The new common core initiative that seems to be sweeping...
The new common core initiative that seems to be sweeping the nation is yet another attempt at
reforming our nations crumbling education system. My assigned role in the simulation was that of
Representative Todd Rokita, republican congressman from Indiana s fourth district, for which I will be
giving a short introduction. An explanation of the current federal education standards in America, how
the common core is related to international education standards, and the states that have implemented
the common core and why they have chose to do so will follow. We will also look at who is making
these proposed reforms and who is most eager to implement common core on a federal level. Then
examine where Representative Rokita stands on the issues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bush in January of 2002 (Ginsburg 2013). The idea behind No Child Left Behind was the fact that in
different regions of the country with different economic and racial backgrounds there was an
achievement gap between children of these different groups and something must to be done to fix the
problem. The act is voluntary on a state by state basis but to receive title I funding the state must be
enrolled in No Child Left Behind. The goal of No Child Left Behind was to have every child that
attended school in public schools in America would be 100 percent proficient in math and reading by
2014. The public schools that held there standards to the highest quality are rewarded with extra
money and the schools whose standards were failing were given less, in a hope to hold schools
accountable for the quality of education they were providing. To gauge the schools quality of
education participating schools must participate in standardized testing that shows the schools are
meeting academic proficiency. In 2012 President Obama announced that states would be able to
receive a waiver on the 100 percent proficiency by 2014 part of the act. States that receive a waiver
must set state specific, federally approved goals for education. So are our current education standards
working? There is much praise by some parents for NCLB (Randolph 2012). Parents have seen there

Convict Lease System
It is commonly believed that after the onset of the Civil War, Lincoln s signing of the Emancipation
Proclamation was the key driver to freeing the slaves of the south. After the Civil War, the 13th, 14th,
and 15th Constitutional amendments were passed which aided newly freed slaves in being equally
treated under the law, or so the story goes. The fact of the matter is that even after the Emancipation
Proclamation and after the amendments, slavery in the United States was still legal and not only that,
but it took on a much different form. The institution of slavery changed from having the direct
enslavement of blacks, to the United States legal and prison system enslaving blacks. Yet, the
enslavement itself was changed as black convicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, slavery pulled white workers down in two ways: one, by direct competition with slave labor in
the South, and two, by associating all the industrious efforts of workers with those of the degraded
slaves.
Yet, there was a difference of opinion in the minds of Southern elites who wanted to continue slavery,
but on different terms.
Looking at the social order at the time is important to understanding what is to come. While the slaves
were now free and able to do as they pleased, there was still a deeply embedded racism within the
minds of Southern whites. Just because blacks had fought in the Civil War did not suddenly mean that
the perception of blacks had changed; rather to the Southern elites, they still viewed blacks as inferior
and only good for labor, longing to perpetuate the slave system but within a new industrial framework
seeing as how the agricultural framework had been destroyed. This new system was to be found in
through convict leasing.
With the end of reconstruction and a change power in the South, the nature of both crime and

Essay on X-Ray Screeners Could See X-Rated X-Rays
In this article Airport Screeners Could See X rated X ray s Joe Sharkey tells us a little bit about a new
airline security program. Sharkey advertizes that airlines are trying to bring in X ray units that will be
able to look beyond clothing, to the outline of bare skin. This precaution is becoming effective
because technology is getting more advanced. Since metal detectors can t be as reliable as we once
thought, serious measures need to be demanded. However, scientists have discovered the previous
precautions of metal detectors are irrelevant due to liquid hazard that they cannot detect. This article
even says, it found that federal airport screeners using metal detecting magnetometers did a miserable
job identifying weapons concealed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This article informs us about the pros and cons of X ray scanners. Yes, they are more advanced then
the previous technology before the tragedy of 9 11 and have a high chance of detecting hazardous
substances. On the other hand, they invade your privacy down to your nude body. Is it law abiding to
let a security guard be able to scan your children? In our society we know of nude to be specifically
sexual. Our nude bodies are something we keep to ourselves. It comes as a disgrace to some to see
people reveal their body to strangers, or the public. There are professions that some may engage in
that are known as exotic dancing, which is the revealing of the body. In Stripped: Inside the lives of an
exotic dancer, Bernadette Barton says even though this act is legal, it breaks the rules of being a
respectable lady in this society. Being the case, would make x ray scanning for the public against the
rules of a respectable society. In this article Joe Sharkey introduced his claim very well and
surprisingly neutral minded. From a readers perspective he was able to produce information in a
structured and very un bias manner. This article gave a great outlook on what all comes with the
production of a new security precaution. This article was very effective to the public. Being the fact
that this article had no warrant, makes it easier for the public to evaluate and think critically on which
claim they prefer. Also due to the fact this article

