The Rights Of Guantanamo Bay
Guantanamo Bay was attained by Theodore Roosevelt in 1903, when he signed an agreement with the
Cuban government leasing the land in return for 2,000 gold coins a year. For years after the agreement
was signed, Guantanamo Bay was used as a naval base, as well as to spy on Communist Cuba in the
1930 s. In November of 1991, an overthrow of the Haitian government left thousands of Haitians
fleeing dictatorship. The Bush Administration announced that it would erect a tent shelter in order to
house thousands of these Haitian refugees in Guantanamo Bay. This shelter was surrounded by barbed
wire fences and guarded by armed U.S troops. This was the first step in the transformation of
Guantanamo Bay into the military controlled, high security ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Since these photos were released, two differing sides regarding Guantanamo Bay have emerged. Some
find it to be a place where brutality and illegality are rampant; and some find it to be a necessary evil
in order to protect the wellbeing of America. Currently, a military controlled prison still resides in
Guantanamo Bay housing nearly 200 individuals; and the debate regarding the fate of the operation
continues (Dziedzic). Guantanamo Bay detention center is an international embarrassment to our
nation, and to our ideals. To this day, Guantanamo Bay is a legal black hole; a place where United
States policy does not adhere to the rule of law Senator Patrick Leahy. The Supreme Court has ruled
on several occasions that the Bush Administration acted unlawfully in Guantanamo Bay, yet no action
was pursued against these individuals. We cannot forget that the Bush Administration stripped
detainees of basic rights that are given to any individual on American soil. This is why we must enact
a Truth Commission to investigate the actions of the Bush Administration in Guantanamo Bay; as
there is reason to believe that far more violations took place in Guantanamo Bay then we currently
know of. This Truth Commission will not look to press legal charges on any individual, but merely
seek answers. I believe that the

Banking(Lean)
Fundamentally, Lean is about eliminating waste. Some waste is unavoidable, but the objective is to
identify all activities that are non value added, and reduce as many as possible. General examples of
waste include over producing, waiting, defects/ rework, over processing, inventory, motion, and
transport. A few specific examples of waste sometimes found in financial services include: Rework
due to lost files or processing errors Over processing due to duplicate client records, or redundant data
entry requirements Movement due to physical dispersion of process participants Printing, copying,
and transporting of documents instead of transmitting/storing electronically Identifying, eliminating,

Communication is the most important step in change management. A bank needs to share a common
goal and set of expectations of value that the lean program will deliver. Teaching and coaching Lean
techniques to employees is a needed investment to sustain the Lean culture. The concept of the
internal client should also be introduced for non customer facing departments. This approach will
ensure a customer centered attitude at every level of the bank. Finally, Lean managers must spend
more time on the floor to observe and capture improvement ideas The case for Lean banking The
focus of Lean lies on building a client centered organization. Banks have always struggled to deliver
excellent customer experience due to processes that are not adapted to the customer s need. Moreover,
it is mostly a negative perception of the banking industry that hurts customer satisfaction. Lean
initiatives are rising rapidly in banking, yet their approach is still too much focused on reaching
operational excellence. A focus on the cultural aspects of Lean would ensure, in the first place, that the
entire organization is working together in improving its customer service, but more importantly, all
employees will be inspired to deliver continuously excellent customer service. Here is some of the
challenge in banking management and benefit of lean. Challenge | Benefit of Lean | Systems and

Famuos Thinker
Famous Thinkers Paper We shall overcome, we shall overcome, we shall overcome someday, deep in
my heart, I do believe, we shall overcome someday. These legendary words have been the foundation
for people of color since the long nights of captivity, slavery. Several prominent activists have made
immense strides in making those words a reality. Such individuals like James H. Cone and the
Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. James H. Cone, an advocate affectionately known for black
liberation theology, a theology grounded in the experience of African Americans, and related to other
Christian liberation theologies. James H. Cone approach provided a realistic snap shot of a new way to

James H. Cone, a black theologian of liberation who like all other black theologians was seeking
freedom and justice. Cone has a strong condemnation toward racism and oppression of black people,
especially within the black church. He strongly believed that religion is the solution to any problem.
Dutifully, Cone turned to scriptures as the sanction for his demands, not allowing anyone or anything
to separate him from the love of God. James H. Cone main objective was to resurrect himself and his
people from the ashes of racism by using the foundation of the Black Church [scriptures] and
confronting adversity. Dr. King tussled with the cares of life looking for solutions, concern for his
family, and stood up for righteousness, justice, and truth. Dr. King knew what he was up against was
daunting and knew enough to call on the name of Jesus. Dr. King believed in the power of prayer even
through the countless number of threats he received and even arrested he stood unyielding for what is
right, justice. Dr. King refused to sink in the quick sands of racism and abhorrence. Dr. King realized
that he had to alter the mindset of society if change was to come. These two famous thinkers were
mindful of the test and misery they would face. Their work addresses the advancement for minority
people with the hope and promise to expunge racism among all people. During these historical
moments one could only imagine that the most important audience

Two specific advertising methods used are called Performance advertising and Brand advertising.
Performance advertising delivers relevant, text based, advertisements that users click on in order to
directly engage with the advertiser. This is done though an auction based advertising program called
AdWord. Through this method clients (the advertisers) pay Google in a cost per click base. In other
words, it recognizes revenue every time, and only if, a Google user clicks on a client s advertisement.
On the other hand Brand advertising uses videos, text images etc. which runs through different devices
and reaches specific audiences. With this method, which seeks to promote brand recognition, revenues
are recognized through cost per impression basis. The cost per impression approach means that the
client is billed based on the number of times their ads display on Google websites and Network
Members websites. (Investor, 50)
Other revenue generators include but are not limited to the sales of Telecommunication Equipment
such as android cellular phones. Google either sells these devices directly to customers through a
website or it sells through distributors. In both cases revenues are recognized when the device has
shipped, risk of loss has transferred to the customer, objective evidence exists that customer
acceptance provisions have been met, no significant obligations remain and

