Democracy In American Democracy
American Democracy
Democracies have been around for hundreds of years, dating back before the word democracy was
created by the ancient Greeks. Democracies give the citizens of the nation power and let them have a
say in politics. Also, the people have many freedoms guaranteed to them, unlike other types of
government. The people elect local, state, and national government officials. The local government
deals with many different issues. State government shares most of its power with the national
government. Lastly, the national government oversees all the smaller forms of government in the land.
[Thesis] American Democracy fits the definition of democracy because the people are represented
fairly through local, state, and national government. To begin, local government acts on behalf on
specific areas known as counties, towns, or districts (local government). The people vote on
councilmen to represent our county, town, or city. For example, the councilmen vote on and determine
how much money our school can spend. They can also enact on our county taxes. Local government
cannot pass or enforce laws that might put judgment on a much bigger area other than its own(local
government). For example, if the city tax for Opp is nine cents, they cannot impose that same tax on a
nearby city like Kinston. The citizens have a choice in who they vote for to make sure we are
represented fairly. As a person who makes up a part of the county, district, or town, the people all

Temple Expiatori De Familia Research Paper
When one thinks of a cathedral, he or she may not bring La Sagrada de Familia as their first choice.
The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia (Expiatory Temple of the Holy Family) of Barcelona is
far more unique than most other temples or cathedrals all around the world. It has been commissioned
by successor Antonio Gaudi, the conservative society, and anyone who happened to be generous
enough to fall for Gaudi s begging. Antoni Gaudi was the mastermind behind this beautiful, Gothic
style church, that is the most talked about building in Spain, and attracts roughly 2.8 million visitors
per year. It has even been visited by Pope Benedict XVI, who named Sagrada Familia a basilica in
November of 2010. From miles away, in any direction, one can see the tops of the eighteen towers of
the temple. As one approaches the monument, he or she will notice biblical scenes carved entirely
throughout the whole building. As one walks through the doors, he or she will be overwhelmed by the
feeling of walking through a wooded forest. Despite all the amazing work this temple has endured, it
is still under construction after nearly 150 years and is estimated to be finished entirely in 2030. Even

Christ. Among the Central Tower, there are seventeen more towers that rise up to over 100 meters tall.

towers, twelve of them represent the Apostles and they run along the three facades, and the other five

The Shift Of Modern Technology

The Shift of Modern Technology Technology has always been changing and evolving. Whether it is
discovering ways to cultivate plants and animals or if it is developing the smallest nano technology to
be used in space, there is never a time where scientists and inventors are not coming up with new
things to better our quality of life and to change how we work in society. The last decade has been
especially important to the development of technology in many different aspects such as healthcare, or
globalization. The contemporary shift of technology within the last decade has been a revolutionary
stepping stone into the possibilities of the future. The changes in healthcare have been excitingly
revolutionary and act as a very large gate into the possibilities of the future for health services. The
way that hospitals store their data has changed monumentally. This change allows for faster
accessibility to health information of a patient and even allows for a patient to access their own health
records if they want to. This change in speed is very different from the old paper records of the past,
and the more things that health services moves on to a technological database, the safer the
information is and the faster it can be obtained. Another thing that all this information being quickly
available is that healthcare is receivable almost anywhere in this day and age. With all this freedom,
some people in the healthcare

Twelve Angry Men Plot Essay
Plot: Twelve Angry Men is an interesting and exciting jury room confrontation in which an quot;open
and shut case quot; becomes strenuous as twelve strangers scuffle for answers. The trial involves a
nineteen year old boy, who is suspect of killing his father in a late night altercation with an
extraordinary knife. His fate now lies in the hands of 12 jurors, each with his own determination to
solve the case and reveal the truth. As the session takes its course, evidence becomes scrutinised,
tempers rise, and the jury room erupts in a shouting brawl because one such juror finds reasonable
doubts in the two testimonies that were deemed credible enough to convict. In his fight for an
acquittal, the singled out juror found that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nonetheless, he maintained a subtle poise and composure during the cession, and with such
confidence, he asked for a revote. The outcome was successfully manipulated, with the votes now
standing at 11 not guilty and 1 guilty.
Methods of Persuasion: The methods of persuasion used in the jury session consisted of Davis s
ability to open the others eyes to the inconsistencies of the re examination of the testimonies. It was a
real fight to the end, because Davis could have easily given up. He begins by saying that he quot;only
wants to talk. quot; He sheds some light on the other jurors when he undermines the testimony of a
woman who claimed to have seen the boy. Davis asserts that she could not have seen him at all
because time was too short. With the time given, she had to wake up, and put her glasses. They all
soon found out that there was not enough time to do so. A neighbor also claimed to have been under
the house of the father who and said he heard the murder. Shortly thereafter, the man said he ran

Language Acquisition Of Language Development Essay
Language is perceived as the way humans communicate through the use of spoken words, it involves
particular system and styles in which we interact with one another (Oxford 2009).
Children s acquisition of language has long been considered one of the uniquely defining
characteristics of human behaviour. Even today, it is widely thought that children acquire their native
language from the imitation of their parents, caregivers or the people in their daily environment. In
this essay I will go through what the typical stages of language acquisition in children are, I will
explain and show examples of cognitive disabilities and other difficulties in acquiring language, show
the theories that explore how language is acquired and see if these theories account for children who
are not cognitively impaired but who still do not acquire language.
In nearly all cases, children s language development follows a predictable sequence. For example, at 6
8 months babbling occurs, 9 18 months a child is at a one word stage or holophrastic stage, 18 24
months a two word stage and by 24 30 months they are at a telegraphic stage where they can form
sentence. This is the case with most children however some children experience some difficulties in
acquiring language. If a child has not spoken by the time they are 2years of age, it is advised that they
be brought to a doctor to be assessed. The most common reason for late or deteriorating speech is a
hearing problem. If this is not the

