In the 15th and 16th centuries, there were various
controversies surrounding the papacy of the Catholic Church, as well as other
matters of Catholic corruption, which would eventually lead to the reformation.
Expectedly, an unsophisticated symbolic analysis of the painting may lead one to
interpret the image as a representation of the Final Judgment , which is plausible
given this context of Bosch s time period. Because of religious conflict and turmoil,
people were likely confused and fearful of literal apocalyptic consequences. A more
sophisticated allegorical analysis of the piece is instead revealing of Bosch s
conceptual interpretation of the world and reality itself. The title suggests the piece
contains earthly delights , yet the absence of any man like items suggests that Bosch
s painting was instead metaphorically symbolic in its iconographic depictions. The
center panel should thus be interpreted allegorically in order to decode Bosch s
conceptual

  • 2. Comparing The Great Hymn To The Aten The Great Hymn to the Aten is about the god Aten in Egypt. The beginning of the hymn is praising how great Aten is and how the Egyptian people wanted to serve their god. Their god being King Akhenaten, who they praised for the ways he changed Egyptian religion. Akhenaten was loved and worshiped by his people and was said to be the sun. When he was not in the world or seen, like night time, the world became unbearably miserable and awful, but returned to perfection when he made his presence known to his people, like the sun rising. The Cannibal Spell of King Unis is about King Unas who was said to be a king who would pursue gods and deities and eat them. He is interpreted to be, with assistance, killing and eating gods to gain their power so... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... King Akhenaten was well liked and portrayed as a god among men King Unas was portrayed as only a king by family that greatly desired to be a god. Aten is a happier and bright hymn, while Unis is a violent and dark hymn. The similarities are that they both were kings, worshiped by their people, and seen, at one point or another, as gods. Because of my taste in music, I find that the Cannibal Spell of King Unis more attractive. It leaves a thought of wanting more context and information on the time period and who he was. Although I am not one for eating entrails of anyone or anything, it gives more imagery, in my opinion. When I read about King Akhenaten I find myself saying, yeah, cool, but where are your faults? His hymn is very happy sounding to the fact that he did good by his people and they felt like the needed him, but I wanted something more than that. I have no religious beliefs. I want to worshiping, no praise to anything. If my conscious is to go somewhere after death I want it to be the Akashic Records. I have no god in my life and I feel I control myself and everything that happens to me. These hymns did not connect to me on any real personal level that I can see fit to really write or
  • 3. Homemade Education By Malcolm X Analysis Trying to communicate, but words aren t used, writing isn t used, it s simply impossible. When communicating with others we use words, we speak, write, and read. But if one can t perform those tasks, communication is simply out of reach. The essay Homemade Education by Malcolm X, a minister and a civil right activist, describes how his experience of learninghow to read and write in prison changes his life as he became both an articulate speaker and writer. Similarly, Helen Keller, an author and political activist shares her experience being both deaf and blind in an excerpt called A Word for Everything. She explains how learning a new language opened her to all the joys and horrors of the world. I, like many other authors, also had an experience concerning language and how it changed my perspective of the world. Speaking Chinese and Vietnamese as my first languages in the United States made me run into societal barriers and restrictions. However, by learning English, I could open myself to new possibilities and experiences. By learning and struggling through the experience of language; new perspectives are opened up such as how one views themselves, the world, and society. There is a motive each person has that causes them to want to learn, experience, and struggle with language. Malcolm X lacked writing skills and claimed that when he tried to write in simple English, [he] not only wasn t articulate, [he] wasn t even functional (143). Malcolm X learned and
  • 4. Analysis Of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind The film Close Encounters of the Third Kind drew upon the alien and UFO craze that was going on in the 1970s. The film was written and directed by Steven Spielberg and released in the year 1977. This film doesn t have any superstar actors or actresses but interestingly enough, Meryl Streep auditioned but was not given a role in the film. Many things about this film are quite interesting, including the movie being filmed in an unused airplane hangar and the aliens being played by schoolgirls. The behind the scenes elements would make you want to believe that this movie would end up being a disappointment, but this assumption couldn t be more wrong. The storyline of Close Encounters of the Third Kindfollows the events of a man that has an encounter with extraterrestrials. The main character, Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss), witnesses a UFO and is left with a burn on his skin and the image of a Devil s Tower engraved in his memory. Roy builds a model of the mountain in his home and becomes obsessed with UFOs and this eventually leads his wife to take their children and leave. A French scientist, Claude Lacombe, and an American interpreter, David Laughlin, are sent to India to investigate UFO activity where it is said they were communicating with a five tone musical phrase. The scientists broadcast this phrase into space and are given a response in the form of coordinates, and these coordinates just so happen to be the location of Devil s Tower in Wyoming. The military clears

