Traditional Bridal Dowry Box as a Social Evil in Indian...
A satirical website created in 2011 calculates the amount of dowry women need in order to marry the
men of their choice. The website mocks India s social evil, and it exposes some of the unhealthy
factors families consider in order to arrive to dowry rate. Some of the factors are caste, education of
the groom and even skin color. In India the custom of dowry is a very old tradition that originated in
the 13th or 14th century, when women were not given any share from paternal wealth and when
women were regarded as the property of either their fathers or their husbands. At that time, dowry was
giving women some pre mortem inheritance and some economic security. Traditionally it was a
Stridhanam daughter s wedding settlement, but in 20th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The passages suggest Roy s critique of the institution of dowry. Thus the excerpts bring value to the
whole book itself and help Roy pursue her goal of criticizing the Indian society through literature and
show how outdated the concept of a dowry is. These passages have also an importance because they
challenge the society in a way that dowry, a widely used tradition by the people, is depicted as old
fashioned. Arundhati Roy depicts dowry as old fashioned when she describes the hotel Heritage.
Author says: The furniture and knickknacks that came with the house were on display. A reed
umbrella, a wicker couch. A wooden dowry box. They were labeled with edifying placards that said
Traditional Kerala Umbrella and Traditional Bridal Dowry box. (Roy 120) It is interesting how the
dowry box is on the display as in the museum in order to show well known but old Indian tradition to
the tourists and guests. Roy s description of dowry in these three different situations lets the reader
understand how Roy tries to progress dowry from being used in Ammu s situation, to not being
important as in Rahel s situation and later being an antique in the hotel.
Arundhati Roy uses different writing techniques in order to emphasize her criticism of the system and
voice her opinions as a political activist. There is no doubt that Roy cleverly uses diction and flow in
order to more clearly depict to the reader her vision of dowry as an old fashioned concept , as

Carpetbaggers
Carpetbaggers were northerners who headed to the southern states during and immediately after the
Civil War, propelled by wanting to work on behalf of liberated slaves, a desire for economic gain, or a
mix of both. Carpetbaggers got their name because many of them had large bags made from carpets to
hold their belongings. Although many in the South saw carpetbaggers as people who wanted to exploit
and profit from the south s misfortunes, Carpetbaggers would play an important role in shaping the
south s government during Reconstruction. African Americans in the south who had just been
emancipated were restricted their freedom when southern legislatures passed black codes , which
forced them into repressive labor situations. The Black Codes were laws designed with the intention to
guarantee African American s availability as a cheap labor force after slavery was eliminated during
the Civil War, and to keep white supremacy in place. Common examples of Black Codes were: Race
was defined by blood; the presence of any amount of black blood made one black, Employment was
required of all freedmen; violators faced vagrancy charges, Freedmen could not assemble without the
presence of a white person, Freedmen were assumed to be agricultural workers and their duties and

Adult freedmen were forced to sign contracts with their employers, who were often their past owners.
These contracts kept African Americans from working for multiple employers, and therefore from

orphans to white plantation owners who would force them to

Illegal Immigration
Illegal Immigration
Illegal immigration has stirred up quite a heated and lengthy debate regarding the laws pertaining to
immigration. Prior to having an opinion about illegal immigration, one must first understand
immigration, as a whole. An immigrant is defined as, an individual authorized to remain in the United
States indefinitely, and who is a lawful permanent resident (LPR), popularly known as a green card
holder. (Mehta). There are different types of immigrants who enter into the United States legally such
as, persons working in the US with an employment visa, refugees and family based immigrants are
essentially sponsored by a family member who is an LPR, to gain permanent residence in the US. The
process for legal immigration is typically time consuming and sometimes it can be a difficult process
for people wishing to enter the US. Because of this lengthy process there has been an increase in the
numbers associated with illegal immigration. Despite the argument surrounding illegal immigration,
immigration laws should be changed for a number of reasons.
What is the origin and history of immigration laws in this country?
When people think of the laws pertaining to immigration and the history of immigration in the United
States many individuals think of the most recent immigration laws such as the Homeland Security Act,
enforced in 2002 and the Secure Fence Act enacted in 2006. While these acts and the more recent
legislation regarding immigration are

Personal Responsibility and College Success
Thesis Statement
Some people believe that they can keep their same routines and successfully complete a college
degree. Students must analyze and adjust their personal responsibilities to be successful while
attending college.
College success depends on the ability to balance personal responsibilities and academic requirements.
Some students do not change current routines while attending college. A student must change routines
in daily life to be successful in college. Personal responsibility is the responsibilities and obligations
people have to themselves and others. Personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students must manage family and work responsibilities to succeed in an academic environment.
Student will not be successful if a harmonious family life is not maintained. Employment can
significantly reduce grades if not properly balanced. Online learning also can be challenging
according to The International Journal of Continuing Education amp; Lifelong Learning:
Reasons or factors affecting students dropping out from their distance learning studies were found in a
study carried out in 2007 08 by using group interviews and a survey questionnaire. Based on the
reasons found in focus group interviews, a questionnaire consisting of possible dropout reasons was
devised and administered to all dropout students in the two cohorts. The reasons for student dropout
found in the questionnaire study were classified into three categories. The first category of reasons is
called not addressable and is found to predominantly to include students personal reasons. The second
category is called not readily addressable. They include reasons, such as high tuition fees and heavy
amount of coursework. The third category is addressable factors, and these include failure to maintain
motivation in study, and so forth (Yuen, Lee, amp; Tsang, 2011, p. 25).
Successful students must be able to balance personal responsibilities and academic requirements.
Students must update schedules and calendars daily to keep up with life s demands.

October Sky Essay
Homer Hickam was a teenage boy from a mining town in West Virginia called Coalwood. He inspired
to build rockets when he seen the first artificial satellite, Sputnik, streak across the stars. With his
friends and the local nerd, Homer sets out to do just that but with many errors and trials. Along with
the town, Homer s father thought they were wasting their time with their rockets. He wanted Homer to
be a coal miner just like everyone else but Homer knew he didn t belong there. As time went on, some
people from town became interested in seeing the homemade missiles launch into the sky. The boys
became popular and were known as the Rocketboys around town.

rockets. Homer says he is never going to mine coal. One day after they shot off a rocket, the police
came to the school to arrest Homer and his friends for starting a forest fire. They gave up on building
rockets because all of their dreams were crushed. That night his father was hurt mining and Homer
quit school and worked in the mines to help pay the hospital bills. His dad changed his attitude about
Homer when he worked in the mines because he thought he was doing the right thing. Homer didn t
like it at all and his hopes and dreams were gone. After work one night, Homer s mom told him that
Miss Reilly was sick. When he went to visit her, she told him that he didn t belong in the mine and
that he needed to stick to his dreams. That night he opened the book she gave him and started to work
on the math and where the rocket went when the police said that it started the fire. He calculated that
he didn t start the fire.
Homer quit his job, went back to school, and won the County Science Fair. He was sent to
Indianapolis for the National Science Fair. His dad was disappointed again that Homer went back to
building rockets. He was the only one in town who didn t believe in Homer and his friends. His father

