Selfish Motivations In Primeval Forest
In class, how we defined what it meant to be a missionary was an individual responding to a
need, a call to serve. From time to time, the area in which the missionary is called to serve is a
foreign land, where they would have to start anew and sacrifice some of their own privilege
interests. In general, when people think about missionaries, or what it means to be a missionary,
they picture a kind person, sympathetic to those around them. Someone who wants to work to
better the conditions of livelihood to those they will be serving. Missionaries are to be moral
people, or organizations, looking to serve for the better good. However, through the media
discussed in class, the main points of comparisons shed a new light on the term of becoming a
missionary: the sincere, wholesome imagery of missionaries soon start to fade. Instead,
Primeval Forest and Mosquito Coast show the darker side of doing missions: selfishness and
self satisfaction. In all three works seen or discussed in/for class, the main protagonists had
selfish motivations to travel abroad. In Primeval Forest, there seems to be a sense of ennui of the
doctor s life within the first page of the book. Having grown accustomed to the daily routine and
what he saw every day, he decided to embark on a new journey for a life in Africa. Similarly, in
Tanzanian Doctor, the protagonist ended up in Tanzania by coincidence. Wanting more than the
typical hospital life, he quit his job in search for something new. By coincidence,

????????............. Abstract A review of the main technologies currently available to produce wines
with lower alcohol (ethanol) levels was undertaken. These comprise technologies to reduce the
initial sugar levels in the grape juice; yeasts to produce less alcohol by diverting sugar metabolism
to glycerol production; and post fermentation technologies to remove some all of the alcohol from
the wine. Some of the legal issues around alcohol taxation and wine labelling are outlined,
particularly those affecting export. The major technologies are discussed, along with their
limitations, particularly with regard to the effects on sensory attributes (aroma and flavour). The
potential for yeast strains with lower conversion efficiencies is outlined, both for selected strains,
for non Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeasts, and for genetic modification. A summary of the
application of reduced alcohol technologies

Essay on Factors Leading to The Collapse of Past Societies
At present day, our worldwide civilization of the human race continues to surpass many
achievements of other past societies. Everyday, new technological advances are being achieved
and the population is growing faster than it ever previously has. We must look back at past
civilizations and analyze them to understand what is in store for us in the future. In the pursuit of
progress, human societies create problems they do not have the resources or political motivation to
solve, for fear of short term losses in status or quality of life, which prevents further advancements
and sometimes leads to collapse.1 Three factors that have enabled past civilizations to fall into
progress traps and ultimately contributed to the collapse of those... Show more content on

Collectively, it is not hard to imagine each city state setting themselves up for failure due to their
competitive nature. Competition for power and an increasing need for prosperity lead to Copan s
collapse, and ultimately the Classic Maya civilization as a whole. Secondly, the Roman civilization
had a number of social disputes, which contributed to its collapse. Among those, political
instability emerged as the root cause for its downfall.2 One of the revealing ironies of Rome s
history is that the city state s native democracy withered as its empire grew. (Wright, 90). The
assassination of Julius Caesar fueled existing conflicts further. Self proclaimed emperors after
Caesar s death and the overall political imbalance of the weakening empire lead to war, invasion
and trade disruption. These disturbances created a ripple effect that lead to massive amounts of
crime, increased cases of disease, and widespread famine. Without the social conflicts regarding
political relations, the Roman Empire may not have fallen as extensively. Thirdly, social conflicts
in China marked the end of the Ch in dynasty in 206 B.C. Hungary peasants rebelled against their
oppressive leaders. Revolting peasants dug into an emperors tomb, stole weapons from his
Terracotta army, and used them to overthrow the existing emperors at the time. Although initially
viewed as a positive event, the overthrowing of their own leaders proved to have a devastating

Aging Out Research Paper
Introduction and Definition of Foster Children Aging Out
The term aging out refers to children within a state s foster care system who are still in the system
upon reaching the age of majority or when they have graduated from high school (Craft, 2017,
Aging Out). Many of these children have not found permanency with an adoptive family ... or they
have not been able to return to their biological parents (Craft, 2017, Aging Out). A child typically
ages out at 18 years, but some states have extended services beyond this age because so many
young adults are just not ready to be thrust out into the world on their own at such a young age
(Craft, 2017, Aging Out). If a foster parent chooses to continue parenting the foster child once they
have aged out of the system, they are able to as long as the foster youth is okay with this. If an
individual continues fostering a child, they will no longer receive money from the state. Foster care
is intended to be a temporary, safe living arrangement for children whose parents for some reason
cannot adequately care for them. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

wanted to continue housing her and being part of her family despite the fact that they were not
going to adopt her. She was within the foster system for about four years and then she was
considered to have aged out. The family she is living with fought for her after she was no longer
within the system. They were able to extend her foster care until she turns 21. Her foster parents
are still in her life and will be at least until she turns 21. Before this placement, she was terrified
of what was going to happen once she reached the age of 18. She did not like the foster family she

