During a Post Installation Mooring Inspection at Mississippi Canyon block 736, curious growths were noted on the chain which are evidence of Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC). These growths were also observed on subsea shipwrecks such as the Titanic and in some conditions corrode steel at a surprising rate. Though observation of these tubercles does not accelerate their growth rate, designers should consider corrosion rates in their design even at depths of 6000 feet below sea level. Corrosion can and does occur in an anoxic environment and designers should not relax their corrosion allowances for chains at depth.

In order to prepare a high quality glass with high water resistance, we investigated chromium iron phosphate glass because of its improved chemical durability. The introduction of chromium in sodiumiron-phosphate glasses is used to compare its effect with iron in inhibition of corrosion. The sodiumchromium-iron phosphate glass of composition 30Fe2O3-xCr2O3-(15-x)Na2O-55P2O5 (mol %),with (0≤x≤4) was produced by melting batches of (99,98% pure) Cr2O3, Fe2O3, Na2CO3, and (NH4)2HPO4 at 1080°C for one hour and pouring the liquid into the bench. The sample was annealed at 650°C for 48h. We have performed the measurement of X-Ray diffraction, and Infra Red spectroscopy. The chemical durability was evaluated by weight losses of glass samples after immersion in hot distilled water (90°C) for 30 days. Weight loss measurements showed a good chemical durability unlike borosilicate glass.

Ion implantation is the most versatile and superior surface modification method. It has several
advantages compared with other modification methods. In this study, the nitrogen was implanted by a process of
ion implantation at 60 keV with different fluences of 1 x 1016, 5 x 1016, 1x1017 and 5 x 1017 ions/cm2
. Corrosion
resistance of Ti6Al4V and ion implanted Ti6Al4V were investigated by an electrochemical test, at 370C in
normal saline solution. ICP-AES studies were carried out to determine amount of ions leached out from samples
when kept immersed in normal saline solution. The implanted samples showed variation in the corrosion
resistance and microhardness with varying fluences. The sample implanted at 1 X 1017 ions/cm2
showed an
optimum corrosion resistance.
Corrosion Behaviour of Titanium Anodized Film in Different Corrosive Environm...IJERA Editor
Anodizing is an electrochemical process in which thickness of the natural oxide layer is increased and converted it into a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant film. Titanium is used as a biocompatible material in human implants due to its excellent corrosion and wears resistance. Stable, continuous, highly adherent, and protective oxide films can be developed on titanium using various acid or alkaline baths. Anodizing of titanium generates a spectrum of different color without use of dyes. This spectrum of color dependent on the thickness of the oxide, voltage ranges, interference of light reflecting off the oxide surface and reflecting off the underlying metal surface. The anodized film of Titanium is mainly consists of TiO2 or mixtures of TiO2 & Ti2O3 etc. In the present work, Pure Titanium plate has been anodized using bath of Chromic Acid at different voltage range. The anodized film is characterized by visual observation, SEM & EDAX analysis & A.C Impedance Spectroscopy, while the corrosion studies were performed using Potentiodynamic studies were performed in 3.5% NaCl & 0.1N H2SO4. The Results show that the anodized film of Titanium show different spectrum of colors from Brown-Violet-Tea or Peacock. SEM & EDAX analyses show that the anodized film of Titanium is mainly made up of TiO2 and Ti2O3. Potentiodynamic study implies that the film developed on Titanium using the bath of Chromic Acid exhibits good corrosion resistance. The A.C. Impedance study shows that the film is more compact, adherent and more uniform in chromic acid bath.
Corrosion Behaviour of 6061 Al-SiC Composites in KOH MediumEditor IJCATR
The present research work deals with the corrosion behaviour of 6061 Al-15% (vol) SiC(P) composites. The addition of the
reinforcement like SiC to Aluminium has been reported to decrease the corrosion resistance of the matrix due to several reasons, one
of them being galvanic action between the reinforcement and the matrix. In the present work, the corrosion behaviour of 6061 Al-15%
(vol) SiC(P) composites in KOH at different concentration (0.5M, 1M, 1.5M) and different temperature (300C, 350C, 400C, 450C, 500C)
was determined by Tafel extrapolation technique. The inhibition action of 8-Hydroxyquinoline on corrosion behaviour of 6061 Al-
15% (vol) SiC(P) composites in KOH at different concentration of inhibitor (200ppm, 400ppm); different concentration of medium
(0.5M, 1M,1.5M) and different temperature (300C, 350C, 400C, 450C, 500C) was investigated. The results indicate that corrosion rate
of Al-SiC composite in KOH increases as the concentration of medium increases and also as temperature of medium increases. The
results indicate that the inhibitor is moderately effective in inhibiting the corrosion of 6061 Al-15% (vol) SiC(P) composites. As the
inhibitor concentration increases, the corrosion rate decreases. The surface morphology of the metal surface was investigated using
scanning electron microscope (SEM). Activation energy was evaluated using Arrhenius equation, and enthalpy of activation and
entropy of activation values were calculated using transition state equation