Character Development In The Scarlet Letter By Nathanial...
The Scarlet Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne often uses character development to foreshadow the
inevitable outcome of the novel. Hawthorne wrote, And now, through the chamber which these
spectral thoughts had made so ghastly, glided Hester Prynne leading along little Pearl, in her scarlet
garb, and pointing her forefinger, first at the scarlet letter on her bosom, and then at the clergyman s
own chest. This quote foreshadows the ending of the novel, including Dimmesdale s confession and
demise. Hester Prynne and Dimmesdale both show a strong development of character throughout the
novel which all contribute to the final outcome. In this society and period of time, Hester is considered
to have deviated from the norm. Many valued and followed Puritan beliefs and it appeared as if Hester
had strayed from the path. When the novel began, she was separated from the rest of the Puritan
world, and behind the wooden door. The door symbolized sin; those on the inside have violated the
traditional beliefs of a faithful Puritan. Hester was punished for committing adultery, and therefore
was isolated from the rest of society. She is ashamed of her actions, and because of them, she is
required to wear a scarlet letter upon her breast. After attempts of covering the letter, she is informed
that it is part of her punishment and must be worn at all times. Hester is embarrassed and feels weak
due to the presence of the letter, however, this feeling soon changes as she realizes who she

Bauer Performance Sports Ltd.
Bauer Performance Sports Ltd. is a company based out of Exeter, New Hampshire that produces ice
hockey equipment, fitness and recreational skates, and apparel. They are best known for their skates
but after acquiring multiple companies they have expanded into manufacturing wide range of
equipment from skates to hockey sticks. The company has expanded to new levels and now has the

to adapt and get better year after year. It is the same for a worker, once they are not up to date on
everything they need to know they became more of a liability for the company. This is because they
are not as efficient as another work who would be up to date and could replace them. This is the same
for manufactures of products, the product they are selling must be the best or top of the line so that it
is appealing to the consumers. Another big part of issues manufactures have is that they need to have
more than one version of the product. When marketing to a large number of consumers the product
has to be the most appeal one on the shelf and in their price range. Bauer has to maintain a product
line that will be affordable to a player who is trying a sports for his first time all the way up to the
professional players. Bauer was founded in 1927 in the town of Kitchener, Ontario. They changed
hockey skates forever when they developed the first skate with the blade attached. In

If you are a student, you know that no matter what, after taking a class, failed or succeeded, you will

being in the USA has already challenged and confused my person. I was not ready to affront a world

We could not get out. This explains how black men are stuck with no control over their body. As a
black man, the way to succeed the street is violence named the struggle if you decide not to, the street

That brings us to thinking about the new Jim Crow that is somehow explaining how many black

Examples Of Academic Integrity
Academic integrity is very important in terms of an individual completing his or her work. In other
words, the individual should be completely honest and do their best to complete their work without
plagiarism or finding an easy way to get the job done. It is considered unethical to do something that
prevents an individual from being honest about their work. For example, John is worried about getting
a D in his Spanish class if he does not do well on his midterm. His GPA will also be affected if he gets
a D. On the day of his midterm, Jane, a student in John s Spanish class, sits by him. She notices that he
is looking at papers in his backpack secretively and assumes he is cheating. However, Jane does not
know what to do due to the fact that John helped her on a project the previous semester. If Jane were

The Flight From Conversation Summary
In the article The Flight from Conversation, Sherry Turkle makes a point that technology has changed
people in their ways of interacting with each other. She states that people have lost the skills for
interacting face to face because they prefer to text or email each other. In the text, the author spent
over fifteen years studying people and asking them about their lives. She also found that cellphones
have changed what people do and who they are. People are accustomed to technology, it is a new way
of being alone together. This means that people could be sitting at a table together, but not having a

explained below:
Profit (π) = Total Revenue (TR) Total Cost (TC) = P×Q TC
According to the FOC of profit maximization, we get dπ/dQ = (d(TR))/dQ (d(TC))/dQ [Here P is not

A monopolist can also perform price discrimination. When different prices are charged by a seller for
essentially the same product it is known as price discrimination. The monopolist often wants to
segment the market according to the price elasticity of demand (e) and charge higher prices for those
consumers with lower elasticity of demand, according to the mark up formula. Therefore Futures
Unlimited Corporation can also discriminate its price. Direct price discrimination can again be sub
divided into three categories first degree price discrimination, second degree price discrimination, and
third degree price discrimination. With first degree price discrimination, every firm would like to
charge a different price to each of its customers. If possible, the firm would charge each consumer the
maximum price that consumer is willing to pay for each unit bought. The maximum price the
consumers are willing to pay is known as the customer s reservation price. The act of charging each
customer his or her reservation price is called first degree price discrimination or perfect price
discrimination. In second degree price discrimination, price varies in according to quantity demanded.
Within some markets, each consumer purchases many units of the good over any given period, and the
consumer s demand declines with the number of units purchased. In this situation, a firm can
discriminate according to the number consumed. This is