The Heart Of The Lungs
The Lungs are a part of every living human and animal that exist today. The lungs are classified as one
of the hardest working organs in the body, besides the heart. They can expand and contract up to 20
times a minute or more to provide oxygen to be distributed to tissues in all parts of the body. They are
considered to be the largest organ in the body. Taking up over forty percent of the chest cavity. Due to
the size, we can only have two. The heart takes up the other space in the upper cavity. Each lung is
made up of a sponge like material of tissue. They have been divided up into sections called lobes. The
right lung has three lobes and the left lung only has two. These are called the superior, middle, and
inferior. The average size of the lungs is 11 in. in length. Most normal adult human s lungs are about
the same size. The normal lungs have an average weight of 234 grams or so. The weight depends a lot
on the health of the lung. The average pair of human lungs can hold about 5 liters of air.
Approximately, a healthy human can breathe up to 24480 times in a day. The lungs are red color
because it is smooth muscles. It is made of all muscle tissue. The job of my organ is to take oxygen
from the air and carbon dioxide is exchange. It does its job with the millions tiny grape likes cells that
are called alveoli, which allows oxygen to seep into the capillaries or the thin wall that air sacs where
carbon dioxide exchange take place.

Economic Problems In Bhutan
A young family fleeing from Bangladesh comes to Bhutan and needs to start a new life. The family
does not see much, since half of the country is covered with the Himalayan mountain range. The
family is unable to visit any beaches or coastline due to the fact that Bhutan is a landlocked country.
As the family tries to start their new lives, they have trouble finding clean, potable water and are
limited with their options for jobs.
This struggle for finding clean water and limited food is common to all who live and visit the country
of Bhutan. There are many problems that the government needs to fix, and these problems vary
greatly. In order to fix these issues, the Bhutan government will need make changes in the economy
and add some regulations to grow as a country.
Before the issues of Bhutan can be fixed, the current problems need to be recognized. With the few
jobs that Bhutan has to offer, the family is struggling to find an opening. They cannot find jobs due to
the fact that most are taken since the unemployment rate is only at 2.5%, which is very low compared
to surrounding countries. Even with the low unemployment rate, the country is in debt of $593
million. As the country has been trying to lower this debt, it cannot because of the few resources it has
available. Instead of selling goods to other countries, Bhutan is buying more manufactured goods; this
leads to a large amount of debt for the country. Debt is only one of the things that

Similarities Between Navajo And Hopi
The perception of evil for the Navajo and Hopi widely differs from what our culture believes. To us,
you can either be good or evil but not both. We see a split and think that a person is just bad, whereas
the Navajo and Hopi cultures have views that are less severe to the individual in question. The Navajo
believe that what distinguishes good from evil is control, because acts can be both good and evil.
When something has little ability to be controlled by man, the situation has a higher likelihood of
being evil. Additionally, the Navajo don t see evil as being a kind of negative moral corruption or an
ethical problem. Instead, they see evil as being a realistic event, like death, illness, droughts, or
famines, because these events can t be controlled. When there is not control that is when evil prevails.

Unlike our culture, which see s evil as a punishment or retaliation, the Hopi see s evil as occurring if
someone has ill thoughts toward themselves or others. Another way for there to be a break in the
universe is if an individual dislikes some aspect of the universe. To the Hopi, the actions are what is
bad not the person, and the universe just needs to find equilibrium again when something bad
happens. Breaking the universe can occur when someone take more food than they need or if they are
not being generous enough with what he does have. When the universe needs to be restored because
evil has occurred, the Hopi individual must first examine himself to decide if he is in a happy state of
mind. If he is, the blame for the evil can be pushed to other. In this case, there is constant surveillance
of neighbors and close relatives do determine who is having ill thoughts, which is practice derived
from the Pueblo, however the Hopi are not as anxious about these practices. Additionally, the Hopi are

Disadvantages Of Service Oriented Architecture
!!!Definitions
!!What is a Microservice?
Microservices are a method of designing software applications in which the application components
are divided into small independent processes called Microservices which communicate with each
other using API to form a complete application.
!!What is Service Oriented Architecture(SOA)?
With Service Oriented Architecture a communication protocol is used to make public, platform
independent services available to any application or user that needs them. SOAs provide services to
components that may involve simple data passing routines or connect to another service or carry out
some small functions.
!!What is an Application Programming Interface (API)?
It is an interface. It is in between two different applications, allowing them to communicate. An
application programming interface is therefore defines as an application that allows two pieces of
software to communicate with each other.