Respiratory Tract Infections ( Rtis )
Respiratory Tract Infections (RTIs)
The upper respiratory tract consists of the nose, nasal passages, paranasal sinuses, pharynx and part of
the larynx above the vocal cord (Porth, 2011). Common cold (self limiting but can lead to secondary
bacterial infections), sinusitis, otitis media, croup, epiglottis, influenza and scarlet fever are the most
common complication of URI (VanMeter Hubert, 2014). On the other hand, lower respiratory tract
consists of the trachea and the lungs (bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli (Porth, 2011). Lower
respiratory tract infection includes bronchiolitis (RSVP), pneumonia, severe acute respiratory
syndrome (SARS), tuberculosis, histoplasmosis and anthrax (VanMeter Hubert, 2014). Upper

Practitioners are inclined to prescribe antibiotic when patients clearly requested it (Llor et al., 2014).
Antibiotics are usually prescribed for non specific upper respiratory tract infection to avoid small risks
for getting worst and becoming bacterial infection. Patients with acute respiratory infection with
antibiotic treatment were not at increased risk for severe adverse effect and had a small decreased risk
of hospitalization due to pneumonia (Meropol, Localio, Metlay, 2013). Similarly, presence of risk
factors such as age 65, COPD, diabetes, heart failure, atherosclerotic heart disease, asthma, smoking,
etc. had similar prescription rate of 62% to those patients without risk factors (Grover, Mookadam,
Rutkowski, Cullan, Hill, Patchett Noble, 2012).
Pathophysiology of Common Cold
The common cold is a self limiting upper respiratory tract infection with sign and symptoms of nasal
congestion, runny nose, sore throat, sneezing, and cough. It is a viral disease that does not respond to
antibiotic (Zoorob, Sidani, Fremont Kihlberg, 2012). The common culprits that cause the infections
are rhinovirus, adenovirus, parainfluenza virus or coronavirus. This virus is usually spread through
droplets via inhalation, aerosol, and secretion on hand or direct contact with contaminated object. This
infection is highly contagious since it produces a large number of infected nasal mucosa during the
first few days and can live for many days outside of a body

Native American Misrepresentation
Native Americans; A Prolonged Misrepresentation When hearing the words, African Americans,
Hispanics, or Caucasians, the majority of people in America will generally categorize the traits of
these nationalities based upon their roles displayed in the media, books, movies, or first hand
experience. The actions being made by their associations is stereotyping; defined in the Merriam
Webster dictionary as, [believing] unfairly that all people or things with a particular characteristic are
the same, revealing that even unknowingly, people are allowing nationalities to fall under a list of

Brandon Griggs, Senior producer of CNN Digital, describes that the actors found the satirical Western

Breath and No Bra, which the actors brought attention to these slurs, but were quickly replied by

Analysis Of The Film The Scarecrow
In the Chipotle s three minute animated commercial The Scarecrow , created by Moonbot Studios,
viewers follow the perspective of a personified scarecrow character in a lively industrialized city.
Published on September 11, 2013, it has since garnered over 17 million views on YouTube. While the
scarecrow is not human, he is dressed as a farmer, employed under Crow Foods a food corporation
repairing the food factory buildings. As the audience follows the farmer, he is accompanied by a
mechanical crow, which accompanies every employee of the Crow Foods industry (The Scarecrow
0:26). Even as he works, however, he repeatedly encounters examples of city food production, where
he sees confined animals and harsh industry conditions (The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In an ironic twist, the scarecrows in the film are displaced from their normal role of protecting food,
and are instead ruled by the crows themselves through Crow Foods. The audience first sees a glimpse
of this interaction in the beginning, where there is a picture of a limp but exceptionally happy
scarecrow holding out his arms to support three crows, the ironic opposite of defending against them
as they usually would. In fact, this image is the first scene of the entire film, emphasizing the irony of
the picture itself and setting viewers up for the fact that the normal is abnormal throughout the film,
even if not readily apparent.

Nature And Evil In Grendel, By John Gardner
According to the Shaper, Grendel was the dark side...in effect. The terrible race God cursed (51). From
his very upbringing, Grendel was cursed, set apart from the rest of nature. This isolation became
evident throughout the novel as it seemed both humans and nature were against him. In the novel
Grendel by John Gardner, the theme of nature fighting what is unnatural is supported by the motifs of
animals, snakes, and trees. The prevalence of nature s clash with that which is unnatural is evident in
the reoccurring images of animals throughout the novel. Gardner emphasizes nature s resistance to
Grendel as [a bull] snorted through this nose and pawed more deeply, spattering grass and black earth
at his sharp rear hooves...I watched him loll his weight forward, sliding into an easy lope, head tilted,
coming toward me (20). Due to the idea that Grendel is secluded from both nature and humans, he can
be considered an unnatural being for he has no place in the world. Clearly, Grendel is in discord with
nature as animals, such as this bull, attack him with the intent to kill. As a result, Gardner uses the
motif of animals attacking Grendel to suggest that nature as a whole is against anything foreign.
Furthermore, later on in the novel when Grendel is near death, he takes notice to his surroundings
expressing that animals gather around me, enemies of old, to watch me die...they watch on, evil,
incredibly stupid, enjoying, my destruction (173 74). By referring to the animals as

Biography of Helen Keller
How would you feel if you were famous at a young age just for overcoming deaf and blindness?
Helen Keller was one of the few people back in her time to become really famous over something she
couldn t help. Helen was famous because of how she was able to make things better for children and
adults with disabilities, and while she did this she had no forms of communication. Helen actually
wasn t deaf and blind; she was born perfectly normal in a small town in Alabama called Tuscumbia on
June 27, 1880. Due to a sickness believed to be Scarlet Fever; Keller lost her ability to see and hear at
the age about nineteen months. In the progressing years of her life Helen became crazy and somewhat
bad. In the beginning period of Helen s talking it had been difficult because she had gotten confused;
soon enough her teacher Anne had taken her to a water pump, put her hand under it, and showed Keller
the association between the running water and the spelling of the word. Helen had went to a blind
school and that is where she met her long time teacher Anne Sullivan. In the year of 1898 Cambridge
School for Young Ladies gained Helen as a student when she was preparing to go to Radcliffe for
college. Keller certainly has seemed to have a tough background, but she ends up pushing through it
and has a great future. Helen s biggest accomplishment is finding ways to get past her lost senses. One
measly year before Keller graduated from Radcliffe she published her book The Story of My Life. In

