The quote stated in article two by Ceruzzi (2005), there was a time when you could work on your car ,
is a metaphor explaining how this current era has dramatically changed due to advancements in
technologies, information, and media. Ceruzzi (2005) explained in his journal how software such as
Microsoft (PowerPoint), Adobe and AOL provides more convenience and assists us in our
presentation of information by just a few clicks of a wireless computer mouse. Ceruzzi (2005) states,

SOCIO ECONOMIC AND DEMOGRAPHIC FEATURES OF KIDNAPPING IN NIGERIA: AN
ANALYTICAL STUDY
Abstract
This study analyzed and reviewed the Nigerian print media coverage of kidnapping cases between
2005 and 2011. The focus of the study was to determine socio economic and demographic features of
kidnapping in Nigeria. Content analysis was adopted for the study as well as use of frequency tables
for analysis of data. Anomie theory of crime based on Robert K. Merton s analysis of Durkheim s
theory provided our theoretical frame work in this analysis. The study argued that a plethora of factors
have been implicated as the causes of kidnapping in Nigeria. This paper recommends that some drastic
measures be taken to nip in the bud the menace of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kidnapping has of recent assumed alarming dimension in the states in Niger Delta region opening up
opportunities and avenues for dangerous socio political degeneration. This has implication on the
social, economic and political development for not only the Niger Delta region in particular but also
for the Nigerian state in general.
The degree of deprivation suffered by the Niger Delta people and the complexities that characterize
their problems made them adopt the various strategies at different times.
By 1990s resistance groups began to emerge. They had a broad ethnic base an epitomized by the
Movement for the survival of the Ogoni people ( MOSOP) and the Movement for the survival of Izon
Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND). They organized rallies, civil disobedience, boycott
of state programmes, violent protests, vandalisation of oil pipelines and wells, hostage takings and
sabotages. These groups later discovered kidnapping as one of the strategies in agitating for their
rights.
OBJECTIVES
The central objective of this study is to analyze socio economic and demographic features of
kidnapping in Nigeria. Specifically, the study seeks to:
1. Examine the categories of people that carry out kidnapping.
2. Categorize the kind of the people being kidnapped.
3. Analyze the bases for causes of kidnapping in Nigeria.
4. Determine the trend of kidnapping within Nigeria.

Dealing with the everyday hustle and bustle that life throws at them. African American women
continue to rise above and stand out while doing so. They have been labeled as different, from their
parenting style down to their style of dress. These women have also been ridiculed, labeled in a
negative manner, and even mistreated. For example, they have earned lower wages than African
American males and whites. On the other hand, they have also been viewed as strong willed
individuals. For examples, they have headed more than forty percent of their families while managing
careers, and raising children. African American females are heterogeneous in terms ... Show more

These concerns affected the race as a whole and causing oppression, depression, and many additional
negative concerns. From this, also came strength and perseverance. The race as a whole has been able
to rise above and move forward in a positive direction.
STRATEGIES FOR WORKING WITH AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN
In counseling African American women, issues involving racial identity and conflict should be
explored. Counselors can help African American females counteract negative images associated with
being Black and being female; enhancing internal strength by developing pride and dignity in Black
womanhood can serve as a buffer to racism and sexism and can prevent the incorporation of negative
images into their own belief systems (Sue Sue, 2013, p. 374). Counselors should be aware of the
culture and familiar with the struggles and life events that have taken place for African American
females in order to relate, build rapport, and be helpful to them.
Family strategies for working with African American females include exploring the possibility of
extended or nontraditional family arrangements. Therefore, questions should be directed toward
clarifying who is living in the home and who helps out. Therapists/Counselors should work to
strengthen and increase functionality of the original family structure rather than attempt to change it.

The Properties Of Solid Sorbents Relevant On The...
Sorbent characteristics
This chapter discusses the properties of solid sorbents relevant to the performance and cost of CO2
capture. The chapter begins with a discussion of the solid sorbent properties that are important for
CO2 capture. The discussion then broadens to include a range of factors which affect the CO2 capture
process, such as the interactions between the solid sorbent and other flue gas components, sorbent
attrition and degradation, and the influence of reaction kinetics. The chapter concludes with a
summary of ?best estimate? characteristics of the specific solid sorbents analyzed in this work.
Solid sorbent properties
Solid sorbents are small porous particles which can selectively adsorb or complex with gaseous
chemical species (in this case, CO2), thereby removing the species from a gas mixture. Molecules of
CO2 may be held loosely by weak intermolecular forces termed ?physiosorption? or strongly via
covalent bonding, termed ?chemisorption.? Generally, physiosorption occurs when the heat of
adsorption is greater than approximately 40 kJ/mol of CO2 (i.e. 20 to 40 kJ/mol), while chemisorption
occurs with the heats of adsorption less than 60 kJ/mole (Yang, 2003). These are rules of thumb,
however, and exceptions do exist. For instance, the heat of physiosorption of CO2 in some zeolites has
been reported to be as low as 210 kJ/mol CO2 (Shen, et al., 2000), with heats of chemisorption known
to extend from as low as 62 kJ/mol to over 420 kJ/mol. The heat

How Did Roman Women Wear Makeup
As times change, so do the social norms of society. In Ancient Roman times, the amount of makeup
you wore would define your social class. Rather than how men wore different togas to convey one s
social standing, women who wore more makeup were seen to be in a higher social ranking. Talented
slaves were the ones forced to create more intricate hairstyles and makeup looks. (Types of Roman
Make up ) The Roman slave hairdressers were known as ornatrices. Roman women originally wore
their hair with simplicity, but as time progressed during the reign of Emperor Augustus hairstyles
became more complex, these defined your social ranking along with your makeup. (Types of Roman

access to the same types of products. Roman application of makeup first consisted of a foundation that