These definitions make room for a broad spectrum of interpretations. We are going to use an

Microservices have to do with the breaking down of an application into components while APIs
function is to expose the functional characteristics of an application. With SOAs they are another form
of architectural approach to application development and serve to expose the functionality of an
application by an independent service. These services are designed for re use in various

A Reflection On Education
Reflection Education
Ideological Domain The media, arts, religion, and education represent institutions whose primary
purpose is ideological producing and distributing ideas and knowledge about society and it s people
why society is organized the what it is what people need to know in order to function in society
(Webb, pg 12)
As it is said in our Ferguson readings, we live in a systematic system in where gender is structured
based on your sex and we teach kids this at a very young age. Society does this in behind media, art,
religion and specifically in education. Behind all of that, is how society tells and distributes
information to children on how society runs and they way it Needs to be organized in order for society
to work properly. With this being said, The Price Waterhouse v. Hopkins case brings a good issues in
where many do keep silence in: Sex Discrimination and it is well hidden since society has a certain
way to control gender rolls and other things.
But how does this tie in with Education? Lot of schools have set systems in where they have to keep
children separated on certain issues. Education has a lot to do with Sex/Gender views. Schools give
students Culture Messages that help continue to contribute to the way society runs. ...Cultural
messages that form our expectations and rules about gender determine the gendered experiences of
our bodies our embodied knowledge that these messages and our resulting gendered practices help to
shape our physical bodies as well (Crawley, Foley Shenan, p 28). They learn at school what is normal
and what is taboo. For example: Sports in middle/ high school are divided by sex. To many, this seems
a little unfair, since sports is something that is intended for all. A young female playing football is
taboo in society and many start making judgments in where she is too manly or not lady like. This is
seen pretty often all across the nation. Legally both sexes can play sports but society governs this
differently in where we will not see many female players playing football.
Society is ran by stereotypes. When applied to people, typification may be thought of by the more
familiar term stereotypes. Stereotyping is the use of common

Essay about Finding the Characters in The Crucible...
Finding the Characters in The Crucible Sympathetic
Arthur Miller s The Crucible , portrays the hysteria created in a paranoid society that is pent up with
vengeance and retribution, when
the balance within a community begins to turn towards greater individual freedom . When discussing
this play we must look at the audience s awareness of the parallels between the period when the play is
set and the time when it is written. The initial audience of the
1950 s would be aware of the paranoia in Salem and the persecution of people who value their morals.
However audiences today are aware of the double paranoia created by the clear parallels between the

Then under the care of her uncle,
Parris, during her employment at the Proctor s household, she fell in love and had an affair with John
Proctor. However her love was unrequited, despite misguided impressions that John loved her. These
dire events in Abigail s life led to her manipulative, selfish yet desperate nature and this nature is what
empowered Abigail to cry witch . Miller s portrayal of Abigail endears with her language displaying
hysteria, power, love, and the harsh reality of her childhood, all of which were factors empowering her
to impel the trials. These factors are demonstrated in both the dialogue and the stage directions
accompanying them. Abigail undoubtedly displays hysterical qualities, without them her imagination
alone could not have capacitated such a dramatic ploy. This is shown particularly in Act 3. For
example her being in genuine conversation with the bird , But god made my face; you cannot want to
tear my face. The stage directions often dictate that she is transfixed , open mouthed , frightened eyes
creating the sense that she truly believes what is happening to her.
Abigail is a powerful girl, clever and even manipulative . Her part in the trials is apparently
unsympathetic due to her adopted role as the leader of the girls i.e. the witnesses. This power is
demonstrated through her authoritative short, sharp, to the point sentences when addressing the girls,

The Effects Of Modified Early Warning Score
Most adverse events often are preceded by early warning signs indicating clinical deterioration. The
modified early warning score (MEWS) is a patient acuity scoring system that was developed to assist
clinical nurses with identifying clinical deterioration in a patient and when to initiate a rapid response
team call (Stewart et al., 2014). According to Rose et al., (2015) research suggests that before a
catastrophic event, signs and symptoms of clinical deterioration can be detected as early as 6 8hrs
prior to the event. In an effort to identify the subtle changes in a patient s condition, MEWS scoring is
being adopted by most hospitals. To help with the early recognition of clinical decline, members of the
multidisciplinary teams in acute care and emergency rooms track and score the physiologic parameters
such as blood pressure, respiratory rate, heart rate, temperature and neurological status (Urban et al.,
2015). The MEWS assigns a number between 0 and 3 to the five physiological categories obtained
from the patient based on MEWS score card. Each item on the score card has a weighted value and a
score of 0 as the ideal score. If one of the values falls into an abnormal range, it is given a score
depending on the deviation from the patient s norm (Urban et al., 2015). Individual scores from all
parameters are added up to give the total MEWS score. The higher the MEWS score the more unstable
a patient is. Several research studies indicate that the use of MEWS has aided in

