Mock Field Report
Yesterday I attended a Human Rights Tribunal mock scenario as a member of the audience. My first
impression of the mock scenario was a picture of how nervous I am going to be when it is my turn to
create a mock trial. I was impressed at the way it was set up and how well the girls did at preparing
and recreating a trial. I was able to observe and learn the procedures performed in a trial, and how a
paralegal is to behave themselves in court. I thought the students did a great job at creating pertinent
arguments to the case and held a good demeanour in order to get their points across and effectively
represent their clients. Suzie Luchi and Marie Dawn Boothe did a great job at arguing their points,
making sure the points made were valid in the court and making sure their client was well represented.

They enable you to experience the feeling of representing a client in court instead of simply reading
about it. I am a dual learner, which means I love to read and take notes but to further my learning I
like to be able to discuss and visualize scenarios. Mock trials are able to cater to both visual and
written learners because before the mock trial can take place the student must write and research their
case. The visual learner is then able to act in a mock scenario, using their written information, to
practice being a

Theodor Herzl s Influence On Judaism
Theodor Herzl was a Jewish poet who pushed not only for the acceptance of his Jewish community,
but also for a homeland for the Jews in the Middle Eastern Palestinian area. He wrote about the
injustices he witnessed, and used his writings as a way to share his opinions. His support for the Israeli
side of the conflict was a direct result of his Jewish upbringing and ethnic background. His writings
were colored with his views and beliefs about the rights of the Jewish people. He greatly impacted the
conflict as he was the visionary for modern Zionism and the reinstitution of a Jewish homeland in
Palestine. Herzl was born in Budapest in 1860. He and his family moved to Vienna in 1878 where he
would later attend college. While in Vienna he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Herzl made valid arguments and was passionate about seeing the day when Jews could reside in their
own land. Peace was something Theodor always kept in mind, he never used violence to make any of
his points. Herzl essentially established Zionism itself, the development of a Jewish nation now
known as Israel. His first goal was to achieve support from his readers and recognition of the issue in
which he felt so strongly. He published Der Judenstaat , or The Jewish State, which quickly became
the primary source of Zionist literature in 1896. Theodor s second goal was to put the idea of a
homeland in Palestine for Jews into action. He did so by advocating the creation of a Jewish Society
or Jewish Company. The Jewish Company would handle the business and real estate aspects of a mass
migration into the land of Palestine. They would purchase the property of migrating Jews and sell it to
the Gentiles for profit. The Jewish Company legally purchased land with the profits and donations
from supporters of the Zionism movement allowing them to buy and sell to Jewish

Indigenous Studies
Indigenous Studies Topic: The colonisation of Australia was based on the legal fiction of terra nullius.
Compare and contrast the consequences of terra nullius on the experience of Australian Indigenous
people, with indigenous peoples experiences of colonisation in Canada. Word count: 2,014 Making
cultural or political comparisons between Canada and Australia is not a new phenomenon. Both are
now independent former colonies of Great Britain, who have inherently adopted many of its laws,
identity and traditions. Geographically, the nations are both large, relatively isolated, with most of its
inhabitants residing in large cities, or along the coastline (Robinson, 1991; Jeans, 1977). Making

Although nomadic, American Indians were initially seen as quite technologically advanced (in
comparison to other indigenous people the British had encountered). Signs of civilisation by western
standards were evident. Some communities had established farms, fishing facilities and trading, while
many Indian tribes were also formidable military opponents. Ottawa Chief, Potiac, had successfully
demonstrated defiance of crown rule over their land by briefly seizing British military posts
(Chartrand, 2010). Throughout the colonising effort, British powers quickly established that Canada
was not terra nullius. By 1763, the Royal Proclamation declared King George III as the ultimate
dominion over North America, but title rights to land belonged to First Nation People. Only through
treaties between tribes and the crown, could land be sold or ceded. Furthermore, upon selling or
trading land, native title was also seen to have extinguished (Dickason, 1992; Robinson, 1991). The
Royal Proclamation is still in effect these days, with the Indian Act enforcing Indigenous lands to be
vested with the Crown. Consequently, this law has created a sense of distrust between Canadian
government and First Nation people, similar to the cynicism between many Australian Aboriginal
communities and their federal government. There is a general belief that North American lands are
still in jeopardy, as long as legal titles remain outside of Indigenous people s control. Despite the

How I Bluffed My Way Through College Essay
In this analysis of the two core reading How I bluffed my Way Through College by Kate Harding and
The Idea of a University by Roger Scruton we will look at the differences and the similarities of the
ideas and thoughts of the two authors. Both authors discuss the advantages to Universities but they
differ in how universities can be a challenge to students. Scruton refers to the old university and how
they were grand and important to anyone considering further education,(Scruton,2010), but he fails to
bring a personal aspect from students. Where Harding explains that however Education is important it
comes with stress and some down falls if not completely done in the right way. She explains how
college and her choices made things harder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She recalls the struggles, the fun, her failures and even her success in the end (Harding, 2011). The
personal story shows the real road it takes with decisions we make when entering college, Harding
wrote that she began college because she felt it was expected of her (Harding, 2011). College students
often make choices based on what they perceive as pressure to do so by others like councilors, parents
and even society. They enter college thinking this is what my plan should look like and not making
choices that are the best for them. Harding said that in the end we all become graduates of one of the
finest universities in the world and already, nobody much cared how we got there (Harding,2011). To
me this shows that even if you pass by the skin of your teeth, you can still fail in the end. A diploma is
not the end result that maters the most. Students need to choose colleges that appeal to their needs and
goals and not just go to get a diploma. If students spend no time studying weather boarded or not
liking their studies, then what difference does the diploma make in the end. Students would just have a
degree that often goes unused in life but the costs is ever mounting to these students. The financial
cost, the cost of failure, loss of energy and time, causes many students to never finish their education
or even to avoid going in the