Romanticism In Eugene Delacroix s Liberty Leading The People
Eugene Delacroix s Liberty Leading the People is an oil painting that stands at 8′ 6″ x 10′ 8″,
commemorating the July Revolution of France in 1830. The painting, when first displayed at the 1831
Salon, an annual exhibition of French Art, was met with strong reactions of disapproval due to his
Romanticism influences and was later banned from public viewing. The 19th century experienced a
transition from the Enlightenment Period of logic and reason, to the Romanticism artistic movement,
of which Eugene Delacroix was a leading figure. Romanticism, as explained by Kathryn Calley
Galitz, emphasized subjectivity, imagination, and emotion, much of which is evident in Liberty
Leading the People. Delacroix, instead of painting an actual scene of warfare, chose to balance out the
chaotic nature of battle by incorporating both realism and idealism into his painting. Zelazko explains
that Delacroix did not participate in the uprising because of his dependence on royal commissions, but
instead chose to take part by creating a work of art that overwhelmingly encompasses all aspects of
that historic day. Posthumously, the painting was moved to the Louvre in Paris, France where the
response was more favorable, and today critics regard his work as a masterpiece with a unique take on
this historical event. In Liberty Leading the People, the unification of civilian fighters that form the
rising French Republic march through the ruins of the fallen empire of King Charles X. The

My Search For Going To College
What do you mean I cannot live with my parents for the rest of my life? So you mean to tell me that I
actually have to become an adult? . These have been the thoughts plaguing my mind for the past four
years and now that my time is up, I get to do something about them. My main problem with going to
college is being away from my home, my family, and my friends. I knew that if I were to pick the
wrong college, I would be running back to my mom in a weeks time. Finding the right college is a
universal challenge for every upcoming college student, but when I found Baylor University I knew it
was my new home.
My hunt for the perfect college started my freshmen year of high school. During that time in my life, I
felt there was a big weight on my shoulders to be successful in life. Since picking the right college is a
big part of being successful, I was feeling overwhelmed. There are about 1,400 colleges in the United
States and I had to narrow that down to a top five, frantic was an understatement about how I was
feeling. Taking a step back to look at the big picture, I decided to evaluate what I was looking for in a
college; I came up with the following list: have my desired major (Astrophysics), be far away from
home (but not too far), and to live in a big city.
Applying my new set of criteria, I now only had 3 colleges to choose from: University of Texas at
Austin, Rice University, and Baylor University. I gave my contact information to each of them and in
time I had a scheduled visit to Baylor University.
When I arrived on the Baylor campus I immediately felt at home. I had the honor of attending the
Baylor Premier, which acts like a huge campus tour for everyone that attends the seminar.
Everybody was so genuinely nice and enthusiastic about me being there, I got the feeling that was
where I belonged. I could see myself walking the campus with my newly found friends on the way to
our The Atomic Theory 101 class. Although I have a tendency of letting my head float in the sky, I had
to snap myself out of my dreamland and back into reality to remember that I still had two other
options for my perfect college. Not wanting to make my decision after only seeing one school I
scheduled campus tours with The

The Justifications Of Prison And Punishment
The area this dissertation will be focusing on is the justifications of prison and punishment, and
looking at whether these objectives are being achieved today in the current prisonsystem, with a
thorough analysis of short sentences.
In order to analyse this, short sentences will be looked at to discover whether the prison system is
working.
Throughout history, punishment has always had to be justified. For example, pre 19th century,
punishment, which included being sent to the gallows or being placed in the stocks, had the
justification of being a deterrent, as punishment was a very public event (BBC, 2012). This type of
punishment was then met with Petitions against executions and torture increased in the eighteenth
century (Poster, 1984), and as a result of these petitions, theorists such as Beccaria (1764) spoke of
creating a punishment that removed the element of torture. Foucault (1975) spoke of the moving of
punishment from the body to the mind, in order to present the prospect that their acts would that their
acts would cause more pain than pleasure so that, as rational beings, they would avoid committing
illegalities in the first place (Poster, 1984).
Prison has therefore been justified since the Gladstone Report (Departmental Committee on
Prisons,1895), which set the tone for penal policy, stating that prison would have a deterrent function;
there would also be a rehabilitative ideal about prison. The objectives of prison, as described by

Electric Power, Motors and Generators Surround Us Every Day
Introduction
Our world is powered by electricity; it surrounds us in every turn and every corner, powering our
streetlights, our TVs, our hospitals, our homes, and our communities. Electricity is a form of energy
that results from charged particles. There are many energy sources that can be converted into
electricity, and that s why it is suited for powering our society. We can generate electricity from
burning fuels, energy of falling water, solar energy, and basically anything that has energy. Electricity
is also easy to distribute, using transmission lines connecting the energy power station to homes,
schools and so on. Atoms consist of electric charge, so electric charge is everywhere and the electric
charge has an electric field. An electric field can only be created by a positive charge and destroyed by
a negative charge(Brightstorm, 2010). According to Bob emery, owner of senior physics website, to
generate electric power it requires motion between a magnetic field and a conductor. Attraction of a
magnet is limited to certain boundaries this is called the magnetic field of a magnet (Makemegenius,
2013).
An electric current in a magnetic field will experience a force, (HyperPhysics, 2014) due to the
interaction between the charged particles in the electric current and the magnet, this force is called the
motor effect. To find the direction of magnetic field you use the right hand rule, pointing the thumb in
the direction of the current and curling your fingers in

Animal Cruelty, By Walt Disney
Waking up hours before the dawn, and to know the utter silence of a late autumn morning. Hearing the
crunch of snow under your boots as you begin the hike into the distant, silent mountains. Smelling the
pines along the trail, and see the silent sentinel spruces on the ridge, barely glimpsed in the pre dawn
dark. It s enough to sit, shivering, at the best spot on the top rim of a remote basin, watching the east
grow bright, waiting for the first rays of warm sunshine to break through the trees and drive away the
bitter cold of night. Although some people think that hunting is animal cruelty, I believe that hunting is
crucial to maintain the balance of animal population before they become over populated. Hunting in
general is a broad topic so, I will be using deer as the main point.
Walt Disney has had a hand in how hunters are portrayed. Bambi, released in 1942, portrayed hunters
as heartless people, killing Bambi s mother and leaving the fawn to learn to survive. Disney also came
out with a television show based on Davy Crockett s life. The series celebrated Crockett s ability as a
hunter and resulted in a children s fad of wearing coonskin caps and carrying toy Crockett buffalo
rifles. Disney has used movies to make us see both sides. In 1980, People for the Ethical Treatment of
Animals (PETA) was formed; its slogan was, Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use
for entertainment. Hunting has been a very controversial topic for many years and