Black Americans And The Black Freedom Struggle
Many have thought that the end of the civil war was also the end of the suppression against Black
Americans. However, real freedom hasn t been present to them. Discriminations against Black
Americans were transformed and still exist in other aspects. The life of a Black American was planned
before he or she was born, not much freedom in their hands. Black American experience disadvantage
and discrimination in many different institutions that all prove the existence of Neocolonialism. From
housing to education, formal and informal social controls prevented them from equality and freedom.
Moreover, Black youth was forced to be in the pipeline of incarceration from school, because of the
lack of resources and attention to them. In this ongoing fight for Black Freedom, many influential
Black leaders stepped up. One of them is one of the most important figures in the Black freedom
struggle history, Ella Baker. This essay will first, explain key issues on Black Americans freedom in
housing and school to prison pipeline, then identify Ella Baker s theory in the Black Freedom
Struggle, and finally define what freedom means. It s the American dream to own a house with
beautiful white fences and yard and live joyfully with families, but not many Black Americans can
live up to that dream. The hate and prejudice against Black American didn t reduce much since the end
of the civil war. I m not prejudice, but I d burn this building down before I d sell it to any damned

The Blessed Month Of Ramadan
The blessed month of Ramadan, the time when almost 2 billion muslims around the world are fasting
and attempting to do extra good. Fasting was obligated two years after the muslims migrated to
Medina from Mecca. In Mecca, the economic conditions for the muslims were bad, they were being
persecuted, and often would go days without food or water. It was already difficult enough for them to
find food, it wouldn t be possible for them to abstain from something they were in extreme need off.
After they migrated to Medina, it was like a sanctuary, they were greeted open heartedly, and many
were actually waiting for them to arrive. After they settled down, the verses of ramadan were revealed.
Many people may wonder why are muslims so excited about a month in which they abstain from
food? Who would look forward to something like that? In essence there is much more to ramadan than
just abstaining from food though out the day, it is also about learning self discipline, controlling your
temper, and building your character. It teaches a great amount of patience. Our prophet once said,
Whoever does not give up lying and evil action, God is not in need of his hunger. Not only is it about
purifying your body, also your mind and soul. It is also a chance to increase your good deeds such as
giving charity to the poor, and mending family relationships. As we go through the day in hunger and

Management is an information problem due to the fact that policymaking and training of securing

5. What is information extortion? Describe how such an attack can cause losses, using an example not
found in the text.
Information extortion happens when an insider or outsider gain information about an organization and
demands some form of compensation in exchange for the information. An example could be
something like a person creating a code to obtain information of how to enter a restricted part of the
network and having the ability to mask their identity and hide within the system. Using that info, a
person could sell the company an intrusion /detection or firewall software in exchange for the codes.
6. Why do employees constitute one of the greatest threats to information security?
The employees are considered the greatest threats due to the daily interaction of the company s data.
The employee can also forget to log off, send the data to people in email attachment to either inside or
outside the company as well as someone actually passing along passwords to access to the system. 7.
What measures can individuals take to protect against shoulder surfing?
A measure to take would be to install a screen filter to distort the view of the monitor as well as being

Internet Tracking
Electronic passage through the Internet leaves a trail that can be traced. Tracing is a process that
follows the Internet activity backwards, from the recipient to the user. As well, a user s Internet
activity on web sites can also be tracked on the recipient site i.e., what sites are visited and how often.
Sometimes this tracking and tracing ability is used to generate email to the user promoting a product
that is related to the sites visited. User information, however, can also be gathered covertly. This
leaves us wondering if tracking devices violates the user s privacy.

the web bugs wind up tracking surfers in areas online where banner ads are not present or on sites

That was the case last month when the White House ordered its drug policy office to stop using web

