Taking a Look at Medieval Tournaments
In the 17th century, medieval tournaments became unpopular because of the invention of guns and
crossbows. Tournaments are usually competitions in a sport and the winner is rewarded with a
prize. There were many types of tournaments that knights could compete and or participate in
during the Middle Ages. In tournaments, you could gain prizes, reputation, and respect. There were
many things that could change the outcome of tournaments depending on what type of lances you
used or the armor. The tournaments served as a symbol for lives of knights in the Middle Ages. This
is shown in these three ways: chivalry, their daily life, and types of battles they participated in.
Chivalry was the code that knights practiced daily. This code knights lived by, consisted of
religious, moral, and social protocols. The religious protocol is exemplified by always keeping
faith in themselves and their peers. Another way that religion was exemplified by their code,
was to worship God and keep his church in check, and to not sin. They were also required to
always hold forth the truth. Some ways that exemplified their morality, were by living for fame
and glory. Knights had the obligation to be social, to respect their elders and to take orders from
those who had more power than they did as a knight. The knight would take on the challenges of
bravely fighting to defend their lords. There were many things made at tournaments, one of which
was respect and reputation. Being respected as a

Hair Blonde Stereotypes
Better Than a Blonde?
Do you think brunettes and redheads are superior? Well, think again. For years, blondes have been
associated with words such as dumb , needy , promiscuous and other unflattering adjectives. Even
with these unfortunate stereotypes, research proves that blondes may be the exact opposite. Those
with blonde hair are smarter, wealthier, and are genetically predispositioned to have attractive
qualities.
Blondes have been proven to be the most intelligent when compared to other hair shades. In a
study conducted by the Ohio State University where 10,878 females were surveyed, blonde
women enjoyed an average IQ of 103.2. Those with brown hair mustered a mere 102.7. Redheads
managed 101.2. And what s with black haired women? Theirs was an average IQ of 100.5
(Matyszezyk 2016). Blondes typically have a stigmatism associated with them, such as being dumb
and having little common sense. This stereotype often appears in the media, with numerous movies
focused around blonde women with little intelligence. While this doesn t automatically equate
directly to genetics, it can mean that blonde women are better set up for success. Research by the
National Longitudinal Survey of Youth shows that people with naturally blondhair were found to
have typically grown up in environments with more reading materials available to them, allowing
for more intellectual stimulation during their early growth period than people with other hair colors
had (Ricevuto 2016).

Ethics Of Embryos
Embryo gene modification is a very controversial topic. Some people believe that it could
potentially provide a valuable way to decrease the chances of genetic diseases at birth, whereas
others think that it could lead to unethical uses such as designer babies . In this essay, I will
expand on the arguments put forward by different people concerning their views on genetic
manipulation, and I will also attempt to put into brief the broad topic of geneediting and artificial
fertilisation. The UK HumanFertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) has recently made a
decision to give scientists in London permission to genetically edit spare human embryos from
women who have undergone IVF. The scientists want to make some genes in leftover... Show more

This is why I created an online survey and sent it to all of my friends here at Marlborough
College, to see what people generally thought about genetic manipulation. The first question I
asked was very simple, it was: Were you aware that the manipulation of genes from IVF embryos
has been allowed in the UK? I got two clear answers 60% no; 40% yes. This worried me, because
not many people seemed to be aware of the massive decision that had taken place, which could
very well affect them in the future. The next question I asked got much more variety of answers
than the last one. I asked: Do you think that gene manipulation could potentially be considered
immoral? These are the responses I

Poetry Analysis – Whoso List to Hunt
Poetry Analysis Whoso List To Hunt
Whoso List To Hunt is a Petrarchan sonnet by Thomas Wyatt, which is known as an Italian sonnet,
consisting of an octave and a sestet. This sonnet revolves around the themes of unrequited love,
sexism, complexity, obsession and passion. Wyatt uses a collection of poetic techniques within the
sonnet in order to display the power and desire the man has for the woman.
The structure of this sonnet corresponds to a Petrarchan sonnet. This is identified by the rhyming
scheme abba abba cde cde . The sonnet is constructed by an octave, which are two quatrains
combined then a sestet following after that.
Whoso List To Hunt was based in the English Renaissance period during the late 15th century to the

The poet in lines 5 6 cannot take his fatigued mind off the deer as she continues to flee. my
wearied mind Draw from the deer, but as she fleeth afore, . These lines signify his obsession of
possessing his prey. The use of the poetic term consonance , repetitions of non vowel sounds, in
line 6, Draw from the deer expresses the reoccurring longing desire and passion for the deer
(woman). Another instance in which consonances are used, as she fleeth afore, Fainting I follow.
I leave off therefore . In this line there is an unremitting repetition of the letter F which gives a
great indication that the hunter is out of breath and exhausted. When she flees, it quotes, fainting I
follow . He can only barely catch up to the wind that follows behind her, so he realises here that
the chase is futile. He apprehends the fact that the deer is not welcoming his affection, which refers
back to the theme of unrequited love . Wyatt in addition introduces a second metaphor , wind in
which he uses to describe the woman. The wind symbolises agility, freedom and is impossible to
capture. The first octave makes out that this was all a wasted hunt, and that the poet is officially
unsuccessful.
In the closing sestet, the hunter addresses the other suitors who are determined to capture her that
they have absolutely no chance and warns them that they ll suffer deep consequences if

Marxist Analysis On Class Conflict In Lord Of The Flies
A Marxist Analysis on Class Conflict in Lord of the Flies
The Ideology of Golding refers to the Cold War conflict between the Open minded Democracy in
his presentation of Ralph whereas Jack is the authoritarian communism. Based on Dobie, Ann
Brewster s Wadsworth Cengage Learning, 2008 we know that Marxists do not see any literary
works as an appealing article but as products of the socioeconomic aspects. Similarly Lord of the
Flies authenticates a Marxist principle explained by the Class Conflict in the boys attempts of
civilization and decentralization. Regardless of the boys imitation of the social group that they
think would reflect the adult world believably it turned into barbarity and bloodstained violence.
Marxism is as always quoted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Piggy is the most meticulous, sensitive and the intellectualist of the island. It is his intellectual

On the contrary, is the personality of Jack, He demonstrates Militarism as it borders on
Totalitarianism. He is cruel and preoccupied with hunting and slaying pigs. His sadism builds up
during the course of the novel, and he eventually turns cruelly on the other boys; He fakes an
interest in the rules established on the island by Ralph, but only if they allow him to impose
punishment. He best represents mobocracy which is proved later by the rejection of Ralph s
enforced order. The results of this act indicate the dangers inherent in an anarchistic system based

Why College Is Not For College
==========Despite the benefits and securities, there are a number of reasons why college is
not meant for everyone. The person may not perform well or even learn anything from college.
A person can be successful with or without a college degree. College is known by many as a rite of
passage (Addison 256). The misconception is that people believe that you have to receive a four
year education in order to be successful in life. A collegeeducation is like a key that opens the doors
to more opportunities in life. However, it is not always needed.
============Many people have either gone to college for many generations or they will be the
first members of their family to ever go to college. For some the idea of going to college has
been heavily pushed by those in their family. However, going to college should be a personal
decision. For example, some people going to college is so that they can have they can have a
secure future as they grow older. Some people may not realize this, but there are a lot of options
and opportunities available for those with just a high school diploma. Even though not having a
degree can limit some options there are plenty of careers out there that do not require a degree.
Also, a person could become successful just from working From the Bottom Up. However, going
to college could potentially lead to more opportunities in the future. College is a way for a person
to invest in them self (Attending College). College can give someone the

Introduction Of The Crystal Palace

Talli s History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World s Industry in
1851
From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its
Royal Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa
particularly. As the British Empiresoon became the largest empire in history, this era was later
known as the Victorian Era (John 129).
To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the
world, Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first world s fair, namely, The Great
Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations , at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London,
from May 1 to October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods
displayed at the exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph
Paxton and Owen Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of
visitors around the world during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were
transferred to the South Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the Imperial archive
(Barringer 11), to promote industrial and commercial education among domestic artisans and
skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a hope that the nation s economic growth

There is legend of a fallen star a star that can bring happiness to anyone who can tame it and I
Theresa Herondale will find it as long as it takes. The star I seek has a power to grant anyone
who obtains it a wish, when I was a child. I had heard stories about the star how an enchanting
golden light surrounds it, as if it had fallen from the heavens and the air around had become thick
and sweet. All the children wanted to find the starbut we were all told it was just a storybut no

Analysis Of The Half-Mammals Of Dixie, By George Singleton
South Carolina is too small for a republic and too large for an insane asylum, James Lewis
Petigru is a perfect quote to describe The Half Mammals of Dixie by George Singleton. We will
explore how much the characters in the story would make per year, try to determine their cost of
living and look at how the depressed southern economyplays a role on the rone of these stories.
Economicsand a time of depression had to play a big part in why Singleton chose to write these
stories the way he did so by going over the short stories Fossils and Bank of America we will get
a better understanding of how big the economic impact really was. Fossils by George Singleton
tells the story of a young boy named Compton and his father during the 1970 s. Compton was
attending a school that was going through the racial integration process. Compton s father was anti
racismand was trying to prevent a racist man in town, Mr. Dorne from keeping the news of the
outside world from the people of the town. Compton says, So my father maybe the only man in
town in favor of integration responded in the only way he knew how. He awoke me at midnight.
(Singleton, 20) Takes his son on a journey to fight racism in their small town attacking Mr.
Dorne who is a part of the KKK. Compton says, I tiptoed to what used to be a guest bedroom,
where he now slept, and of course didn t find him there (Singleton 34). Although it never says
exactly what his father s profession is in the story it does make several mentions to him tearing
down buildings so maybe he works construction but it would seem that his profession allows him
to own a three bedroom home, afford to take care of his son Compton and own a car all on his
own. Based on the research and the assumption that Compton s father was middle class he
probably made around ten thousand per year. Bank of America by George Singleton is about 4
childhood friends, who at the time of the story are all grown up and coming back to their childhood
treehouse to drink, hunt, fish and talk about their lives past and present. The main characters have a
vast employment span between them, Russel the carpenter, Dean the banker, Evan the English
professor and me, (Singleton, 139) Some of the