Developing highly active and durable electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) have been needed for efficient hydrogen production by alkaline water electrolysis (AWE). Austenitic stainless steels (SS) have attracted attentions as the alternative anode materials to Ni-based electrodes (1, 2). We recently demonstrated that NiFe hydroxide/oxide hetero nanostructures that synthesized through the constant current density electrolysis of 316SS (NiFe-HyOx/SS) show high OER activity and stability under constant current operation conditions (3). However, the electrochemical stability and OER overpotentials of the surface catalyst layers generated on the stainless steel under potential fluctuation is still not clear. In this study, we investigated changes in OER overpotentials of the NiFe-HyOx/SS anode during applying potential cycles (PCs) of 0.5 and 1.8 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) and discussed the structural changes.

Influence of Polyacrylamide on Corrosion Resistance of Mild Steel Simulated C...IOSR Journals
Corrosion resistance of mild steel in simulated concrete pore solution (SCPS) Prepared in well water in
the absence and presence of polacrylamide (PAA) and Zn2+has been evaluated by weight loss method. It is observed
that when PAA is added the corrosion inhibition efficiency (IE) increases. As the concentration of PAA increases ,
inhibition efficiency also increases . Addition of Zn2+ improves of IE further. 50 ppm of PAA has 60% IE . 100 ppm
of PAA shows 75% IE. When 50 ppm of Zn2+is added to the above system , both system shows 80% and 90% IE. The
mechanistic aspects of corrosion inhibition have been investigated by polarization study and AC impedance
spectra. . Polaraization study suggests that the PAA-Zn2+ system functions as a mixed inhibitor system .AC
impedance reveal the presence of a protective film on the metal surface.

Inhibition of Sulphuric Acid Corrosion of Mild Steel by Surfactant and Its Ad...IOSR Journals
Abstract: The corrosion inhibition effect of surfactant, N,N-Dimethyl-N-(2-Phenoxyethyl)dodecan-1- aminiumbromide(DPDAB) on mild steel corrosion in 0.5M Sulphuric acid was investigated by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization and Electrochemical impedance spectroscopic techniques. DPDAB is an excellent inhibitor and its inhibition efficiency increases with increase in concentration and maximum inhibition efficiency was observed above the critical micelle concentration (CMC). The polarization curves reveal that DPDAB acts as mixed type inhibitor with predominantly of anodic type. The corrosion inhibition efficiency of DPDAB increases with increase in concentration and decreases with increase in temperature from 298K to 308K and then increases and shows maxima at 318K and then decreases at 328K.. The adsorption of the inhibitor on the mild steel in 0.5M H2SO4 was found to obey Langmuir’s adsorption isotherm. Scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) confirmed the existence of an adsorbed protective film on the metal surface. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters were calculated and discussed.
Increase of salt fog corrosion resistance of plasma nitridedJesusPZ
AISI 4340 is a commonly used alloy which is characterized by its remarkable strength, ductility and toughness obtained as a consequence of its good tempering properties [1].Because of its structural acceptable performance, AISI 4340 is widely used for fabrication of parts and components in automotive, aerospace as well as metal mechanics industries.
Cars are a very important part of this modern world because they give luxury and comfort. Even
though they are comfortable, some problems always keep arising on the safety side. After a lot of research they
rectified certain problems using air bags, auto parking, turbo charger, pedal shift…, etc.
And now we are going to discuss about one such problem that arises on the safety side. An unsuspected
accident occurs when people smash their fingers in between the car doors. Due to this kind of accident around
120,000 people are injured every year. But this was not taken as a very major safety concern for the customer.
To avoid this kind accident due to car doors, we are introducing “SAFETY DOOR LOCK SYSTEM”
with the help of “HYDRAULIC PISTON AND IR SENSORS”.
The major working process of the “SAFETY DOOR LOCK SYSTEM”is, when a person places his/her
hand or fingers in the gap between the door and the outer panel, at the time when the closing action of the door
takes place, the Sensors start to transmit the Infra Red Rays to the Receivers at the
other end, and so even if someone closes the door without anybody‟s knowledge the hydraulic piston will
automatically come out and stop the door from closing and prevent the person from the unsuspected accident
and minor injuries by the car door and ensure maximum safety to the customer.
Extrusion can be defined as the process of subjecting a material to compression so that it is forced to
flow through an opening of a die and takes the shape of the hole. Multi-hole extrusion is the process of
extruding the products through a die having more than one hole. Multi-hole extrusion increases the production
rate and reduces the cost of production. In this study the ram force has calculated experimentally for single hole
and multi-hole extrusion. The comparison of ram forces between the single hole and multi-hole extrusion
provides the inverse relation between the numbers of holes in a die and ram force. The experimental lengths of
the extruded products through the various holes of multi-hole die are different. It indicates that the flow pattern
is dependent on the material behavior. The micro-hardness test has done for the extruded products of lead
through multi-hole die. It is observed that the hardness of the extruded lead products from the central hole is
found to be more than that of the products extruded from other holes. The study suggests that multi-hole
extrusion can be used for obtaining the extruded products of lead with varying hardness. The micro-structure
study has done for the lead material before and after extrusion. It is observed that the size of grains of lead
material after extrusion is smaller than the original lead.