she will take the information she has learned to help her decide on a subject heading, along with 3
other subheadings with topics related to the American Revolution. By recalling this previous
information from facts learned about the American Revolution, the focus learner is demonstrating her
level of comprehension of the text/information she previously retained related to the subject area. In
the articles she chooses for her informational writing, if there are words the focus learned is unfamiliar
with, she will write them down and look them up in the dictionary. The teacher and focus learner will
discuss the unknown words and relate them to real world/life experiences to help the focus learner
better understand the meaning of the words. The focus learner has prior experience in writing
constructed response sentences, and is aware of the importance of restating the important information
in her writing. The focus learner will build off of this prior knowledge on writing and will take the
important information from an informational factual text and restate this information in her writing,
using paraphrasing to write this information. The focus learner has a difficulty with reading

The American Dream And The Future Of The American Dream
The American Dream is not presently clearly defined as it is not only an American dream but an
international one as well. A few decades ago, the American Dream was clearer in its definition; a
house with a white picket fence, 2.5 kids, and a car. Now, the idea of the possibilities in America have
reached the farthest corners of the earth to countries where people do not even speak English and still
dream of someday coming to the United States and living the dream. Presently, we are in more
realistic times, realistic in the sense that we know the dream can be altered yet still maintain the same
stability and magic that it did when we dared to dream it. In current times, the dream is a college
education and finding a career that generates an income to sustain maybe not a luxurious lifestyle but
a comfortable one. Unfortunately, the Great Recession was a wakeup call for many Millennials that
took for granted the opportunities and possibilities offered through higher education. In recent times,
Millennials are not concerned with being home owners, with tax increases and higher cost of living;
we are more interested in feeding our families and making rent. The housing crisis was not something
mentioned in passing by a stranger or on a 2 minute segment on the news; it was something that
affected all Millennials in some way. Everyone had a relative or a friend that lost their home because
of the housing crisis. These traumatic experiences have added to the cautiousness towards

Investigate the Osmosis of Potato Cells in Various Salt Solutions
Introduction
I have been asked to investigate the effect of changing the concentration of a solution on the
movement of water into and out of potato cells. I will be able to change the input of my experiment.
The input variable will be the concentration of the solution. The
100% solution is sodium chloride dissolved in water (salt water).
This will be referred to as the 100% solution from now on. But the type of solution is not important as
Osmosis is all about differences in concentrations. The output variable will be the weight of the potato
chips, the movement of the water into and out of the potato.
Osmosis is the diffusion of water through a semi permeable
membrane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is what happens when a plant dies. The water leaves it by Osmosis and the plant wilts and dies.
Planning
Firstly here is a list of equipment I used:
· Boiling tubes
· Weighing scales
· Knife
· Paper towels
· 100% solution
· 0% solution (distilled water)
· measuring beakers
· potato chips
· Cork borer
We planned to start our experiment by doing some preliminary work. We planned to set up our
experiment in the following way. We take one potato and cut from it three even potato chips. (These
potato chips will never be the same weight as we had to cut them ourselves and it is too inaccurate. So
we decided to calculate the percentage gain/loss as this would mean that the measurements are all on
the same scale.) We then would weigh the potato chips on a very sensitive weighing scale. These
weighing scales can weigh things to a hundredth of a gram so our measurements would be very
accurate. We d note down the weights. Then we d got our solutions ready. We were only given a
100% solution and a 0% solution so we had to mix them in the right ratio to get all the solutions we
needed. We decided to do 5 different types of solutions so we would have a wide range of results and
it would be more accurate. We d use 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, 0% solutions in our experiment. But for
preliminary work we would only need three different strength solutions. These were the absolute max
the absolute zero and the middle, 100%, 50% 0% solutions.
We d cut three potato chips weighed

The Blogging Industry and Its Revenue Models
The blogging industry has a unique structure. Blogging software, such as TypePad, WordPress or
Blogger (Google) typically does not generate its own revenue. WordPress is open source but sells
advertising and has private feature options for pay, TypePad is a paid subscription service, and
Blogger is usually free but provides a platform for Google to sell advertising space via their AdSense
software (Zibreg, 2009). Tumblr appears to rely on financing rather than income at the moment, not
having a sophisticated revenue generation model. Thus, four major firms all have different revenue
models. This creates a unique internal dynamic in the industry, where all players pursue bloggers to
use their platforms but all seek to monetize this traffic in different ways.
The external environment of the blogging industry is generally positive. The industry is rapidly
growing, with all three major blogging platforms among the leading websites in the world by traffic
volume. Blogspot.com (Blogger) is ranked #8 by Alexa, WordPress #18, Tumblr # 37, Blogger.com
#44 and TypePad #250 (Alexa.com, 2012). With this strength has come a shift in the way that blogs
are used. Today, the emphasis in the blogging industry is on corporate blogs that can attract eyeballs
and gain hits for client websites (Singha, 2011). Corporations employ professional content writers to
manage their blogs, whereas blogging in the beginning was a more organic, consumer driven function
(Ibid). This shift provides more