Values In The Great Gatsby
Character Values In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the story takes place in the
1920s. During the 1920s probation caused many people to have private parties. Many of the
characters have values that have to do with finding someone or something they need. Also some of
the characters values change by the end of the story. This can change the overall intention of the
story. The character Jay Gatsbyplays a large part in the the book. Gatsby is a wealthy man living
in West Egg. Throughout the novel it is clear that Gatsby has only one thing in life that he
values; nothing is more important to him than his long lost love, Daisy. The writer explained to
us that Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be right across the bay (83). He spends
most of his time throwing huge parties solely in hopes that one day his party will attract Daisy
to his home. Gatsby goes out of his way to get reconnected with Daisy after so many years, and
in this way, shows how much she means to him. As the plot reaches the climax, Gatsby takes the
blame for the death of Myrtle, in order to protect his beloved Daisy. He was plans to flee from the
law, but delays his departure from West Egg hoping to let Daisy know that he loves her. As a
result, Gatsby dies for the sake of Daisy, the only one he values in his life.... Show more content on

s values shift and she begins to care about how much Gatsby loves her and worries about how she

Rescinding Job Offer Case Study
Employer May Have Violated ADA By Rescinding Job Offer On August 24th, 2015, the 10th
Circuit Court of Appeal reversed a lower District Court ruling in Wyoming that found an
employer not in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for rescinding a job offer
to a disabled employee. The reversal operates to clarify under what circumstances employers must
make reasonable accommodations to disabled employees within the meaning of the ADA.
Complaints under the ADA in relation to disability are one of the top complaints against
employers, totaling over 25,000 complaints in 2014 alone. As such, it is a serious issue to which
employers should give proper notice and take steps to address within the workplace. The ADA

It is expected that the ruling will operate to permit disabled individuals expanded opportunities
within healthcare fields. This ruling is important to employers, especially those in healthcare,
who must be aware of their duties to provide reasonable accommodations to employees where
there is no significant safety risk. That a disabled individual is working within the healthcare
industry is insufficient in and of itself to demonstrate a safety risk, as are obscure and unlikely
risks that may be articulated by an employer. Thus, employers must be sure to provide the
reasonable accommodation unless they can demonstrate an actual significant safety risk, or risk
liability for failing to do so. If you are an employer and are unsure if you are required under the

Laocoon s Influence on Renaissance Artists
The Renaissance was indeed a proud moment in history. It was a time of the revitalization of
antiquity, breakthrough scientific discoveries, and profound, inspirational artwork. The desire and
urge to establish stronger connections with the classical past brought about the search and
discovery of many ancient manuscripts and artworks. One of the most celebrated discoveries
occurred during the height of the Renaissance: The Laocoon. Perhaps one of the world s most
famous Hellenistic sculptures, it was originally located in the palace of Titus. It was then lost for
over a thousand years before its rediscovery in 1506. Pope Julius IIimmediately acquired it, and
displayed it in the Vatican Museums. The renowned discovery of one of the few... Show more

The Trojans accepted the gift, and at night, the Greeks slipped out of the horse and opened the
city, which led to the fall of Troy. Laocoon was a high priest of Troy who warned against
accepting the wooden horse. Frustrated that the Trojans were ignoring his warnings, Laocoon
threw a spear at the giant wooden horse, and spurned the rage of Poseidon (who, along with the
other Gods favored the Greeks) to send giant sea serpents to strangle him.
One of the major significances of the Laocoon Group was the timing and effect of its celebrated
discovery. Prior to its discovery, the only known records of its existence were from ancient
manuscripts and records by Pliny the Elder. Buried underground for over a millennium, the
Laocoon Group emerged once again after its discovery near the baths of Titus in 1506. This was
during the height of the Renaissance, an era of the revitalization of the classics. Due to the strong
desire to possess the great works of antiquity, its discovery was an immediate success. Discovering
the Laocoon was like discovering the Titantic; an ancient treasure finally revealed after endless
years of searching.
Pliny the Elder (23 79) was an ancient author and philosopher who lived from the reign of Nero
to that of Vespasian. His encyclopedia, Natural History, was a collection of much of the known
knowledge of his time. In it, he describes the Laocoon as a work

Character Analysis Of The Movie Full Metal Jacket
Leonard Lawrence, who is a major character in the movie Full Metal Jacket also known as Private
Gomer Pyle, is an overweight, slow minded recruit who becomes the focus of Gunnery Sergeant
Hartman s attention. In the course of the movie, Leonard undergoes a development and a
significant mental change. The character was discriminated and humiliated by Sergeant Hartman
because of his enervate personality at the boot camp. Leonard s portrayal changes when his fellow
recruits mistreat him, which made Leonard become dark and psychopathic throughout the movie.
Through Private Pyle s character, Stanley Kubrick showed that regardless of who you are and
what you can do, war will wipe all that away, leaving the darkness and a killer in you.
Kubrick introduced Private Pyle in the opening scene of the movie, where a group of recruits gets
an introduction to the boot camp from Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, a foul mouthed drill instructor
who bullies, and discriminates his recruits with harsh words. When it was Leonard s turn to be
introduced, Sergeant Hartman insulted him more than he did to his other recruits for being fat and
making an obnoxious grin. The name Gomer Pyle is an insulting name for a Marine who is prone
to screwing up, which is why Stanley Kubrick, the director named Leonard as Gomer Pyle. Pyle s
vulnerability was very visible from his profile and physical appearance, thus his grinning at
Sergeant Hartman supported that Pyle is dim witted and this made him earn the

Comparing Love In Her And Arthur Hiller s Love Story
I ve always had mixed feelings when it came to films about love. For me, the idea of love can be
presented is such a basic way it becomes obvious to what will happen next. Essentially, I get bored
with the same old generic portrayal on what love should look like or be. Spike Jonze s Her and
Arthur Hiller s LoveStory was such a refreshing take on how love can come in all forms and doesn
t need to follow a sort of guideline, like every other love filmseems to be. It was interesting to view
the contrast in the two films. Though very different, there were many aspects to the plot and the

displayed how traumatic this news was on him, and his performance delivered the feelings of
sadness and frustration even for me as the viewer to experience. The end of the film showing the

as he was, he had to remain strong and comfort her in the last moments of her life. Interestly
enough, I found the ending of Her to be very similar to Love Story. Even though Samantha doesn t

Twain s Huckleberry Finn and Kerouac s On the Road The River and the Road
One element that separates a good novel from a great novel is its enduring effects on society. A
great novel transcends time; it changes and mirrors the consciousness of a civilization. One such
novel is Mark Twain s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. For the past one hundred and fifteen years,
it has remained in print and has been one of the most widely studied texts in high schools and
colleges. According to Lionel Trilling, its success is due to Twains voice of unpretentious truth (92)
embodied in the young narrator Huck Finn who reveals the hypocrisy and moral deprivation of
society through his innocent observations. It is a picaresque novel, or novel of ... Show more content

Mark Twain s influence upon Kerouac is evident in On the Road as is suggested in biographical
details. Warren French states in his biography of Kerouac that Kerouac s first attempt to write a
novel at age 11 was an apparently quite slavish imitation of [Twain s] Adventures of Huckleberry
Finn (4), and Gerald Nicosia notes that Twain was one of the writers that Kerouac followed in his
use of idiomatic American diction (344). In addition, Kerouac himself warns his editor Helen
Taylor in a letter, no more irresponsible copy editing of my Mark Twain Huckleberry prose (131).
He imitated the naГЇve prose of Twain that only observes life and does not judge it, thereby
creating an honest reflection of life that ultimately affects the moral sensibilities of its audience.
One human aspect of life that is mirrored in the two narratives is the familial relationship
between each novel s two main characters. Huck would be as incomplete without Jim, as Sal
would be without Dean. Every place that Huck lives with Jim is his home. When they return to
the island after finding a corpse housebound and drifting, Huck explains, We got home all safe
(Twain 72), and after the fog separates them, he conveys, We said there warn t no home like a raft,
after all (124). Their relationship, symbolized in their emphasis of home, reveals the need for strong
familial ties that enable them to overcome the harsh social realities they encounter.

The Native American Spirit Quest Of A Half Indian Foster...
Sherman Alexie s novel Flight explores the Native American spirit quest of a half Indian foster
child. Alexie brilliantly invites readers into the mind of a cynical fifteen year old who calls
himself Zits. Zits uses humor, violence, and shock value to cope with how he has been treated
by his absent father and the foster system. Zits uses his vocabulary as a defense mechanism
which reveals how comfortable he feels in various situations. The following paragraphs analyze
how Zits speech patterns provide insight to how he feels about certain characters and situations.
Zits uses a distinctive naming system when he is unaware of a character s real name. Zits
method of naming characters reveals how comfortable he is talking about them. He bases most
of his names on appearance. For instance, Zits sees a young Indian boy while he is in the body of
Gus and he observes that the Indian can t be more than five years old and he holds a bow (pg.
59). Zits then refers to this character as Bow Boy for the remainder of the book (pg. 59). Zits
uses this method for naming almost every character he meets. Characters that he likes are given
names such as Small Saint while characters he feels anger toward often remain unnamed (pg. 61).
For example, Zits mother, father and grandfather are never mentioned by name. Zits method of
naming also reveals how he feels about himself. I m ashamed that I look like a bag of zits tied to a

Essay On Social Anxiety
Anxiety, Relationships, and What to Do
Introduction
Social anxiety disorder is one of the most common mental illnesses in the United States. Chances
are you know somebody who has dealt with this issue (Kessler, etc., 2005) because it causes one
third of the population to experience distress or disability. It can affect quality of life by generating
fear of social situations and resulting in social withdrawal. One of the most central aspects of
human life is having close relationships particularly romantic relationships. Social anxiety is
associated with difficulty forming and maintaining close relationships (Lampe, etc., 2003). Despite
the disorder s high prevalence, its effects on relationships are not yet fully understood. Many ...