Essay about Emory Healthcare s New System to Reduce Errors
During the 1980 s and 90 s there were many studies done that showed that medical errors were
occurring in inpatient and outpatient settings at a very high rate. Computer Provider Order Entry
(CPOE) systems were designed to reduce or eliminate mistakes made by using hand written orders.
The CPOE system allows users to directly enter their orders into the system on computers which are
then sent directly to the healthcare providers that will be implementing the orders. Previously orders
were placed by writing on order sheets on patient charts. This was sometimes done by the doctor or by
a nurse acting on behalf of the doctor. Order sheets were then signed by the doctor and then the
information was input into the patient s record. This left ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some doctors believed that the CPOE system did not improve the quality of care as you needed to be
computer literate in order to use it.
The change from the manual system to the CPOE system was met with mixed reactions.
Classes were held to train employees with the system and Emory used Application Content Experts,
healthcare workers that had received special training in the CPOE system, as assistants to those
needing help, and a special hotline was set up to help with any questions.
In my opinion it was a good decision for Emory to implement the CPOE system as it will limit the
number of errors occurring and in the end save costs and lives. It was also a good decision to roll out
system out in one of their smaller units as an initial trial run. They were able to work out some of the
bugs in the system by doing so. They also did a good job with their training and the ACE assistants
and implementing the hot line.
Although all of those steps were positive, they should have offered additional training and they should
make extra training available for those that request it. In order for Emory to have a smooth roll out
when they introduce the CPOE system at EUHM they will need to more clearly define the roles of the
users of the system in order to reduce redundancies in the orders and clarifying the responsibilities of

Description
One of my favorite things to eat is breakfast cereal. I have been a cereal eater since I was a kid and
have chosen to do my paper on the breakfast cereal industry. The NAICS code is 311320. The SIC
code is 2043 Cereal Breakfast Foods. The SIC gives a description of establishments as primarily
engaged in manufacturing cereal breakfast foods and related preparations, except breakfast bars.
Cereal breakfast foods include: coffee substitutes made grain, hulled corn, farina, granola (except bars

Although the Federal Department of Agriculture plays a major role in the production and distribution
of cereal, it is not the only government office that is involved in the breakfast cereal industry. The
breakfast cereal industry is also subject to the antitrust laws that are established by the Federal Trade
Commission.
The Federal Trade Commission deals with economic issues of Americans, including consumer
protection and competition jurisdiction. There are many rules and regulation set forth by this
organization to help govern the breakfast cereal industry. When there is a proposed violation of the
antitrust laws or higher than normal pricing on cereal, the Federal Trade Commission applies the laws.
In 1996, the Federal Trade Commission negotiated a settlement to keep cereal prices competitive.
General Mills had acquired Ralcorp, the producer of the Chex brand cereal. With the acquisition of
Ralcorp, General Mills now had 31 percent of the breakfast cereal market. If the Federal Trade
Commission did not take action, this acquisition would have restricted the entry of new private label
cereal products. The restricting of new private label cereal products would dramatically reduce the
competition in the breakfast cereal market. This would have resulted in higher prices for Chex brand
cereals (Federal Trade Commission, 1996).

The Big Apple Can Be Rough At Times
Stand Strong Leila
Growing up in the Big Apple can be rough at times; especially for 17 year old Leila Ashford. Leila s
mom died when she was 10. She now lives in a tiny apartment with her father. Her father works in a

her dad got really upset and quit his job. Ever since, there hasn t been any extra money for Leila to

Instead of being outgoing, like most of the students at her school, Leila was quiet and shy. She didn t
have any friends because she devoted all her time to dancing. All of her teachers tried to persuade her
to join different clubs, but none of them interested her. Finally a teacher confronted her and asked her
what she liked to do.
I like to dance. Leila replied.
The teacher mentioned Leila s old dance studio and she ran away crying. That night she missed her
dance studio more than ever.

Union s defeat at the Battle of Bull Run, Lincoln was forced to send 500,000 more troops into the war.
(History.com Staff. Abraham Lincoln. History.com, A E Television Networks.) In 1863 he gave the
Emancipation Proclamation which freed all slaves in the Confederacy. Later that year, he gave the
Gettysburg Address, one of the most well known speeches in American history, to encourage the
Union to keep fighting. The Union won the war on April 9, 1865 when Robert E. Lee surrendered.

Affluenza Synthesis
A new has entered the American vocabulary: affluenza. Affluenza is defined as the unsustainable
addiction to economic growth. Many scholars, writers, and comedians have made America s affluenza
mentality as a warning to the American people, as well as the bud of jokes. Based on human nature,
and strive for a more advanced life; Americans are truly people who need more growth. Affluenza is a
characteristic that humans have been exemplifying for centuries. Aristotle, an ancient Greek scholar,
states, He is happy who lives in accordance... and is sufficiently equipped with external goods (Source
A). People have always wanted more, which will make their lives happier. Human nature is never
satisfied, people will always strive for the next better thing. Americans do have a mentality related to
affluenza, not because they are greedy, but because human nature is ready for best entity. People are
always trying to have a more advanced life. John Stuart Mill, an eighteenth century British
philosopher, believed that people need better items to achieve happiness. A being of higher faculties
requires more to make him happy... (Source ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lewis Lapham, author of Money and Class in America: Notes and Observations on Our Civil
Religion, believes Americans are extremely interested in economics than any other group of people. I
think it is fair to say that the current ardor of the American faith in money easily surpasses the degrees
of intensity achieved by other societies in other times and places (Source F). But, Americans are over
obsessed with consumption. People from other nations and times were also interested in economic
growth. Andrew Carnegie, writer of Wealth, states that other societies were comparable to American
society. Little difference between us and (Indians) (Source G). Americans are not over consumed with
their economics, Americans and other people are