Analysis Of Didion s On Self Respect
In Didion s emotional yet dominant essay, On Self Respect, found in Slouching Towards Bethlehem,
she defines the true meaning of value to oneself, while indicating that reactions of weakness and
humiliation, based on the approval of bystanders, inhibits true acceptance. Her work was published in
1968 by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux to an American magazine Vogue, in a time when many intellectual
Americans believed they were standing at the dawn of the Golden Age. The emergence of The Human
Potential Movement, in the 1960s, would authorize full use of personal capacities, leading to self
actualization and fulfillment of pleasure. In today s society, many people find themselves
unsuccessful, according to the definition created by society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a result of this rejection, Didion developed the definition of self respect that we all accept, one
placing the opinion of others above her own. This personal and vulnerable memory included in the
essay marks a point in Didion s life where she encountered an unfair situation and began to struggle
with acceptance of self respect. Here, Didion dismisses the preconceived notion that she always held
full self respect for herself by labeling herself inferior to the sorority. Despite Didion s current
achievements for the popular Vanity Fair magazine, this personal anecdote shows failure, allowing
Didion to appeal to ethos and pathos. She does not intend for the audience to sympathize for her
shame, but to provide a personal example of the negative impact an ordinary individual can encounter
with the incorrect definition of self respect. Didion also displays credibility by re evaluating her own
level of self respect to relate with the audience as they develop this characteristic. Didion uses
inclusive pronouns such as, we and our, to once again highlight that she is relatable to the audience.
This allows for construction of Didion s character by displaying credibility by appearance of standard
individual, rather than a famous author and model. Didion s use of ethos allows her to present

The Mmr Vaccine Did Cause Autism
Although many people do not vaccinate for religious reasons, that does not mean they will be
protected by their close communities and close relationships and religion. Many outbreaks are
centraled in geographic areas and tight knit communities that have many people that share the same
values and beliefs. For example, in Texas, a megachurch voiced vaccination concerns and all believed
that it was not safe to vaccinate (Silverman, 2013). They were convinced that the MMR vaccine did
cause autism. There were many families that were part of the church that had a history of autism in
their family, and did not want to chance it. So instead of asking for a different schedule of vaccines
and not bundling the MMR, the families and others opted out of the MMR vaccine entirely
(Silverman, 2013). A visitor came to the church, after being in Indonesia, and, unknowingly, was
carrying measles. When people that had not been vaccinated were exposed, their bodies could not
fight it off and a breakout of measles overtook the church (Silverman, 2013). After that incident, the
church began holding seminars and conferences that explained the importance of vaccines and why
vaccines are safe, for their members. (Silverman, 2013) There are many personal reasons as to be
exempt from vaccinating. From religious, to your own concerns or reasoning, and many people are
now wanting more strict rules on exemptions of vaccines. There are now discussions concerning
parents of unvaccinated children, and

Plains Indians And Their Equine Companions
Plains Indians and Their Equine Companions Most history classes teach children about how the
Spanish brought horses to America and introduced them to Native Americans. That s usually the end
of the story. What s not talked about is the Native peoples reactions to these beasts of nature. How did
they feel about horses? What did they think of them? How did Native people become some of the best
riders? How did they tame wild horses? How were horses incorporated into their culture? How much
of an impact did horses really have on Native American culture? These are the questions that aren t

The differences between these two classifications of tribes is that the nomadic groups followed the

was livable in the plains, but it wasn t always the easiest. It wasn t until the arrival of the horse that
life and culture among the Plains Indians truly flourished. The story of how horses came to present
day USA has always been a very short story. The most we get is that the Spanish brought them, and
that was usually the end of it. How did Native people react when they first saw horses? How would
we react today if a brand new animal was introduced into America, and we knew nothing about it?
Some people may fear the animal or even try to destroy it out of fear. Just as we would be afraid today,
the same feelings of terror swept through the Native people of the Great Plains. In the islands of the

Intent and Motive in The Devil and Tom Walker and The Devil and Daniel Webster
Washington Irving, in writing The Devil and Tom Walker , and Stephen Vincent Benet, in writing The
Devil and Daniel Webster illustrate to the reader the consequences of man s desire for material wealth
and how a person s motivation for a relationship with the devil affects the outcome of the deal . In
these two different, yet surprisingly similar narratives, the authors present their beliefs about human
intent and motive.

When the devil shows Tom a tree for a greedy townsperson, he fails to see that he is very much like
that tree when he looked in the direction that the stranger pointed and beheld one of the great trees,
fair and flourishing without, but rotten at the core (130).
As time passes after Tom has made his deal with the devil, and he is working as a usurer in Boston,
squeezing every last cent out of the unlucky speculators that walked through his door, Tom begins to
wonder whether he made the right choice when he dealt with Old Scratch: He thought with regret on
the bargain he had made with his black friend, and set his wits to work to cheat him out of the
conditions (134). Tom s decision to attempt to cheat the devil becomes his downfall. Tom now begins
a routine of attending a Church service and praying loudly for everyone to hear, and he outfits himself
with two Bibles which he thinks will protect him to the end. In a great irony Irving tells of how Tom
will put down his Bible for a few minutes while he forecloses a mortgage of some poor borrower, and
the resumes his reading when he is finished. Stevens recognized this irony and noted that Irving has a
keen eye for the ironies and contradictions of human behavior. Irving presents the reader with the