After all this information on parody and satire, the question still remains, can SNL be sued for their
comedy sketches? Since one cannot directly attack head on parody and satire, it is important to look
around the situation. What is it about the parody that can affect a person: defamation. Defamation is
defined as any communication that holds a person up to contempt, hatred, ridicule or scorn and lowers
the reputation of the individuals defamed (Pember and Calvert). This was a big factor in Hustler

The argument is on Cohabitation and how it became an alternative to marriage
Claim: Cohabitation is a devastating social phenomenon since it is increasing in no time, the issue that
creates a whole new culture where there is no respect to marriage , no real commitment , and no
regard to our traditional bonds.
I. Cohabitation has become a substitution to marriage for people

We come to conclusion that people who have faith and belong to a certain church have an optimistic
attitude toward marriage , and have respect to this sacred event.( Manting,1996, p.58).
Apart from the individual himself having his own faith toward this sacred event, mothers have
animmense effect on their children concerning cohabitation. Mothers were asked about their
involvement in religious services around the year 1980 , and how vital religion is to them(Thornton, et
al., 1992, p.634). The results that were given obviously show that mother who attend services and are
very religious diminish the cohabitation rate , it varies from 13 % to 16 % (Thornton, et al., 1992,
p.639).
Overall, it is expected that people who attend religious services and value religion in their life are
more likely to shift toward real commitment and marriage rather than living together (Thornton, et al.,
1992, p.631). God considers marriage as a sacred thing between two people who are in love. People
nowadays don t believe in what God told us to do, and they let go of this sacred event only to satisfy
their own needs and

Weavetech Case Summary
Downsizing or layoffs at a company, whether it is in WeaveTech or any other company have its legal
risks that are associated with the exercise. The potential legal risks associated with the downsizing
situation would be discrimination, such as how to select the employees that will be laid off (Benn,
Dunphy, Griffiths, 2014). This could bring about discrimination claims as some of the employees may
argue that they were terminated because of their gender, age, race among others. Also, there could be
legal issues if the WeaveTech did not give a sixty day notice since it has more than a hundred

Term Life Insurance Policy
When you decide to purchase a term or a whole life insurance policy, the type you choose should be
based on the financial needs of your family. Although both life insurance policies provide a payout if

are major distinctions between two types. The team at Davies Barry Insurance, in Juneau, AK,

Term Life Insurance
Term life insurance provides coverage for a set time period, most commonly 10, 20, or 30 years. It is a

Mrs. Dalloway And The Good Soldier
Mrs. Dalloway/ The Good Soldier The Good Soldier and Mrs. Dalloway have many similarities, one
being both of the main characters belong to the upper class. But they have one major difference, The
Good Soldier only has one point of view, while Mrs. Dalloway has many different points of views
during the novel. In The Good Soldier, the story is only told through John Dowell s perspective, so
only his view is seen throughout the novel. He does not truly know how the other characters are

John also did not know how Florence was feeling before her suicide. He waited to help her when she
called for help, which was one of the first times that he had waited and only of the only times that she
actually needed him, as she was committing suicide. He was also worried when he saw Florence run
up the stairs, as she could not run because of her heart condition. Nonetheless, John did not
immediately run and help Florence, he waited his time and that cost Florence her life. John did not
realize at first that she had committed suicide, he had thought it was an accidental death until Leonora
told him that it had been a suicide. John expressed how he felt from her death, but did not mention
how Leonora, who was friends with Florence, or Edward, who was having an affair with Florence felt
after her suicide. John had not mentioned it nor did he mention a conversation between him and
Leonora or Edward on the suicide, as afterwards he went to the United States to handle her estate.
Afterward, John does not share how Leonora or Nancy truly felt of Edward s suicide. It can be
inferred how Nancy felt based off of her current mental state but he did not know how Leonora felt
from her husband s suicide.
Mrs. Dalloway mentions many points of views. During the summer at Bourton, it shows both Clarissa

The Most Controversial Form Of Classroom Discipline
As centuries have progressed, there have been many different opinions regarding classroom discipline
and how to achieve the optimal learning environment. Teachers have individually found their comfort
zones regarding the form of discipline that they enforce in their classroom. The most controversial
form of disciplinary action throughout history is corporal punishment, such as paddling or hitting
hands. Other forms of discipline typically used have been writing off , public shaming, and
suspension. It is now believed that Student Oriented Discipline is most beneficial for the student, the
teacher, and other classmates.
By 1910, it was mandated that children attend public schools. At this point, teachers began assuming
disciplinary roles since students were spending most of their day at school. It was believed that they,
along with parents, were responsible for raising moral beings. The court systems had begun to
separate adult and juvenile punishments and believed that children should be rehabilitated, not
physically punished.
In the beginning of the 20th century, the idea was that children should sit in the classroom and the
teacher would transfer his or her knowledge to them. Strict discipline was a part of this classroom
control. Acceptable forms of disciplinary action were paddlings. Judith Kafka, a professor and author,
stated that A lot of reformers... who said this is not any way to raise moral beings and we should not