I began swimming at the age of 4 and I was fortunate to earn a college swimming scholarship at
Purdue University. At Purdue, I was a good swimmer and really worked hard each and every day.
However, my at the time girlfriend (and current wife, also a swimmer) always said I looked like a
recreational swimmer! She made this comment as I wore old school foam goggles and my head
moved all around during freestyle. Needless to say, my breathing biomechanics were far from ideal,
despite being on a collegiate swimming scholarship!
Breathing is a simplistically complex task. Everyone can breathe, but the mechanics are complicated.
Unfortunately, in swimming this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, this information isn t ground breaking. Yet, if one is anxious or stressed, they ll begin
taking short, shallow breaths. This short, shallow breathing is highly damaging to swimming
performance, as it will increase your breathing frequency and fatigue of the inspiratory muscles.
Moreover, you ll constantly feel out of breath and tired with this fast and shallow breathing pattern.
Tip: If you can t stay relaxed, hold you breath for 3 seconds underwater, then exhale directly before
your next breath.
Lifting the head or armpit breathing are two common swimming flaws during the freestyle breathing
motion. These motions greatly impede the swimming stroke as they create more drag. Recently,
Formosa (2014) researched breathing and drag in elite male and female swimmers.
The male participants demonstrated that the breathing action caused a greater (26 %) net drag force
compared to the females (16 %). To further understand the influence of breathing on swimming
technique, each stroke was analyzed and comparisons were made between the breathing and non

Stanford Prison Experiment Philip G Zimbardo
The Stanford Prison Experiment was created by Philip G. Zimbardo, a psychologist, and professor
who taught at Stanford. The experiment s goal was to study how easily one will adapt to roles that are
assigned to them. The study began with volunteers who were randomly assigned to become either
prisoners or guards. It didn t take long for the guards to harass the prisoners. On the second day of the
experiment, the prisoners started to rebel and test the guard s boundaries. In an attempt to keep the
prisoners in line, the guards started to use physical violence; which was against the rules. The guards
became more and more violent every day, the amount of abuse the guards displayed was totally
unexpected.
One benefit of the experiment was that it showed how easily one can adopt a new persona when put
into different situations and environments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A tactic used by the guards to emotionally abuse the prisoners was giving the inmates a number,
instead of calling them by name. The guards were dehumanizing the prisoners. Another example of
dehumanization is when the prisoner first arrived, they were stripped of their clothes and put into
dresses. The physical abuse the guards put the prisoners through is another downside of the
experiment. The guards made them do push ups and other physical activity as a form of punishment.
To make it harder, some had other prisoners on their back while doing the push ups.
I believe this experiment is useful for several reasons. The first reason is it a great example of how
easily people can conform to the roles that they are given. Another reason is that it didn t cause any
extensive emotional or physical suffering after the experiment. This experiment also teaches other
researchers what not to do. Despite the important findings, I do not think that any similar experiments
should happen again because of the abuse some students

The Torah For Being The Judaism s Holy Book
Most know the Torah for being the Judaism s holy book, the first five books of the Bible, and the laws.
More advanced Jewish scholars may be familiar with the Talmud. But, few Jews learn the Kabbalah
teachings. Traditionally, adults of the age of forty would begin to start learning about the Kabbalah
and read from the Zohar (Slick). The Zohar from Hebrew directly translates to splendor or radiance.
The Zohar is one of the most important works of Kabbalah or Jewish mysticism. It is a mystical
commentary on the Torah, it was written in medieval Aramaic and medieval Hebrew. It discusses of
the nature of God, the origin and structure of the universe, the nature of souls, sin, redemption, good,
and evil. The Zohar is not one book, but a group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This spark of curiosity drove me to uncover new things about Judaism that I had never encountered
before. This lead me straight the Kabbalah to learn about something not many people know about.
After preliminary online research, I started to realize that the Kabbalah had a somewhat negative
reputation, while in other write ups, the Kabbalah was perceived as unimportant. This got me thinking
as to how the Kabbalah got this skewed reputation and what it did, if anything to deserve it? Also, why
haven t I heard of this before if I ve been surrounded by Judaism for most of my life? Is the Kabbalah
some lost distant tradition? If so, why are there news stories of major celebrities like Madonna
practicing it? In my quest to quench my thirst my knowledge, I kept my focus on investigating: what
is the background and history of the Kabbalah that may have led it to become so misunderstood?
Criterion B: Plan for Study
I plan to first delve into the heart of the Kabbalah teachings to get a strong base and an understanding
of the subject. Highly credible Jewish websites will guide my initial research and help to slowly
emerge me into learning the teachings. Next I plan to focus on Jewish academic journals and scholarly
information. In particular, Professor Gershom Scholem, he is an expert and experienced writer on the
subject and is well respected by Jews and non Jews alike. My research journey will then take me to

High Noon Vs The Most Dangerous Game Comparison Essay
It s the film, High Noon versus The Most Dangerous Game ! If you don t know what High Noon is, it
s about Will, who is the protagonist, is coming back to town to fight Frank, who is the antagonist, and
his gang to finish their fight once and for all. Now about The Most Dangerous Game , it s about
Rainsford, who is trapped on an island and the protagonist, fights Zaroff, who is the antagonist, to
survive in this jungle like island. The 2 stories of the film and the short story have many similarities

the setting.
Between these 2, the theme the film and the short story are very similar. Evidence in the film to prove