Essay on Ignorance in 12 Angry Men
Twelve Angry Men, is a play written by Reginald Rose. The play is about the process of individuals
and a court case, which is determining the fate of a teenager. It presents the themes of justice,
independence and ignorance. Rose emphasises these three themes through the characters and the
dialogue. Justice is the principle of moral rightness or equity. This is shown through juror number
eight who isn t sure whether or not the boy is actually innocent or guilty, but he persists to ask
questions and convinces the other jurors to think about the facts first. Independence is shown through
both juror number three and ten. They both believe that the defendant is guilty until they both realise
that they can not relate there past experiences with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says For this kid? You bet I d pull the switch juror eight then calls him a self appointed public
avenger which stuns juror number three.
Justice is the most important theme throughout this play. It proves that truth can t be found without a
struggle. In the play there was only one juror wanting to hear all the evidence in the court case. But
when more facts were found out then some of the other jurors wanted to hear the rest of it, which
would determine whether the defendant was guilty or not guilty. No one really knew if the boy was
guilty but or not but they figured out that he was not given a fair trial. The defence barrister didn t care
because he wasn t getting paid enough money to care. So that s what the jurors thought it was up to
them then, to repay the boy with justice.
Juror number three is an arrogant, self minded and extremely ambiguous has had a personal
experience in his life, that s why he wants the boy dead. His son ran away from a fight when he was
nine. I saw him. I was so ashamed I almost threw up. Then when he was older the boy then hit him in
the face and he has never seen him since. This puts a pre judged view inside of his head. In the end he
thinks to himself that it is not his son that is on trial therefore he can not treat him like that. He can t
hate all teenagers because of his son. Juror number ten is similar to number three in

Parliament Of Great Britain Analysis
Dear King George III and the Parliament of Great Britain, It has come to our attention that it appears
that you have forgotten how to treat the citizens of your colonies. Parliament continues to barraid us
with unlawful and ridiculous taxes and acts without granting us any form of representation in
Parliament, and no, virtual representation is not representation, regardless of whatever George
Greenville says. Furthermore, you continue to send masses of troops to our cities, such as Boston, to
enforce these ridiculous acts on us, while simultaneously expecting us, by law mind you, to feed them
and house them. We have made an attempt to reach out to you with our olive branch petition, and you

Chelmno Death Camp Research Paper
When someone thinks about the Holocaust, they think about the millions of Jews murdered at the
concentration and death camps. They think about how the Jews were forced to do manual labor for the
Nazis. Unfortunately, people overlook the Jews that did not get a chance to survive. Hundreds of
thousands of Jews lost their lives at Chelmno Death Camp. Chelmno was a small town just outside of
the city of Lodz ( Chelmno Extermination ) . Even though the city of Lodz was very close to
Chelmno, it was one of the last cities that the Nazis captured jews for their extermination. Chelmno
was very close to the forest, so that is one of the reasons for its location. There was also a

This is the first death camp where gas was used for murder on a large scale. Everything was set up by
Sonderkommando ( Cholmno Extermination ). The main reason for Chelmno was to eliminate most of
the Jews from Wartheland ( Chelmno. ). The Jews were notified that they could be sent to Austria or
somewhere else and that they would have good lives wherever they were sent. They were sent to take
baths so that they were clean and all of the things they had were taken away. The Jews were told they
had to get into a car to take them to the bath houses and once they were inside the car and it was
started, poisonous gas was released to exterminate the Jews ( Chelmno. ). After the Jews were gassed,
their bodies were put into a furnace and turned to ash. When someone had to take the ashes out of the

A New Business Adventure Of Fice Supply Industry
Staples was founded by two gentlemen, Tom Stemberg and Leo Kahn that were ready to start a new

open to building a company with a design twist of Toys R Us , which would be a business model

Buck V. Bell Case Study
Module 3 Activity: Buck v. Bell Since the time of the court s decision, what changes have been made
in the lives of individuals who are intellectually disabled? There have been widespread societal
changes in the way in which individuals with intellectual disabilities are treated since the court made
its decision in the 1920s. These changes lead to those with disabilities being able to participate in
more areas of normal life. This movement to remove barriers for people with disabilities is called
normalization (Hallahan, Kauffman, Pullen, 2015). Prior to the 1970 s, those with intellectual
disabilities were placed in institutions, but after this time there was an effort to keep people with
intellectual disabilities in their own communities. This change has both positive and negative
implications. While this brought people with intellectual disabilities back to their communities and
helped them integrate into a more normal way of life, many are now in jails or homeless. A second
piece of normalization that is particular to education is inclusion. This is the practice in which students
with exceptionalities are included in a general education classroom with their peers (Hallahan,
Kauffman, Pullen, 2015). This practice is also controversial, as there are a myriad of opinions

