Symbolism In John Knowles A Separate Peace
The book, A Separate Peace, by John Knowles can be interpreted more than one way. You can take it
literally, or look into the symbolic meaning of the landmarks of the Devon school, including the two
fearful sites Gene visited in the beginning. As stated in the book by Gene, everything in the time
period revolved around the war. This includes the great symbolism used, so mainly the tree, the Devon
River, and the Naguamsett River. The Devon and Naguamsett Rivers both run through the campus of
Devon. They are exact opposites (pg. 40). The Devon River is clean, freshwater, and well dammed up.
It is described as being a small, narrow river fringed by pine and birch (pg. 42) On the other hand, the
Naguamsett River is described as muddy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also the bank of the Devon River that the fearful tree is located (pg. 4 and pg. 43 44). Up to the
point of Finny s accident, it is one of the calmest spots on campus. In fact, Gene directly connects it to
the proud sight of Finny standing on one foot on the branch like a river god , and seeming to transcend
gravity. On the contrary, the Naguamsett is a rough saltwater river. It is the war itself: dark and
unknown. The Naguamsett is dangerous just like the war going on, and scary like the possibilities of
draft or enlistment. I also think that the rivers compare well to the two main characters, Finny and
Gene. Gene is rough and unpredictable (pg. 30 32, pg. 34, and pg. 48) like the Naguamsett River. He
is also the one to acknowledge the dark qualities of the war more. Gene is less stable (pg. 88 89), and
small things can quickly change his attitude. Finny, though, is a source of fun for everyone (pg. 18 19,
pg. 24, and 78 80). He is loyal, charming, and everyone knows he is a stable presence at Devon (pg.
10 and pg. 12 13). Finny is more like the Devon River, because he is adventurous, but controlled
enough so that he is a safe influence. The friends are completely opposite personalities like the Devon
and Naguamsett

Snap Membership Cards
Retailers across the nation now offer their customers loyalty or reward cards. Membership cards
provide the user with discounts, specials and other perks, but only when they are convenient to us .If
they become a hassle, the customer may choose to go to a competitor who doesn t require this type of
ID. Snap membership cards are a great alternative, as they conveniently sit on the user s key chain.
They are easily accessible and don t lead to inconvenience on the part of the user. For this and
numerous other reasons, businesses ranging from schools to hotels are now turning to snap

In the past, paper cards were popular with many store. Unfortunately, these cards would disintegrate
over time, especially when they were frequently used, and they wouldn t hold up when washed or
otherwise used in a way they weren t intended. This would require a new card to be issued, making it
harder for the business to track consumer behavior. All of these problems are resolved when plastic
membership cards are provided.
Available Options
The customer retains control over the information to be included on the card. Most companies opt to
include their business name and logo along with a membership ID number or the client s name. In
addition, the card may also have a magnetic strip, a QR code or a bar code, which allows the business
to gather information about the consumer and his or her behavior.
Contact Lanyards USA today to begin designing the membership cards. The company works with
clients to find the right card for their company s unique need and will work to ensure it complements
their branding. Snap off plastic cards are shown to increase business and improve customer loyalty.

Essay On Insanity Defense
The insanity defense is the most controversial criminal defense that is used in courts (The Insanity).
Ironically, it is the defense that is used the least. According to a professor of law at Santa Clara
University, Professor Alexander, the plea is only used one percent of the time, and works less than half
the time it is used (Steibel). In cases where it is used, it tends to get a lot of attention from the media
which provokes debate from the public (The Insanity). Critics have reservations concerning the
exploitation of the plea, namely that the defendants will use to get shorter sentences or to evade a
guilty verdict completely (The Insanity). However, according to a study done by the American
Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the majority of those who are judged not guilty by reason of
insanity do in fact suffer from a mental illness (The Insanity). History has shown us that we need the
insanity defense because a person cannot be held responsible for their crimes if they do not have the
mental capacity to understand what they have done wrong or cannot stop themselves from committing
this crime, it would be unjust to punish someone who does not deserve it.
The insanity defense is a plea from the defendant claiming he is not guilty as they do not have the
mental capacity to appreciate what they have done wrong or comprehend the fact that they have
committed a crime (Martin). The basis for insanity was introduced when Daniel M Naghten attempted
to assassinate the prime