Pope Leon XIII And The Rerum Novarum Encyclical
Having new opportunities in life is exciting, but when those opportunities become the obstacle to
pursue happiness, life may lose its meaning. Something similar happened during the industrial
revolution, which society changes. However, the church was present to advocate for those whose
happiness was taken away. Pope Leon XIII marked the history of society by writing the Rerum
NovarumEncyclicalduring the industrial revolution. Even though the industrial revolution
transformed the history of the world with the creation of new job s factories, it changed the society
by originating two classes, the wealthy and the poor. Pope Leon XIII, saw that advantages and
disadvantages of the industrial revolution and decided to convey the injustices happened at that
time. Pope Leo XIIIused that scripture and reason of natural law to argue about the common goods
and the rights of the workers.
Sharing benefits between members of the community is a principle that Pope Leo XIII transmitted
in his encyclical. The church has always been on behalf of the poor. For that reason
Pope Leo XIII used that Bible as a way to support his idea of the common good. He cited, There
was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned land or houses sold them and brought
the proceeds of what was sold (Acts 4:34). This passage supports his idea of the common good
through a spiritual interpretation with a moral lesson, which encourages the wealthy people to help
or share their goods to the needy, as

Identifying And Identify Two Unknown Bacteria From A Mixed...
For many years the identification of microorganisms has been important in the world of medicine.
It is essential or correct disease diagnosis in patients and for proper treatment. Knowing the correct
identity and characteristics of microorganism is crucial when disease outbreaks occur in
populations, also knowing how humans can benefit from microorganisms is important; many can
be used in making certain foods or antibiotics. The purpose of this study project was to carefully
isolate and identify two unknown bacteriafrom a mixed culture. The ability to properly evaluate
biochemical test results is also necessary for the identification to be successful. The goal was to
apply all of the methods and techniques that have been learned in the microbiologylaboratory course
for the proper identification of unknown bacteria. A certain amount of bacteria that were used
throughout the course were possible bacteria that could be found in a mixed culture. The bacteria
that were identified in the mixed culture were Staphylococcus Aureus and Kocuria Rhizophila.
Staphylococcus aureus is the leading cause of skin and soft tissue infections, it can cause serious
infections such as bloodstream infection, pneumonia or bone infections. Though it can cause
infections it is part of the normal human flora it is mostly found on the skin or in nasal cavities. It
is a facultative anaerobic gram positive cocci, it is usually in pairs or clusters. The bacterium is

Samuel Taylor Coleridge Drug Use
Writers are magicians, in a way; they open the gateway to the mind, and through colorful words
inked on scratchy paper, show the inner workings and imagination of their brains. But is that all
there is behind their works of art: only their brains? Do authors create some of their most
phenomenal pieces using only a pen and their own minds? No, they don t. There s something
sinister behind the masterpieces they create: drugs. Many authors, specifically authors during the
Romantic Era, such as Thomas de Quincey, John Keats, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge were
dependent on drugs either for medicinal or recreational purposes (Victorian Drug Use). Drugs
fueled the creative drive those authors needed for their writing. But it doesn t end there.... Show

The story The Leap is about a blind mother, her name is Anna. Anna was part of a blindfolded
trapeze act. The daughter of Anna narrates the story and tells readers about times in the trapeze
act or how Anna met her husband and other major events in Anna s life, at some points the
daughter plays a role, and has her own moments in the story. Later near the end of the story the
daughter tells readers about when her house caught on fire and Anna saved her daughter from this
event. Anna is a round and dynamic character in The Leap . We learn more about Anna than we do

Anna is a dynamic character because of the facts we know about her and that we learn almost
her entire history. We know her personality and her background by the end of the story we know
how she reacts to situations and other behavioral traits characters becomes well known by the
reader. Anna has a major inflection with plot, in the exposition Anna s daughter (the narrator)
delivers readers a brief overview of Anna s life and her career also what her daily life is in
modern time and even describes what it s like living with Anna. The exposition is very calm and
event free until we begin to dwell into the rising action. In the rising action readers can begin to
see tension as conflicts and problems occur. Readers also begin to bond with the characters as
dialogue helps raise tension the reader can relate or know exactly what is happening to the
character and what they are thinking at the time. Anna s daughter helps raise tension by narrating
and summarizing events to help give readers a better understanding of what is going on through
events and the mind of a character, this can also help a reader become more entertained as well as
help the reader begin to relate even more with the character. The rising action can be full of
stressful tension rising events, but this all sums up after the climax begins and everything is at it s
peak of tension in the event. everything unfolds even the greater conflicts and events. In the case of

Analysis Of Orange Is The New Black
Orange is the New Black by Jenji Kohan has been streaming on Netflix since July 2013 by the
production company Lionsgate Television. The television show is about the main character Piper
Chapman who just got in jail. She is serving time at Litchfield Penitentiary, a federal prison for
women in upstate New York, for drug smuggling with her ex girlfriend (Alex) a couple of years
ago. When Chapman goes to prisonshe is reunited with Alex, even though their relationship goes
through ups and downs as the time goes by. The main focus of the television show is to present a
public discourse about the criminal justicesystem, particularly incarceration in the United States.
Through the social cognitive theory and the agenda setting theory one is able to see how Orange is
the New Blackdraws attention to different issues within our incarceration system, specially
imprisonment of women. From the social cognitive theory aspect, the filmmaker has communicated
an acceptance towards distinctive identities by having a variety of characters in the show. Apart
from this, agenda setting theory comes into play when particular issues within imprisonment are
presented, like solitary confinement was throughout many episodes. These can be further examined
and analyzed looking at all the elements Jenji Kohan implements in her scripts to open up a public
discussions about social issues. In regards to social cognitive theory, one is looking at the fact that
people learn by observing behavioral