The Family Tree Sparknotes
The Family Tree, by Carole Cadwalledr, is a novel that attempts to overcome the patriarchal control of
society by focusing on the matrilineal line of family history and genetics. The pervasive male bias in
literature leads readers to equate the experience of a good life with the experience of being male. This
misrepresentation of women s lives produce a partial and distorted understanding of culture and
society; which serves to obfuscate relations of power and reinforce the devaluation of women s roles
and contributions. Cadwalledr s feminine model of development, based on the experiences of women
within this novel, stands as a direct testimony of the rigid constrictions of the patriarchal society in
which they live. Women have long been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This model defines gender as social understandings of how males and females should behave within
society s specific constraints. The ideology of gender is a social construct that changes with the
societal views most vividly expressed through the opposing beliefs and values of Doreen and her
sister, Suzanne. As Doreen watches the first female prime minister get elected, she utters, A lady prime
minister! Who ever would have thought it? Of course it s the children I feel sorry for. She also
expresses this strong belief against women working by commenting on the new female deputy head: It
s not right. Imagine taking food out of the mouths of children like that! They should have given it to a
breadwinner! Doreen exemplifies the typical housewife throughout this entire novel, clearly shown
through this quote: There was no shortage of house proud housewives in Beech Drive but my mother
was, arguable, the proudest of them all. Her kitchen floor really was clean enough to eat your dinner

roles her family executes: It might have been a holiday, but the strict gender zoning laws of life still

Earth s skin, the very flesh of this planet, is slowly degrading due to human impact; this result is
desertification. According to our book, Discovering Physical Geography, desertification is the process
through which a formerly vegetated landscape gradually becomes desert like (Page number). The
process of desertification is an ongoing issue that has inflicted major harm to landscapes all around the

The Great Plains is now a barren wasteland. The cause for vegetation removal, such as in the Great
Plains, vary upon many factors.
Alone or in combination, the removal of vegetation can be caused by overgrazing, deforestation,
unsustainable farming practices, inappropriate irrigation practices that leads to salinity, and much
more. These causes are in turn associated with a wide range of other problems, thus speeding the
process of desertification. Some include: drought, climate shifts, growing populations, poverty,
inadequate infrastructure, and inappropriate technologies (oasisglobal). I will explain a few of these
problems and their association with desertification.
Depending on how it is managed, agriculture can play a positive or negative role on the landscape. In
the case of unsustainable farming practices, the landscape is bound for a negative road. Such practices
can include the use of intense fire to promote nutrients for the crops. According to Green Facts, an
organization that provides information on Health and the Environment, the excessive use of intense
fire can cause irreversible changes in ecological processes, and ultimately, to desertification. This in
turn changes the soil organic matter, causes erosion, and changes the habitat for many plant and
animal species (GreenFacts). However, this is not the only human inducing practice that has caused
the lost of vegetation leading into desertification.

The Seven Miracles of Christ
Introduction
Throughout the New Testament are recounts of the miracles that Jesus performed to give proof that He
was indeed the Son of God and the Messiah foretold of in the Old Testament. John chose to recount
only seven of the many miracles that Jesus performed. He felt that these seven, more than any of the
others, showed definitive proof that the Messiah, the Son of God, had come as promised.
The First Miracle John 2:1 11
The first of the seven miracles that John recounts is the turning of water into wine. John notes that this
miracle marks the beginning of Jesus signs to His disciples and the world. Jesus and his mother are
invited to a wedding during which the hosts run out of wine. When the servants come to Mary and tell

Jesus was sitting on top of a mountain with His disciples when he saw a large number of followers
approaching them. He asked Philip about where they would be able to purchase food for all those
people. Jesus already knew what He was going to do and was testing Philip s faith. When one of His
disciples, Andrew, told him that they only had five loaves of bread and two fish, He gave thanks for
the food and told the disciples to eat. Once they were done, He told the disciples to gather up what
was left so that none of the food would be lost. When they had gathered up all of the food they had
filled twelve baskets. Jesus showed his disciples that when they are unable to accomplish a task that
they can turn to and depend upon Him. This message drove home something that I have struggled
with for a long time. When we find ourselves in a position where we just can t seem to get things right
or make things happen the way we think they should, we need to turn to and depend upon God to
guide us and give us the tools we need to accomplish the goals and tasks He has planned for us.
The Fifth Miracle John 6:15 21 After Jesus miracle at the mountain feeding the masses, He went
further up the mountain to pray realizing that the masses were about to try to take Him by force to
make Him their king. When evening came, the disciples left on a boat without Jesus to go back to

Penelope says it was made special, but we can conclude that this is Odysseus being possessive and
oppressive he made this bed because if he ever heard anyone talking about it he would know Penelope
had cheated on him. He uses this to control her and keep her loyal, but he can sleep with whomever he
wants. Penelope must hear stories of Odysseus and his adventures and orgies with the nymphs and
goddesses, but she is not allowed to cheat. Here we see a strong example of gender roles. It is believed
that wen a man cheats he s a player, a seducer of women, but a woman who cheats is a called
something awful and is shun upon by all. Women are to be submissive to men regardless of how old
they are we get to see this in the Penelopaid when we hear how Telemachus talks to his mother
asserting himself as head of the house even though he is if anything a teenager. In the article written
by Mary Beard, Silencing women an age old practice we get an idea of just how much gender role
inequality there is in this novel. Beard points out also an instance where in the Odyssey we see
Telemachus act like he is better because he is man and no respect towards his mother, go back up into

The Theory Of Robert Pickton As A Serial Killer
First, the theory chosen for the social science discipline, psychology is psychosocial. The focus of the
theory is how Robert Pickton became a serial killer due to the environment he grew up in and
relationships. Pickton s parents ran a meat business in Port Coquitlam and Pickton alongside his
brother helped them. Pickton s mother was tough and had the children work on a strict schedule. In
addition, Pickton s father had very little influence in his life, but his mother can be the key influence in
why he murders women. Pickton was close to his mother and she also was a major authority figure in
his life. Consequently, Pickton could have grown a hatred towards women due to his mother and is the
reason he targets women. Enough hatred to ensure his victims suffer by raping and killing them Also,
due to his mother making him work hard on the farm he had little to no childhood. Pickton did raise a
calf and was very close to it, however, the calf was slaughtered. As a result, Pickton never forgot it and
also said from CBC News, the incident made him realize life was fleeting. Additionally, Pickton is
used to seeing things being killed and dying because he saw many animals being slaughtered when he
was young. Death in his eyes has been normalized and is not an unusual occurrence. This is a key
reason Pickton does not feel remorse for the killing of his victims because it is normal to him.
Furthermore, Pickton was quiet and socially awkward, sometimes exhibiting unusual behaviour.