Overcoming the Barriers At a glance, the research may seem to paint a bleak picture, but there is
reason for optimism. Firstly, not all socially anxious individuals have difficulties in their romantic
relationships. Secondly, the better that relationship scientists and clinical psychologists understand
these phenomena, the clearer the solutions can become; indeed, some are already becoming visible
for those who experience difficulty. A big part of the way social anxietyaffects the quality of
relationships appears to be related to trust and support. This gives us a good place to start when
we re trying to improve our relationships (Simpson, 2007). The low levels of trust of socially
anxious individuals are linked to the symptoms and cognitive effects of the disorder itself: Other
people are often viewed as overly critical or even hostile, regardless of any evidence. How much
we can trust others depends on how much we can view them as having our best interests at heart
(Simpson, etc., 2007). To combat this and view a romantic partner as trustworthy, couples need to
work together. The way social anxiety affects perceived support is somewhat complex. Socially
anxious people seem to have trouble noticing the support their romantic partners provide. This
comes back to the fact that social anxiety makes it very difficult to view others as benevolent or as
having good intentions (Simpson, 2007). It creates a

The Problem Of Underage Drinking
Have you ever heard of underage drinking? Well, it s a serious problem that happens s every day.
Within this article, you will find all the problems that happen because of underage drinking. The
CDC ( Center for Disease Control) did a study on underage drinking it states. That Alcohol is the
most commonly used and abused drug among youth in the United States . Also, the legal drinking
age is 21 and people 12 to 20 are 11% consumers of alcohol. Then before this study in 2010
drinking took 4,300 lives of youth each year. It s a proven fact that most underage drinkers
consume more drinks then adult drinkers. In 2010 189,000 emergency room visits were for
underage drinkers or condition dealing with underage drinkers. Then another study in 2015 had a
survey that was given to high schoolstudents showed 33% of students drank 18% binge drink 8%
drove after drinking 20% rode with a driver who had drunk. High school students who drink are
most likely to have school problems, higher absence and poor or failing grades, social
problems, fighting, lack of participation in youth activities, legal problems, getting arrested for
driving or physically hurting someone while drunk, physical problems, hangovers or illnesses,
unplanned, and unprotected sexual activity.
Some of the behavioral and physiological factors tend to increase or decrease a person s risk for

Chivalry Code Of Conduct
Chivalry is the code of conduct that was followed by knights all around in the Dark Ages. It was
used to show honor and was built upon the foundation of righteousness, to protect the weak and
to give to the poor respect those of high authority as well as those who were not in high authority
positions were held in high esteem of those who followed Chivalric ideals. Most people did not
live up to the code fully, but that did not stop people from following it to its fullest. It was highly
influential to people because of its religious and courteous ideals that affected not only people at
home, but also on the battlefield. Chivalryhas a long history and has many different versions that
still hold the same ideals.

ABSTRACT
802.11 wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) becomes most important these days. Whether it
would be simple range extender for a home wired Ethernet interface, or as a wireless interface,
WLAN provides mobility, ease of access and affordable. Most of the 802.11 wireless network uses
the frequency of 2.4GHz, which leads the network to be unsafe and more vulnerable than
traditional Ethernet networks. In general, security issues for the Network layer has been discussed
rapidly, but where as for MAC layer security mechanisms has not been extensively discussed.
Wireless network security has gained attention due to the vulnerabilities exposed in the open
communication platform. Most prevalent wireless Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is
IEEE 802.11, which considers all the nodes in the network are safe cooperative. However,
attackers may make nodes misbehave in order to disrupt network performance, obtain extra
bandwidth and consume resources. These MAC layer misbehaviors can be called as Denial of
Service (DoS) attacks which can disrupt the network operation. Influencing security flaws in the
IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol even an average person with basic knowledge on wireless networks can
launch MAC layer denial of service (DOS) attacks. In this paper we study two types of MAC layer
Denial Of Service attacks that can be easily operated by an

Bill Nye-Ken Ham Debate
Of course, our journey isn t about the creation evolution debate. That s good because the creation
evolution debate is an emotional topic and emotion can cloud thinking. While we ll use the topic
of creation evolution for examples, the particulars of the debate isn t the focus. Therefore, since
sound and sane reasoning is the destination of this journey, we ll focus on reason. Another key
point is that this journey isn t about personalities either. So while we ll use the Bill Nye Ken Ham
debate for some of the examples, we won t attack either of these men. They aren t the focus. On the
contrary, this journey is about problems in thinking and solutions to those problems. Even though
these men aren t the focus, both Bill Nye and Ken Ham are

Development Of A Simulation Management System
Summary
The main contribution of the proposed research is the development of a Simulation Management
System. Simulation models are vital to modern scientific research. These models tend to be
extremely complex, often with many sources of uncertainties and numerous factors. To understand
the impact of these factors and their interactions, on the simulation model results, requires effective
design of experiments. DoE allows construction of well defined procedures for ordering experiment
outcomes and offers a framework that can be used to replicate and validate those outcomes. In this
study, we propose an approach that integrates concepts of model driven engineering, intelligent
agent technology, and variability modeling to support the management of the lifecycle of a
simulation experiment. The Model Driven Engineering (MDE) methodology provides a framework
and strategy to move from the platform independent experiment domain space to the technical
space involving platform specific executable simulation experiment scripts. Experiment design
modeling is introduced for configurable experiment synthesis and execution. Feature oriented
variability modeling is used to design a family of experiments by allowing explicit specification of
variability in the configuration of experiments Adaptation is needed for continuous management of
stochastic simulation experiments. In simulation lifecycle management systems, adaptation is
proposed for dynamic experiment model updating.

Comparing Two Newspaper Article Analysis
The reporting and presentation of the same news incident in different newspapers are very different.
This essay will analyze the articles about the association between concussion and suicidal risk. The
Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail present the same story with several differences between them.
Most importantly, we will further analyze some implications of these differences, namely in the
appearance, language, and the content.
Firstly, we will analyze the differences in the appearance of these two newspaper articles, namely
The Globe and Mail Concussion raise suicide risk, study says and Toronto Star Concussions linked

Toronto Star presents Dr. Donald Redelmeier as an Internal medicine specialist and senior

four times the population norm in comparing to three times the population norm of the weekday
injuries. This gives the authenticity of the statistical data. In addition, The Toronto Star mentions
both men and women were equally affected by suicide and, about 80 per cent patients had seen
doctors in the month previous to suicide. The Toronto Star article concludes the story focusing
the importance of the awareness program to both public health and practicing physicians. On the
other hand, The Globe and Mail introduce Dr. Donald Redelmeier as a senior author and senior
core scientist at Toronto s Institute for Clinical Evaluative sciences . The Globe and Mail discuss
another research by Dr. Gabriela Ilie who relates the concussion to a number of the serious

Jealousy In Othello Essay
Jealousy is originally introduced into the story when Iago becomes upset by Othello s successful
convincing of Desdemona to marry him. His hate for him is further increased by Othello s other
accolades like becoming a general in the Venetian army. In the mind of Iago, he is inferior to
Othello in these two areas, which is why he plans to attack him on these points. Iagothen makes
plans to both make Othellolose his prestigious General position in the military (I,iii,395), and cause
mistrust and grief for Othello and Desdemona, eventually causing a rift in their relationship
(I,iii,339). Despite Iago s ideal encapsulation of the villain persona, in which his nature is one of

This, though small, made Othello consider that his wife may in fact be cheating; this was
important because it sowed a seed of doubt in Othello s mind. In a few dialogues between
Othello and Iago, after Iago talked with Cassio, Iago twists his previous conversation in order to
make Othello more and more suspicious. In regards to one such conversation Omer and Verona
said This exchange shows Iago s knack for seeding these negative ideas through implied
communications, (#). After this interaction, Othello is left with a deep desire to know what was
said between the two characters; which leads him to obsess over the thought of his wife s possible
affair.
Once the seeds were sown, the other character who displays this extreme jealousy is the
protagonist himself. Othello s initial jealousy of Cassio and his wife s relationship after Iago
essentially brainwashes him into completely disbelieving his wife and convincing himself that
she was having an affair, ultimately leading to an uncontrollable rage. Once this happened,
Othello began to consult Iago on how to exact revenge on his offenders . Othello convinces
himself that this revenge mut be taken in order to show his wife that he will not be made a fool
of and cheated on. This however is in a way hard to comprehend; due to Othello not embodying
this villainous persona the same way Iago does. The character of Othello is closer to that of an
archetypal war hero, and embodies qualities such as strength, smarts, and

Sexualizing Women
Women are sexualized, and have been sexualized, in and out of the public s eye, for decades.
Sexualizing women has had a huge impact on the entertainment industry, especially for men. Many
retail stores use sexual appeal to sell their products and other companies, like Playboy, thrive off
the money made from under clothed models. These companies have made millions, if not billions,
of dollars because people (mostly men) are willing to pay for a still photograph for certain
(unmentionable) pleasures. Now, to each their own on their opinion to stop sexualizing women,
however, unless some drastic influence happens, sexualizing women might stop but, it is not very

Summary Of Birth Order Theory
This study was conducted to support Alfred Alder s birth order theory in regards to personality
characteristics. The hypothesis that first born children are more responsible, successful, and
obedient than their younger siblings, while last born children are more manipulative, outgoing
and rebellious were supported by these results. These findings are similar to Paulhus, Trapnell,
Chen (1999) study, results of the study indicated firstborns were nominated by their siblings as
most conscientious as well as most achieving and later born children were more frequently
nominated as most liberal, agreeable, and rebellious. Another study supporting the hypothesis is a
study conducted by Zweigenhaft and Von Ammon (2000). In the study it was hypothesized that
later born children were more rebellious then firstborns. To do this they examined the birth order
of a group of U.S. college students who had been arrested for engaging in civil disobedience in a
labor dispute. Later born children were more likely than firstborns to have been arrested. This
provides evidence that later born children are more likely than firstborns to be rebellious.... Show

How Micro Transactions Can Use For Play And Paid Games Are...
Micro transactions
Background
The use of micro transactions in free to play and paid games are the norm nowadays. The different
types of micro transactions in games can range from simple color changes, buffs, buying items, and
account transfers. The concept behind micro transactions is to let the consumer choose what they
want, and it lets the developer earn extra money on the side. The problem with using micro
transaction in games is that the developers will stop making good games, and instead make games
revolve around the necessity of using micro transactions (Rybicki, 2006).
Revenue
The amount of money a free to play game earns will shock most people. According to SuperData,
a marketing intelligence firm, Riot Games in 2013 earned $624 million from League of Legends
(Jarvey, 2014). League of Legends is a free to play game that has micro transaction. The appeal of
generating money through micro transactions in gaming are stronger than ever with profits
reported by the likes of Riot Games. The following chart shows the top ten online free to play