How Does Shakespeare Use Cinematic Techniques In Romeo And...
Romeo + Juliet is a modernised film of Romeo and Juliet, which was written by William Shakespeare
in the 1600 s. The director, Baz Luhrmann is the director the film. He uses cinematic techniques to
help make the old english that was used in Shakespeare s times understandable and intriguing to a
modern audience. Some of the many techniques used are music, costumes, props, camera angles,
lighting and diegetic sound. The movie also has symbolism to convey the idea of Romeo and Juliet s
chaotic, star crossed love. The movie is set in a modern Verona Beach. Within minutes, the opening
prologue, from Shakespeare s play, hurls us into the intense amount of rage between the two families

The story of a young girl falling in love at first sight and be willing to die for her love is a difficult
concept for a modern audience to relate to. To enforce this idea, the director had to make sure of a few
things. The first being to make sure the audience could easily accept that Romeo is a naive guy,
hoping for love to come his way. And secondly, Juliet being so innocent she could fall in love with
Romeo so easily. These ideas are portrayed in believable characteristics when we first see Romeo and
Juliet in the film. When Romeo makes his debut in the movie, he is seen depressed. He is seen
smoking a cigarette whilst writing poetry and glaring aimlessly up, at a grey cloudy day. Both the
cigarette and weather can be viewed a type of symbolism in the movie. The camera shots zoom on
Romeo s face, showing the audience his melancholic facials which informs them about how he is
feeling. The director uses these types of shots throughout the movie to show the raw emotional back
story of the characters. For example, when the priest is told that Romeo wants to marry Juliet, the
camera zooms into to show his face which is in awe and disbelief; informing the audience about how
the character, the priest, is feeling. In this instance for Romeo, these shots capture the impress of a
young lad who is lost and upset. Soon after this, Juliet is introduced as being a young girl with an
innocent personality. Her parents speak of her still being a stranger to the world by saying She is still
very young. This phrase informs the audience that she is young, naive and can easily fall for any
handsome guy that comes her way. Through the movie this is done in many different ways, such as
dialogue, symbolism and in other scenes is done through the emphasis of the close ups. The director
emphasises Juliet s

Cross Border Shopping Of Federal Economy
Cross Border shopping in Federal Economy
Introduction
Emergence of revolution in the world led to globalization. Hitherto, people gain from massive and
healthy business trade across the borders (Lucas, 367). In this case, one country is able to gain from
selling or buying of goods. Moreover, countries realized the importance of creating a global trading
arena to encourage the produces from all economies through integration. In this regard, people
enjoyed from some exemptions that interfered with flow of goods and service across borders. Despite
the vast advantage that parties enjoy in this kind of trade, they face various hurdles, which demoralize
them as they perform their business transactions. For instance, changes in the economic status in one
of the countries result in reduction in value of goods. Likewise, some traders may suffer due to high
rates of taxation in the bordering countries.
Understanding the concept of cross border shopping
The presence of competition in the indirect tax within the export and import zones leads to the
creation of horizontal tax externalities. Vertical tax externalities may also arise between the central and
regional government. In most of the cases, both countries tend to maximize revenue through tax
collection through purchasing and selling of goods. One party may therefore set policies that aim at in
increasing tax collection (Lucas 369; Ballard and Lee 720). Besides, an understanding cultivates from
their works that the government

Hamilton Vs Thomas Jefferson Essay
Jefferson and Madison were two of the Founding Fathers of America. Thomas Jefferson wrote the
Declaration of Independence, and James Madison wrote many important parts of the Constitution;
these two people helped contribute to what America is today. The Constitution established America s
government, laws, and guaranteed citizens basic rights. One of the most debated issues over the
Constitution is how strictly or loosely the Constitution should be `interpreted. Although Thomas
Jefferson and James Madison were strict constructionists, this characterization changed during their
presidencies, because the circumstances necessitated a shift. Jefferson and Hamilton feuded over
whether the Bank was constitutional or not. Jefferson believed since the bank was not written or
enumerated, in the Constitution it was forbidden. Hamilton argued that the bank was constitutional
because the Constitution s implied powers did not forbid the creation of the bank therefore it was
permitted. Hamilton created the Elastic Clause of Congress that stated Congress has the power to do

Arthur Dief will run all the small orders (8 circuit boards or less) and other boards will be done on a

be drilled on a CNC machine.
The company is currently using a CNC machine for orders for equal or greater than 140 boards due to

they add one more machine.

One Size Does Not Fit All
One Size Does Not Fit all If my future were determined by just my performance on a standardized
test, I wouldn t be her. I guarantee you that Michelle Obama. Once upon a time our education system
was based on one s knowledge of the simplicity of things; however, now a days a children s
knowledge isn t based on whether he or she knows the different countries or how to answer 2+2 unless
they can relate it to a real world situation. It is based on the pure skill of how to take a test.
Standardized tests and Common Core (CC) have recently started denouncing our school system more
and more. Children are starting to get lost and confused on topics, parents deem them excessive and
unnecessary, and teachers feel inclined to teach to the test and emphasising relating everything back to
a real life situation instead of teaching their students a broad spectrum of ideas. With the adoption of
Common Core and the addition of multiple standardized tests children are starting to feel lost and left
behind when it comes to curriculum. According to Cary Grimm Common Core standards can be
compared to jumping over a fence that one knows was 2 feet but evidently was told 3 feet and missed
the next level standard. When you set a standard of what a child needs to know in each grade but only
used standardized testing to test their knowledge of what they know instead of using a more personal
approach, this degrades the system (Stern). When the education systems makes it all based on who s

Similarities Between Hamlet And The Lion King
The critically acclaimed Disney movie, The Lion King and world renowned play, Hamlet bear many
resemblances. This may be attributed to that the filmmakers of The Lion King used major plot points
of Hamlet when developing their storyboard. As the two works act supplementary to each other main
characters are seen with their own counterparts. One of the first major plot alignments of the two
stories is both main protagonists, Hamlet and Simba s fathers, King Hamlet and King Mufasa die at
the hands of their very own brothers, Claudius and Scar. This devastates these characters, which made
room for the introduction of the roles of Timon and Pumbaa later that run concurrent with the prince s
two highly respected acquaintances Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

Byzantine Sacred Arts Bearing The Mystic Ideal Of Human...
In this context, Byzantine sacred arts bearing the mystic ideal of human deification as ontological
therapy, can become de alienating pharmakon by opening a horizon in which man s (even cyberman s)
essence as homo theologicus can be properly restored and saved. Most modern and contemporary
aesthetic doctrines loyal to their post Kantian heritage have disposed of almost any trace of mystic
origin and transcendental telos as a useless waste. For this reason, they prove useless against the onto
emptying power of cyberculture. Byzantine Orthodox aesthetics as an ontological therapeutic way
with mystic origin and transcendental telos, can contribute to the de oblivion of man s essence in four
basic ways: 1. by re appropriating space through sacred architecture as an epiphanical locale where
man can dwell anew in the neighborhood of Being, 2. by re interpreting man s being in the world as an
ex static interplay with Sacred that restores his sensorial perceptions through sacred icons and music,
3. by re centering his life upon the ontological principle of self identity against the interactive
rationality of cyberlogic, and 4. by re substantiating human self experience as homo theologicus.
In the light of Byzantine onto therapeutic theology, we can interpret our own being in the world as a
reaching out towards the other as epiphany himself of Transcendence. We can recall our essence as
self identical personhood by affirming ourselves as preserving care for other s being, i.e. as