Analysis Of The Bhagavad Gita
The Bhagavad Gita is an ancient Indian text that is very crucial to the historical background of the
Hindu religion. Hinduism is the most prevalent religion in India and the Bhagavad Gita is an epic that
those who follow the religion hold dear to their culture. The Bhagavad Gita is a section of a large
Indian epic called The Mahabharata, which is essentially a long epic vital to the Indian culture. Much
like most religious texts, the Bhagavad Gita is a story with multiple morals and symbolic situations
that people who follow the Hindu religion can use to follow their religion and better themselves as
people. It also goes over the ways one should go about working with a calm mind and sense of
purpose and how when you work you should go into it with a positive mindset. These are a few of the
major lessons from throughout the story of this epic.
The Bhagavad Gita has two main protagonists, Krishna and Arjuna, who are actually cousins with
each other through Kunti. Arjuna is a Pandava Prince and Krishna is actually a Hindu deity who goes
by the name of Vishnu. Krishna is a deity disguised as a human who befriends Arjuna within the story.
Despite one character being a god and the other being a mortal, there isn t a lot of personality
dissonance between the two. Arjuna depended on Krishna, who agreed to be his chariot driver during
the war, for guidance. He held nothing but respect for Krishna and Krishna respected him back.
During the story, Arjuna is doing all he can he can

Descriptive Essay About This Place
What happened?
Did the lights go out?
Why it s so dark and cold.
I am scared.
What is this place?
Where am I?
How did I reach here?

It s very lonely.
But at the same time I have a nostalgic feeling.
Why do I feel vague connection with this room?
This place reminds me of myself. This place is where I belong.
This similarity between me and this room is that loneliness is common between us.

But I wanted to relieve my anger, so I chose her. I cursed her and even my grandparents. I told she

How The Pollutants Affect Communities Living Along The Strait
Communities located along the Strait of Juan de Fuca are being affected by something that s hidden in
the water. It is something which communities have attempted to fix; however, there is still a lot that
needs to be done to completely reverse the effects it has made. This hidden thing is the pollutants
humans have intentionally and unintentionally dumped into the Strait of Juan De Fuca. The dumping
of sewage, the leaking of industrial waste, and the flushing of household waste are all contributing to
the build up of toxic pollutants in the Strait. Individuals will discovers the ways the Strait has been
affected by certain pollutants, will learn about the plans communities have started in an attempt to
mitigate the impact, and will find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can therefore conclude that negative side effects from water contamination extend to rural areas
where dumping sites may not be present.
When we look at the fish along the Strait we seem to see the same results. In a study done on Toxic
Contaminants in Dungeness Crab (2014), they found mercury and PCB s or Polychlorinated
Biphenyls in multiple different species of fish, two of the species being Chinook and Coho, which is
consumed by community s along the Sound (Carey, Niewolny, Lanksbury West). PCB s were used for
electrical equipment in the past. The manufacturing of PCB s was stopped in 1977. However, there is
evidence that shows PCB builds up in the environment ( PCBs ). This shows the impact waste can
have decades after it has been mitigated, and why it is important to stop any further damage.
Next there are shellfish beds that have been shut down due to their toxicity levels along the Strait. The
Washington Department of Health (DOH), has a map that allows individuals to see which areas are
closed for shellfish harvesting, both commercially and recreationally. Regarding Port Angeles, it is
shown as being completely closed to shellfish harvest due to pollution, with the primary cause being
Sewage Outfall. The pollutants in the water are absorbed by the shellfish along with any viruses and
bacteria, which then causes any human who consumes the

Heart And Peripheral Vascular System
Heart and Peripheral Vascular System Chest pain is a symptom that can represent several different
diseases from different organ systems. It is essential to determine which system is responsible for the
pain and state the severity of the patient s condition (Longo et al., 2011). When considering pain, there
are eleven different criteria one must consider and evaluate. These include the duration of the pain,
onset, localization, irradiation, character, intensity, alleviating factors, aggravating factors, triggering
factors, regularity and accompanying signs (Longo et al., 2011). These are all useful in determining
the etiology of the pain and taking the appropriate therapeutic steps. The causes of chest pain are

The disease is usually associated with a viral infection before the pain occurs. The pain is sharp and
positional with a pleuritic nature (Longo et al., 2011). The pain is relieved by leaning forward and
worse when the patient is lying down. In addition, the pain is associated with a pericardial rub.
Another pain that is specific is that of aortic dissection. The condition is life threatening and could be
worsened by thrombolytics or anti aggregates, hence it is necessary to detect. The pain is sharp,
tearing, and severe and radiates to the back. The pain is pleuritic in nature and associated with a loss
of pulses (Longo et al., 2011). Non cardiovascular causes of chest pain include musculoskeletal
conditions such as costochondritis. The pain is usually localized and the patient is able to pin point the
exact location of the pain. The pain is increased by inspiration and can be reproduced through
palpitation of the chest wall. Gastrointestinal causes of chest pain include GERD, which is due to an
incompetent lower esophageal sphincter. The pain is relieved by antacids and is exacerbated by the
consumption of chocolates and fatty foods. There are also pulmonary causes of chest pain and these
include pulmonary embolism. Pulmonary embolism is a sharp, sudden chest pain that is usually
pleuritic. In addition, the pain is accompanied by dyspnea, tachypnea, and hemoptysis (Longo et al.,