Despite the numerous hand injuries occurring each year, 70% of workers aren t wearing hand
protection, while another 30 aren t wearing the right gloves (17). A glove from one firm may not have
the same chemical resistance as a glove that appears to be an identical glove made by another firm
(12). There are many variations of gloves available today to protect from hazards, however nature of
hazard and the operation will have an impact on the selection of the gloves (10). OSHA s hand
protection guideline indicates some factors that impact the selection of protective gloves used in a
workplace: types of chemicals handled, nature and duration of contact, area requiring protection (hand
only, forearm, arm), grip requirements, thermal protection, size and comfort and abrasion/resistance
requirements (10). In some instances, companies tend to adapt a technique called double gloving
which is the overlapping of two pairs of gloves, one over the other (12). When worn, it affords a
double layer of protection (12). If the outer glove starts to degrade or tears open, the inner glove
continues to offer protection until the gloves are removed and replaced (12). This technique isn t the

stagnation, which occurs during middle adulthood. While some adults find their life s work and assist
in the development of others through mentoring, volunteering, or beginning a family, some adults
struggle with having a minimal connection with others and a small interest in productivity and self

those who feel proud of their achievements have a sense of integrity, reflecting with minimum regrets.
This is different than those who feel they are unsuccessful at this stage because they consider their life

white school mostly made up of segregationists. Throughout the next year, the main character, Melba
Pattillo Beals, in her memoir, Warriors Don t Cry , shows her difficult adventure in Central High,
trying to survive from the malicious segregationists. Beals uses different forms of figurative

Melba Pattillo Beals uses verbal irony to symbolize the significance of integration. As Mrs. Bates

Closely Watching Milos
Closely Watched Trains was directed by Jiří Menzel in Czechoslovakia in 1966. Telling the story of a
boy who obtains a job at the local railroad stop as a station guard, the movie shows the experience of
Milos as he explores sexuality and growing up.The film shows Milos before he gains his manhood as
weak, unintelligent, and isolated from the other men. Using techniques such as cross cutting and low
angles, the director is able to show how after losing his virginity, Milos is no longer foolish and
innocent and his newfound manhood causes him to have the qualities that parallel what is respected by
the Soviet community, such as intelligence and confidence allowing him to blow up a Nazi train and
become a hero. Throughout the majority of the film, Milos is depicted as a simple, fragile teen. The
film opens with a scene in which his mother is dressing his for his first day of work. The director pans
from his feet to his head, ending with a close up shot so we can see the entirety of Milos and his
nerves on his face as he heads into work. When he gets to work and sits at a desk, the filmmaker uses
jump cuts to show different actions going on around the room and then cuts to Milos looking around.
This shows the audience how Milos is innocent and daydreaming as opposed to doing the work he
should be doing. He seems childlike and foolish as he can not maintain focus on his work. As the film
progresses, the director employs cross cutting many times which shows Milos

Twelfth Night Analysis
One reason why Twelfth Night reinforces the class system is because of the representation of
satisfying the audience to please them. In the 16th century, audiences looked for comedy as an option
for entertainment. Twelfth Night brought upon these amuses through the use of Sir Toby and Maria.
The play created chaos by mixing up the classes and putting the wrong people together. Maria is
Olivia lady in waiting while Sir Toby is one of Olivia s kinsman who by the end of the play end up
together. At the moment since Maria is waiting for her rank she does not have a title and she picked
the man to be wedded to. Usually, the countess picks a suitable man for her ladies to be married to,
allowing for little progression to be made. Readers and critics assume since Sir Toby is drunk for
every hour of the day his title of being a knight does not really define who he is and is acceptable for
him to end up with anyone he pleases to. From Rethinking Sexuality and Class in Twelfth Night.
author Nancy Lindheim writes, It offers a reason other than cynicism or folly for his [Sir Toby]
marrying Maria: who could be more suitable for him than as witty a piece of Eve s flesh as any in
Illyria (1.5.27)?...Sir Toby s circumstances, intelligence, and wit might then encourage us to think that
it can happen . More specifically, Lindheim means that the play does show little hope on the change of
the social class system since Sir Toby was looking for somebody with wit and not just beauty. This

On the fifth of February, I went to my church, Villa Rica Christian Church. In my church, there is a
nursery for kids ranging from birth to two. The first toy was a rectangular box that has shaped holes
on the lid. On the lid, there are four shapes triangle, square, star, and circle. The second toy, is a panel
with four different popups of Sesame Street characters. To trigger the popup, a kid has to either turn,
press, or push a button. The third toy is a child like abacus with five rows of beads that vary by colors
red, yellow, blue, green, and orange.
In the nursery, I examined toys aimed at the sensorimotor stage of cognitive development. This stage
includes actions based on reflexes and the transition to actions based on intentions. Actions that are
satisfying are repeated by the child through a process called primary circular reactions. Soon after this
first stage, the child moves on to the secondary circular reactions or actions that have an effect on the
environment. After experiencing both of these kind of reactions, the child then advances into more
intentional actions. The child begins to have goal directed behavior and curiosity which leads to
experimenting. Lastly, the child will begin to understand symbolic problem solving and object
permanence.
The first toy has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

frustration may motivate some kids to continue or cause the majority to abandon the toy. Most
importantly, toys need to provide an avenue through which the child can become exposed or practice

practice primary, secondary, and tertiary circular reactions, as well as goal directed behavior and

Comparison Of The Human Rights Act 1998 And Tort Law
The Human Rights Act 1998 and Tort Law are seen to be together in overlapping ways as François du
Bois explains. In this essay we will begin by looking at the introduction of the Human Rights Act, and
the claims in negligence against public authorities. Then we will look at the different views as to the
remedies, whether Tort law and the Human Rights Act, should be used together and developed
together, or should be used separately in a claim in negligence against a public authority.
The introduction of the Human Rights Act 1998, as Oliphant and Lunney describes it creates a new
statutory remedy against public authorities for violating of the specified Convention rights . Section 7
of the act requires that any individual that brings a claim against public authorities must be a victim. A
victim under the Human Rights Act refers to the person who could bring a case under the ECHR.
Victims must be directly affected or be at risk of being directly affected by the act in questions.
Victims can include...relatives of the victim where a complaint is made about death. . An example of
this would be the case of Rabone v Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust in which Melanie had in the
past attempted to commit suicide on several occasions. After the most recent attempt she was admitted
to the hospital where they observed and tested her. Two days after, she was released for two days
home visit despite her tests indicating her being at high risk of attempting suicide again, which is