The Media Of The Oil Spill Of 2010 From China, The United...
Modern culture thrives on news media as our primary source of information, but this creates an
information overload from all of the various perspectives in coverage. Media coverage is essential is
our development and understanding of international affairs. Therefore, the biases in coverage can have
drastic effects in our interpretation of world s news. Countries tend to present their news in a way that
favors them and their governmental responses, but coverage of other nations can be telling of their
relations. The use of word choice, tone, and even selective use of quotes can have drastic effects on
people s perceptions of the information from the media. This can be observed in the media analysis of
the Xingang Port oil spill of 2010 through news sources from China, the United States, and Ireland.
While some nuances of American news media still portray competition between the United States and
China, the portrayal of the oil spill proves that both countries are working toward improving relations
with each other.
The relationship between China and United States previous to the spill was pretty stable in regards to
oil and energy. But the United States was feeling increasingly frustrated with the Chinese trade policy
as they refused to revalue the Yuan. In 2010, China was both the second largest consumer and the
second largest importer of crude oil behind the United States (Hays). China had begun collecting oil
for its national oil reserve in 2004 and most of this oil is

The Roles Of Women In Ancient Greece, Rome, And Egypt
s history runs its course, there are certain topics that are always addressed such as religion, politics,
and societal structure. Also brought up is the role of women. During all periods of the world, women
are given their own category due to being treated differently than the men. Comparing the women of
ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt reveals the vast differences of people s views of women and the
disappointing similarities of being unjustly judged based on their gender. Each of these cultures puts
their women into positions that are degrade the skills of females, some more than others, and create
the societal barriers for women that last for many years after ancient times. A telling sign of how each
culture views their women is in the stories of their creation. The Romans, Egyptians, and Greeks all
had their own theories as to how humans were put on Earth. The Egyptians had three different creation
myths, all with different characteristics. The myth including Nun and Ptah do not include women, but
they also do not identify that it was men created first. These describe the creation of society, not a
society of men that was created and then women added along the way. The other creation myth from
Egypt includes the frog headed gods and snake headed goddesses such as Kek, Kauket; Heh, Hauhet.
Women were integrated into the formation of the culture which exhibits the view of women in Egypt.

Essay on Wuthering Heights Setting
Wuthering Heights: Change in Setting In the novel Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte, two isolated
houses are highlighted because of their contrast to each other. The atmosphere of the two houses share
similar characteristics as the characters that live inside and Bronte expresses throughout the novel that
one will change in a difference of setting, but one will never change completely. Thrushcross Grange
is a lovely manor that is located among the grassy fields of the Yorkshire Moor. The atmosphere of the
household is as refined as the occupants are. The moor has a calming atmosphere as well as beauty;
this defines the fundamental structure of the Linton s appearance. The Linton is a well known family

However, both Heathcliff and Catherine were able to escape their crude attitude and adopt a more
polished attitude by escaping from the depressed environment. Although Thrushcross Grange and
Wuthering Heights are very different, the two households share similarities as well. Thrushcross
Grange and Wuthering Heights are isolated from other people. The two houses are miles apart, and the
only common visitor is the doctor. As a result from the isolation, the two households relied on each
other for company. As each visit brought a part of the visitor s household s atmosphere, the
transformation of Catherine and Heathcliff deepened. The presence of Edgar Linton caused Catherine
to act more refines and mature, and Heathcliff became more controlled with his anger. However,
because of their settings each character fell into their pervious attitude. Heathcliff began to argue with
Catherine because she spends more time with Edgar instead of him, and Catherine aborted her
pretense of being a refined individual when Nelly refused to obey her orders. This recognize the fact
that although that a person can change, they cannot change completely. The setting is a very important
part of the novel because it has a tremendous amount of influence. The characters, the plot and the
audience s reaction are influenced the most. The
influence of setting was reflected in wuthering heights, by Emily Bronte. Bronte

nuclear substances being injected into the blood stream via an IV. The amount of Indium that is giving
is based on the patient and what the doctor feels as appropriate.
What is Indium you may ask?
Indium is an element. It has a classification name of metal. Indium was named for the Indigo line of
spectrum and came from the Latin word indicum. There are 23 different types of Indium isotopes
however only two are natural. Indium is also found in zinc, iron and lead. Indium is used for many

First the patient s blood is drawn usually mixed with a small amount of substance called Indium 111
isotope, also known as tagging. This test requires around 50 mls of blood. In the second part of the test
they inject the cells back into the patient s body through a vein. This is not a contrast.
The next day the patient is asked to return for a series of images using a gamma camera. This is a full
body scan. This test is done by a nuclear medicine technician. This part usually last between 60 to 90
minutes, this is the final stage of the test. In the case of an infection or abscess the tagged cells will