Control In A Tale Of Two Cities
Taking Control of your Life
In a lifetime, life will drag us down to the deepest, darkest, caverns, where the darkness suffocates any
sign of hope or light, but with hard work and dedication there will be a chance to submerge into a new
age of opportunity. This English historical fictional novel has evolved English composition, A Tale Of
Two Cities, by Charles Dickens demonstrates the birth of a new, changed life. Some of the most
successful people to ever live have been re born from losses of money, or moral. People like Bill
Gates, Walt Disney, Thomas Edison, and many more have dropped out of school, lost money, been
rejected by their families and companies only to rise and to crush the darkness with their hope. There s

During the time period of when A Tale of Two Cities was published Dickens was having a battle of
depression in his life. He saw no hope with his wife and had thought to have too many children to
keep watch of. He then in 1858 separated from his wife which was a year before publishing A Tale of
Two Cities. Dickens was able to transfer his emotions and feelings into his piece A Tale of Two Cities.
Sadly, Dickens life continued to go downhill as his brother died a few years later and other family
members continue to die. In 1860 Charles tried burning his personal papers . Him separating from his
wife was something widely public, but what wasn t known was that he had a mistress who was fairly
younger than him. Dickens in many of his writings gives characters who have lives of poverty, enter
through the gates of opportunity, but there is no happy, romantic ending. In Great Expectations Pip
grows to be a gentleman, but ends up being alone with nobody to love him or give affection, just like
Dickens. His heart becomes a stone wall with three layers of concrete to let no one in. During Charles
Dickens lifetime he was at the top of life and at the bottom of his life, resurrecting back from the
darkest place to what seemed to be a golden age, using characters Dr. Manette and Sydney

Stereotypes Of Rap Music
The course topics this session were all very interesting. The one that seemed to resonate with me the
most was the section about Rap Music. The way that the material was presented and how Rap Music
as a whole was dissected was really intriguing. One point that really stuck with me was the Our Buddy
discussion. It really opened my eyes to how the rap/hip hop industry markets the music to us. This
paper will show that the stereotype of Our Buddy in rap music is very real and how the material has
turned from an art form into and marketing ploy. I intend to support my argument with examples and
analysis by explaining how the stereotype can become accepted as a social norm. Music is not just
music, or just a source of entertainment; rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

white and black alike, to accept violence and to behave in a violent manner. Still, some will argue that
people will not allow the violent stereotypes in rap lyrics to influence them and that they know the
difference between fantasy and reality. I think that rap fans find great pleasure in believing the
authenticity of their favorite rapper which adds on to the issue at

It may be cheaper to purchase an older truck than a newer car, but in fuel and maintenance, the older
truck will cost more. The pros and cons of this decision are all personal. The lower upfront costs may
be more beneficial to one person than to another. A personal decision that I am struggling with right
now is with my credit rating. I have two credit cards that have a high balance. These are both in my ex
wife s possession. They are both delinquent on payments. I have to decide whether to just take out a
high interest loan to pay these off and renew my credit rating, or to let her financial decisions affect
my credit rating. The third principle of individual decision making is rational people think at the
margin (Mankiw, 2007). This states that the benefit must exceed the cost. A personal experience with
this would be that I have a truck that gets very low fuel mileage. I needed a car with better fuel
economy, but have bad credit. I weighed the pros and cons of buying a car with a high interest loan,
and felt that the benefit was worth the cost. While some would say there is nothing good to come from
this, those who make these choices must feel there is. Mankiw (2007) points to the difference in value
between water and diamonds. A marginal increase in a person s water supply will rarely come at a
significant cost to the person. However, a marginal increase in diamonds is extremely valuable. The
forth principle of individual decision making is

Similarities Between Donovan And Henri Cartier Bresson

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cooperative Banking
The term Urban Co operative Banks (UCBs), though not formally defined, refers to primary
cooperative banks located in urban and semi urban areas. These banks, till 1996, were allowed to lend
money only for non agricultural purposes. This distinction does not hold today. These banks were
traditionally centred among communities, localities work place groups. They essentially lent to small
borrowers and businesses. Today, their scope of operations has widened considerably.
The origins of the urban cooperative banking movement in India can be traced to the close of
nineteenth century when, inspired by the success of the experiments related to the cooperative
movement in Britain and the cooperative credit movement in Germany such societies were ... Show