Lady Gaga s Song Applause Dionne; article, Life as Performances: Dramatism and the Music of Lady Gaga presents that Lady Gaga s song Applause is her pursuit to identify with her fans by guilt redemption. The author presents guilt as ever present anxiety, brought about by social standards that motivate communications to behave in certain ways (Dionne, 2015, p. 26). He introduces that Burke asserted that communications create drama by disrupting, resistor altogether rejecting hierarchies (Dionne, 2015, p. 26). The reason for presenting these two terms in the paper is because the song Applause demonstrates the relationship between communications and hierarchies (Dionne, 2015, p. 26). The song illustrates that Gaga is on top of the hierarchy while her fans are below
  • 6. Blood Vengeance In Beowulf Vengeance in Beowulf While both blood feuds and wergild deal with murder, a blood feud requires a death for a death, while wergild uses gold to make amends. When looking at this in a biblical perspective, it is important to understand how these relate to justice. Biblical justice is a far cry from revenge. Vengeance, however, takes the shape of both blood feuds and wergild, and while blood feuds are fueled by revenge, wergild is important to bring justice in Beowulf s society. Vengeance in Beowulf takes two main forms: the blood feuds, such as that of Grendel s mother, and the concept of wergild; only wergild, however, conforms to the biblical definition of justice. Blood feuds play an important role in Beowulf, if only to contrast with the idea of wergild. A blood feud took place when someone killed someone else, and the victim s family had the right and responsibility to kill the murderer. However, this is not justice; it is revenge, often causing a deep and uncontrollable split in a society. In Beowulf, this is only referred to once, when Grendel is killed, and Grendel s mother comes, desperate for revenge, intent on avenging Grendel s death ( Beowulf, 69). While Grendel s mother could be seen as restoring justice, this blood feud only brought more death and revenge. There were few rules or regulations, and revenge was often personal. Indeed, the old testament blood feuds were more closely aligned with wergild, in that weregild was not wild justice or a step outside

The Code of Chivalry dictated that a knight should be brave and fearless in battle but would also exhibit cultured knightly qualities showing themselves to be devout, loyal, courteous and generous. Weapon practise included enhancing skills in the two handed sword, battle axe, mace, dagger and lance. A knight would be expected to guard the castle and support his liege lord in Middle Ages warfare. To gain knighthood in the Middle Ages was a long and arduous task. Knighthood was not bestowed purely because a young man was the son of a noble. There were many steps to achieving a knighthood, requiring years of training. The steps towards achieving a knighthood started with training as a page and then as a squire, also referred to as esquire. [pic] [pic]

Adventures Of A Once Homeless Girl Adventures of a Once Homeless Girl UXDE dot Net Wordpress Themes by SamPac07/07/07 ( I have noticed this very odd coincidence that every night we slept on the street was the anniversary of terrorist bombings and catastrophes, as I look back on it, I am not really sure what to think, was it just a coincidence? or is there more than meets the eye...I hope to find the answer) The night I slept outside in September was definitely the worst and horrific and I could never forget this one either. This experience was slightly different because it was in London. Yet again we had run out of money to pay for another night stay at a hotel. We had run out of money the night before when we only had ВЈ60 left enough to pay for one night sharing a single room. The hotels are usually not allowed to do this but the lady at the reception desk allowed us to stay because we explained to her that we had no money left. We did not have any dinner that night and had no clue of what to do the next day. The next morning we had to check out. And still we had no money, we had no idea what to do. The suitcases were still with us and they were so difficult to travel around London with. So I decided to put all our luggage inside the hotel s storage room and leave it there until we knew what to do. The hotels that we had been staying at in London were within close proximity of Hyde Park, so we would spend hours everyday just sitting there. Hour after hour we sat in the park that day as