were carried out with real life and several generated data sets. The developed model (Multi-agent based System)
provides an optimized and flexible agile process scheduling and reduces overheads in the software process as it
responds quickly to changing requirements without excessive work in project scheduling.

influences of cutting parameters have been presented in graphical form for understanding. To achieve the
minimum surface roughness, the optimum values obtained for rpm, feed rate, depth of cut and nose radius were
respectively, 318 rpm, 0,1 mm/rev, 0,7 mm and 0,8 mm. Maximum surface roughness has been revealed the
values obtained for rpm, feed rate, depth of cut and nose radius were respectively, 318 rpm, 0,25 mm/rev, 0,9
mm and 0,4 mm.
Possible limits of accuracy in measurement of fundamental physical constantsirjes
The measurement uncertainties of Fundamental Physical Constants should take into account all
possible and most influencing factors. One from them is the finiteness of the model that causes the existence of
a-priori error. The proposed formula for calculation of this error provides a comparison of its value with the
actual experimental measurement error that cannot be done an arbitrarily small. According to the suggested
approach, the error of the researched Fundamental Physical Constant, measured in conventional field studies,
will always be higher than the error caused by the finite number of dimensional recorded variables of physicalmathematical
models. Examples of practical application of the considered concept for measurement of fine
structure constant, speed of light and Newtonian constant of gravitation are discussed.

With the rapid deployment of new wireless devices and applications, the last decade has witnessed a growing
demand for wireless radio spectrum. However, the policy of fixed spectrum assignment produces a bottleneck for more
efficient spectrum utilization, such that a great portion of the licensed spectrum is severely under-utilized. So the concept of
cognitive radio was introduced to address this issue.The inefficient usage of the limited spectrum necessitates the
development of dynamic spectrum access techniques, where users who have no spectrum licenses, also known as secondary
users, are allowed to use the temporarily unused licensed spectrum. For this purpose we have to know the presence or
absence of primary users for spectrum usage. So spectrums sensing is one of the major requirements of cognitive radio.Many
spectrum sensing techniques have been developed to sense the presence or absence of a licensed user. This paper evaluates
the performance of the energy detection based spectrum sensing technique in noisy and fading environments.The
performance of the energy detection technique will be evaluated by use of Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curves
over additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and fading channels.

In this paper, the conventional steel frames having triangular Pratt truss as a roofing system of 60 m
length, span 30m and varying bay spacing 4m, 5m and 6m respectively having eaves level for all the portals is at
10m and the EOT crane is supported at the height of 8m from ground level and pre-engineered steel frames of
same dimensions are analyzed and designed for wind zones (wind zone 2, wind zone 3, wind zone 4 and wind
zone 5) by using STAAD Pro V8i. The study deals with the comparative study of both conventional and preengineered
with respect to the amount of structural steel required, reduction in dead load of the structure.
Flip bifurcation and chaos control in discrete-time Prey-predator model irjes
The dynamics of discrete-time prey-predator model are investigated. The result indicates that the
model undergo a flip bifurcation which found by using center manifold theorem and bifurcation theory.
Numerical simulation not only illustrate our results, but also exhibit the complex dynamic behavior, such as the
periodic doubling in period-2, -4 -8, quasi- periodic orbits and chaotic set. Finally, the feedback control method
is used to stabilize chaotic orbits at an unstable interior point.