The test has been known to be giving on children in the case of inflammatory bowel disease so the test
does not discriminate against age. There have not been enough studies in the case of children and the

My Last Duchess By Robert Browning
My Last Duchess
The dramatic monologue My Last Duchess was penned down by Robert Browning. In this poem, the
narrator is the Duke of Ferrara, and the listener is the count s agent, through whom the Duke is
arranging the proposed marriage to a second duchess. The poem is ironical and reveals its rhetorical
sense, gradually. In the later part of the poem, the Duke claims that he does not have a skill in speech,
but his monologue is a masterpiece of subtle rhetoric. While supposedly entertaining the listener by
showing his wife s portrait, he clearly reveals his character. Through his formalized tone of rhyme, he
reveals his egoistic and jealous attitude.
The Duke takes control of the situation entirely as he is the only speaker throughout the poem and his
way of speaking leaves no scope for interruption, by the listener. The way he addresses his listener,
That s my last duchess , calls attention to the peculiarity of his designation which he indicates in a
very proud manner. The apparent pauses throughout the poem, shown by dashes, indicate hesitation as
the Duke considers what to say. This clearly suggests his manipulative attitude. As soon as he points
towards the standing portrait of his last wife, he asks his listener to sit down Will t please you sit and
look at her? His way of asking is not very polite and is more of a command which shows the
psychology of a man with power.
As he starts describing the portrait, he praises the painter Fra Pandolf, for

How Does Charles Darnay Affect The Character Of Sydney Carton
How has the introduction of Charles Darnay s character impacted Sydney Carton s perception of
himself ? (Are Carton s realizations shown publicly, reflecting his true nature?)
The introduction of Charles Darnay s character drastically affected Carton s mental state of character.
Besides realizing the fact that they look so much similar, Carton found himself unable to like Darnay s

change you have made in yourself! A good reason for taking to a man, that he shows you what you

exposed to in his life is this frequent state of being in the shadows. This is shown with Mr. Stryver