Colonies In The Spanish Colonies
Colonies By Kira H.
It is 1550, and there are a bunch of Spanish colonists in New Spain. Spanish wanted workers so, they
made American Indians slaves to help on their land. By 1607 colonists were heading to Virginia to go
to Jamestown. Near a river they called, James River, they built a settlement and they called
it,Jamestown. There were many people that took a big role back then. Like John Smith. John Smith
was an explorer, soldier, and writer too!
Slavery
In 1550, there were a bunch of Spanish colonists that came to New Spain. With the discovery from
gold, and silver, a bunch of colonists came to New Spain hoping to get rich. Spanish wanted more
workers to help them on their land. They made American Indians slaves, to help grow crops, and
mine. A lot of the slaves died from overwork on slavery, and hunger. Some even died from diseases
that settlers brought.
Colonists were concerned of the way the slaves were being treated. A colonist named, Bartolome De
Las Casas stood up for the American Indians from being treated badly. More Indians died, so the
Spanish wanted more and more workers. The Spanish began to make Africans slaves in New Spain.
The African slaves were also treated badly.
Jamestown It is 1607, and there are a bunch of people sailing on ships to Virginia. A man named, King
James 1, started a place that they called, Jamestown. New settlers that came to Virginia named a river,

Trees In Their Eyes Were Watching God Research Paper
Trees in Their Eyes Were Watching God
To see yourself like a tree in leaf is a beautiful way to go about life, at least it is for Janie in the book
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. It centers around Janie Crawford, a Person of
Color growing up in the 1930 s. She s independent and smart and strong willed and has to learn how
to live like that in a world working against her, she struggles with finding love, first with a man she is
forced to love, then with one who give her everything, and then with one who makes her feel young.
But seeing herself as a tree, Janie grows and changes as her life does, expanding her branches. At
numerous points in the book Janie compares herself to a tree, but the author symbolizes the change
and the relationship s within the book through the use of the metaphor of wood and trees. Some
examples of this are Mr.Killicks chopping firewood, the oak tree in the centre of Eatonville, and Tea
Cakes treatment of Janie s trees.
In the beginning of the book Janie s is forced to marry Logan Killicks, a older white man that has
good land and a good house. Janie doesn t want to marry him because she doesn t love him and doesn

Equinox Asset Management Case Study
Portfolio Management Case 6 Equinox Asset Management Executive Summary Role playing Tom
Henne, I m trying to penetrate into pension market and change the way pension funds are run
currently. The fund size is hard to tell since the cost structure of Equinox is unknown. But I have a
rough idea of running a medium size fund (between $30 to $50 million) targeting medium size clients.
I also decide to choose option 1 as the fee structure. These ideas are generated through analysis of
current economic environment, Henne s objectives, correlation between existing funds and TSX
index, performance and size of existing funds. Pension funds in Canada Pension funds are established

20% of a small fund can be too little for Equinox. If Equinox targets large funds, it can only hold 1%
to 5% of them. Large pension funds may not be willing to separate its asset into small pieces because
it will rise the cost of management. Equinox s marketing point The most attractive marketing point
should be the fee structure. Equinox s MER is much lower than other pension funds. Getting paid
based on the return of the fund instead of the size can effectively eliminate the agency problem since it
aligns the interest of clients and managers. Clients can see greater opportunities to get higher return by
investing in Equinox. 2 Equinox should provide lower MER or it can show no strength compared to
the existing big pension funds. Option 4 is too risky for Henne given current market environment. He
may not be able to cover the cost if the market has not come out of the downturn. 3 Equinox needs
$52.5 million to cover the fixed cost if Henne chooses option 2 and $105 million if he chooses option
1 4 A medium size fund of $30 to $50 million has little difference in return based on fund size no
matter Henne chooses option 1 or 2.. Henne also appears to be pretty confident in the performance of
Equinox. So it can be more profitable for Henne to choose an option with higher performance fee
based on excess over returns. Appendix: Chart 1: Information of Six Funds in Exhibit 3 London

Luke advises his son, Nigel, about how to interact with white people. Luke does his work in a

quote shows the importance of the plot as the way slaves were portrayed and treated.

Kazu Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go
Throughout Kazu Ishiguro s novel Never Let Me Go, he choices to depict children as outsiders to the
world which can be furthered by the setting in Britain s countryside because it helps give a sense
distance from true reality. In the framework throughout his novel Ishiguro focuses on three main
characters Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy. These three students are seen by others to have an advantage
because they were lucky enough to be raised at Hailsham by the guardians. Over the watchful eye of
the Guardians the children were able to grow accustom to being different than others. This can be seen

This was the tipping point for teachers at Hailsham because now their work was in the spotlight and
outsiders did not support their methods. This directly correlates with the closing of Hailsham because
it questions the motives behind schools like Hailsham and their ultimate goal of education. One major
worry for society at this time in the novel is that these cloned children will eventually replace normal
ones in everyday life.
Throughout the novel the fear of the unknown stands outs not just to the outside world and their
perceptions of clones but also the children growing up at Hailsham The most common criticism that is
raised to cloning in general is that it entitles one to start playing God. Throughout the novel, Ishiguro
examines many other ways that individuals might play God. This can be seen when Chrissie and
Rodney try to change their fate by getting a deferral while in return they are playing God much to the
extent the scientists who created them in the first place were. The organ donation program was started
in the first place on the idea that the clones owe their lives to society, and should be prepared to
sacrifice themselves later in their life. Thus at any given time the clones should be ready for their job