Vladimir Putin, The Most Hated Man Of His Time
Vladimir Putin, who is the president of Russia, the man that is held responsible for tearing Ukraine
apart into a battlefield. The eastern region of Ukraine withheld a city (Crimea), which became the
headlines of all western and global war for its significant role in the Ukrainian Russian Conflict. This
was due to the city that was being fought over by the two countries. As Russia s president, Vladimir
Putin was bashed by the world for being the new modern Hitler; which Hilary Clinton had compared
Putin s strategical methods on this crisis to. She compared it to the similar Nazi s of 1930; which she
had said in her speech at the University of California. Although, no one can really understand why
Vladimir Putin was the most hated man of his time. Later it became evident that it was because of the
propaganda that was created by the western media and news. We must really think the fundamentals
as to why Putin really entered Crimea, and who really is behind the new regime that has settled in
Ukraine as well as which part of the world is standing behind Ukraine. Former President Viktor
Yankovich made a phone call to Vladimir Putin seeking help. He had called while he was in hiding
fleeing to Russia right after that conversation, around a two years ago shortly after over a 100 people
were killed in a 48 hour protest. He fled his own country for his own safety. The fact that he fled as
president to a neighboring countryRussia, shows just what type of situation this man was left

Organized Religion Exposed in Richard Wright s Native Son
If the United States were to adopt a Communist government, it would be a better country. If
Americans were to dispose of religion, they would be content people. If Richard Wright were to
complete an assignment regarding the context of his novel, Native Son, the aforementioned arguments
would be his focus. Wright, like all Marxists, believes that religion is the opiate of the masses,
providing a surreal dream world with negative side effects. The representation of organized religion in
Native Son supports Wright s highly atheistic, Communistic views and his aspirations for the United
States. By negatively using conventional religious symbols, such as the cross, prayer, God, ... Show

Although Bigger s character refutes the concept of religion, Wright compares him to a struggling Jesus
Christ throughout the novel; society is to learn from Bigger s example that capitalism is the core evil
of the country, just as Christians look to Christ to delineate between sin and salvation. Bigger s
interactions with the Daltons mirror those of Jesus throughout the Stations of the Cross. Bigger s
initial visit to the Dalton home foreshadows his death because the setting mimics that of the
crucifixion; all at once...the sky [turns] black (48), as it does while Jesus hangs upon the cross on
Good Friday. When Bigger first visits the Dalton home, he slip[s] back (51) into his chair, just as Jesus
falls while carrying his cross to Mount Calvary; this scene represents the persecution in store for
Bigger by those families who, like the Daltons, consider themselves religious. Even during the murder
and burning of the body of Mary Dalton, Bigger s actions parallel Christ s. Similar to Christ s struggle
with the cross upon his back, Bigger stoop[s] and ca[tches] the strap of Mary s trunk and carrie[s] it
downstairs (103) with her body inside, and the murder of Mary becomes Bigger s cross, upon which
he is executed.
Similarly, prayer reappears within Native Son in order to prove the unimportance of God and the
ineffectiveness of belief. The rat remains dead

Romanov Dynasty In Russia
Animal Farm is a novel that is an allegory for the Russian Revolution. For 300 years the Romanov
dynasty ruled Russia, it was supported by conservatism peasants, the secret police, the church and the
army. A dynasty with that much support and power shouldn t be able to fall so easily. So what exactly
caused the powerful regime to fall? It was mainly what supported the Romanov dynasty; farming
peasants, the church, and the army. In the books of history countries and communities that cannot
adapt, and change into new modern thinking, tend to fail. This is what happened to Russia. New ideas

Hamlet and Rosencrantx and Guildenstern Are Dead
Compare and contrast the ways in which the two plays Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are
Dead reflect the values of the contexts in which they were written.
The plays Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard and Hamlet by William
Shakespeare were composed in vastly different contexts and the nature of the plays greatly reflect the
context in which they were composed. Hamlet is clearly a product of the times of the early 17th
century as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is a product of the Swinging Sixties as it has very
modern views on many issues that have been raised throughout time.

This unrest is expressed from early in the play with lines such as There s something rotten in the state

Every character is clearly defined in Shakespeare s play and nobody is confused about who they are or
where they came from. The opposite of this, however, is Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in the sixties
interpretation of the text. They seem to be very confused about their own personal identity and this can
be seen frequently throughout the play when they and other characters mix their names up almost
every time. The effect of this is humorous, but also comments on the confusion of identity that was
being felt in the Sixties. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as characters very much reflect the ideas of the
Sixties in this way, as they seem to be drifting throughout the play as observers, and are minor players.
They are not sure about themselves, question their own identity and cannot find much purpose in their
lives, which makes death difficult for them to comprehend. Because they are such minor players and
tend not to take themselves as seriously as the traditional characters such as Hamlet himself, they can
easily bring Hamlet down to a human level. They did this in the play when they quickly flattened
Hamlet s wit. In all these respects it is plain to see how the sixties version of the play reflected the
context in which it was composed.
What makes the contrast between the two plays so

Socialising On The Internet
Using the internet to socialise is an increasingly popular activity. Some of the most popular websites