International Copyright Essay
The idea that an author of a literary work has certain inalienable rights to his work has been an
institution found on a national level in many countries for centuries. These rights have taken on
different forms depending on the legal tradition of the country where it is applied. In systems with a
common law tradition, based on utilitarian ideals, the rights were referred to as copyright. In systems
that relied on a civil law tradition, based on philosophical thought and the basic idea of a moral and
natural order, the rights became to be known as author s rights and later expanded to neighboring
rights. Although these rights, and the laws that went along with them, developed in many countries

These laws were upheld unchanged until 1957 when a new copyright act was passed (Goldstein, 9).
Author s right is normally thought to correspond with natural rights, yet this wasn t the case until the
late nineteenth century. This portion of the author s right tradition emerged from the idea that the
personality of the author of a literary work is linked to the work itself. A theory that can be traced back
to Otto von Gierke and Kant (Goldstein, 9). This lead to the separation of personal rights from
economic rights in French law, where it was believed that an author s moral rights were more or less
absolute. As the laws around author s right were being constructed and worked out in many different
civil courts, there was new technology being developed that would challenge the very idea of
authorship. These new technologies, such as photographs and motion pictures would give rise to the
controversy between what was the product of a mechanical creation and what was the work of an
artistic author. These debates would continue and the tradition of neighboring rights would emerge to
provide protection for performances, sound recordings, and broadcasts. The main difference between
author s right and neighboring rights is that the latter doesn t consider the protected works literary or

Alcoholic husbands in India beat their wives for multiple reasons, for demanding their wives to
provide them with money to drink from the meager and inadequate funds that they have to spend on
their families, for stopping their wives from nagging them for drinking too much and influencing the
children wrongly.
Social Norms in Beating
Indian society is a highly patriarchal society and has always given men more rights over women. In
such situations the woman begins to feel helpless and her life meaningless, this instigates the husband
to feel more powerful and dominant. Moreover economically backward and illiterate families have the
problems of bad relationships between the mother in law and daughter in law, where the husband
siding with his mother, finds it right to hit his wife to teach her a lesson.
Reaction of Women to Domestic Violence
a) Passively
A passive woman says nothing and allows the abuse to continue. She becomes the abuser s enabler.
She grows weaker and allows the abuser to grow stronger. Her passivity prolongs the loss of her own

penalty be abolished from our criminal justice system? Well, that depends on whom you ask. If you
ask me... no. I personally don t see anything wrong with the death penalty because there are a lot of
criminals that are just too dangerous to society and death is the only punishment they deserve.
I know that it is in the eighth amendment that prohibits cruel and unusual punishment, and I can t
think of a greater punishment for a crime than death, but I believe that exceptions should be made.

The most recent state to enact a death penalty law was New York in 1995. As of January 1998, 38
states and the federal government have capital punishment laws in effect. Alaska, Hawaii, Iowa,
Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia,
and Wisconsin do not have a death penalty. (http://www.uaa.alaska.edu/just/death/)
Death penalty advocates argue that the execution of convicted murderers deter others from committing
murder for fear that they will also be executed, and also that murderers will be incapacitated: once
dead, they will have no opportunity to commit additional murders. Death penalty opponents dispute
the deterrent effect of capital punishment, arguing that few murderers rationally weigh the possibility
that they might face the death penalty before committing a murder. Finally, death penalty opponents
do not dispute that execution incapacitates executed murders, but argue that life imprisonment without
possibility of parole is equally incapacitating. (Jacob Sullum, Los Angeles)
I do not agree with this statement. I couldn t think of punishment worse than death. If I were a

Sociology Labeling Theory
In sociology, labeling theory is the view of deviance according to which being labeled as a deviant
leads a person to engage in deviant behavior. According to a video uploaded by Sociology Live the
spokesperson stated that: We give people a number of labels based on who we think they are which is
based on what society tells us is important, the labels we give to a person determine how we interact
with them this includes what we believe is deviant and criminal coming from symbolic interactionism
(Sociology Live). In our society, people are quick to label African Americans as uneducated or
criminals before getting to know the person. Our society believes that these labeling factors are
acceptable to judge a person on their race, sex, and religion

Social And Cultural Context Of Psychology
Katja Gavrilina
Define the term Psychology and discuss its history in light of social and cultural context, highlighting
the significance of different perspectives in Psychology.
Psychology is defined as the scientific study of mental processes and human behaviour. It had roots in
philosophy and physiology, before becoming an independent scientific discipline in the late 1800 s.
Descartes (1641) suggested that the mind and the body work separately, together creating the human
experience (Mastin L. 2008). This idea of so called dualism shaped a number of on going discussions
in modern psychology, such as the nature nurture debate. In 1879 the first experimental laboratory was
founded by Wilhelm Wundt, in Leipzig, Germany. This fundamental moment is referred to as the birth
of Psychology.
Until the 1900 s psychologists mainly studied the conscious human experience. Sigmund Freud,
Austrian physician, caused a ground breaking shift in this field (1890 s 1930 s). He brought special
importance to the unconscious mind, arguing that early childhood experiences and unconscious urges
shape our adult personality. He emphasized the importance of sex and stages of early development.
Contributing psychoanalysis in the 20th century, Freud had an enormous impact on the field of
Psychology. His theory is unscientific and based on his individual cases, which makes it hard to
generalize his assumptions. Freud s work was also criticized by feminist Karen Horney,