A Smart City could be depicted as a place, logical and physical, in which a crowd of heterogeneous
entities is related in time and space through different types of interactions. Any type of entity, whether it is a

consumers, each related to more contexts, we evaluate the triggering and spreading of a collective attitude. To
this aim, in this paper, we propose a novel analytical model defining a new concept of critical mass, which
includes centrality measures both in a single layer and in a multilayer social network.

Firefly algorithm is one of the emerging evolutionary approaches for complex and non-linear
optimization problems. It is inspired by natural firefly‟s behavior such as movement of fireflies based on
brightness and by overcoming the constraints such as light absorption, obstacles, distance, etc. In this research,
firefly‟s movement had been simulated computationally to identify the best parameters for spur gear pair by
considering the design and manufacturing constraints. The proposed algorithm was tested with the traditional
design parameters and found the results are at par in less computational time by satisfying the constraints.

One of the main reasons for the aerodynamic drag in automotive vehicles is the flow separation
near the vehicle’s rear end. To delay this flow separation, vortex generators are used in recent vehicles. The
vortex generators are commonly used in aircrafts to prevent flow separation. Even though vortex generators
themselves create drag, but they also reduce drag by delaying flow separation at downstream. The overall effect
of vortex generators is more beneficial and proved by experimentation. The effect depends on the shape,size and
orientation of vortex generators. Hence optimized shape with proper orientation is essential for getting better
results.This paper presents the effect of vortex generators at different orientation to the flow field and the
mechanism by which these effects takes place.

The availability of financial resources is an important element in impacting the success of a planning
process for an effective physical planning. The extent to which however, they are articulated in the process
remained elusive both in scholarly and public discourse. The objective of this study wastherefore, to examine
the extent to which financial resources affect physical planning. In doing so, the study examinedwhether
financial resources were adequate or not to facilitate planning processes in Paidha. According to the study
findings,budget prioritization and ceilings are still a challenge in Paidha Town Council. This is partly due
limited level of knowledge of physical planning among the officials of Paidha Town Council. As a result, there
were no dedicated budget line for routine inspection of physical development plan compliance and enforcement
tools in Paidha. In conclusion, in addressing uncoordinated patterns of physical development that characterize
Uganda‟s urban centres, a critical starting point ought to be the analysis of physical planning process. The
research of this kind is not only significant to other emerging urban centres facing poor a road network,
mushrooming informal settlements and poor social services including poor pattern of residential and commercial
developments but also to all institutions that are involved in planning these towns. Knowing the extent of need
for financial influences in planning may assist local authorities to take the processes of planning seriously which
will help enhance the sustainable development of emerging urban centres including Paidha.
The Choice of Antenatal Care and Delivery Place in Surabaya (Based on Prefere...irjes
- Person's desire to do a pregnancy examination is determined by the service place that suits the tastes
and facilities owned by it. Until now, the utilization of antenatal care by pregnant women is still low (Mardiana,
2014). The purpose of the study is to analyze factors affecting the utilization of antenatal care and delivery place
in Surabaya city based on the preferences and choice theory.
Type of survey research is cross sectional approach, the population is mothers who have children aged 1-
12 months in Surabaya. The large sample of 250 mothers who have children aged 1-12 months in 2013 is taken
by simple random sampling technique. Variables of the research are the preference elements and steps, choice
elements and steps, utilization of antenatal care and delivery place. Data were collected through questionnaires
and secondary data were then analyzed with descriptive statistics in the form of a frequency distribution, shown
by the schematic diagram.
The result showed that the preference elements and steps showed almost half (42.9%) desire to give birth
in a health care because of information got from someone else, while the choice element and step shows the
bulk (57.1%) of the criteria of delivery place chosen is a safe, comfortable and cheap delivery place, the labor
place which is the main choice most (57.1%) is cheap, comfortable, close.
Conclusion of the research based on the preferences and choice theory can be found three (3) new
theories, they are preferences become choice, preferences do not become choice, choice is preceded by
preferences