The Three Approachs Of The Three Theories Of Communication
1. Though persuasion skills seem intangible and only possessed by a few lucky individuals, they can
actually be broken down into techniques. Three of these approaches, the principles of liking, authority,
and social proof, can be explained by three theories of communication. Elaboration Likelihood Theory
states that when one processes a message critically, through the central route, it is more likely for that
message to change one s belief and behavior, whereas if the message is processed superficially,
through the peripheral route, there will only be a short term attitude modification. There is a higher
level of elaboration, or the degree to which a person assesses a piece of information closely, when the
person feels fondly towards the persuader because people have a higher likelihood of paying attention
to individuals they like. They are more likely to comply and wish to please. Theory of Reasoned
Action explains that the manner in which one acts is affected by one s attitude about the behavior, in
addition to one s beliefs about subjective norms (how other people want one to act). The principle of
authority works with this theory because people are more likely to obey and believe someone who has
power over them. Experts are believed because they have more information than the person, and can
morph the subjective norm, as well as an individual s own attitude about a behavior. Cognitive
Dissonance refers to when different cognitive components are inharmonious and

Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp Essay
Torture, being defined by the 1984 Convention Against Torture is the cruel, inhumane, or degrading
infliction of severe pain or suffering, physical or mental, on a prisoner to obtain information or a
confession, or to mete out a punishment for a suspected crime (Beehner), is condemned and
considered illegal by the United States of America and carries severe punishment for those that carry
out the act. Yet the numerous amounts of maltreatment of the detainees held by the US during the War
on Terror has led to humanitarian interference and, more notably, concern from the United Nations
assembly. The most prominent facility in which these detainees are being held is the Guantanamo Bay
Detention Camp, a site used for indefinite detention (mostly without trial), yet other secret prisons

purposes.

World War I, also known as the first World War, or the Great War, was a global war originating in
Europe the began on the 28th of July 1914 and lasted until the 11th of November 1918. World War I
was a war that was fought between two sides with a few of the World s greatest Nations of that time.

Research Paper On Groundhog
All Eyes on the Groundhog After a long hard winter most, people are looking forward to spring.
Spring brings about new life, budding trees and flowers, birds singing and butterflies flying.
Predicting the end of winter and the beginning of spring has been a long time favorite ritual for many
people. Groundhog Day has been around for centuries. The tradition stems from earlier traditions and
crosses many different cultures. Groundhog Day remains very popular today.
Initially, thousands of years ago people in Europe looked to the badger for the prediction of the arrival
of spring. They watched the badger to determine when to plant their crops. However, since badgers
were scarce in Pennsylvania, the groundhog took over this duty. Tradition holds that if the groundhog
sees his shadow on February 2nd it will be scared and return to its burrow, signaling that there will be
six more weeks of winter. If his shadow is not seen then spring is on its way (Groundhog). The famous
Punxsutawney Phil, gets his name from the Indian name for the location ponksad uteney which means
the town of sandflies (Groundhog 1017).
Prior to Groundhog Day German settlers, performed the tradition of Candlemas Day (Groundhog

cold days of winter, the people placed a lighted candle in each window of their home (Groundhog

Taking a Look at Writs of Habeas Corpus
September 11th was a day that was burned into the conscience of the American identity. The response
of the Bush Administration was to launch a full scale military operation against terrorist entities, in
particular Al Qaeda and their foreign supporters. This series of operations, became what was to be
known as the Global War on Terror . Subsequently, the invasion of Afghanistan and other military
operations resulted in the capture of high value targets with known connections to terrorist
organizations. While these events this had dramatic ramifications on geo political landscape, American
courts were also given the unenviable task of determining if those captured by the U.S government
were entitled to the rights and privileges enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. The Supreme Court in
particular faced a particular set of problems in confronting this issue. Precedent on the matter had been
established over fifty years earlier under far different circumstances that were unable to reflect today s
modern challenges. Secondly, the Court needed to determine whether they had the jurisdictional
authority to accept writs of habeas corpus from detainees held in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. Historically,
Lincoln s unilateral suspension of habeas corpus during the Civil War was the first instance in which
the courts had a chance to review the indefinite detention of citizens of the United States. The

Attachment In Harry Harlow s Experiments
Do humans think of their parents as warm and comfortable when they look at them? Harry Harlow s
experiment with infant monkeys put this idea to the test to see if humans do rely on the importance of
warm contact (king,2017), or if it is simply the emotion of loving someone. Many of the existing
theories of love centered on the idea that the earliest attachment between a mother and child was
merely a means for the child to obtain food, relieve thirst, and avoid pain (Cherry,2017). This
experiment all comes back to attachment, which is when someone or something will start developing a
bonding connection with their caregiver. Harlow s experiments correlate with my past experiences
whereby I formed a beneficial attachment by warmth, which is the feeling of being safe and loved.
Harlow s experiment started when the monkeys were separated at birth from their mother (Green,
N.D.). Therefore, the monkeys had no idea who their actual mother was when the experiment was
starting. The monkeys were put in separate cages and half of them were put with a cold wire mother
and the other was a warm, fuzzy cloth mother (King,2017). The infant monkeys were being fed by

An Exploration of Genes and Inheritance Essay
An Exploration of Genes and Inheritance
One of the first questions people ask when someone in their family is diagnosed with diabetes is
whether or not their other family members will get diabetes. So it s no surprise that research into the
question of inheritance was among the earliest aspects of diabetes to be funded by Diabets UK back in
the early 1950s. Genes can be described as the set of biological instructions we inherit from our
parents. These instructions will determine how our bodies look and work and how they react to the
environment. Since the 1950s, our understanding of the role played by inheritance in chronic
conditions such as diabetes has been radically transformed by the ... Show more content on