Advertising
Advertisements for various products are seen everywhere on billboards, in magazines, on
television, and countless other places. What draws the consumer into the advertisement the actual
product, the display of the sensual woman as she drinks a glass of milk, or the muscular man
sporting a Ralph Lauren blanket as a loincloth? These types of advertisements display unlikely
depictions of men and women to society. Today, advertisers use the influence of gender and sex to
sell various products to consumers, resulting in unrealistic expectations of men and women to
society.

has published advertisements implying that girls can use their sexuality to free themselves from
parental constraints (Moog 156).
Versace is yet another example of how sexuality and sexual orientated ads are used to sell their
products. In a recent advertisement for Versace Blue Jeans cologne, a nude male is seen in a
waterfall type scene. Oddly, this advertisement is selling cologne, but the focus is on the
portrayal of the nude male body in the advertisement, not the cologne fragrance. Numerous ads
show one thing, but mean something entirely different. Another example of this is from a
Seagram s ad where an attractive woman is seen dancing with a man. The ad says, Seagram s 7
gets things stirring. The couple isn t really laughing and carrying on, as seen in the ad itself; they
just look like pictures of store mannequins instead of real people (Moog 60). The Seagram s ad
communicates the message that by drinking this particular alcohol, attractive people will be drawn
to you, which will result in that person having the time of their life.
Most advertisers feel that by using sexually orientated or seductive ads, the product will be sold
much quicker. When consumers see these portrayals of men and women along the street, staring
down at them from billboards, or on the television screen, consumers desire to be like the
individual in the ads, because this will bring happiness into one s life, success, sex, and much more
by sporting a particular name brand of

Pros And Cons Of Japanese Internment
Japanese Internment can not be justified by the United States government. The United States
government, in the twentieth century can not justify the Internment of Japanese Americans and
their families. Many will argue that in times of war that difficult decisions and choices have to
be made on behalf of the nation at war. World War II highlighted the actions of a nation,
embracing and expediting the actions and decisions while not seeing the long term consequence
of such decisions. People in support of the war and the policies of our government, will argue that
they needed to make the war more efficient to shorten the war and spare our nation needless lost
of life. Can a society sacrifice moral principles as they blur the lines of its citizens and its enemies?
The American government evacuated approximately 120,000 Japanese Nationals, American
citizens of Japanese descent during World War II, and placed them in internment camps at the
beginning of World War II. Japanese Americans were forced from their homes and businesses,
forced into relocation camps in the deserts of California, Arizona, into the mountains of Idaho, and
small towns in the southern United States. These were Japanese American people of unquestionable
loyalty to the United States. These were citizens denied the rights of normal citizens under the
United States Constitution. Americans who had volunteered to fight in the war for the United

Examples Of Death In The Masque Of The Red Death
Edgar Allan Poe creates a grisly tale where the prince and his courtiers tries to escape death and
throughout they have similar characteristics of a disease in a body, in the short story, The
Masque of the Red Death. In this short story Prince Prospero gathers his wealthy friends into one
of his abbeys so that they wouldn t get the Red Death disease. Sadly, for them they failed to
realize that death is inevitable. There are two examples that shows Prince Prospero and his
guests acting like a disease in a body. When they tried to escape death and when they went
through the stages of life they acted like a disease in a body. To begin with, the Prince and his
guests act like a disease in a body by trying to escape death. They try to escape death ithemselves
up and away from the Red Death. In the text it says, The courtiers, having entered, brought
furnaces and massy hammers and welded the bolts. They try to escape death but all of a sudden
everyone dies ecause it s bound to happen. In the text it says, And now was acknowledged the
presence of the Red Death. He had come like a thief in the night. And one by one dropped the
revelers in the blood bedewers halls of their revels and died in the despairing posture of his fall.

Advantages Of Neoconservatism In International Relations
Neoconservatism in International Relations
Neoconservatives have faith in the might of the American Army and its predominance at the level
of labor, gear and advancement. They trust that the US has the military intends to reshape the world
as per its own particular advantages, and thusly, they tend to benefit military control over tact. Like
Jacksonians, Neocons hate multilateral organizations and have a tendency to see them as feeble
and wasteful. They like to act singularly, regardless of the possibility that it implies violating global
law. This carelessness comes from the Neocon adoration for the RMA, Revolution in the Military
Affairs, which means a dependence on stealth innovation, air conveyed accuracy guided weapons
and versatile ground powers. Precisely what the Bush organization would convey in Afghanistan
and Iraq. The Wilsonian side of Neoconservatism is clear in the development s advancement of the
internationalization of law based govern to whatever number places as could reasonably be
expected. The Neocon mind is Manichean and trusts that the world partitions into great states and
awful states, and that majority rules systems have amiable expectations, notwithstanding the vote
based peace hypothesis which asserts that popular governments don t run at war with each other.
Thus the more the U.S. democratizes the less danger of wars there is. This is the thing that Francis
Fukuyama basically called the finish of history . Obviously the occasions of 9 11 put

Discrimination And Discrimination In The Media

LGBTQ Studies
November 29, 2017
Professor Dadas
Discrimination and Assimilation in the Media Media has come a long way since back in earlier
times. Media is a way many people in today s world entertain themselves, express themselves and
shred light to certain situations. In the event of the LGBTQ community there has been some
improvements as far as giving people a part of the LGBTQ community roles in television and
movies. There has been an increase in LGBTQ representation in the media since the late 1990s in
film and television, but there are still very few prominent LGBT characters in the mainstream
media. (www.criticalmediaproject.org) There was a study done by the GLAAD showing that only
17 of the 102 movies from major studios in 2013 featured lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
characters and, of those 17, the majority were offensive and defamatory portrayals.
(www.theguardian.com) LGBTQ people were often portrayed in a stereotypical and outdated
humous way that tended to make things worse for the community than better. Recently there has
been many shows and movies that have portrayed members of the LGBTQ community in a
positive light. But they also stereotype them in certain areas of the show to shred light to certain
issues. One of the many TV shows that fall into this category is a TV show called The Fosters .
The Fosters is an American family drama series on the television channel Freeform. The first
episode aired June 3rd, 2013. Within