ABSTRACT: Titanium and Ti6Al4V alloy are widely used as biomaterial for implants. However, leaching out
of V and Al in a physiological environment constitute the main limitation for their applications. Zirconium
nitride (ZrN) coating started to attract more attention for its excellent corrosion resistance and biocompatibility
which exhibits suitable properties for great varieties of industrial applications. Here, electrochemical corrosion
behaviour in normal saline solution of ZrN coated Ti6Al4V alloy, coated by cathodic arc physical vapour
deposition with parameters; substrate bias voltages of -50V, -200V, -350V and -500V; nitrogen gas pressure 10
mtorr; duration of coating 20 minutes is studied. ICPAES was used to determine amount of Al leached out when
immersed in normal saline solution. The crystallographic orientation and surface morphology was studied using
X-ray diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM/EDAX). Microhardness was carried out using
Vickers method by applying 10g load. ZrN coating improves corrosion resistance, microhardness and elemental
out-diffusion resistance.

I. INTRODUCTION
Ti6Al4V alloy has been used extensively in biomedical applications such as hip replacements and
dental implants due to its attractive combinations of mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and
biocompatibility [1-5]. However, despite of its favorable mechanical properties, physicians still have concern
against this alloy because of leaching out of Al and V from the surface of implants and their allergic reaction,
toxicity and carcinogenicity. Aluminum is well known as to cause certain bone diseases and neurological
disorders. For these reasons there are a lot of studies and attempts are made, in one hand to improve tribological
and corrosion properties and in other hand to improve biocompatibility of the material. In order to improve
corrosion resistance, various surface modification technique are used. The physical vapour deposition (PVD)
coating is widely used in biomedical materials in current decade because of this good tribological and an anti-
corrosion performance is achievable [6-13]. Zirconium nitride (ZrN) coating started to attract more attention for
its excellent corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. It has been reported that ZrN coating showed higher
corrosion resistance compared to that of TiN coating [14, 15]. Stoichiometry of ZrN is the only stable phase
with a gold-like colour due to its metallic band structure. This coating appears to have substantial potential in
aero engine, industrial and biological application [16]. In the present study, ZrN is selected for coating on
Ti6Al4V alloy using cathodic arc physical vapour deposition in order to improve corrosion performance and the
surface properties.
II. EXPERIMENTAL
2.1 Sample preparation

Ti6Al4V in sheet form with thickness 0.5mm was used as samples for this study. The sheet was cut in
small pieces with dimensions of 12mm X 12mm. The samples were polished using silica carbide paper of 1000,
1500, 2000 and 2500 grit. Final mirror polish was done using 0.5µm diamond pest in order to produce scratch
free mirror polished surface. The polished samples were subsequently cleaned in acetone and deionized water.
They are further subjected to ultrasonic cleaning in acetone for 20 minutes, rinsed in deionized water and dried
in air.
Cathodic arc physical vapor deposition technique was used to produce ZrN coating on samples with
process condition of substrate bias voltages of -50V, -200V, -350V, -500V, reactive nitrogen gas pressure 10
mtorr; deposition time 20 minutes.
2.2 Corrosion test (Electrochemical test)
The electrochemical corrosion test was carried out using conventional three-electrode cell of 300 ml
capacity by using Gamry- potentiostat/Galvanostat reference 3000 and Tafel extrapolation method. The cell was
fitted with working electrode, saturated calomel electrode (SCE) as the reference electrode and the platinum as a
counter electrode. The studies were carried out in Normal Saline (0.9% NaCl) solution at 37±10 C with scan rate
0.166 mV/s and electrode potential was raised from -800 mV to 1000 mV. The solution was de-aerated with
pure argon (Ar) gas throughout the experiment. The critical parameters like Ecorr, Icorr, a, c and corrosion rate in
mpy were evaluated from the Tafel plots.
2.3 Dissolution test
In the dissolution test, six samples of surface area 1 cm2 were immersed in 50ml of Normal Saline
solution in polypropylene bottles. The bottles were evacuated and closed tightly and incubated in thermostatic
chamber at 37±10C for sixteen weeks. All bottles were shaken and rotated with a speed of 72 rpm. After 4th, 8th
and 16th weeks the solutions were analyzed by Inductive Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy
(ICPAES) to determine amount of Al leached out from samples.
2.4 SEM and EDAX
Film surface morphology was studied using SEM/EDAX and XRD which was carried out at low angle.
2.5 Microhardness
The microhardness test was carried out to measure hardness of bare and ZrN coated samples at 10g
load using Vickers method. Each measurement was repeated at three different locations on six samples of each
type in order to avoid the statistical fluctuations.
III. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
3.1 Corrosion behavior