To make proteins, parts of the DNA double helix unzip, leaving the chemical bases along the helix
unpaired. These single bases then pair up with other chemical bases within the cell to produce new
versions of the DNA, called RNA. This RNA can travel out of the nucleus and into the main body of
the cell, where it organises amino acids into the correct order to produce particular proteins. This is the
process underlying the way we grow, and the way our bodies respond to the world around us how we
digest food, how we produce energy and so on.
The benefit of genetic research
New technology has sped up the search for new genes enormously. Even so, checking each possible
gene region takes several months. The process is painstaking and the possibility of gene therapy the
holy grail of genetic research, by which defective genes might eventually be corrected still lies some
way in the future. In the meantime, exploring the genetic causes of diabetes is increasing our
understanding of how the condition arises and opens up new avenues of research to possible therapies.
Diabetes UK is also funding research investigating possible links between genes and susceptibility to
diabetic complications. For some, genetic research into diabetes has already had important
consequences for their diabetes. The discovery of the genes for the rare monogenic

Lakeland Regional Health was number one in America for the most Emergency Room visits March
2015 2016, even so they re direct on average 260 uninsured and Medicaid patients a month to their
Family Health Clinic for non emergent care. The Affordable Care Act, though providing insurance
benefits to many who could not afford insurance in the past, has not changed the quantity of patients
utilizing the emergency room for primary care mostly due to the overwhelming need for more clinics
that accept Medicaid, Share of Cost, and the uninsured.(2) Patients have often commented that it is
cheaper to pay the penalty on their taxes each year over applying for the ACA insurance. The
deductible and out of pocket for the insurance generally matches but the limits are often well above
what the patient can afford to pay, and insurance does not pay until they have met that deductible
amount. The question is not about providing care to the patients that arrive in the emergency room, but
to offer a screening process to ensure that the emergency room is available for true emergencies, and
that the safety of patients are considered and the delay of care is as short as possible.
Lakeland Regional Health opened a Family Health Clinic in 2012 for patients who need primary care,
rather than emergency department treatment, but whose lack of insurance has given them few options
to choose from.(1) The clinic also offers follow up care for patients discharged from the hospital that

emphasis of the king as a war hero, king viewed as a liberator of cities and the development of
diplomatic relations with the cities that are being governed by the kings.1 Strootman looks at three
kingdoms to explain how the kingdoms in this empire function, they are the Ptolemies, Antigonids,
and the Seleukids. In these empires, Strootman explains how the kingdoms were mostly nomadic, in
the way that the court would constantly move around and follow the king where ever he went.2 So

Kingdoms in this era were subject to imperial claims (other than by the emperor), making the role of
emperor not absolute and in constant struggle to maintain control over, through negotiations or
confrontations.5
In this book, Strootman elaborates on how there are two essential diagrams for exposing political
assertiveness during the Hellenistic period shedding light on the function of imperialism, the first
describes the court as a political structure used to assert power but this idea is rivaled with the
importance of the theater and the important role it played in to support the role of the king and his
court against the courts of others. The other is describing capital and cities as tools of a power play
made by those of power (the king and his courtiers).6 These arguments as Strootman exposes to the
reader that based off of the ideas of Norbert Elias, Jurgen von Kruedener and Charles Tilly, we are
able to better understand the function of court during this era.7 Kruedener as mentioned by Strootman
explains how the role of favor with the king was vital to the attainment of power within the kingdom,
disbursement of land holdings, duties of offices and this was all done through exposure before the
king through the instrument of court. Although the king and his court

savings alone more than justify the potential extra outlay or occasional graphics card upgrade. For the