  • 13. The Lie By Sir Walter Raleigh The poem The Lie was written by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1592. Thought out the poem, Sir Walter Raleigh is expressing his feelings about Parliament and Queen Elisabeth, and how they always lie. During this time Sir Walter begin to personally believe that the repeated, and distribution of the lie made the people like a bunch of Pinocchio. However, after many years of Sir Walter Raleighhelping to spread the lie he no longer wanted any part of it. He instead began to warn the readers using his poetryabout the inner workings of the government through each stanza. In the first stanza, the speaker uses his soul to express his desire for the reader to know the truth. The next three stanzas are the speaker showing about what and how Parliament lies. After that, the following eight stanzas are an exaggeration of the lie explaining that things like love, time, and wisdom are no longer. That because of the lie, they get turned into things like lust, motion, and Entanglements. In the final stanza, the speaker appeals to the reader to not commit the lie, and instead let their soul guide them because the speaker and Parliament did not. This poem s theme is warning about how absolute power corrupts people, but faith and God cannot be corrupted. Government and corruption are as old as dust. This poem shows no matter the type of government, whether it is a monarchy, democracy, or aristocracy, there is always corruption within its system and no matter how much somebody wants to do

Only 5,000 out of the millions of cases actually receive a hearttransplant, which is the best way to treat the disease. This means that most people with heart failure never receive the treatment they truly need. Instead, it replaces any ruined parts of the heart with scar tissue, which isn t able to help pump blood to other organs. If enough scar tissue builds up in the heart, it will eventually stop working. This happens because of biological pathways, which are occurrences in different molecules in a cell that cause a change. In this case, the cell loses its ability to function properly and instead becomes useless scar tissue. The biological pathway that causes this is called a Hippo pathway. The biological pathway is not named after the animal hippo, but after a protein, Hpo. This protein is what signals the cell to turn into scar tissue. Doctors at Baylor University in Texas have figured out a way to silence the Hippo pathway. First, the doctors tested this on mice with heart failure. After a month and a half of a silenced pathway, the mices heart function had become healthy

Due to the mild climate thousands of residents and tourists visit the beaches and bays. The beaches are one of the cities most popular attractions; so this raises the concern of what the water quality is like at the beaches and bays. Roughly every week the Health Department s Environmental Health Water Quality Monitoring Program collects samples of water and analyzes them to determine the quality of the water. Many different factors effect the water quality in Long Beach, the geographical location of the city, the man made structures, the urban runoff, and the Port of Long Beach. All of these things change and or make the water quality worse in Long Beach but there are ways in which it can be improved. When determining the quality of water in a specific area it is important to look where that place is geographically located. Long beach is a city located in southern California and is one of the biggest cities in the state. The oceanfront is special because it is one of the only ones along the California coast that is South facing. Most of the other beaches on the coast are West facing. Just north of the Long Beach coastline is point Fermin, which blocks large northern swells primarily during the winter. Point Fermin is one of the reasons that Long Beach is a south facing beach. When large swells come from the north Long Beach does not receive them because of the point blocks them.

The founding fathers had their reasons to create such a powerful right that would change the United States forever. The Founding Fathers and Puritans came to America for one reason, to protect their only rights as humans. We live in a world that is constantly changing and does not grant the certainty that people desire. But, people want the stability of knowing what is going to happen; this is why certainty is absurd. In his essay The Surety of Fools, Daniel Kahneman provides examples of people using a phenomenon he calls the illusion of validity. These people strongly believe their actions cause a specific outcome, when in reality there is statistical evidence that shows their actions have no direct correlation with the outcome. While Kahneman argues the illusion of validity comes partially from people s tendency to make quick decisions without fully conveying the causes, it really stems from people s fear of uncertainty from having a lack of knowledge. Other fields of academia, such as science and economics, have admitted that uncertainty grounds their thinking processes. Kahneman is inaccurate in neglecting to mention that it is the fear of uncertainty that really causes the illusion of validity. Kahneman argues that the illusion of validity comes from fast thinking because it is prone to doubt. Meaning, people naturally think quickly because they need a reason and so they do not have time to question their explanation. However, Kahneman neglects to mention that fast thinking roots itself in the fear of uncertainty. Kahneman begins his essay by describing his experience in evaluating