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Pope Urban II
Pope Urban II delivers a touching an inspiring speech that is meant to highlight the importance of
trusting in God in one attempt to overcome their challenges. The pope delivers the message at a time
when there is turmoil and the country had been subjected to chaos to misunderstanding by the kings
and rulers at the time. In his speech the religious leader employs a prayer in their attempt to convince
their followers to embark of the dangerous journey and rescue what belongs to them based on the
motivation of bible scriptures.
One motivation that the pope uses in luring Christians into the idea of fighting in the holy land is
based in the fact that God has given them power unlike other nations to defeat their enemies (Jan). In
his speech, Urban II also mentions their uniqueness in the ability to possess courage, and humility
means that their God favors them and they do not need to worry as they plan to tackle and overcome
the enemy in war. In the motivational speech, the pope further reminds the city members that they
need to be aware that God is with them and they should not worry in the battle (Jan). ... Show more

Urban II states that it is written in the holy books that if they forsake their earthly materials and
relatives for the name of their God, they will be blessed abundantly. He asserts that Christians need to
learn to forego all belongings including those that they treasure dearly in their loves especially when
he refers to leaving family members for the glory of God s name. In concluding his remarks, the Pope
states that the word of God not only needs Christies to forego their belongings but they also have to
realize that their bodies are worthless too and they should murder and devour each other for the name
of God

This enabled numerous me too drugs to achieve satisfactory returns on investment. Imitating a known
drug reduced R D risk considerably, while the marketplace was open to products offering minor
advantages such as a more convenient dosage with fewer side effects, but with much the same
therapeutic outcome. Generics legislation had a major impact on the industry, providing incentives for
innovation and a race to market. The time during which R D costs could be recouped was drastically
curtailed, putting upward pressure on prices. By the end of the 1970s generic entrants and more
stringent controls on clinical trials had led to substantial increases in R D spending.
There were two important developments in the 1970s which further shaped the industry in the form
that we see today. Firstly, the Thalidomide tragedy (where an antiemetic given for morning sickness
caused birth defects) led to much tighter regulatory controls on clinical trials, greatly increasing
development costs. Secondly, enactment of legislation to set a fixed period on patent protection
(typically 20 years from initial filing as a research discovery) led to the appearance of generic
medicines. Generics medicines are those that have exactly the same active ingredients as the original
brand, and compete on price.
Another important feature of the pharmaceutical industry was the fact in that in many countries it was

Should People Be Allowed To Keep Pitbulls As Pets Essay
Dogs are friendly, loyal house pets. They are intelligent, so they can provide services to people, such
as working with police officers at airports searching bags for bombs and illegal drugs. Dogs work as
guards protecting families and their most valuable belongings. Many disabled people live with trained
dogs. These animals are versatile, intelligent and loyal. By far, dogs are more superior pets than any
other pet. People should be allowed to keep pit bulls as pets because there is a lot of misunderstood
information that people do not know about, and they are not aggressive, and they are an excellent dog/
pet. Many people have wrong information about pit bulls. After adopting a pit bull herself, Dickey was
shocked to witness the negative responses her pet evoked (Kirkus). These dogs are very smart, and
most everybody does not realize that. They are very easy to train and learn things quickly. Back in the
day, pit bulls were used to help hunters hunt and kill bears. They are very affectionate towards their
owners. They like to remind you regularly of how they feel towards and that means a lot of kisses and
tail wagging.
Unless you raise them to fight, pit bulls are kind to the people they are comfortable around. They are
usually seen as killer fighting dogs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are strong territorial dogs, when around strangers they are very reserved, also a very reliable
guard dog. Pit bulls are the big dogs in the dog world and are very serious about their guarding job.
Even though it may take a strong adult to train and hold back on a leash they are great with children.
Early training is important to make sure everyone is safe around them. Pit Bull Terriers are said by
their owners to be a loyal companion dogs... obedient, loving and protective (Morris 363). Even
though they are protective, sometimes they can be a little too protective. When they see their person in
an abnormal situation they will do anything to protect