  • 2. The Rights Of Guantanamo Bay Guantanamo Bay was attained by Theodore Roosevelt in 1903, when he signed an agreement with the Cuban government leasing the land in return for 2,000 gold coins a year. For years after the agreement was signed, Guantanamo Bay was used as a naval base, as well as to spy on Communist Cuba in the 1930 s. In November of 1991, an overthrow of the Haitian government left thousands of Haitians fleeing dictatorship. The Bush Administration announced that it would erect a tent shelter in order to house thousands of these Haitian refugees in Guantanamo Bay. This shelter was surrounded by barbed wire fences and guarded by armed U.S troops. This was the first step in the transformation of Guantanamo Bay into the military controlled, high security ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since these photos were released, two differing sides regarding Guantanamo Bay have emerged. Some find it to be a place where brutality and illegality are rampant; and some find it to be a necessary evil in order to protect the wellbeing of America. Currently, a military controlled prison still resides in Guantanamo Bay housing nearly 200 individuals; and the debate regarding the fate of the operation continues (Dziedzic). Guantanamo Bay detention center is an international embarrassment to our nation, and to our ideals. To this day, Guantanamo Bay is a legal black hole; a place where United States policy does not adhere to the rule of law Senator Patrick Leahy. The Supreme Court has ruled on several occasions that the Bush Administration acted unlawfully in Guantanamo Bay, yet no action was pursued against these individuals. We cannot forget that the Bush Administration stripped detainees of basic rights that are given to any individual on American soil. This is why we must enact a Truth Commission to investigate the actions of the Bush Administration in Guantanamo Bay; as there is reason to believe that far more violations took place in Guantanamo Bay then we currently know of. This Truth Commission will not look to press legal charges on any individual, but merely seek answers. I believe that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Banking(Lean) Fundamentally, Lean is about eliminating waste. Some waste is unavoidable, but the objective is to identify all activities that are non value added, and reduce as many as possible. General examples of waste include over producing, waiting, defects/ rework, over processing, inventory, motion, and transport. A few specific examples of waste sometimes found in financial services include: Rework due to lost files or processing errors Over processing due to duplicate client records, or redundant data entry requirements Movement due to physical dispersion of process participants Printing, copying, and transporting of documents instead of transmitting/storing electronically Identifying, eliminating, or reducing such waste will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Communication is the most important step in change management. A bank needs to share a common goal and set of expectations of value that the lean program will deliver. Teaching and coaching Lean techniques to employees is a needed investment to sustain the Lean culture. The concept of the internal client should also be introduced for non customer facing departments. This approach will ensure a customer centered attitude at every level of the bank. Finally, Lean managers must spend more time on the floor to observe and capture improvement ideas The case for Lean banking The focus of Lean lies on building a client centered organization. Banks have always struggled to deliver excellent customer experience due to processes that are not adapted to the customer s need. Moreover, it is mostly a negative perception of the banking industry that hurts customer satisfaction. Lean initiatives are rising rapidly in banking, yet their approach is still too much focused on reaching operational excellence. A focus on the cultural aspects of Lean would ensure, in the first place, that the entire organization is working together in improving its customer service, but more importantly, all employees will be inspired to deliver continuously excellent customer service. Here is some of the challenge in banking management and benefit of lean. Challenge | Benefit of Lean | Systems and Management ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These legendary words have been the foundation for people of color since the long nights of captivity, slavery. Several prominent activists have made immense strides in making those words a reality. Such individuals like James H. Cone and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. James H. Cone, a black theologian of liberation who like all other black theologians was seeking freedom and justice. Cone has a strong condemnation toward racism and oppression of black people, especially within the black church. He strongly believed that religion is the solution to any problem. Dutifully, Cone turned to scriptures as the sanction for his demands, not allowing anyone or anything to separate him from the love of God. James H. Cone main objective was to resurrect himself and his people from the ashes of racism by using the foundation of the Black Church [scriptures] and confronting adversity. Dr. King tussled with the cares of life looking for solutions, concern for his family, and stood up for righteousness, justice, and truth. Dr. King knew what he was up against was daunting and knew enough to call on the name of Jesus. Dr. King believed in the power of prayer even through the countless number of threats he received and even arrested he stood unyielding for what is right, justice. Dr. King refused to sink in the quick sands of racism and abhorrence. Dr. King realized that he had to alter the mindset of society if change was to come. These two famous thinkers were mindful of the test and misery they would face. Their work addresses the advancement for minority people with the hope and promise to expunge racism among all people. Teachers have individually found their comfort zones regarding the form of discipline that they enforce in their classroom. The most controversial form of disciplinary action throughout history is corporal punishment, such as paddling or hitting hands. Other forms of discipline typically used have been writing off , public shaming, and suspension. It is now believed that Student Oriented Discipline is most beneficial for the student, the teacher, and other classmates. By 1910, it was mandated that children attend public schools. At this point, teachers began assuming disciplinary roles since students were spending most of their day at school. It was believed that they, along with parents, were responsible for raising moral beings. The court systems had begun to separate adult and juvenile punishments and believed that children should be rehabilitated, not physically punished. In the beginning of the 20th century, the idea was that children should sit in the classroom and the teacher would transfer his or her knowledge to them. Strict discipline was a part of this classroom control. Acceptable forms of disciplinary action were paddlings. Telling the story of a boy who obtains a job at the local railroad stop as a station guard, the movie shows the experience of Milos as he explores sexuality and growing up.The film shows Milos before he gains his manhood as weak, unintelligent, and isolated from the other men. Using techniques such as cross cutting and low angles, the director is able to show how after losing his virginity, Milos is no longer foolish and innocent and his newfound manhood causes him to have the qualities that parallel what is respected by the Soviet community, such as intelligence and confidence allowing him to blow up a Nazi train and become a hero. Throughout the majority of the film, Milos is depicted as a simple, fragile teen. The film opens with a scene in which his mother is dressing his for his first day of work. The director pans from his feet to his head, ending with a close up shot so we can see the entirety of Milos and his nerves on his face as he heads into work. Maria is Olivia lady in waiting while Sir Toby is one of Olivia s kinsman who by the end of the play end up together. At the moment since Maria is waiting for her rank she does not have a title and she picked the man to be wedded to. Readers and critics assume since Sir Toby is drunk for every hour of the day his title of being a knight does not really define who he is and is acceptable for him to end up with anyone he pleases to. The plays Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard and Hamlet by William Shakespeare were composed in vastly different contexts and the nature of the plays greatly reflect the context in which they were composed. Hamlet is clearly a product of the times of the early 17th century as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is a product of the Swinging Sixties as it has very modern views on many issues that have been raised throughout time. This unrest is expressed from early in the play with lines such as There s something rotten in the state of Denmark . Every character is clearly defined in Shakespeare s play and nobody is confused about who they are or where they came from. The opposite of this, however, is Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in the sixties interpretation of the text. They seem to be very confused about their own personal identity and this can be seen frequently throughout the play when they and other characters mix their names up almost every time. The effect of this is humorous, but also comments on the confusion of identity that was being felt in the Sixties. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as characters very much reflect the ideas of the Sixties in this way, as they seem to be drifting throughout the play as observers, and are minor players. They are not sure about themselves, question their own identity and cannot find much purpose in their lives, which makes death difficult for them to comprehend. Because they are such minor players and tend not to take themselves as seriously as the traditional characters such as Hamlet himself, they can easily bring Hamlet down to a human level. They did this in the play when they quickly flattened Hamlet s wit. In all these respects it is plain to see how the sixties version of the play reflected the context in which it was composed. • 28. The Three Approachs Of The Three Theories Of Communication 1. Though persuasion skills seem intangible and only possessed by a few lucky individuals, they can actually be broken down into techniques. Three of these approaches, the principles of liking, authority, and social proof, can be explained by three theories of communication. Elaboration Likelihood Theory states that when one processes a message critically, through the central route, it is more likely for that message to change one s belief and behavior, whereas if the message is processed superficially, through the peripheral route, there will only be a short term attitude modification. There is a higher level of elaboration, or the degree to which a person assesses a piece of information closely, when the person feels fondly towards the persuader because people have a higher likelihood of paying attention to individuals they like. They are more likely to comply and wish to please. Theory of Reasoned Action explains that the manner in which one acts is affected by one s attitude about the behavior, in addition to one s beliefs about subjective norms (how other people want one to act). The principle of authority works with this theory because people are more likely to obey and believe someone who has power over them. Experts are believed because they have more information than the person, and can morph the subjective norm, as well as an individual s own attitude about a behavior. Cognitive Dissonance refers to when different cognitive components are inharmonious and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yet the numerous amounts of maltreatment of the detainees held by the US during the War on Terror has led to humanitarian interference and, more notably, concern from the United Nations assembly. The most prominent facility in which these detainees are being held is the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp, a site used for indefinite detention (mostly without trial), yet other secret prisons (operated by the CIA) are scattered about the world, which are also used for enhanced interrogation purposes. Spring brings about new life, budding trees and flowers, birds singing and butterflies flying. Predicting the end of winter and the beginning of spring has been a long time favorite ritual for many people. Groundhog Day has been around for centuries. The tradition stems from earlier traditions and crosses many different cultures. Groundhog Day remains very popular today. Initially, thousands of years ago people in Europe looked to the badger for the prediction of the arrival of spring. They watched the badger to determine when to plant their crops. However, since badgers were scarce in Pennsylvania, the groundhog took over this duty. Tradition holds that if the groundhog sees his shadow on February 2nd it will be scared and return to its burrow, signaling that there will be six more weeks of winter. Harry Harlow s experiment with infant monkeys put this idea to the test to see if humans do rely on the importance of warm contact (king,2017), or if it is simply the emotion of loving someone. Many of the existing theories of love centered on the idea that the earliest attachment between a mother and child was merely a means for the child to obtain food, relieve thirst, and avoid pain (Cherry,2017). This experiment all comes back to attachment, which is when someone or something will start developing a bonding connection with their caregiver. Harlow s experiments correlate with my past experiences whereby I formed a beneficial attachment by warmth, which is the feeling of being safe and loved. Harlow s experiment started when the monkeys were separated at birth from their mother (Green, N.D.). Therefore, the monkeys had no idea who their actual mother was when the experiment was starting. An Exploration of Genes and Inheritance Essay An Exploration of Genes and Inheritance One of the first questions people ask when someone in their family is diagnosed with diabetes is whether or not their other family members will get diabetes. So it s no surprise that research into the question of inheritance was among the earliest aspects of diabetes to be funded by Diabets UK back in the early 1950s. Genes can be described as the set of biological instructions we inherit from our parents. These instructions will determine how our bodies look and work and how they react to the environment. To make proteins, parts of the DNA double helix unzip, leaving the chemical bases along the helix unpaired. These single bases then pair up with other chemical bases within the cell to produce new versions of the DNA, called RNA. This RNA can travel out of the nucleus and into the main body of the cell, where it organises amino acids into the correct order to produce particular proteins. This is the process underlying the way we grow, and the way our bodies respond to the world around us how we digest food, how we produce energy and so on. The benefit of genetic research New technology has sped up the search for new genes enormously. Even so, checking each possible gene region takes several months. The process is painstaking and the possibility of gene therapy the holy grail of genetic research, by which defective genes might eventually be corrected still lies some way in the future. In the meantime, exploring the genetic causes of diabetes is increasing our understanding of how the condition arises and opens up new avenues of research to possible therapies. The Health Care Act Of Lakeland Regional Health Lakeland Regional Health was number one in America for the most Emergency Room visits March 2015 2016, even so they re direct on average 260 uninsured and Medicaid patients a month to their Family Health Clinic for non emergent care. The Affordable Care Act, though providing insurance benefits to many who could not afford insurance in the past, has not changed the quantity of patients utilizing the emergency room for primary care mostly due to the overwhelming need for more clinics that accept Medicaid, Share of Cost, and the uninsured.(2) Patients have often commented that it is cheaper to pay the penalty on their taxes each year over applying for the ACA insurance. The deductible and out of pocket for the insurance generally matches but the limits are often well above what the patient can afford to pay, and insurance does not pay until they have met that deductible amount. The question is not about providing care to the patients that arrive in the emergency room, but to offer a screening process to ensure that the emergency room is available for true emergencies, and that the safety of patients are considered and the delay of care is as short as possible. Lakeland Regional Health opened a Family Health Clinic in 2012 for patients who need primary care, rather than emergency department treatment, but whose lack of insurance has given them few options to choose from.(1) The clinic also offers follow up care for patients discharged from the hospital that require follow up, ... Kingdoms in this era were subject to imperial claims (other than by the emperor), making the role of emperor not absolute and in constant struggle to maintain control over, through negotiations or confrontations.5 In this book, Strootman elaborates on how there are two essential diagrams for exposing political assertiveness during the Hellenistic period shedding light on the function of imperialism, the first describes the court as a political structure used to assert power but this idea is rivaled with the importance of the theater and the important role it played in to support the role of the king and his court against the courts of others. The other is describing capital and cities as tools of a power play made by those of power (the king and his courtiers).6 These arguments as Strootman exposes to the reader that based off of the ideas of Norbert Elias, Jurgen von Kruedener and Charles Tilly, we are able to better understand the function of court during this era.7 Kruedener as mentioned by Strootman explains how the role of favor with the king was vital to the attainment of power within the kingdom, disbursement of land holdings, duties of offices and this was all done through exposure before the king through the instrument of court. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Computer Games For budding video game players, choosing your platform for gaming is not only a bit of a challenge financially, but also depending on your level of experience and interest in convenience. When you take into account these three factors, and maybe a few more, it will very much decide what kind of gamer you would like to be, or, what is best for you at the time. For some people money may not be an issue and deciding can be relatively easy as both is an option. However, for many of us, we have to take more time to decide.