Alternative Future Energy Storage And Conversion Systems Metal air batteries have been intensively explored as an alternative future energy storage and conversion systems owing to their intrinsically high energy and power densities, the relatively mature research on air electrode, and cost effective composition of non noble fuel electrode, as well as in response to the high energy demand for portable devices and electric vehicles even stationary power plants [1 5]. Of late, research into the metal air techniques has been focused on Zn air (~1,000 Wh kg 1), Li air (~13,000 Wh kg 1), and Ge air (~1,500 Wh kg 1) batteries because of its very high specific energy and energy density with open cell air cathode structure [3 6]. With these devices, however, the electrochemical energy could be stored in the stationary part as form of sacrificial metal anode. This distinct architecture would make a limitation approach for large scale commercialization unless the anode can provide good electrochemical reversibility and high cyclic durability. As a feasible alternative to continuous operation, recently, a high temperature liquid metal air energy storage cell (LMAESC) in conjunction with a solid oxide electrolyte has been investigated applying post transition metals such as In [7], Sn [7 17], Sb [18 25], Pb [7], and Bi [12] as a sacrificial electrode, so called liquid metal anode (LMA). Since these liquid metals has relatively low melting point, it can improve the anode polarization by incorporating liquid wetting materials to spread on the

The Aztec And Inca Empires Inside any atrocious act committed by a group of people onto another for the sake of greed there s a message they must spread to justify their actions, for the Spanish onto the Aztec it was ridding the world of heretics worshiping Gods of blood. The Aztec and Inca Empires fell with relative ease to the Spaniards due to a variety of contributing factors. Hesitate action from leadership may have played a role at least for the Aztecs as according to Hernan Cortez; Moctezuma believed that he possibly was a God. Superior weaponry such as steel based weapons/armor played a significant role, as both the Inca and Aztecempires still relied on weapons made from stone and wood. European diseases like small pox also played a heavy hand in the decimation of the native population, as the natives had no immunities to such ailments. The Spanish who arrived with very few men to fight also utilized subject people to fight on their side due primarily to the irritation of the Native Empires long dominance of them. This was mainly utilized in the Aztec Empire s conquest as they had long sacrificed large portions of their subjects to their Gods in order to appease them. Along with sacrifices, the Aztec required large payments of goods labor from their subjects further creating tensions. The conquistadors were shocked when they saw the grizzly ritual sacrifices the Aztec would make in order to appease their Gods. • 40. James Baldwin s Remember This House By James Baldwin James baldwin was an American novelist, essayist, playwright, poet, and social critic. His essays were mostly of racial, sexual, and class distinctions in Western societies, mostly in mid 20th century America. Some of Baldwin s essays are book length, for instance The Fire Next Time (1963), No Name in the Street (1972), and The Devil Finds Work (1976). An unfinished manuscript, Remember This House, was expanded upon and adapted for cinema as the Academy Award nominated documentary film I Am Not Your Negro. Writer and playwright James Baldwin was born August 2, 1924, in Harlem, New York. One of the 20th century s greatest writers, Baldwin broke new literary ground with the exploration of racial and social issues in his many works. He was especially well known for his essays on the black experience in America. Baldwin was born to a young single mother, Emma Jones, at Harlem Hospital. She reportedly never told him the name of his biological father. Jones married a Baptist minister named David Baldwin when James was about three years old. Despite their strained relationship, he followed in his stepfather s footsteps who he always referred to as his father during his early teen years. He served as a youth minister in a Harlem Pentecostal church from the ages of 14 to 16. Baldwin developed a passion for reading at an early age, and demonstrated a gift for writing during his school years. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, where he worked on the school s magazine

Mandating Seat Belt Usage vs. Freedom of Choice Essay example Mandating Seat Belt Usage vs. Freedom of Choice SOC120: Introduction to Ethics and Social Responsibilities 1 How do you feel when you are told what you will or will not do? You may be told that it is for your own good, but who has the right to decide what is or is not good for you? After all who knows you better than you do? This brings me to the topic of my discussion. Even though there are some statistics that may show a lower rate of injury or death if you wear a seat belt when in an automobile accident, I do not feel that the government has the right to make wearing a seat belt mandatory for adults because by making seat belts mandatory it takes away from our right to freedom of choice, and wearing a seat... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That no one has the right to decide what is right for them, and that no one should be able to mandate what they have to or do not have to do. This topic is no different to them than say, flying in an airplane. No one tells them that they have to fly in an airplane, which requires putting their life at risk, yet they themselves make the decision to do so or not. According to our text, Utilitarianism evaluates whether an act is right or wrong in terms of the act s consequences, and argues that, given a set of choices, the act we should choose is that which produces the best results for the greatest number affected by that choice. To break it down even further, the rule utilitarian contends that one should do things that, as a rule, generate the greatest good for the greatest number (Mosser, K, 2010). I believe this to be the philosophy that the government has taken into account when establishing the seat belt mandate laws. They, being those who make these types of laws, are in fact looking out for what they believe is the greater good for the majority involved. They are not taking into account our god given freedom to make these types of choices for ourselves. On the other hand, those who oppose the passage of this law error on the ethical egoism philosophy. This philosophy argues that our moral evaluations should be made in terms of our desires and goals. Something that promotes what I want is regarded as right; something that