Eucharist, And The Sacrifice Of Black Bodies Analysis
Neoliberalism, Eucharist, and the Sacrifice of Black Bodies In contextualizing the relationship
between the neoliberal movements within the institutional American Catholic Church (the
hierarchy) and African American Catholic community, one better understands the theological and
cultural forces that are clashing. It is through this examination of the neoliberal manipulation of the
hierarchical voice of American Catholicism within the discourse of American politics, and its
subsequent effects on Black bodies an echo of the more sinister objective of the elites is heard. As
American institutional Catholicism plays its role within the elevation and sanctification of
whiteness (through the furthering of the neoliberal movements of Westoxification and
commodification) the institution of religion is being hollowed out. As American institutional...

ICT and Business Development
In line with the main priorities set by the URBACT Information Society Network, this theme
focuses on business development and the role of ICT as a means of tackling economic restructuring

The purpose of this brief document is to act as a guide for colleagues when preparing material or

This transformation has really taken place over the last 20 years and continues to transform the

businesses to remain competitive and profitable, thereby creating or safeguarding jobs.
The role of the Public Sector?
What is the case for Public Sector intervention if this is already happening? Talking specifically
about SME s, the final report (Feb. 2004) of the European Go Digital Awareness campaign 2001

Their experience of procuring technology has often left an impression that the wrong decision was

businesses willingness to further invest in technology and therefore threatens their further

The creation of new businesses especially in new industries requires that the right support and

It Bears No Doubt That Coates Isn t Not So Much With The...
It bears no doubt that Coates builds quite a cumulative, comprehensive and legible claim, as to the
reparations due to the minority community that befell a multitude of misery at the hands of white
folk. However, the problem that I wish to bring to light, lies not so much with the point(s) brought
forth, but rather with the issue of the practicality and feasibility of the implementation of
reparations. Moreover, I would also like to dwell with the future repercussions of going forth with
such an idea. Even so, I wish to provide for a framework under which such circumstances, though
not justifiable, can easily be explained, as far as their occurrence and the remnants of which occur
in today s society (is in concern.)
First and foremost, Coates in his article barely touches upon ways of going about said reparations.
Although he does state or at least imply that the primary point (or aim) of his article, is to
enumerate the list of injustices faced by the blacks at the hands of the white populace, and not to
advocate any particular means of reparations; such an article without any means or ways of ensuing
actions to resolve, defeats the purpose of presenting one in the first place. This he further concedes
by hinting at the fact that teams of scholars, such as the HR 40, after heated debates and
discussions, might find that America may never be able to repay the African American Community.
The idea of reparations is frightening not simply because we might lack the ability to

The Appeal Of Pathos In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
The best novels are the ones that connects with the reader and just toys with their emotions, as if
they too were also in the story by using pathos, the most powerful appeal. This holds true with
Truman Capote s, In Cold Blood and his writing appealing to the reader s emotions in the
portrayal of Perry Edward Smith and Richard Dick Eugene Hickock, the two murders with an
addition of Capote showing a great deal of favoritism to Perry over Dick. Throughout the novel,
Capote uses tone and diction to allure the reader into the novel s world and into every character
s life, just as if we knew their whole backstory. We see two heartless, cold blooded killers that
slain the innocent family of the Clutters with the intent to leave no witnesses and to rob them of
their hard earned money but Capote deceives the reader s emotions throughout the entirety of
the book to humanize straight killers and make them likable. We often see a murderer as a
psychopath without any emotion but it is hard to label Smith and Hickock one because Capote
brings the reader into their lives in a way that we would feel sorry and have pity for them.
Capote makes the reader relate to Smith and Hickock by describing their families and showing
insight into the killers dreams and aspirations so we could perceive them as people and forget that
they ended the future of the Clutters. Perry was a lonely child growing up and had a drunkard
mother that forced him into foster care where he was abused and bullied

Essay on The Comparison Between Psychodynamic and...
The Comparison between Psychodynamic and Humanistic Theory
There are very distinct differences between Psychodynamic and Humanistic Counselling but both
ultimately offer the help and guidance to discover why we act the way we do and why we make
certain choices in our lives.
Throughout this essay, I will endeavour to explain those major differences and you will see that
despite these completely different methods of therapy, depending on what the problem maybe, they
can both work very effectively in their own way.
Carl Rogers, born in 1902, was the originator of the Person Centred Approach or Humanistic
Theory. His work was influenced by his experience of being a client and a counsellor (Casemore,
2006) and he believed a trusting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perls did not belive in a single particular theory. He thought you should always just go with the

on the client becoming self aware and thus developed the Gestalt theory. This therapy focuses more
on process (what is happening) than content (what is being discussed). The emphasis is on what is
being done, thought and felt at the moment rather than on what was, might be, could be, or should
be. Perls believed in minipulating the client, bringing them out of their comfort zone and
challenging them. To own what you say and do and to be aware of unconscious actions/words.
In the 1950 s Eric Berne began to develop his theories of Transactional Analysis. He said that verbal
communication, particularly face to face, is at the centre of human social relationships and
psychoanalysis.
His starting point was that when two people encounter each other, one of them will speak to the
other. This he called the Transaction Stimulus. The reaction from the other person he called the
Transaction Response.
The person sending the Stimulus is called the Agent. The person who responds is called the
Respondent.
Transactional Analysis became the method of examining the transaction wherein: I do something to
you, and you do something back .
Berne also said that each person is made up of three alter ego states:

Truss Design Project Essay
Summary
We have designed a truss to support a point load, placed at 190mm from the edge of a 450mm
gap. The vertical face of the trusses is modelled on the already established K truss design, but the
overall shape of the structure is our own. There are three K units on each truss. The two vertical
faces are held together at the top by another truss like design. We modelled this on the N truss.
The truss is constructed from hot dog sticks, glue and bolts.
Introduction
The task was to construct a truss out of 48 hot dog sticks and 30 bolts to support as large a point
load as possible. It was to span a gap of 450mm and to support a load placed at 190mm from the
end. The truss may have a maximum depth beneath the supports of ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
We began with a simplified curve and flat bottom, but discovered that a slightly curved bottom
distributed the weight more evenly to the truss. The maximum and minimum points of these curves
were best positioned at the point of loading, 190mm from one end.
The more curved the truss, and the greater the number of K units, the more evenly the weight is
distributed. However, the truss structure is limited by the weight of the hot dog sticks used. For this
reason, there are only two K units on the 190mm side, and three on the 270mm side. We have
optimised weight distribution, given the constraint of the weight limit.
The direction in which the Ks point is important. A better distribution of weight can be obtained
when the top diagonal branch of the K points down towards the closest end of the truss. We
changed the design accordingly.
The point where the diagonal members meet on the vertical member of each K affects the weight
distribution. We found that the higher this point is made, the lower the forces in the members.
At first we limited the total length of a member to the length of one popsicle stick; however, by
modelling the centre length as a single member in pure tension, we were able to increase the length
of this member to make the truss stronger.
Since a single hot dog stick can only support an average tension force of 230N and compression
load of not more than 25N, we used the

Holden Caulfield And Its Effects On Society
After a heated argument, rough day, or traumatizing event, many of us say we would rather be
left alone. When something negative happens to any of us we tend to isolate ourselves, leaving
ourselves to our thoughts for a while before blending back into society. This isolation is good for
a while, it allows us to clear our heads and think things through before going back into a normal
routine. Prolonged isolation however, has been proven to be potentially dangerous. Holden
Caulfield isolates himself from the phoniness of the world, thinking highly of himself and
somehow believes he is different from everyone else he s ever met. Holden s way of putting
himself on a pedestal harms his social prowess, and isolates him to the point of loneliness. He
longs for social contact and in many situations makes a strong effort in order to get to know
somebody. After 5 minutes of conversation however, Holden proves to us his social impairment.
Holden Caulfield is an example of a person who does not fit into normal social interactions, yet
some of his personality exists in all of us.

Cultural Influences On Bullying
There are many influences that play their parts within Bullying that many of us are not always
aware of. Social roles, cultural beliefs and biases, social inequality, and even excising social
conditions fall within social issues of Bullying. For starters, a victim and Bullies are considered the
social roles of Bullying. The victim often describes the person being bullied as opposed to the bully
is the person initiating bullying.
When a person is initiating bullying, it often refers to verbal or physical harassment such as
fighting, calling names and even black mailing. In fact, researchers and bloggers have mentioned
labeling kids, as victims and Bullies does not help discard the situation. It is known to cause
children to identify themselves as victims and bullies and patterns may be repeated. Nonetheless,
although social roles such as Victims and Bullies can be negative as far as labeling, it has helps

IBM introduces the 701 the following year. It is the first commercially successful computer. In

United States after 10 years of building it. However, the French tried to build it before the U.S.A.
It started in 1881 and ended in failure in 1894 because of the death of 22,000 workers because of

area, making the area better. Since a lot of ships come in on a daily basis, money comes in fast.
Panama has also brought in countless numbers of tourist to come see the Canal, making the
economy grow and grow. Before the canal the boats would have to go under South America where
there were strong winds and cold waters, taking a long time. After the canal was built, it cut 8,000
miles from travel time to go around South America, and made the cost less for ships wanting to get
to the Pacific or Atlantic Ocean. Now, countries are able to trade with other countries far away
because of the canal. The overall importance of the Canal is very high. Without it, Panama
wouldn t have the booming city like it does today, would have a low amount of jobs, and other
countries wouldn t be able to trade easily by boat. The canal has made shipment of goods by boats
much easier, since they don t have to cut under South America. If it was never created, boat travel
would not be like it is today.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of New Building

sense to go for a new building without any faults rather than one which will soon become rundown
and obsolete. There are both advantages and disadvantages of new builds, however, some of which
are listed below:
Positives:
If you buy an empty plot of land, you can customise your house fully based on your own
specifications and needs. If you ve always wanted hardwood floors or a games room or a sauna,
you can finally have them. This means you can have your house built to modern specifications,