Allegories in of Mice and Men
In the novel, Of mice and Men , John Steinbeck uses allegory to represent different themes and
messages. An allegory is a story, poem or a picture which can be interpreted to reveal a hidden
meaning. While reading Steinbeck s book I noticed different metaphors such as the usage of animals
and Curley s wife. Throughout the whole book the reader can notice many animals mentioned such as
rabbits, mice, the puppy and the old dog. Curley s wife is also a sort of symbol. She represents the
way in which the women were treated and looked upon in those days. The animals and Curley s wife
all symbolize different things in life in the 1930 s USA. They all symbolize the hopes and the dreams
that the characters share which motivates and drives them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Saying that the rabbits should be furry, fluffy and colorful makes their life even more padded and
warm, which protects them from the tough world at that time. The animals are a great way to show
and symbolize different things. To find the allegorical meaning you only have to look in between the
lines to find a different meaning to the words and sayings. This can be seen in the case of Curley s
wife. By looking more closely at the story, one can see that Curley s wife is also a metaphor which
symbolizes the way which other people looked upon women in the society of the 1930 s. Curley s wife
represents a whole marginalized group in the American society at that time. In the novel, characters
are never fully developed, but instead appear as outlines or symbols of real people. Candy, Crooks,
and Curley s wife represent the discriminated groups of age, race, and sex. Curley s wife has been
given an overall picture in the eyes of George and Lennie before they even meet her, by Candy. The
picture Candy paints about her hints at how she tends to give all the men on the ranch the eye .
Nobody really knows Curley s wife because nobody ever talks to her and listens to what she really has
to say. Curley s wife wants attention. She wants people to notice her. She is the only woman on the
ranch out of all the men. She wears fancy clothes and nice make up to make her look beautiful and

Foundation Types Essay
Types of Foundation
The foundation is the base for the constructed building and as such is required to carry out several
functions as follows:
0 The foundation should safely sustain and transmit to the ground the combined dead and imposed
loads of the building without resulting in any settlement or other movement of the building or any
adjoining works.
1 Foundations should be deep enough or be constructed in such a way as to avoid damage by the
swelling, shrinkage or freezing of the subsoil.
2 The foundation should be capable of resisting attack by chemicals such as soluble salts or other
deleterious materials present in the subsoil.

Strip foundation ready to receive brickwork. This foundation is for a two bedroom starter home.
There are various methods of modifying the concept of strip foundations to allow its use in other
situations, for instance where some soil has a poor bearing capacity. This may be the case in wet
ground, soft clay or filled ground, where the width of the strip foundation can be extended to spread
the load over a larger area of soil. This will require the provision of reinforcement to the foundation in
order to withstand tension and spread the load over a wider area.
When a strip foundation is to be used on a sloping site the most economic solution is to use a stepped
foundation which will reduce the amount of excavation, construction under ground, backfill and
trench support. The provision of stepped foundations following the line of the ground requires each
step to be between 150 and 225millimetres in order to accommodate brick or block courses. The lap of
concrete at the step should be not less than the depth of the foundation concrete and never less than
300millimetres whichever is the greater.

How Does Hippocrates Affect The World Today
Hippocrates affecting the world today Hippocrates is a very significant figure in the history of
medicine that is still helping our society today. Hippocrates is known for the oath which physicians
still use today. His ideas have also greatly improved and advanced medicine to help other. Also, his
research of the four humours in the classics period helped other physicians further explore the cures
for sickness/diseases. Hippocrates lived 460 377 BCE, during the Golden Age, (Lawerence,
Hippocratic Galenic Medicine). Everyone knows who Hippocrates is, but I believe there is not one
single thing he is known for because he has done so much. The Hippocratic Oath is extremely
important because doctors today still use it every day in hospitals

Comparing King Lear And The Confessions By Saint Augustine
While King Lear and Edmund are unable to reach truth, in The Confessions by Saint Augustine,
Augustine is able to discover truth through divine intervention and his experiences. Augustine s
Confessions is essentially a narrative of Augustine s search for truth and his journey towards
discovering it. His delight in truth...[and] unwilling[ness] to be deceived (32) drives him to seek for
truth, and his multitudes and layers of questions reflect his thirst for truth. Augustine asks questions
such as How should the God who made heaven and earth come into me? (14) and How did [God]
make heaven and earth (226). Through questions, Augustine wrestles with issues including the nature
of God and man, the origin of sin in man, and the relationship ... Show more content on