Prenatal development
First, we must look at the prenatal development. The pregnancy development is one of the
processes that can determine children s psychological and physical conditions. The first trimester
of conception to four weeks the zygote begins to develop the spinal cord, nervous system,
gastrointestinal system, hearts and lungs. By eight weeks the zygote is then referred to as the
embryo. At this time within the embryo the face is forming with eyes, ears, mouth, and tooth
buds; the brain is forming as well as the arms and legs and the heartbeat can be heard. Twelve
weeks after the conception the embryo is now called a fetus and is about three inches long, and
weighs one ounce. Normally, the fetus will have arms, legs, fingers, and toes movements. The fetus
can smile, suck, and swallow and sex can be noticeable (Santrock, 2015).
The second trimester is about sixteen weeks (the middle of the three months) the heartbeat is
strong, the skin is thin, and finger nails and toe nails are forming. During the twenty weeks of
pregnancy the fetus is about twelve inches long and weighs approximately one pound. In these
weeks the fetus s heartbeat is audible with a stethoscope. In this time the hair, eyelashes, and
eyebrows are present. By the end of the second trimester the fetus is twenty four weeks from the

Examples Of Psychoanalysis In Alien
C. Psychoanalysis as a political weapon in Alien
i. Male action and female inaction There are two major examples of male activeness and female
passiveness in Alien: the chestburster scene and the differences between Ripley and Dallas as the
protagonist. In the iconic chestburster scene the crew are seated peacefully as they prepare to
return to stasis, however this peace is disturbed when Kane convulses and a chestburster bursts out
of him. Only the male characters are active in this scene: Parker and Dallas initially comfort and
hold Kane down, Brett holds Kane s legs down, and Ash runs from the other side (farther aways
then Ripley and Lambert) to help. Ripley and Lambert initially reach out towards Kane but
eventually watch in horror as the alien bursts from him. Dallas, Parker, and Brett were closer to
Kane than Ripley so they have more reason for helping; and Ash is the science officer so it makes
sense for him to rush towards a medical emergency. Switching one of the male characters with a
female character could have expounded on the seriousness of the scene (before the arrival of the
chestburster).
While subtle, the difference between the actions taken by Dallas and Ripley exemplify the
heterosexual differences in labor. Dallas protagonist is constantly in motion: investigating the
signal, defending Ripley from the dead facehugger, and hunting the alien in the vents. Ripley s
actions as protagonist are less active, especially since she follows Dallas vent plan and

In this world of rapid change, it s extremely difficult for a company to stay ahead of the game even

Most importantly it affects quot;microscopic photoplankton quot; which rest at the bottom of the
food chain, placing us in extreme danger (Goldfarb 288). Henry Lee, leading researcher on ozone

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), says that UV rays will only have a slight effect on
oceans, though. He says the problem lies on the fact that 70 percent of the Earth s surface is
covered with water, making it a widespread problem.
In addition to that, humans exposed to excess UV rays over a period of time are likely to
develop some form of cancer (Singer and Crandall npg). The EPA released a report that stated if
CFC s weren t controlled, in the future there will be approximately quot;40 million additional cases
of non melanoma skin cancer found and 800,000 additional skin cancer deaths quot; (Singer and

Now that scientists know what these and other quot;culprits quot; do, they re trying to find
solutions to this world wide problem. When they found these chemicals to be harmful,
environmentalists didn t hesitate in taking action.
They placed a boycott on the use of aerosol spray cans. The U.S. and Canada responded by
banning quot;CFC powered spray cans, quot; and that, along with Europe agreeing to cut back by
35 percent, caused the rate of damage to fall drastically (Singer and Crandall npg). Therefore,

Women s Equality And Equality
Today Women in America can scarcely imagine not having the right to vote or choose a career or
attend a university. Young women in college take these opportunities and rights for granted, but it
hasn t been that long ago in human history that women found themselves in a very patriarchal, male
dominated world. The rise of feminism in the United Stateshas gradually brought about women s
equality in just the past century and for that we women are very grateful. But are there exceptions
to full equality and should there be complete equality in all situations?
What is Feminism? To many it seems to refer to a radical group of women who call out any man
who treats women differently then he would treat another man. To others it is the righteous call to
women s equality, discouraging the disparity between the sexes. But what is its literal definition?
The actual definition of feminism is: The belief that men and women should have equal rights
and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes. (1.)
Using that definition many more people would consider themselves feminists, but how have the
values for women changed because of them and have the changes made things better or worse for
women and for society? If women were given the exact same rights as men or were
accommodated by society in all situations to be equal, what would change? For women to be

Adonia Research Papers
Miami was hot. It was an early Sunday morning in June when I found myself in Florida, driving
to the port of Miami. Still tired from the red eye flight the day before, my excitement pushed away
the grogginess that had enveloped me since touching down. The Adonia came into view, Carnival s

while on holiday. The ship sails from Miami to the Dominican Republic where we would be

When I first heard of Fathom and its volunteering cruise, I was intrigued. The last few years,
volunteerism has been on the rise. Travellers want to contribute to local communities and give back
to the environment on their days off. However, not everyone is able to spend months away from
home to volunteer abroad. Fathom seemed to offer this niche group a solution: providing travellers
the opportunity to help in some way on their holiday.

Male vs. Female Offenders
The prison world is predominately male dominated. As the years go by, female incarceration levels
have been rapidly increasing. The prisons in early days didn t have to worry about dealing with
two different types of inmates as there were not that many females incarcerated. While male and
female inmates do have some similarities, they also have some distinct differences. The way they
conduct themselves in prisonare different; as are they way they interact with other inmates. Males
typically are in prison for more violent crimes than women, making the maximum security prisons
mainly male. Throughout this paper, these differences and a few similarities are discussed.

Many females in prisons find surrogate families while they are being incarcerated. It is a personality

as being in prison. Female inmates tend to have problems that males don t that bond them together

Homosexuality is prevalent in female institutions, largely because a high percentage of women

How Did Roman Influence Greek Architecture

The most important invention in the Roman architecture was the Arch, and thanks to the arch the
development of the aqueduct water conduct was created. This allowed every single house in Rome
to have water carried from the mountaintops with the ability for human use. The arch had symbolic

ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF ORGANIZATIONAL
CULTURE
1. INTRODUCTION
One of the significant elements while discussing about organization development is to discuss its
own existing culture as the culture itself is part of organization behavior that gives significant role
in shaping organizational sustainability.
Above all there is a need to recognize the right culture for any organization to achieve excellence.
Peters and Waterman (1982) clearly described organizational cultureas the human side of an

While preparing the planned change, an organization must be able to identify its own culture.
According to Md Zabid Abdul Rashid, Sambasivan and Azmawani Abdul Rahman (2003)
organizational culture is associated with attitudes towards organizational change. Different types of
organizational culture have different level of acceptance on attitude towards organizational change.
Organizational culture gives impacts on organizational change process. While referring to the
transformational type of change, there is no doubt that the transformation process, which regarded
as the most complex and comprehensive type of change process requires radical shift that covers
change in culture, behaviour and mindset of all the components within the organization.
Thus it is clearly understood here that complete understanding of organizational culture will lead to
and rightful approaches to tackle any organizational development and change process.
Organizational culture decides the way its members make decisions, the way they make
interpretation, manage and operate. In other words, organizational culture affects organization s
competitive position. Inability to manage organizational culture will give negative consequences on
organization s performance.

Lakeland Employment Research Paper
For this project, I chose to learn more about my place of employment, the City of Lakeland,
Florida. The City of Lakeland, incorporated on January 1, 1885, is a local municipal government
agency whose primary function is to provide services to the citizens within the corporate city
limits as well as water and electric to customers in unincorporated Polk County and the vast
number of visitors to the city. The departments within the City of Lakeland currently provide over
180 services. And, to fulfill its responsibilities, Lakeland employs 2,172 full time and 552 part
time employees. One of the main reasons I chose the City of Lakeland is to not only gain valuable
insight into my own place of employment, but to also obtain additional knowledge... Show more

The majority of the union employees working in mid level positions choose not to advance to the
upper level supervisory positions because they do not want to lose some of their union benefits or
pay. Thus, the number of internal applicants for promotional supervisory positions suffered. The
stretch assignments help employees in lower level positions train and gain experience for the
promotional opportunities. An new opportunity that is currently available to City employees is a
training class being offered during the months of Mark and April. The two hour Interviewing
Skills for Excellence training session is offered by the City s HR Department. As the training flyer
states, this is an excellent opportunity for employees to gain experience, tips, and knowledge to
enhance their interviewing skills (Human Resources, 2018). Not only will this training be valuable
to City employees seeking promotional opportunities, but it can be used no matter where their

Essay On The Berlin Wall
On November 9, 1989; an event occurred that changed the county as a whole; the Berlin Wall fell.
This significant event represented the end of communism in Germany. The German Democratic
Republic (GDR) reunited with the Federal Republic of Germany on October 3, 1990; one year
after the Wall fell. When the Berlin Wall
fell, both East and West Berlinbecame physically reunified.
There was no longer a wall standing in between the two sides and from here on out, two cities
became one once again. This was a physically reconnection of two sides of East and West Berlin
and the beginning of the loss of identity for those had previously lived in East Berlin(Leventhal).
Kubicek believes that due to many years that East and West Germany were divided that the
people of each side developed differently and had different values. Each side had created it s own
educational system, government and political and views. Kubicek quoted one writer, It will
take us longer to tear down the wall in our heads.... (17). This also applied to those living in East
and West Berlin. East Berliners also viewed those living in West Berlin as boastful, aggressive
and insensitive (Leventhal). They felt unwelcomed and the other half of the city felt very
different to them. West Berliners viewed their side of the city as being less safe and now too
crowded and those from East Berlin were known as the poorer people. City services were
duplicated and in the East side were either closed or lost. Examples