Recently the problems faced by a few large UCBs have highlighted some of the difficulties these
banks face and policy endeavours are geared to consolidating and strengthening this sector and

COMPANY PROFILE
I. Historical Perspective
The cooperative movement in India started a century ago with the enactment of Cooperative Societies
Act in 1904. Interestingly, legal status was conferred on credit societies keeping in view, in particular,
the needs of the agricultural sector. Nevertheless, Sir Ibbetson, who piloted the legislation observed:
We recognize that artisans, employees on small pay and other persons in towns may very properly be
admitted to the benefits of our legislation .
Although joint stock banks opened branches in urban and semi urban areas, they did not find it
advantageous to cater to the banking and credit requirements of the urban middle/lower class
comprising small traders/ businessmen, artisans, factory workers, salaried persons with limited
incomes etc. The inability of joint stock banks to appreciate and cater

In J. D. Salinger s Just Before The War With The Eskimos
As researchers have dug deeper into the roots of rejection, they ve found surprising evidence that the
pain of being excluded is not so different from the pain of physical injury (Weir, 2012). J. D. Salinger

society. One of the many characters in the short story, Franklin, had been rejected by Ginnie s older

For example, a homosexual couple was refused service in a flower shop for being gay. Flower shop

Social Change In Japan Essay
The Japanese culture has allowed for very little diversity. This started very early in their history. The
social controls used to eliminate diversity are the family, the power of gender, the poor treatment of
minority groups, the corporate Japanese mentality, and the respect required by people in authority.
However, due to globalization and the shrinking of the world, Japanese society is starting to make the
change to diversity. The individualistic mentality shared by the new technology driven younger
generation is putting pressure on the old Japanese status quo. The transformation is happening very
slow, but as the population ages and the old conservatives are being replaced by the new liberals, the

Equal rights were not granted to women until the Occupation Era following World War II. The
modifications that were made to the existing Meiji Constitution gave women the same rights as men
for the first time in the country s history. Prior to that they were seen as servants, dominated by their
husbands, in what can only be described as a master / slave relationship. The new Japanese
Constitution of 1947 empowered the Japanese women for the first time in the countries history.
Minorities were persecute throughout Japan s past. Native Anglo s were hunted down and slaughtered.
The surviving numbers were driven north onto the smaller surrounding islands. The closed era of
Tokogawa Shogunate tried to remove all of the diversity within society. Any thought other than the
Shinto/Buddhist/Confucianism that dominated was society was expelled. The violent massacre of
Christians during this period only supported conformity to the ideals of the ruling class. The stance
they took on foreign thought and technology insured that no outside influences would affect Japanese
culture. This view lasted over 200 years until the country was opened to foreigners again. The long
period the Japanese spent with no diversity combined with the loyalty and honor themes of Bushido,
made it impossible for them to accept diversity after the country was opened again.
The xenophobic sentiment of the Tokogawa Era only added to the strict view that Japanese had of
individuality. The feeling was solidified

2. Feminist Criticism and Angela Carter
In order to better understand the scope of this theses, this chapter introduces the literary criticism that
is used to explain the position of women in a short story collection The Bloody Chamber by Angela
Carter through the notion of cannibalism. In her short story collection, Carter deals with issues that
concern feminism as the movement, and women as the part of the society. In order to understand
Angela Carters short story collection and the way women are represented and treated in The Bloody
Chamber, this thesis uses feminist literary criticism that is explained in the following paragraphs.

Social Media Negatives
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat are just a few social media websites and applications that
have transformed the World Wide Web. Social media is defined as websites or applications that allow
online users to produce and share content. Of the 7.6 billion global population, 2.46 billion of them

matters. Some of the most notable Congressional investigations include probes into KKK activities,
the sinking of the Titanic, and of course, Wall Street banking practices. Of course the most memorable
investigation is that which is now known as the Watergate scandal under President Nixon. Alleged
malfeasance that took place in the executive branch was the main cause of the probe. It was
instrumental in bringing about the resignation of President Nixon. The process of a Congressional
investigation is quite lengthy in nature. For the most part, each select, or special committee enables the

trials include the executive branch s refusal to cooperate, and the misusage of probes due to partisan
politics. Historically, congressional investigations are an important oversight tool that is protected as