Just because blacks had fought in the Civil War did not suddenly mean that the perception of blacks had changed; rather to the Southern elites, they still viewed blacks as inferior and only good for labor, longing to perpetuate the slave system but within a new industrial framework seeing as how the agricultural framework had been destroyed. This new system was to be found in through convict leasing. With the end of reconstruction and a change power in the South, the nature of both crime and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Society does this in behind media, art, religion and specifically in education. Behind all of that, is how society tells and distributes information to children on how society runs and they way it Needs to be organized in order for society to work properly. With this being said, The Price Waterhouse v. Hopkins case brings a good issues in where many do keep silence in: Sex Discrimination and it is well hidden since society has a certain way to control gender rolls and other things. But how does this tie in with Education? Lot of schools have set systems in where they have to keep children separated on certain issues. Education has a lot to do with Sex/Gender views. Schools give students Culture Messages that help continue to contribute to the way society runs. ...Cultural messages that form our expectations and rules about gender determine the gendered experiences of our bodies our embodied knowledge that these messages and our resulting gendered practices help to shape our physical bodies as well (Crawley, Foley Shenan, p 28). The modified early warning score (MEWS) is a patient acuity scoring system that was developed to assist clinical nurses with identifying clinical deterioration in a patient and when to initiate a rapid response team call (Stewart et al., 2014). According to Rose et al., (2015) research suggests that before a catastrophic event, signs and symptoms of clinical deterioration can be detected as early as 6 8hrs prior to the event. In an effort to identify the subtle changes in a patient s condition, MEWS scoring is being adopted by most hospitals. To help with the early recognition of clinical decline, members of the multidisciplinary teams in acute care and emergency rooms track and score the physiologic parameters such as blood pressure, respiratory rate, heart rate, temperature and neurological status (Urban et al., 2015). The MEWS assigns a number between 0 and 3 to the five physiological categories obtained from the patient based on MEWS score card. Each item on the score card has a weighted value and a score of 0 as the ideal score. If one of the values falls into an abnormal range, it is given a score depending on the deviation from the patient s norm (Urban et al., 2015). Individual scores from all parameters are added up to give the total MEWS score. The higher the MEWS score the more unstable a patient is. Here, Didion dismisses the preconceived notion that she always held full self respect for herself by labeling herself inferior to the sorority. For example, in Texas, a megachurch voiced vaccination concerns and all believed that it was not safe to vaccinate (Silverman, 2013). They were convinced that the MMR vaccine did cause autism. There were many families that were part of the church that had a history of autism in their family, and did not want to chance it. With the semi sedentary groups, they too hunted for buffalo, but they also engaged in building villages and participating more in agriculture (New World Encyclopedia). Life was livable in the plains, but it wasn t always the easiest. It wasn t until the arrival of the horse that life and culture among the Plains Indians truly flourished. The story of how horses came to present day USA has always been a very short story. The most we get is that the Spanish brought them, and that was usually the end of it. How did Native people react when they first saw horses? How would we react today if a brand new animal was introduced into America, and we knew nothing about it? Some people may fear the animal or even try to destroy it out of fear. Just as we would be afraid today, the same feelings of terror swept through the Native people of the Great Plains. Intent and Motive in The Devil and Tom Walker and The Devil and Daniel Webster Washington Irving, in writing The Devil and Tom Walker , and Stephen Vincent Benet, in writing The Devil and Daniel Webster illustrate to the reader the consequences of man s desire for material wealth and how a person s motivation for a relationship with the devil affects the outcome of the deal . In these two different, yet surprisingly similar narratives, the authors present their beliefs about human intent and motive. When the devil shows Tom a tree for a greedy townsperson, he fails to see that he is very much like that tree when he looked in the direction that the stranger pointed and beheld one of the great trees, fair and flourishing without, but rotten at the core (130). As time passes after Tom has made his deal with the devil, and he is working as a usurer in Boston, squeezing every last cent out of the unlucky speculators that walked through his door, Tom begins to wonder whether he made the right choice when he dealt with Old Scratch: He thought with regret on the bargain he had made with his black friend, and set his wits to work to cheat him out of the conditions (134). Tom s decision to attempt to cheat the devil becomes his downfall. Tom now begins a routine of attending a Church service and praying loudly for everyone to hear, and he outfits himself with two Bibles which he thinks will protect him to the end. In a great irony Irving tells of how Tom will put down his Bible for a few minutes while he forecloses a mortgage of some poor borrower, and the resumes his reading when he is finished. Stevens recognized this irony and noted that Irving has a keen eye for the ironies and contradictions of human behavior. Modern culture thrives on news media as our primary source of information, but this creates an information overload from all of the various perspectives in coverage. Media coverage is essential is our development and understanding of international affairs. Therefore, the biases in coverage can have drastic effects in our interpretation of world s news. Countries tend to present their news in a way that favors them and their governmental responses, but coverage of other nations can be telling of their relations. The use of word choice, tone, and even selective use of quotes can have drastic effects on people s perceptions of the information from the media. This can be observed in the media analysis of the Xingang Port oil spill of 2010 through news sources from China, the United States, and Ireland. While some nuances of American news media still portray competition between the United States and China, the portrayal of the oil spill proves that both countries are working toward improving relations with each other. The relationship between China and United States previous to the spill was pretty stable in regards to oil and energy. But the United States was feeling increasingly frustrated with the Chinese trade policy as they refused to revalue the Yuan. In 2010, China was both the second largest consumer and the second largest importer of crude oil behind the United States (Hays). The two houses are miles apart, and the only common visitor is the doctor. As a result from the isolation, the two households relied on each other for company. As each visit brought a part of the visitor s household s atmosphere, the transformation of Catherine and Heathcliff deepened. The presence of Edgar Linton caused Catherine to act more refines and mature, and Heathcliff became more controlled with his anger. However, because of their settings each character fell into their pervious attitude. Heathcliff began to argue with Catherine because she spends more time with Edgar instead of him, and Catherine aborted her pretense of being a refined individual when Nelly refused to obey her orders. • 41. My Last Duchess By Robert Browning My Last Duchess The dramatic monologue My Last Duchess was penned down by Robert Browning. In this poem, the narrator is the Duke of Ferrara, and the listener is the count s agent, through whom the Duke is arranging the proposed marriage to a second duchess. The poem is ironical and reveals its rhetorical sense, gradually. In the later part of the poem, the Duke claims that he does not have a skill in speech, but his monologue is a masterpiece of subtle rhetoric. While supposedly entertaining the listener by showing his wife s portrait, he clearly reveals his character. Through his formalized tone of rhyme, he reveals his egoistic and jealous attitude. The Duke takes control of the situation entirely as he is the only speaker throughout the poem and his way of speaking leaves no scope for interruption, by the listener. The way he addresses his listener, That s my last duchess , calls attention to the peculiarity of his designation which he indicates in a very proud manner. The apparent pauses throughout the poem, shown by dashes, indicate hesitation as the Duke considers what to say. This clearly suggests his manipulative attitude. As soon as he points towards the standing portrait of his last wife, he asks his listener to sit down Will t please you sit and look at her? His way of asking is not very polite and is more of a command which shows the psychology of a man with power. As he starts describing the portrait, he praises the painter Fra Pandolf, for ...