Acidity The Natural Way
Acidity The Natural Way Stomach acids are essential for the digestion of food. Increased
secretion of acids in the stomach gives rise to acidity. Acidity is manifested by several
uncomfortable symptoms such as burning and pain in the chest and stomach; nausea; bitter taste
in mouth; vomiting and discomfort in the stomach. Acidity, been one of the commonest
digestive complaints. At some point in our lives, we have all suffered from these symptoms.
Acidity is generally stimulated by consumption of spicy foods, junk food, carbonated drinks,
fried foods, chocolates, stress or lack of sleep. Obesity, pregnancy and other medical conditions
may also give rise to acidity. Irrespective of the reason, acidity can prove to be an uncomfortable
experience. There are several natural remedies that work wonders in keeping acidity at bay and
also in providing relief from acidity. Though, chronic acidity complaints may require proper
medications. Some of natural remedies are as follows: Bananas They prove to be an effective
antidote for acidity, as it has a high pH value. More the pH value, lesser are the symptoms of
acidity. Banana further, enhances the production of mucous by the stomach lining which reduces
the harmful effects of acidity. The high fibre content of banana decreases the recurrence of acidity.
Apart from banana, watermelon and cucumbers too are effective against acidity. Consumption of
overripe bananas during an attack of acidity is even more beneficial. Cold

Camelot Analysis
This story is set in Camelot 528 A.D. beginning on nineteenth of June (17). The setting is important
because the way of speech was much different then. That would make a big difference for a man
from Connecticut from 1879. Also in this time period there were thatch roofed houses and stone
houses. Also people dressed much differently.
This story is in limited first person. This is important because it only shows the story from the
Connecticut man s point of view. This way you only know his thoughts, not the thoughts of
others. This point of view also gives a more personal feel to the story as you are walking in this
man s shoes as to say. I seemed to believe the boy, I didn t know why. (17). I had mine, the king and
his people had theirs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The woman noticed them too, and said: Ah, I know that sign: thou st a wife at home, poor soul,
and you and she have gone hungry to bed, many s the time, that the little ones might have your

Church and the king. The king winced under this accidental home shot, but kept still; he was
learning his part; and he was playing it well to, for a pretty dull beginner. (291) I chose this quote
because I find it sad that the king didn t really know what his own people went through. He had to
experience these things himself to truly understand their pains. Things in his country may have
been different if he had understood their pains better when he had become

Actors in the Humanitarian Community
It has always been said that the things that are unlikely to happen does actually happen during an
emergency or in a crisis situation. If one accept that it is by fate a crisis happens and do not have
any precautionary measures, then the crisis management is doomed to fail. This holds true when
dealing with humanitarian aids after a disaster, whether man made or of natural cause. It is then of
utmost importance that all the actors in the humanitarian community knows their roles and get their
acts together harmoniously. Figure 1 shows the link between these different actors and how they
work together (GHA Report, 2011). Who are then these actors within the humanitarian community?
Actors in the Humanitarian Community Government A government s role within the humanitarian
community can be classified into two categories. A country may take the role of a recipient or a
donor (GHA, 2014). A government s response is crucial particularly for a recipient government.
Though it is important for individual citizen have their personal contingency plans, but majority of
the problems that arise from a disaster are beyond the individual s capability to solve. The
government, along with its many branches such as the military and local government must fill in
the void. the government should designate evacuation centers, rebuild destroyed houses and take
care of the basic needs for the affected as soon as possible. The government must also act quickly to
create a logistics roadmap in order

Math Knot Theory and Celtic Knots
l Ve always had an interest in Celtic culture. I love the traditional clothing and dancing, but my
favorite part has always been the symbolism and beauty of Celtic Knots. I wondered where the
knots originated and how they were created so symmetrically, which led me to the mathematical
study of knot theory. So my question now is, How has the knot theoryin mathematics influenced and
shaped the tradition of Celtic Knots? Knots in the real world are easy to define and see, such as
tying a shoelace or a rope, but knots in the mathematical world are a bit different. These knots are
joined at the end, making them one continuous line, unable to be pulled apart or untied. They can
be described in mathematical terms as a circle that has been embedded in 3 D dimensional
Euclidean space but in a bit simpler language, a knotis created by putting a flat circle into 3 D
space; therefore making it 3 D. You can not just pull the circle up; that would create a cylinder,
and you can not just round it out; this would create a sphere. You must twist it until it intertwines,
thus creating a knot. Knots can be described in many different ways. For example; a common
method of describing a knot is called a knot diagram, which can be used to describe the many ways
a knot can be drawn. A fundamental problem is presented here though, due to the fact that you must
determine when a knot is represented by more than one description. A full algorithmic solution does
exist to help solve the problem, but

Analysis Of As Good As It Gets
The film As Good As It Gets, reflects on the psychopathologies of three main characters. Marvin
Udall is an obsessive compulsive writer who maintains poor boundaries with those who encounter
him. Simon Bishop is a homosexual artist who struggles with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
about his estranged relationship with his parents and following an attack in his home. Carol
Connelly is a waitress who suffers from anxiety, due to her son having an extreme case of asthma
causing him to have constant medical attention. These random characters lives intersect in such
a way, that in the end they become their greatest support network. Marvin Udall displays typical
behaviors that many functioning obsessive compulsives have in common. Mr. Udall has
obsessions which are, persistent thoughts, urges that are experienced as intrusive and unwanted,
whereas compulsions are repetitive behaviors or mental acts that an individual feels driven to
perform in response to an obsession (American Psychiatric Association., 2013). Very early in the
film we see Mr. Udall struggles with contamination related obsessions and participates in
ritualistic activities which serve to lessen his obsessional anxiety. We see him engage in hand
washing rituals with extremely hot water and several bars of soap which is only intrusive to
him, to later in the film where he must take a shower before dinner and has the character Carol
waiting on him for what seemed like hours. Mr. Udall has a ritual to eat at a certain restaurant
everyday for breakfast, where he also must bring his own plastic silverware for fear of germs.
Mr. Udall shows his compulsive traits by feeling the need to lock his apartment door three times,
turns the lights on and off five times and cannot step on cracks or lines in the flooring or street.
These repetitive behaviors are normally not intrusive to others, but Mr. Udall does involve others
in his compulsion when he is trying not to step on the cracks in the sidewalk. We do not know the
exact rationale behind his compulsions, but many people fear that something bad will happen if
they do not engage in their compulsion.
What is interesting about Mr. Udall is how he did not perceive his quality of life to be

Reflection Paper On Teaching A Lesson
I prepared for these lessons first by thinking carefully over how I was going to teach a specific
concept and what I was going to need. I did this several days before I actually began teaching the
concepts. Each day I found the items I would need for that day s lesson and had it in an easily
accessible place. Since this was my first week teaching I did not have previous experience to go
off of from this class. However, I did have an understanding that preparation is key because of
previous experiences giving instruction and not being prepared by thinking out exactly how I
would go about teaching the lesson.
Depending on the day I had different sets. On Monday, I created a picture graph for the students to
work with about the student s favorite sport. I believe this was an effective set because it got the
students moving and excited about sharing while learning something new. On Tuesday, I did not
really have a set. Because it was a test day I jumped right into reviewing what was learned
through the last few lessons. On Wednesday, I almost had a set, but since it was not using
interactive material, it failed to grab the attention as much as I had wanted. On Thursday, I used a
story for my set and felt that because I was having the students interact with the book by giving
answers, it captured their attention and interest. On Friday, I had the students talk about their
favorite animals. This was a good beginning to a set but after the fact, I felt as if I should have

Love, And Platotic Aspects Of Love By William Shakespeare
During the English Renaissance, there was a bloom of literature, fueled by the advent of the
printing press and the patronage of the nobility. Beginning with Petrarch s popularization of the
Italian form, the sonnet became the English mainstay for portrayals of love. The progression of the
Renaissance saw the experience of lovedetailed in many different ways through form, allegory,
allusion, and metaphor. The fashioning of the love object in sonnets varies from writer to
writer and progresses from an outward, ethereal love to an inward love, rooted in reality as the
centuries progressed. Petrarchan love objects are larger than life holy in nature, whilst anti
Petrarchan loves are human and flawed. Poets of this time grappled with the Platonic
conventions of love: What does love mean on the grand scale? What constitutes the ideal
experience? Is love a reflection of the holy, or is it a reflection of our most base human qualities?
Each poet crafted their image of the love object in varying ways: Francesco Petrarch wrote an
idol, Edmund Spenser wrote a genuine, yet ideal woman, William Shakespeare catered to harsh
realism, and Lady Mary Wroth wrote of a stormy, imperfect lover.
Petrarch is the father of the sonnet and his fashioning of Laura in his vast sonnet cycle set the first
bar for portrayals of the beloved in English Renaissance literature. As a member of the clergy and a
stringent adherent to the church, Petrarch found his principles and devotion shaken when he beheld

Illusion of Love in Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream
The play A Midsummer Night s Dream is centered around themes that are seemingly apparent and
clear: those of true love, false love, love s blindness and the inconstancy of love. However, this
pattern of the themes of love dissipate to reveal that these themes are only apparent to the reader
who wants them to exist. We want Lysander and Hermiato be in love; we want Demetrius to love
Helena as she loves him, but the question arises as to whether these lovers are actually in love. Is
Shakespeare providing us with a wholesome tale of true love or is he conveying something more
raw, more provocative than that? When taking a closer look at this play, one sees a recurring pattern

Appearance seems to be the basis of feeling for the entire play.
The title of the play itself indicates sexual connotation. The word midsummer indicates that the play
takes place during the summer equinox which was often celebrated and closely related to May
day. There are several references to May in the play, alluding to the celebration. In medieval
times, May day was a festival of spring, celebrating courtship and fertility, prohibited in 1644
because mating and merriment got too out of control (Benet). During the festival, escape with a
lover into the woods was not scorned as it normally would be, and sexual frivolity becomes
common place. Also, May day was centered around a large, phallic structure, the maypole, around
which the people would dance, holding onto ribbons attached to the pole (Benet). The play, being
set on a day when sexuality and courtship was favourable, lends itself to the theme of sexual love
and infatuation, rather than true or romantic love.
The physical setting of the play also has strong sexual implications. The play begins in Athens, a
city where societal barriers and codes regulate the behaviour of the characters. The play soon
moves from this stoic setting into one that is more mysterious the woods. This is the place where
the fairies and mythical creatures live. It is the domain of fantasy and illusion. With the change of
setting