The Economic And Political Problems Of The 60 s And 70
The economic and political problems of the 60 s and 70 s have left a huge influence on the ideas and
actions of politicians today. From stagflation to the Vietnam War many politicians use these past
issues to justify their policies of today. One of the most influential economists who emerged in the
sixties was Milton Friedman, who fought against the establishment s Keynesian view and many of the
policies of FDR. He won a Nobel Prize in 1976 for his work in monetary policy with specific beliefs
in controlling the federal debt, keeping inflation low, and ideals of a lassiez faire market. His ideals
influenced some of Regan s policies of deregulation and tax cuts and drives most of the economic
policies of the modern Republican Party. One of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather he said people based their expenditures on their expected income in the next years or where
they expect to be. This was a huge theory that challenged much of the academic establishment at the
time and began to give a light to many conservatives who felt like the policies of FDR s new deal was
strangling. In 1962 Friedman wrote arguably his most notable book Capitlism and Freedom which he
argued for many things including freely floating exchange rates, the abolition of licensing doctors, and
negative tax rates instead of welfare programs. Friedman argued for a lower tax rates and a flat tax
past a certain income level to keep American efficiency at up but, unlike a most conservatives, also
argued for giving money back to people below a certain income level. He felt like this was a much
simpler approach to the problem and felt like welfare programs were all too complex and inefficient.
His book famously also argued that inflation rate being higher would also lead to higher
unemployment rate and that national debt was tied to the inflation rate. In 1970 s in a giant rise in
stagflation due to a poor economy and opec raising its prices, Friedman looked like a genius and
landed himself a spot on the Nixon advisory team. Although there were still economists who doubted
Friedman s theories as in Canada their national debt

The Bermuda Triangle is also commonly called The Devil s Triangle. It has been called this for many
years because of the many sudden disappearances of planes, ships, and people. The area of the
Bermuda Triangle lies between Bermuda, Miami, San Juan, and Puerto Rico (Ratner, 2016,p.1). There
are many legends and mysteries behind the story of the Bermuda Triangle. For many decades the

the most famous of these mysterious disappearances include Flight 19, Star Tiger and Star Ariel.

Example Of Cultural Illiteracy
Cultural Illiteracy in Conversation It was not until I stepped into high school, a completely new
environment for the first time in three years, that I truly analyzed the many worldwide issues that
caused fierce debates and divided countries. It was not much later that I noticed the absurd amount of
apathy and close mindedness that was so concretely planted into these issues. I was left wondering, in
vehement anger, where this intolerance and ignorance stemmed from, but, now, it is quite clear the
main perpetrator is cultural illiteracy. Cultural illiteracy promotes ignorance and a reliance on opinions
as facts, resulting in polarizing nationwide conversations. Cultural illiteracy can be divided into
numerous factors that narrow its complexity and make it easier to dissect, one of those factors being
the school curricula that fail to highlight aspects of certain subjects, sending students out of the doors
lacking knowledge on pertinent topics. School has failed countless children, dooming them to the
same penury as their parents because of a fragmented curriculum. Economics, a class that should be
vast and encompass the entire social class spectrum, hardly discusses the hardships those in poverty
face and the reasons they may have ended up in that situation. And because economics does not teach
students that poverty can strike unexpectedly and even the hardest workers may suffer its fervent
force, statements like it s their fault they re poor become accepted. The

Existential Psychotherapy Is Based Upon The Fundamental...
Existential psychotherapy is based upon the fundamental belief that each individual experiences
psychological and emotional difficulties. These psychological and emotional difficulties are viewed as
inner conflicts due to his or her interaction with certain conditions inherent in human existence called
givens. The theory recognizes at least four primary existential givens: freedom and associated
responsibility, death, isolation, meaninglessness (Corey, 2017, pp. 144). In therapy, the client
discovers how to incorporate the paradoxes around these concerns, and thereby increase tolerance of
the anxiety that may be associated with them. Personal responsibility and choice is emphasized, and
focus is more on the here and now . Increased mindful awareness is crucial in becoming more healthy
and fully functioning. A confrontation with any of these givens fills an individual with existential
anxiety. This anxiety is thought to reduce a person s psychological, physical, social, and spiritual
awareness, which may lead to significant long term consequences. For example, many individuals
have learned throughout their lives that each human being and their loved ones will eventually die, but
the day and time this will happen to anyone is unknown. The fact that this information is unknown
may bring people tremendous feelings of anxiety which may lead certain people to ignore the present
reality and become fixated on death and human existence. However, through existential therapy it is

Creon Tragic Hero Analysis
Aristotle once spoke that A man doesn t become a hero until he can see the root of his own downfall.
A tragic hero can be defined in many different traits and definitions but what makes a perfect tragic
hero? It also can have many different meanings and actions towards it. A perfect tragic hero must have
a flaw of judgement leading to a tragic flaw also know as a Hamartia. Also a person who is a royal
birth and holds a high place in society. Lastly a tragic hero must discover or recognize that the reversal
was brought about by their own actions. Creon in Antigone is a perfect example of meeting Aristotle s
criteria as a tragic hero.
A hero s tragic flaw is usually due to the character s lack of knowledge, lack of judgment, and
overwhelming pride. The flaw leads to destructive consequences but that does not define the hero as a
bad character. More so Aristotle believes that the tragic hero brings their downfall to evoke the
feelings of pity and fear among the audience. Aristotle says that pity is aroused by unmerited
misfortune, fear by the misfortune of a man like ourselves. This is why majority a of tragic hero s have
those traits, pity and fear, in their plays. In his play Antigone, Creon can be ... Show more content on

Superior Temporal Gyrus Research Paper
It s hard to understand how people can say dance is easy when it s so complex to be thinking about
every single part of your body at the same time making sure it s in perfect position from one
movement to the next throughout a whole routine and even before that during the hour long practices
for months. The body endures too much with bumps and bruises, stretching and soreness, and pops
and cracks but that s only the physical aspect of what a dancer has to go through. The mind is worked

The Superior temporal Gyrus is responsible for processing sounds with the primary auditory cortex.