Women In Sixteenth Century Verona Smith argues that the gendered domestic spaces, both the idealistic and realistic, of sixteenth century Verona shows the influence of women on the Renaissance material culture. Smith chose to focus on Verona and the sixteenth century because although they were behind in their palace building Verona has more documents pertaining to movable wealth. Women in this time were becoming wealthier because of large dowries and increasingly being named in wills of family members, contributing to the movable wealth. The growing wealth of women led to numerous treatises being written on domestic matters. These treatises contrasted two types of women, the house wifewho was virtuous, modest, and quiet, versus the singing, dancing, and conversing expected

African And African Slave Trade In The Atlantic World African Slave Trade in the Atlantic World Natives and African both experienced harsh punishments and work ethic in the 16th to 19th century due to the extensive need for labor in both fields and mines. Thus resulting in a tragic outcome for the slaves but, for European a good way to find the path to riches and growth in the social structure. Before the Americas slaveryhad existed in Africafor a long time dating back to the 1600 s. Muslim rulers had justified that any prisoner of could be bought or sold as a slave if they were a non muslim believer. However, the rate of slaves initially sold by Muslims was lower than the rate compared to the Europeans, resulting in 17 million Africans were sold to Muslim lands in North Africa and Southwest Asia between 650 and 1600. Slavery in the most African and Muslim societies were rather different to slavery in the Americas. Slaves there may have had some legal rights and opportunities to move up from their social class. Although like the Americas few Africans were able to hold political positions and if they were to some would have served as general in the army. AS well as having an easier working condition there were also easier ways to get out of slavery including marrying into the family they had served. After the Europeans had discovered the Americas they thrived for the need of labor on their fields, which at that time was very popular to grow sugar or tobacco. After being captured from Africa men and women were sent on
  • 45. Canada s Aging Population Essay Canada, along with many other nations, is currently faced with an aging population. In Canada seniors are the fastest growing age group and make more then half of the population. And the numbers of older adults are higher in rural areas than in urban areas (Menec et al., 2015). Rural communities exist throughout Canada where there are large agingpopulations and higher number of children, but there are fewer working individuals as compared to urban communities (Menec et al., 2015). Many rural areas are aging more quickly than its urban counterparts as many choose to move to a rural community for the slow pace of life, attractive scenery and smaller community areas (Spina Menec, 2015, Menec et al., 2015). Rural seniors challenged with issue... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, such communities will require the appropriate conditions to handle the needs of the aging. In terms of physical environment, this includes such features as safety, open spaces to promote walking, and age appropriate leisure activities Seniors in rural communities identified the need of walkable sidewalks or accessible buildings as it not only supported older people in the form of physical exercise but also easier commute to attend social or personal needs (Public Health Canada, 2009). In a Study by Bascu et al, in 2012 about 40 percent of seniors experienced fall and related functional limitation. The study revealed that seniors safety and security concerns tend to relate more to a poor physical environment which adds to the number of accidents, including falls and complications. Seasonal conditions such as icy, wet pathways that hinder mobility increase fall and isolation. Creating a safe physical environment enables seniors to live independently and recreate personal identity in the face of the challenges of aging (Keating, Swindle Fletcher, 2011). It may, however, be challenging to create this environment. An underlying issue is that funding is needed to ensure the availability of the resources