The History of Computers and the Internet
With the invention of the internet in the late 1960 s and early 1970 s, no one had a clue what it
would one day develop into. When computers started becoming an everyday household appliance
and the internet became more widespread, social networking sites (SNS) were developed as a
means of communicating with people across the world. Friendster was launched in 2002, and
grew rapidly over the course of three months as people started connecting and networking over
the internet instead of in person. Myspace came out in 2003 as a competitor to Friendster,
however Friendster later crumbled due to the increase in the production of new SNS. Xanga,
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn all followed shortly after, making SNS incredibly
popular, with more than half of the world s adults using these sites. A social networking site is
described as a service that connects people from different areas and builds relations with them
based off similar careers, interests, beliefs, etc. These social networking sites (SNS) have
become incredibly popular for due to its ability to connect people worldwide. Older individuals
use it for reuniting with old family and friends that they haven t seen in years, but SNS popularity
lies primarily with young adults. These young adults, especially college students, use SNS as a
means of communicating with people, both new and old, and use it for a variety of reasons.
However, the big question we asked pertains not only to these SNS and its use, but

  • 2. Taking a Look at Medieval Tournaments In the 17th century, medieval tournaments became unpopular because of the invention of guns and crossbows. Tournaments are usually competitions in a sport and the winner is rewarded with a prize. There were many types of tournaments that knights could compete and or participate in during the Middle Ages. In tournaments, you could gain prizes, reputation, and respect. There were many things that could change the outcome of tournaments depending on what type of lances you used or the armor. The tournaments served as a symbol for lives of knights in the Middle Ages. This is shown in these three ways: chivalry, their daily life, and types of battles they participated in. Chivalry was the code that knights practiced daily. This code knights lived by, consisted of religious, moral, and social protocols. The religious protocol is exemplified by always keeping faith in themselves and their peers. Another way that religion was exemplified by their code, was to worship God and keep his church in check, and to not sin. They were also required to always hold forth the truth. Some ways that exemplified their morality, were by living for fame and glory. Knights had the obligation to be social, to respect their elders and to take orders from those who had more power than they did as a knight. The knight would take on the challenges of bravely fighting to defend their lords. There were many things made at tournaments, one of which was respect and reputation. Being respected as a ... • 3. Hair Blonde Stereotypes Better Than a Blonde? Do you think brunettes and redheads are superior? Well, think again. For years, blondes have been associated with words such as dumb , needy , promiscuous and other unflattering adjectives. Even with these unfortunate stereotypes, research proves that blondes may be the exact opposite. Those with blonde hair are smarter, wealthier, and are genetically predispositioned to have attractive qualities. Blondes have been proven to be the most intelligent when compared to other hair shades. In a study conducted by the Ohio State University where 10,878 females were surveyed, blonde women enjoyed an average IQ of 103.2. Those with brown hair mustered a mere 102.7. Redheads managed 101.2. And what s with black haired women? Theirs was an average IQ of 100.5 (Matyszezyk 2016). Blondes typically have a stigmatism associated with them, such as being dumb and having little common sense. This stereotype often appears in the media, with numerous movies focused around blonde women with little intelligence. While this doesn t automatically equate directly to genetics, it can mean that blonde women are better set up for success. Research by the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth shows that people with naturally blondhair were found to have typically grown up in environments with more reading materials available to them, allowing for more intellectual stimulation during their early growth period than people with other hair colors had (Ricevuto 2016). ... • 4. Ethics Of Embryos Embryo gene modification is a very controversial topic. Some people believe that it could potentially provide a valuable way to decrease the chances of genetic diseases at birth, whereas others think that it could lead to unethical uses such as designer babies . In this essay, I will expand on the arguments put forward by different people concerning their views on genetic manipulation, and I will also attempt to put into brief the broad topic of geneediting and artificial fertilisation. The UK HumanFertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) has recently made a decision to give scientists in London permission to genetically edit spare human embryos from women who have undergone IVF. The scientists want to make some genes in leftover... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is why I created an online survey and sent it to all of my friends here at Marlborough College, to see what people generally thought about genetic manipulation. The first question I asked was very simple, it was: Were you aware that the manipulation of genes from IVF embryos has been allowed in the UK? I got two clear answers 60% no; 40% yes. This worried me, because not many people seemed to be aware of the massive decision that had taken place, which could very well affect them in the future. The next question I asked got much more variety of answers than the last one. I asked: Do you think that gene manipulation could potentially be considered immoral? These are the responses I ... • 5. Poetry Analysis – Whoso List to Hunt Poetry Analysis Whoso List To Hunt Whoso List To Hunt is a Petrarchan sonnet by Thomas Wyatt, which is known as an Italian sonnet, consisting of an octave and a sestet. This sonnet revolves around the themes of unrequited love, sexism, complexity, obsession and passion. Wyatt uses a collection of poetic techniques within the sonnet in order to display the power and desire the man has for the woman. The structure of this sonnet corresponds to a Petrarchan sonnet. This is identified by the rhyming scheme abba abba cde cde . The sonnet is constructed by an octave, which are two quatrains combined then a sestet following after that. These lines signify his obsession of possessing his prey. Another instance in which consonances are used, as she fleeth afore, Fainting I follow. I leave off therefore . In this line there is an unremitting repetition of the letter F which gives a great indication that the hunter is out of breath and exhausted. When she flees, it quotes, fainting I follow . He can only barely catch up to the wind that follows behind her, so he realises here that the chase is futile. He apprehends the fact that the deer is not welcoming his affection, which refers back to the theme of unrequited love . Wyatt in addition introduces a second metaphor , wind in which he uses to describe the woman. The wind symbolises agility, freedom and is impossible to capture. The first octave makes out that this was all a wasted hunt, and that the poet is officially unsuccessful. In the closing sestet, the hunter addresses the other suitors who are determined to capture her that they have absolutely no chance and warns them that they ll suffer deep consequences if ... Marxist Analysis On Class Conflict In Lord Of The Flies A Marxist Analysis on Class Conflict in Lord of the Flies The Ideology of Golding refers to the Cold War conflict between the Open minded Democracy in his presentation of Ralph whereas Jack is the authoritarian communism. Based on Dobie, Ann Brewster s Wadsworth Cengage Learning, 2008 we know that Marxists do not see any literary works as an appealing article but as products of the socioeconomic aspects. Similarly Lord of the Flies authenticates a Marxist principle explained by the Class Conflict in the boys attempts of civilization and decentralization. The person may not perform well or even learn anything from college. A person can be successful with or without a college degree. College is known by many as a rite of passage (Addison 256). The misconception is that people believe that you have to receive a four year education in order to be successful in life. As the British Empiresoon became the largest empire in history, this era was later known as the Victorian Era (John 129). To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the world, Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first world s fair, namely, The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations , at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, from May 1 to October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods displayed at the exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and Owen Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of visitors around the world during 1851 (Fig. 1). We will explore how much the characters in the story would make per year, try to determine their cost of living and look at how the depressed southern economyplays a role on the rone of these stories. Economicsand a time of depression had to play a big part in why Singleton chose to write these stories the way he did so by going over the short stories Fossils and Bank of America we will get a better understanding of how big the economic impact really was. Fossils by George Singleton tells the story of a young boy named Compton and his father during the 1970 s. Compton was attending a school that was going through the racial integration process. Compton s father was anti racismand was trying to prevent a racist man in town, Mr. Dorne from keeping the news of the outside world from the people of the town. Compton says, So my father maybe the only man in town in favor of integration responded in the only way he knew how. He awoke me at midnight. (Singleton, 20) Takes his son on a journey to fight racism in their small town attacking Mr. Dorne who is a part of the KKK. Compton says, I tiptoed to what used to be a guest bedroom, where he now slept, and of course didn t find him there (Singleton 34). Although it never says exactly what his father s profession is in the story it does make several mentions to him tearing down buildings so maybe he works construction but it would seem that his profession allows him to own a three bedroom home, afford to take care of his son Compton and own a car all on his own. Based on the research and the assumption that Compton s father was middle class he probably made around ten thousand per year. Bank of America by George Singleton is about 4 childhood friends, who at the time of the story are all grown up and coming back to their childhood treehouse to drink, hunt, fish and talk about their lives past and present. The main characters have a vast employment span between them, Russel the carpenter, Dean the banker, Evan the English professor and me, (Singleton, 139) Some of the ... The reversal operates to clarify under what circumstances employers must make reasonable accommodations to disabled employees within the meaning of the ADA. Complaints under the ADA in relation to disability are one of the top complaints against employers, totaling over 25,000 complaints in 2014 alone. • 13. Laocoon s Influence on Renaissance Artists The Renaissance was indeed a proud moment in history. It was a time of the revitalization of antiquity, breakthrough scientific discoveries, and profound, inspirational artwork. The desire and urge to establish stronger connections with the classical past brought about the search and discovery of many ancient manuscripts and artworks. One of the most celebrated discoveries occurred during the height of the Renaissance: The Laocoon. Perhaps one of the world s most famous Hellenistic sculptures, it was originally located in the palace of Titus. It was then lost for over a thousand years before its rediscovery in 1506. Pope Julius IIimmediately acquired it, and displayed it in the Vatican Museums. The renowned discovery of one of the few... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Trojans accepted the gift, and at night, the Greeks slipped out of the horse and opened the city, which led to the fall of Troy. Laocoon was a high priest of Troy who warned against accepting the wooden horse. Frustrated that the Trojans were ignoring his warnings, Laocoon threw a spear at the giant wooden horse, and spurned the rage of Poseidon (who, along with the other Gods favored the Greeks) to send giant sea serpents to strangle him. One of the major significances of the Laocoon Group was the timing and effect of its celebrated discovery. Prior to its discovery, the only known records of its existence were from ancient manuscripts and records by Pliny the Elder. Buried underground for over a millennium, the Laocoon Group emerged once again after its discovery near the baths of Titus in 1506. This was during the height of the Renaissance, an era of the revitalization of the classics. Due to the strong desire to possess the great works of antiquity, its discovery was an immediate success. Discovering the Laocoon was like discovering the Titantic; an ancient treasure finally revealed after endless years of searching. • 14. Character Analysis Of The Movie Full Metal Jacket Leonard Lawrence, who is a major character in the movie Full Metal Jacket also known as Private Gomer Pyle, is an overweight, slow minded recruit who becomes the focus of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman s attention. In the course of the movie, Leonard undergoes a development and a significant mental change. The character was discriminated and humiliated by Sergeant Hartman because of his enervate personality at the boot camp. Leonard s portrayal changes when his fellow recruits mistreat him, which made Leonard become dark and psychopathic throughout the movie. Through Private Pyle s character, Stanley Kubrick showed that regardless of who you are and what you can do, war will wipe all that away, leaving the darkness and a killer in you. Kubrick introduced Private Pyle in the opening scene of the movie, where a group of recruits gets an introduction to the boot camp from Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, a foul mouthed drill instructor who bullies, and discriminates his recruits with harsh words. When it was Leonard s turn to be introduced, Sergeant Hartman insulted him more than he did to his other recruits for being fat and making an obnoxious grin. The name Gomer Pyle is an insulting name for a Marine who is prone to screwing up, which is why Stanley Kubrick, the director named Leonard as Gomer Pyle. Pyle s vulnerability was very visible from his profile and physical appearance, thus his grinning at Sergeant Hartman supported that Pyle is dim witted and this made him earn the ... For me, the idea of love can be presented is such a basic way it becomes obvious to what will happen next. Essentially, I get bored with the same old generic portrayal on what love should look like or be. Spike Jonze s Her and Arthur Hiller s LoveStory was such a refreshing take on how love can come in all forms and doesn t need to follow a sort of guideline, like every other love filmseems to be. It was interesting to view the contrast in the two films. The end of the film showing the two lovers in the hospital without a doubt brought out the most of Oliver s emotions. He began crying to Jenny, blaming himself, and wishing that she wasn t on her death bed. As heartbroken as he was, he had to remain strong and comfort her in the last moments of her life. Interestly enough, I found the ending of Her to be very similar to Love Story. Even though Samantha doesn t necessarily die, she has no choice but to go, leaving Theodore devastated. Twain s Huckleberry Finn and Kerouac s On the Road The River and the Road One element that separates a good novel from a great novel is its enduring effects on society. A great novel transcends time; it changes and mirrors the consciousness of a civilization. One such novel is Mark Twain s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. For the past one hundred and fifteen years, it has remained in print and has been one of the most widely studied texts in high schools and colleges. Warren French states in his biography of Kerouac that Kerouac s first attempt to write a novel at age 11 was an apparently quite slavish imitation of [Twain s] Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (4), and Gerald Nicosia notes that Twain was one of the writers that Kerouac followed in his use of idiomatic American diction (344). In addition, Kerouac himself warns his editor Helen Taylor in a letter, no more irresponsible copy editing of my Mark Twain Huckleberry prose (131). He imitated the naГЇve prose of Twain that only observes life and does not judge it, thereby creating an honest reflection of life that ultimately affects the moral sensibilities of its audience. One human aspect of life that is mirrored in the two narratives is the familial relationship between each novel s two main characters. Huck would be as incomplete without Jim, as Sal would be without Dean. Every place that Huck lives with Jim is his home. When they return to the island after finding a corpse housebound and drifting, Huck explains, We got home all safe (Twain 72), and after the fog separates them, he conveys, We said there warn t no home like a raft, after all (124). • 17. The Native American Spirit Quest Of A Half Indian Foster... Sherman Alexie s novel Flight explores the Native American spirit quest of a half Indian foster child. Alexie brilliantly invites readers into the mind of a cynical fifteen year old who calls himself Zits. Zits uses humor, violence, and shock value to cope with how he has been treated by his absent father and the foster system. Zits uses his vocabulary as a defense mechanism which reveals how comfortable he feels in various situations. The following paragraphs analyze how Zits speech patterns provide insight to how he feels about certain characters and situations. Zits uses a distinctive naming system when he is unaware of a character s real name. Zits method of naming characters reveals how comfortable he is talking about them. He bases most of his names on appearance. For instance, Zits sees a young Indian boy while he is in the body of Gus and he observes that the Indian can t be more than five years old and he holds a bow (pg. 59). Zits then refers to this character as Bow Boy for the remainder of the book (pg. 59). Zits uses this method for naming almost every character he meets. Characters that he likes are given names such as Small Saint while characters he feels anger toward often remain unnamed (pg. 61). For example, Zits mother, father and grandfather are never mentioned by name. Zits method of naming also reveals how he feels about himself. Overcoming the Barriers At a glance, the research may seem to paint a bleak picture, but there is reason for optimism. Firstly, not all socially anxious individuals have difficulties in their romantic relationships. Secondly, the better that relationship scientists and clinical psychologists understand these phenomena, the clearer the solutions can become; indeed, some are already becoming visible for those who experience difficulty. A big part of the way social anxietyaffects the quality of relationships appears to be related to trust and support. This gives us a good place to start when we re trying to improve our relationships (Simpson, 2007). The low levels of trust of socially anxious individuals are linked to the symptoms and cognitive effects of the disorder itself: Other people are often viewed as overly critical or even hostile, regardless of any evidence. How much we can trust others depends on how much we can view them as having our best interests at heart (Simpson, etc., 2007). To combat this and view a romantic partner as trustworthy, couples need to work together. The way social anxiety affects perceived support is somewhat complex. Socially anxious people seem to have trouble noticing the support their romantic partners provide. This comes back to the fact that social anxiety makes it very difficult to view others as benevolent or as having good intentions (Simpson, 2007). It creates a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within this article, you will find all the problems that happen because of underage drinking. The CDC ( Center for Disease Control) did a study on underage drinking it states. That Alcohol is the most commonly used and abused drug among youth in the United States . Also, the legal drinking age is 21 and people 12 to 20 are 11% consumers of alcohol. Then before this study in 2010 drinking took 4,300 lives of youth each year. It s a proven fact that most underage drinkers consume more drinks then adult drinkers. In 2010 189,000 emergency room visits were for underage drinkers or condition dealing with underage drinkers. Then another study in 2015 had a survey that was given to high schoolstudents showed 33% of students drank 18% binge drink 8% drove after drinking 20% rode with a driver who had drunk. Using 802.11 Wireless Local Area Network COMPUTER NETWORKS RESEARCH PAPER PHASE 1 By, Venkata Kannepalli 2628541 Durga Chetan Kumar 2627862 Susheel Sarab 2660333 ABSTRACT 802.11 wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) becomes most important these days. Whether it would be simple range extender for a home wired Ethernet interface, or as a wireless interface, WLAN provides mobility, ease of access and affordable. Most of the 802.11 wireless network uses the frequency of 2.4GHz, which leads the network to be unsafe and more vulnerable than traditional Ethernet networks. In general, security issues for the Network layer has been discussed rapidly, but where as for MAC layer security mechanisms has not been extensively discussed. Wireless network security has gained attention due to the vulnerabilities exposed in the open communication platform. Most prevalent wireless Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is IEEE 802.11, which considers all the nodes in the network are safe cooperative. However, attackers may make nodes misbehave in order to disrupt network performance, obtain extra bandwidth and consume resources. These MAC layer misbehaviors can be called as Denial of Service (DoS) attacks which can disrupt the network operation. Influencing security flaws in the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol even an average person with basic knowledge on wireless networks can launch MAC layer denial of service (DOS) attacks. In this paper we study two types of MAC layer Denial Of Service attacks that can be easily operated by an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Development Of A Simulation Management System Summary The main contribution of the proposed research is the development of a Simulation Management System. Simulation models are vital to modern scientific research. These models tend to be extremely complex, often with many sources of uncertainties and numerous factors. To understand the impact of these factors and their interactions, on the simulation model results, requires effective design of experiments. DoE allows construction of well defined procedures for ordering experiment outcomes and offers a framework that can be used to replicate and validate those outcomes. In this study, we propose an approach that integrates concepts of model driven engineering, intelligent agent technology, and variability modeling to support the management of the lifecycle of a simulation experiment. The Model Driven Engineering (MDE) methodology provides a framework and strategy to move from the platform independent experiment domain space to the technical space involving platform specific executable simulation experiment scripts. Experiment design modeling is introduced for configurable experiment synthesis and execution. Feature oriented variability modeling is used to design a family of experiments by allowing explicit specification of variability in the configuration of experiments Adaptation is needed for continuous management of stochastic simulation experiments. In simulation lifecycle management systems, adaptation is proposed for dynamic experiment model updating. Our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Examples Of Psychoanalysis In Alien C. Psychoanalysis as a political weapon in Alien i. Male action and female inaction There are two major examples of male activeness and female passiveness in Alien: the chestburster scene and the differences between Ripley and Dallas as the protagonist. In the iconic chestburster scene the crew are seated peacefully as they prepare to return to stasis, however this peace is disturbed when Kane convulses and a chestburster bursts out of him. Only the male characters are active in this scene: Parker and Dallas initially comfort and hold Kane down, Brett holds Kane s legs down, and Ash runs from the other side (farther aways then Ripley and Lambert) to help. Ripley and Lambert initially reach out towards Kane but eventually watch in horror as the alien bursts from him. Dallas, Parker, and Brett were closer to Kane than Ripley so they have more reason for helping; and Ash is the science officer so it makes sense for him to rush towards a medical emergency. Switching one of the male characters with a female character could have expounded on the seriousness of the scene (before the arrival of the chestburster). While subtle, the difference between the actions taken by Dallas and Ripley exemplify the heterosexual differences in labor. The City of Lakeland, incorporated on January 1, 1885, is a local municipal government agency whose primary function is to provide services to the citizens within the corporate city limits as well as water and electric to customers in unincorporated Polk County and the vast number of visitors to the city. The departments within the City of Lakeland currently provide over 180 services. And, to fulfill its responsibilities, Lakeland employs 2,172 full time and 552 part time employees. • 42. Essay On The Berlin Wall On November 9, 1989; an event occurred that changed the county as a whole; the Berlin Wall fell. This significant event represented the end of communism in Germany. The German Democratic Republic (GDR) reunited with the Federal Republic of Germany on October 3, 1990; one year after the Wall fell. When the Berlin Wall fell, both East and West Berlinbecame physically reunified. There was no longer a wall standing in between the two sides and from here on out, two cities became one once again. This was a physically reconnection of two sides of East and West Berlin and the beginning of the loss of identity for those had previously lived in East Berlin(Leventhal). Kubicek believes that due to many years that East and West Germany were divided that the people of each side developed differently and had different values. Each side had created it s own educational system, government and political and views. Kubicek quoted one writer, It will take us longer to tear down the wall in our heads.... (17). This also applied to those living in East and West Berlin. East Berliners also viewed those living in West Berlin as boastful, aggressive and insensitive (Leventhal). They felt unwelcomed and the other half of the city felt very different to them. West Berliners viewed their side of the city as being less safe and now too crowded and those from East Berlin were known as the poorer people. City services were duplicated and in the East side were either closed or