Analysis Of Marija Gimbutas s The Living Goddess
Archeology like any other science is prone to uncertainty and a couple mistakes. However, when an
idea is presented as a fact, it is outrageous, nothing is completely definite and everything is basically a
theory. Marija Gimbutas was very passionate about the Goddess, in The Living Goddess, she says,
The role of the father in prehistoric antiquity was either not fully understood or not as highly valued as
that of the mother, (112). Nevertheless, the way that she presented her argument was not convincing.
Gimbutas acted as though she knew the history of a civilization just by looking at the artifacts she
found, she used her own research as her evidence to support her claims, and lastly she is guilty of
letting her own ideas cloud her judgment. Throughout her work, Gimbutas appears to be omniscient
claiming to know that there was a civilization in Old Europe that was matrifocal, peaceful and offered
its citizens a higher quality of life. She paves the road for her peaceful utopia by defining the word
civilization through the eyes of an archeologist, Historians have assumed that civilization implies a
hierarchical political and religious organization, warfare, a class stratification, and a complex division
of labor, (Gimbutas, The Civilization viii). Once she introduced the barbaric society that revolved
around males she contrasts this by saying that gynocentric cultures did not revolve around petty
superficial things that mattered in a patriarchal society (Gimbutas, The

The Woman Who Walked Into Doors is a novel written by Roddy Doyle, set in Ireland in the early
1990s. This story combines love and violence and shows how the two can go together in one marriage.
The story is written like a diary of Paula Spencer s good and bad memories in her life and gives the
reader the impression that Paula is sharing her life story with us and she is also narrating her life as we
read.
The story begins with a prison guard arriving at Mrs Spencer s door to give Paula the unfortunate
news that her husband, Charlo has died. Then Paula explains the marital status between her and her

She was married to Charles, better known as Charlo for eighteen years and has four children, Nicola
aged eighteen, John Paul aged sixteen, Leanne aged twelve and Jack aged five and is thirty nine years
of age herself. Her fifth child died during pregnancy, no thanks to the brutal attacks she experienced.
She has become a widow, and before her husband s death, was separated from him. Her father died of
cancer. She has three sisters, one of which is dead and three brothers. Her mother is alive and well.
Paula is an alcoholic and blames it on Charlo because of the horrendous way he treated her. To try and
block this out she started drinking heavily. She fell deeper and deeper into the grip of alcoholism. She
found it made her forget about reality and often made her feel calmer. However, she never drank until
her children were in bed, thus sparing them the heartache of seeing their mother in such a drunken
state. She works as a cleaner, mainly in houses and she cleans an office building on Tuesdays. She
hides her alcohol in the shed and throws the key into the garden until she needs it at night when she
will go and find it. She is very proud of her children because they have helped her survive through the
harder times. Her only main concern is the welfare of her children. She tells us that her favourite child
is Jack, the youngest. Her oldest son, John Paul is living elsewhere and by the time he reaches sixteen,

The House of Bernarda Alba and A Doll s House, by Frederico Garcia Lorca and Henrik Ibsen

Bernarda Alba debuted in Madrid Spain, thirty one years after it s birth in 1933. It pioneered the style
of surrealistic imagery, popular folklore and was written in prose. A Doll s House was published in

...History repeats itself (Garcia Lorca 169) was said in a comparison between Adela s mother and
grandmother. In the play, A Doll s House, Torvald allows his pride to come between him and his wife,
causing a deceitful marriage. Torvald once said ...happiness is not the question; all that concerns us is
to save the remains, the fragments, the appearance (Ibsen 63). Central to both plays, pride is seen
almost as a character. It sometimes holds characters back, while others it thrusts stumbling forward.
Always, however, its impact can be felt and its imprint can be seen.
The dominant characters in both plays are rulers of their domain. Bernarda self righteously rules her
household emphasizing pride and status. Even when her maid Poncia has valid opinions, she does not

Bernarda rules quick and harsh, as she wants to be a decisive ruler with no guidance. However,
Torvald is the ruler of a much smaller household. He wants his house to be a place of discipline, order,
and respect. As with Bernarda, dominance is based on pride. This is revealed when he said, I would
gladly work night and day for you...But no man would sacrifice his honor for the one he loves (Ibsen

Searching. Ben Was At Home On A Saturday Night Waiting
Searching
Ben was at home on a Saturday night waiting on his wife. He had made reservations at her favourite
restaurant. When Ben last called Claire she said she would be home in an hour. It had been two hours
and there was still no sign of Claire. It was not usual of her to leave Ben uninformed. Ben s concern
grew and just as he got up to call her, there was a loud knock on the door. Ben knew it was Claire;
after 6 years of marriage, he recognised her annoyingly loud knock. Where have you been? Ben asked.