Faguet and Sanchez (2006) also argue that decentralized systems facilitate monitoring and access which promotes accountability. Success of such decentralized frameworks highly relies on the existing legal framework establishing the fund and clearly outlining the functions and duties of each person in the successful execution of duties related the fund (Bagaka, 2008).However, research has also shown that political leadership has a tendency of skewed project identification, meant to benefit their people at the expense of the rest (lijpart, 1999). Citizen participation is thus critical in order to ensure that they do understand the aim of the fund, criteria of funds allocation and their role in ensuring that such projects are completed to their benefit. • 47. Norman Rockwell s See America First Norman Rockwell s painting, See America First, features a Native American man wrapped in a red blanket standing by his mailbox. In his hand is a flyer that reads, See AMERICA FIRST, a popular slogan in the early twentieth century intended to encourage Americans to spend their money on tourist attractions within the United Statesrather than traveling to Europe and investing in their culture. Discarded by the man s feet is the envelope in which the flyer came, indicating that, excited to have received mail, the man opened the envelope immediately. This excitement, however, was short lived. The man s frown and raised, drawn together eyebrows suggest he is disappointed with the contents of the envelope. His closed off body language indicates a sort of fragility that elicits the audience s sympathy. Standing next to his worn down mailbox, the man s weary eyes stare almost accusingly at the audience. The Native American man s piercing gaze sends a clear message: Native Americans are left behind by American nationalism. Rockwell s ironic tone in See America First and use of color symbolism and perspective serve to express the plight of Native Americans and their lack of identity as a result of modern American nationalism.... The irony of sending this advertisement to someone who has no use for it illustrates the ignorance of the American public to the impoverished state of many other citizens. Also ironic is the fact that this man s ancestors actually did see America first in the literal sense. This brings up the contrast between to original Americas, the one Native Americans called home, and modern
  • 48. My Becoming A Man By Simone De Beauvoir Simone de Beauvoir asserts that one is not born, but, rather, becomes a woman (Bailey, Alison, and Cuomo 97). In this analytical paper, I will attempt to relate to this to my becoming a man, as well as comparing and contrasting this claim with other feminist philosophers ideas. Also, I will try to explain how de Beauvoir s ideas are beneficial to society and to individual people. From birth to the first day in school, children seem to be concerned with food, love, and rest. From first grade and on, however, I for one, found myself trying to define who I am. What started as sharing food in first grade in order to make friend turned into caring about the way I dressed in middle school. I was careful to follow society s standards of what a boy should be like. This included walking a certain way, being rude to the teacher, using crude language, pushing and shoving in lunch lines, and picking on girls. Most of the time I didn t want to do those things, but it made me feel masculine when I did them. Through repetition, I found myself identifying with those habits. Even to this day, I feel that I continue to follow a stylized repetition of acts in order to construct an identity (Bailey, Alison, and Cuomo 97). I agree with de Beauvoir s claim, to a point. De Beauvoir s phrasing of becoming a man implies that I was not born a man. I, however, believe that although I was not born a man, I was born more a man than a woman. In other words, I believe that I did not start with

The structure of a social network is created with the help of nodes and edges, as a network graph, where each participant is represented by a node and each edge represents the relationship between two participants. We discuss two kinds of graphs, social graphs and activity graphs [34]. In social graphs, an edge between a pair of nodes only indicates the existence of a relationship between two corresponding participants. Social graphs can be analyzed to
  • 50. Depression As A Chemical Imbalance Right now, over fourteen and a half million Americans, nearly seven percent of the population, suffer from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)(Source 1). The human brain and its complexities currently make it impossible to quantify the exact way in which depression arises and affects a person. The rate of depression among high school to college age students has increased significantly in the U.S. over the past fifty years. Previously enjoyed activities often become uninteresting and anger and stress levels can skyrocket. Physically, chronic exhaustion sets in and aches and pains can arise which have no apparent cause (Source 1). The MMPI test is heavily used in psychiatric and depression research. • 53. The Garden Of Earthly Delights Hieronymous Bosch s 16th century triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights, is a heavily discussed image among scholars. Because of the obscure nature of the painting and its subjects, especially so in the context of the painting s time period, interpretations and analyses of the image are widespread. Common interpretations of the piece include that the image is a symbolic warning against shame and sin, a warning against woman s temptations, the rebirth of a joyous world, and the Garden as a Paradise Lost . In the 15th and 16th centuries, there were various controversies surrounding the papacy of the Catholic Church, as well as other matters of Catholic corruption, which would eventually lead to the reformation. Expectedly, an unsophisticated symbolic analysis of the painting may lead one to interpret the image as a representation of the Final Judgment , which is plausible given this context of Bosch s time period. Because of religious conflict and turmoil, people were likely confused and fearful of literal apocalyptic consequences. A more sophisticated allegorical analysis of the piece is instead revealing of Bosch s conceptual interpretation of the world and reality itself. The title suggests the piece contains earthly delights , yet the absence of any man like items suggests that Bosch s painting was instead metaphorically symbolic in its iconographic depictions. The center panel should thus be interpreted allegorically in order to decode Bosch s conceptual