In King Lear, characters mainly struggle with finding truth about themselves and other people and
separating truth from deception, while in The Confessions, Augustine struggles with theological and
moral truths. These truths, though different, are able to be found if we are willing to look for them.
From Augustine, we see that truth is given to us; it is right in front of us, and if we seek it like
Augustine did, we are able to discover it. While, we cannot always say that we have found truth, we
can say that we have gotten closer to truth. What we see as true will evolve, but that is just the process
of getting us closer to the real truth. In King Lear, readers have clear view of the truth, but some of the
characters are unable to see the truth because of their unwillingness to accept it. Saint Augustine, Lear,
and Edmund all show that truth requires acceptance from us. Saint Augustine had to learn to accept
the scriptures and overcome his lust, Lear had to overcome his pride in order to come to a better
understanding of himself and those around him, and Edmund was unable to respond appropriately to
reality because of the wealth and titles he wanted for himself. While truth can be found, sometimes we
are unable to see truth because we don t want to accept it. By rejecting the truth, we try to create our
own realities and believe what we want to believe rather than what truth is telling

Discuss the reasons why the research and development of anti retroviral drugs (ARVs) has impacted
differently on people suffering from HIV/AIDS in developed and developing world
HIV/AIDS still does not have a know cure, but has a treatment that slows down the affects of
HIV/AIDS which is called ARV (anti retroviral drug)
The ARV drug is a very exclusive drug because as it is very expensive, around $400 a month if not

afford to pay that amount of money so they are not able to receive the treatment.

In Africa the education is something that not everyone gets, so they are not aware about how they get
the disease, how they can prevent it or what are the affects. A reason for why in Africa they do not
receive the education is because there are a very few amount of teachers, and the teachers that they
have may also be contaminated and are not able to execute their job correctly. HIV/AIDS affects
everyone in their community because the disease spreads fast in their case (the people in Africa). This
is due to their sexual behavior.
Their culture does not have monogamy or a custom of only one sexual partner, but they have many
different sexual partners, and that is why HIV/AIDS spreads so quickly in Africa. They also do not use
protection because it is not available to most people and so chances are higher to get HIV/AIDS.
Another cultural aspect is that there is a lot of prejudice against testing. Many people do not want to
get tested for HIV/AIDS because one, they are scared the test might come back positive, second if it
does result positive how will they tell their family/friends and thirdly how will they get the treatment
they need to get. If the people get tested and do want to not tell anyone, because of various reasons,
and as a result the problem amplifies and does not get solved. Another problem for the cultural aspect
is get the people to take responsibility and try to change. Of coarse it is easier to ignore the problem
and pretend it is not there, but

the unbearable lightness of being Essay
The Unheard Voice of Commitment nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; What the reader understands of the
infidelity of Milan Kundera s characters in The Unbearable Lightness of Being is a mere distraction
from the real substance of the story and of the character s real purpose. Kundera offers the reader a red
herring and only through close examination can one dissect and abstract the true essence of each
character s thread that links them to one another in this story. For it is not clearly seen: in fact, it can
not be seen at all. It is the fierce absence of the word commitment that is so blatantly seen in each
individual, yet the word itself is buried so deeply inside of Tomas and Tereza that it takes an animal s

Her feeling was rather that, given the nature of the human couple, the love of man and woman is a
priori inferior to that which can exist (at least in the best instances) in the love between man and dog,
that oddity of human history probably unplanned by the creator (297). Tereza knew as the dog lay
dying that the reason why she snuggled so close to Karenin was her commitment. That same
commitment was the reason why she still slept next to Tomas every night. Love, whether we perceive
it or not, has a hold that stitches souls together in the patchwork of life. It was not until after the dog s
death that Tomas grasped this idea as well. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Karenin proved to be a
symbol of Tomas and Tereza s marriage and the prospect of death seemed to inevitably doom the
marriage. Tereza understood that Karenin s commitment to please was the reason why the dog held on.
Kundera s following passage reflects this, It was sad, what she said, yet without realizing it they were
happy. They were happy not in spite of their sadness but thanks to it. They were holding hands and
both had the same image in their eyes: a limping dog who represented ten years of their lives (293). In
the existence of a dog there was a light. This light did not fade when the dog s existence was ceased,
yet grew brighter in the eyes of a man. Tomas learned that in his years of endless escapades and
rendevous with strange woman, was his resistence to love and commitment to Tereza. He

When the accounting errors first emerged Fannie Mae estimated that there would be an adjustment of
about $9 billion in its reported earnings over the contested period. That number has since increased to
over $11 billion but may increase again as further irregularities discovered with insurance related
issues. No estimate of these additional potential revisions is currently available.

Tomkey Family By David Sedaris
In the first few paragraphs of David Sedaris memoir, the author is forced to realize that some people
live different realities than he does. Upon learning that his new neighbors, the Tomkey family, have
very different views on modern technology than most of first world society, he grows curious of them.
The way the neighborhood reacts to this situation has a lot to say about how society tolerates other
opinions and beliefs. Observation of their reactions shows how they feel more distant and
uncomfortable towards the Tomkey family. David s own curiosity could be explained by his new
lifestyle change, considering the narrator transitioned from a very secluded neighborhood to a much
more cramped city lifestyle. When Sedaris learns that his new neighbors were definitely much more
diverse than his family, he begins to question their beliefs. He then starts to spend a lot of time around
their house. During nighttime, he gets much closer. By watching the family through their window, he
learns how the family acts during different activities throughout the day. Eventually, Sedaris is able to