Kidnapping has of recent assumed alarming dimension in the states in Niger Delta region opening up opportunities and avenues for dangerous socio political degeneration. This has implication on the social, economic and political development for not only the Niger Delta region in particular but also for the Nigerian state in general. The degree of deprivation suffered by the Niger Delta people and the complexities that characterize their problems made them adopt the various strategies at different times. By 1990s resistance groups began to emerge. They had a broad ethnic base an epitomized by the Movement for the survival of the Ogoni people ( MOSOP) and the Movement for the survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND). They organized rallies, civil disobedience, boycott of state programmes, violent protests, vandalisation of oil pipelines and wells, hostage takings and sabotages. These groups later discovered kidnapping as one of the strategies in agitating for their rights. OBJECTIVES The central objective of this study is to analyze socio economic and demographic features of kidnapping in Nigeria. Specifically, the study seeks to: 1. Examine the categories of people that carry out kidnapping. 2. Categorize the kind of the people being kidnapped. 3. Analyze the bases for causes of kidnapping in Nigeria. 4. African American women continue to rise above and stand out while doing so. They have been labeled as different, from their parenting style down to their style of dress. These women have also been ridiculed, labeled in a negative manner, and even mistreated. For example, they have earned lower wages than African American males and whites. These concerns affected the race as a whole and causing oppression, depression, and many additional negative concerns. From this, also came strength and perseverance. The race as a whole has been able to rise above and move forward in a positive direction. STRATEGIES FOR WORKING WITH AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN In counseling African American women, issues involving racial identity and conflict should be explored. Counselors can help African American females counteract negative images associated with being Black and being female; enhancing internal strength by developing pride and dignity in Black womanhood can serve as a buffer to racism and sexism and can prevent the incorporation of negative images into their own belief systems (Sue Sue, 2013, p. 374). Counselors should be aware of the culture and familiar with the struggles and life events that have taken place for African American females in order to relate, build rapport, and be helpful to them. Family strategies for working with African American females include exploring the possibility of extended or nontraditional family arrangements. Therefore, questions should be directed toward clarifying who is living in the home and who helps out. Therapists/Counselors should work to strengthen and increase functionality of the original family structure rather than attempt to change it. One of the strengths of the ... • 7. The Properties Of Solid Sorbents Relevant On The... Sorbent characteristics This chapter discusses the properties of solid sorbents relevant to the performance and cost of CO2 capture. The chapter begins with a discussion of the solid sorbent properties that are important for CO2 capture. The discussion then broadens to include a range of factors which affect the CO2 capture process, such as the interactions between the solid sorbent and other flue gas components, sorbent attrition and degradation, and the influence of reaction kinetics. The chapter concludes with a summary of ?best estimate? characteristics of the specific solid sorbents analyzed in this work. Solid sorbent properties Solid sorbents are small porous particles which can selectively adsorb or complex with gaseous chemical species (in this case, CO2), thereby removing the species from a gas mixture. Molecules of CO2 may be held loosely by weak intermolecular forces termed ?physiosorption? or strongly via covalent bonding, termed ?chemisorption.? Generally, physiosorption occurs when the heat of adsorption is greater than approximately 40 kJ/mol of CO2 (i.e. 20 to 40 kJ/mol), while chemisorption occurs with the heats of adsorption less than 60 kJ/mole (Yang, 2003). These are rules of thumb, however, and exceptions do exist. For instance, the heat of physiosorption of CO2 in some zeolites has been reported to be as low as 210 kJ/mol CO2 (Shen, et al., 2000), with heats of chemisorption known to extend from as low as 62 kJ/mol to over 420 kJ/mol. • 9. Romanticism In Eugene Delacroix s Liberty Leading The People Eugene Delacroix s Liberty Leading the People is an oil painting that stands at 8′ 6″ x 10′ 8″, commemorating the July Revolution of France in 1830. The painting, when first displayed at the 1831 Salon, an annual exhibition of French Art, was met with strong reactions of disapproval due to his Romanticism influences and was later banned from public viewing. The 19th century experienced a transition from the Enlightenment Period of logic and reason, to the Romanticism artistic movement, of which Eugene Delacroix was a leading figure. Romanticism, as explained by Kathryn Calley Galitz, emphasized subjectivity, imagination, and emotion, much of which is evident in Liberty Leading the People. Delacroix, instead of painting an actual scene of warfare, chose to balance out the chaotic nature of battle by incorporating both realism and idealism into his painting. Zelazko explains that Delacroix did not participate in the uprising because of his dependence on royal commissions, but instead chose to take part by creating a work of art that overwhelmingly encompasses all aspects of that historic day. Posthumously, the painting was moved to the Louvre in Paris, France where the response was more favorable, and today critics regard his work as a masterpiece with a unique take on this historical event. These have been the thoughts plaguing my mind for the past four years and now that my time is up, I get to do something about them. My main problem with going to college is being away from my home, my family, and my friends. I knew that if I were to pick the wrong college, I would be running back to my mom in a weeks time. Finding the right college is a universal challenge for every upcoming college student, but when I found Baylor University I knew it was my new home. My hunt for the perfect college started my freshmen year of high school. During that time in my life, I felt there was a big weight on my shoulders to be successful in life. Since picking the right college is a big part of being successful, I was feeling overwhelmed. There are about 1,400 colleges in the United States and I had to narrow that down to a top five, frantic was an understatement about how I was feeling. Taking a step back to look at the big picture, I decided to evaluate what I was looking for in a college; I came up with the following list: have my desired major (Astrophysics), be far away from home (but not too far), and to live in a big city. Applying my new set of criteria, I now only had 3 colleges to choose from: University of Texas at Austin, Rice University, and Baylor University. I gave my contact information to each of them and in time I had a scheduled visit to Baylor University. When I arrived on the Baylor campus I immediately felt at home. I had the honor of attending the Baylor Premier, which acts like a huge campus tour for everyone that attends the seminar. Everybody was so genuinely nice and enthusiastic about me being there, I got the feeling that was where I belonged. I could see myself walking the campus with my newly found friends on the way to our The Atomic Theory 101 class. • 15. The Justifications Of Prison And Punishment The area this dissertation will be focusing on is the justifications of prison and punishment, and looking at whether these objectives are being achieved today in the current prisonsystem, with a thorough analysis of short sentences. In order to analyse this, short sentences will be looked at to discover whether the prison system is working. Throughout history, punishment has always had to be justified. For example, pre 19th century, punishment, which included being sent to the gallows or being placed in the stocks, had the justification of being a deterrent, as punishment was a very public event (BBC, 2012). This type of punishment was then met with Petitions against executions and torture increased in the eighteenth century (Poster, 1984), and as a result of these petitions, theorists such as Beccaria (1764) spoke of creating a punishment that removed the element of torture. Foucault (1975) spoke of the moving of punishment from the body to the mind, in order to present the prospect that their acts would that their acts would cause more pain than pleasure so that, as rational beings, they would avoid committing illegalities in the first place (Poster, 1984). Prison has therefore been justified since the Gladstone Report (Departmental Committee on Prisons,1895), which set the tone for penal policy, stating that prison would have a deterrent function; there would also be a rehabilitative ideal about prison. Electric Power, Motors