Marking Territory Character Analysis
In Marking Territory, the author juxtaposes heated character interactions with private moments in
order to show how both the other Wes and his mother try to appear tough while secretly feeling hurt
and afraid. Prior to Wes s argument with his mother regarding his affairs in the drug business, he had a
heated encounter with his brother Tony on the same matter. Ending in a violence, anger, and
disappointment on the part of Tony, Wes ponders his relationship with Tony: Wes knew that he was
disappointing his brother, which hurt more than the beating that he had just taken. Wes was so
confused. He loved and respected his brother. Tony was the closest thing Wes had to a role model. But
the more he copied him, the more Tony pushed back. Wes wanted to be just like Tony. ... Show more

response was by all means what one would expect; that is, the mixture of sadness, fear,

Jean Toomer- An African American Writer
Jean Toomer was an African American writer. He was known as the leading American writer of the
1920s after he established his book Cane which inspired authors of the Harlem Renaissance. Jean
Toomer was born on December 26, 1894 as Nathan Pinchback Toomer. His mother was the governor
of Louisiana during Reconstruction and the first U.S. governor of African American descent (Jones 1).
In 1985, Toomer s father abandoned him and his mother. He forced them to live with his mother cruel

poems provide transitioning from one narrative to another, incorporating myths and symbols.
Toomer is a controversial literary and cultural figure who gets criticized by people for rejecting his
race. He is praised by others for the confines of rigid ethnic distinctions. Toomer s rejection of race
drew sharp criticism from many people, especially from members of the African American
community. They found him being self loathing rather than racial unification (Claypool 2). Toomer
has been criticized for failing to write about the experience after Cane. Many people said he denied his
African American heritage out of shame and cowardice (Claypool 4). Many critics have credited his
work with ushering in the Harlem Renaissance noting the book s representations of African American
characters and culture. Others have located it within the lost generation owing to its literary
experimentation, romantic primitivism, and its critiques of postwar values (Jones 3). The analysis of
Cane contains Toomer denying his racial heritage. This book also contains the extracts from most of
the important early Cane criticism (Golding 3).

Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant:
Motivating in Good Times and Bad
Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant is facing the problem of not being able to keep their employees motivated
in both good and bad times. Before the problem occurred, Ron Bent, the plant manager, had adopted
the Scanlon Plan. The Scanlon Plan was an incentive plan used to motivate employees and to drive
changes in their behavior and attitudes. The plan consisted of monthly bonuses for employee
productivity, communication meetings, a committee to encourage and evaluate employee s
suggestions, and overall improved working conditions. Employees were satisfied with their jobs and

When the plan no longer was enough to motivate the employees, Bent knew the plan needed to be
revised. He had said, A Scanlon program won t perpetuate itself. You have to give it a shot in the arm
every so often whenever the work force needs it (Beer and Collins, p. 6). To revise the plan, Bent
needed to listen to the employee s complaints. Part of the Scanlon plan was to listen to suggestions of
the employees, so the complaints should have been just as important to listen to and evaluate. The
employee complaints were about the distrust of bonus calculations and questions of fairness. Bent and
his management team should have seen the complaints as a suggestion for improving the bonus plan.
Another alternative would be to change the organizational factors of the company. Bent could do this
by using the Job Characteristics Model. Due to the Scanlon Plan, the company had already met the
fifth characteristic of feedback, but Bent could also look at ways to improve the autonomy, task
significance, task identity, and skill variety of his company. By improving those characteristics, it
could help the Scanlon Plan to further motivate employees. Lastly, Bent could

Write An Essay On The ARMY Doctrine
Introduction In ARMY Doctrine Publication 1 The ARMY it is stated that weapons of mass
destruction are the greatest threat to our homeland. (U.S. ARMY, 2012) As a society we have
weaponized everything from Chemical agents, Biological agents, Radiological devices, and of course
Nuclear bombs. Chemical warfare agents such as sarin gas are near the top of the list of these WMD s.
Originally sarin was developed in Germany in 1938 as a pesticide, and later classified as a nerve
agent. Sarin was intended to be used as a pesticide but military and terrorist groups quickly took
advantage of the high volatility rate, 17,000 mg/m3 at 25 oC, and created weaponized containers that
would release this deadly gas on their targets. With a chemical formula of CH3 P(=O)( F)(
OCH(CH3)2), sarin is an organophosphorus ester compound that produces potent and irreversible
inhibition of cholinesterase. (PubChem.com, 2017) It is this irreversible process that we must fight to

to implement change. I covered some basic concepts that are important to personal skills development
and some leadership behaviors.
To me, a leader is somebody who exhibits exceptional devotion to his or her team, and is willing to do
whatever it takes to unite the team. A leader injects a feeling of positivity and guides others to achieve
predetermined goals. This leadership is the process in which a person influence a group (adherents) to
accomplish a shared objective. The objective is achieved by mutual affirmation and a cohesive
behavior. One of the end goals of leadership is to get results through others, and the method for
achieving this include the ability to develop goal oriented, cohesive groups. Since knowledge is power

