During a Post Installation Mooring Inspection at Mississippi Canyon block 736, curious growths were noted on the chain which are evidence of Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC). These growths were also observed on subsea shipwrecks such as the Titanic and in some conditions corrode steel at a surprising rate. Though observation of these tubercles does not accelerate their growth rate, designers should consider corrosion rates in their design even at depths of 6000 feet below sea level. Corrosion can and does occur in an anoxic environment and designers should not relax their corrosion allowances for chains at depth.

It is a multiple-step sequence of photo lithographic and chemical processing steps during which electronic circuits are gradually created on a wafer made of pure semiconducting material. Silicon is almost always used, but various compound semiconductors are used for specialized applications.

The aim of the present work is to minimize the wear rate by nano-coating Boron Carbide (B4C) on the high speed steel (HSS) substrate. For this purpose the B4C is being coated on the substrate using sputter deposition method and the wear rate is being analysed by performing pin-on-disc experiment on the coated and uncoated substrate to compare the wear rate on both substrate. For application purpose the same coating is made on the HSS drill bit and surface morphology of the tools were studied by using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) after performing same number of drilling operation by using both coated and uncoated drill bit to determine the effect of coating.
Advantages of Eddy Current Array over Magnetic Particle and Penetrant Testing...Olympus IMS
The use of eddy current array (ECA) technology has already been shown to increase the speed of inspections and the reliability of the surface inspection process. However, inspecting the surface of the carbon steel welds used in pipelines and pressure vessels represents many challenges for this technology. The geometric shape of the weld crown, the paint thickness, the presence of crest and crowns, and the ferromagnetism of the carbon steel are constraints. New tools have recently been developed to help overcome these challenges. A new orthogonal-type ECA probe based on flexible printed circuit board (PCB) technology conforms to the shape of the weld to help ensure flaw detection. Dynamic lift-off compensation and depth sizing tools were then added to a modern flaw detector, resulting in a leading-edge solution that can potentially replace magnetic particle testing for carbon steel weld inspection. With these inspection tools, users can fully benefit from the portability, imaging, data archiving, and reporting capabilities of eddy current array instruments. In this presentation, we review this new carbon weld inspection solution and present results that demonstrate the solution’s effectiveness for inspecting carbon steel welds. This information is technically advanced and is addressed to NDT operators and engineers.

Effect of Surface Hardening Technique and Case Depth on Rolling Contact Fatig...Dave Palmer, P.E.
Surface hardening techniques are widely used to improve the rolling contact fatigue resistance of materials. This study investigated the rolling contact fatigue (RCF) resistance of hardened, ground steel rods made from three different aircraft-quality alloy steels (AISI 8620, 9310 and 4140), and hardened using different techniques (atmosphere carburizing, vacuum carburizing, and induction hardening) at different case depths. The fatigue life of the rods was determined using a three ball-on-rod rolling contact fatigue test machine. After testing, the surfaces of the rods were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and their microstructures were examined using metallographic techniques. In addition, the surface topography of the rods was measured using white-light interferometry. Relationships between surface hardness, case depth, and fatigue life were investigated. The longest lives were observed for the vacuum carburized AISI 9310 specimens, while the shortest lives were observed for the induction hardened AISI 4140 specimens. It was found the depth to a hardness of 613 HV (56 HRC), as opposed to the traditional definition of case depth as the depth to a hardness of 513 HV (50 HRC), provided a somewhat better correlation to RCF life, and the hardness at a depth of 0.254 mm provided a somewhat better correlation than the surface hardness to RCF life.

As the oil and gas market moves towards new corrosion-resistant materials and alloys, specifying products has become increasingly complex.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