The Treatment Goal Of 75 Year Old Male With Hypothyroidism
Management. The treatment goal of 75 year old male with hypothyroidism is to improve patient s
symptoms which will allow better adaptation to environment. The medication dose should be adjusted
to maintain serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) within the lower half of the reference range
(0.4 2.5mU/L). Treatment of hypothyroidism in elderly subjects is a common task undertaken in
general and in sub specialty practice. Treatment of hypothyroidism in elderly subjects is often
rewarding, simple and cheap (Roe, 2015).
Thyroid hormones (L thyroxine). Hypothyroidism is classically treated by oral replacement with
synthetic L thyroxine (levothyroxine). Normalization of TSH levels using levothyroxine therapy can
ameliorate the effects of comorbidities in older adults (Hennessey, 2015). It has been shown then there
is no added benefit in using combination therapy of levothyroxine and liothyronine (another synthetic
thyroid hormone supplement) (Kraut, 2015). L thyroxine (levothyroxine) monotherapy has become
the mainstay of treating hypothyroidism and allows more desirable therapy (Jonklaas, 2014). Patients
whose serum TSH levels exceed 10 mIU/L are at increased risk for heart failure and cardiovascular
mortality, and should be considered for treatment with L thyroxine (Garber, 2012). L thyroxine is
peripherally converted to free triiodothyronine (FT3), the active form of thyroid hormone. It has a half

On July 12, 2007, for the first time in American history the Senate session that day was opened by a

the ideals designed by the framers of the Constitution were alive and well; the pluralization of the
United States of America, the land of freedom of religion, and the right to worship without
persecution. However, the Christian right wing religious group Operation Save America entered the

the identity of Muslims and American religious pluralism (Byng, M. pg. 3). The land of pluralism has
become a land of persecution for Muslim Americans. I cannot help but wonder how the Constitutional

If you aren t willing to face your demons if you can t find the courage to take on your fear and hurt
and anger you might as well wrap them up with a bow and give them to your children. Because they

of 83 Dickey tells his traumatic rape stories. Dickey demonstrated a great deal of fear and innocence.
At the tender age of ten, R.A. was exposed to very explicit behaviour numerous amounts of time.

career at jeopardy. Once Dickey turned to his Christian faith, he began to find his self awareness that
he was searching for and started to excel in his performance. Although he did well, he wanted to be
the best, so he paid attention to the game as a whole and realized that one is only good as their last
inning . With this thought in the back of his head he came to the conclusion that he needs to learn from
the mistakes he made in previous games rather than dwelling on them. Also, he realized that the fans
play a crucial part in the game, they know how to get in the players head and make them feel for their
mistakes, so having a rock hard confidence is key, not only for the fans, but for big games like the