Analysis Of The Plague Of Doves
Pluto, North Dakota does not exist. It is not a current town in the United States, nor are there any
records of any area in North Dakota referring to itself as Pluto. By inventing this setting for the 2008
novel The Plague of Doves, author Louise Erdrich gives herself incredible freedom to develop a
limitless narrative. Readers familiar with the general reputation of North Dakota will recognize many
of the expectations. Erdrich s town of Pluto is rural and conservative, with persistently palpable
tension between the predominantly Caucasian population and the victimized minority of ethnically
Native Americans. Much about the plot and perspective of this novel seems to rely on its structure
around many narrators. The Plague of Doves is told from multiple perspectives and the timelines jump
indiscriminately, sometimes with plots separated by decades seeming to exist in tandem. While these
literary elements are remarkable, informative, and provide the novel with a significantly unique
identity, the importance of setting cannot be overlooked. As focus oscillates between narrators and
time periods, it is the fictional town of Pluto that remains the foundational factor. Without this shared
setting, the novel could unravel into disparate themes. Yet readers subconsciously recognize the
importance of place. As the crimes and social injustices repeatedly occur in a central location, the
novel becomes less about the people and more about the legacy they inherit. The characters

  • 2. Symbolism In John Knowles A Separate Peace The book, A Separate Peace, by John Knowles can be interpreted more than one way. You can take it literally, or look into the symbolic meaning of the landmarks of the Devon school, including the two fearful sites Gene visited in the beginning. As stated in the book by Gene, everything in the time period revolved around the war. This includes the great symbolism used, so mainly the tree, the Devon River, and the Naguamsett River. The Devon and Naguamsett Rivers both run through the campus of Devon. They are exact opposites (pg. 40). The Devon River is clean, freshwater, and well dammed up. It is described as being a small, narrow river fringed by pine and birch (pg. 42) On the other hand, the Naguamsett River is described as muddy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also the bank of the Devon River that the fearful tree is located (pg. 4 and pg. 43 44). Up to the point of Finny s accident, it is one of the calmest spots on campus. In fact, Gene directly connects it to the proud sight of Finny standing on one foot on the branch like a river god , and seeming to transcend gravity. On the contrary, the Naguamsett is a rough saltwater river. It is the war itself: dark and unknown. The Naguamsett is dangerous just like the war going on, and scary like the possibilities of draft or enlistment. I also think that the rivers compare well to the two main characters, Finny and Gene. Gene is rough and unpredictable (pg. 30 32, pg. 34, and pg. 48) like the Naguamsett River. He is also the one to acknowledge the dark qualities of the war more. Gene is less stable (pg. 88 89), and small things can quickly change his attitude. Finny, though, is a source of fun for everyone (pg. 18 19, pg. 24, and 78 80). He is loyal, charming, and everyone knows he is a stable presence at Devon (pg. 10 and pg. 12 13). Finny is more like the Devon River, because he is adventurous, but controlled enough so that he is a safe influence. The friends are completely opposite personalities like the Devon and Naguamsett ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Essay On Insanity Defense The insanity defense is the most controversial criminal defense that is used in courts (The Insanity). Ironically, it is the defense that is used the least. According to a professor of law at Santa Clara University, Professor Alexander, the plea is only used one percent of the time, and works less than half the time it is used (Steibel). In cases where it is used, it tends to get a lot of attention from the media which provokes debate from the public (The Insanity). Critics have reservations concerning the exploitation of the plea, namely that the defendants will use to get shorter sentences or to evade a guilty verdict completely (The Insanity). However, according to a study done by the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the majority of those who are judged not guilty by reason of insanity do in fact suffer from a mental illness (The Insanity). History has shown us that we need the insanity defense because a person cannot be held responsible for their crimes if they do not have the mental capacity to understand what they have done wrong or cannot stop themselves from committing this crime, it would be unjust to punish someone who does not deserve it. The insanity defense is a plea from the defendant claiming he is not guilty as they do not have the mental capacity to appreciate what they have done wrong or comprehend the fact that they have committed a crime (Martin). The basis for insanity was introduced when Daniel M Naghten attempted to assassinate the prime ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of The Bhagavad Gita The Bhagavad Gita is an ancient Indian text that is very crucial to the historical background of the Hindu religion. Hinduism is the most prevalent religion in India and the Bhagavad Gita is an epic that those who follow the religion hold dear to their culture. The Bhagavad Gita is a section of a large Indian epic called The Mahabharata, which is essentially a long epic vital to the Indian culture. Much like most religious texts, the Bhagavad Gita is a story with multiple morals and symbolic situations that people who follow the Hindu religion