lost. Examples ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Acidity is manifested by several uncomfortable symptoms such as burning and pain in the chest and stomach; nausea; bitter taste in mouth; vomiting and discomfort in the stomach. Acidity, been one of the commonest digestive complaints. At some point in our lives, we have all suffered from these symptoms. Obesity, pregnancy and other medical conditions may also give rise to acidity. Irrespective of the reason, acidity can prove to be an uncomfortable experience. There are several natural remedies that work wonders in keeping acidity at bay and also in providing relief from acidity. Though, chronic acidity complaints may require proper medications. Some of natural remedies are as follows: Bananas They prove to be an effective antidote for acidity, as it has a high pH value. More the pH value, lesser are the symptoms of acidity. Banana further, enhances the production of mucous by the stomach lining which reduces the harmful effects of acidity. The high fibre content of banana decreases the recurrence of acidity. Apart from banana, watermelon and cucumbers too are effective against acidity. Consumption of overripe bananas during an attack of acidity is even more beneficial. Cold ... • 44. Camelot Analysis This story is set in Camelot 528 A.D. beginning on nineteenth of June (17). The setting is important because the way of speech was much different then. That would make a big difference for a man from Connecticut from 1879. Also in this time period there were thatch roofed houses and stone houses. Also people dressed much differently. This story is in limited first person. This is important because it only shows the story from the Connecticut man s point of view. This way you only know his thoughts, not the thoughts of others. This point of view also gives a more personal feel to the story as you are walking in this man s shoes as to say. I seemed to believe the boy, I didn t know why. (17). • 45. Actors in the Humanitarian Community It has always been said that the things that are unlikely to happen does actually happen during an emergency or in a crisis situation. If one accept that it is by fate a crisis happens and do not have any precautionary measures, then the crisis management is doomed to fail. This holds true when dealing with humanitarian aids after a disaster, whether man made or of natural cause. It is then of utmost importance that all the actors in the humanitarian community knows their roles and get their acts together harmoniously. Figure 1 shows the link between these different actors and how they work together (GHA Report, 2011). Who are then these actors within the humanitarian community? Actors in the Humanitarian Community Government A government s role within the humanitarian community can be classified into two categories. A country may take the role of a recipient or a donor (GHA, 2014). A government s response is crucial particularly for a recipient government. Though it is important for individual citizen have their personal contingency plans, but majority of the problems that arise from a disaster are beyond the individual s capability to solve. • 46. Math Knot Theory and Celtic Knots l Ve always had an interest in Celtic culture. I love the traditional clothing and dancing, but my favorite part has always been the symbolism and beauty of Celtic Knots. I wondered where the knots originated and how they were created so symmetrically, which led me to the mathematical study of knot theory. So my question now is, How has the knot theoryin mathematics influenced and shaped the tradition of Celtic Knots? Knots in the real world are easy to define and see, such as tying a shoelace or a rope, but knots in the mathematical world are a bit different. These knots are joined at the end, making them one continuous line, unable to be pulled apart or untied. They can be described in mathematical terms as a circle that has been embedded in 3 D dimensional Euclidean space but in a bit simpler language, a knotis created by putting a flat circle into 3 D space; therefore making it 3 D. You can not just pull the circle up; that would create a cylinder, and you can not just round it out; this would create a sphere. You must twist it until it intertwines, thus creating a knot. Knots can be described in many different ways. For example; a common method of describing a knot is called a knot diagram, which can be used to describe the many ways a knot can be drawn. A fundamental problem is presented here though, due to the fact that you must determine when a knot is represented by more than one description. A full algorithmic solution does exist to help solve the problem, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Analysis Of As Good As It Gets The film As Good As It Gets, reflects on the psychopathologies of three main characters. Marvin Udall is an obsessive compulsive writer who maintains poor boundaries with those who encounter him. Simon Bishop is a homosexual artist who struggles with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) about his estranged relationship with his parents and following an attack in his home. Carol Connelly is a waitress who suffers from anxiety, due to her son having an extreme case of asthma causing him to have constant medical attention. These random characters lives intersect in such a way, that in the end they become their greatest support network. Marvin Udall displays typical behaviors that many functioning obsessive compulsives have in common. Mr. Udall has obsessions which are, persistent thoughts, urges that are experienced as intrusive and unwanted, whereas compulsions are repetitive behaviors or mental acts that an individual feels driven to perform in response to an obsession (American Psychiatric Association., 2013). Very early in the film we see Mr. Udall struggles with contamination related obsessions and participates in ritualistic activities which serve to lessen his obsessional anxiety. We see him engage in hand washing rituals with extremely hot water and several bars of soap which is only intrusive to him, to later in the film where he must take a shower before dinner and has the character Carol waiting on him for what seemed like hours. Mr. Udall has a ritual to eat at a certain restaurant everyday for breakfast, where he also must bring his own plastic silverware for fear of germs. Mr. Udall shows his compulsive traits by feeling the need to lock his apartment door three times, turns the lights on and off five times and cannot step on cracks or lines in the flooring or street. These repetitive behaviors are normally not intrusive to others, but Mr. Udall does involve others in his compulsion when he is trying not to step on the cracks in the sidewalk. We do not know the exact rationale behind his compulsions, but many people fear that something bad will happen if they do not engage in their compulsion. What is interesting about Mr. Udall is how he did not perceive his quality of life to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Reflection Paper On Teaching A Lesson I prepared for these lessons first by thinking carefully over how I was going to teach a specific concept and what I was going to need. I did this several days before I actually began teaching the concepts. Each day I found the items I would need for that day s lesson and had it in an easily accessible place. Since this was my first week teaching I did not have previous experience to go off of from this class. However, I did have an understanding that preparation is key because of previous experiences giving instruction and not being prepared by thinking out exactly how I would go about teaching the lesson. Depending on the day I had different sets. On Monday, I created a picture graph for the students to work with about the student s favorite sport. I believe this was an effective set because it got the students moving and excited about sharing while learning something new. On Tuesday, I did not really have a set. Because it was a test day I jumped right into reviewing what was learned through the last few lessons. On Wednesday, I almost had a set, but since it was not using interactive material, it failed to grab the attention as much as I had wanted. On Thursday, I used a story for my set and felt that because I was having the students interact with the book by giving answers, it captured their attention and interest. On Friday, I had the students talk about their favorite animals. This was a good beginning to a set but after the fact, I felt as if I should have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Love, And Platotic Aspects Of Love By William Shakespeare During the English Renaissance, there was a bloom of literature, fueled by the advent of the printing press and the patronage of the nobility. Beginning with Petrarch s popularization of the Italian form, the sonnet became the English mainstay for portrayals of love. The progression of the Renaissance saw the experience of lovedetailed in many different ways through form, allegory, allusion, and metaphor. The fashioning of the love object in sonnets varies from writer to writer and progresses from an outward, ethereal love to an inward love, rooted in reality as the centuries progressed. Petrarchan love objects are larger than life holy in nature, whilst anti Petrarchan loves are human and flawed. Poets of this time grappled with the Platonic conventions of love: What does love mean on the grand scale? What constitutes the ideal experience? Is love a reflection of the holy, or is it a reflection of our most base human qualities? Each poet crafted their image of the love object in varying ways: Francesco Petrarch wrote an idol, Edmund Spenser wrote a genuine, yet ideal woman, William Shakespeare catered to harsh realism, and Lady Mary Wroth wrote of a stormy, imperfect lover. Petrarch is the father of the sonnet and his fashioning of Laura in his vast sonnet cycle set the first bar for portrayals of the beloved in English Renaissance literature. As a member of the clergy and a stringent adherent to the church, Petrarch found his principles and devotion shaken when he beheld ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Illusion of Love in Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s... Illusion of Love in Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream The play A Midsummer Night s Dream is centered around themes that are seemingly apparent and clear: those of true love, false love, love s blindness and the inconstancy of love. However, this pattern of the themes of love dissipate to reveal that these themes are only apparent to the reader who wants them to exist. We want Lysander and Hermiato be in love; we want Demetrius to love Helena as she loves him, but the question arises as to whether these lovers are actually in love. Is Shakespeare providing us with a wholesome tale of true love or is he conveying something more raw, more provocative than that? When taking a closer look at this play, one sees a recurring pattern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Appearance seems to be the basis of feeling for the entire play. The title of the play itself indicates sexual connotation. The word midsummer indicates that the play takes place during the summer equinox which was often celebrated and closely related to May day. There are several references to May in the play, alluding to the celebration. In medieval times, May day was a festival of spring, celebrating courtship and fertility, prohibited in 1644 because mating and merriment got too out of control (Benet). During the festival, escape with a lover into the woods was not scorned as it normally would be, and sexual frivolity becomes common place. Also, May day was centered around a large, phallic structure, the maypole, around which the people would dance, holding onto ribbons attached to the pole (Benet). The play, being set on a day when sexuality and courtship was favourable, lends itself to the theme of sexual love and infatuation, rather than true or romantic love. The physical setting of the play also has strong sexual implications. The play begins in Athens, a city where societal barriers and codes regulate the behaviour of the characters. The play soon moves from this stoic setting into one that is more mysterious the woods. This is the place where the fairies and mythical creatures live. It is the domain of fantasy and illusion. • 51. The History of Computers and the Internet With the invention of the internet in the late 1960 s and early 1970 s, no one had a clue what it would one day develop into. When computers started becoming an everyday household appliance and the internet became more widespread, social networking sites (SNS) were developed as a means of communicating with people across the world. Friendster was launched in 2002, and grew rapidly over the course of three months as people started connecting and networking over the internet instead of in person. Myspace came out in 2003 as a competitor to Friendster, however Friendster later crumbled due to the increase in the production of new SNS. Xanga, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn all followed shortly after, making SNS incredibly popular, with more than half of the world s adults using these sites. A social networking site is described as a service that connects people from different areas and builds relations with them based off similar careers, interests, beliefs, etc. These social networking sites (SNS) have become incredibly popular for due to its ability to connect people worldwide. Older individuals use it for reuniting with old family and friends that they haven t seen in years, but SNS popularity lies primarily with young adults. These young adults, especially college students, use SNS as a means of communicating with people, both new and old, and use it for a variety of reasons. However, the big question we asked pertains not only to these SNS and its use, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