The corrosion resistance of ZrN coated Ti6Al4V in Normal Saline solution was studied and compared
with untreated Ti6Al4V, NiTi and 316L stainless steel. Present studies showed that uncoated 316L stainless
steel had lower corrosion rate than NiTi and Ti6Al4V in Normal Saline solution. The order of corrosion rate
obtained, 316L stainless steel < NiTi < Ti6Al4V. Sample E showed high Ecorr and low Icorr than the samples D,
F and G. The sample E showed more improvement in the corrosion resistance than the samples D, F, and G. The
order of corrosion rate obtained, Samples E < Samples F < Samples G < Samples D. All the coated samples
showed high corrosion potential Ecorr, low corrosion current density Icorr and low corrosion rate than the uncoated
samples. ZrN coating by cathodic arc physical vapour deposition method effectively improved the corrosion
resistance of Ti6Al4V alloy. Substrate bias voltage affects the corrosion rate as shown in Fig 3. The substrate

bias voltage of -200V showed less corrosion rate. The substrate bias voltage of -200V is the best bias voltage to
improve coating quality which results in improved corrosion resistance.

3.2 Dissolution test
The dissolution test after continuous evaluation at the end of 4th, 8th and 16th week using ICPAES is
shown in Fig. 4. At every stage of evaluation, uncoated Ti6Al4V showed high amount of Al leached out from
the surface than coated Ti6Al4V. ZrN coating increased the elemental out-diffusion resistance. Sample-E
(substrate bias voltage of -200V, nitrogen gas pressure 10 mtorr), showed less leach-out diffusion of Al in
Normal Saline solution as compared to all other samples.

Fig. 5 shows the XRD pattern of samples coated at nitrogen pressure 10 mtorr with different bias
voltages. By means of XRD technique, the different phases present in the film were identified. For sample-D (-
50V, 10mtorr), ZrN[200] peak is dominant indicating that the preferred orientation is ZrN[200]. For samples E
(-200V, 10mtorr), F (-350V, 10mtorr), G (-500V, 10mtorr), ZrN[111] peak is dominant indicating that

preferred orientation is ZrN[111]. The preferred orientation changes from ZrN[200] to ZrN [111] with increase
in substrate voltage from -50V to -200V.

SEM micrograph of ZrN coated Ti6Al4V shows droplets like defects recognized as macro-particles
and black spot recognized as cavities or pinholes. The substrate bias voltage affects the density of macro-
particle. The samples coated at bias voltage of -200V showed less density of micro-particles and pinholes.
EDAX and XRD studies confirm the formation of ZrN coating on samples. The EDAX spectrums for samples E
and F are shown in Fig. 7. N/Zr (wt. % ratio) increases, indicating elemental concentration of nitrogen increases
in film stoichiometry which results in increase in microhardness of film.

The average grain size were estimated from full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of peaks in XRD
patterns by Sherrer formula, D = k/cos, where is wave length (1.540600 A0 in this case), the full- width
with half maximum of dominating peaks and the diffraction angle. The average grain size increases with
increase in substrate bias voltages in step of -50V, -200V, -350V but for -500V it decreases. The grain size was
found between 14.35 nm to 14.85 nm. The film microhardness increases with increase in bias voltage from -50V
to -350V but for bias voltage of -500V, microhardness of the film decreases. This decrease in grain size and
microhardness is due to resputtering of Zr ion from surface at high bias voltage -500V.
IV. CONCLUSION
The ZrN coating increases corrosion resistance, the elemental out-diffusion resistance and surface
microhardness. The substrate bias voltage affects the corrosion resistance, elemental leaching out concentration
from surface, microhardness, grain size and droplet like defects. The substrate bias voltage of -200V is the best
bias voltage to improve coating quality which results in improved corrosion resistance, the elemental out-
diffusion resistance and microhardness. The preferred orientation changes from ZrN[200] to ZrN [111] with
increase in substrate voltage from -50V to -200V.