There is also a lot of red tape and safety regulations to cut through, and almost all of this has to be
handled by the owner. Numerous unseen costs such as drainage issues or cable installation can
easily eat up both your budget and your savings.
If your home is in a new town or a neighbourhood that is still being built up, there will likely be a
lot of construction around your home for years to come. Not only will this cause a lot of noise, it
can cause traffic delays, there will be a significant amount of dust and debris in the air, and it could
take longer before your local community is built up and you can start building connections with
your neighbours. Established neighbourhoods will already have this community feeling.
You might have noticed that many new builds are often built to the exact same blueprint and
specification with little variation to them. This makes building easier, but lacks the character and
originality of older neighbourhoods. The Homeowners Alliance cited this lack of charm as one of
the main reasons why people avoid new

Persuasive Essay On Acting In Hollywood
What do you want to be when you grow up? is a question that children get asked quite frequently.
Most of the time, a child aims big and chooses an extravagant career, like an astronaut, a police
officer, or a doctor. Obviously, it is impossible for a child to obtain one of those jobs at such a
young age. However, acting in Hollywood is a possible career for a child. If a child is talented
enough to be a star, then why not let them pursue their passion? While the life of being an actor
in Hollywood seems like a dream to most children, fame comes with many terrible obstacles for
some stars. Over the years, there has been a large debate on whether or not acting in Hollywood
as a child is as picture perfect as it seems. Hollywood is filled with tons of secrets. Why should a
child be put into such an untrustworthy environment? Acting in Hollywood is in no way safe for
children. News outlets are full of stories about former child stars who have gone wild. Some
stars develop destructive partying habits at a young age. How do young, innocent stars learn
about the use of drugs and alcohol? They are invited to big Hollywood parties where they are
introduced to substances that lead to addiction. During adolescence, a child is still learning who
they are and love to experiment. Experimentation is healthy for a young mind, but substances like
drugs and alcohol can affect a developing mind negatively. Addiction is a tough obstacle to

The Theory Of Atomic Theory Essay
Emily Elliott
Scientists who Contributed to Atomic Theory
20 September 20 What is Atomic Theory? Atomic theory is the theory that all matter is made up of
tiny indivisible particles called atoms. This paper will discuss its beginnings and some of the
scientists who made major contributions to how it is defined today.
Background
Since the earliest of times, scientists and philosophers have known that the universe is more than
just what it appears to be, but instead there is a deeper, more complex makeup beneath the surface.
The ancient Greeks called it the four elements 2, though some, like Democritus, believed that
everything was made of tiny indivisible particles called atoms.3 Later, however, with advancements
in technology, scientists such as John Dalton, JJ Thomson, Ernest Rutherford, and James Chadwick
were able to prove the existence of an indivisible particle with a dense, positively charged nucleus
consisting of protons and neutrons with electrons orbiting the nucleus.1 With this knowledge,
others were able to dig deeper, and discover so much more about atomic theory, such as Brown s
equation for the motion of an electron,6 Dirac s discovery of the positron,11 Fermi s research in
nuclear fission to create the atomic bomb,13 and Gell Mann s discovery of the quark.14 Each
discovery made by these men has shaped the world in some way or another, and even now more
discoveries are being made, but only because of the foundation laid out by those who set atomic