can use to follow their religion and better themselves as people. It also goes over the ways one should go about working with a calm mind and sense of purpose and how when you work you should go into it with a positive mindset. These are a few of the major lessons from throughout the story of this epic. The Bhagavad Gita has two main protagonists, Krishna and Arjuna, who are actually cousins with each other through Kunti. Arjuna is a Pandava Prince and Krishna is actually a Hindu deity who goes by the name of Vishnu. Krishna is a deity disguised as a human who befriends Arjuna within the story. Despite one character being a god and the other being a mortal, there isn t a lot of personality dissonance between the two. Arjuna depended on Krishna, who agreed to be his chariot driver during the war, for guidance. He held nothing but respect for Krishna and Krishna respected him back. During the story, Arjuna is doing all he can he can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Hence I gave up on myself, and abandoned any hope of ever making friends. Just became shut in otaku. Playing games and watching anime. I even behaved like a delinquent. I became what people thought, I was. Than mom came back in an urgent business trip near hometown. She was disheartened to see my condition. After meeting mom, I suddenly cried and told her everything, like a baby. Complained and complained about everything and everyone, how they treated me. I almost blamed her for giving her looks. I don t know what I was saying, I know it s not her fault, if I had her looks. But I wanted to relieve my anger, so I chose her. I cursed her and even my grandparents. I told she looks like demon and because of that I was born as demon. I was pissed and my mouth went out of control. I told her that because of her scary face, even daddy left her and she deserved it. • 8. How The Pollutants Affect Communities Living Along The Strait Communities located along the Strait of Juan de Fuca are being affected by something that s hidden in the water. It is something which communities have attempted to fix; however, there is still a lot that needs to be done to completely reverse the effects it has made. This hidden thing is the pollutants humans have intentionally and unintentionally dumped into the Strait of Juan De Fuca. The dumping of sewage, the leaking of industrial waste, and the flushing of household waste are all contributing to the build up of toxic pollutants in the Strait. Individuals will discovers the ways the Strait has been affected by certain pollutants, will learn about the plans communities have started in an attempt to mitigate the impact, and will find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can therefore conclude that negative side effects from water contamination extend to rural areas where dumping sites may not be present. When we look at the fish along the Strait we seem to see the same results. In a study done on Toxic Contaminants in Dungeness Crab (2014), they found mercury and PCB s or Polychlorinated Biphenyls in multiple different species of fish, two of the species being Chinook and Coho, which is consumed by community s along the Sound (Carey, Niewolny, Lanksbury West). PCB s were used for electrical equipment in the past. The manufacturing of PCB s was stopped in 1977. However, there is evidence that shows PCB builds up in the environment ( PCBs ). This shows the impact waste can have decades after it has been mitigated, and why it is important to stop any further damage. Next there are shellfish beds that have been shut down due to their toxicity levels along the Strait. The Washington Department of Health (DOH), has a map that allows individuals to see which areas are closed for shellfish harvesting, both commercially and recreationally. Regarding Port Angeles, it is shown as being completely closed to shellfish harvest due to pollution, with the primary cause being Sewage Outfall. The pollutants in the water are absorbed by the shellfish along with any viruses and bacteria, which then causes any human who consumes the ... We just happen to show a little more skin when we get to the ladies. although still a big issue today this was a major concern for the parents buying comics for their children they did not want to buy something for there kids that was showing women with well developed assets who were wearing skin tight clothing or showing as much skin as they posible could without having the female character just be completely nude. Another source of much indignation is how many female characters, when they are not getting mangled or raped, are used as little more than eye candy for the male masses sex symbols whose personalities are as flat as their cup sizes are disproportionately huge, whose roles are as thin as the fabric of their poorly designed, anatomy hugging ... Engston Auto Mirrors Plant Nicole Ferrin October 13, 2008 BUSA 305 Case Analysis Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant: Motivating in Good Times and Bad Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant is facing the problem of not being able to keep their employees motivated in both good and bad times. Before the problem occurred, Ron Bent, the plant manager, had adopted the Scanlon Plan. The Scanlon Plan was an incentive plan used to motivate employees and to drive changes in their behavior and attitudes. The plan consisted of monthly bonuses for employee productivity, communication meetings, a committee to encourage and evaluate employee s suggestions, and overall improved working conditions. Employees were satisfied with their jobs and motivated to be productive. Over time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the plan no longer was enough to motivate the employees, Bent knew the plan