  • 2. Democracy In American Democracy American Democracy Democracies have been around for hundreds of years, dating back before the word democracy was created by the ancient Greeks. Democracies give the citizens of the nation power and let them have a say in politics. Also, the people have many freedoms guaranteed to them, unlike other types of government. The people elect local, state, and national government officials. The local government deals with many different issues. State government shares most of its power with the national government. Lastly, the national government oversees all the smaller forms of government in the land. [Thesis] American Democracy fits the definition of democracy because the people are represented fairly through local, state, and national government. To begin, local government acts on behalf on specific areas known as counties, towns, or districts (local government). The people vote on councilmen to represent our county, town, or city. For example, the councilmen vote on and determine how much money our school can spend. They can also enact on our county taxes. Local government cannot pass or enforce laws that might put judgment on a much bigger area other than its own(local government). For example, if the city tax for Opp is nine cents, they cannot impose that same tax on a nearby city like Kinston. The citizens have a choice in who they vote for to make sure we are represented fairly. As a person who makes up a part of the county, district, or town, the people all ... • 3. Temple Expiatori De Familia Research Paper When one thinks of a cathedral, he or she may not bring La Sagrada de Familia as their first choice. The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia (Expiatory Temple of the Holy Family) of Barcelona is far more unique than most other temples or cathedrals all around the world. It has been commissioned by successor Antonio Gaudi, the conservative society, and anyone who happened to be generous enough to fall for Gaudi s begging. Antoni Gaudi was the mastermind behind this beautiful, Gothic style church, that is the most talked about building in Spain, and attracts roughly 2.8 million visitors per year. It has even been visited by Pope Benedict XVI, who named Sagrada Familia a basilica in November of 2010. From miles away, in any direction, one can see the tops of the eighteen towers of the temple. As one approaches the monument, he or she will notice biblical scenes carved entirely throughout the whole building. As one walks through the doors, he or she will be overwhelmed by the feeling of walking through a wooded forest. Despite all the amazing work this temple has endured, it is still under construction after nearly 150 years and is estimated to be finished entirely in 2030. Even though the ... • 4. The Shift Of Modern Technology Adam Bobka English 12 Scott Durocher January 6, 2015 The Shift of Modern Technology Technology has always been changing and evolving. Whether it is discovering ways to cultivate plants and animals or if it is developing the smallest nano technology to be used in space, there is never a time where scientists and inventors are not coming up with new things to better our quality of life and to change how we work in society. The last decade has been especially important to the development of technology in many different aspects such as healthcare, or globalization. The contemporary shift of technology within the last decade has been a revolutionary stepping stone into the possibilities of the future. The changes in healthcare have been excitingly revolutionary and act as a very large gate into the possibilities of the future for health services. The way that hospitals store their data has changed monumentally. This change allows for faster accessibility to health information of a patient and even allows for a patient to access their own health records if they want to. This change in speed is very different from the old paper records of the past, and the more things that health services moves on to a technological database, the safer the information is and the faster it can be obtained. Another thing that all this information being quickly available is that healthcare is receivable almost anywhere in this day and age. With all this freedom, some people in the healthcare ... • 5. Twelve Angry Men Plot Essay Plot: Twelve Angry Men is an interesting and exciting jury room confrontation in which an quot;open and shut case quot; becomes strenuous as twelve strangers scuffle for answers. The trial involves a nineteen year old boy, who is suspect of killing his father in a late night altercation with an extraordinary knife. His fate now lies in the hands of 12 jurors, each with his own determination to solve the case and reveal the truth. As the session takes its course, evidence becomes scrutinised, tempers rise, and the jury room erupts in a shouting brawl because one such juror finds reasonable doubts in the two testimonies that were deemed credible enough to convict. In his fight for an acquittal, the singled out juror found that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During his re examination, he provided for the basis of his decision on which he found reasonable doubt in the testimonies. As a result, he proved the timing to be underestimated by several seconds. Nonetheless, he maintained a subtle poise and composure during the cession, and with such confidence, he asked for a revote. The outcome was successfully manipulated, with the votes now standing at 11 not guilty and 1 guilty. Methods of Persuasion: The methods of persuasion used in the jury session consisted of Davis s ability to open the others eyes to the inconsistencies of the re examination of the testimonies. It was a real fight to the end, because Davis could have easily given up. He begins by saying that he quot;only wants to talk. quot; He sheds some light on the other jurors when he undermines the testimony of a woman who claimed to have seen the boy. Davis asserts that she could not have seen him at all because time was too short. With the time given, she had to wake up, and put her glasses. They all soon found out that there was not enough time to do so. A neighbor also claimed to have been under the house of the father who and said he heard the murder. • 6. Language Acquisition Of Language Development Essay Language is perceived as the way humans communicate through the use of spoken words, it involves particular system and styles in which we interact with one another (Oxford 2009). Children s acquisition of language has long been considered one of the uniquely defining characteristics of human behaviour. Even today, it is widely thought that children acquire their native language from the imitation of their parents, caregivers or the people in their daily environment. In this essay I will go through what the typical stages of language acquisition in children are, I will explain and show examples of cognitive disabilities and other difficulties in acquiring language, show the theories that explore how language is acquired and see if these theories account for children who are not cognitively impaired but who still do not acquire language. In nearly all cases, children s language development follows a predictable sequence. For example, at 6 8 months babbling occurs, 9 18 months a child is at a one word stage or holophrastic stage, 18 24 months a two word stage and by 24 30 months they are at a telegraphic stage where they can form sentence. This is the case with most children however some children experience some difficulties in acquiring language. If a child has not spoken by the time they are 2years of age, it is advised that they be brought to a doctor to be assessed. The most common reason for late or deteriorating speech is a hearing problem. If this is not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Character Development In The Scarlet Letter By Nathanial... The Scarlet Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne often uses character development to foreshadow the inevitable outcome of the novel. Hawthorne wrote, And now, through the chamber which these spectral thoughts had made so ghastly, glided Hester Prynne leading along little Pearl, in her scarlet garb, and pointing her forefinger, first at the scarlet letter on her bosom, and then at the clergyman s own chest. This quote foreshadows the ending of the novel, including Dimmesdale s confession and demise. Hester Prynne and Dimmesdale both show a strong development of character throughout the novel which all contribute to the final outcome. In this society and period of time, Hester is considered to have deviated from the norm. Many valued and followed Puritan beliefs and it appeared as if Hester had strayed from the path. When the novel began, she was separated from the rest of the Puritan world, and behind the wooden door. The door symbolized sin; those on the inside have violated the traditional beliefs of a faithful Puritan. Hester was punished for committing adultery, and therefore was isolated from the rest of society. She is ashamed of her actions, and because of them, she is required to wear a scarlet letter upon her breast. After attempts