  • 3. Selfish Motivations In Primeval Forest In class, how we defined what it meant to be a missionary was an individual responding to a need, a call to serve. From time to time, the area in which the missionary is called to serve is a foreign land, where they would have to start anew and sacrifice some of their own privilege interests. In general, when people think about missionaries, or what it means to be a missionary, they picture a kind person, sympathetic to those around them. Someone who wants to work to better the conditions of livelihood to those they will be serving. Missionaries are to be moral people, or organizations, looking to serve for the better good. However, through the media discussed in class, the main points of comparisons shed a new light on the term of becoming a missionary: the sincere, wholesome imagery of missionaries soon start to fade. Instead, Primeval Forest and Mosquito Coast show the darker side of doing missions: selfishness and self satisfaction. In all three works seen or discussed in/for class, the main protagonists had selfish motivations to travel abroad. In Primeval Forest, there seems to be a sense of ennui of the doctor s life within the first page of the book. Having grown accustomed to the daily routine and what he saw every day, he decided to embark on a new journey for a life in Africa. Similarly, in Tanzanian Doctor, the protagonist ended up in Tanzania by coincidence. Wanting more than the typical hospital life, he quit his job in search for something new. By coincidence, ... Abstract A review of the main technologies currently available to produce wines with lower alcohol (ethanol) levels was undertaken. These comprise technologies to reduce the initial sugar levels in the grape juice; yeasts to produce less alcohol by diverting sugar metabolism to glycerol production; and post fermentation technologies to remove some all of the alcohol from the wine. Some of the legal issues around alcohol taxation and wine labelling are outlined, particularly those affecting export. The major technologies are discussed, along with their limitations, particularly with regard to the effects on sensory attributes (aroma and flavour). The potential for yeast strains with lower conversion efficiencies is outlined, both for selected strains, for non Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeasts, and for genetic modification. • 5. Essay on Factors Leading to The Collapse of Past Societies At present day, our worldwide civilization of the human race continues to surpass many achievements of other past societies. Everyday, new technological advances are being achieved and the population is growing faster than it ever previously has. We must look back at past civilizations and analyze them to understand what is in store for us in the future. In the pursuit of progress, human societies create problems they do not have the resources or political motivation to solve, for fear of short term losses in status or quality of life, which prevents further advancements and sometimes leads to collapse.1 Three factors that have enabled past civilizations to fall into progress traps and ultimately contributed to the collapse of those... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Collectively, it is not hard to imagine each city state setting themselves up for failure due to their competitive nature. Competition for power and an increasing need for prosperity lead to Copan s collapse, and ultimately the Classic Maya civilization as a whole. Secondly, the Roman civilization had a number of social disputes, which contributed to its collapse. Among those, political instability emerged as the root cause for its downfall.2 One of the revealing ironies of Rome s history is that the city state s native democracy withered as its empire grew. (Wright, 90). The assassination of Julius Caesar fueled existing conflicts further. Self proclaimed emperors after Caesar s death and the overall political imbalance of the weakening empire lead to war, invasion and trade disruption. These disturbances created a ripple effect that lead to massive amounts of crime, increased cases of disease, and widespread famine. Without the social conflicts regarding political relations, the Roman Empire may not have fallen as extensively. Thirdly, social conflicts in China marked the end of the Ch in dynasty in 206 B.C. Hungary peasants rebelled against their oppressive leaders. Revolting peasants dug into an emperors tomb, stole weapons from his Terracotta army, and used them to overthrow the existing emperors at the time. Although initially viewed as a positive event, the overthrowing of their own leaders proved to have a devastating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aging Out Research Paper Introduction and Definition of Foster Children Aging Out The term aging out refers to children within a state s foster care system who are still in the system upon reaching the age of majority or when they have graduated from high school (Craft, 2017, Aging Out). Many of these children have not found permanency with an adoptive family ... or they have not been able to return to their biological parents (Craft, 2017, Aging Out). A child typically ages out at 18 years, but some states have extended services beyond this age because so many young adults are just not ready to be thrust out into the world on their own at such a young age (Craft, 2017, Aging Out). If a foster parent chooses to continue parenting the foster child once they have aged out of the system, they are able to as long as the foster youth is okay with this. • 7. Pope Leon XIII And The Rerum Novarum Encyclical Having new opportunities in life is exciting, but when those opportunities become the obstacle to pursue happiness, life may lose its meaning. Something similar happened during the industrial revolution, which society changes. However, the church was present to advocate for those whose happiness was taken away. Pope Leon XIII marked the history of society by writing the Rerum NovarumEncyclicalduring the industrial revolution. Even though the industrial revolution transformed the history of the world with the creation of new job s factories, it changed the society by originating two classes, the wealthy and the poor. Pope Leon XIII, saw that advantages and disadvantages of the industrial revolution and decided to convey the injustices happened at that time. Pope Leo XIIIused that scripture and reason of natural law to argue about the common goods and the rights of the workers. Sharing benefits between members of the community is a principle that Pope Leo XIII transmitted in his encyclical. The church has always been on behalf of the poor. For that reason Pope Leo XIII used that Bible as a way to support his idea of the common good. He cited, There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned land or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold (Acts 4:34). This passage supports his idea of the common good through a spiritual interpretation with a moral lesson, which encourages the wealthy people to help or share their goods to the needy, as ... What draws the consumer into the advertisement the actual product, the display of the sensual woman as she drinks a glass of milk, or the muscular man sporting a Ralph Lauren blanket as a loincloth? These types of advertisements display unlikely depictions of men and women to society. Versace is yet another example of how sexuality and sexual orientated ads are used to sell their products. In a recent advertisement for Versace Blue Jeans cologne, a nude male is seen in a waterfall type scene. Oddly, this advertisement is selling cologne, but the focus is on the portrayal of the nude male body in the advertisement, not the cologne fragrance. Numerous ads show one thing, but mean something entirely different. Another example of this is from a Seagram s ad where an attractive woman is seen dancing with a man. The ad says, Seagram s 7 gets things stirring. The couple isn t really laughing and carrying on, as seen in the ad itself; they just look like pictures of store mannequins instead of real people (Moog 60). The Seagram s ad communicates the message that by drinking this particular alcohol, attractive people will be drawn to you, which will result in that person having the time of their life. Most advertisers feel that by using sexually orientated or seductive ads, the product will be sold much quicker. When consumers see these portrayals of men and women along the street, staring down at them from billboards, or on the television screen, consumers desire to be like the individual in the ads, because this will bring happiness into one s life, success, sex, and much more by sporting a particular name brand of ... They trust that the US has the military intends to reshape the world as per its own particular advantages, and