He silently stood with his ear close the door, attempting to eavesdrop on the chatter coming from
within the flat. He could not make out anything. Just as he was about to bang on the door, he noticed
an air vent near the door and peaked through it.
From there he saw Claire. She was perched on the floor: participating in what, to him, looked like
some sort ritual. A Séance. The woman who was leading the ritual was very strange looking, sort of,
how you would expect a clairvoyant, or is it a medium to look like, Ben thought. He could not believe
his eyes; never in a million years would he expect Claire to engage in such a thing. After all, they were
both university graduates, well educated people. Ben thought he knew Claire well enough to know she
would never do take part in such a thing or believe in these rituals.
He spent the whole day questioning why she would do this, but even after having spent the entire day
thinking, he could not come to any conclusion. He decided to contact his therapist to talk about the
situation and settle his mind on what he should do. His therapist was the only person Ben ever spoke
to about his feelings and emotions. The only person he spoke about Claire to. Ben had told Claire
about the therapy sessions and recommended that she could take talk to someone too; she rejected him

  • 2. Mock Field Report Yesterday I attended a Human Rights Tribunal mock scenario as a member of the audience. My first impression of the mock scenario was a picture of how nervous I am going to be when it is my turn to create a mock trial. I was impressed at the way it was set up and how well the girls did at preparing and recreating a trial. I was able to observe and learn the procedures performed in a trial, and how a paralegal is to behave themselves in court. I thought the students did a great job at creating pertinent arguments to the case and held a good demeanour in order to get their points across and effectively represent their clients. Suzie Luchi and Marie Dawn Boothe did a great job at arguing their points, making sure the points made were valid in the court and making sure their client was well represented. ... I am a dual learner, which means I love to read and take notes but to further my learning I like to be able to discuss and visualize scenarios. Mock trials are able to cater to both visual and written learners because before the mock trial can take place the student must write and research their case. The visual learner is then able to act in a mock scenario, using their written information, to practice being a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theodor Herzl s Influence On Judaism Theodor Herzl was a Jewish poet who pushed not only for the acceptance of his Jewish community, but also for a homeland for the Jews in the Middle Eastern Palestinian area. He wrote about the injustices he witnessed, and used his writings as a way to share his opinions. His support for the Israeli side of the conflict was a direct result of his Jewish upbringing and ethnic background. His writings were colored with his views and beliefs about the rights of the Jewish people. He greatly impacted the conflict as he was the visionary for modern Zionism and the reinstitution of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Herzl was born in Budapest in 1860. He and his family moved to Vienna in 1878 where he would later attend college. While in Vienna he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Herzl made valid arguments and was passionate about seeing the day when Jews could reside in their own land. Peace was something Theodor always kept in mind, he never used violence to make any of his points. Herzl essentially established Zionism itself, the development of a Jewish nation now known as Israel. His first goal was to achieve support from his readers and recognition of the issue in which he felt so strongly. He published Der Judenstaat , or The Jewish State, which quickly became the primary source of Zionist literature in 1896. Theodor s second goal was to put the idea of a homeland in Palestine for Jews into action. He did so by advocating the creation of a Jewish Society or Jewish Company. The Jewish Company would handle the business and real estate aspects of a mass migration into the land of Palestine. They would purchase the property of migrating Jews and sell it to the Gentiles for profit. The Jewish Company legally purchased land with the profits and donations from supporters of the Zionism movement allowing them to buy and sell to Jewish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Indigenous Studies Indigenous Studies Topic: The colonisation of Australia was based on the legal fiction of terra nullius. Compare and contrast the consequences of terra nullius on the experience of Australian Indigenous people, with indigenous peoples experiences of colonisation in Canada. Word count: 2,014 Making cultural or political comparisons between Canada and Australia is not a new phenomenon. Both are now independent former colonies of Great Britain, who have inherently adopted many of its laws, identity and traditions. Geographically, the nations are both large, relatively isolated, with most of its inhabitants residing in large cities, or along the coastline (Robinson, 1991; Jeans, 1977). Making comparisons between Australia and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although nomadic, American Indians were initially seen as quite technologically advanced (in comparison to other indigenous people the British had encountered). Signs of civilisation by western standards were evident. Some communities had established farms, fishing facilities and trading, while many Indian tribes were also formidable military opponents. Ottawa Chief, Potiac, had successfully demonstrated defiance of crown rule over their land by briefly seizing British military posts (Chartrand, 2010). Throughout the colonising effort, British powers quickly established that Canada was not terra nullius. By 1763, the Royal Proclamation declared King George III as the ultimate dominion over North America, but title rights to land belonged to First Nation People. Only through treaties between tribes and the crown, could land be sold or ceded. Furthermore, upon selling or trading land, native title was also seen to