The Civil War Era Was A Period Of Major Medical...
The Civil War era was a period of major medical advancement. New breakthroughs during this time
period had a great effect on the results of the battles and the war as a whole. Advancements in medical
procedures, sanitation, infection control, field hospitals and triage, nursing techniques, and the
development of the American Red Cross all greatly impacted the mortality rates of soldiers in both the
Union and the Confederate armies during the American Civil War in both positive and negative ways.
Amputations were the most effective and renowned surgical technique during this time period.
Amputations were wildly taboo procedures that caused much controversy at the time. By some they
were considered butchery and many questioned the military surgeons qualifications to perform such
aberrant procedures. One doctor wrote, The surgery of these battle fields has been pronounced
butchery. Gross misrepresentations of the medical officers have been made and scattered broadcast
over the country, causing deep and heart rending anxiety to those who had friends or relatives in the
army, who might at any moment require the services of a surgeon.... Despite their contentious
depictions, amputations proved to be extremely effective. As opposed to losing three fourths of their
patients afflicted by gunshot wounds to blood loss and infection they now lost only one fourth of
them. Amputations also proved effective in improving the lives of the afflicted soldiers. Instead of

The Effect Of Chlorofluorocarbon And...
Chlorofluorocarbon and hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerants have been widely used in traditional
cooling systems. These refrigerants accelerate the depletion of the Earth s ozone layer. Therefore,
adsorption air conditioning technology attracted much attention recently as an alternative solution due
to its advantage of environmental friendliness. This system as it powered by waste and/or solar heat
can help to reduce required energy and thermal pollution. This paper presents an overview of research
which have been carried out on adsorption cooling systems powered by waste heat from automobiles.
Many adsorption pairs have been studied. Zeolite water as a working adsorption pair has been widely
used in automobile adsorption cooling systems. This pair has been powered by exhaust gases from the
engine due to its relatively high working temperature. Silica gel water pair has been also widely used
in automobile adsorption cooling systems. It has been powered by waste heat from water coolant in
the engine due to its relatively low working temperature. Results show that this technology can help in
increasing overall engine efficiency and reduce thermal pollution from engines. Various modifications
in adsorption cooling systems are still required. One of the bottlenecks which prevents the
improvement of adsorption cooling technology is its relatively low performance compared to
conventional vapor mechanical compression technologies.

From the obscure period of slavery, those with darker skin was taught to hate themselves in order for
the Whites to obtain economical gain. Their goal was to break Blacks of their rich heritage and spirit
in order to control them as they would with domesticated cattle. This philosophy transcended from
generation to generation to where it was instilled into their processes of thought and their way of life.
Whites have taunted Blacks attempting to belittle their character, squander their self confidence, and
brand them the infamous word nigger . While some carried oppression on their shoulders, a selected
few rose above the negativity and began to spread self love, self efficiency and the rise of black power.
Black became beautiful and the process of dehumanization was being reversed. W.E.B. Dubois,

Analysis Of The Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka
Often times, a son may be forced or obligated to do something for their family that doesn t benefit
him. The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, explores Gregor s role as a provider in the Samsa family,
and how this role inhibits his progress and freedom. This novella demonstrates how people are
unaware of the situations that confine them, which they have no control over. In Gregor s case, he
remains trapped as a traveling salesman, a job which he dislikes, due to his lack of agency regarding
family responsibilities and potential for social advancement (movement). Only after his
metamorphosis does Gregor realize that his freedom and quality of life have been impeded by his
family obligations and lack of movement. Gregor s obligations to his family result in his inextricable
role as a provider for the Samsas. Because of the large debt accrued by his father, Gregor has been
working for the past five years, and must work an estimated six or seven more years in order to repay
it. During this decade of work, he must give up his own aspirations and individuality in order to
provide for the family. Gregor became a traveling salesman because he felt obligated, or was forced to
reverse the debt, however, he is unaware that his job is a trap from which he will never escape.
Moreover, instead of acknowledging this hidden trap, he feels great pride in the fact that he had been
able to provide such a life for his parents and sister (72). Gregor is too distracted by the fact that he s

Wilson s Disease Essay
Wilson s disease is a rare genetic disorder affecting about 1 in 30,000 people (Schilsky, 2014) in
which excess copper accumulates in the body, notably the liver and the brain (Anon, undated). It is an
autosomal recessive condition in which the ATP7B gene on chromosome 13 (EASL, 2012) is
defective. There are around 500 known mutations that can cause this defectivity (Tidy, 2014). The
ATP7B gene codes for a copper transporting P type ATPase usually found in hepatocytes (Huster,
2010) (Roberts Schilsky, 2008) that excretes excess copper into bile (EASL, 2012) (Roberts Schilsky,
2008). When this gene is defective, it causes copper to build up in the liver which can be transported
in the bloodstream to other organs such as the brain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Serum ceruloplasmin levels can be most accurately measured by assaying using the enzymatic route
(Tidy, 2014). It can also be measured using antibody dependant assays e.g. a radioimmunoassay. Such
immunologic assays can be inaccurate, and give a higher concentration of ceruloplasmin because they
cannot differentiate between apoceruloplasmin and holoceruloplasmin (EASL, 2012) (Roberts
Schilsky, 2008), 2 types of ceruloplasmin. A low serum ceruloplasmin level is not usually enough on
its own to give a positive diagnosis for Wilson s disease as there may be other causes such as
autoimmune hepatitis (EASL, 2012). In many cases, Kayser Fleischer rings can only be visible with a
slit lamp examination by an experienced observer (EASL, 2012) (Roberts Schilsky, 2008) (Weiss,
2016). In many cases, however, other diagnostic techniques must be used. For example, 24 hour
urinary copper excretion levels 1.6 µmol/24 h (or 0.64 µmol/24 h in children) can indicate Wilson s
disease (EASL, 2012). A liver biopsy core of at least 1 2 cm in length (to ensure measurement
accuracy) may also be taken if non invasive techniques are undiagnostic (EASL, 2012) (Roberts
Schilsky, 2008). Processing the sample and analysis using stains such

Malcolm X Civil Rights Activist
Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little was a civil rights activist along with being the voice of the Black
Muslim religious group. Malcolm was born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the fourth
child of eight siblings born to Earl and Louise Little. While Louise was a stay at home mom or
housewife, Earl Little was a preacher along with being an active member of the Universal Negro
Improvement Association. He was also a big supporter of Marcus Garvey, an advocate of the Black
Nationalism and Pan African movements. As a result of Mr. Little being a civil rights activist, his
family was punished for it with constant harassment from many white supremacist groups such as the
Klu Klux Klan. The harassment the family endured forced them to move many times. In 1926 Mr.
little moved his family from Nebraska to Wisconsin and then in 1928, moved to Lansing, Michigan. In
1931 while living in Michigan, Earl Little was found dead lying across streetcar tracks. Malcolm s
family strongly believed it was a murder but the police ruled Earl s death an accident. Earl s ... Show

result of this Malcolm dropped out the next year, being only 15 years old. After dropping out Malcolm
moved to Boston to leave with his half sister. Living on the streets of Boston, he soon turned to the
criminal ways and began selling drugs. As he got deeper into the life of crime he soon found himself