needed to be revised. He had said, A Scanlon program won t perpetuate itself. You have to give it a shot in the arm every so often whenever the work force needs it (Beer and Collins, p. 6). To revise the plan, Bent needed to listen to the employee s complaints. Part of the Scanlon plan was to listen to suggestions of the employees, so the complaints should have been just as important to listen to and evaluate. The employee complaints were about the distrust of bonus calculations and questions of fairness. Bent and his management team should have seen the complaints as a suggestion for improving the bonus plan. Another alternative would be to change the organizational factors of the company. Bent could do this by using the Job Characteristics Model. Due to the Scanlon Plan, the company had already met the fifth characteristic of feedback, but Bent could also look at ways to improve the autonomy, task significance, task identity, and skill variety of his company. By improving those characteristics, it could help the Scanlon Plan to further motivate employees. Lastly, Bent could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Write An Essay On The ARMY Doctrine Introduction In ARMY Doctrine Publication 1 The ARMY it is stated that weapons of mass destruction are the greatest threat to our homeland. (U.S. ARMY, 2012) As a society we have weaponized everything from Chemical agents, Biological agents, Radiological devices, and of course Nuclear bombs. Chemical warfare agents such as sarin gas are near the top of the list of these WMD s. Originally sarin was developed in Germany in 1938 as a pesticide, and later classified as a nerve agent. Sarin was intended to be used as a pesticide but military and terrorist groups quickly took advantage of the high volatility rate, 17,000 mg/m3 at 25 oC, and created weaponized containers that would release this deadly gas on their targets. With a chemical formula of CH3 P(=O)( F)( OCH(CH3)2), sarin is an organophosphorus ester compound that produces potent and irreversible inhibition of cholinesterase. (PubChem.com, 2017) It is this irreversible process that we must fight to prevent before an attack, like the recent attacks in Syria that are a foresight of how vial chemicals can ... The munitions hold two containers inside the first container is difluoro and inside the second container is isopropanol which looks like CH3F2OP + C3H8O → C4H10FO2P + HF. In this binary reaction there is double displacement going on when the isopropanol knocks off one of the Fluorine atoms attaches itself to the rest of the structure and creates a sarin molecule and a hydrogen fluoride molecule. The heat in this process is exothermic and ideal to react at 115 degrees Celcius. There are many reactions to create sarin such as using dichloro in place of difluoro and reacting it with sodium fluoride and isopropanol. Content of the course included effective communications, setting goals, decision making service leadership and many more leadership styles, and effective ways to implement change. To me, a leader is somebody who exhibits exceptional devotion to his or her team, and is willing to do whatever it takes to unite the team. A leader injects a feeling of positivity and guides others to achieve predetermined goals. This leadership is the process in which a person influence a group (adherents) to accomplish a shared objective. The objective is achieved by mutual affirmation and a cohesive behavior. One of the end goals of leadership is to get results through others, and the method for achieving this include the ability to develop goal oriented, cohesive groups. This is not generally correct. I think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In leadership, leaders get his power from his group members. • 35. Analysis Of The Plague Of Doves Pluto, North Dakota does not exist. It is not a current town in the United States, nor are there any records of any area in North Dakota referring to itself as Pluto. By inventing this setting for the 2008 novel The Plague of Doves, author Louise Erdrich gives herself incredible freedom to develop a limitless narrative. Readers familiar with the general reputation of North Dakota will recognize many of the expectations. Erdrich s town of Pluto is rural and conservative, with persistently palpable tension between the predominantly Caucasian population and the victimized minority of ethnically Native Americans. Much about the plot and perspective of this novel seems to rely on its structure around many narrators. The Plague of Doves is told from multiple perspectives and the timelines jump indiscriminately, sometimes with plots separated by decades seeming to exist in tandem. While these literary elements are remarkable, informative, and provide the novel with a significantly unique identity, the importance of setting cannot be overlooked. As focus oscillates between narrators and time periods, it is the fictional town of Pluto that remains the foundational factor. Without this shared setting, the novel could unravel into disparate themes. Yet readers subconsciously recognize the importance of place. As the crimes and social injustices repeatedly occur in a central location, the novel becomes less about the people and more about the legacy they inherit. The characters ... My heart was troubled about going east, yet I knew that I must go. (Benet, p. 293). John knows going to these places is a sin, but for some reason he seems to knot agree with this. As the story progresses, John is now a man and goes off into his journey. He searches for signs; his first sign was an eagle that went east. John knows it is a sin to go east, but his gut is telling him he should go. However, he believes this was a bad spirit trying to convince him to the wrong thing.