have extinguished (Dickason, 1992; Robinson, 1991). The Royal Proclamation is still in effect these days, with the Indian Act enforcing Indigenous lands to be vested with the Crown. Consequently, this law has created a sense of distrust between Canadian government and First Nation people, similar to the cynicism between many Australian Aboriginal communities and their federal government. There is a general belief that North American lands are still in jeopardy, as long as legal titles remain outside of Indigenous people s control. Despite the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How I Bluffed My Way Through College Essay In this analysis of the two core reading How I bluffed my Way Through College by Kate Harding and The Idea of a University by Roger Scruton we will look at the differences and the similarities of the ideas and thoughts of the two authors. Both authors discuss the advantages to Universities but they differ in how universities can be a challenge to students. Scruton refers to the old university and how they were grand and important to anyone considering further education,(Scruton,2010), but he fails to bring a personal aspect from students. Where Harding explains that however Education is important it comes with stress and some down falls if not completely done in the right way. She explains how college and her choices made things harder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She recalls the struggles, the fun, her failures and even her success in the end (Harding, 2011). The personal story shows the real road it takes with decisions we make when entering college, Harding wrote that she began college because she felt it was expected of her (Harding, 2011). College students often make choices based on what they perceive as pressure to do so by others like councilors, parents and even society. They enter college thinking this is what my plan should look like and not making choices that are the best for them. Harding said that in the end we all become graduates of one of the finest universities in the world and already, nobody much cared how we got there (Harding,2011). To me this shows that even if you pass by the skin of your teeth, you can still fail in the end. A diploma is not the end result that maters the most. Students need to choose colleges that appeal to their needs and goals and not just go to get a diploma. If students spend no time studying weather boarded or not liking their studies, then what difference does the diploma make in the end. Students would just have a degree that often goes unused in life but the costs is ever mounting to these students. The financial cost, the cost of failure, loss of energy and time, causes many students to never finish their education or even to avoid going in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The American Dream And The Future Of The American Dream The American Dream is not presently clearly defined as it is not only an American dream but an international one as well. A few decades ago, the American Dream was clearer in its definition; a house with a white picket fence, 2.5 kids, and a car. Now, the idea of the possibilities in America have reached the farthest corners of the earth to countries where people do not even speak English and still dream of someday coming to the United States and living the dream. Presently, we are in more realistic times, realistic in the sense that we know the dream can be altered yet still maintain the same stability and magic that it did when we dared to dream it. In current times, the dream is a college education and finding a career that generates an income to sustain maybe not a luxurious lifestyle but a comfortable one. Unfortunately, the Great Recession was a wakeup call for many Millennials that took for granted the opportunities and possibilities offered through higher education. In recent times, Millennials are not concerned with being home owners, with tax increases and higher cost of living; we are more interested in feeding our families and making rent. The housing crisis was not something mentioned in passing by a stranger or on a 2 minute segment on the news; it was something that affected all Millennials in some way. Everyone had a relative or a friend that lost their home because of the housing crisis. These traumatic experiences have added to the cautiousness towards ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Investigate the Osmosis of Potato Cells in Various Salt... Investigate the Osmosis of Potato Cells in Various Salt Solutions Introduction I have been asked to investigate the effect of changing the concentration of a solution on the movement of water into and out of potato cells. I will be able to change the input of my experiment. The input variable will be the concentration of the solution. The 100% solution is sodium chloride dissolved in water (salt water). This will be referred to as the 100% solution from now on. But the type of solution is not important as Osmosis is all about differences in concentrations. The output variable will be the weight of the potato chips, the movement of the water into and out of the potato. Osmosis is the diffusion of water through a semi permeable membrane ... Planning Firstly here is a list of equipment I used: · Boiling tubes · Weighing scales · Knife · Paper towels · 100% solution · 0% solution (distilled water) · measuring beakers · potato chips · Cork borer We planned to start our experiment by doing some preliminary work. We planned to set up our experiment in the following way. We take one potato and cut from it three even potato chips. (These potato chips will never be the same weight as we had to cut them ourselves and it is too inaccurate. So we decided to calculate the percentage gain/loss as this would mean that the measurements are all on the same scale.) We then would weigh the potato chips on a very sensitive weighing scale. These weighing scales can weigh things to a hundredth of a gram so our measurements would be very accurate. We d note down the weights. Then we d got our solutions ready. We were only given a 100% solution and a 0% solution so we had to mix them in the right ratio to get all the solutions we needed. We decided to do 5 different types of solutions so we would have a wide range of results and