Why We Have Separate Political Parties In The 1790s
A) The founders of our nation believed that we as people have the right to be free, right to gather and
to have elected officials to represent our desires. But they were not so sure about having separate
political parties, but it seemed that there was no way around it, this issue was the reasons for
separation of one party over a few major issues. In the 1790s there were two groups of people with
opposing views on the how the government should run and set up. One of those groups was the
Federalists, who believed that the Constitution wasn t meant to be taken literally and wanted a strong
central government. The anti federalist or the Republicans, who supported the opposite. These two
groups became the first political parties.
Prior to the Constitution the country was ruled under the Articles of Confederation. These articles
gave the states most the power and left the government to be the middle man, coordinating efforts
between the states. One of the major concerns of the nation was how they were to defend themselves
since they had only state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People who joined this party thought that they would be able to capitalize on the changes in the
industry. They also believed that this party would give better law and order and that too many
commoners supporting the Democrats would endanger that order. The Whig party started by men such
as Henry Clay and Daniel Webster, around the year 1833. The National Republican Party was
absorbed by the Whig Party in the mid 1830s. The party had many conflicts within its self, such as
policy on slavery and the eventual demise of these leaders, that led to the end of the party. The Whig
Party officially remained a party until 1856, when it was officially declared dead. The Whig party
died, but they did not choose to join the Republican party but instead joined the Constitutional Union