and Generators Surround Us Every Day Introduction Our world is powered by electricity; it surrounds us in every turn and every corner, powering our streetlights, our TVs, our hospitals, our homes, and our communities. Electricity is a form of energy that results from charged particles. There are many energy sources that can be converted into electricity, and that s why it is suited for powering our society. We can generate electricity from burning fuels, energy of falling water, solar energy, and basically anything that has energy. Electricity is also easy to distribute, using transmission lines connecting the energy power station to homes, schools and so on. Atoms consist of electric charge, so electric charge is everywhere and the electric charge has an electric field. An electric field can only be created by a positive charge and destroyed by a negative charge(Brightstorm, 2010). According to Bob emery, owner of senior physics website, to generate electric power it requires motion between a magnetic field and a conductor. Attraction of a magnet is limited to certain boundaries this is called the magnetic field of a magnet (Makemegenius, 2013). An electric current in a magnetic field will experience a force, (HyperPhysics, 2014) due to the interaction between the charged particles in the electric current and the magnet, this force is called the motor effect. It s enough to sit, shivering, at the best spot on the top rim of a remote basin, watching the east grow bright, waiting for the first rays of warm sunshine to break through the trees and drive away the bitter cold of night. Although some people think that hunting is animal cruelty, I believe that hunting is crucial to maintain the balance of animal population before they become over populated. Hunting in general is a broad topic so, I will be using deer as the main point. Walt Disney has had a hand in how hunters are portrayed. Bambi, released in 1942, portrayed hunters as heartless people, killing Bambi s mother and leaving the fawn to learn to survive. Disney also came out with a television show based on Davy Crockett s life. The series celebrated Crockett s ability as a hunter and resulted in a children s fad of wearing coonskin caps and carrying toy Crockett buffalo rifles. Disney has used movies to make us see both sides. In 1980, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) was formed; its slogan was, Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment. • 19. Swimming Biomechanics If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You have another chance. ~Andrea Boydston I began swimming at the age of 4 and I was fortunate to earn a college swimming scholarship at Purdue University. At Purdue, I was a good swimmer and really worked hard each and every day. However, my at the time girlfriend (and current wife, also a swimmer) always said I looked like a recreational swimmer! She made this comment as I wore old school foam goggles and my head moved all around during freestyle. The experiment s goal was to study how easily one will adapt to roles that are assigned to them. The study began with volunteers who were randomly assigned to become either prisoners or guards. It didn t take long for the guards to harass the prisoners. On the second day of the experiment, the prisoners started to rebel and test the guard s boundaries. In an attempt to keep the prisoners in line, the guards started to use physical violence; which was against the rules. The guards became more and more violent every day, the amount of abuse the guards displayed was totally unexpected. One benefit of the experiment was that it showed how easily one can adopt a new persona when put into different situations and environments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A tactic used by the guards to emotionally abuse the prisoners was giving the inmates a number, instead of calling them by name. The guards were dehumanizing the prisoners. Another example of dehumanization is when the prisoner first arrived, they were stripped of their clothes and put into dresses. The physical abuse the guards put the prisoners through is another downside of the experiment. The guards made them do push ups and other physical activity as a form of punishment. To make it harder, some had other prisoners on their back while doing the push ups. I believe this experiment is useful for several reasons. The first reason is it a great example of how easily people can conform to the roles that they are given. Another reason is that it didn t cause any extensive emotional or physical suffering after the experiment. This experiment also teaches other researchers what not to do. In addition, Pickton s father had very little influence in his life, but his mother can be the key influence in why he murders women. International Copyright Essay The idea that an author of a literary work has certain inalienable rights to his work has been an institution found on a national level in many countries for centuries. These rights have taken on different forms depending on the legal tradition of the country where it is applied. In systems with a common law tradition, based on utilitarian ideals, the rights were referred to as copyright. In systems that relied on a civil law tradition, based on philosophical thought and the basic idea of a moral and natural order, the rights became to be known as author s rights and later expanded to neighboring rights. These laws were upheld unchanged until 1957 when a new copyright act was passed (Goldstein, 9). Author s right is normally thought to correspond with natural rights, yet this wasn t the case until the late nineteenth century. A theory that can be traced back to Otto von Gierke and Kant (Goldstein, 9). This lead to the separation of personal rights from economic rights in French law, where it was believed that an author s moral rights were more or less absolute. As the laws around author s right were being constructed and worked out in many different civil courts, there was new technology being developed that would challenge the very idea of authorship. These new technologies, such as photographs and motion pictures would give rise to the controversy between what was the product of a mechanical creation and what was the work of an artistic author. • 40. The Death Penalty Debate Essay The Death Penalty Debate The issue of the death penalty is widely disputed. So disputed that maybe I shouldn t have picked this topic. But nevertheless, the death penalty is an issue that needs to be addressed. Should the death penalty be abolished from our criminal justice system? Well, that depends on whom you ask. If you ask me... no. I personally don t see anything wrong with the death penalty because there are a lot of criminals that are just too dangerous to society and death is the only punishment they deserve. I know that it is in the eighth amendment that prohibits cruel and unusual punishment, and I can t think of a greater punishment for a crime than death, but I believe that exceptions should be made. Despite U.S. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most recent state to enact a death penalty law was New York in 1995. As of January 1998, 38 states and the federal government have capital punishment laws in effect. Alaska, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin do not have a death penalty. Death penalty opponents dispute the deterrent effect of capital punishment, arguing that few murderers rationally weigh the possibility that they might face the death penalty before committing a murder. Finally, death penalty opponents do not dispute that execution incapacitates executed murders, but argue that life imprisonment without possibility of parole is equally incapacitating. • 42. Social And Cultural Context Of Psychology Katja Gavrilina Define the term Psychology and discuss its history in light of social and cultural context, highlighting the significance of different perspectives in Psychology. Psychology is defined as the scientific study of mental processes and human behaviour. It had roots in philosophy and physiology, before becoming an independent scientific discipline in the late 1800 s. Descartes (1641) suggested that the mind and the body work separately, together creating the human experience (Mastin L. 2008). This idea of so called dualism shaped a number of on going discussions in modern psychology, such as the nature nurture debate. In 1879 the first experimental laboratory was founded by Wilhelm Wundt, in Leipzig, Germany. This fundamental moment is referred to as the birth of Psychology. Until the 1900 s psychologists mainly studied the conscious human experience. Sigmund Freud, Austrian physician, caused a ground breaking shift in this field (1890 s 1930 s). He brought special importance to the unconscious mind, arguing that early childhood experiences and unconscious urges shape our adult personality. He emphasized the importance of sex and stages of early development. Contributing psychoanalysis in the 20th century, Freud had an enormous impact on the field of Psychology. His theory is unscientific and based on his individual cases, which makes it hard to generalize his assumptions. Freud s work was also criticized by feminist Karen Horney, ...