  • 10. The Blogging Industry and Its Revenue Models The blogging industry has a unique structure. Blogging software, such as TypePad, WordPress or Blogger (Google) typically does not generate its own revenue. WordPress is open source but sells advertising and has private feature options for pay, TypePad is a paid subscription service, and Blogger is usually free but provides a platform for Google to sell advertising space via their AdSense software (Zibreg, 2009). Tumblr appears to rely on financing rather than income at the moment, not having a sophisticated revenue generation model. Thus, four major firms all have different revenue models. This creates a unique internal dynamic in the industry, where all players pursue bloggers to use their platforms but all seek to monetize this traffic in different ways. The external environment of the blogging industry is generally positive. The industry is rapidly growing, with all three major blogging platforms among the leading websites in the world by traffic volume. Blogspot.com (Blogger) is ranked #8 by Alexa, WordPress #18, Tumblr # 37, Blogger.com #44 and TypePad #250 (Alexa.com, 2012). With this strength has come a shift in the way that blogs are used. Today, the emphasis in the blogging industry is on corporate blogs that can attract eyeballs and gain hits for client websites (Singha, 2011). Corporations employ professional content writers to manage their blogs, whereas blogging in the beginning was a more organic, consumer driven function (Ibid). This shift provides more ... • 11. Essay on Ignorance in 12 Angry Men Twelve Angry Men, is a play written by Reginald Rose. The play is about the process of individuals and a court case, which is determining the fate of a teenager. It presents the themes of justice, independence and ignorance. Rose emphasises these three themes through the characters and the dialogue. Justice is the principle of moral rightness or equity. This is shown through juror number eight who isn t sure whether or not the boy is actually innocent or guilty, but he persists to ask questions and convinces the other jurors to think about the facts first. Independence is shown through both juror number three and ten. They both believe that the defendant is guilty until they both realise that they can not relate there past experiences with ... Justice is the most important theme throughout this play. It proves that truth can t be found without a struggle. In the play there was only one juror wanting to hear all the evidence in the court case. But when more facts were found out then some of the other jurors wanted to hear the rest of it, which would determine whether the defendant was guilty or not guilty. No one really knew if the boy was guilty but or not but they figured out that he was not given a fair trial. The defence barrister didn t care because he wasn t getting paid enough money to care. So that s what the jurors thought it was up to them then, to repay the boy with justice. Juror number three is an arrogant, self minded and extremely ambiguous has had a personal experience in his life, that s why he wants the boy dead. His son ran away from a fight when he was nine. I saw him. I was so ashamed I almost threw up. Then when he was older the boy then hit him in the face and he has never seen him since. This puts a pre judged view inside of his head. In the end he thinks to himself that it is not his son that is on trial therefore he can not treat him like that. He can t hate all teenagers because of his son. The Jews were notified that they could be sent to Austria or somewhere else and that they would have good lives wherever they were sent. They were sent to take baths so that they were clean and all of the things they had were taken away. The Jews were told they had to get into a car to take them to the bath houses and once they were inside the car and it was started, poisonous gas was released to exterminate the Jews ( Chelmno. ). After the Jews were gassed, their bodies were put into a furnace and turned to ash. • 15. Buck V. Bell Case Study Module 3 Activity: Buck v. Bell Since the time of the court s decision, what changes have been made in the lives of individuals who are intellectually disabled? There have been widespread societal changes in the way in which individuals with intellectual disabilities are treated since the court made its decision in the 1920s. These changes lead to those with disabilities being able to participate in more areas of normal life. This movement to remove barriers for people with disabilities is called normalization (Hallahan, Kauffman, Pullen, 2015). Prior to the 1970 s, those with intellectual disabilities were placed in institutions, but after this time there was an effort to keep people with intellectual disabilities in their own communities. This change has both positive and negative implications. While this brought people with intellectual disabilities back to their communities and helped them integrate into a more normal way of life, many are now in jails or homeless. A second piece of normalization that is particular to education is inclusion. This is the practice in which students with exceptionalities are included in a general education classroom with their peers (Hallahan, Kauffman, Pullen, 2015). Trees In Their Eyes Were Watching God Research Paper Trees in Their Eyes Were Watching God To see yourself like a tree in leaf is a beautiful way to go about life, at least it is for Janie in the book Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. It centers around Janie Crawford, a Person of Color growing up in the 1930 s. She s independent and smart and strong willed and has to learn how to live like that in a world working against her, she struggles with finding love, first with a man she is forced to love, then with one who give her everything, and then with one who makes her feel young. But seeing herself as a tree, Janie grows and changes as her life does, expanding her branches. At numerous points in the book Janie compares herself to a tree, but the author symbolizes the change and the relationship s within the book through the use of the metaphor of wood and trees. Some examples of this are Mr.Killicks chopping firewood, the oak tree in the centre of Eatonville, and Tea Cakes treatment of Janie s trees. In the beginning of the book Janie s is forced to marry Logan Killicks, a older white man that has good land and a good house. Large pension funds may not be willing to separate its asset into small pieces because it will rise the cost of management. Equinox s marketing point The most attractive marketing point should be the fee structure. Equinox s MER is much lower than other pension funds. Getting paid based on the return of the fund instead of the size can effectively eliminate the agency problem since it aligns the interest of clients and managers. Clients can see greater opportunities to get higher return by investing in Equinox. 2 Equinox should provide lower MER or it can show no strength compared to the existing big pension funds. Option 4 is too risky for Henne given current market environment. He may not be able to cover the cost if the market has not come out of the downturn. 3 Equinox needs $52.5 million to cover the fixed cost if Henne chooses option 2 and $105 million if he chooses option 1 4 A medium size fund of $30 to $50 million has little difference in return based on fund size no matter Henne chooses option 1 or 2.. However, when an idea is presented as a fact, it is outrageous, nothing is completely definite and everything is basically a theory. Marija Gimbutas was very passionate about the Goddess, in The Living Goddess, she says, The role of the father in prehistoric antiquity was either not fully understood or not as highly valued as that of the mother, (112). Nevertheless, the way that she presented her argument was not convincing. Gimbutas acted as though she knew the history of a civilization just by looking at the artifacts she found, she used her own research as her evidence to support her claims, and lastly she is guilty of letting her own ideas cloud her judgment. Throughout her work, Gimbutas appears to be omniscient claiming to know that there was a civilization in Old Europe that was matrifocal, peaceful and offered its citizens a higher quality of life. She paves the road for her peaceful utopia by defining the word civilization through the eyes of an archeologist, Historians have assumed that civilization implies a hierarchical political and religious organization, warfare, a class stratification, and a complex division of labor, (Gimbutas, The Civilization viii). Once she introduced the barbaric society that revolved around males she contrasts this by saying that gynocentric cultures did not revolve around petty superficial things that mattered in a patriarchal society (Gimbutas, The ...