  • 2. Traditional Bridal Dowry Box as a Social Evil in Indian... A satirical website created in 2011 calculates the amount of dowry women need in order to marry the men of their choice. The website mocks India s social evil, and it exposes some of the unhealthy factors families consider in order to arrive to dowry rate. Some of the factors are caste, education of the groom and even skin color. In India the custom of dowry is a very old tradition that originated in the 13th or 14th century, when women were not given any share from paternal wealth and when women were regarded as the property of either their fathers or their husbands. At that time, dowry was giving women some pre mortem inheritance and some economic security. Traditionally it was a Stridhanam daughter s wedding settlement, but in 20th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The passages suggest Roy s critique of the institution of dowry. Thus the excerpts bring value to the whole book itself and help Roy pursue her goal of criticizing the Indian society through literature and show how outdated the concept of a dowry is. These passages have also an importance because they challenge the society in a way that dowry, a widely used tradition by the people, is depicted as old fashioned. Arundhati Roy depicts dowry as old fashioned when she describes the hotel Heritage. Author says: The furniture and knickknacks that came with the house were on display. A reed umbrella, a wicker couch. A wooden dowry box. They were labeled with edifying placards that said Traditional Kerala Umbrella and Traditional Bridal Dowry box. (Roy 120) It is interesting how the dowry box is on the display as in the museum in order to show well known but old Indian tradition to the tourists and guests. Roy s description of dowry in these three different situations lets the reader understand how Roy tries to progress dowry from being used in Ammu s situation, to not being important as in Rahel s situation and later being an antique in the hotel. Arundhati Roy uses different writing techniques in order to emphasize her criticism of the system and voice her opinions as a political activist. There is no doubt that Roy cleverly uses diction and flow in order to more clearly depict to the reader her vision of dowry as an old fashioned concept , as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Carpetbaggers Carpetbaggers were northerners who headed to the southern states during and immediately after the Civil War, propelled by wanting to work on behalf of liberated slaves, a desire for economic gain, or a mix of both. Carpetbaggers got their name because many of them had large bags made from carpets to hold their belongings. Although many in the South saw carpetbaggers as people who wanted to exploit and profit from the south s misfortunes, Carpetbaggers would play an important role in shaping the south s government during Reconstruction. African Americans in the south who had just been emancipated were restricted their freedom when southern legislatures passed black codes , which forced them into repressive labor situations. The Black Codes were laws designed with the intention to guarantee African American s availability as a cheap labor force after slavery was eliminated during the Civil War, and to keep white supremacy in place. Common examples of Black Codes were: Race was defined by blood; the presence of any amount of black blood made one black, Employment was required of all freedmen; violators faced vagrancy charges, Freedmen could not assemble without the presence of a white person, Freedmen were assumed to be agricultural workers and their duties and hours were tightly regulated, Freedmen were not to be taught to read or write, ... • 4. Illegal Immigration Illegal Immigration Illegal immigration has stirred up quite a heated and lengthy debate regarding the laws pertaining to immigration. Prior to having an opinion about illegal immigration, one must first understand immigration, as a whole. An immigrant is defined as, an individual authorized to remain in the United States indefinitely, and who is a lawful permanent resident (LPR), popularly known as a green card holder. (Mehta). There are different types of immigrants who enter into the United States legally such as, persons working in the US with an employment visa, refugees and family based immigrants are essentially sponsored by a family member who is an LPR, to gain permanent residence in the US. The process for legal immigration is typically time consuming and sometimes it can be a difficult process for people wishing to enter the US. Because of this lengthy process there has been an increase in the numbers associated with illegal immigration. Despite the argument surrounding illegal immigration, immigration laws should be changed for a number of reasons. What is the origin and history of immigration laws in this country? When people think of the laws pertaining to immigration and the history of immigration in the United States many individuals think of the most recent immigration laws such as the Homeland Security Act, enforced in 2002 and the Secure Fence Act enacted in 2006. While these acts and the more recent legislation regarding immigration are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarly, presence of risk factors such as age 65, COPD, diabetes, heart failure, atherosclerotic heart disease, asthma, smoking, etc. had similar prescription rate of 62% to those patients without risk factors (Grover, Mookadam, Rutkowski, Cullan, Hill, Patchett Noble, 2012). • 12. Nature And Evil In Grendel, By John Gardner According to the Shaper, Grendel was the dark side...in effect. The terrible race God cursed (51). From his very upbringing, Grendel was cursed, set apart from the rest of nature. This isolation became evident throughout the novel as it seemed both humans and nature were against him. In the novel Grendel by John Gardner, the theme of nature fighting what is unnatural is supported by the motifs of animals, snakes, and trees. The prevalence of nature s clash with that which is unnatural is evident in the reoccurring images of animals throughout the novel. Gardner emphasizes nature s resistance to Grendel as [a bull] snorted through this nose and pawed more deeply, spattering grass and black earth at his sharp rear hooves...I watched him loll his weight forward, sliding into an easy lope, head tilted, coming toward me (20). Due to the idea that Grendel is secluded from both nature and humans, he can be considered an unnatural being for he has no place in the world. Clearly, Grendel is in discord with nature as animals, such as this bull, attack him with the intent to kill. As a result, Gardner uses the motif of animals attacking Grendel to suggest that nature as a whole is against anything foreign. Furthermore, later on in the novel when Grendel is near death, he takes notice to his surroundings expressing that animals gather around me, enemies of old, to watch me die...they watch on, evil, incredibly stupid, enjoying, my destruction (173 74). The director, Baz Luhrmann is the director the film. He uses cinematic techniques to help make the old english that was used in Shakespeare s times understandable and intriguing to a modern audience. Some of the many techniques used are music, costumes, props, camera angles, lighting and diegetic sound. The movie also has symbolism to convey the idea of Romeo and Juliet s chaotic, star crossed love. The movie is set in a modern Verona Beach. Within minutes, the opening prologue, from Shakespeare s play, hurls us into the intense amount of rage between the two families this is what makes the beginning so memorable for the audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story of a young girl falling in love at first sight and be willing to die for her love is a difficult concept for a modern audience to relate to. To enforce this idea, the director had to make sure of a few things. The first being to make sure the audience could easily accept that Romeo is a naive guy, hoping for love to come his way. And secondly, Juliet being so innocent she could fall in love with Romeo so easily. These ideas are portrayed in believable characteristics when we first see Romeo and Juliet in the film. When Romeo makes his debut in the movie, he is seen depressed. He is seen smoking a cigarette whilst writing poetry and glaring aimlessly up, at a grey cloudy day. Both the cigarette and weather can be viewed a type of symbolism in the movie. The camera shots zoom on Romeo s face, showing the audience his melancholic facials which informs them about how he is feeling. The director uses these types of shots throughout the movie to show the raw emotional back story of the characters. For example, when the priest is told that Romeo wants to marry Juliet, the camera zooms into to show his face which is in awe and disbelief; informing the audience about how the character, the priest, is feeling. In this instance for Romeo, these shots capture the impress of a young lad who is lost and upset. Soon after this, Juliet is introduced as being a young girl with an innocent personality. Her parents speak of her still being a stranger to the world by saying She is still very young. This phrase informs the audience that she is young, naive and can easily fall for any handsome guy that comes her way. Through the movie this is done in many different ways, such as dialogue, symbolism and in other scenes is done through the emphasis of the close ups. The director emphasises Juliet s ... Hitherto, people gain from massive and healthy business trade across the borders (Lucas, 367). In this case, one country is able to gain from selling or buying of goods. Moreover, countries realized the importance of creating a global trading arena to encourage the produces from all economies through integration. Despite the vast advantage that parties enjoy in this kind of trade, they face various hurdles, which demoralize them as they perform their business transactions. For instance, changes in the economic status in one of the countries result in reduction in value of goods. Likewise, some traders may suffer due to high rates of taxation in the bordering countries. Understanding the concept of cross border shopping The presence of competition in the indirect tax within the export and import zones leads to the creation of horizontal tax externalities. Vertical tax externalities may also arise between the central and regional government. In most of the cases, both countries tend to maximize revenue through tax collection through purchasing and selling of goods. One party may therefore set policies that aim at in increasing tax collection (Lucas 369; Ballard and Lee 720). Besides, an understanding cultivates from their works that the government ... Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, and James Madison wrote many important parts of the Constitution; these two people helped contribute to what America is today. The Constitution established America s government, laws, and guaranteed citizens basic rights. One of the most debated issues over the Constitution is how strictly or loosely the Constitution should be `interpreted. Although Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were strict constructionists, this characterization changed during their presidencies, because the circumstances necessitated a shift. Jefferson and Hamilton feuded over whether the Bank was constitutional or not. Jefferson believed since the bank was not written or enumerated, in the Constitution it was forbidden. In this context, Byzantine sacred arts bearing the mystic ideal of human deification as ontological therapy, can become de alienating pharmakon by opening a horizon in which man s (even cyberman s) essence as homo theologicus can be properly restored and saved. Most modern and contemporary aesthetic doctrines loyal to their post Kantian heritage have disposed of almost any trace of mystic origin and transcendental telos as a useless waste. From stagflation to the Vietnam War many politicians use these past issues to justify their policies of today. One of the most influential economists who emerged in the sixties was Milton Friedman, who fought against the establishment s Keynesian view and many of the policies of FDR. He won a Nobel Prize in 1976 for his work in monetary policy with specific beliefs in controlling the federal debt, keeping inflation low, and ideals of a lassiez faire market. His ideals influenced some of Regan s policies of deregulation and tax cuts and drives most of the economic policies of the modern Republican Party. One of ... This was a huge theory that challenged much of the academic establishment at the time and began to give a light to many conservatives who felt like the policies of FDR s new deal was strangling. In 1962 Friedman wrote arguably his most notable book Capitlism and Freedom which he argued for many things including freely floating exchange rates, the abolition of licensing doctors, and negative tax rates instead of welfare programs. Friedman argued for a lower tax rates and a flat tax past a certain income level to keep American efficiency at up but, unlike a most conservatives, also argued for giving money back to people below a certain income level. He felt like this was a much simpler approach to the problem and felt like welfare programs were all too complex and inefficient. His book famously also argued that inflation rate being higher would also lead to higher unemployment rate and that national debt was tied to the inflation rate. In 1970 s in a giant rise in stagflation due to a poor economy and opec raising its prices, Friedman looked like a genius and landed himself a spot on the Nixon advisory team. • 33. Example Of Cultural Illiteracy Cultural Illiteracy in Conversation It was not until I stepped into high school, a completely new environment for the first time in three years, that I truly analyzed the many worldwide issues that caused fierce debates and divided countries. It was not much later that I noticed the absurd amount of apathy and close mindedness that was so concretely planted into these issues. I was left wondering, in vehement anger, where this intolerance and ignorance stemmed from, but, now, it is quite clear the main perpetrator is cultural illiteracy. Cultural illiteracy promotes ignorance and a reliance on opinions as facts, resulting in polarizing nationwide conversations. Cultural illiteracy can be divided into numerous factors that narrow its complexity and make it easier to dissect, one of those factors being the school curricula that fail to highlight aspects of certain subjects, sending students out of the doors lacking knowledge on pertinent topics. School has failed countless children, dooming them to the same penury as their parents because of a fragmented curriculum. Economics, a class that should be vast and encompass the entire social class spectrum, hardly discusses the hardships those in poverty face and the reasons they may have ended up in that situation. And because economics does not teach students that poverty can strike unexpectedly and even the hardest workers may suffer its fervent force, statements like it s their fault they re poor become accepted. • 34. Existential Psychotherapy Is Based Upon The Fundamental... Existential psychotherapy is based upon the fundamental belief that each individual experiences psychological and emotional difficulties. These psychological and emotional difficulties are viewed as inner conflicts due to his or her interaction with certain conditions inherent in human existence called givens. The theory recognizes at least four primary existential givens: freedom and associated responsibility, death, isolation, meaninglessness (Corey, 2017, pp. 144). In therapy, the client discovers how to incorporate the paradoxes around these concerns, and thereby increase tolerance of the anxiety that may be associated with them. Personal responsibility and choice is emphasized, and focus is more on the here and now . Increased mindful awareness is crucial in becoming more healthy and fully functioning. A confrontation with any of these givens fills an individual with existential anxiety. This anxiety is thought to reduce a person s psychological, physical, social, and spiritual awareness, which may lead to significant long term consequences. For example, many individuals have learned throughout their lives that each human being and their loved ones will eventually die, but the day and time this will happen to anyone is unknown. The fact that this information is unknown may bring people tremendous feelings of anxiety which may lead certain people to ignore the present reality and become fixated on death and human existence. However, through existential therapy it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Creon Tragic Hero Analysis Aristotle once spoke that A man doesn t become a hero until he can see the root of his own downfall. A tragic hero can be defined in many different traits and definitions but what makes a perfect tragic hero? It also can have many different meanings and actions towards it. A perfect tragic hero must have a flaw of judgement leading to a tragic flaw also know as a Hamartia. Also a person who is a royal birth and holds a high place in society. Lastly a tragic hero must discover or recognize that the reversal was brought about by their own actions. Creon in Antigone is a perfect example of meeting Aristotle s criteria as a tragic hero. A hero s tragic flaw is usually due to the character s lack of knowledge, lack of judgment, and overwhelming pride. The flaw leads to destructive consequences but that does not define the hero as a bad character. More so Aristotle believes that the tragic hero brings their downfall to evoke the feelings of pity and fear among the audience. Aristotle says that pity is aroused by unmerited misfortune, fear by the misfortune of a man like ourselves. This is why majority a of tragic hero s have those traits, pity and fear, in their plays. Superior Temporal Gyrus Research Paper It s hard to understand how people can say dance is easy when it s so complex to be thinking about every single part of your body at the same time making sure it s in perfect position from one movement to the next throughout a whole routine and even before that during the hour long practices for months. The body endures too much with bumps and bruises, stretching and soreness, and pops and cracks but that s only the physical aspect of what a dancer has to go through. The mind is worked and conditioned along the journey to improve what you see externally. The brain undergoes critical thinking of the song playing, beats, timing, when and how to move certain body parts until the end of every performance. The Superior temporal Gyrus is responsible for processing sounds with the primary auditory cortex. Some areas of the superior temporal gyrus are specialized for processing combination of frequencies while other areas are specialized for processing changes in amplitude or frequency. New breakthroughs during this time period had a great effect on the results of the battles and the war as a whole. Advancements in medical procedures, sanitation, infection control, field hospitals and triage, nursing techniques, and the development of the American Red Cross all greatly impacted the mortality rates of soldiers in both the Union and the Confederate armies during the American Civil War in both positive and negative ways. Amputations were the most effective and renowned surgical technique during this time period. Amputations were wildly taboo procedures that caused much controversy at the time. By some they were considered butchery and many questioned the military surgeons qualifications to perform such aberrant procedures. One doctor wrote, The surgery of these battle fields has been pronounced butchery. Gross misrepresentations of the medical officers have been made and scattered broadcast over the country, causing deep and heart rending anxiety to those who had friends or relatives in the army, who might at any moment require the services of a surgeon.... Despite their contentious depictions, amputations proved to be extremely effective. • 38. The Effect Of Chlorofluorocarbon And... Chlorofluorocarbon and hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerants have been widely used in traditional cooling systems. These refrigerants accelerate the depletion of the Earth s ozone layer. Therefore, adsorption air conditioning technology attracted much attention recently as an alternative solution due to its advantage of environmental friendliness. This system as it powered by waste and/or solar heat can help to reduce required energy and thermal pollution. This paper presents an overview of research which have been carried out on adsorption cooling systems powered by waste heat from automobiles. Many adsorption pairs have been studied. Zeolite water as a working adsorption pair has been widely used in automobile adsorption cooling systems. This pair has been powered by exhaust gases from the engine due to its relatively high working temperature. Silica gel water pair has been also widely used in automobile adsorption cooling systems. It has been powered by waste heat from water coolant in the engine due to its relatively low working temperature. Results show that this technology can help in increasing overall engine efficiency and reduce thermal pollution from engines. Various modifications in adsorption cooling systems are still required. One of the bottlenecks which prevents the improvement of adsorption cooling technology is its relatively low performance compared to conventional vapor mechanical compression technologies. 2015 Elsevier Ltd. From the obscure period of slavery, those with darker skin was taught to hate themselves in order for the Whites to obtain economical gain. Their goal was to break Blacks of their rich heritage and spirit in order to control them as they would with domesticated cattle. This philosophy transcended from generation to generation to where it was instilled into their processes of thought and their way of life. Whites have taunted Blacks attempting to belittle their character, squander their self confidence, and brand them the infamous word nigger . While some carried oppression on their shoulders, a selected few rose above the negativity and began to spread self love, self efficiency and the rise of black power. The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, explores Gregor s role as a provider in the Samsa family, and how this role inhibits his progress and freedom. This novella demonstrates how people are unaware of the situations that confine them, which they have no control over. In Gregor s case, he remains trapped as a traveling salesman, a job which he dislikes, due to his lack of agency regarding family responsibilities and potential for social advancement (movement). Only after his metamorphosis does Gregor realize that his freedom and quality of life have been impeded by his family obligations and lack of movement. Gregor s obligations to his family result in his inextricable role as a provider for the Samsas. Because of the large debt accrued by his father, Gregor has been working for the past five years, and must work an estimated six or seven more years in order to repay it. During this decade of work, he must give up his own aspirations and individuality in order to provide for the family. Gregor became a traveling salesman because he felt obligated, or was forced to reverse the debt, however, he is unaware that his job is a trap from which he will never escape. Moreover, instead of acknowledging this hidden trap, he feels great pride in the fact that he had been able to provide such a life for his parents and sister (72). • 43. Wilson s Disease Essay Wilson s disease is a rare genetic disorder affecting about 1 in 30,000 people (Schilsky, 2014) in which excess copper accumulates in the body, notably the liver and the brain (Anon, undated). It is an autosomal recessive condition in which the ATP7B gene on chromosome 13 (EASL, 2012) is defective. There are around 500 known mutations that can cause this defectivity (Tidy, 2014). The ATP7B gene codes for a copper transporting P type ATPase usually found in hepatocytes (Huster, 2010) (Roberts Schilsky, 2008) that excretes excess copper into bile (EASL, 2012) (Roberts Schilsky, 2008). When this gene is defective, it causes copper to build up in the liver which can be transported in the bloodstream to other organs such as the brain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A low serum ceruloplasmin level is not usually enough on its own to give a positive diagnosis for Wilson s disease as there may be other causes such as autoimmune hepatitis (EASL, 2012). In many cases, Kayser Fleischer rings can only be visible with a slit lamp examination by an experienced observer (EASL, 2012) (Roberts Schilsky, 2008) (Weiss, 2016). In many cases, however, other diagnostic techniques must be used. For example, 24 hour urinary copper excretion levels 1.6 µmol/24 h (or 0.64 µmol/24 h in children) can indicate Wilson s disease (EASL, 2012). A liver biopsy core of at least 1 2 cm in length (to ensure measurement accuracy) may also be taken if non invasive techniques are undiagnostic (EASL, 2012) (Roberts Schilsky, 2008).