thusly, they tend to benefit military control over tact. Like Jacksonians, Neocons hate multilateral organizations and have a tendency to see them as feeble and wasteful. They like to act singularly, regardless of the possibility that it implies violating global law. This carelessness comes from the Neocon adoration for the RMA, Revolution in the Military Affairs, which means a dependence on stealth innovation, air conveyed accuracy guided weapons and versatile ground powers. Discrimination And Discrimination In The Media Tyra Jackson LGBTQ Studies November 29, 2017 Professor Dadas Discrimination and Assimilation in the Media Media has come a long way since back in earlier times. Media is a way many people in today s world entertain themselves, express themselves and shred light to certain situations. In the event of the LGBTQ community there has been some improvements as far as giving people a part of the LGBTQ community roles in television and movies. There has been an increase in LGBTQ representation in the media since the late 1990s in film and television, but there are still very few prominent LGBT characters in the mainstream media. (www.criticalmediaproject.org) There was a study done by the GLAAD showing that only 17 of the 102 movies from major studios in 2013 featured lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender characters and, of those 17, the majority were offensive and defamatory portrayals. (www.theguardian.com) LGBTQ people were often portrayed in a stereotypical and outdated humous way that tended to make things worse for the community than better. Recently there has been many shows and movies that have portrayed members of the LGBTQ community in a positive light. But they also stereotype them in certain areas of the show to shred light to certain issues. One of the many TV shows that fall into this category is a TV show called The Fosters . It is through this examination of the neoliberal manipulation of the hierarchical voice of American Catholicism within the discourse of American politics, and its subsequent effects on Black bodies an echo of the more sinister objective of the elites is heard. As American institutional Catholicism plays its role within the elevation and sanctification of whiteness (through the furthering of the neoliberal movements of Westoxification and commodification) the institution of religion is being hollowed out. It bears no doubt that Coates builds quite a cumulative, comprehensive and legible claim, as to the reparations due to the minority community that befell a multitude of misery at the hands of white folk. However, the problem that I wish to bring to light, lies not so much with the point(s) brought forth, but rather with the issue of the practicality and feasibility of the implementation of reparations. Moreover, I would also like to dwell with the future repercussions of going forth with such an idea. Even so, I wish to provide for a framework under which such circumstances, though not justifiable, can easily be explained, as far as their occurrence and the remnants of which occur in today s society (is in concern.) First and foremost, Coates in his article barely touches upon ways of going about said reparations. Although he does state or at least imply that the primary point (or aim) of his article, is to enumerate the list of injustices faced by the blacks at the hands of the white populace, and not to advocate any particular means of reparations; such an article without any means or ways of ensuing actions to resolve, defeats the purpose of presenting one in the first place. This he further concedes by hinting at the fact that teams of scholars, such as the HR 40, after heated debates and discussions, might find that America may never be able to repay the African American Community. The Appeal Of Pathos In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood The best novels are the ones that connects with the reader and just toys with their emotions, as if they too were also in the story by using pathos, the most powerful appeal. This holds true with Truman Capote s, In Cold Blood and his writing appealing to the reader s emotions in the portrayal of Perry Edward Smith and Richard Dick Eugene Hickock, the two murders with an addition of Capote showing a great deal of favoritism to Perry over Dick. Throughout the novel, Capote uses tone and diction to allure the reader into the novel s world and into every character s life, just as if we knew their whole backstory. We see two heartless, cold blooded killers that slain the innocent family of the Clutters with the intent to leave no witnesses and to rob them of their hard earned money but Capote deceives the reader s emotions throughout the entirety of the book to humanize straight killers and make them likable. We often see a murderer as a psychopath without any emotion but it is hard to label Smith and Hickock one because Capote brings the reader into their lives in a way that we would feel sorry and have pity for them. Capote makes the reader relate to Smith and Hickock by describing their families and showing insight into the killers dreams and aspirations so we could perceive them as people and forget that they ended the future of the Clutters. The vertical face of the trusses is modelled on the already established K truss design, but the overall shape of the structure is our own. There are three K units on each truss. The two vertical faces are held together at the top by another truss like design. We modelled this on the N truss. The truss is constructed from hot dog sticks, glue and bolts. Introduction The task was to construct a truss out of 48 hot dog sticks and 30 bolts to support as large a point load as possible. It was to span a gap of 450mm and to support a load placed at 190mm from the end. The truss may have a maximum depth beneath the supports of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We began with a simplified curve and flat bottom, but discovered that a slightly curved bottom distributed the weight more evenly to the truss. The maximum and minimum points of these curves were best positioned at the point of loading, 190mm from one end. The more curved the truss, and the greater the number of K units, the more evenly the weight is distributed. However, the truss structure is limited by the weight of the hot dog sticks used. For this reason, there are only two K units on the 190mm side, and three on the 270mm side. We have optimised weight distribution, given the constraint of the weight limit. The direction in which the Ks point is important. A better distribution of weight can be obtained when the top diagonal branch of the K points down towards the closest end of the truss. We changed the design accordingly. The point where the diagonal members meet on the vertical member of each K affects the weight distribution. We found that the higher this point is made, the lower the forces in the members. At first we limited the total length of a member to the length of one popsicle stick; however, by modelling the centre length as a single member in pure tension, we were able to increase the length of this member to make the truss stronger. Since a single hot dog stick can only support an average tension force of 230N and compression load of not more than 25N, we used the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Theory Of Atomic Theory Essay Emily Elliott Scientists who Contributed to Atomic Theory 20 September 20 What is Atomic Theory? Atomic theory is the theory that all matter is made up of tiny indivisible particles called atoms. This paper will discuss its beginnings and some of the scientists who made major contributions to how it is defined today. Background Since the earliest of times, scientists and philosophers have known that the universe is more than just what it appears to be, but instead there is a deeper, more complex makeup beneath the surface. The ancient Greeks called it the four elements 2, though some, like Democritus, believed that everything was made of tiny indivisible particles called atoms.3 Later, however, with advancements in technology, scientists such as John Dalton, JJ Thomson, Ernest Rutherford, and James Chadwick were able to prove the existence of an indivisible particle with a dense, positively charged nucleus consisting of protons and neutrons with electrons orbiting the nucleus.1 With this knowledge, others were able to dig deeper, and discover so much more about atomic theory, such as Brown s equation for the motion of an electron,6 Dirac s discovery of the positron,11 Fermi s research in nuclear fission to create the atomic bomb,13 and Gell Mann s discovery of the quark.14 Each discovery made by these men has shaped the world in some way or another, and even now more discoveries are being made, but only because of the foundation laid out by those who set atomic ...