of covering the letter, she is informed that it is part of her punishment and must be worn at all times. Hester is embarrassed and feels weak due to the presence of the letter, however, this feeling soon changes as she realizes who she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is the same for a worker, once they are not up to date on everything they need to know they became more of a liability for the company. This is because they are not as efficient as another work who would be up to date and could replace them. This is the same for manufactures of products, the product they are selling must be the best or top of the line so that it is appealing to the consumers. Another big part of issues manufactures have is that they need to have more than one version of the product. When marketing to a large number of consumers the product has to be the most appeal one on the shelf and in their price range. Bauer has to maintain a product line that will be affordable to a player who is trying a sports for his first time all the way up to the professional players. There are various methods of modifying the concept of strip foundations to allow its use in other situations, for instance where some soil has a poor bearing capacity. This may be the case in wet ground, soft clay or filled ground, where the width of the strip foundation can be extended to spread the load over a larger area of soil. This will require the provision of reinforcement to the foundation in order to withstand tension and spread the load over a wider area. When a strip foundation is to be used on a sloping site the most economic solution is to use a stepped foundation which will reduce the amount of excavation, construction under ground, backfill and trench support. The number of fraud cases investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission jumped 41 percent in the last three years (112 cases in 2001 compare to 79 cases investigated in 1998), resulting in tens of millions of dollars in fines to settle the charges. The company holds over $1 trillion in assets, and purchases more mortgage loans than any other lender in the U.S. When the accounting errors first emerged Fannie Mae estimated that there would be an adjustment of about $9 billion in its reported earnings over the contested period. That number has since increased to over $11 billion but may increase again as further irregularities discovered with insurance related issues. No estimate of these additional potential revisions is currently available. On December 21, 2004, Franklin D. Raines stepped down as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and J. Under his employment agreement and the terms of the Executive Pension Plan, Raines is entitled to receive 60 percent of his High Three Total Compensation , which is his highest total compensation for three consecutive years during the last 10 years. Upon early retirement, this number is slightly reduced leaving him with estimated annual benefits of $1,085,462. • 33. Tomkey Family By David Sedaris In the first few paragraphs of David Sedaris memoir, the author is forced to realize that some people live different realities than he does. Upon learning that his new neighbors, the Tomkey family, have very different views on modern technology than most of first world society, he grows curious of them. The way the neighborhood reacts to this situation has a lot to say about how society tolerates other opinions and beliefs. Observation of their reactions shows how they feel more distant and uncomfortable towards the Tomkey family. David s own curiosity could be explained by his new lifestyle change, considering the narrator transitioned from a very secluded neighborhood to a much more cramped city lifestyle. When Sedaris learns that his new neighbors were definitely much more diverse than his family, he begins to question their beliefs. He then starts to spend a lot of time around their house. During nighttime, he gets much closer. By watching the family through their window, he learns how the family acts during different activities throughout the day. Eventually, Sedaris is able to observe the Tomkey children during school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 35. The Treatment Goal Of 75 Year Old Male With Hypothyroidism Management. The treatment goal of 75 year old male with hypothyroidism is to improve patient s symptoms which will allow better adaptation to environment. The medication dose should be adjusted to maintain serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) within the lower half of the reference range (0.4 2.5mU/L). Treatment of hypothyroidism in elderly subjects is a common task undertaken in general and in sub specialty practice. Treatment of hypothyroidism in elderly subjects is often rewarding, simple and cheap (Roe, 2015). Thyroid hormones (L thyroxine). Hypothyroidism is classically treated by oral replacement with synthetic L thyroxine (levothyroxine). Normalization of TSH levels using levothyroxine therapy can ameliorate the effects of comorbidities in older adults (Hennessey, 2015). It has been shown then there is no added benefit in using combination therapy of levothyroxine and liothyronine (another synthetic thyroid hormone supplement) (Kraut, 2015). L thyroxine (levothyroxine) monotherapy has become the mainstay of treating hypothyroidism and allows more desirable therapy (Jonklaas, 2014). Patients whose serum TSH levels exceed 10 mIU/L are at increased risk for heart failure and cardiovascular mortality, and should be considered for treatment with L thyroxine (Garber, 2012). L thyroxine is peripherally converted to free triiodothyronine (FT3), the active form of thyroid hormone. • 37. Religious Pluralism Essay On July 12, 2007, for the first time in American history the Senate session that day was opened by a prayer; unlike any other prayer, it was given by a Hindu priest. At first sight, it would seem as though the ideals designed by the framers of the Constitution were alive and well; the pluralization of the United States of America, the land of freedom of religion, and the right to worship without persecution. However, the Christian right wing religious group Operation Save America entered the Senate floor and began to heckle Rajan Zed, the Hindu priest, perpetuating that Hinduism is an abomination , as Hindus do not worship The lord Jesus Christ . This leads us to ask the question: Is America a land of religious pluralism, or is it a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With 77% of all evangelical leaders holding an unfavorable view of Islam, still 93% of evangelicals agree that it is important to Welcome Muslims into the American community (Cimino, R, pg. 2). This survey reveals that the problem with the Islam faith is not racial: The Muslim people are welcomed, the Islam faith is not. The violence that has been perpetrated against America, whether executed or planned, has brought to fruition religious persecution not seen since the persecution of the Jews in W.W.II. This trust no Arab attitude has brought shame to the Constitutional intentions of freedom of religion intended by our forefathers, and has set religious tolerance back 200 years. Looking at media representation of Muslim Americans prior to 9 11, it shows religious diversity in America, depicting Muslim America as just another religious community seeking to advance and protect their interests, not unlike other Americans. After 9 11 the media portrayed representations of threat and fear, creating boundaries between Muslims and other Americans. Such depiction transforms the identity of Muslims and American religious pluralism (Byng, M. pg. 3). The land of pluralism has become a land of persecution for Muslim Americans. Because they will be carrying the same thing...unless you are willing to do the work (Page 46). In chapter 2 summer of 83 Dickey tells his traumatic rape stories. Dickey demonstrated a great deal of fear and innocence. At the tender age of ten, R.A. was exposed to very explicit behaviour numerous amounts of time. Dickey, being a child at the time, was not able to express himself out of fear. When Dickey was in search of self awareness, he had little to no confidence in his pitches. He relied heavily on his knuckle ball, but he could not throw it with demand; resulting in him letting up a lot of runs and putting his career at jeopardy. Once Dickey turned to his Christian faith, he began to find his self awareness that he was searching for and started to excel in his performance. Although he did well, he wanted to be the best, so he paid attention to the game as a whole and realized that one is only good as their last inning . With this thought in the back of his head he came to the conclusion that he needs to learn from the mistakes he made in previous games rather than dwelling on them. Also, he realized that the fans play a crucial part in the game, they know how to get in the players head and make them feel for their mistakes, so having a rock hard confidence is key, not only for the fans, but for big games like the playoffs as well. Dickey s new found confidence is what put him on the map, winning him several accolades and a big contract.
